A swarm of celebs and socialites descended upon Midtown Wednesday night to fete Kenneth Cole's latest project, a charitable initiative he's dubbed "Awearness". The designer/philanthropist created the global non-profit to celebrate his brand's 25 years of design and do-goodism.
At the heart of last night's celebration was the launch of his first book entitled Awearness: Inspiring Stories About How to Make a Difference.
This lucky intern was able to score an invite at the 11th hour and got a sneak peak at the book before it goes on sale next month.
The page-turner (I read a third of it on the cab ride home) features 86 personal stories from celebrities, political figures, and ordinary people on how they've made service a part of their life. The mantra of the book, Cole says, is "no good deed should go unpublished." 
I spotted a number of the book's contributers at last night's party including the more-gorgeous-in-real-life Rosario Dawson, whose work with Voto Latino is featured in the book, and Hasidic hip-hop artist/activist Matisyahu.
With all eyes on Dawson in a navy blue bandage dress, I almost missed the slew of other celebs that showed up to support Awearness including Diane Von Furstenberg, Lauren Bush, and Olivia Palermo (who'll be gracing the pages of MC's fashion feature in December).
Marie Claire's Deputy Editor, Abigail Pesta, was lucky enough to interview the man of the hour, who said he plans to take the idea of the book online and create a forum for the countless other charitable stories waiting to be written.
While mingling throughout the Grand Central store, I also got to check out the first shop-in-shop where you can buy Awearness merchandise or become a member of the Alliance by signing up on one of the in-house computer kiosks.
My editors got to sip "Awearnesstinis" which were a huge hit with the crowd, but the real treat were the swag bags. Made of reusable canvas, they featured the phrase "Use me... again and again and again (I'm used to it.) From last night it's clear that the Pun Prince is making his mark on more than just the totes.

How often do you hear a phrase and think, “That should be on a T-shirt”? Spreadshirt CEO Jana Eggers often has that experience. In fact, since joining the company (which was founded in Germany by two grad students), Eggers has realized that no matter how complex life can seem, most of it can be boiled down to a humorous, attention-getting tee. And, of course, she creates them at Spreadshirt. The site offers three services: You can design your own apparel, open a free online shop to sell your custom clothing designs (and collect a commission), and purchase designs that others have created in the Spreadshirt marketplace. The company uses a superior printing process called plot printing, which produces long-lasting results and colors that don’t fade, with a choice of two finishes: flat (slightly shiny, like vinyl) or flock (soft and slightly raised). First choose from a variety of products, like American Apparel tees and tanks, organic and bamboo shirts, track jackets, thermal shirts, maternity tops, organic cotton totes, messenger bags, hats and even undies. The quality of the garments and accessories are excellent; it’s a priority for Eggers, who test-drives new products before offering them for sale. Once you pick your merch, you choose a design. Designs are organized by category and offered by navigation down the side of the site, but they’re also searchable by tags. We found some cute options, from an anime “Zombie Kittie” to political slogans that inspire or offend, depending on your inclinations. If you’re feeling creative, you can upload your own design (photo, logo, text, etc.), as long as you own the rights to it. Come to think of it, a Store Adore tee sounds like an excellent idea.

Sure, you should be able to interchange every pendant and charm you collect with every chain you own, but it never seems to work out that way. Indeed, a perfect fit, unless you bought the charm and chain together, is rare. Enter Dara Adams, whose Sterling, VA. company Full Circle Studio came up with the brilliant idea of a little toggle bar and loop that lets you swap out a near-infinite number of charms on a single, all-purpose chain. The concept is simple: choose a chain (there are silver, gold and leather varieties), then choose a charm (you’ll find about a hundred to choose from at any given time, from the simple to the ornate, in materials we love like crystal and vermeil). There are ’literally thousands” of charms waiting in the wings, according to Adams, and as soon as one model sells out (there are only two or three of any given charm), new designs appear in her online store. Pile a whole bunch onto one chain and go for the kitchen-sink look—then accessorize with Full Circle’s recently-added earrings and rings. Right now, Adams only sells her wares online and through trunk shows in Virginia (though baubles make seasonal, irregular appearances in a store or two), but we can’t image a concept this great taking long to hit the streets.
