Each shoe is specifically engineered to maximize the performance of today's generation of professional, collegiate, high school and amateur athletes who are running as a sport or incorporating running as an essential component in their training regime.
Under Armour's "Athletes Run" campaign features world class athletes such as:
NY Giants' Brandon Jacobs
National Women's Soccer Olympic Champion Heather Mitts
Washington Redskins' Santana Moss
2007 Ford Ironman World Champion, Chris McCormack
The foundation of Under Armour's first-ever running footwear collection is the company's new proprietary technology called CartilageTM. The independent suspension system serves as the "connective tissue" between a runner and his environment to enhance performance and provide an exceptionally stable and smooth ride. Built with elastic, protective and stabilizing properties, Cartilage activates independently when pressure is applied to ensure initial impact absorption, reduce force and create maximum stability and support.
The ultra-light collection also features Directional Cushioning EngineeringTM - an integrated system of midsole components that work together to capture energy at impact and create propulsion by releasing forces directionally. ARMOURLasticTM absorbs shock at critical impact zones in the heel and forefront for the utmost protection, ARMOURGuideTM protects against shearing forces at the midsole perimeter to deliver a more efficient return to the neutral plane and ARMOURBoundTM technology dispenses full-length cushioning and maintains an even distribution of impact forces throughout the gait cycle.
UA Run footwear includes four road shoes: the UA RevenantTM, UA IllusionTM, UA ApparitionTM, UA SpectreTM, and two trail shoes: the UA MirageTM and UA ChimeraTM. Each shoe is specifically engineered to maximize the performance of today's
generation of professional, collegiate, high school and amateur athletes who are running as a sport or incorporating running as an essential component in their training regimen.
"Now is the time to introduce Under Armour Run footwear because we have a great product with a proven technology platform and can build on the momentum and excitement generated from the success of our performance trainer launch," said Raphael Peck, Senior Vice President, Footwear. "We are entering the category with our own point-of-view and we're going to tell our story to all levels of athletes looking for something new in this space."
An additional technology feature is a built-in ventilated FootSleeveTM that streamlines the construction of the shoe, hugs the foot, eliminates sliding and renders the traditional bulky footwear tongue obsolete. Every inch of an Under Armour running shoe is designed to deliver technical advantages based on an athlete's neutral and stability needs. The UA Revenant, UA Illusion, and UA Mirage are built to provide increased stability for runners with a medium to low arch foot type. The UA Apparition, UA Spectre and UA Chimera are designed to enhance the ride for those with a high to medium arch foot type.
All six shoes are available for men and women. The UA Revenant retails for a suggested price of $119.99, the UA Illusion for $94.99, the UA Apparition for $109.99, and the UA Spectre for $89.99. In the trail category, the UA Mirage retails for $94.99 and the UA Chimera for $84.99. The new footwear collection will be supported by a multi-faceted marketing campaign and will be available at running specialty, sporting goods, and athletic specialty retailers nationwide beginning January 31, 2009.
