The Protein-Packer "My wheat allergy is a blessing in disguise."
--
Colleen, 27, actress Height: 5' 8½"
Weight: 135
Dress size: 6
Eating style: Two years ago, Colleen found out that she is allergic to wheat. At the recommendation of her allergist, she eliminated all wheat from her diet -- and lost 30 pounds. "I actually consider myself lucky that I can't eat wheat anymore. As a result, my diet has become much healthier -- high in protein and low in carbs. No more doughnut treats for me."
Breakfast: Yogurt and a banana.
Lunch: Turkey burger with cheese (no bun) and a side salad. Snacks include raw vegetables, turkey bacon, peanuts and yogurt. Colleen drinks milk throughout the day.
Dinner: Chicken breast with a plate of vegetables or a hamburger with cheese (no bun) and salad.
Vice: Sweets. For dessert, she'll have a mini chocolate bar, or maybe a few spoonfuls of ice cream.
Exercise: Dancing or cardio workouts; in addition, weight-training five times a week.
Why the expert gave a one-star rating: Colleen will stay svelte -- unless she gets bored with her repetitive diet and overeats her "legal" wheat-free foods, says Bauer.
Diet fix: Colleen's diet is basically healthy, says Bauer. "She's eating lean proteins and plenty of veggies, which is terrific, but she should be getting some
wheat-free grains (like rice and corn-flour cereals) and wheat-free breads throughout the day for quick fuel. Eating too few carbs can zap the energy she needs for her athletic lifestyle."
