Is He Still a Stud If His Job's a Dud?

Here, MarieClaire.com's favorite film characters who won us over in spite of their you-must-be-kidding-me day jobs.

Last time we saw Paul Dano, in There Will Be Blood, he had us daydreaming about what lurked beneath those dark charlatan preacher vestments. This time around, in the quirky romantic comedy Gigantic, he plays Brian Weathersby, a sensitive good guy trying to win over the girl (Zooey Deschanel). The hang-up: his lame job as a mattress salesman. But Brian isn't the first schlepper to win us over. Here, our favorite film characters who won us over in spite of their you-must-be-kidding-me day jobs.

1. Seth Rogen as Ben Stone in Knocked Up

When not consumed by the munchies, the chubby stoner is an Internet entrepreneur whose Website catalogs nude scenes in films.

2. Adam Sandler as Barry Egan in Punch-Drunk Love

Sure, he owns his own business. Too bad the business makes themed toilet plungers, called "fun-gers."

3. Johnny Depp as Roux in Chocolat

We're curious if he listed his occupation as "wandering river gypsy" on his tax returns.

4. Vince Vaughn as Gary Growbowski in The Break-Up

Though he's hysterical rocking the mike, the dude's still a guide on a tour bus.

5. Adam Garcia as Kevin O'Donnell in Coyote Ugly

The smoking-hot jack-of-all-trades flips burgers and loads fish trucks. Be grateful your TV isn't equipped with smell-o-vision.
