The Best Indicator You're Over an Ex?

The Best Indicator You're Over an Ex?

Share

Old sports:

Over lunch this weekend, a friend and I met discussed her recent breakup. She'd only been with the guy five months--not very long, but long enough so that it hurt when they split up. As she was pushing vinaigretted baby spinach around on her plate (creating an image that would've made Matisse proud) she asked me, "When is it going to feel better? When will I know I'm ready to move on?"

I chewed thoughtfully on the crust of a piece of toast, mulling her question over. I myself recently parted ways with a certain person, after an even-briefer period of time (quite quite brief); but I knew him long enough--and fantasized about sex with him long enough--that I did feel rather bereft once it ended. But I did think there was a distinct moment when I knew I was feeling better ...

"When you can use your vibrator without crying?" I said to her. "Maybe then you'll know you've turned a corner?"

Guys--or really, I should say gals--what do you think of this? Do you think being able to get auto-erotic is a good indicator that you're over someone? Is it good only in short-term and not very serious relationships? For longer relationships, is there any way to gauge it?

(More importantly, perhaps, if you have any advice for my pal about what she can actively DO to put this guy behind her, lemme know.)

xxx!
