When we first read Stephanie Smith's New York Post article, 'I'm 124 sandwiches away from an engagement ring,' we were ready to join the chorus of negative criticism. The article brought feminists to their feet screaming that her project to "earn" an engagement from her boyfriend by making him 300 sandwiches was demeaning and detrimental to women's equality. Smith changed our mind today, however, when she published a follow-up article defending her choices.

In her latest article, 'It's a blog, not a 'wich hunt,' Smith explains the origins of the project saying, "the blog started as a lighthearted joke between boyfriend and girlfriend. I presented it to the world because I thought at least one person would find the humor in the idea of sandwiches for an engagement ring." She reveals that the project has brought her closer to her man and been an enjoyable experience for both of them. Smith sums up the experience in a way everyone in a loving committed relationship can relate to, "He does things I like, just as I make sandwiches he likes, because that's what a couple does. These aren't sacrifices. They are what you do when you enjoy seeing the person you love happy."

We get it, Stephanie, and we've got your back!
