Episode 37: The Masthead with Marie Claire Video
The Cool Girl's Guide to living alone
We wanted to put together a single girl's guide to living alone because that's such an potentially magical, potentially ** period of a life of a young woman. We just thought it would be fun to do a guide for the fun stuff living on their own because it doesn't have to be difficult. It doesn't have to b scary. It doesn't have lonely.
It's really targeting that mid 20s to mid 30s young professional who know trying to get the perfect pouch, perfect carrier, perfect dishes, entertainment style.
Women increasing have this sort of protractive period of working on their carriers and making family out of plans and really running a household of their own and we wanted to sort of celebrate that.
I was really scared about it at first, but then I absolutely loved it and I wouldn't go back and this my third year living alone.
I think the perception that single women are reluctant to get their own place is changing. A lot of my friends once they hit their mid 20s, once who are not married already, they've said things like I don't have the guy-- but doesn't mean I can a life I want.
Living alone, a carrier lady gets text from handsome boyfriend.
My favorite things about living alone are I don't have to do the dishes immediately. I can make noise whenever I want and that's pretty when I can walk around naked.
In 2007, we found out that single girls were stopping of how [unknown] the rate that single men were accounting for one out of every 5 home sold. I think sometimes you kind of miss having someone who just like chat with, but you know, I just end up calling people. That sounds bad. Can we like fix that.
So, we have a lot of fun with that, but there's also a lot of useful information too about how to sort of, you now, sustain yourself about going to the you know frozen dinners for one all the time.
One of the issues that I think women have when they live on their own and is what next to eat, no one can be bothered to cook a meal. You know got to doing a fancy salad with nice little chips if you're living on own.
We have Kelley Wegel who has written a number of great cookbooks and pieces on how to entertain and shop and cook, so really, you know why it's easy step from her about how you can stock a refrigerator. You know, it's not as hard to keep yourself alive, you know, stylishly and run a kitchen as you might think. A lot of just easy things that you can make up for a long day at work that don't take much time and you can have some staples on pantry and your refrigerator and freezer and always be able to pour together a quick meal.
Katie is a cookbook wishes just come out. Now, as wishing it now I thought has voice that's very lively and fun and it's really more like a friend telling you how to make food. If you're gonna buy one kind of pasta, make it spaghetti. You can make Thai noodles with some peanut butter, soy sauce, again with the broth and some frozen vegetables.
So, we are first who come up with the solutions for girls living on their own and really fun. They are really good and they're really quick and cheap.
My entertaining thoughts C has lot like my fashion to recipe. I call it the C's; casual, classic, and it's a couture. Just keep it easy and effortless.
I was so stressed out about buy a place that like there's no budget for decorating, forget it and we're gonna use all the old crap that I have pieced together from renting.
I think just plan well like kind of figure out exactly what you want, go to your magazines full features, see what you like and then come out with the plan.
I think what's great [unknown] is she says look we understand you haven't got 200,000 dollars to spend on furniture. Don't worry about buying a fancy book case, but get rid of those standard fixtures that are in all apartments when you move in and get a fantastic chandelier.
eBay and [unknown] I swear god, that's what's I'm buying even client are on budget that's where I buy 50% of my stuff. It's really a waste of using the money then you've got to create individuality with the few items that really a lot of about. if there's some common treat and between like see how the paisley and the stripe, but one color and there at that time and bought together, you're good, because it does not have to match as you can feel like my apartment. I don't believe in like matchy-matchy. It's little boring, go check a color or certain vibe and they totally work and don't be scared.
You're kind of having life stages where you start out with a roommate and eventually grow up or grow out of roommate and decide you wanna take some time try living on your own.
Are you gonna decorate, entertain, launch your carrier. It's like a real interlude that can happen if you take this very seriously.
