How to Wear Red Lipstick Video

Hi. I'm Ying Chu, the beauty director of Marie Claire. I'm here at Space. NK in New York. And I'm gonna be speaking with red lipstick queen Poppy King. So, Poppy you are known as the lipstick queen, how did you earn that moniker? Speaker: Well I have been wearing red lipsticks the moment, well actually I lied. I was wearing it in high school, you're not supposed to. Officially in the moment that I finish high school. Speaker: Was there someone who inspires you to wear red? What drew you to it? Speaker: Well it was really when I was a teenager watching all those sort of classic movies and seeing that fantastic sort of classic 1940's mouth. Basically I always wanted to be able to sort of recreate that look, but in a modern way. Speaker: Now I'm always impressed by how perfect your lipstick always looks... Speaker: Oh thank you. Speaker: Have a whole meal and just go to drink, do a presentation, and there's no lipstick on your teeth, there's nothing smudge, how do you keep it that way? Speaker: Well, it depends on the lipstick and I guess it's you know clearly unbiased it was mine... Speaker: Right. Speaker: But I would say that the general tip is you're looking for a lipstick whether it will be red or any color... Speaker: Uh huh. Speaker: is the key well I said full traction that it doesn't feel too slippery that it actually has some grip as you're putting it on. Speaker: Okay. Speaker: And that really, really will be a long lasting lipstick and if you're not used to seeing yourself in red. Speaker: Right. Speaker: Wear it around the house. Like do the vacuuming or any... Speaker: In all red lipstick. Speaker: You know do the dusting, well, you know, lets not get to sossy. Speaker: Now how does someone go about finding the right shade for them? Speaker: The right red will make your hair, your skin, and your eyes light up. The number one absolute, all time tip for wearing red lipstick in the 21st century... Speaker: Uh huh. Speaker: Is to minimize your eye makeup. You really need to be much more strategic with all your adornment... Speaker: Right. Speaker: 'Cause red lipstick is so much of a statement that you could sort of pair back to other things. Put your red lipstick on first and then do your eye makeup because then you will know where to stop. Play around, its like be your own lipstick queen and play around.
