The four men who attacked a woman in New Delhi last December have been convicted of rape and murder, according to The New York Times. Family members of the victim, along with the public are demanding the death penalty. The four men will appear at a sentencing trial on Wednesday.
The 23-year-old woman was boarding a bus with a male friend after a movie when the four men attacked the pair, knocking her friend unconscious, and raping her in the back of the bus. The woman died two weeks later from sustained injuries.
The horrific crime, which prompted severe public outrage, resulted in the government strengthening some sexual violence laws, while reporting on rape cases appear more frequently across India's newspapers.
