Note to those living in or planning to visit New York: Beware of subway rats racing toward you at breakneck speed. The other day I was standing on the platform at 42nd Street waiting for a local train, when a rat actually RAN OVER my foot. It happened so fast, I didn't even see the thing. I felt it, I gasped, I saw a flash of something zooming around the corner. I looked at the guy next to me, who was equally startled. Like a true New Yorker, I had been multitasking at the time of the incident, putting on my mascara for the day with the use of a tiny makeup mirror. Now I know to be more alert. Good thing, because that very night, while I waited for the train to take me home from 57th Street, yet ANOTHER rat started racing toward me on the platform. But this time I was READY, and I dodged it. No joke.
