You read it, you loved it, and you probably put it on the shelf and haven't picked it up in years. Well, HarperCollins has a new reason to revisit The Alchemist, originally published in 1988: They've turned it into a graphic novel!

The Alchemist: A Graphic Novel

Author: Paulo Coelho, Brazilian author of 26 books -- fun fact: He's the best-selling Portuguese language author of all time!

Genre: Illustrated version of a classic allegorical novel

What Happens: A young Spanish shepherd travels across the Egyptian desert to seek an extravagant treasure, and on the way he encounters a king, a Gypsy woman, and an alchemist, all of whom help point him toward the treasure and, of course, teach him a few life lessons as well. (It is an allegory, after all...)

Why Read It (Again!): The bright, vivid, sometimes even sexy (is that weird to say?) illustrations bring new life to the classic story and remind us why it's one of the best-selling books of all time.

Details: HarperOne, $22.99, November 23
