Don't Miss These DVDs

Amy Poehler, Parker Posey, and Rachel Dratch star in Spring Breakdown (on DVD June 2), the story of three 30-somethings who attempt to revamp their tragically lame lives by going on a boozy, sexy, co-ed-packed spring break. Despite the big names—and big laughs—the movie went straight from Sundance to DVD. But don't miss this one just because it bypassed theaters. Check it out, along with our top straight-to-DVD picks to add to your Netflix queue tonight:

1. Idiocracy (Luke Wilson, Justin Long, Maya Rudolph)
What it's about: Wilson plays Joe Bauers, a truly average Joe who's part of a government-run hibernation experiment. He awakens 500 years later to find that he's the smartest man alive.

Why we like it: A cute guy who's also really smart? Sign us up.

2. Powder Blue (Jessica Biel, Forrest Whitaker, Patrick Swayze, Lisa Kudrow)
What it's about: The movie follows four strangers on Christmas Eve at a local strip club as they form a web of connections through chance meetings and coincidences.

Why we like it: Patrick Swayze gets some serious dirty dancing.

3. Personal Effects (Michelle Pfeiffer, Ashton Kutcher, Kathy Bates)
What it's about: Recently widowed Linda (Pfeiffer) meets brooding college boy Walter (Kutcher) at a grief support group. The two carry on a dark romance as both cope with their loss.

Why we like it: Knowing Kutcher goes for the older ladies in the movies and in real life.

4. Suburban Girl (Sara Michelle Gellar, Alec Baldwin)
Young book editor Brett (Gellar) falls in lust with an older, attractive and influential editor, Archie (Baldwin). After finding out all the baggage Archie carries around, she gets the confidence to leave him for a less successful-but better-boyfriend.

Why we like it: She doesn't judge the (second) book by its cover.

5. I Could Never Be Your Woman (Michelle Pfeiffer, Paul Rudd, Fred Willard)
What it's about: Rosie (Pfeiffer) tries to balance being a TV exec/single mom and a new romance with the much younger, charismatic Adam (Rudd). But Mother Nature gives her help in the process.

Why we like it: It's a modern day Cinderella story, complete with fairy godmother, cute Prince Charming and a happy ending.

She writes short-short stories for her website, Fine Words Butter No Parsnips (butternoparsnips.com)

As Associate editor of the Radar section, I obsess daily over movies, television, celebrities and music. A southern girl at heart and Brooklyn by address, my skill set also extends into witty asides, vintage shopping, planning themed parties, brunching, entertaining, applying eyeliner, dancing, concocting bourbon mint iced tea, gift giving, movie quoting, coffee drinking and Elvis spotting. I love conversations that begin with "remember the time...", am still paying off my student loans (and then some), and have fallen madly in love - with my DVR.
