Kirsten Gillibrand's New Rules for Our New Economy
By Jennifer Heyde
Women have made extraordinary economic strides since President Kennedy signed the Equal Pay Act into law 50 years ago — but we're not nearly there yet. Today, women are graduating from college and earning graduate degrees in higher numbers than men and yet only receive 77 cents to a man's dollar. Clearly, there's work to be done.
And leading the charge is Senator Kirsten Gillibrand who recently laid out her Opportunity Plan; 5 simple policy steps (see below) devised to empower women and achieve our goals.
1. Paid Family & Medical Leave
2. Equal Pay for Equal Work
3. Raising the Minimum Wage
4. Universal Pre-K
5. Making Quality Affordable Child Care Accessible
