The body of 2013 is not Lena Dunham, it's not Rebel Wilson, and it's certainly not Kate Upton. Our favorite funny lady Mindy Kaling has come forward in the Sept. 29 issue of Parade magazine with some pretty interesting statements regarding her famous curves — statements about female body confidence that ring very true for us at MC.
"I always get asked, 'Where do you get your confidence?' I think people are well meaning, but it's pretty insulting. Because what it means to me is, 'You, Mindy Kaling, have all the trappings of a very marginalized person. You're not skinny, you're not white, you're a woman. Why on earth would you feel like you're worth anything?'"
The Mindy Project star and creator certainly has a point. Why must a woman's confidence and personal body image be constantly under a microscope, often in place of the work she's creating?
"There are little Indian girls out there who look up to me, and I never want to belittle the honor of being an inspiration to them. But while I'm talking about why I'm so different, white male show runners get to talk about their art."
Good point there. After all, Kaling is the first Indian American woman to carry a network TV sitcom — not to mention, a network TV sitcom that is extremely well done. We know the 34-year-old is a role model (she told us herself in Parade), but we'd like for her to promote her art when given the opportunity, rather than her aforementioned curves — though they are killer.
