Cate Blanchett Is Taking the Year Off from Acting, Here's What She Plans to Do Instead

Well, this is unexpected.

In a recent interview with Harper's Bazaar UK, for which she is the February cover star, Cate Blanchett revealed she will be taking some time off from the Hollywood scene in 2016. The actress closed out last year strong both personally and professionally: adopting her daughter Edith with husband Andrew Upton earlier in the spring, then going on to receive high praise for her role in the film Carol. Needless to say, a hiatus is well-deserved.

So what will the Oscar-winning A-lister do with her free time? Get her hands dirty with some decidedly regular tasks.

"I'd like to learn to do something, like, be able to fix a car or work a computer. You know, those basic things that a lot of people can do, but I can't," Blanchett told PopSugar on the red carpet at the Palm Springs International Film Festival this weekend. "I have a sewing machine—I hope I haven't lost the instruction manual—but I'd like to be able to learn how to use it."

No doubt we'll be looking at a wrench-wielding, computer-programming, thread-stitching Cate come year's end. Because why stop at award-winning?
