In addition to becoming a CoverGirl and releasing new music, Zendaya's list of recent feats now includes being cast in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot, helmed by Sony and Marvel. The film already features rising star Tom Holland (Billy Elliot) as Peter Parker.
Zendaya's role is still unknown, but sources have told Variety that she won't be a lead or love interest. However, her character is said to become more important in later installments of the franchise. Other actors attached to the project include Marisa Tomei as Parker's Aunt May.
So far, info on the action flick remains secret, but the new saga is expected to focus on Parker's later high school days. Viewers will get a glimpse of the updated superhero when Holland makes an appearance in Marvel's Captain America: Civil War, which premieres May 6.
Holland's portrayal of Spider-Man will be the third since 2000. Tobey Maguire popularized the role in 2002 and Andrew Garfield starred in a reboot in 2012. This iteration will be directed by Jon Watts (Clown, Cop Car) and produced by Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal.
Considering its July 2017 release and growing star-studded cast, this Spider-Man is bound to be next year's summer blockbuster.
