Ashley Graham sees herself as an ambassador for curvy women, and she takes that role seriously. While backstage hosting at the Miss USA pageant tonight, the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue cover model spoke out on behalf of body diversity, something that's obviously lacking in the world of beauty pageants.
As the final 15 contestants walked off the stage at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Ashley talked about how scary it is to strut around in front of a crowd while only wearing a swimsuit—something she knows a lot about. She then snuck in a line about a cause near and dear to her, saying, "Pageants now, I'm hoping, are going to start putting curvy and plus-size women in front of the camera."
In an interview with USA Today, Miss USA telecast co-host Julianne Hough suggested that the swimsuit competition might not be a permanent fixture of the competition. She said, "In the next few years we may grow from that, but let's see where this year goes."
For now, here's proof that a woman can be gorgeous in a bikini or an evening gown, no matter what her size, as demonstrated by Ashley Graham herself.
