So, I have a theory. When someone makes a dramatic hair change, they're probably about to go through a breakup. Or quit their job. Or pack up their things and move to Australia.
Because when someone chops off all their hair, or goes blonde, or gets a perm, they want to change things—they're just starting with their hair.
So when The Weeknd cut off his hair—the hair he's known for, the hair that sparked a thousand memes—I was pretty sure a split from Bella Hadid was on the way. AND I WAS RIGHT.
The Weeknd, however, does not agree with my theory.
In an interview with Zane Lowe, The Weeknd explained why he decided to cut off his hair, and didn't mention anything about a sudden need to make big life changes. Damn it.
Instead, his reasoning was simple: his hair just didn't feel right anymore.
"The vision wasn't there anymore," he explained. "It was there and then just like the music, it was getting really sad."
Fair enough. The Weeknd then went on to chat about how happy he is with his new 'do, commenting that he feels so much "lighter".
"It was the greatest feeling of all time," he said. "It was so good. I could sleep better, I felt lighter, and when I perform, I perform better and feel better, it's cool. The best part about all of it, I get to wear fucking hats again. Wear a fucking cap and walk into a restaurant and nobody knows it's you, It's the greatest feeling."
Wearing a cap is pretty great, tbf.
Now, he says, his chopped off hair lives in the safe of his manager. You know, just in case he needs it.
