Prince William seems upset by a lot of things lately, but he's reportedly not thrilled about Meghan Markle telling Oprah the truth about false rumors that she made Kate Middleton cry. As a reminder, turns out “the reverse happened" and Kate was the one who made Meghan cry—something the palace never corrected despite Meghan's multiple requests.
Apparently William isn't happy that the truth has come to light, and is more upset about Kate being brought up in the Sussexes' Oprah interview than anything that was said about him (FYI, all Harry really said is that he loves his brother and they just need space right now).
"William is very protective of Kate and can get very angry," biographer Penny Junor tells People. "For Meghan to name Kate in a negative light is worse than being attacked himself."
Meanwhile, royal reporter Katie Nicholl reported that Kate is "mortified" by the truth coming out, saying Kate “has never wanted any suggestion of a rift with Meghan to come out in the press,” and adding that “Kate is so discreet and respects her personal life. You never hear about her falling out with anyone because she is very careful with how she treats others. So for this story to be circulating is very hard. Kate felt [the incident] was all sorted, so to have it brought up again was mortifying.”
As a reminder, Meghan told Oprah: “A few days before the wedding, [Kate] was upset about something—yes, the issue was correct, about the flower girl dresses—and it made me cry and it really hurt my feelings.” She also explained that Kate “owned it, and she apologized and she brought me flowers and a note apologizing.”
It's unclear if Meghan and Kate have gotten a chance to speak, but as of yesterday no one in the family had reached out to Meghan.
