It would be perfectly logical to assume the purpose of Amal and George Clooney's trip to Rome was so Amal could continue her world tour of Chic and Smart Aren't Mutually Exclusive (opens in new tab), but her trophy husband (opens in new tab) had a reason to be there too: to serve as an ambassador for Pope Francis' arts foundation.

Alongside Richard Gere and Salma Hayek, George "B-A-N-A-N-A-S" Clooney (opens in new tab) shook hands with the religious leader while—apologies, there's no other way I would like to put this—straight cheesin'. Amal, on the other hand, smiled demurely in her three-quarter-sleeve Atelier Versace dress and a silk hat Donatella probably saw in Clayton's Gatsby.
