First dates are hard. What to wear to for said date? Probably harder. We scooped the Marie Clarie staff to get the deets on what The Perfect First Date Outfit looks like to 7 different editors, plus the one must-have item they won't leave home without wearing. Scroll through, take note, and make some plans.
I find that being more adventurous with my look is an excellent way to weed out basics. If you can't get down with a denim jumpsuit and fluffy curls, you're not my cup of tea.
I wrote about my love of jeans before, so it's no surprise they're my go-to for a first date. I like to know where they stand when it comes to sports teams or bands, so I tend to wear sports t-shirts or concert t-shirts—which is probably 50% of my wardrobe anyway. (Built in conversation starter, I might add.) My date-night must is anything that I think exemplifies "me"—AKA probably my LEGO earrings.
Winter date outfits are hard. A long-sleeved off-the-shoulder top is covered-up but still flirty—and great in white if you have a winter-getaway-tan to show off—and I'll wear it with big turquoise earrings, slim knee-ripped jeans to make the look more casual, and winterizing navy velvet flats. And because I'm tall.
For first dates, I always like to keep the vibe simple and chic (and all black...hah). My absolute go-to combo is my black skinnies and a cute strappy heel. I think keeping it simple, with a little pop of sex appeal is key to the first date. Must haves—my accessories, including my ring, watch, and bracelet.
I feel most comfortable in pants, and you want to be comfortable on a first date, so I always gravitate towards black jeans. I know there's a lot of debate about whether you should wear heels or flats on a first date, but I am definitely in favor of wearing heels because I like to wear heels and I don¹t want to tailor my shoe choice for no man. If he can't deal with my height, then bye Felicia. The top I chose because it¹s ladylike and I like to put my ladylike foot forward first with a new guy—I'll bring out the cleavage on a second date. Must have: My necklace from In God We Trust that says f*ck off. I like to wear it so the boys know I don't mess around.
If you can't handle me at my Gucciest...
Must have? My Apple Watch so I can text secret emoji updates/pointedly check the time if it's a flop.
