Alex Consani is, in her own words, “a big motherfucker Leo.”

The model was born on July 23, the first day of Leo season, so Pandora couldn’t have found a more enthusiastic face for the new zodiac-inspired chapter of the jewelry brand's Talisman collection. Launched on August 26, the latest collection introduces more than 30 charms, rings, and chain necklaces inspired by the zodiac and four elements, with medallions, cameos, Latin inscriptions, and celestial motifs designed to evoke the qualities associated with each sign. For Consani, the collection’s zodiac theme is personal. “I’ve really connected with myself a lot through my astrology sign,” she tells Marie Claire at the collection’s launch party, held at L.A.’s Hollywood Roosevelt and featuring attendees like True Whitaker, Ella Emhoff, and Vivian Wilson. And the trait she identifies most strongly with? “Not giving a fuck, for sure. I think that’s something that a lot of Leos that I meet kind of share.”

It’s an accurate description of her approach to fashion, too. While modeling requires her to inhabit many fashion personas, Consani says her off-duty style is guided by how she’s feeling that day. “Fashion is a really good way to express what you’re feeling internally,” she explains. “When I’m in a good mood, my clothing reflects that. I wear things that are maybe a little bit more scandalous or risqué—like, oops, a boob might pop out.”

For Consani, whose irreverent social media presence is every bit as unfiltered as her personal style, even a wardrobe malfunction can become a social opportunity. “Someone’s like, ‘Oh girl, your boob is out,’ and I’m like, ‘Thank you.’ It’s a nice way to talk to people... it initiates conversation,” she says. “You make a connection with people through fashion.”

Jewelry plays a similar role in her wardrobe. Consani calls herself “a light jewelry girl,” which, in her world, means that when she does accessorize, it’s “a statement, even if it’s minimal.” She uses jewelry strategically, “to accentuate my outfit”: a necklace to highlight the neckline of a low-cut dress, a bracelet to add interest to a more covered-up look.

In keeping with Pandora’s emphasis on jewelry with personal meaning, Consani is also sentimental about the pieces she wears. Some of Consani's first came from her mother—“not given, stolen,” she jokes. “They’re from someone that I love, so I know that the stones hold good vibes,” Consani says. “That’s a really big part of jewelry pieces, just making sure that they carry the right energy.”

The campaign’s focus on identity and self-expression also tracks with Consani’s own style evolution. She only has to look back a few years to see how much hers has changed. “A thousand percent,” she says. Modeling, she says, has become a fashion education of sorts, exposing her to designers, stylists, and collaborators who have helped refine her personal style. “When I look back at that version of myself, it’s not something that I regret. I honestly look back, and I’m inspired,” she says. “It just differs as you grow up and learn more about what you like, what you don’t like.”

Certain Consani-isms, however, remain permanent. “I’ll always be a slut in one way or another,” she says. “Even if it’s classy, I think that there are always elements of myself that I like to be a little bit risqué. And I think that that's something that is maybe a part of me being a Leo; maybe it's a part of just how I grew up and my own expression.”

Her look for the Pandora party proves the point: a strapless Blumarine dress with a thigh-high slit, topped off with a wig, a look she’s currently trying out. “This is a new thing for me, and I enjoy it,” she says, adding that style experimentation is something everyone could use more of right now. “We should be able to just say fuck it because I think we take ourselves too seriously.”

That refusal to take herself—or the fashion world—too seriously has become part of Consani’s appeal. Despite an increasingly public career, she credits her inner circle with keeping her grounded. “I’m around people that really make me feel special outside of the job that I do and make me feel special for the human that I am,” she says. “Having a chosen family is really important for me.”

This summer, she has also found a more literal way to tune out the noise: putting down her phone. “I’ve been off my phone, which is the first time I’ve done that in a while,” she says. “It’s been quite nice and inspiring to find the world again.” She’s been "feeling very '80s," listening to the radio instead: “I feel like an old-school bitch.”

Up until pretty recently, I took frizz as an accepted fact in my life, as fixed as my height or my eye color. This can mostly be chalked up to two other facts, one also fixed, the other less so. Firstly, I’ve got desert-dry, coily hair, which is unaffected by oils, leaving my strands extremely vulnerable to lifted cuticles. And secondly, I live in New York City, a literal subtropical island that is very, very humid. What Causes Frizzy Hair?

If your hair has lifted cuticles—which can be caused by dryness, damage, or simply genetics (shoutout to the high-porosity baddies) —you’re more likely to experience frizz than your flat-cuticle counterparts, especially in a humid climate. “Two factors contribute to frizz: humidity in the air—I'm looking at you, Florida—and cuticle damage/porosity of the individual hair strand,” Medico explains. “The more porous the hair, the more likely it is to absorb moisture on a steamy day. Once that excess moisture gets into the cuticle, the bonds react by folding in on themselves, and pop goes the frizz!”

If the goal is banishing frizz, and frizz is caused by moisture entering lifted cuticles… you gotta seal up those cuticles. “Look for ingredients that smooth, condition, or help create a barrier around the hair fiber,” says VanGelder; think butters like murumuru and shea, oils like coconut and almond, and, if your hair isn’t too fine and can handle their potential weightiness, silicones.

The Love Hypothesis trailer opens with Lili Reinhart, who plays Olive Smith, wearing a lab coat. But even though she portrays a biology Ph.D. candidate in the book adaptation, Reinhart's press tour started on a not-so-method note. For "The Olive Soft Launch" on August 27, her stylist, Ib Abdel Nasser, dressed Reinhart in a fall cardigan fitting of a romance heroine.

One month before the film's Prime Video release, paparazzi captured Reinhart in a Resort 2027 skirt set from the Australian label Leo Lin. Looking every bit a rom-com lead, she wore a white tank top beneath the pink Claire Cardigan and the ivory Nori Mini Skort. The cropped cashmere wool-blend knit featured sweet floral appliqués, which complemented the bow-belted skirt's print.

The skirt set's "silhouette, patterns, and cheekiness" drew inspiration from 1999's Jawbreaker, a crime-comedy about a clique of teenage, cardigan-and-mini-skirt-wearing socialites, Nasser tells Marie Claire over email. The "naughty tailoring," on the other hand, paid homage to the actor's most recent character, Apple, in Forbidden Fruits (the film that brought Nasser and Reinhart together).

"Apple will always have a special place in me and Lili’s hearts, but Olive will have a different approach for sure," he says.

Staying true to candy-colored looks straight out of the '90s, Reinhart accessorized with matching Andrea Wazen peep-toe Carol Mules. For the finishing touches, the 29-year-old wore a black bow in her Riverdale-ready ponytail (IYKYK), the creamy Valentino DeVain bag, stud earrings from Melinda Maria, and a $900 pink pear-cut ring, courtesy of New York City-based brand Bondeye Jewelry.

The press tour attire for Reinhart's Love Hypothesis era has been in the works for almost a year. In fact, Marie Claire played a small part in the creative process: "When we started having conversations about what we were going to do for The Love Hypothesis, I started at this article," Nasser says, referencing our coverage of Reinhart's little black dress from De La Vali. The floral slip served "as a starting point for what became our moodboard for The Love Hypothesis press tour," he added.

Reinhart's rom-com era is just getting started, but it's already one for the, well, books. As for future step-and-repeats, Nasser says fans of Ali Hazelwood's New York Times best-seller will be happy.

"Both Lili and I are chronically online," he says, suggesting that he keeps tabs on reader requests. "We love all the fans, all the joy and passion they have for this film. We want to give them what they want, what they deserve."

Luckily for me, fall 2026's lineup is more tempting than ever.

On my quest to find the best, I found brands getting delightfully playful with their flats—styles experimenting with form, color, and embellishments. In other words, flats that will elevate even the most basic of outfits.

When the season finale of Let’s Marry Harry dropped on August 12, 2026, the Netflix Reality Universe entered a new phase. Pop culture fans didn’t wonder which lucky lady the bachelor in question—in this case, notorious dating-show player Harry Jowsey—chose, as is typical of reality finales. Rather, they wanted to know whether he had actually gotten legally wed at all. They got their answer days later: Jowsey himself admitted the answer was no.

But the reveal didn't feel all that surprising. It simply proved the fundamental paradox behind Netflix's hit reality slate is catching up with the streamer: Dating shows shouldn't involve marriage.

The pursuit of love on reality TV has always been a conundrum, but Netflix takes dissonance to the next level. Since Love Is Blind became a cultural phenomenon amid the COVID lockdowns, the streamer has fashioned its most popular unscripted shows around the notion that marriage is the ultimate prize. Despite its abysmal success rate, each Love Is Blind reunion boasts at least one married couple to espouse that the show can bring contestants love. The most recent season of The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On—another toxic show from the same production team behind LIB—ended with the NRU’s first reunion wedding. (Fear not: The happy couple signed the marriage certificate on-screen.) And it’s not just the Lachey-hosted shows: Temptation Island and Age of Attraction both touted engagements. Never mind that the age-gap series notably included commitment ceremonies rather than proposals; the couples still exchanged promise rings.

So why did Let’s Marry Harry, which came out less than a month after The Ultimatum’s impromptu nuptials, end with a wedding but not a marriage? According to a production source, the lack of a signed certificate was to avoid spoilers. This choice meant that the competition ended with an empty prize, if not for the contestants, then for viewers lacking media literacy who took the happy ending at face value. Jowsey spends the entire series expressing that his father's death was a wake-up call that made him long for commitment. During the finale wedding, he dons his father's glasses while reading his vows. When he never truly had anything on the line—unlike his contestants, who subject themselves to social-media scrutiny for the chance at a husband—all of those assertions of growth ring hollow.

Only Jowsey himself knows his true intentions, but after the LMH reunion, it seems that he didn’t take the symbolic lifetime commitment very seriously. He and his “ex-wife,” Amber Mozo, broke up less than two months after the wedding. Amber has accused Harry of cheating on her while they were together, with both runner-up Dannelle Davidson and an influencer who he’s now dating.

Over my five years covering Love Is Blind and other shows, I’ve become increasingly cynical that these marriage-pilled dating shows are anything other than a new frontier of the outrage economy. Each season has presented more “fairy tale” pod love stories; more jaw-droppingly toxic men; more controversies that reach new levels of horror when you realize that the unwitting party (usually the woman) may be legally bound to the cheater, gaslighter, or misogynist at the end. The entire dating-show genre was built on a foundation of indignation; however, many of Netflix’s predecessors—from Joe Millionaire to Flavor of Love to the best seasons of The Bachelor—gave a self-aware wink to the audience that contestants saw love as more of a “would-be-nice” prospect compared to fame, financial security, or a free vacation. Even in the most misanthropic LIB season, there’s at least one person (typically a woman) who was earnestly looking for a life partner and ends the show genuinely heartbroken.

At a time when many young people (myself included) are trying to build lives outside of patriarchal norms, it’s hard for me not to see these shows as preying on a universal desire for partnership, at a time when marriage is on the decline. The producers—with married hosts like the Lacheys, the Willises, or the Vialls as their mouthpieces—ascribe marriage and babies as life’s biggest goal and then instill a scarcity mindset, via public humiliation, in women desperate to reach that next stage in life. Forget trad wives—these dating shows are the most effective way to reinforce gender norms to viewers trying to escape politics.

The dating show that proves marriage isn’t needed for high stakes or swoonworthy romance is the same one that threatens Netflix’s reality supremacy. Love Island USA’s endgame is much less dramatic; becoming boyfriend and girlfriend is the highest level of commitment the contestants make. LIUSA is not without its flaws (and is inevitably an influencer talent incubator), but proves that you don’t need an on-screen marriage or engagement to create a can’t-miss season of television and a pop-culture phenomenon.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem that Netflix is lightening up on its marriage-pilled reality shows any time soon. The streamer recently announced Netflix, Will You Marry Me?, an interactive dating competition where subscribers will vote live on a potential wife for a to-be-announced bachelor. The announcement promises, “The thrill of swiping on friends’ dating apps just got amplified”—a telling pitch, considering dating apps have arguably destabilized modern dating culture. I’m expecting Netflix, Will You Marry Me? to take over social media when it comes out, as it spurs the latest monocultural argument of heterosexual mating norms. I’m also praying that viewers will look beyond the urge to argue which of the contrived, edited relationships are marriage-worthy. Instead, we should all question why marriage is seen as a measure of worth, and why reality TV wants women to covet it.

The new King Haakon VIII of Norway has a tough act to follow after his father, King Harald V, died at the age of 89 on Friday, August 28. Known as the grandfather of Norway, the king was widely beloved by the public. But Haakon and his wife, Queen Mette-Marit, are facing an uncertain future as they attempt to increase their popularity—and Mette-Marit has found herself embroiled in numerous scandals over the years.

Born Mette-Marit Tjessem Høiby, the now-queen’s father was a convicted felon, and she went on to date John Ognby—a convicted criminal himself—before welcoming a son, Marius Borg-Høiby, in 1997 with one of Ognby’s friends (also a felon).

She worked as a waitress to support herself and her young son and later met Crown Prince Haakon at a music festival in the summer of 1999. Their romance moved quickly and an engagement was announced in December 2000, to the shock of the Norwegian public.

In a pre-wedding interview, Mette-Marit admitted to having a wild past on the rave scene involving drugs and partying, but said those days were over. Still, it took time for the public to warm to her. A 2001 article in the Independent slammed Mette-Marit after their wedding, writing, "the general view that she is totally unsuited to her designated role as Queen of Norway."

Over the years, the now-Queen Mette-Marit dedicated herself to charity work and welcomed two children with her husband, Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus. But in 2024, her eldest son, Høiby, was arrested on numerous occasions, and in 2026, he was charged on two counts of rape.

Høiby, who is waiting on an appeal trial, was sentenced to four years in prison and is currently on house arrest. The high-profile trial put a negative spotlight on Mette-Marit and her family, especially after allegations swirled that she may have attempted to withhold information or shield her son during investigations.

The new queen also made headlines in early 2026 when emails she sent to her then-friend, Jeffrey Epstein, were released in the Epstein files. The messages sent shockwaves through the Norwegian public, including one that read, "Googled you after the previous email. Agreed, it didn't look good :)."

In March 2026, Mette-Marit gave a tearful interview during which she apologized for her actions. She noted it was “incredibly important” to her “to take responsibility for not checking his background more carefully.”

Explaining that she didn’t recall what the Google-related email was about, she added, “But if I had found information that made me realize that he was an abuser and sex offender, I wouldn't have written a smiley face behind it.”

In addition to her public controversies, Queen Mette-Marit has also suffered from health setbacks over the past decade. In 2018, the royal court announced she was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis, a chronic condition that causes scarring in the lungs and difficulty breathing. By the spring of 2026 she was using an oxygen tank, and the new queen received a lung transplant in June.

Now that she’s become queen, Mette-Marit must rehabilitate her public image. According to Reuters, a recent TV2 poll in Norway found that 47.6 percent of Norwegians thought she should not become queen, and the royal family’s overall popularity dipped from 70 percent to 60 percent in February 2026.

From a fashion-insider POV, Fall 2026 runway shows inspired Serena Williams to sample the cobalt blue color trend on August 27. But bear in mind that the tennis legend has been practicing for the 2026 US Open all week—on cobalt-colored courts. Perhaps the electric shade was Williams's way of representing tennis-core at a pre-US Open pickleball tournament.

One week before her first doubles match with her sister, Venus Williams, Serena traded her racquet for a paddle at New York City's ninth annual Palace Invitational. The athlete—with six US Open trophies to her name—didn't just win the tournament: Her look was the clear champion, too.

Sourcing her entire outfit from Nike, the global brand ambassador wore a butter-yellow mini skirt, a blue track jacket over a peekaboo bra, and matching "Book 2 'JB'" sneakers. While the Loose Coaches Jacket is still available for $90, her quilted high-top basketball trainers launched less than a month ago, making them a hot ticket item for athletes and sneakerheads alike.

Always on board for a statement-making shade (especially during a tennis tournament), Williams has history with cobalt blue. Long before Dua Lipa, Jessie Buckley, and Anne Hathaway fell for the bold pigment, she wore it during the 2009 Australian Open. In fact, her outfit was not a far cry from her latest pickleball look: Back then, she similarly accessorized with butter-yellow head and wrist bands from Nike.

That's not to say Williams reserves the color for sporting events only. Two years ago, the style setter's cobalt-tinted fur coat turned heads in Balenciaga's Fall 2024 front row. Layering a black column dress beneath its fuzzy finish made the not-quite-indigo, not-quite-sapphire shade really shine.

Fast forward to the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show, and Williams reunited with the hue. Nike custom-made a blue cropped bomber jacket and pleated tennis skirt for the Grand Slam champion, who stole the show during Kendrick Lamar's "Not Like Us."

Clearly, I was wrong: Williams wasn't influenced by Chanel, Chloé, Givenchy, Saint Laurent, and more. If anything, she became their blueprint.

At Chloé's Fall 2026 show, the same color emerged from beneath a plaid, mossy green cape.

Meanwhile, Chanel's new creative director, Matthieu Blazy, sculpted a '20s-era, drop-waist dress out of bright blue tweed. The color peeked through from atop the corresponding jacket's supersized buttons.

Mugler boarded the cobalt blue bandwagon as well. The Fall 2026 show took a vibrant turn once an asymmetrical coat dress walked the runway. Its glossy satin sheen made the already striking shade even more memorable.

Norway has a new king, Haakon VIII, after his father, King Harald V, died at the age of 89 on Friday, August 28. The late king, who sat on the throne since 1991, ruled alongside his wife, Queen Sonja, and the couple shared two children, Princess Märtha Louise and the now-King Haakon. But although Märtha Louise was their first child, it was her brother who was destined to wear the crown.

When the princess was born in 1971, she had no place in the line of succession, as the Norwegian constitution still stated that only male children could inherit the throne. When Haakon was born in 1973, he became his father’s heir.

In 1990—a year before Haakon’s grandfather, King Olav, died—the Norwegian constitution was changed to allow females to rule, even if a younger brother was born down the line. The new law gave Märtha Louise a place in the line of succession for the first time, but unlike Sweden—which made the same change and applied it retroactively—Norway did not, making Haakon the country’s future king.

However, King Haakon and Queen Mette-Marit's first child, Princess Ingrid Alexandra, was born after 1990, meaning she will inherit the throne one day.

It seems Princess Märtha Louise has always been destined to walk her own path. King Harald’s eldest child is a controversial figure in Norway and has been widely criticized for her clairvoyant activities, along with her 2024 marriage to Hollywood shaman Durek Verrett.

Like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the two starred in a Netflix documentary about their unconventional royal romance titled Rebel Royals: An Unlikely Love Story.

In 2019, the Norwegian royal court stated that Märtha Louise was no longer allowed to use her princess title in her business endeavors and in 2022, she stepped down from royal duties to focus on her commercial activities. However, she attends major family events, and will likely be on hand to support her brother during his transition as king.

Although Norway does not hold coronations, Haakon could choose to take part in a ceremony like his father did in 1991. The consecration at Trondheim's Nidaros Cathedral is a formal church blessing of the new monarch, but Haakon would not have a crown placed on his head like King Charles.

This week, when Hailey Bieber and Zoë Kravitz endorsed the mules trend, I hibernated my flip-flops for fall. I should have waited: Less than 72 hours later, Kendall Jenner contradicted Bieber's invitation to kick off closed-toe season by recreating her friend's favorite jeans uniform—down to the sandals.

After a week in London with Jacob Elordi, where wedges or pointy pumps third-wheeled their every outing, Jenner couldn't wait to start her Flip-Flops Fall. She met friends for dinner in the dark denim trend, a long-sleeve black shirt, and matching leather thong sandals.

When it comes to choosing the best sunscreen for mature skin, Dr. Garshick says it’s simple: “ultimately the best sunscreen is the one that you will use and that you like.” However, “for those with sensitive skin, mineral sunscreen may be preferred.”

Dr. Palep strongly agrees. “The best sunscreen is the one you will wear daily, whether it is chemical or mineral.” That said, Dr. Palep thinks that “mineral sunscreen has a slight edge over chemical sunscreens for mature skin, as the UV filters sit on the skin’s surface and reflect UV rays away.” When it comes to chemical SPFs, they use UV filters that transform the sun’s rays into heat within the skin. “Since mature skin is more fragile than younger skin, my recommendation is to avoid having any UV rays absorbed into the skin,” she adds.

What Ingredients Should I Look for in a Sunscreen for Mature Skin?

First and foremost, Dr. Garshick recommends looking for broad-spectrum sunscreens with SPF 30 or higher. In terms of ingredients, she explains that “mineral filters, including zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, can be considered for those with sensitive skin.” Other ingredients to look for include hyaluronic acid and glycerin for hydration, niacinamide to calm the skin and improve overall skin tone, vitamin E to protect against free-radical damage, and peptides to help prevent fine lines.

According to Dr. Palep, “Zinc oxide is a strong UVA/UVB mineral sunscreen filter that also has anti-inflammatory properties, which are ideal for mature skin.” You also get the benefit of a broad-spectrum sunscreen, plus redness reduction and soothing, she explains. Additionally, “a tinted sunscreen is also great for mature skin as the pigment offers an additional layer of protection.”

I’ve tried almost all the acne-fighting ingredients and prescriptions over the past two decades. I’ve used the benzoyl peroxide and sulfur face washes. I’ve tried salicylic acid toners and glycolic acid peels. I’ve even spent years on Spironolactone and just about every prescription medication—from Aczone to Clindamycin—you can imagine. While treating acne will always require some personalization and, normally, the guidance of a fabulous board-certified dermatologist, there are two over-the-counter ingredients that can help set you up for the clearest skin. Enter: azelaic acid, an anti-inflammatory, antibacterial agent, and retinol, a vitamin A derivative that can help speed up cell turnover, a.k.a. one of the buzziest skincare combinations taking over your TikTok FYP.

“They complement each other because they address different aspects of acne-prone skin,” says board-certified dermatologist Lian Mack, MD. “Retinol keeps pores from becoming clogged and promotes skin renewal, while azelaic acid reduces inflammation and acne-causing bacterial activity, while also addressing pigmentation.” When you use both together, you’re able to target not just acne but clogged pores, inflammation, redness, and texture. Basically, it is a win all around.

That all being said, figuring out the best way to incorporate the ingredients into your skincare routine—like what strength to use and how to layer them—can be a little tricky. That’s where some help from the pros comes in. Here, Dr. Mack, along with board-certified dermatologist Ella Glaser, MD, are sharing their tips for maximizing the benefits of retinol and azelaic acid.

What Does Azelaic Acid Do for Your Skin?

Azelaic acid is such a powerhouse ingredient. I personally love it for managing redness and perioral dermatitis (it’s incredibly anti-inflammatory), but it’s such a versatile molecule. “By nature, it’s anti-inflammatory, anti-pigment-producing, and anti-bacterial,” says Dr. Mack. It’s particularly effective at targeting C. Acnes, one of the main driving forces for acne, explains Dr. Glaser.

“Azelaic acid inhibits tyrosinase, an enzyme involved in the production of melanin, which is what makes pigment in the skin. Not only is this ingredient great for reducing acne, but it also helps reduce the stubborn hyperpigmentation and redness that is often left behind from acne,” she adds. The multitude of benefits it offers, paired with its tolerability (even super sensitive skin types like yours truly can use it without issue) makes it a common ingredient to use for a handful of dermatologic disorders, from rosacea and acne to pigmentary conditions like post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and melasma.

What Does Retinol Do for Your Skin?

While we typically talk about retinol in the anti-aging sense—and don’t get me wrong, it’s incredibly effective at reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles—it’s actually one of the best tools in your acne-fighting arsenal. One of the main jobs of retinol is to speed up cell turnover. When that happens, there’s less sebum, a decrease in oil products, and therefore a smaller chance of dead skin cells getting clogged up in pores and turning into acne. This all being said, it’s important to call out that there are different strengths of retinol. “Retinoids, such as tretinoin, are the prescription-strength version and retinols are the over-the-counter version,” explains Dr. Glaser. “Unlike the prescription retinoids, retinols must be converted by the skin to the more active form, this makes it generally less potent and often more tolerable.”

If you're more on the sensitive side of the spectrum, using a retinol or retinyl esters (the gentlest form of a retinoid) is a safer better; however, if your skin can tolerate it, retinaldehyde or a prescription retinoid, like tretinoin, will give you better results, faster.

Is Azelaic Acid or Retinol Better for Acne?

Neither is necessarily better; they just work on different concerns. “For acne specifically, retinoids have a stronger role in preventing clogged pores and treating acne formation, so retinoids are often a cornerstone of acne treatment,” says Dr. Mack. “Azelaic acid is particularly attractive if you have inflamed acne, redness, sensitive skin, or dark marks left behind after breakouts.”

Can I Use Retinol and Azelaic Acid Together?

You can absolutely use retinol and azelaic acid together; just make sure you’re providing your skin with adequate hydration—you don’t want to end up with irritation. “The limiting factor isn't that the ingredients are incompatible, it's whether your skin can tolerate the combination because both ingredients can be irritating and drying,” explains Dr. Glaser. “For patients with sensitive skin, I would not introduce both simultaneously; allow the skin to adjust to one ingredient first before adding the second.”

If you do work your way to using both ingredients, consider using azelaic acid in your morning routine and retinol in your nighttime routine. If you’re going to use both at night, Dr. Glaser recommends putting on the azelaic acid formula first. Once you work up to dual usage, expect the combination to be particularly effective, especially if you have acne paired with post-acne dark marks or irritation, or clogged pores and an uneven texture, says Dr. Mack.

What Concentration of Retinol and Azelaic Acid Should I Use?

As a rule of thumb, azelaic acid is well-tolerated, and you can typically start with around 15 percent or a prescription-strength option. Retinoids, on the other hand, are more irritating. “Consider starting at a lower concentration, like .1 percent to .3 percent, and increase as tolerated,” says Dr. Mack. She also points out that azelaic acid is pregnancy-safe while retinol is not. But using the combination together is one of the most effective options to minimize acne breakouts, banish dark spots, and smooth the skin for a brighter, radiant complexion.

On Friday, August 28, King Charles shared a touching tribute to his cousin and fellow monarch, King Harald V of Norway, who died at the age of 89 on Friday morning.

“It is with the most profound sadness that my wife and I have learned of the death of my dear cousin, King Harald V of Norway,” The King wrote in an Instagram post. “For thirty-five years, King Harald served his people with unwavering dedication, guiding Norway through times of great change with warmth and humility.”

King Harald, who was a second cousin of Queen Elizabeth, was a second cousin once removed of King Charles. Harald and the late Queen shared the same great-grandparents, King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra.

“As Norway mourns the loss of so towering a figure, my whole family join in remembering a much-loved kinsman and friend whose kindness, compassion and deep sense of duty echoed from across the sea and across the decades,” King Charles’s statement continued.

He referenced the “dreadful trials” of World War II that shaped King Harald’s childhood, praising the “special bonds” between Norway and the United Kingdom.

“The Queen and I extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Queen Sonja and all her family, as Britain shares in Norway’s grief at this time of such heartbreaking loss,” he added.

Flags at Buckingham Palace, Clarence House, Windsor Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse are flying at half-staff to honor King Harald until 8 p.m. local time this evening.

Tributes from other monarchies from around the world also poured in, with King Frederik of Denmark posting a sentimental letter he and wife Queen Mary sent to Norway's new king, King Harald and Queen Sonja's son, Haakon.

“Dear Haakon, it is with great sorrow that we have learned about the death of your father, His Majesty King Harald," he wrote. "We send our warmest thoughts and condolences to Aunt Sonja, to you and Mette-Marit, and to your family."

The Danish royal affectionately referred to King Harald as "Uncle Harald," although he was a third cousin to King Frederik.

“Your father meant a great deal to my mother and both of us. With his warm and dry sense of humor and unwavering calm, Uncle Harald made others feel comfortable and at ease in his presence,” he added. “He was an extraordinary man, with a twinkle in his eye and a big heart.”

King Harald V of Norway has died at the age of 89, the Norwegian royal court announced on Friday, August 28. The king was Europe’s oldest living monarch and reigned since 1991 alongside his wife, Queen Sonja.

"It is with deep grief that we announce that His Majesty King Harald has passed away," a statement from the royal court read. "King Harald died peacefully at Oslo University Hospital Rikshospitalet Friday 28 August at 6:35 AM."

The couple’s son, Crown Prince Haakon, will rule as King Haakon, and his wife, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, will be Norway's new queen.

King Harald was taken to the hospital on August 17 and was treated for a bacterial infection in his blood, with the royal court announcing the morning of August 27 that his condition had become “very serious.”

Queen Sonja and Crown Prince Haakon canceled all of their previously scheduled royal events, rushing to the king’s bedside along with other members of the royal family Thursday.

Born on February 21, 1937, King Harald was the only son of Crown Prince Olav (later King Olav V) and Crown Princess Martha. His childhood was shaped by World War II, when the Norwegian royal family was forced into exile following Nazi Germany’s occupation of Norway.

Harald become the crown prince in 1957 following the death of his grandfather and spent decades preparing for the throne. He married Sonja Haraldsen, a commoner, in 1968, and ascended to the throne in January 1991 fathering the death of his father, King Olav.

An accomplished sailor, King Harald competed for Norway in three Olympic Games and remained passionate about the sport throughout his life.

He and Queen Sonja had two children, Crown Prince Haakon and Princess Martha Louise, and the king was grandfather to five grandchildren.

Although King Harald and Queen Sonja were beloved by the Norwegian people, the crown prince and princess's popularity took a dip after a serious of shocking incidents involving Crown Prince Haakon's stepson, Marius Borg Høiby, in the past two years.

Høiby, who is Crown Princess Mette-Marit's son from a previous relationship, was found guilty of two counts of rape in June and sentenced to four years in prison. However, he appealed the decision and was released on house arrest as he awaits an appeal trial.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit, who recently went through a lung transplant, also had a series of emails to her former friend Jeffrey Epstein released earlier this year, forcing her to apologize for her actions.

"It is important for me to apologize to all of you whom I have disappointed," she said in a statement. "Some of the content of the messages between Epstein and me does not represent the person I want to be. I also apologize for the situation I have put the Royal Family in, especially the King and Queen."

Funeral details for King Harald will be released in due course.

It seems all of my favorite fashion girls reserved their best Carrie Bradshaw-certified 'fits for a random week in August: While Kaia Gerber brought a Fendi Baguette bag to the 2026 US Open, Zoë Kravitz channeled the Sex and the City star's signature white T-shirt-micro shorts summer uniform. Now, Rosalía is dipping her feet into the Carrie Archives. The pop star appeared in Mexico City in a newspaper-print dress reminiscent of the Dior style Carrie famously wore in Season 3 of Sex and the City.

Ahead of her concert on August 27, the performer and her stylist, Jose Carayol, left pre-show sweats in her luggage. Instead, Rosalía flaunted Desigual's version of the iconic pattern. The $160 style from the Spanish brand featured a scoop neck and a collage of breaking news and crossword puzzles.

As recently as the May 2025 premiere of Hurry Up Tomorrow, Jenna Ortega and her stylist, Enrique Melendez, tracked down the cowl-neck dress worn by Parker on Sex and the City. It wasn't easy: Last year, Melendez told Marie Claire that Dior only agreed to share it for one day: "If we damaged it, we had to pay $250,000," he said. "I was almost in tears, because it fit [Ortega] like a glove."

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle touched down in Birmingham, England on August 26 to start their new chapter living in the U.K., and the first member of Harry’s family has spoken out on the couple’s surprising move.

The Duke of Sussex’s first cousin Lady Eliza Spencer, who is the daughter of Princess Diana’s brother Charles Spencer, told the Mirror that she was looking forward to Harry’s return to Britain.

“Absolutely, it’s exciting!” Eliza said during the launch of her rosé brand, Lala V, at London beverage retailer Hackstons on Wednesday night. “We would love to be able to find some time to visit.”

For a New York City resident like myself, it’s a welcome escape from cramped streets and honking taxi cabs. It’s the type of destination that beckons you to take a deep breath and live in the present—and that’s exactly what I did while staying at Hotel Nesslerhof, a five-star, family-owned luxury wellness resort located in the heart of Grossarl Valley.

Whenever I get off a flight, I always like to decompress properly. Given that I was running on four hours of sleep when I landed, I decided to book a soothing facial at Nesslerhof’s spa. With comfort in mind, I slipped into a relaxed button-down, a tank top, and roomy linen pants. This simple outfit took me straight from the treatment table to a laid-back lunch on the hotel’s terrace.

Exploring the Property

After visiting the spa, I took a tour of the hotel. Casual separates—including a tube top and a floaty maxi skirt—made it easy to walk around the property. My favorite part of the tour was settling into my suite, equipped with a cozy bed loaded with plush duvet covers. I proceeded to take a much-needed nap in my beloved silk pajama set from Eberey.

Dinner With a View

Right before sunset, the hotel arranged a breathtaking meal by the lake, where I indulged in veal tartare, mushroom consommé, and fried salmon trout fillet. While there wasn’t a formal dress code for this dinner, I wanted to take things up a notch. What can I say? I love an excuse to get all dolled up! I opted for a lace-trimmed satin skirt, a matching top, a pair of thong sandals, and a glossy shoulder bag.

Off to the Mountains

The following morning, the concierge team suggested a ride up the Kieserlbahn gondola. I’m generally afraid of heights, but I conquered my fear for the incredible mountain views. Temperatures were well over 80 degrees, so I dressed in a breathable biker jumpsuit and a baseball cap to shield my face from the sun. Then, I completed my outfit with cushioned sneakers and a functional fanny pack.

Poolside Lounging

A scorching morning in the mountains calls for a breezy afternoon by the pool. This was by far one of the highlights of my trip. There’s something so magical about a sparkling pool set against the backdrop of towering Alpine peaks. Believe me when I say, the pictures above don’t do it justice!

A Farewell Meal

To make the most of my last night, I dined at Atelier N, the hotel’s gourmet restaurant. The menu featured a savory soup, beef Wellington, buffet-style dessert, and wine selected straight from the hotel’s private cellar.

For the occasion, I wore a chocolate brown satin top and ivory trousers. This color combination always looks elegant, so it worked perfectly for my upscale dinner. I finished things off with sandals and a raffia crossbody bag from Polène, which earned me plenty of compliments.
