If you've ever wanted to live on a royal estate, now's your chance. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s longtime home, Royal Lodge, will be up for rent after the former Duke of York's lease ends in October, according to the Mail on Sunday.

King Charles evicted Andrew from Royal Lodge due to his associations with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, and the former Duke of York and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, vacated the building earlier this year.

Royal sources told the Mail on Sunday that no one in the Royal Family expressed interest in moving into the ex-duke's former property, which was previously the cherished home of the late Queen Mother.

"The Crown Estate is a business, so the bean counters there are relieved Andrew didn't give up his lease early, as the ongoing costs would have become their obligation, not Andrew's," a source said.

The home's new tenants would not only need to go through serious background checks in order to live in the 30-room home, located just over a mile away from Prince William and Princess Kate, but they'd also need a steady cashflow. Royal Lodge is reported to cost £400,000 a year (roughly $540,000) in upkeep.

The historic home has been crumbling for years, with property expert Robin Edwards of Curetons previously telling Marie Claire that the "substantial" repairs needed could land "in the in the range of £4 million to £5 million."

And as the Mail on Sunday reported, the "dilapidated condition" of Andrew's home "could mean an expensive repair job before a new tenant can be found."

Although options like turning Royal Lodge into a hotel or other commercial business could help solve the problem, an insider said that's not possible. "The Crown Estate's statutory duties require it to preserve the character of the estate as a royal park and forest. That means it has had to rule out turning it into a conference centre or commercial venture."

"The whole operation is going to cost the Crown Estate a lot of money and time," the source added.

Meghan Markle might be the most famous royal with American roots, but as the Sussexes settle into their new life back in Britain, there’s another member of the Royal Family who has American blood. Stephanie Green, author of American Crown, tells Marie Claire that Prince William will be the first British monarch with American ancestry—and he could even become an honorary U.S. citizen one day.

Green, who is active with the Daughters of the American Revolution, says that she was surprised to learn how Princess Diana “could have been a member” of the organization due to one of her patriot ancestors. The discovery sent Green down a rabbit hole of “sleuthing and discovering,” and the author found herself amazed with the story of Diana’s American ancestors, including her great-grandmother, Frances “Fanny” Burke Roche.

“She was one of the most celebrated beauties of the Gilded Age,” Green says. “She was born in New York in 1857 and I don't know if you watch the show The Gilded Age, but she is right out of that show.”

Much like Gladys Russell on the HBO period drama, Fanny Burke Roche married into the aristocracy, although her relationship with James Burke Roche, the son of an Irish lord, ended in divorce, as did her second marriage. Fanny died in 1947, and her granddaughter, Frances Shand Kydd, would give birth to the future Princess Diana in 1961.

Green says that she drew multiple parallels between Fanny’s life and Diana’s. The late princess's cousin, Lord Formoy, let Green borrow Fanny's diaries, and the author said the more she read about Diana's great-grandmother, the more she "realized how much she and Diana were alike."

"Diana, as you know, suffered from bulimia, from depression. So did Fanny. She's writing in her diary and she's covering every little margin of the diary page with just spilling her guts out about how unhappy she is, how trapped she is in these marriages that didn't work out, how trapped she is by her father," Green shares.

"So as I say in the book, despite all of their beauty, their clothes, their fabulous homes, their jewelry, these two women are just proof that you can be miserable and still have all of these things."

Like the late Princess of Wales, Diana’s great-grandmother also was the mother of two sons, and she says that twin brothers Maurice and Francis had “so much in common with Harry and William.”

“They both had glamorous mothers,” the author shares. “They both were the product of divorce. They both were subject to media speculation, and they both served their country in the military. They had transatlantic separations for a lot of their lives, but yet they remained very close brothers and they were always there to support each other.”

Green adds it makes her “very sad” to think about the comparisons between the two sets of brothers and see how Harry and William’s “relationship has deteriorated.”

As for Harry and Meghan's recent move back to the U.K., Green calls it "another twist to William's American story."

"The book is really about William because he's going to be King one day," she says, adding there's an "irony in having a King with all of this American blood, but having a brother whose wife is American who's going back and forth across the pond."

Diana’s American family ties don’t stop with the Gilded Age. Green says that the future King William’s family can be traced all the way back to the American revolution with his patriot ancestor, Benajah Strong, who was the uncle of famed spy and American martyr Nathan Hale.

Green visited Strong’s grave in Connecticut, which reads “food for worms,” and she said it struck her how ironic it was that his ancestor will become the future King.

“I have a chapter called ‘Food for Worms,’” she tells Marie Claire. “So you think, okay, this is William’s six-times great-grandfather who risked his life and his fortune to fight in the American Revolution to get rid of a King. And then in 2026, his sixth-time great-grandson is going to be King of England and he's going to be buried at Windsor Castle in this huge, ornate tomb.”

When asked what she'd like the U.S. public to know about Prince William's American connections, Green says she'd like to stress "How much closer we are than we think," adding, "And I'd like the British people to know that their future monarch is much closer to our country than we think."

"Having a royal family is within our DNA," she adds. "And so my hope is that someday Prince William will receive honorary American citizenship like Winston Churchill did. I just think it's a wonderful twist of history and I think it shows that families and countries are much closer than we than we think—and that story is still unfolding."

Yes! Hulu announced that Furious's season 2 renewal on August 27, days before the hit thriller's finale. The news isn't a huge surprise. Though Hulu hasn't released its streaming numbers yet, the series has a near-perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes and universal praise from critics.

"We are so overwhelmed and grateful for the love and support you have shown for our first season," executive producer and star Emmy Rossum said in an Instagram post sharing the renewal. "I can't wait to make more."

When will 'Furious' return for season 2?

Unfortunately, fans may have a bit of a wait until Furious returns to our screens for season 2. On the day of the thriller's renewal, The Hollywood Reporter wrote that the show's team is "still very early in the development process."

As for a possible timeline, Hulu first greenlit Furious back in March 2025. Filming taking place that fall, and season 1 eventually premiered on the streamer in late July 2026. If season 2 follows a similar timeline, new episodes could arrive on Hulu by fall 2027 or winter 2028.

Which cast members will return for 'Furious' season 2?

Hulu has yet to confirm that cast of Furious season 2, but it's guaranteed that Emmy Rossum will return to lead the series as Alice. The rest of the main cast is also likely to return, including Quincy Tyler Bernstine (Nora), Scoot McNairy (Danny), Rob Yang (Frank), Danny McCarthy (Ed), and Jake Lacy (Marshall).

After the events of the season 1 finale, it's unknown whether Lola Petticrew will reprise her role as the serial killer Catherine Grace. However, there is a chance that she could come back for a few episodes, as the avenging devil whispering on Alice's shoulder. (Also, here's hoping we get another scene between Catherine and Steve Way's Alden.)

What will 'Furious' season 2 be about?

The first season of Furious ends with Alice taking the first step from law enforcement to vigilante. By the end of the finale, both Alice and Nora have secured their jobs, with Nora holding evidence that her boss Ed had covered up Jay Easton's Espstein-esque crimes. Though Catherine is in jail, she admits that she's actually doing pretty well. Alice even starts a relationship with Danny.

But the FBI agent is also hiding a big secret: Jay Easton's death wasn't an accident. Alice killed him, smothering him in a rage after he taunted her for the nonconsensual intimate recording made when she was 14. Alice now has access to a list of over 50,000 people who've downloaded the video.

When Alice visits Catherine in prison in the final scene of season 1, Catherine guesses that Alice killed Easton. When the serial killer asks Alice if she liked how it felt, she just smiles, before the screen goes black.

Since the finale dropped, Liz Meriwether has given several interviews that include some hints of the show's possible trajectory. According to the creator, season 2 will likely follow Alice and Nora as they investigate a new grisly case.

"[As an] almost lifelong Law and Order SVU fan, I love the idea of a unit in the FBI that like takes on these cases....but one case over the course of a season," Meriwether told Mashable.

In a joint interview with Variety, Meriwether and Rossum also hinted that Alice will likely be struggling to unpack everything that happened in season 1, even as she starts her new position on Nora's team.

"When your worst fears are confirmed that that tape exists and that 50,000 people have watched your childhood trauma, I think there’s almost a peace at knowing you were right — and now, what do you do about it?" Rossum said. "And she got what she wanted, which was to get into that room and to get onto that squad. But I think that you know she’s on the next mission."

Meriwether added, "I never felt like we should be fully rooting for violence from either character. And I do feel like Alice’s choice to kill Jay in the end is a choice that makes sense for the character and where she is. But I also question if going forward, that choice is something that traps her a little bit."

King Haakon of Norway was officially sworn in as the country’s new monarch on Tuesday, September 1, but there was one important member of the royal family who wasn’t in attendance at the milestone event. Haakon’s wife, Queen Mette-Marit, had to skip the ceremony after suffering from unknown complications due to her recent lung transplant.

King Harald V died at the age of 89 on August 28, making his son Norway’s new king. Queen Mette-Marit was due to support her husband as he took an oath before parliament as the new king, but on Tuesday, the Norwegian royal court released a statement explaining her absence.

"It is not uncommon for complications to occur after a lung transplant. The Queen has had complications on some occasions since the operation, including today," pulmonologist Are Holm, Head of the Department of Respiratory Medicine at the National Hospital, said. "As a result, the Queen must be observed throughout the day. The Queen will therefore unfortunately not be able to attend the swearing-in ceremony in the Storting today."

King Haakon and Queen Mette-Marit’s 22-year-old daughter, Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra, stood in for her mother at the ceremony, sitting next to her father’s gilded chair.

Queen Mette-Marit, who suffers from pulmonary fibrosis, received her lung transplant in June. She was not scheduled to take on any formal duties for the rest of 2026 as she continues to recover from the surgery. However, King Harald’s death pushed the new queen into the spotlight. She held Queen Sonja’s hand on August 31 as they processed with King Harald’s coffin through the palace, and Mette-Marit also joined the crowds gathered outside, viewing the flowers, drawings and other tributes to the late king.

“I know that our new queen really wanted to come,” Parliament Speaker Masud Gharahkhani said, per NRK. But she is in a rehabilitation phase and it is a family in mourning. Everything that happened yesterday, with following the bier to the Palace Chapel, is tough.”

King Harald's funeral is scheduled for September 9, but at the current time, it's unclear whether Queen Mette-Marit will be well enough to attend.

Days before the 2026 US Open, tennis star Ben Shelton debuted a snakeskin windbreaker from another "coming soon" collaboration between Zendaya, her stylist Law Roach, and the Swiss athletic label On. The pre-tournament teaser inspired fans to switch from watching red carpets to tennis courts. As someone who grew up in an Eastern European household—and now lives in a city like New York, where the streets aren’t exactly pristine—I am a firm believer in indoor clothes. The second I get home, my outdoor clothing comes off, and I change into the softest, loosest thing I own. Drawstring pants have long been a key part of that rotation: comfortable, unfussy, and, at least in my mind, firmly intended for the couch, not the outside world.

But over the past few years, the fashion world has made a very convincing case for taking them to the streets. As drawstring and pull-on cotton pants have become a bona fide trend, celebrities like Gigi Hadid, Anne Hathaway, and Laura Harrier have laid the groundwork, styling them in intentionally relaxed ways that don’t scream “I just ran out for coffee.” Paired with button-downs, blazers, ballet flats, designer bags, and other pieces I’d normally save for actual trousers or jeans, the humble bottoms suddenly looked surprisingly put-together.

So, I decided it was time to test my own fashion prejudice. Could the pants I associate most with staying in actually become something I’d wear out? This week, I’m finding out.

Drawstring Pants Are Leaving the Couch

Over the past few years, as relaxed silhouettes have displaced rigid tailoring on the runways, pull-on pants have moved beyond their loungewear associations and into everyday wardrobes. No longer reserved solely for lounging, these loose, breathable styles are now getting the dressed-up treatment with new fabrications (see: satin and taffeta), silhouettes (barrel-leg, cargo), and every color imaginable.

On the street style circuit, celebrities have helped push the trend even further, turning drawstring pants into a certifiable It-girl uniform. Kaia Gerber paired blue drawstring trousers with ballet flats and a Balenciaga City bag at the end of 2024, while Jennifer Lawrence wore wide-leg black pull-on pants with a trench and Loewe sneakers a few months later. This summer, Hadid made beige drawstring pants feel airport-ready with suede loafers and a Miu Miu bag, while Sofia Richie Grainge styled a pair with knitwear and slim trainers for a recent trip to Tokyo.

How I Style It

Perhaps no brand is more synonymous with drawstring pants right now than celebrity favorite Leset. The L.A.-based label, whose pants feature elasticized waists only, released its Kyoto Pants years before the trend took over. Since then, everyone from Gerber and Lawrence to Katie Holmes has worn the style.

For a day of work meetings, I styled Gerber’s exact pair. To balance the bright cobalt color and the relaxed barrel-leg silhouette, I leaned into a more corporate uniform on top with a button-front shirt and blazer. The cropped fit of the TWP shirt solved the tuck-it-in-or-leave-it-out dilemma, while the drawcord detail on the Smythe blazer subtly echoed the waist ties. For this look, I traded my soft loafers for even softer (and trendier) Derby-style jazz shoes from the also-Gerber-approved brand Repetto. I finished the workwear look with a purse from another A-lister-endorsed name Cuyana and silver hoop earrings from my go-to affordable jewelry brand Jenny Bird.

For nighttime, I contrasted the utilitarian silhouette of the pant with a form-fitting going-out top. I then doubled down on the dressiness with heeled shoes from Nomasei. A wedge flip-flop or sandal would also be a fun alternative, playing up the Y2K, Rachel Green-esque look of the cargos. I’ve been loving this season’s colorblocking trend, so I added a Prada handbag (a reissue model which further winked to the 2000s) in red to contrast graphically with the cobalt blue. Statement earrings and cocktail rings finished off the outfit that could go from dinner to late-night drinks.

After a day and night of wearing drawstring pants out, I’m officially reconsidering my indoor pants as outerwear. You still won’t catch me wearing my outside clothes at home, though.

Last month, show-goers at Copenhagen Fashion Week hinted that summer's Bermuda shorts trend is transitioning into a fixture of fall attire. Skip ahead to August 31, and Céline Dion (of all style icons) confirmed this. She gave the knee-length shorts the cold-temps treatment, proving if you layer them like a capital-D diva, they'll have major show-stealing potential at Paris Fashion Week in October.

Two weeks before the opening night performance of her residency in Paris, Dion waved to fans outside the Royal Monceau Hotel in a Fall 2026 Tom Ford outfit worthy of the center-stage spotlight.

The Grammy winner tucked a black T-shirt into matching pleated Bermuda shorts. She then slipped knee-high boots—featuring a glossy croc-embossed finish—inside the elongated wide-leg hemlines. August 31 marked the anniversary of Princess Diana's death, and 29 years later, her former royal protection officer, Ken Wharfe, is reflecting on the special relationship she had with her team.

Wharfe, who stepped down as Diana’s bodyguard four years before her 1997 death, shared that it could be tough to forget you weren't "part of the party" because of the late princess’s warm personality.

“She loved telling jokes, and listening to them—in fact, the riskier the joke, the better,” he says. “But that was part of who she was. Diana lived very much in the real world, like it or not. Many people would argue she didn't, but she always had this desire to be normal.”

Because of her warmth, Wharfe admits there “were times when it was quite difficult to remove yourself from what had become a very personal and very private occasion.” However, he says that being so close to Diana meant that he was able to be even better at his job.

The former royal protection officer said that being “drawn in” by Diana “actually worked in your favor because, if you were accepted as part of that environment, you were in the best possible position to provide effective protection.”

He notes that sometimes he sees protection officers "positioned on a street corner, some distance away," and explains that even if there are "good operational reasons for that," he finds that being in the mix with Diana was always the best for her protection.

“If, in Diana's case, she said, ‘Come and eat with us, Ken,’ or, ‘Come and sit in here and join the conversation,’ then that's exactly what I, and my colleagues, would do,” Wharfe adds.

Reflecting on the anniversary of Diana's death, Wharfe says that he feels her lack of royal security "led to the appalling accident in Paris."

The princess gave up her 24-7 police protection in December 1993, a year after her separation from Prince Charles. Fearing that her team members were leaking information about her to the Royal Family, she relied on private security when necessary and only allowed police protection when she was traveling with Prince William and Prince Harry.

"She was then relying on security which, in my view, was unprofessional and lacked the level of planning, coordination and communication that would have provided the best possible protection," Wharfe says of her 1997 accident. "Sadly, it simply wasn't there."

Monday, August 31 marks 29 years since Princess Diana tragically died in Paris, and her younger brother, Charles Spencer, shared that it was his "least favourite day" of the year in a new Instagram post.

The 9th Earl Spencer posted three new snapshots of his home Althorp House, the historic estate where he grew up alongside Princess Diana, and in the photos, its flag flies at half-staff. "31 August. My least favourite day," Spencer wrote.

Diana is buried on an island in the middle of Althorp's Oval Lake that's only accessible by boat, and in 2024, Earl Spencer told Good Morning Britain, "I go pretty much every day."

Prince Harry noted in his memoir, Spare, that there used to be a bridge to the island, but it was eventually "removed, to give my mother privacy, to keep intruders away."

To make his trips to the gravesite a little easier, Earl Spencer told Good Morning Britain that a friend "handmade a canoe" for him as a 60th birthday gift.

Althorp is open to the public for just two months a year, and August 31 marks the final day of its summer season. Although visitors can't access Diana's grave, they can visit a Grecian-style temple dedicated to Diana's memory.

September will mark a major milestone for Earl Spencer. While he's already a prolific author, he's never written about Princess Diana, and on September 22, the earl will release Swan Song: Diana, My Sister.

Following Queen Elizabeth II's death on September 8, 2022, King Charles became the monarch. His coronation officially took place at Westminster Abbey on May 6, 2023. But according to one royal author, "backlash ensued" regarding an allegedly "offensive" change to the event.

In the new book Crown and People: British Coronations and the Shaping of National Identity 973–2023, George William Cullen Gross discusses the proposed change regarding King Charles's coronation.

According to Gross, the lead up to King Charles's coronation contained "one of the more problematic and controversial moments of 2023," which was "a proposed 'Homage of the People.'"

Gross continued, "The idea as an 'innovation' was raised a number of days in advance of the coronation, to update the service by replacing the homage by the peerage, with members of the public 'pledging allegiance' to King Charles III."

The liturgy included the phrasing, "I swear that I will pay true allegiance to your Majesty, and to your heirs and successors according to law."

As Gross explained, "This is a new and significant moment in the tradition of the coronation. Never before in our history have the general public been offered such an opportunity to join with national figures in declaring their allegiance to a new Sovereign."

Unfortunately, the proposed change wasn't particularly well received.

"A backlash to the idea immediately ensued, with discontent from across the political spectrum, with some labeling the idea 'offensive,'" Gross noted.

It was subsequently revealed that the former Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, had suggested the wording, with King Charles largely unaware of the change. Per Gross, Welby was "forced to refer to the whole idea as 'voluntary,' and an 'invitation' not a 'command'...and the magnificence of the actual day overshadowed the drama."

In the new book Crown and People: British Coronations and the Shaping of National Identity 973–2023, George William Cullen Gross discusses the significance of certain aspects of royal coronations.

"In a similar vein to the religiosity of baptism, the ceremony of anointing was hidden from television cameras during the 1953 coronation of Queen Elizabeth II to preserve the mystery surrounding it," Gross explained.

The author continued, "In this instance, four Knights of the Garter held the canopy of gold over and around the monarch to shield the act from view. During the act of Anointing, the monarch disrobes from their crimson robes and takes off any jewelry, giving up all symbols of their status."

Gross also noted that multiple aspects of the coronation date back centuries.

The author shared, "The Archbishop is then handed the Ampulla containing special 'holy' oil or chrism. An eagle-shaped flask in solid gold, it dates back to the remade crown jewels for the coronation of Charles II in 1661."

Additionally, a "Coronation Spoon of 12th century origin" is used, which "anoints the monarch on their head, hands and breast/chest, with the accompanying words (much unchanged since the 17th century)."

It seems clear that, to Queen Elizabeth II, royal tradition was tantamount, and that included attempting to preserve some aspects of the process.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams suggested that Thomas and Charlie van Straubenzee would be "obvious mediators" when it comes to Harry and William. While William has been close to Thomas van Straubenzee for decades, Prince Harry remains friends with Thomas's younger brother, Charlie van Straubenzee.

"The van Straubenzee brothers could pull off the most extraordinary feat if they joined forces to bring William and Harry together," Fitzwilliams told the outlet.

According to Fitzwilliams, "What makes the brothers ideal is that, apart from being close to both of them, Thomas is especially close to William and Charlie to Harry."

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have officially left their Montecito, California home to move to the U.K. with their two children—Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. According to royal sources, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex haven't cut all ties in the U.S., but they're excited about multiple aspects of their U.K. move.

As reported by People, Meghan and Harry "left California" on Tuesday, August 25, and traveled "by private jet to England with their children...and their dogs, Pula and Mia."

One source told the outlet, "They wanted to spend time with the people they're closest to before they left and for the kids to have some special time with friends."

The source continued, "It wasn't a goodbye forever. It was much more, 'We'll be back, but this is what we're doing right now.'"

Basically, leaving Montecito was likely an extremely emotional affair for Meghan and Harry.

The source also shared, "They've been planning this for some time, and they feel it's the right thing for their family, but that doesn't mean leaving was easy."

The decision to move to England was probably quite difficult for the Duchess of Sussex, as she was raised in California.

"Meghan really loves their life in Montecito and their home there," the source told People. "There's excitement about what's ahead too, especially for the kids. They're really happy for them and for everything they'll get to experience."

According to the Daily Mail, Meghan and Harry are particularly excited about building a new home together in England.

"They have an English countryside dream," one royal source told the publication. "This will be the first time that Harry has lived in the U.K. as a private citizen where no one can demand any access to him."

As Meghan and Harry aren't senior working royals, they'll be entitled to privacy and won't be required to take part in official duties.

"Now [Harry] is going to have a chance to enjoy all of the things he loves about the country, but as a private citizen," a source explained. "They will have more freedom now."
