In an interview for Marie Claire's new Women in Sports issue, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce breaks her silence on what led to her dropping out of the 100m semi-final in Paris last year, after previously only expressing her "disappointment" over the decision. The race would have bookended her stellar Olympic career, launched at the 2008 Games.

That day started off on the wrong foot for the Jamaican track and field star, who upon arriving at the Stade Annexe near the Stade de France to clock in her training time, was told that the gate she'd used to enter the previous day was not in use that day.

Fraser-Pryce didn't want to walk the extra 200 meters carrying her heavy bag. So, in order to preserve her energy for the race, she waited while the workers at the gate made calls. She presumed they would eventually let her in, but they didn't. She waited as other athletes passed by; she found the whole incident humiliating.

When it became clear that she wouldn't be able to use that gate, Fraser-Pryce decided to walk to an alternate entrance, but by then her usual training time had been significantly cut down.

Things went from bad to worse from there. In her final two reps on the warm-up track, the athlete described a sensation of her body "shutting down" and experiencing painful cramps in her legs. "It would’ve been one thing if this happened at the beginning of my warm-up," she tells Marie Claire. "I wanted to do it for my country, but then I had to ask 'what’s right for me?'"

At this point, it felt clear to Fraser-Pryce that she couldn't compete. "I was probably having a panic attack," she says. "I felt I could see it in front of me, and it was ripped [out of my hands]."

On the philosophy that led her to make the difficult decision, she says, "I'm a warrior, I'm a fighter. I love rising to the occasion. I only ran one or two races going into that meet. People probably thought it was gonna be a stretch, but it wasn't a stretch to me. I like competing on my own terms. I like to exit on my own terms. That's not how I wanted to do it."

At the time, Fraser-Pryce only cited injury as her reason for withdrawing, and subsequently wrote on Instagram, "It is difficult for me to find the words to describe the depth of my disappointment. The support of my fans, my country and the larger community has rooted me in immense gratitude that has sustained me throughout my career. My faith has always affirmed my trust in my journey."

Today, Fraser-Pryce is preparing to run her last-ever professional race, at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

Queen Camilla made an emotional admission while hosting a reception at Clarence House earlier this week. Camilla's event celebrated the incredible performance of the British Equestrian teams at the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympic Games.

As the royal patron of the British Equestrian Federation, Queen Camilla clearly has a passion for horseback riding. Although The Queen wasn't able to attend the Paris Olympics in person, it sounds as though she was on tenterhooks watching them at home.

"It made us all feel very proud to be British," she told athletes attending the special reception at Clarence House (via the Daily Mail). "I'm sorry I wasn't there but I was watching very keenly every bit of it on the television and it really did bring tears to the eyes." She continued, "Thank you to the whole team for what you do and let's keep British best."

In the caption of an Instagram post sharing photos from the reception, the Royal Family's official account explained, "The Queen, Patron of the British Equestrian Federation, hosted a reception to celebrate the incredible achievements of the British Equestrian teams at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games." The post continued, "Her Majesty met some of the squad and their dedicated support staff—the 'team behind the team'—who all helped make Team GB's victories possible."

At the reception, Queen Camilla was gifted a "very sweet" picture drawn by equestrian Ros Canter's 5-year-old daughter, the Daily Mail reported. Canter revealed that her little girl had always dreamed of being a princess, to which Camilla responded, "That's very sweet. Tell her I will send her a letter."

Also this week, Queen Camilla visited the Great Western Hospital in Swindon, England—which is where she gave birth to daughter Laura Lopes in 1978. During the Jan. 21 outing, Camilla joked that her grandchildren were regular visitors to the hospital, telling staff they'd "treated a lot of my family," per Hello! magazine.

"My daughter will often call me saying, 'Guess where I am?'" Camilla explained. "And I get a picture of a thumb sticking up at an odd angle, or a leg...I know what a nice place it is and what great care you take of people."

Jordan Chiles has given her first TV interview after being stripped of her bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

In her first interview since the incident, Chiles opened up to Today about the loss, and how she's moving forward. "It's been really, really hard just to comprehend everything that's been happening," Chiles told Today. "I've been able to finally now feel comfortable in a way to talk about what has been happening."

During her conversation with Hoda Kotb, which aired on Monday, Nov. 11, Chiles emotionally revealed she'd been experiencing "a difficult time" since the Olympic ruling.

Back in August, Chiles was awarded third place in the women's final floor competition with a score of 13.766. Having initially placed fifth after scoring 13.666, Chiles' coach "filed an inquiry into the calculation of her difficulty score," which was successful, moving Chiles up to third, NBC reported at the time.

However, days later, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled that Chiles' coach had filed their inquiry too late, and reinstated the original scores. Chiles lost her Bronze medal, and placed behind Romanian gymnasts Ana Barbosu and Sabrina Manexa-Voinea.

In September, Chiles' lawyers filed an appeal with the Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland to overturn the decision to remove the Team USA athlete's bronze medal. The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) supports Chiles' decision to appeal.

Discussing her next steps, Chiles told Today, "The support that's been around me that I've been like, 'OK, I can't control anything that's happening on the outside, I can only control what my truth is, and I know what the truth is, and I know that we were right in everything that we were doing.'"

Regardless of the outcome of her latest legal challenge, Chiles is proud of herself for speaking out about the difficulties she's faced. "I'll be able to look back and say, you know what, 'That was just a portion of my story, but it's the truth,'" She explained. "And that's why I'm here today, is to tell my truth."

The press release announcing Chiles' action explained, "This appeal is about much more than the bronze medal. Chiles is pursuing her case to encourage the entire Olympic community to take steps to ensure that future Olympians do not face a similar ordeal. Chiles believes in competing fairly and with integrity and holding these organizations to the standards and rules that were established to ensure fairness."

The 2024 Paris Olympics saw many royal families from around the world cheering on athletes from their respective countries. And while Princess Anne (and her trendy bucket hat) led the charge for the Brits, Prince William and Kate Middleton didn't make an in-person appearance at the most recent Olympics.

On Thursday, Oct. 3, the Prince of Wales told a group of British Olympic and Paralympic swimmers the real reason why he couldn't attend the games during an event at the newly reopened Birtley Community Pool in Tyne and Wear, England.

According to Hello!, athlete Tom Dean asked William if he'd been able to attend the Olympics while chatting with the royal and fellow swimmers Adam Peaty, Maisie Summer-Newton and Louise Fiddes.

"No, I was so keen to come, but I have to say after reading someone's interview about COVID I decided—because my wife was obviously having chemo—that I didn't want to risk bringing COVID home," the Prince of Wales replied.

He added that "Adam very kindly reminded me that that was still a thing!," referring to Peaty coming down with COVID and being forced to isolate after winning a silver medal in Paris.

The Princess of Wales announced on Sept. 9 that she had recently completed her chemotherapy treatment after being diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, so it's understandable that William was hesitant to travel abroad while she had a weakened immune system.

Although they weren't able to travel to Paris, William told the swimmers that his family "watched the whole thing" on TV, adding, "We were glued to it every day."

The Prince and Princess of Wales did release a special video (alongside Snoop Dogg, nonethless) to congratulate the British team after the summer games, with the royals joining a host of famous Brits to send messages to the athletes.

As for the rest of William's Thursday outing, he stressed the importance of swimming as a life skill, announcing a new partnership with The Royal Foundation of the Prince and Princess of Wales and the Birtley Community Pool. The initiative will enable more than 16,000 people to take part in swimming activities every month.

And while the prince and princess were forced to miss out on this summer's games, there's always the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Jordan Chiles is still fighting for her bronze medal.

Just over a month after the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled that Chiles' medal in the women's gymnastics floor final in the Paris Olympics would be stripped, the Team USA athlete and her lawyers have filed an appeal with the Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland to overturn the decision.

A press release for the appeal states that CAS went against Chiles' "right to be heard" when it declined to consider video evidence submitted by USA Gymnastics that they claim ultimately proved Chiles deserved to come in third place in the competition.

The press release also alleges that the President of the CAS panel that ruled against Chiles and in favor of the Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu, Hamid G. Gharavi, "had a serious conflict of interest: Mr. Gharavi has acted as counsel for Romania for almost a decade and was actively representing Romania at the time of the CAS arbitration."

Gharavi had not responded to a request for comment from E! News at time of writing.

When reports first emerged about a potential conflict of interest last month, Gharavi told ABC News in a statement, "I am not allowed to comment on these or any other matters in relation to my role as an arbitrator in this or any other case."

The principal reason for Chiles' appeal is explained in the press release as an attempt to right "an unjust decision." The document reads, "This appeal is about much more than the bronze medal. Chiles is pursuing her case to encourage the entire Olympic community to take steps to ensure that future Olympians do not face a similar ordeal. Chiles believes in competing fairly and with integrity and holding these organizations to the standards and rules that were established to ensure fairness."

The end goal of the appeal is for Chiles' bronze-medal score to be reinstated.

This affair has been a long and complicated journey, starting with Chiles originally placing in fifth place. She was then awarded the bronze medal after an inquiry from her coach resulted in the jury agreeing that Chiles had not deserved a specific point deduction.

However, the Romanian team argued that the coach's inquiry had been filed too late, thereby rendering it void. CAS ruled in their favor, which resulted in Chiles' medal being stripped.

Soon afterwards, USA Gymnastics shared that they had submitted evidence they claimed proved the inquiry had been made in time, but CAS declined to consider the evidence because their rules don't allow for this type of deliberation.

On Aug. 15, Chiles released a statement on Instagram explaining what a "significant blow" the situation had dealt her, and promised she would "make every effort to ensure that justice is done."

The 2024 Olympics may have ended on August 11, but Simone Biles's record-breaking journey is not over yet. While the superstar gymnast was racking up medals in Paris, the team behind her Netflix docuseries Simone Biles Rising was there to capture the experience. The streaming giant has confirmed that new episodes of the series will arrive this fall, giving viewers an inside look at Biles' journey from the 2024 U.S. Gymnastics Trials to her performances in Paris, which earned her three gold medals and one silver medal.

Directed by Katie Walsh, the first two episodes of the sports docuseries premiered on July 17 ahead of this year's Olympics, and focused on Biles' recovery and training following her withdrawal from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The new release is set to conclude the epic comeback story; per Netflix's announcement, the new episodes will give "intimate access" to Biles' run, "all the while sharing personal thoughts and moments of her incredible journey to become the most decorated gymnast in history."

The Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu has officially received the bronze medal that was originally awarded to Jordan Chiles, after a weeks-long saga.

On Aug. 16, Barbosu received the medal and posed for photos in a ceremony in Bucharest, Romania, but she acknowledged that the moment wasn't all positive.

"I can’t help but think about Sabrina [Maneca-Voinea] and Jordan right now," the 18-year-old athlete said (via E! News). "It’s a difficult situation for us, with so many uncertainties and overwhelming emotions. I hope everyone understands that we have not done anything wrong at the Olympics."

It's been a long journey of heartbreak for the American gymnast Chiles, who received the bronze medal for the women's gymnastics floor final at the Paris Olympics.

Though Chiles' score of 13.666 originally placed her fifth in the event, behind Barbosu in third and her fellow Romanian gymnast Maneca-Voinea in fourth, the Team USA coach Cecile Landi filed an inquiry related to Chiles' difficulty score. Landi felt that the gymnast had not deserved a particular point deduction, with the judges ultimately agreeing and bringing her final score up to 13.766. She then received the bronze medal for that event and participated in the medal ceremony with her teammate Simone Biles and the Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade.

However, the Romanian Gymnastics Federation subsequently filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) claiming that Coach Landi's inquiry had not been filed within the requisite one-minute time frame. CAS ended up ruling in favor of Barbosu and Maneca-Voinea, which brought Chiles back down to fifth place. On Aug. 10, it was officially revealed that the American would lose her medal.

USA Gymnastics later submitted "video evidence" to CAS which they said proved Landi had in fact filed her inquiry within the one-minute window, but the organization did not consider the appeal.

Many USA Gym fans felt the decision was unfair to Chiles, and even Flavor Flav got involved—commissioning a bronze clock necklace for the athlete to show his support.

Last week, Chiles spoke out about losing the medal, telling her Instagram followers, "This decision feels unjust and comes as a significant blow, not just to me, but to everyone who has championed my journey."

She added, "I am now confronted with one of the most challenging moments of my career," but also expressed her gratitude to her collaborators and supporters.

Rachael Gunn, AKA Raygun, the Australian breakdancer who went viral following her performance at the Paris Olympics, has responded to all the "hate" she's been receiving.

Taking to Instagram on Thursday, Gunn told her followers, "Hi everyone, Raygun here. I just wanna start by thanking all the people who have supported me. I really appreciate the positivity, and I'm glad I was able to bring some joy into your lives. That's what I hoped. I didn't realize that that would also open the door to so much hate, which has frankly been pretty devastating."

She defended her performance, saying, "Well, I went out there and I had fun. I did take it very seriously. I worked my butt off preparing for the Olympics, and I gave my all, truly. I'm honored to have been a part of the Australian Olympic team and to be part of breaking's Olympic debut. What the other athletes have achieved has just been phenomenal."

She went on to explain she'd be enjoying some "pre-planned down time" in Europe for the next few weeks, and asked media to stop "harassing" her friends, family, and fellow street dancers with questions about her.

Many commenters weren't sympathetic to the case Gunn made for herself.

"Honest criticism is not hate," remarked one person.

"That's your all!?!?!? You could have worked on your strength, technique, abilities, etc like other athletes who spent their entire life training for a shot at the Olympics. Or at least run your routine past someone before taking it to competition," commented another person.

"I do not hate you but I stand by my right to criticise your selection and this performance," wrote someone else. "You have to own up to a bad result."

Still, others defended the breakdancer, with one person writing, "I’m sorry that you’ve been so severely criticized. You lived out a dream on the Olympic stage and did it bravely. You deserve congratulations for following your dream"

Raygun attracted a lot of criticism after she performed in breaking at the Paris Olympics, with many people feeling her skills were not up to the high standards upheld by the competition.

The dancer had previously defended herself during a press conference, when she told reporters (via ESPN), "All of my moves are original. Creativity is really important to me. I go out there, and I show my artistry. Sometimes it speaks to the judges, and sometimes it doesn't. I do my thing, and it represents art. That is what it is about."

Team Australia's Chef de Mission Anna Meares also defended Gunn's participation, telling reporters, "I love Rachael, and I think that what has occurred on social media with trolls and keyboard warriors, and taking those comments and giving them airtime, has been really disappointing."

Princess Kate and Prince William have had a challenging year. In March, Kensington Palace announced that Kate Middleton had been diagnosed with cancer, and would be retreating from the public eye. A month prior, King Charles III's own cancer diagnosis was shared with the general public, leaving Prince William to take the lead as the royal family's figurehead. Now, a new report suggests that Princess Kate and Prince William are "not out of the woods yet."

The Daily Mail's royal editor Rebecca English has penned an exclusive article about Princess Kate and Prince William's year so far. According to English, Kate will continue to undergo her preventative cancer treatment throughout the summer, while spending time with her family in Balmoral. As a result, "her recovery will be ongoing for many months to come once even this is concluded," English explained.

For now, there is no firm plan regarding Kate's return to her official royal duties. "It’s been a rough, rough time, a really difficult year for the entire family," a source told the publication. "And as she herself said, she is not out of the woods yet." While the Princess of Wales is reportedly heading in a "positive" direction, "no one is giving a timescale for her return" to public life, as yet.

English also spoke to a number of sources who discussed how Princess Kate has been managing her health out of the public eye. "I don’t think people realise how much she has gone through behind the scenes and for how long, far longer than anyone actually appreciates," one source told the Daily Mail.

Kate Middleton's strength has often been mentioned in articles regarding her cancer diagnosis. One of English's sources concurred, saying, "She’s an incredibly strong woman, but she really has been through the wars." They continued, "Her treatment and recovery is still a priority and will be ongoing for some time to come."

The Prince and Princess of Wales have made some select appearances, such as sharing a video congratulating Team GB's performance at the 2024 Olympics. However, it's unlikely the pair will ramp up their schedules anytime soon. "Her continuing treatment is the key issue for her personally, and for them all as a family," another source told the publication.

Jordan Chiles will not have her bronze medal reinstated, it seems.

On Monday, USA Gymnastics released a statement informing their followers that the appeal they made to the Court of Arbitration for Sport for Chiles to be handed back the medal that was stripped from her was denied.

"USA Gymnastics was notified by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Monday that their rules do not allow for an arbitral award to be reconsidered even when conclusive new evidence is presented," the statement read. "We are deeply disappointed by the notification and will continue to pursue every possible avenue and appeal process, including to the Swiss Federal Tribunal, to ensure the just scoring, placement, and medal award for Jordan."

Commenters showed up by the truckload in support of Chiles, with one person writing, "Absolutely ridiculous that she is suffering the consequences of a judging error, and now that is has been evidently proven the initial inquiry of late contesting was not true, she still has to suffer??? Keep backing your girl up USAGYM!"

Someone else wrote, "They’re making it up as they go along and making a mockery of gymnastics. I hope Jordan Chiles is being smothered with love and support. Thank you for fighting for her"

Sadly, according to the organization's latest statement, this evidence has not been taken into consideration by CAS at time of writing.

On August 11, Prince William appeared alongside his wife, Princess Kate, in a new Instagram video celebrating the 2024 Paris Olympics. While fans were excited to see Kate Middleton wearing a new eternity ring in the video, many onlookers started thirsting over Prince William's new beard. If you've ever wondered why Prince William doesn't sport a beard on a regular basis, it seems Prince Harry has the answer.

In his memoir Spare, Prince Harry discussed his decision to seek permission from Queen Elizabeth to be allowed to keep his beard. "After all the stress of asking Granny for permission to marry Meg[han Markle], I thought I'd never have the courage to ask her for anything else," he wrote (via the Express). "And yet I now dared to make another ask—Granny, please, may I, for my wedding, keep my beard?"

According to Harry, his request was actually pretty serious, and he seemingly expected his grandmother to turn him down. "Not a small ask either," Harry wrote. "A beard was thought by some to be a clear violation of protocol and long-standing norms, especially since I was getting married in my Army uniform. Beards were forbidden in the British Army."

While Harry should've been delighted that the Queen agreed to his request, his brother allegedly made the situation more difficult. According to Harry, William was "livid" that his brother had made a request about his beard to the Queen. Harry wrote, "You put her in an uncomfortable position, Harold! She had no choice but to say yes." And that's not all. The strange argument over Harry's beard reportedly continued for the next week as William "wouldn't let it go."

Per the Duke of Sussex's memoir, William allegedly ordered him to shave his beard off ahead of his wedding to Meghan Markle. As for why, William reportedly told his brother, "Because I wasn't allowed to keep my beard."

The Prince of Wales has rarely been spotted with a beard, making his appearance in the new Olympics video all the more shocking. According to Harry, William was bitter that he hadn't been given the same privilege as his little brother. "After he'd come back from an assignment with Special Forces, Willy was sporting a full beard, and someone told him to be a good boy, run along and shave it," Harry explained. "He hated the idea of me enjoying a perk he'd been denied."

As the heir to the throne, Prince William has always had a very strict career path. As a result, he has to abide by certain rules, and doesn't have as many freedoms as his little brother, Prince Harry. As well as thirsting over Prince William's new beard, fans quickly noticed Princess Kate was wearing a new eternity ring in the video.

Snoop Dogg's appearance in Kate and William's Olympics video is not the first time the rapper has had a connection to the royal family, either. Yesterday's outfit calls on a more feminine version of a look from earlier this week, when Union wore a slightly oversized blue-and-white striped button-up with a pair of white, straight leg jeans and a cherry red handbag.

Attending the women's Artistic Gymnastics Floor final this past Monday, Union repurposed that button-up, tying it over a navy exercise dress with red and white piping along the straps. The other day, she took the opportunity to dress down in bright red sweatpants, a navy Ralph Lauren Team USA cropped rugby shirt, and aviator shades. Is there a gold medal for dressing in the stands? Simone Biles is prepared to defend all of her teammates, even if it means calling out other athletes. And when it comes to the members of the United States women's gymnastics Olympic team, Biles is ready to "stand up for them," and lend her voice whenever they can't speak up.

In an interview with People, Biles, who is often referred to as the GOAT, addressed her recent beef with former teammate MyKayla Skinner. Back in June, Skinner shared a since-deleted YouTube video in which she criticized Team USA's women's gymnastics team. "Besides Simone [Biles], I feel like the talent and the depth just isn’t what it used to be," she said in the video (via HuffPost). "I mean, obviously, a lot of girls don’t work as hard. The girls just don’t have the work ethic."

After Team USA won gold in the women's gymnastics group competition, Biles appeared to clap back at Skinner's derogatory comments. Sharing a photo of the team on Instagram, Biles wrote, "lack of talent, lazy, olympic champions ❤️🥇🇺🇸." The multiple-Olympic medal holder subsequently revealed she'd been blocked by Skinner.

Speaking to People, 27-year-old Biles opened up about her decision to speak out to defend her teammates following Skinner's criticism. "It's important because you have to teach them to use their voices," the gymnast said, revealing how protective she feels over her team. "And if not, you're a voice for the voiceless, which is okay."

Elaborating on why she spoke out so publicly, Biles said, "I just felt like it was right in that moment to stand up for them, because they're so young and they haven't fully stood in their power yet." Biles leads the women's gymnastics team, which includes 20-year-old Lee, 23-year-old Chiles, 24-year-old Carey, and 16-year-old Rivera, via USA Today. Importantly, Biles knows her decision to clap back "meant a lot" to her younger teammates.

Biles finished the 2024 Paris Olympics with one silver and three gold medals. Understandably, the accomplished athlete was proud of her success, particularly after leaving the 2020 Tokyo Olympics early. While speaking to People, Biles revealed she was "so much more relieved, so much more at a better spot, mentally and physically, just happy with overall what I've been able to accomplish and what I've done."

Meanwhile, Skinner has asked Biles to call out cyberbullies in a new Instagram post.

"Watching people cheer on the bullying—which has led to threats of physical harm to me, my husband and our daughter—is disgusting," she explained. "So please, at this point, I'm just asking for it to just stop for the sake of my family because enough is enough."

She also apologized for her previous comments, saying she took "100 percent responsibility for poorly articulating the point I was trying to make."

Biles and Chiles took home the silver and bronze medals in the women's gymnastics floor final, respectively, while Brazil's Rebeca Andrade won the gold. The three women made history, accepting their prizes as the very first all-Black gymnastics podium at the Olympic Games.

Making history was not lost on the trio, who spoke to the press about honoring the significance of their wins. "We can show the Black Power," Andrade said, via AP. "I love myself, my skin color." She continued, "The idea is it serves as an incentive. Sometimes it may be more difficult for you because of you skin color. But you can do it, and we proved it’s possible."

Biles, who won one silver and three gold medals at the Paris Olympics, discussed her decision to bow down to Andrade at the podium with Chiles. "First, it was an all-Black podium, so that was super exciting for us," Biles told the press. "But then Jordan was like, 'Should we bow to her?' And I was like, 'Absolutely.'" Despite losing out on the gold medal during women's floor final, Biles was in fantastic spirits after completing her last event. "I've accomplished way more than my wildest dreams, not just at this Olympics, but in this sport," Biles said at a press conference on August 5, via People. "So I can’t be mad at my performances. A couple of years ago I didn’t think I’d be back here at an Olympic game. So competing and then walking away with four medals, I’m not mad about it. Adele may be British, but she's shown a clear allegiance to Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

On August 3, Adele was performing at the Messe München venue in Munich, when she paused the show for a very important reason. Expressing her excitement about the women's 100m final, Adele told the crowd (via Us Weekly), "I want Sha’Carri Richardson to win, fingers crossed but whoever wins, that’s amazing."

Audience members at Adele's concert watched the race on the venue's big screen, in what must have been a surprising and exhilarating moment for the crowd. Richardson came second in the race, securing the silver medal for Team USA. Meanwhile, Julien Alfred of St. Lucia came first, winning gold.

Adele also took the opportunity to express her admiration for Team USA Olympian Simone Biles, who won one silver and three gold medals in Paris. The "Hello" singer also mentioned the gymnast's Netflix documentary Simone Biles Rising, saying, "I thought it was absolutely amazing." She continued, "And it really is proof that sometimes if you pay attention and look after your mental health it does make you stronger and not weaker." Adele also said of Biles, "Very, very proud of her."

Adele fans are likely hoping for a follow-up to the Oscar-winner's 2021 album 30. However, the "Someone Like You" has no intention of rushing out new music just yet. In an interview with German broadcaster ZDF, Adele shared her intention to step back from music following her latest round of performances.

"I don’t have any plans for new music at all," she told ZDF (via The Hollywood Reporter). "I want a big break after all this and I think I want to do other creative things just for a little while." She continued, "You know, I don’t even sing at home at all. How strange is that?" Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade took gold in the competition, while Team USA's very own Jordan Chiles secured the bronze medal. Biles reportedly lost out on the top prize due to "some messy landings," which led to her scoring 14.133, which was 0.033 less than Andrade's score, the BBC reported.

Despite missing out on a fourth gold medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Biles leaves the competition having demonstrated her spectacular skill. In fact, Biles' wins at the Paris Olympics helped her achieve a jaw-dropping accolade; it was revealed Biles now holds more Olympic medals than any other American gymnast, which is quite the feat.

While the majority of Biles' experience at the Paris Olympics appears to have been positive, she noted some major issues with the Olympic village. In a "Get Ready With me" TikTok video shared on August 2, Biles revealed she'd avoided spending time in the Olympic village as her anxiety had been heightened. "It's because the first day we got here, and I got to the cafeteria and a lot of people were asking me for photos, like non-stop," she said in the video. "And whenever I sat down to eat, my anxiety was so bad I was shaking." However, the gymnast also noted she'd had therapy that morning, and was tempering her nerves ahead of the competition.

There's one question Simone Biles hates being asked after her Olympic achievements, and TBH, it makes a whole lot of sense.

She added, "let us soak up the moment we’ve worked our whole lives for"

While journalists and fans of Biles' are understandably curious about when we might next see the gymnast compete, it's true that asking that just after she—or any other Olympic medalist—has achieved something spectacular definitely has a way of almost diminishing the value of the achievement.

Further driving her point home, after someone commented on her social media post, "What is your next step after winning Gold medal??" Biles answered, "babysitting the medal." Teehee.

Incidentally, Biles' achievements at the 2024 Paris Olympics are truly remarkable. The gymnast has won a gold medal in the women's gymnastics individual vault final, one for women's artistic individual all-around, and one with Team USA for the women's artistic team all-around—alongside Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, and Hezly Rivera.

These are Biles' third Olympic Games, after she already participated in the Rio Games in 2016, and in Tokyo in 2021.

Though she doesn't love the question, the GOAT did oblige a journalist who wanted to know "what's next" for her—i.e. whether she's considering competing in Los Angeles in 2028—during a press conference.

"Never say never," she said. "The next Olympics is at home, so you just never know. But I am getting really old."

Biles, 27, is very obviously not old period, but it's true that she's "old" for gymnastics, with the average age of retirement for female Olympic gymnasts sitting somewhere around 22.

It's not the first time the question of her age—and that of her teammates—has come up in Paris. Last week, Biles shared that her team's nickname is the "golden girls," which she explained was because they're the "oldest Olympic team."

For context, Chiles is 23, Lee is 21, Carey is 24, and Rivera is the youngest Team USA member at just 16 years old.

Simone Biles doesn't mind her haters—if anything, they fuel her desire to be the best gymnast she can be.

The Olympic champion proved this while speaking about her goat-shaped diamond necklace on Thursday, after she won yet another gold medal in Paris—this time at the all-around gymnastics final. The necklace is a tongue-in-cheek reference to her nickname, the GOAT, which of course means the greatest of all time.

"It's a little ode, I mean a lot of people love it, they always call me the GOAT, so I thought it would be really special if I got one made," Biles told the BBC, as reported by People.

"And the haters hate it so I love that even more and it's just a special part of me that I have here, as well as in the village I have like a stuffed goat, just to get a reminder: 'You can go out there, you can do it, you've done it before, so let's go.'"

After her Thursday victory, Biles held up her symbolic pendant for the cameras to see, and of course layered it with another pretty important accessory: her newest gold medal.

It's not even the first time this week that Biles has shown how unbothered she is by the haters. In fact, after Team USA won the artistic gymnastics women's team final on Tuesday, the gymnast captioned an Instagram photo celebrating the victory, "lack of talent, lazy, olympic champions."

Fans immediately interpreted this caption as being a clap back to former teammate MyKayla Skinner's comments about USA gymnasts these days not having a "work ethic." After that, Biles also tweeted that she'd "been blocked"—with most people assuming this was by Skinner, though she didn't spell it out.

The goat charm, coated in 546 diamonds, isn't just a complement to her Swarovski crystal-studded Team USA leotard. It's a cheeky reference to her record-breaking career. As of the women's All-Around final, she's also the US gymnast with the most medals—ever.

Biles elaborated on her necklace's significance in a press conference following her latest win. "My GOAT necklace is just kind of an ode because the people love it and then some people hate it, so it’s like the best of both worlds," she said, according to reports by Cosmopolitan. "And I was like, ‘Okay, if it goes well, we’ll wear the GOAT necklace. I know people will go crazy over it.’ But at the end of the day, it is crazy that I am in the conversation of greatest of all athletes, because I just still think I’m Simone Biles from Spring, Texas, that just loves to flip."

Indeed, people went crazy. One fan called it "peak 2024" on X. Another said it was "the greatest thing ever."

This isn't the first time Simone Biles has worked GOAT (and goat) imagery into her competition outfits. In 2021, she began competing in a goat leotard with rhinestone embellishments. Biles told Marie Claire the customization was a way to hit back at her haters.

"I didn't feel like it was necessarily fair how they could keep saying whatever they wanted, but then if I said something, it wasn't fair. [The haters] were joking like, 'I swear, if she put a goat on her leo, blah, blah, blah,'" Biles said. "That would make them so angry. And then I was like, 'Oh, that's actually a good idea. Let's make the haters hate it, and the fans love it.' And so that's exactly what we did and why we did it."

Biles's latest GOAT reference was a custom commission from the Los Angeles-based jeweler Jamie Heller. The designer shared on Instagram three days before the All-Around competition that the piece "reflects her dedication, perseverance, and the spirit that has inspired generations." She also noted that Biles commissioned a second necklace, in the shape of the five Olympic rings.

Biles's victory was hard-earned. She's called the 2024 Olympics her "redemption tour," after withdrawing from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics to protect her mental health. And while she's already made history in the first few days of the Games, she could go home with even more medals. Over the next week, Biles is set to compete in the individual beam, floor, and vault competitions. She'll almost definitely wear her goat necklace again for each one.

Eleven-time Olympic medalist and sprinter Allyson Felix is at the Games in Paris this summer, but this time to deliver a different kind of win: the launch of the first-ever Olympic Village nursery.

The mother of two partnered with Pampers to create a comfortable and convenient place for athletes to spend time with their children in between competitions. The nursery includes toys, books, and a breastfeeding space, and is part of the International Olympic Committee’s efforts to make sure that parents feel supported as they compete.

Felix, who returned to competition after her first child Camryn was born in 2018, wished that she had a space like this when she was going for gold. “I took her everywhere that first season, and it was really hard in ways that I didn't expect,” Felix tells Marie Claire.

The idea for the nursery came to Felix while she was serving as an athlete representative on the IOC Athletes’ Commission, and she questioned: “How can we better support our athletes with children?” The CEO and founder of Saysh, a company that crafts sneakers shaped to the unique contours of a woman's foot, couldn’t believe that something like this didn’t already exist.

“It’s not rocket science, it’s 2024 and we’re just doing this? We need more voices who are mothers who are women. I was elated we were able to get this in place in time,” she says.

It certainly is about time—especially as we’re seeing an increase in performance ages of female Olympic medalists. Which means that while motherhood may have knocked women out of sports in another era, these days they continue to compete—and win. But it also means that the system needs to change to meet their needs as parents.

This isn’t the first time that Felix has spoken up on behalf of women and mothers. In 2019, she published a highly praised op-ed for The New York Times about her experience with former sponsor Nike, which ultimately triggered the brand to create a new maternity policy for all sponsored athletes, guaranteeing their pay and bonuses for 18 months around pregnancy. Beyond that, she’s spoken in front of Congress about the racial disparities in maternal health, and her company Saysh offers a first-of-its-kind return policy for women who may experience a change in their shoe size while pregnant.

When it comes to taking care of parents during the biggest moment in sports, Felix sees the Paris nursery as a jumping off point. As a member of the LA28 Organizing Committee Athletes’ Commission, Felix envisions full childcare and extending the nursery to more ages. This year’s installment is meant to provide the comforts of home, with cozy furniture, including couches and soft play areas, and focuses mostly on babies (naturally, it’s loaded with Pampers diapers). But the reality is that athletes have children of all ages. “This progress gives me confidence that going into Los Angeles in 2028, we can grow it even more,” she says.

The U.S. women's gymnastics team won gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Tuesday, sending Team USA into celebration mode. Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, Sunisa Lee, and Hezly Rivera were triumphant in the women's artistic team all-around, scoring a total of 171.296 points, The New York Times reported. As the final member of the group to perform, it was Biles' score of 14.666 that secured victory for the team.

Team USA achieved an almost six point lead on Italy, who came in second to win silver. Brazil, meanwhile, took home the bronze medal. The U.S. women's team's victory was particularly sweet after they placed second in the 2020 Olympics, which took place in Tokyo. Biles withdrew ahead of the 2020 final citing medical issues. As a result, her return to form in Paris was exciting to behold.

Biles' gold win also cemented her status as the American gymnast with the most Olympic medals, beating Shannon Miller, with whom she previously tied, USA Today reported. It's also worth noting that 27-year-old Biles has set the record for being the oldest American woman to secure a gold medal at the Olympics, per CNN.

Following the team's success, the gymnasts will move on to the individual finals later this week. Biles will compete for more gold medals in the all-around competition, and in the finals for vault, beam, and floor. Her teammate Lee will also compete in all-around, as well as in beam and bars. While Chiles will take part in the floor final, Carey is set to compete in the vault competition.

A whole host of celebrities attended the the women's artistic team all-around, including Serena Williams and Spike Lee, CNN reported.

Lady Gaga, who performed at the Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony, celebrated Biles' skills earlier in the competition. Posting a video clip on Instagram, Lady Gaga wrote, "She nailed it what an honor to be so close!"

Lady Gaga made quite the entrance for her performance at the 2024 Olympics Opening Ceremony in Paris. The Oscar-winning star performed on the bank of the River Seine, where she sang French circus song "Mon Truc en Plume." The show-stopping performance was inspired by French Cabaret and saw Lady Gaga surrounded by a plethora of flamingo pink feathers created by Dior.

However, Lady Gaga's performance wasn't without its problems as one of her backing dancers accidentally fell off of the custom-built stage, via the Daily Mail. The moment was captured on video, with the official NBC Sports live broadcast showing a dancer slipping and falling backwards. Luckily, they didn't appear to be injured and could be seen standing up afterwards and continuing with the dance routine.

It seems incredibly likely that the rain contributed to Lady Gaga's dancer falling off of the stage. Audience members, including Princess Charlene and Prince Albert II of Monaco, could be seen braving the inclement weather as they watched the extravagant performances. In spite of the rain, Lady Gaga and her team completed an unforgettable performance, replete with a head-to-toe Dior outfit.

Céline Dion also gave a wonderful performance at the Opening Ceremony, where she sang Édith Piaf’s "Hymne à l’Amour" below the Eiffel Tower. For her appearance, she wore a sparkling Dior Haute Couture Gown, which took more than 1,000 hours to make by the Atelier.

Following the performance, Lady Gaga took to X to celebrate her iconic appearance at the Olympics. Detailing how she prepared for the performance, she wrote, "I studied French choreography that put a modern twist on a French classic." She continued, "I rehearsed tirelessly to study a joyful French dance, brushing up on some old skills—I bet you didn’t know I used to dance at a 60’s French party on the lower east side when I was first starting out! I hope you love this performance as much as I do."

Further explaining the collaboration, Lady Gaga wrote, "I am also humbled to be asked by the Olympics organizing committee to sing such a special French song—a song to honor the French people and their tremendous history of art, music, and theatre." She continued, "This song was sung by Zizi Jeanmaire, born in Paris a French ballerina, she famously sang 'Mon Truc en Plumes' in 1961. The title means 'My Thing with Feathers.'"

The 2024 Olympics Opening Ceremony was a remarkable event, which included an appearance by Lady Gaga surrounded by plumes of flamingo pink feathers. But perhaps the most emotional moment of the night occurred when Céline Dion took to the stage to perform Édith Piaf’s "Hymne à l’Amour." Dion's Dior gown sparkled under the lights as she made her comeback performance at the Olympics Opening Ceremony. Made from white silk georgette and cascading with glittering sequins and beads, the singer appeared to be covered in crystals as she took the stage. The floor length gown featured a long sweeping train, making Dion's return to the stage nothing short of regal. A pair of diamond drop earrings completed the look, while she wore her hair in a slick bun.

Dion's partnership with Dior extends beyond her Opening Ceremony performance. Earlier this week, the iconic singer was photographed wearing an oversized logomania Dior tracksuit, which featured the house’s signature monogram and racing stripes. While the tracksuit pants retail for $3,000, the pullover anorak top costs $4,000.

Lady Gaga also wore Dior for her performance at the Olympics Opening Ceremony. Her dramatic outfit consisted of a custom black bustier, with black satin panties, and accessories such as a headdress and gloves all created by Dior. The 2024 Olympics Opening Ceremony in Paris has attracted a plethora of celebrities, including royal family members from all over the globe. Princess Charlene of Monaco was in attendance alongside her husband, Prince Albert II of Monaco, and the pair posed for photos in front of the Eiffel Tower.

Prior to attending the glamorous Opening Ceremony, which included performances by Lady Gaga and Celine Dion, the Monagasque royals joined a reception for Heads of State held at Elysse Palace. There, Charlene and Albert posed with French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron, via Hello! magazine.

Princess Charlene looked particularly stylish wearing a custom jumpsuit by Louis Vuitton, which she accessorized with a pair of silver pumps from Gianvito Rossi. To complete the stunning outfit, the princess carried a Louis Vuitton Capucines handbag in silver alligator leather. Similar styles retail for as much as €31,000 (approximately $33,666), although the mini version of the handbag starts at $6,600.

Princess Charlene and Prince Albert were accompanied by their children, twins Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella. Unfortunately, the Opening Ceremony was hit by inclement weather, and the entire crowd found themselves watching the concert in the rain.

Despite the downpour, Princess Charlene was in extremely good spirits, and was photographed laughing in the audience. Even though her chic Louis Vuitton jumpsuit got a little wet, Charlene's enviable style was on full display throughout the event. Of course, Princess Charlene is known for having one of the sexiest royal wardrobes in the world, so her appearance at the 2024 Olympics was totally on form.

After facing health issues stemming from a serious ENT (ears, nose and throat) infection, Princess Charlene took an extended break from royal life in 2021. In an interview with Nice Matin on May 25, 2022, Charlene addressed the terrible rumors that spread when she stepped back from her royal role for a period of time.

"You mean the divorce rumors or my new home in Switzerland," she told the publication. "I find it unfortunate that certain media peddle such rumors about my life, my relationship." She continued, "Like everyone else, we are human beings and like all human beings we have emotions, weaknesses, only our family is exposed to the media and the slightest weakness is relayed."

Kaia Gerber just took a break from wearing cute outfits around New York to wear them in Paris instead.

For an evening at the lavish Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony celebration, Kaia Gerber assembled yet another black and navy outfit, only solidifying her belief that the two colors can work in tandem. This time, she also coordinated with mom Cindy Crawford.

Model and avid reader Kaia wore a pair of almost-black wide-leg jeans, a black crop top, and a coordinating cropped jacket. Her signature black ballet flats also made the transatlantic flight. Her only other accessory was a pair of slender black sunglasses.

As for her mom, supermodel Cindy Crawford, a black pair of cargo pants, a slouchy white tank top, and a cropped sporty bomber-style jacket made the Opening Ceremony cut. And in a true mother-daughter-twin moment, Crawford also wore a pair of black sunglasses.

In an Instagram story posted on July 26, Crawford tagged her daughter and geo-tagged their location. The duo is attending this year's Olympiad with Omega Watches—Gerber and her mom are Global Brand Ambassadors for the iconic watch brand.

While many summer ensembles feature white dresses and sandals, Gerber has been instead opting for '90s-inspired darker hues. She recently wore a black dress from Dôen with the same flats and sunglasses while in New York, followed up by 'a 90s-inspired ensemble featuring an asymmetrical slip skirt and a black tank. She's even welcomed in a new Nike It sneaker from the brand's buzzy collaboration with Bode when she wore them ahead of the 2024 Met Gala back in May.

Trust that if another It item emerges from the many Olympic fashion collabs hitting shelves this week, Kaia Gerber will be the one to wear it. And odds are, Cindy Crawford will match her, too.

Céline Dion is set to perform tonight at the 2024 Olympics Opening Ceremony in Paris. But before Dion hits the high note on "It's All Coming Back to Me Now" (fingers crossed), the singer had a retro trend to serve up. Last night, at the "Prelude to the Olympics" party, Dion opted for a sporty, head-to-toe Dior outfit.

Specifically, she wore an über-oversized, logomania Dior tracksuit. The V-neck anorak and matching, billowy joggers were printed with the house’s signature monogram on taffeta jacquard in navy and cream, complete with "Christian Dior"-emblazoned racing stripes. She finished the look with a pair of cool white sneakers and black, squared cat-eye sunglasses.

Céline Dion doesn't do "subtle," and she's no stranger to larger-than-life garments, sporty styles, and Logomania patterns. Back in 2020, two years before the singer's Stiff-Person Syndrome diagnosis that caused her to become somewhat reclusive, much of Dion's street style incorporated neon shades, technical fabrics, huge coats, and yes, designer logos. She worked with stylist Law Roach at the time.

Yesterday's return to form was a departure from the tailored Parisian wardrobe she flaunted earlier this week while spending time in the French capital. We saw the star in a different, more formal Dior number: an elegant black pleated midi dress with a subtle collar and short puff sleeves. She was also photographed in a loose-fitting black blazer, layered overtop a crisp white button-up with an exaggerated lapel.

Tonight, Dion will sing alongside Lady Gaga, marking her long-awaited return to the stage. The chart-topper had taken time away from performing starting in 2022, after being diagnosed with Stiff-Person Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that causes severe and prolonged muscle spasms. In Dion's documentary, I Am: Céline Dion, she said, "I'm going to go back onstage, even if I have to crawl." And she's staying true to her word. The singer is also slated to launch a new Las Vegas residency at Resorts World late this year or early next.

From the start of the 2024 Paris Olympics at the opening ceremony on Friday, July 26, to the final competitions on Sunday, August 11, the sport of it all is the primary focus. Every athlete in attendance has spent their lives preparing to compete, after all. But heading into this year's Olympic Games, there’s near-equal excitement around the 2024 nail trends and beauty regimens earning potential gold medalists' stamps of approval.

While their skin and makeup routines alone are attention-worthy—and earning sponsorships from the likes of Rihanna's Fenty Beauty, Glossier, and more—the personal spin these women in sports give their manicures is especially meaningful. Celebrity nail artist Gina Edwards describes the Olympics as a world stage where athletes bring their style and their skills. “Athletes are not only strong, but also beautiful," Edwards says, "and people watch their beauty routines”—all the way down to their fingertips.

There's a precedent for detailed Olympics nail art filled with symbolism. Sunisa Lee made headlines during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics when she had the famed five rings emblazoned across her otherwise nude nail polish. Following the viral manicure, Lee has been questioned ad nauseam about nail art, making it clear time and again that it’s a way for her to showcase her individuality on the mat. Fellow gymnast Jordan Childs has also made headlines for her extra-long acrylics, recently telling the Associated Press that the length doesn’t just help her technique but also doubles as the “one little touch” unique to her.

Of course, there are rules to follow. Gymnasts must wear neutral colors, and volleyball players must have their nails cut short. Still, athletes have found a way to make manicures a form of self-expression, a show of patriotism, a nod to their country, or all of the above.

During the first few days of the games, Richardson had her trademark miles-long acrylics decked out in red, white, and blue—with an American flag to boot. Look closely, and you'll notice that her ring finger hints at the French manicure trend, stacking a thin red line under a blue half-moon.

Brianna Throssell (Swimming)

While Australia's flag may be red, white, and blue, the country's national colors are green and gold. That's precisely why Olympic swimmer Brianna Throssell opted for a multi-colored French manicure honoring her nation's official palette ahead of her competition.

Laura Collett (Equestrian)

Olympic equestrian Laura Collett turned to Fern Nails in the U.K. before heading off to Paris, and her detail-oriented manicure is easily one of the best to appear at the Olympics so far. In addition to the game's logo and the British flag, Collett also had nails designed with the Eiffel Tower, "Go GB," and, most notably, llamas wearing sunglasses.

Sara Balzer (Fencing)

Fencer Sara Balzer's motto was a simple yet chic manicure ahead of her Olympic bout. She did opt for a matchy-matchy moment however, with red, white, and blue polish coordinating with the French flag reference on her helmet.

Ilona Maher (Rugby)

US Ruby player (and social media star) Ilona Maher share her USA-themed manicure—where else?—on TikTok. "I just got my nails done and I have immediately started acting different," she jokingly says in the video. Give the contact-heavy nature of her sport, her nails were kept short.

Sunisa Lee (Gymnastics)

With a manicure seen worldwide in 2020, Lee is one with hands to watch. Her iconic Olympic logo-emblazoned manicure partly led to her new partnership with KISS. “I am obsessed with nails. Being a gymnast requires me to move in a way that is flexible, weightless, and strong. I need the same when it comes to my manicure,” she said in a press release shared with Marie Claire. “Salon X-tend allows me to do that effortlessly while also showcasing my individuality, wherever my meets take me.”

Before hitting the mat for the qualifying round at the 2024 Olympics, it appears she popped on a fresh pair of press-ons.

Simone Biles (Gymnastics)

With the Olympics based in Paris, it's only natural that Biles opted for an elevated French manicure. In a TikTok, the gymnast gave her 1.5 million followers a glimpse into the beauty prep that goes into getting ready for the big event. Naturally, she paid a visit to the nail salon, where she swapped out her red French manicure for a more classic colorway. She did add her own flair to the set by popping a gemstone onto the base of each nail.

Jordan Chiles (Gymnastics)

The 2024 Paris Olympics isn’t the first time Chiles will be repping the US—nor is it her first time repping long acrylic nails on the mat. She also attended the 2020 Toyko Olympics, taking home a silver medal with a manicure to match.

In a recent interview with the Associated Press, Chiles said, “People always ask me how do I do gymnastics with such long nails? To tell you the truth, they actually help me with my technique.”

Her manicure of the moment is very appropriately French (which just so happens to be one of the biggest summer 2024 nail trends), adorned with white and blue tips that nod to Team USA.

Yusra Mardini is an inspiration. At only 17 years old, she fled her war-torn home country of Syria with her sister, both swimmers training at the highest level. As the small boat she was on with 18 other refugees broke down in the middle of the Mediterranean, Mardini and her sister jumped in the water and pulled the boat to safety. After reaching European shores and finding her final refuge in Germany, she went back to training and ended up participating in the Rio and Tokyo Olympics. Her story was even turned into a Netflix movie, "The Swimmers" and Mardini and her sister were among Time Magazine’s list of The 100 Most Influential People in 2023. Here, she shares her experience with Marie Claire.

Marie Claire: What was the final straw that made you decide to flee your country?

Yusra Mardini: To be honest with you, there was not like one specific event. It just wasn’t safe to live in Syria. We lost our home, two years into the war, and started renting apartments, which became very expensive, and we had to move every three months. My father left to be a swim coach in Jordan where the pay would be better. The Olympic pool I was training in was also targeted all the time because it was seen as a military base. One time I had to hide under my desk in the school. It just wasn’t safe. The bombs would fall randomly. Like, you’d be walking and then a bomb would just fall and you would just stand to the side, wait for everything to quiet down, and keep on walking like nothing even happened. It became so normal, which is horrible. One day, my sister and I were just talking in our shared bedroom and we just decided, it’s time to leave. We found someone our parents could trust, my dad’s cousin, and they let us go.

MC: What is the thing that you remember most from your journey as a refugee?

YM: Probably the fact that we were looked at as criminals. Unfortunately a lot of people were scared of us; didn’t believe that the money we were holding was real—as if being a refugee means you have nothing. I was also always scared when we had to put our trust in smugglers because of all the stories about trafficking. That was terrifying, as was being separated from my sister for part of the journey. As long as I was with her, I felt safe. But in the end, we trusted, and we wanted to help, and it turned out all right. You know, there’s always good and bad in the world, no matter where you are, no matter who you are. I met so many incredible people. For example, Hungary was one of the worst points for us as refugees, but even there some people were trying to help us. When I got to Greece, I remember trying to buy something at a restaurant and they didn’t want to serve us. And there was a young girl who just came and gave me shoes, and gave a little boy a hoodie, and took us to her home to drink water. There’s always good, wherever you go.

MC: And now you’re trying to do good in the world. Tell us about your foundation.

YM: It was launched June 20, last year’s World Refugee Day, and it focuses on helping refugees worldwide through education and sports. Sports and education helped me personally get where I am today, and now I just want to give back. I feel like I have the power to offer the same opportunity to young refugees around the world.

I recently just came back from Kenya, where I saw so many incredible programs that are teaching some refugees in the camp how to become directors and producers and football and basketball players. It was just incredible to see that even in these really, really hard circumstances, they are still trying to pursue their dreams through education and sports.

So my goal is to give as many refugees around the world the possibility to pursue their dreams. We now have programs in Kenya, France, and Greece.

MC: Speaking of sports, tell us about competing in the Olympics with the Refugee team?

YM: The team came together when the International Olympic Committee and the UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, came together and decided that there should be a team because there were many athletes reaching out that had no team, professional athletes who, because of war and displacement, didn’t have a passport. I was one of the 10 members of this first team for the Rio Olympics. I was 18 at the time, and I’m still in touch with a lot of the athletes. In the beginning, it was hard for me. I didn’t want to be called a refugee.

Of course, I understood that I was one, but I didn’t want to be known worldwide for it. It took me a while to be okay with that. But in the end, I understood that a lot of people would be looking up to us, a lot refugees would be watching from refugee camps. We realized that our responsibility was way bigger than any of the other athletes.

When I entered the stadium for the opening ceremony, I felt: It’s not just your dream anymore. It’s about changing something. It’s about proving that, yes, you can go through so many difficult things in life, you don’t necessarily get the life you had dreamed of, but you can still do great things. For Tokyo, I had qualified to be in the Syrian team, but I decided to stay with the refugee team.

MC: And what message do you want to share now?

YM: For young people, I just want them to understand that even if we imagine that our life will go a certain way, it doesn’t always turn out like that. We have to be flexible, and we have to step back, not give up, and try again tomorrow, or try something different. For the rest of the world, never forget the humanity of refugees. And for sports fans, support the refugee team and follow my commentary on Eurosport this summer.

2024 was always going to be a sporty year for fashion with the Paris Olympics on the calendar. As if in anticipation of the upcoming Games, street style has embraced a rising athletic shorts trend—where running shorts are styled up with going-out tops and blazers—as well as the chic-ification of overalls (which are rooted in skateboarding culture and appear in Team USA's skateboarding uniforms).

Now that Games are finally here, the references to courts, tracks, fields, and Olympic-sized pools are coming in quickly. More often than not, these Olympics fashion collabs come with campaigns populated by—who else?—various members of Team USA. Official outfitter for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, Ralph Lauren, is letting fans match star athletes in warm-up jackets and flag-embroidered sweaters. Meanwhile, J.Crew teamed up with USA Swimming to shop out bikinis and one-pieces for churning out laps in your nearest pool.

The collection includes a mix of high-performance swimsuits and throwback apparel, from a navy barn jacket to a nautical striped sweater. Layer it all at once to look like a medley relay winner circa 1995—like many of J.Crew's recent collections, the best pieces have slight call-backs to the brand's archives.

Lacoste

The 2024 Olympics aren't the first-ever to be held in Paris: The City of Lights last hosted the Games one hundred years ago. In a fun nod to the past and the present, Lacoste designed a "Paris 1924" collection that's available online now. This is the Olympics tie-in for the fan whose style leans vintage, but in a way that conveys strolling through the Marais or collecting vintage brooches. (That is, it's more Team Eurostar than Team USA.) Each piece has "Jeux Olympiques" written in a font echoing the more baroque entrances to the Paris Metro, and the palette mostly sticks to a dusty blue and rich cream. Unisex styles in the collection include artful graphic T-shirts and hoodies, striped tank tops, and a duffle bag perfectly proportioned for an overnight trip. Lounge in a T-shirt with signage from the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics or bundle up in an aviator jacket embroidered with logos from several major Olympiads—or both.

Nike x Jacquemus

It sneaker factory Nike and French designer Jacquemus have been collaborating on sporty-chic collections since 2022. The duo's Olympics rendition is their most podium-worthy yet. There are white tracksuits lined in red, extra oversize T-shirts, and tricked-out Air Max sneakers. And for those who consider "Just do it" to be their personal motto, the pair designed a novelty shoulder bag in the shape of Nike's iconic swoosh.

Oakley

ICYMI, surfing is returning to the 2024 Olympics after its grand debut at the 2020 Tokyo Games. But don't expect to see anyone shredding "waves" on the Seine: the competition is actually taking place in Teahupo'o, Tahiti. Still, you can show your support for the faraway athletes—and get ready for an active summer—with Oakley's Team USA collaboration. Ralph Lauren

Ralph Lauren has outfitted Team USA for the Olympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies for the past eight Olympic Games. As I reported last month, the brand is back for a ninth time with uniforms featuring even more Americana references, plus some nods to this summer's biggest trends sprinkled in.

Athletes will enter the games in stately navy blazers and jeans; they'll exit in white racing jackets Rosalía might approve. In between, they'll be outfitted in all sorts of patriotically-coded polos, rugby shirts, and matching sets designed by the brand. All Ralph Lauren's pieces created for the athletes are available to shop whether you're competing on the world stage or watching from home. Personally, I'm eyeing the lightweight cotton riff on RL's iconic flag sweater for some casual layering over the Fourth of July.

Skims

Returning for its third partnership with Team USA since 2020, Skims is focused on the gear athletes (and their fans) will wear after the competitions. Rest and relaxation energy abounds throughout the soft tank tops, lounge pants, and innerwear lineup—all coated in Olympic logos and red, white, and blue colorways.

With Kim Kardashian's rolodex, Skims has the access to cast just about anyone remotely buzzy in its campaigns. (Recently, the roster has included Nicola Coughlan for Bridgerton to Sabrina Carpenter at the peak of "Espresso.") Naturally, the visuals for this collection are also stacked with medalists and soon-to-be champions. Among the athletes wearing their "Fits Everybody" best in the corresponding campaign are rising track and field star Gabby Thomas and gymnast Suni Lee.

Skims x Team USA is also one of the few collaborations listed here that anyone can wear. In addition to the women's lineup, the brand also designed adaptive, men's, and kids pieces. Sizes run up to 4x.

Simone Biles is beyond ready to bring her best to the Paris Olympics.

After Biles was officially selected to compete for Team U.S.A. Gymnastics at this year's Games, the athlete expressed how excited she and her teammates are for the event.

"This is definitely our redemption tour," Biles told reporters on June 30 (via People). "I feel like we all have more to give."

The gymnast's selection for Paris comes in the wake of the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, when she had to withdraw mid-competition to protect her mental health.

"I feel like we have a lot of weight on our shoulders to go out there and prove that we're better athletes," Biles said on Sunday (via Le Monde). "We're more mature, we're smarter, we're more consistent—but don't quote me on that, because not tonight!" (She was presumably referring to the incredibly deserved monster celebration she and her teammates would no doubt be having afterwards.)

Biles absolutely shined during the Olympic Trials this past week, with one of her routines going so viral that even Taylor Swift had to weigh in (also because Biles had set it to the singer's track "...Ready for It?").

The legendary gymnast is making history with her participation in Paris, which makes her only the fourth female gymnast ever to make Team U.S.A. for three Olympic Games, according to People.

Biles will compete alongside her teammates from the Tokyo Games Suni Lee, Jade Carey, and Jordan Chiles, as well as first-time Olympian Hezly Rivera, who is just 16 years old.

The Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony will take place on July 26, and the Closing Ceremony on Aug. 11.

Heading to Ralph Lauren's New York City headquarters to preview Team USA's Opening and Closing Ceremony uniforms for the 2024 Olympics, I expected to see a room full of red, white, and blue. It's tradition: Ralph Lauren has designed Team USA's Opening and Closing Ceremony outfits for the past eight Olympic Games, beginning with Beijing in 2008. Each time, the uniforms had plenty of stars, stripes, and Americana insignias to go around. The palette is a prerequisite for around 600 U.S. athletes to represent their country at the biggest international competition in sports, after all.

What I didn't expect in the mahogany-paneled room full of Team USA athletes and their new uniforms was a crossover with the heart of fashion's biggest trends. Returning for a ninth time, Ralph Lauren is still dressing athletes for the Olympics in their star-spangled best—but they're emphasizing the crossover between the world of sport and the world of fashion in fresh ways. And, it's all available for anyone to shop before the Olympic torch is even lit.

To open the Olympics, athletes including gymnastics phenomenon Simone Biles and swimming legend Katie Ledecky will wear refreshes of Ralph Lauren classics: a navy blazer with white and red trim, a striped Oxford button-down, and tapered jeans. As far as first impressions on the Olympic stage go, it's a neat summary of the classic codes defining American fashion (and Ralph Lauren's take on it), all that are being reinvented in a prep revival at brands both at home and abroad.

Things get more experimental with the Closing Ceremony uniforms. Ralph Lauren nodded to the motorsport frenzy ruling fashion and sport with white racing jackets fit for the pit of a Formula 1 Grand Prix. (Never mind that motorsport isn't Olympics-verified—yet.) Athletes (and by that point in the festivities, medalists) will pair these with white jeans and polo shirts made from a knitting technology that reduces fabric waste. I could as easily imagine these jackets in a Hailey Bieber or Emily Ratajkowski paparazzi shot as I could at the Olympics—they're a reflection of the sporty-chic outerwear that's all over street style.

"This summer, Paris is the backdrop where fashion and sport will collide on the world’s stage with a global audience and that is an incredibly exciting proposition,” David Lauren, Chief Branding and Innovation Officer, Ralph Lauren Corporation, said in a statement. "For nearly 60 years, Ralph Lauren has been a pioneer at the intersection of style and sport—the vibrancy, passion, and self-expression in sport has been a central touch point of inspiration for our brand since the very beginning of the iconic Polo brand in 1967."

In addition to the Opening and Closing Ceremony uniforms, Ralph Lauren also brought "villagewear"—a.k.a. pieces for athletes to wear in their downtime—to its ninth Olympic collaboration. Here, the crossovers between trending style-meets-sport pieces are even more obvious. There are pleated tennis skorts and dresses for both actual tennis players and Challengers obsessives; chore jackets and satin bombers that are street style's light layers du jour; and lace-up rugby jerseys that wouldn't look out of place in Chloë Sevigny's closet. Prices range from $69.50 for a jersey tee to $398 for field jackets.

There's also a sign the Olympic designer is paying close attention to the viral chatter around its heritage pieces. Daniela Moroz, who will sail for Team USA, directed my attention at the preview to an item I thought I recognized among the uniforms on display at Ralph Lauren HQ: the American flag sweater "everyone knows" (in Moroz's words), updated with Olympic rings stitched below the flag.

For some athletes, bringing fashion into conversation with sport is about more than making a great first impression at the Opening Ceremony. Competing in a male-dominated field like sailing made Moroz hold herself back, style-wise. But, "over the years I've been more and more comfortable with expressing my feminine side a bit more. Fashion has to do with some of that," she told me, "and it's cool to now get to partner with such an iconic American brand and represent that on the world stage."

Moroz can't wait to wear her Ralph Lauren uniform in Paris, but she says the pieces will have a life in her closet before, during, and after the Games. (In fact, she was already wearing the Closing Ceremony uniform when we met.) "It's a cool combination of special to the Olympics, but they're totally timeless," she says of the designs. "Like you're going to be able to wear this forever and pass on to your kids. It feels really special."

Simone Biles has a lifelong support system in her sister Adria Biles. After Simone Biles exited the team finals at the Tokyo 2020/2021 Olympics, then subsequently the individual all-around competition, Adria rushed to defend her. "y’all are all about mental health until it no longer benefits you.. i can’t imagine being that inconsiderate WHEWWWW," she tweeted at the time, in what was a reference to the insensitive comments the star gymnast was getting for choosing to sit out the competition for her well-being.

The viral tweet is far from the first time Adria, who's two years younger than her famous sibling, has shown steadfast care: She has a history of being fiercely loyal to Simone, and the two have always had an exceptionally close relationship. As she's stepped into the spotlight over the past few years (including TV appearances), Adria has never stopped showing love to her big sis. Now that the 2024 Paris Olympics are in full swing and Biles is back competing on Team U.S.A., we're taking a look at what we know about Adria.

Who is Adria Biles?

Adria, 25, is one of four of Simone's biological siblings: The two also have an older brother, Ron Jr., and an older sister Ashley Biles Thomas.

Adria, according to a post she made on X (formerly Twitter), works in dental hygiene.

The younger sister of the famed gymnast is also a former gymnast herself. She started at 9-years-old and ended up competing at the junior elite level, even training with Simone and competing until 2016.

The two also spent time together in the foster system before being adopted by their maternal grandparents, Ron and Nellie, when Simone was 6 and Adria was 4. (Both Simone and Adria refer to Ron and Nellie as their parents.)

Adria has opened up about her and Simone's childhood in the past. When speaking to ESPN in a 2016 interview, she shared, "My sister has always been. When we were little kids, we'd stand on a railing on the second floor of our house, then jump off onto the couch down below on the first floor. She'd go first, and I'd follow. We were both gymnasts, so we were always trying things around the house. Nothing scared her."

In a June 2021 Facebook Watch documentary, she described her sister as being "bossy" growing up and shared that the two fought "all the time." Even still, she thinks of her as her "best friend."

Adria was a professional dancer for Houston's baseball team.

Adria also has experience in the professional dance world. In 2022, she joined the Shooting Stars, the dance team for the Houston Astros. (Think the Dallas Cowboy Cheerlanders but baseball instead of football.) She appears to have only remained on the dance team for one season, during which she served as “an ambassador of the Houston Astros organization through in-game promotions and entertainment, community outreach and charity events,” per the Shooting Stars’ website.

Adria competed on the reality TV show 'Claim to Fame.'

In 2022, Adria joined the cast of the first season of Claim to Fame, a competition reality show where relatives of celebrities attempt to conceal their identities to win $100,000. Playing under her middle name, Louise, Adria threw off her costars' guesses by telling them that her sister is a well-known former athlete whose biggest accolade was at the collegiate level. Though some contestants knew her true identity from day one, she lasted on the ABC series until episode 8.

"I was expecting to be the first one out!" she told USA Today after her elimination. "I did not think I was going to make it so far but I’m really proud of myself ... I basically thought I would walk through the door and walk right back out. Then I started winning and it was like, 'Okay, game on.'"

When asked what it's like being Simone's sister, Adria added, "I think when people ask this question they don’t realize she is completely normal. She doesn’t do flips around the house. We still fight sometimes and I steal her clothes. We are like best friends."

Adria was a bridesmaid in Simone's wedding.

Simone's tight-knit family played a big role in the gymnast's 2023 destination wedding to NFL player Jonathan Owens. Adria was a bridesmaid for the big event, and she documented several parts of the wedding lead-up and festivities on Instagram, including the bachelorette weekend, the bridal shower, and the big day itself. In one clip, she unboxed her wedding gift for Simone, her pressed bouquet, saying, "[Simone] deserves the entire world and I want to make it super, super special for her."

Adria is a huge cheerleader for her sister.

It's immediately obvious how Adria feels about her sis as soon as you see her X. Since 2019, she's had the post, "my sister is amazing. that’s it. that’s the tweet," pinned on her profile. She's also amplified and supported her sister often, including after vile comments surfaced after Simone's disclosures about sexual abuse, and the anxiety Simone said she felt afterward.

With every Olympics, she's there for Simone on the sidelines. She opened up to ESPN about cheering her on at the 2016 Olympics. "Everyone expected Simone to win in Rio. She told me once that she did feel the pressure, and that it was more pressure than she'd ever felt before," she told the outlet. "She said the expectations were hard—and she didn't want to disappoint anyone. But she also told me that she knew she was ready."

She also noted that they were frequently mistaken for each other at the sporting event since they look similar (despite Adria being several inches taller).

In the Facebook documentary, Simone spoke about the restrictions against spectators at the Tokyo Olympics and how it would be "weird" not to have her supportive family there: "They've never missed a competition."

For this year's sporting event, the sisters even appeared together in a Visa and U.S. Bank advertisement.

In her characteristically supportive way, Adria came quickly to her sister's defense in the aftermath of Simone's prioritizing her health and wellbeing at the Tokyo Olympics—and after Simone was unfairly criticized for her decision.

Adria's brother Ron also tweeted in support, saying, "She really needs them at this time, and is having a hard time. You’re still GOAT Simone and no one can ever take that away from you!! You’re an amazing woman, talented gymnast, and I know you can bounce from this." So Simone's family has her back 100 percent.
