Since March, Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep have held down the fashion fort for Emily Blunt on The Devil Wears Prada 2 press tour. But on April 20, Blunt finally caught up with her co-stars at the New York City premiere, dressed in a Schiaparelli couture gown and Mikimoto jewelry worthy of an eight-page Runway magazine spread.

Hats may never truly go “out,” but their presence in fashion definitely comes in waves—and I say that as someone who is not naturally a hat person. It takes real street style evidence to convince me to step out of my comfort zone.

This season in Copenhagen, the evidence was everywhere. Headwear felt like a genuine styling staple again, especially in the form of pillbox hats. The city was fully committed: classic pillboxes, updated hybrids somewhere between a beret and a pillbox, and so much fur I lost count. Crocheted and beaded caps also showed up, tapping into that distinctly Scandi balance of cozy and cool.

Thankfully, I came prepared with my favorite cheetah-print pillbox, and I was reminded how much a hat can do. It’s the fastest way to make an outfit feel finished, even if the rest of your look is simple. Naturally, I left with a growing wishlist.

Ultimately, Copenhagen’s best accessory trends weren’t about chasing something new; They were about noticing how much impact the smallest pieces can have. A glove, a belt, or a hat won’t just tie things together—it’s often the detail that makes the outfit.

The Pleated

This Issey Miyake Pleats Please Madame T is my closet’s most versatile item. While I’m wearing the gray version, it’s currently available in a delicious burgundy shade below.

It’s one of my favorite pieces to travel with, thanks to its signature non-wrinkling pleat. Here, I styled it on my way out for the evening, over a black silk trench with The Row suede heels, and my hair swept back in a tortoiseshell acetate hair comb.

The Wool

As this shawl’s designer, Emily Dawn Long, puts it, this is the catch-all garment, the perfect shawl to always have within arm’s reach. It adds a touch of warmth to any moment and is always an essential travel scarf, bringing comfort wherever you are. I wore it over a cream monochromatic look with Jamie Haller Kitty Point in Ponyhair Zebra.

The Chiffon

Here’s another staple in my day-to-day, fastened with a brooch over a long navy wool coat. I like to wear it this way so it can hang securely on my shoulder without falling, and can easily be gathered up and draped over my shoulder or hair as needed. This one is also perfect for summer, worn as a dress or a skirt.

On January 26, mere hours after Jonathan Anderson made his Haute Couture Week debut, Rihanna traded her front-row outfit for floral statement earrings straight from Dior's latest line.

Satin, champagne-colored stilettos instantly elevated her denim the Rihanna way.

Alongside flowers-turned-earrings, Anderson loaned her Look 36's faux fur stole, minus the asymmetrical black skirt he originally paired it with. Instead of styling it as an off-the-shoulder top (like the model), Rihanna draped its narrow, sash-like strands around her elbows.

It’s unclear if the Couture Spring 2026 brooch made the cut, but either way, fur shawls are classic Rihanna-core right now. This month alone, she's worn three similar styles, including a vintage find from John Galliano Fall 2002 on Jan. 20. I had been craving a fun, textural faux flower brooch ever since I saw this stunning Dorothée L'a Fait one from the meticulously curated collection of my friend Melissa Ventosa Martin’s retail project, Old Stone Trade. Then, Matthieu Blazy accessorized his debut at Chanel with spikey, feathery chrysanthemums instead of compact and tidy camelias, and I knew I had to do something about it.

Alas, my budget fell more into the Etsy range—and I was thrilled to discover that NYC institution and famed silk flower maker M&S Schmalberg offered a selection of its beauties on the retail platform. Deciding on a color was trickier than I thought: Black felt too somber, white too bridal, red too holiday-specific. I wanted one that could get a lot of play (well, as much as a fluffy faux flower could get without veering into clown territory). I opted for an unusual soft butter yellow to add a little sunny contrast against tonal winter layers, plus to carry me into spring’s pastels.

I made the correct choice: This fluffy flower brought a bright spot of spring optimism to the all-black or gloomy grey outfits I try to avoid in this drawn-out season, but are inevitable fallbacks when cold-weather bundling. Turns out a dose of whimsy is just what my winterwear needed. Here’s how I did it.

This was the low-hanging fruit of my faux flower styling and possibly the easiest one to get away with. I wore it to a doctor’s appointment on a warmer winter day, and felt proud to be so intentional with accessorizing an otherwise very regular outfit. A go-to tweed jacket over a denim tuxedo and layering turtleneck was a great base for this little bloom, and the beret and boots gave a ‘90s-meets-Annie-Hall feel to the whole thing, which I didn’t hate.

A polished antidote to bag charm fever, I strongly endorse pinning a silk flower to the chain strap of your bag. Using a patent hobo from Chanel, the pin felt like an of-the-moment nod to the brand’s Spring 2026 collection, where chrysanthemum-like petals took over earrings, ball skirts, and tweed jacket lapels. This elegant pop of pastel to an otherwise bulky all-black winter look felt breezy, effortless, and dare I say, French?

A Leather Glove in a Fun Color

To the color adverse, hear me out: color can be fun in doses, especially for winter accessories. I love the way a buttery cognac, burgundy, or olive green glove looks with a mostly neutral wardrobe.

An Interesting Belt

"The coat is the outfit" is my daily winter mantra. With that said, a belt is the easiest yet most exciting way to add interest to the coat you always reach for. Again, as someone who wears mostly black, I opt for belts that add texture or hardware to an otherwise flat outerwear forward look. A Brooch

For a solo outing on Thursday, Princess Kate rewore a houndstooth dress from one of her favorite designers, pairing the chic outfit with a brand new bag.

On November 27, Kate Middleton attended the Anna Freud Centre in London, in support of the Anna Freud charity, of which she's the royal patron. For the occasion, Princess Kate rewore an Emilia Wickstead "Miles" Houndstooth Dress, which was altered for her to incorporate long sleeves.

The Princess of Wales first wore the sleek dress in December 2022 when she visited the Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University in Boston. For her visit to the Anna Freud Centre, Kate paired the fitted dress with a pair of Hugo Boss Staple P90-L Anthracite Embossed Leather Pumps, which she first wore in 2016.

The royal also added to her repertoire with DeMellier's The Small Hudson Handbag in Mocha Suede. The new bag retails for $525 and features a top handle, along with a gold-plated lock, which accentuates its small silhouette.

During her visit to the Anna Freud Centre, Princess Kate helped to launch a new initiative focused on ensuring children receive the support they need in early childhood.

Palm Beach has always been about looking the part—and its inhabitants are well aware. During my stay, I opted in on a walking tour of the renowned Worth Avenue, led by local impeccably dressed icon Rick Rose. As we weaved between historic landmarks and luxury boutiques, he shared that much of the architecture was intentionally designed to look varied, architect Addison Mizner insisting that intentional imperfections would give the street an older ambiance and mystique. It would be more chic that way.

Whether your interest is piqued by studying vintage Lilly Pulitzer prints or the lavish looks on Palm Royale, there’s no shortage of fashion inspiration in Florida’s most stylish city. So, for my own trip, I channeled my inner snowbird. Ahead, what I consider to be the must-have pieces in any tropical vacation wardrobe— plus, some shoppable options for your own potential Worth Avenue debut.

Tunics, Caftans, and Dresses Galore

There’s nothing more classic Palm Beach than a beautiful patterned dress, be it a flowing caftan, an embellished tunic, or a sundress in a print that’s guaranteed to turn heads. The silhouettes are always modest and timeless, but when it comes to color and pattern, the more audacious, the better.

I knew this Lilly Pulitzer caftan in El Morocco (one of the newly re-released vintage prints) would serve me well on my trip as an all-day ensemble. For everything from tea at The Brazilian Court’s Cafe Boulud to dinner at Sant Ambroeus, a great dress is a safe bet.

Straw and Rattan Details

If you can add a straw hat or a rattan clutch to an outfit, best believe a Palm Beacher will. These natural materials ground the bolder prints and bright hues that make up so much of their wardrobes, creating perfect sartorial harmony. My own go-to was this black wicker clutch (pictured throughout) for evenings out—like a fantastic dinner at Harry’s—for which natural straw didn’t feel elevated enough. And as a melasma gal, I need many sunhat options for daytime.

Matching Sets

Palm Beach style is all about looking chic and put-together, even when you’re drifting off to tan or popping into Le Bilboquet Market for provisions. For any occasion, a matching set is effortless and appropriate. And the best part? You can always break up the pieces and style them separately to improve your cost-per-wear.

Splurging on a set from LaDoubleJ, Alemais, or Zimmermann can be an investment that pays off in spades—but on the low, I often find amazing ones at H&M, like this black patterned pajama-style blouse and pant set I wore right off the plane to dinner at RH Rooftop.

Party Pants

I’d argue you can never be too bold in Palm Beach, but if a patterned matching set feels overwhelming, keep your top half super simple and your bottoms bright. Funky party pants with a plain top and some good accessories—more on those next—are as good a going-out ensemble as it gets.

Amped-Up Accessories

While I nailed my snowbird wardrobe (is this Palm Beach-printed dress not proof?), I found myself severely lacking in accessories as I surveyed the stylish women surrounding me in Palm Beach. More is more is more, it seems—especially when it comes to chunky earrings (save your lobes and go clip-on!), pendant necklaces, bangle bracelets, and statement sunglasses. Trust, I’ll be packing a separate carry-on for finishing touches on my next trip—or bringing an empty one to fill up on Worth Avenue.

Hair Wraps and Headscarves

I donned this Lilly headwrap to match one of my dresses, and while the combo intimidated me at first, it ended up being one of my most-complimented looks of the trip. A silky scarf is a must in Palm Beach to channel retro beauty vibes, as illustrated throughout the new season of Palm Royale, whether tied up as a turban à la Norma Dellacorte or wrapped kerchief-style around the hair like Maxine Dellacorte-Simmons.

I also always bring a vintage Hermès scarf on trips like these to remedy bad hair days. (Pre-loved retailers like Fashionphile always have the prettiest prints available at a discount.) Mine made it so that I could transition effortlessly from the pool to a visit to the Flagler Museum without having to wash and style my hair. How’s that for a chic time-saver?

What holiday dressing used to mean to me was breaking out one to three fancy plaid, sequined, or metallic items for their singular annual outing, then shoving them into the back of the closet once I was done with them. Then rinse and repeat the following year.

These festive pieces served their purpose, for sure, but from January to November, I couldn’t help but just feel annoyed at these jolly items, which sat mostly untouched in my closet among my day-to-day wear. But I simply couldn’t really make them work for any other moment.

I’ve since graduated away from designating clothing for only certain times a year in favor of shopping more intentionally and using the full potential of my styling brain to rework or “shop” my closet. I've been able to lower my consumption overall by having a toolkit of some playful elements to bring that holiday jazz to otherwise everyday pieces. One of those hacks is a lace tight.

Cheap, cheerful and non-committal, a tight (much like the socks that I’ve written about before) is an easy way to add some pizazz (and light warmth!) to a look that has legs exposed. I pulled together some festive outfits that really showcase the power of tights and that can carry me through various types of events during a buzzy and busy holiday season.

Lace Tights with… Hot Pants

If you’ve kept your eyes on the runways for the past few seasons, you’re no stranger to the fact that hot pants have hit their stride not only with trendiness but also social acceptability. I’ve had these vintage jacquard Alaïa shorts in my closet for several years (an amazing Thredup snag) and have only dared to wear them in peak summertime, like on vacation or hosting a barbecue at home. Adding a super graphic lace floral tight from Calzedonia, playful mirrored Wales Bonner top, plaid blazer, distressed leather Coach bag and Miu Miu silver sandals, I felt they were ready for their winter debut.

This is seemingly a lot of elements for one look, but using a lace tight as a starting point is a fun way to build out a tapestry of texture. "More is more" actually works here. I see myself wearing this to a more off-beat holiday party with an artsy crowd who appreciates eccentricity.

Lace Tights with… a Sweet Little Dress

This delicate, white crochet-effect lace pair of tights from Stems immediately made me want to build out a mostly monochromatic white look. This is my friend’s perfect Alaïa dress I’ve been holding onto for her as she’s moved around a bunch; I paired it with my coveted pair of Tabitha Simmons white, low-heel Mary Janes, found on Poshmark. I think the vibe could go a little nurse-y with opaque white tights, but the lace made me feel more retro-cool, like a 60’s London vibe. I added a pop of holiday color with a red Sézane sweater as a little cape, red Chanel bag and lip. This look feels great for a daytime occasion like a matinee show of A Christmas Carol or a holiday brunch out with family.

Lace Tights with… a Knee-Length Skirt

I used a pair of burgundy lace tights from Calzedonia as my “pop” of color in an otherwise all black look with a longer skirt. I dared not go much longer with the hemline, since I was trying to make the tights a focal point. The burgundy color had kind of a Victorian mood about them, so I leaned into that with Samantha Parkington, the prissy American Girl doll, in mind. (My style references know no bounds!). I paired them with the perfect crepe flouncy skirt (an epic Valentino sample sale find), a reworked vintage tux shirt from A Shirt Story, a black velvet blazer, Valentino ballet boots, and a super old Dior bag from high school. I can see myself wearing this to a cozy and festive dinner date with my husband at an old-school restaurant we save for this time of year.

Lace Tights with…Denim Shorts

Okay, this one was a little bit of a stretch, but hear me out—I was thinking of Kate Moss's kind of bougie bohemian treatment. For instance, the gorgeous black Swedish Stockings tights with the denim shorts (with a hem, it looks cleaner than cut-offs) is a little nod to late '00s indie sleaze. There was something that felt a little Coachella-meets-Glastonbury-meets-tabloid-culture going on with the Uggs and Chanel tweed jacket. I added a touch of glorious Diotima crochet to make it even more bohemian, plus a simple envelope clutch.

In the end, I actually felt super comfy and fun with this one. It came together a lot less fussy than I thought it would. I would reserve this for silly holiday drinks that turn into karaoke with the girls or at a messy (complimentary) holiday house party.

Channeling Mayhem's goth queen persona, Gaga wore Balenciaga's Minimal Maxi Dress, which is constructed from a silk snake jacquard and originally retailed for $3,350—as identified by La Maison Gaga.

The singer held up her long dress to reveal her incredible footwear—a pair of black patent Mary Jane platforms, from a collaboration between Matières Fécales and Christian Louboutin.

The monotony of winter outerwear can really do a number on the sartorial spirit during the coldest months of the year. I don’t want to credit it for my seasonal affective disorder, but I also won’t count it out. Instead, I’m switching it up this year. It’s hard to have many coats on rotation if you have limited storage, so hats are an easy and space-saving way to add a little more “oomph” to my winter styling.

Beanies have always been a zero-effort standby, and they also can look that way. I think it’s more than time to give them a break and step out of my comfort zone while still staying warm. With that in mind, here are a few winter hats I’ve tested out to keep in my cold-weather wardrobe cycle.

The Knit Bonnet

One of the more avant-garde shapes of my roundup, the knit bonnet is what I call the “balaclava lite”. An over-the-head hood with my face cut out is very warm, but feels too extreme for me in day-to-day wear (unless it's about 10 degrees or below)—a bonnet, however, is kind of a sweeter, easier-to-digest version. It definitely straddles the line of gnomecore (much like my venture into Birkenstock clogs), but it’s cozy and playful nonetheless.

I love this cheerful striped wool version from Damson Madder that I know will serve me well on super cold, grey days when my warmest coat (my long black Coach shearling) needs an optimistic boost.

The Leather Beret

I recently dug this one out from my personal collection—I received as a gift ages ago, and decided it was time to try to make it work.

Berets, though iconic, can just look annoying. I think the trick is wearing them a little more nonchalantly and a little less earnestly. The leather aspect of this one helps. I paired mine with a long leather Burberry trench I’ve had forever and some other feminine details, like a lace collar and pink sweater. However, I still felt a little too cutesy—I hate to say but, but almost a little too like Emily in Paris, which is an immediate buzzkill for me. (Even though I love the show!) I'll be experimenting, but I think a beret would seem even cooler with sportier jackets, like a puffer or windbreaker. Maybe something a little more casual, like a barn jacket or even a hoodie and sweats on a warmer day could work, too.

The (Faux) Fur Cloche

I recently complimented a girl on a warmer day this fall rock one of these with a lightweight leather jacket, and she looked cool and very '90s. (A tamer version of Pam Anderson’s pink one came to mind.) It was a risk that I knew needed some reinforcement, so I made it known to her and her date that I thought it looked great—so much so that I had to try it for myself!

The Apparis one I’m wearing here is technically a bucket, but the bushiness of the fur is so extreme, it reads more like a cloche shape when it’s on. I’ll be the first to say it’s definitely a little kooky and maybe too close to my hair color than I would have liked. But I enjoyed how '70s it looked with a retro texture, like a monochromatic corduroy puffer from Patagonia and my big everyday glasses. But if your personal style veers on the bold side, I say give it a go. On a sustainability note, if you’re looking for a non-poly version, brushed baby alpaca wool also has a similar effect.

The Shearling Bucket

A more paired-down version of the faux fur hat I tried is this faux shearling bucket from Ugg, which is a little less bulky and fits more like a traditional bucket hat. This one feels like a very easy grab-and-go option, which is ideal in my beanie replacement journey. I loved it with a striped shirt, knit vest, and funky Sacai jacket in the photo above, and I truly think it looks cute with just about everything. I would say maybe avoid pairing with other sherpa or furry coats, and use it only as an accent for texture against a wool coat, leather jacket, or puffer. Another sustainability note: Merino wool can also do a great job imitating real shearling and its poly dupe, if you have a personal conflict with either of those.
