If you thought Lawrence only adored Adidas's sneaker selection, think again. The label's locker room-worthy slides have remained in her regular rotation for almost a decade. (This year, they're her signature post-Pilates class shoes.)

As recently as June 25, the Adilette Slides flip-flopped into Lawrence's NYC gym, alongside a four-figure The Row jacket, ALO leggings, and her Hermès Lindy Bag. Seyfried wasted no time giving her soles a break from 4.5" heels. Word of a collaboration between Simone Rocha and Adidas only started spreading a few hours ago, but it's already taking a victory lap around fashion insiders' text threads and Instagram feeds.

On Feb. 22, Simone Rocha debuted a 60-look Fall 2026 collection at London Fashion Week that fused footballer grit with whimsical, girlish flourishes, like ruffles, bows, and cascading pearls. There were slim sneakers laced up with red and white ribbons instead of standard-issue laces; track jackets zipped with dangling pearl closures; tiny shorts Paul Mescal could grab for a jog with a ruffled hem.

From afar, the looks registered as Rocha's twist on the industry's broader fascination with elite sports and a rising "sportif" trend. Zoom in, though, and a Simone Rocha x Adidas Originals logo stamped on the fronts or embroidered into the sides indicated more was at play: In fact, the show served as an official collaboration announcement, set to launch this fall.

"The partnership allows unique interpretations of Rocha’s archetypical garments—cross-pollination of looks, hybrid pieces," Adidas said in a statement to Marie Claire. Translated into specific pieces, that means apparel, accessories, jewelry, and—of course!—Adidas sneakers. Representatives for both brands did not reply to inquiries regarding when, exactly, the collaboration would hit shelves.

In an interview with British Vogue, Rocha revealed she's been in discussions with Adidas for several years now. Few guests in the front row would have called her label—better known for its its Marie Antoinette-inspired ribbons and funky, yet wearable, proportions—"sporty" before this Fashion Month. However, the designer said the heart behind her brand makes her a "natural" collaborator for a titan in sportswear: "Sports are so emotional and I’m a very emotional designer," she explained.

While the first peeks at the collaboration feature recognizable Adidas styles, such as track pants and ballet sneakers—Rocha made sure to bring her signature touch to the collection, too. "I wanted the pieces themselves to feel very authentically my handwriting," she told British Vogue.

That came through the unabashedly feminine details seen on the runway, like an Adidas Tokyo-adjacent sneaker with rows and rows of crystals. It also translated to the styling of the collection, which made it clear this isn't locker room-variety fare. (Think: a white and red varsity T-shirt with a black popcorn dress boasting an exaggerated hoop skirt, and a zip-up track jacket paired to a half-unlaced corset skirt and a beaded black belt.)

The scope, sizing, price range, and exact launch date of the Simone Rocha x Adidas collaboration will likely remain under wraps until later in the year. What's obvious from the first impression—and from Simone Rocha's past link-ups with the likes of Crocs and H&M—is that this collection will sell out faster than someone can say, "Goal!"

2025 was a big year for Adidas Superstar sneakers—their buzziest one in a while. Everyone from Taylor Swift and Olivia Dean to Tate McRae and Jennie Kim added the classics to their shoe rack. Jenner, on the other hand, is reuniting with the silhouette after a multi-year hiatus. The buzziest celebrity trend this week is dressing up sneakers with a rare designer handbag. Bella Hadid coordinated Nike Shox TL sneakers to a quilted Chanel tote; Simone Biles's Nike Zoom Vomeros looked luxe with a Hermès Kelly; Mary-Kate Olsen styled Adidas Sambae sneakers and a mysterious The Row bag in the same February 19 outfit.

One of these It girls is not like the other. The Olsen twin rarely graces New York City's sidewalks with her The Row-clad presence. But five months after her latest public sighting—with Kendall Jenner in West Hollywood—Olsen stepped out in an elongated, black velvet coat topped with a paisley scarf and shield sunglasses. Mary-Kate is the bigger sneakerhead of the two Olsen twins. She's been an Adidas Sambas girl since their initial circa-2022 comeback, but her latest pair seems to be the Samba-adjacent Sambaes. The black, low-profile pair mirrored the slim, leather uppers of classic style, down to the white stripe trios atop each sidewall. The leading difference? 0.75"-high gumsoles traded places with pumped-up, 1.25" platform treads. The color of each sole, on the other hand, was almost identical to the black Sambas on Jennifer Lawrence and Katie Holmes's shoe racks.

Pairing $110 sneakers with a The Row collector's item is just another Thursday for Olsen. Her burgundy take on the bowling bag trend looked like it could have The Row tags—when isn't an Olsen carrying her own designs? However, an in with the twins-turned-creative directors is the only way to confirm its exact model.

From afar, the bag features the same arched closure as the tricky-to-track-down Margaux, minus each gusset's inset belt buckles. Glossy crocodile leather decorated every nook and cranny, similar to Lawrence's $33,000 The Row Lady Bag.

There's a chance it's a custom recreation of the $4,100 Agnes 12 purse, judging by its slightly slouchy center and double top handles. On Feb. 18, Who What Wear reported it was back in stock, but it didn't last long. Every shade sold out in less than 24 hours. The Row's India will have to do for anyone on the handbag hunt.

The average New Yorker may view The Row's handbags as special-occasion-only styles. But for Olsen, Adidas Sambae sneakers and The Row purses go together like peanut butter and jelly. It's one of her signature not-so matching sets. In Oct. 2022, she paired the same nameless top-handle tote with original Adidas Sambas.

I have been an Adidas fan for over half a decade now. I fully leaned into the brand and all that it stands for during the pandemic, thanks in part to my mom (you can catch her in Adidas on the daily, too!), and the self-enforced rule that required me to change out of my pajamas when working from home—track pants and sneakers became the next best thing.

While most of the fashion industry has since come around to Adidas joining the “It brand" crowd, in large part due to the viral Samba and Tokyo sneakers, I can say that I have perpetually relied on its full range to create some of my most fashionable (and favorite) looks. Last September, I incorporated black and neon green Adidas track pants and a striped, cropped cardigan into my New York Fashion Week outfits, and they were deemed chic enough by street style photographers who snapped away at the three-stripe motif.

As trends come and go, and industry insiders begin to replace their sneakers with loafers and their athleisure with barrel jeans, I intend to keep my Adidas pieces in play alongside my designer favorites. Whenever I wear Adidas, I try to round out the look with something that contrasts the sporty piece. For example, I would pair an Adidas tube top with leather pants and Balenciaga heels or a pink, wide-leg sweatpant with a vintage off-the-shoulder blouse. Fans knew Bad Bunny wouldn't take the Super Bowl halftime show stage in his Schiaparelli Oxfords from the 2026 Grammys. Even so, performing his greatest hits in his very own Adidas sneakers surprised even the most devoted Conejos.

The Adidas BadBo 1.0 sneakers earned their first close-up around two minutes into Bad Bunny's set: on top of a celebrity-filled casita inside Levi's Stadium. His first signature shoe with Adidas was a perfect shade match to his custom, football-inspired Zara set. Little did fans know, while Bad Bunny danced to hits like "Tití Me Preguntó," "NUEVAYoL," and "Yo Perreo Sola," he was planning on re-releasing the once-sold-out model as a post-Super Bowl present the next morning.

With the dust barely settled on the Benito Super Bowl, Adidas dropped the $160 BadBo 1.0 sneakers in white, just like the singer's show shoes. Nubuck and hairy teasel suede shared custody on the neutral uppers, before flat, rubber outsoles introduced warm-toned beige into the mix. (You may recognize the silhouette from his pre-Super Bowl press conference, though they were black and white.)

Contrary to the best-selling Adidas Sambas, ventilation holes decorated the sidewalls, perhaps to support Bad Bunny during his "immersive" performance. Sky blue, zig-zag stitching atop the tongue matched the shade of Adidas's logo.

A star on each heel drew "direct inspiration from the iconic symbol on the Puerto Rican flag," according to a press release. Like his Zara football jersey—specifically its "OCASIO 64" embroidery, inspired by his mother's last name—the star paid tribute to his Puerto Rican roots.

To no surprise, Bad Bunny's Super Bowl sneakers sold out in minutes. (If Zara had listed his jersey-centric set, it would've shared the same fate.) The BadBos were almost guaranteed to go fast: Not just because they starred in his halftime show, but also because of last week's drop.

Bad Bunny and Adidas initially released the $160 sneakers in brown hours after DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS took home the 2026 Grammy Award for Album of the Year. Just 1,994 pairs were available (a number equivalent to the singer's birth year) and sold out before Bad Bunny could add his three Grammys to his trophy collection.

The main difference between both editions of BadBos? The initial, brown-and-white style traded the Puerto Rican star for “1994/1994" in the aforementioned bright blue embroidery. Its rubber outsole—though equally level to the turf—was stark white, not beige.

Before Bad Bunny could publicly celebrate his second Adidas collaboration, he wiped his Instagram grid clean. This move typically signals a creative shift from a major artist, whether it be musically or sartorially. If we're lucky, this means Bad Bunny already has a new era in the works. As long as his next move includes a restock of the Adidas BadBo 1.0 sneakers, we'll be happy. Everyone knows from the "BOKeTE" music video and the Super Bowl press conference that there are more colors available.

We were existentially hopeful about the future, only for those #Girlboss dreams to be snuffed out come November. The year was 2016, and it was a wild ride—one that is, supposedly, gearing up for a revival in 2026.

Around the holidays, the internet at large grew nostalgic for the good old days of ten years ago, and adopted “2026 is the new 2016” as its new motto. Users started spelunking through their camera rolls to reshare Snapchat dog filter selfies and #OOTDs set to Drake’s “Hotline Bling”. Kylie Jenner revived “King Kylie”, changing her Instagram profile photo to her with Millennial-pink hair, in a Supreme hoodie and a Candy K lip kit-coated lips.

Soon, outlets across the globe, from Vogue to Marie Claire UK to Elle India, were declaring that the 2016 fashion revival was sweeping 2026’s top trends. But is that true, or is it just another internet trend born in a bubble? Are we all about to be wearing skinny jeans and “We Should All Be Feminists” slogan tees again?

In some sense, yes—but mostly no.

“Right now, fashion feels like it’s finding its balance between comfort and cool again,” says Julie Sariñana, the founder of Sincerely Jules, one of the most popular sites during the 2010s blogging boom. “People are craving easy, confident style that isn’t overly curated—which is what 2016 was. We mixed high and low, masculine and feminine, vintage and modern. It was less about perfection and more about personality; it felt real, wearable, expressive, attainable, and lived-in.”

It’s the same impulse that made a strong, singular style such a hot commodity in 2026. “2016 was the first time personal style went truly global thanks to social media,” says Noelle Sciacca, head of fashion and strategic partnerships at The RealReal and a former fashion editor at Lucky, Cosmopolitan, and Seventeen. “You could discover new designers, mix luxury with vintage, and make it your own; that spirit of experimentation feels fresh again in 2026 after a period of capsule wardrobes and uniform dressing."

In 2016, Instagram was only six years old, and TikTok was just the sound a clock made. “That era encouraged people to dress for themselves, not just for trends or algorithms,” says Sariñana. “It feels refreshing to revisit a time when getting dressed was about how something made you feel, not just how it photographed."

Think of it as another "touch grass" trend, like when It girls wore garden clocks and burly barn jackets like a farmer from the English countryside last year. The people yearn to feel as free with their fashion as they did when they shared #candid mirror selfies and wore flower crowns and moto boots to Coachella.

That said, a resurgence of 2016-era silhouettes wasn’t entirely pulled from thin air. Cigarette jeans walked all over the Spring 2026 runways. Rihanna is wearing lace slip dresses with army green bomber jackets, just like she did when “Work” was the top track of the year. Ten years is also pretty par for the course for a bout of style nostalgia—just enough time for fashion girls to feel fondly for velvet ribbon chokers and DIY denim cut-offs. What's more, to reiterate Sciacca, today's shopper wants to walk out the door in an outfit that's personalized to them.

“What I love most about the 2016 revival is that it reminds us that style is repetitive, but personal style is forever,” says Sariñana. “The pieces may come back, but the way you wear them should always feel true to who you are now. If there’s one takeaway, it’s to trust your fashion instincts."

Katy Lubin, the VP of brand and communications at Lyst and the brain behind the fashion search engine's quarterly indexes, links the modern fever for It bags, shoes, and any item at all, really, to the phenomenon of lining up multiple New York City blocks for the new Supreme drop a decade ago.

“2016 proved how one cult product could define a year, from Gucci’s Princetown loafers to the J.W. Anderson Pierce bag driving a three-times spike in brand traffic,” says the fashion expert, who has been at Lyst since pre-2016 and seen these industry shifts in real time. “In 2026, fashion is even more product-led, with consumers more frequently searching for ‘the item’ rather than the brand behind it.” Think: a Carhartt barn jacket, that one Cos sweater, and that Miu Miu x New Balance sneaker that's nearly impossible to find in stock.

Denim Dominates

“As we eased out of the stretchy skinny jeans era, 2016 had us embracing a slightly looser, slim-cut denim, cropped at the ankle, with extra style points for a lightly frayed hem,” explains Sciacca. Cut to 2026, and we’re observing a similar pattern.

“After seasons of ultra–wide-leg silhouettes, there’s renewed interest in slimmer, straight styles," she continues. "On The RealReal, sales for straight-leg jeans are up 10 percent since last year, and, to my surprise, cropped jeans have surged by an incredible 1,787 percent.”

Lubin substantiates the parallels with 2026’s denim trends: “2016 marked the return of normcore staples, with straight-leg jeans becoming a fashion statement. Levi’s 501s were the most viewed jeans on Lyst that year. In 2026, we’re seeing the same demand for timeless, recognizable pieces, now reframed as premium investments."

Slim Sneakers

You know this one already: From the Adidas Tokyo, Puma Speedcat, and Prada’s best-selling close-to-the-foot trainers, slim sneakers are at the tip-top of 2026’s shoe trends. Today's slender sneakers call back to 2016, when looks were “often finished with a pair of crisp white Adidas Stan Smiths or Common Projects sneakers,” Sciacca says. “While Stan Smiths may no longer be the go-to, retro-inspired sneakers from Dries Van Noten and Wales Bonner x Adidas collaborations—up 123 percent in demand year over year on the RealReal—are leading the charge.”

Bold Colors

"In 2016, bold crayon colors were everywhere—it was practically a style requirement,” Sciacca remembers. “Vetements was shaking up the industry with green sock boots and asymmetrical yellow dresses; buzzy newcomer Sies Marjan made its debut with a palette defined by vibrant shades and a notable absence of black; and even the Philophiles were getting in on the action, with Celine’s bold pops of color to its minimalist looks.”

The 2026 color palette is proving to be just as vibrant. “Cobalt blue—a standout on the Spring 2026 runways at Loewe and Jil Sander—has seen a 342 percent increase in searches on The RealReal since last year," Sciacca says. "Canary yellow also made a strong return at Bottega Veneta, Prada, and Miu Miu—a shade once beloved by Sies Marjan." (Although the eclectic and colorful NYC-based brand has since closed, she notes that demand for it increased by 31 percent year over year on The RealReal.)

Subcultures and Social Media

This last trend is a bit more heady, but bear with us. "Back in 2016, we saw broad subcultures like 'skater' and ‘emo’ style go mainstream via Instagram, with choker sales rising 120 percent and Vans Old Skools becoming the United Kingdom’s most searched sneaker,” Lubin recalls.

As the chronically online will tell you, the last few years have seen a surplus of hyper-niche aesthetics hit the mainstream, too—from the office siren to the tomato girl. “But,” Lubin says, “the landscape is now far more fragmented, and feels a little darker; where we once had thriving, cohesive communities online, we now see meaningful fashion pieces appropriated, diluted, and exploited by brands mining for relevance before the algorithm moves on.” Remember when TikTok tried to rebrand dupattas, a centuries-old South Asian garment, as “Scandinavian summer staple to wear to Euro weddings"? Yeah—like that.

“Looking ahead, we'll see more shoppers curating highly personal aesthetics that resist easy categorization or commodification,” Lubin continues.

Imagine subcultural pieces paired with unrelated items, like a military Hussar jacket styled with a denim skirt or a boho-coded lace dress with a business-y blazer—outfits that have traces of niche trends, but don't belong squarely in an easily identifiable box.

Historically, it’s been relatively easy to predict how Gen Z will feel about a fashion trend. If Millennials like it, Zoomers won’t. If it originated online and doubles as a quick-to-pick-up persona—a mob wife, an office siren, or insert-whatever-core-comes-next—the digitally-native generation typically embraces it. For a while, it felt like the generation’s top two style priorities were making Millennials mad and curating a digital-first identity. At least they were, until 2026.

“After years of ultra-fast micro-trends, Gen Z is showing fatigue with constant novelty and is increasingly valuing pieces that last—emotionally, stylistically, and materially,” explains Noémie Voyer, fashion lead at trend analytics platform Heuritech.

No longer driven by a knee-jerk rejection of Millennial style and now a grown-up member of the workforce in an unpredictable financial, political, and social reality, Gen Z wants clothes that provide joy and security. “Globally, fashion [in 2026] is less about rigid labels or one defining aesthetic and more about fluid self-expression, mixing personal references depending on mood, context, or community," Voyer says. "And [Gen Z] are the best at playing with that.”

To make sense of where the generation now falls on the fashion landscape, Marie Claire polled two Gen Z fashion creators, a secondhand expert at Depop, and a trend forecaster for their insights. (Full disclosure: I, Emma Childs, MC's fashion features editor, am also a ‘98-born Zoomer.) Ahead, discover the top Gen Z fashion trends for 2026, as well as the specific styles and brands they’re shopping. Across all ages, the findings below are a great lesson in self-expression balanced with functionality.

Old-Soul Sportswear

According to Gen Z, athleisure is dead. Long live athleisure.

In its place comes a more stylized take on sportswear. “Post-pandemic habits remain embedded but are now translated into more polished, intentional silhouettes rather than overt loungewear,” says Voyer. Or, as Ruby Lyn, a Gen Z social media star with a combined audience of over 1.2 million followers, puts it, the generation is still wearing workout wear, but “not in a matching-set kind of way—in a ‘90’s-celeb-grocery-run way.”

In action, the trend looks like athletic essentials paired with tailored, everyday items. (Think: track jackets with denim and striped rugby shirts with kitten heels.) Gen Z is also leading a vintage sportswear revival, "which reflects a taste for comfort, style, and cultural relevance,” says Steve Dool, the senior director of brand and creative at Depop. To quantify it: Searches for "vintage Lululemon" are up 1,689 percent on Depop, as are those for "upcycled jerseys" (up 233 percent), "skiwear" (up 228 percent), and "bike shorts" (up 133 percent).

Modern Uniforms

In 2026, “consistency becomes the new flex,” says Dool. “Amid decision fatigue, economic tension, and digital noise, people are turning to dependable, neutral staples with sharp tailoring, boxy knits, and workwear classics as a way to express taste through repetition rather than constant reinvention.”

Sarahbelle Kim, a Zoomer content creator and buying trainee at Bloomingdale's, sees this specific Gen Z shift as a side effect of the flattening trend cycle. “Things that were once niche have become viral fodder (e.g., Margiela Tabis), and the recycling of aesthetics and the internet's tendency to rapidly tire of them will eventually force us to reckon with what it means to have a personal relationship with style. Functionality in clothing—ample pockets, compartments, etc.—will be appreciated as we go forward, perhaps cutting through some of the noise.”

Expect to see the generation in timeless, easy-to-rewear items, including utility jackets, quarter zips, and button-down shirts they can don to their corporate 9-to-5s, as well as balloon pants that are easy to move in. The H&M Group brand Cos particularly excels here, with Depop searches for it spiking over 696 percent.

Mad Hatter

2026 is the year Gen Z goes all-in on “crazy, funky, junky hats,” to quote The Wizards of Waverly Place, one of the many Disney shows it was raised on. As Voyer notes, hats are low-lift additions with personality and flair, an easy win for a generation hyper-focused on individuality.

The trend forecaster adds that Gen Z is also increasingly reaching for vintage-inspired hats, “as retro and familiar references are used less as irony and more as reassurance in a context of economic, social, and digital instability.”

Kim confirms Voyer’s point by highlighting the pillbox hat trend, part of fashion’s overall “return to ‘50s sensibilities.” Additionally, Lyn endorses paperboy caps, while Voyer adds fur and knit hats in “cute, retro, Wes Anderson-esque shapes” to the list.

2010s Revival

A noticeable shift from its known ire against styles that Millennials feel fondly for, Gen Z has endorsed “the swagalicious return of the 2010s,” as Kim describes it. The generation used to call skinny jeans cringe, but now they’re cool in an irreverent Addison Rae kind of way. (Searches for “skinny jeans” spiked 131 percent on Depop over the last year.)

Dool adds that Ed Hardy, original Hollister pieces (especially those babydoll-style tops that peaked around 2012), and JNCO jorts have become highly sought after on the secondhand platform. Kim also anticipates an “explosion of turquoise, pastel grunge, studded accessories, fringe, chunky heels, and bandage dresses"—all styles that defined the era as well as Kesha and mustache motifs did.

Everyday Ceremony

As the younger generation reckons with real-life responsibilities, it’s leaving behind extreme displays of self-expression for more subtle ones.

“People are dressing purposefully, using bold and tailored pieces to make everyday routines feel special,” says Dool, shouting out specific styles like military jackets, structured blazers, metallic skirts, statement jewelry, and kitten heels.

Lyn expects "more structured basics to also have a moment this year, whether it’s shoulder pads or intentional tapering to accentuate the body, as a fun and easy way to spice up an outfit without doing too much."

Voyer adds “cowl plunge tops” and “cape tops" to that list, noting that Heuirtech has observed that both styles have steadily grown in popularity over the years, particularly among people aged 16 to 25, and will continue to surge in the next 12 months.

Curated Hodgepodge

Sofia Richie Grainge’s flavor of quiet luxury used to have a firm hold on Gen Z, but the less-is-best approach has officially lost its luster. Among her fellow Zoomers, Kim has observed “a fatigue of neutrals and a craving for things that jolt us from the slop" and "people resonating with craftier, playful styles.” She pinpoints intricate textures and embellishments, such as boas, fringe, and tassels, as coming strongly into play. We started seeing a big shift in sneakers in 2025: It Girls began to break away from the quiet luxury trend that had a stronghold on fashion, swapping more minimal footwear for chunky running shoes, animal-printed styles, and more expressive kicks. It set the stage for this push towards individualism in personal style to grow stronger over the last few months, as evidenced by 2026's biggest sneaker trends.

As a new batch of spring sneaker trends rolls around, newer iterations of 2025's ballet sneakers that lean into femininity with satin and silk fabrications have continued to grow in popularity, as has the controversial sneaker heel, which has found a legion of new fans online. More traditional styles also got technical upgrades—like the rise of the approach shoe trend—that seamlessly meld style and support; this points to a broader interest in functionality, according to Lucila Saldana, the Footwear and Accessories Strategist at forecasting platform WGSN, who says it will become a full-blown "non-negotiable" in the category over the next few months.

While Adidas has maintained a years-long dominance in the category, some other big players are coming for its crown in 2026. As Julia Lebossé, creator of the popular Instagram account Sneakers by Women, argues: “The brands that will stand out will be the ones that create a shoe people genuinely want to wear every day, something that feels current, easy to style, and naturally fits into real wardrobes." She calls out Puma and its viral Speedcat silhouette as an example of a rising It shoe. Linda Cui Zhang, Fashion Director at Nordstrom, also has eyes on the brand, highlighting its neon-hued H-Street style as one to watch.

Don’t count out the sneakers you invested in last year, though: Ultra-slender styles are back for more, serving as the sole holdout from the retro craze. In 2026, they're closer to a jazz shoe than an actual sneaker, blurring the lines between categories in a way that feels fresh. Plus, metallic accents have been swapped for silver sneakers that look like they've been dipped in liquid metal.

Close-Fitting Kicks

Slender styles are the strongest tie to last year's biggest sneaker trends. In 2026, they're even more delicate than ever before. Lebossé notes that what makes them so distinctive is "how wearable these shoes are."

"They feel considered without being overdone, and it’s exciting to see women’s sneakers designed in a way that feels modern, versatile, and intentional," she says.

While classic styles like the Adidas Tokyo are still going strong (you can't get rid of the label that easily), it's time to expand your horizons. "Each brand is approaching the slimmed-down direction differently, which keeps the trend feeling fresh rather than repetitive," Leobossé says. Look to Gola, Reformation, and Everlane for styles that look more like slippers than sneakers. Or, try the Adidas Paris silhouette is a fresh way to stick to the brand that you love.

Modern Balletcore

Get ready to be even more obsessed with the ballet sneaker trend in 2026, with new fabrications that make it even sweeter. You can choose one in ballet pink, cool blue, or pick one up in a preppy navy blue, perfect for wearing into the office. Adorn yours with ribbon laces and ruffled socks to play on the ballerina feel.

Puma As *the* Brand to Watch

I'm a longtime Puma fan, so I was excited when Zhang mentioned that she had her eye on the brand for the year ahead.

"The H-Street launch is exciting, taking that minimalist low-profile silhouette and reimagining it in brights and neons," she says.

Puma has a solid record of reimagining trending styles, from gorpcore-inspired Mary Janes to cheetah Speedcats that make a strong case for adding another animal-print sneaker to your collection.

Functionality First

Fashion girls are embracing comfort more than ever before, opting for stylish sneakers with handy lace-free designs, super-supportive soles, and other hyper-functional details.

"Easy-access fastenings, hands-free entry, modular components, and weather-adaptive materials respond directly to consumer needs for comfort, practicality, and all-conditions wear," says WGSN's Saldana.

Aesthetically, these sneakers adopt the hiking-adjacent look popularized by brands like Salomon and Teva for everyday wear. "Details like weatherproofing, cord laces, and extended outsoles bring that outdoors lifestyle into trend," says Zhang.

Sneaker Heels

It's 2016 all over again. I was very aware of the sneaker heel in its 2010s heyday: Unable to afford the Isabel Marant style that made the look famous, I borderline begged my parents for a version from Urban Outfitters. I wish I had kept them, because they're back in 2026—though far more diversified than in the past.

Silver Sneakers

Silver sneakers are the maximalist-coded style slowly taking over the fashion world this spring. If you treat them as you would a pair of silver earrings, they can go with just about anything in your wardrobe. Style them with workwear essentials and they're perfectly elevated for the office. Or, they an easily be dressed down for days off.

Happy New Year! My coworkers at Marie Claire have already made their predictions for 2026’s biggest trends. (Get ready: Beach-inspired bags for everywhere but vacation are on deck.) According to A-listers’ street style, there isn’t a major vibe shift headed for the sneaker aisle. Instead, it seems like a few breakout sneakers from 2025 are set to continue their reign. They’re fit for 20,000-step days and have some serious fashion cred; a win-win for those of us who prefer comfort-first footwear.

Ready to start 2026 on the right foot? (Sorry, I had to.) Here are the three must-know sneaker trends celebrities from Rihanna to Jennifer Lawrence are already wearing.

The Puma Speedcat Sneaker

This suede take on the ballet sneaker trend was photographed almost as often as Rihanna last year. That’s not only because the Fenty mogul owns them in blueberry, petal pink, lavender, and red. The retro, two-tone Speedcat won over everyone from Dua Lipa to Gracie Abrams and Emily Ratajkowski. With this many loyal fans, there’s no way it leaves the spotlight in 2026.

The Adidas Tokyo Sneaker

Jennifer Lawrence has dabbled in all sorts of Adidas Samba-alternatives, from Vans Old Skools to Nike V2Ks. But by my tally, the pair she wore more than any other in 2025 was the Adidas Tokyo. I can see the appeal: They’re low-profile with a pretty rounded toe box, like a ballet flat gone into sport mode. Since ordering a pair last fall, I wear mine almost as frequently as Lawrence does.

The On Cloud Sneaker

Every time Kaia Gerber or Zendaya was spotted en route to Pilates last year, they were wearing one of On’s pumped-up white sneakers. (Z even designed her own rendition that promptly sold out.) I can confirm after working them into my marathon training routine that they’re as cloud-soft as the name suggests—and they’ll be the elite edition to many more celebs’ workout rotations in the year ahead.

In a 2024 game of "I Spy," Adidas Sambas would have been the easiest pair of sneakers to spot. But by 2025, rarer models stepped up in the rankings.

All year, celebrity sneakerheads traded best-sellers for pairs only recognized by eagle-eyed enthusiasts (or Google Image Search). "Styles like Adidas Sambas or Onitsuka Tiger’s Mexico 66 may be fan favorites, but they are also everywhere," StockX's Brendan Dunne, senior director of customer community and engagement, tells me over email. "That ubiquity pushed consumers to seek out new releases that have yet to see widespread adoption, or exclusive styles that feel more unique."

So in 2025, A-listers' biggest flex wasn't simply finding a sneaker that coordinated with their five-figure designer bag or off-the-runway outfit. It was tracking down a new or retro sneaker that hardly anyone else had.

In early September, Rihanna got her hands on circa-1998 Spike Turf Sneakers from Puma's collaboration with Jil Sander. The white trainers stood out for their cleat-like soles, contrary to the Puma Speedcats and Avantis already on Rihanna's shoe rack.

It seems Rihanna—the brand's most loyal ambassador—debuted the cleat sneakers to tease the March 2026 return of Puma x Jil Sander. The labels announced their second collaboration just weeks after Rihanna took her archival pair for a walk.

A month prior, Rihanna pulled another sneaker out of retirement: Puma x Ottolinger Mostro sneakers, to match the yellow underlay of her vintage Issey Miyake Spring 2001. With neon-green soles, these are some of the more vibrant Pumas in her collection (right next to her blue Speedcat and Mostro Ecstasy sneakers, anyway). Rihanna first styled the metallic silver shoes in July 2024, four months after they hit shelves. The red-and-silver shade joined her closet shortly after.

Rihanna's rare Puma collection is something of a work requirement: As a fashion designer, she often releases pieces under the Fenty x Puma umbrella. But not every celebrity needed an official contract to trot out a rare collaboration. Take Jennifer Lawrence, who got her hands on a limited-edition pair of New Balance's 1906Rs designed with Aimé Leon Dore.

Lawrence wore her green and bronze pair on repeat during her second pregnancy. The Dore's preppy streetwear blended seamlessly with New Balance's best-selling silhouette; now, pairs from the collab fetch up to $325 on the resale market.

This isn't the last New Balance collab to enter the A-list arena. "Since then, the silhouette has continued to evolve through additional partnerships with Kith, Jack Harlow, Comme des Garçons, and Salehe Bembury, solidifying the 1906R as one of the brand’s most ubiquitous styles," Dunne of StockX adds.

Some celebrities, like Dua Lipa, tapped a close designer friend to build out their sneaker collection. In mid-November, she ended her five-year Nike hiatus with headline-making Moon Shoes—from a collaboration with her close friend, Simone Porte Jacquemus.

Dunne called the retro slip-ons "a Jacquemus-stamped answer to the recent slim sneaker trend." The original design, however, is 53 years old. The Moon Shoes have remained otherwise unmanufactured since Nike's co-founder Bill Bowerman presented them at the U.S. Olympics Trials in 1972. By the time Jacquemus and Nike were joining forces for a partnership nearly 50 years later, the French designer decided it was time to bring the archival style back.

It was a savvy move. The reworked sneaker "landed at a middle ground between sneaker nerds and fashion enthusiasts," Dunne explained. And, it sold out in minutes after two restocks.

Still, Lipa was able to secure the Moon Shoes in the Alabaster colorway. The once-$180 shoes are currently shoppable on StockX for $345.

In the midst of the Moon Shoe's takeover, Jennifer Lopez brought a seven-year-old Nike collaboration back into the conversation. This year, the circa-2018 Nike x Off-White Air Presto sneakers became her signature dance studio footwear.

Each shoe's block-letter Helvetica script, mesh monochromatic uppers, and red plastic zip-ties set them apart from the market's constant stream of white sneakers. Creative director Virgil Abloh deconstructed the Air Prestos in true Off-White form, 18 years after the model's original release.

Sure, she was six years late to the Nike x Off-White party. But Lopez made up for it in spades, having worn them over 15 times since April 2025.

The reign of the non-obvious sneaker is hardly nearing its end. Toward the end of the year, StockX noticed "impressive sales growth" in smaller, "more niche" brands like Saucony, Mizuno, and Brooks. It seems 2026's celebrity sneaker scene is on track to continue last year's streak. "This speaks to consumers’ desire to be early adopters of new brands and diversify their closets," Dunne said.

By this time next year, a sidewalk sneaker tally might even be Sambas-free.

We looked at our internal data, crunched the numbers, and identified the top 10 sneakers of 2025, according to you, the Marie Claire reader. Spoiler: Y'all really, really like Adidas.

Adidas Taekwondo Sneaker

You might not be surprised to learn that the Adidas Taekwondo was, by far, the most popular sneaker of 2025 among Marie Claire readers. The shoe style, first introduced in the 2000s, falls within a broader trend we've seen within footwear: a preference for a slimmer profile. (See the rise of ballet sneakers.) It started gaining traction late last year, and its ascendance to the top of the fashion echelon was confirmed when Lyst named it as the #2 hottest product of Q1 2025. They've since been spotted on Jennifer Lawrence, Dakota Johnson, and a host of other It girls. Kendall Jenner even put it on her holiday wish list.

The Adidas Taekwondo comes both laced and laceless, in a host of colors, as well as with a visible rubber outsole or as a laced-up ballet flat. Designers including Stella McCartney and Jeremy Scott have iterated on the style in their collaborations with the brand over the years—further proof that its appeal is eternal.

Adidas Samba

Sometimes, you can't beat a classic. And it doesn't get more classic than the Adidas Samba.

Years after Wales Bonner reignited fashion's love with the sneaker (which was first introduced in the 1950s and then reimagined as we know it today in the '70s) in her first collection with Adidas back in 2020, tastemakers—from It girls to celebrities—still can't get enough. It's easy to understand why: Sambas are some of the most versatile sneakers you can buy, and the brand has released a variety of riffs on the beloved style. (With a platform sole! With a long tongue! As a Mary Jane!)

Adidas Tokyo Sneaker

Coming in at #3, Adidas' Tokyo Sneaker is right on the heels of its archival sibling, the Taekwondo. Another favorite of Jennifer Lawrence's and Kendall Jenner's (both of whom are documented Adidas aficionados), the retro rerelease has been steadily rising through the It-shoe ranks, especially for casual outings. If you haven't already added it to your rotation, meet your new go-to off-duty sneaker in 2026.

Adidas SL72 OG Shoes

Another retro favorite, Adidas' SL72 OG Shoes—a lightweight running sneaker design from the '70s, relaunched in 2024—have a sportier look than some of the brand's other reissues, with their more pronounced rubber outsoles. They're still slimmer than most athletic styles, and they boast a nylon upper, making them feel lighter.

Bonner is a fan, including a version of the SL72 in her first ever collection for Adidas. Bad Bunny put his own spin on the style with his hybrid Adizero SL72, part of his ongoing collaboration with the brand; the most recent edition dropped in September.

Adidas Handball Spezial Shoes

The Adidas Handball Spezial Sneakers are often dubbed a Samba alternative. Like the name suggests, these were originally intended for elite handball players, but have been embraced off the court by those drawn to the retro feel of the suede upper and rubber outsole. Case in point: Lily Collins was spotted wearing them on set of Emily in Paris season five. If you want a little more support from your footwear in 2026, swap your Sambas for these.

Other Top Sneakers of 2025, According to 'Marie Claire' Readers

Kendall Jenner saw Jennifer Lawrence, Dakota Johnson, and Jennie Kim wearing Adidas Taekwondo sneakers on the street style scene, and immediately added them to her holiday wish list. (Celebrities, they're just like us!)

A week after Black Friday and Cyber Monday slashed the slim sneakers' price in half (and then some), Jenner ensured an end-of-year sell-out is in the cards. On December 9, the It girl blessed her 285 million Instagram followers with a comprehensive list of "What I'm Loving This Holiday." Among a 45-piece sea of SKIMS loungewear, Kylie Cosmetics skincare, home decor, and The Row accessories, the Adidas best-sellers stood out for their under-$100 price tag.

The supermodel has yet to style her Taekwondo sneakers in public. (Trust: Fashion girls would've ID'd their low-profile toe boxes and triple stripes in a heartbeat.) But if the Kardashian-Jenner sisters source her wish list for shopping inspiration, that could change in days. Given her affinity for Adidas Sambas, the Taekwondos will fit seamlessly into her regular rotation. The '90s-era silhouette is even more streamlined than Sambas, with subtle ballet sneaker-inspired charm.

At Adidas, Jenner's preferred black Taekwondos are no longer shoppable, after the brand marked them down to $36. Thankfully for fans, Nordstrom Rack kept Black Friday sales going long after the expiration date. As of pub time, the once-$90 trainers are once again $30 (the exact sale offered over Cyber Monday weekend). That's 66 percent you can save to score other Jenner-approved pieces, like her favorite L'Oréal Paris lipstick or luxury bath salts.

Since Jenner hasn't delivered Taekwondo-clad style inspiration just yet, source Jennifer Lawrence for some instead. Last spring, the Oscar winner hardly took them off. She adored pairing them with wide-leg trousers, a neutral coat, and a statement handbag. (A Prada leopard-print tote was her tried-and-true at the time.)

When the time comes, I suspect Jenner will wear the Adidas shoes quite similarly. After all, she pairs her Sambas with baggy bottoms, oversize outerwear, and a four-figure The Row bag—elevated basics aligned with Lawrence's aesthetic, too.

Celebrity approval plus a surprise sale equals a bona fide sneaker takeover. Expect to see Jenner's Christmas wish on street style stars from L.A. to New York City and beyond.
