Every rich mom from here to Hollywood can't stop styling the heeled flip-flops trend. But did Kylie Jenner or Hailey Bieber ever wear the It shoes while pregnant? The jury's not decided. On June 30, Anne Hathaway set the record straight on their behalf: Flip-flops of the kitten heel variety are made for maternity styling.

As of yesterday, the Oscar winner's Odyssey press tour is officially up and running. Stylist Erin Walsh dressed Hathaway in the strawberry red color trend from torso-to-sole. Hathaway's sandals from It girl-beloved brand Vivaia looked especially fresh from the garden.

They weren't your average heeled flip-flops, though. Signature V-shaped straps shared the spotlight with another horizontal band, both of which kept Hathaway from wobbling. Not only were the two-inch stilettos relatively painless, perforated, extra-cushioned soles gave her the arch support moms-to-be dream about.

On the off chance she didn't feel stable enough yet, the rubber outsoles were designed with anti-slip safety in mind. Better yet, Hathaway's exact shade and silhouette is still available for $129.

The price tag isn't surprising, given Vivaia's six-year legacy of selling luxury-looking shoes for under $300. After all, this is the same label behind Bella Hadid's beloved $159 ballet sneakers and Katie Holmes's go-to $129 ballet flats. What else did you expect?

From there, Hathaway's latest pregnancy outfit took a turn toward the exclusive. New York-based brand Ashlyn offers her sleeveless, ruffle-trimmed top for $750. Then there's her Bulgari Serpenti Watch, but you can't receive the price tag without an in-person appointment. The diamond-encrusted design is that valuable.

It seems heeled flip-flops click-clacked from Bottega Veneta, Max Mara, Ottolinger, and Mugler's summer runways right onto Hathaway's Odyssey shoe rack. But weeks earlier, a then-pregnant Rihanna wore Puma x Fenty's take on the trend. The sold-out slides stood just as tall as Hathaway's Vivaias, except spiky cleats replaced singular stilettos.

As recently as May 2026, Elsa Hosk accessorized her growing baby bump with the Sacha flip-flops from The Row. Perhaps fellow rich mom Hailey Bieber put them on Hosk's radar. At this rate, the same four-inch-high thongs could join Hathaway's maternity closet in no time.

If anyone deserves an early push present, it's Anne Hathaway, who announced her third pregnancy in the middle of promoting five feature films. On June 29, her baby bump wasn't the only new addition to New York City's street style scene. Hathaway debuted her brand-new Dior Cigale Bag, a move that migrated the pop star-beloved bag into rich-mom territory.

Hathaway is days away from embarking on her The Odyssey press tour, before it hits theaters on July 17. So, she dipped her toe into red carpet-worthy, maternity styling with a boatneck T-shirt, semi-sheer trousers, $150 Mary Jane mules from L'AGENCE, and Dior Cigale, all in black. Perhaps she curated Monday's off-duty outfit around her new It bag. (Sabrina Carpenter, Rihanna, and Ariana Grande did the same with their Cigales.)

Hathaway's trapezoidal, Spring 2026 style featured the singular top handle, envelope-style body, and petal-like bow as Taylor Swift's Cigale. It looked a little more spacious, though, suggesting it's the medium, $5,500 model.

Hathaway's Cigale didn't quite twin with Grande's, either. Creative director Jonathan Anderson's hidden logo (monogrammed beside the back's grommet duo) turned yellow gold, unlike Grande's silver hardware. Like any Dior Cigale—whether it be Carpenter's butter-yellow bag or Charli xcx's peony-pink pick—Hathaway's version is only shoppable in-store.

Anne Hathaway's closet runs relatively low on Dior designs, unless we're talking sunglasses. But during her second pregnancy in Oct. 2019, she roamed around NYC in Maria Grazia Chiuri's Book Tote. The branded, Toile de Jouy Sauvage motif made her bottomless cotton bag unmissable. She dressed it down with a cozy turtleneck sweater, a trench coat, leggings, and Adidas Stan Smith sneakers.

The Book Tote hasn't been seen on Hathaway's shoulder since 2019. Its silhouette would make a great baby bag when the little one arrives, though. With help from stylist Erin Walsh, she wore the long-sleeve look backward. This subtle switch allowed the bodice's ruffle trim to cradle her growing baby bump. Walsh earned extra points for matching its stretchy, pregnancy-friendly fabric to her star client's lace-up stilettos.

Sunday, June 21, marked the longest day of the year, meaning the most daylight hours to sample the straw totes, breezy dresses, and surprisingly chic flip-flops celebrities have been wearing all June. Personally, I spent the weekend in the easy pants trend that’s making work outfits feel even comfier than pajamas.

Ahead, I'm sharing exactly how A-listers wore easy pants first—and how I make them work at 37 weeks pregnant. Unlike other summer trends, easy pants work for all ages, sizes, and even as maternity clothes. Can your average summer micro shorts say that? Didn't think so.

The Easy Summer Pant Trend

According to Kendall Jenner, Anne Hathaway, Gigi Hadid, and every style writer I follow on Substack, it’s the summer of the Big Easy Pant. These are the wearable equivalent of an Aperol Spritz (or your summer cocktail/mocktail of choice) on a Summer Friday patio at sunset: simple and refreshing, totally relaxed.

Of course, when styled with a Balenciaga Rodeo bag or an elite summer sandal, even the most laid-back linen pants still manage to look dressier than they feel. And while Jenner’s as loyal as ever to The Row’s quadruple-digit take, I’ve found dozens of others for much less.

Hailey Bieber has been a Miu Miu girl for years. So, when Miuccia Prada presented her sneakerinas in April 2025, Bieber was first in line. She walked away with the Plume Suede Sneakers in navy blue, featuring branded gumsoles and stark white shoelaces.

The Rhode founder even went a little method the last two times she wore them. For each outfit, she took ballet sneakers for a spin alongside oversize outerwear and biker shorts fresh from a dancer's post-rehearsal duffle.

The Devil Wears Prada, when it came out in 2006, balanced an all-too-real look of working for a nightmarish boss with a fashion fantasy, where the heroine could suddenly get her hands on a pair of thigh-high Chanel boots. The Devil Wears Prada 2 pulls off a similar trick. It still offers a delicious peek inside the world of high fashion—with a trip to Milan and a performance by Lady Gaga—but it also presents an honest portrait of an industry trying to cling to relevance.

In the opening moments of the film, Anne Hathaway's Andy Sachs, now a newspaper reporter, is laid off via text. Meanwhile, her old boss Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep, is weathering budget cuts and digital-first prioritizations at her magazine, Runway.

Screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna recognizes the plot may be triggering to journalists, but she also sees this as a universal story. "I mean, we're all going through it," she says. "All businesses are very aware of the downward pressure of who owns you and who controls you."

Andy lands back at Runway as features after Miranda finds herself in the middle of a PR-crisis after she runs an ill-advised story. And while Miranda remains as icy as ever, they eventually find common ground when they try to save what's left of Runway from the corporate vultures who want to decimate it even further. In an interview with Marie Claire ahead of the movie’s May 1 debut, McKenna speaks about returning to these characters after decades, her favorite cameos, and the sequel's already viral moments.

Marie Claire: When did you start honing in on what this story would be?

Aline Brosh McKenna: I think I started pestering [director] David [Frankel] in the pandemic. It seemed like Miranda would inevitably have gotten herself in some kind of trouble in that era—there's been a real decline in the power of cultural icons and public intellectuals; It felt like there were sort of towering institutions that you thought were never going to change. I really was aware that Miranda's fiefdom would have really fundamentally changed, and that her power would be checked by corporate forces, social forces, cultural forces, changing interpersonal dynamics, office dynamics…anytime you just think about Miranda having to interact with HR—I wish we had outtakes of her calls with HR where things have to be explained to her.

MC: Did you have those scenes?

ABK: No, but I could just sit here and write: somebody calls her and says, "You cannot say that about someone's pants." I don't think she would do well with the policing of behavior and utterances.

MC: How did that fit in with where you wanted Andy to be?

ABK: There's a real chastened purity to the end of the first movie where she thinks she's above it all and then she goes back to her roots. I think she's more mature. But I love the idea that she's been really pursuing the thing that she loves, it's just the thing that she loves is maybe not a thing anymore.

MC: How did you think about balancing the realities of what it's like to be in a crumbling industry with the glamorous escapism that people want out of a Devil Wears Prada movie?

ABM: These are still very privileged people. It's like going to a fancy restaurant with someone's rich parents and then they complain about how the bread basket used to be better. There is something inherently pretty funny about these people, who have been bathed in enormous privilege, having it slowly, slowly pulled away from them in some big ways and some in small ways. And there just was this thing where wealthy executives had their travel cut enormously, but the tippy top-top people are still on the private plane.

But also we're not really worried that Miranda's shoe budget will be significantly slashed. All of her stuff is still high retail. But the assistants certainly are digging through Buffalo Exchange. We all used to dress like little business people when we were coming up, and I think things have become more casual also because the high-end stuff has become so expensive. A Chanel bag now is wildly out of step with people's income; doesn't stop certain people from buying it but those discrepancies are enormous now.

MC: What did you think of the role the assistants would play?

ABM: I've had a number of really great Gen Z assistants who maybe people felt like their manner was maybe unserious, but they were actually really smart and really resourceful. That was the inspiration for Jin's character: somebody who's maybe not the most intimidating when you meet her and maybe has a cadence that older people like to make fun of. But then she's actually one of the heroes of the movie; she's actually the only assistant who does anything plot-wise.

And then, Caleb [Hearon]'s character to me was somebody who just loves that place and wants to be part of that world, and understands the layout and is trying to get his bearings. I just love the idea of an enthusiastic kid who's just excited to be there and loved it when he got that call. I think his parents probably help him out a little bit here and there because he just loves what he does so much, and he's always loved fashion, and he dressed up for picture day.

Then Amari [played by Simone Ashley], I wanted to write someone who commands respect. There's certain people who command respect no matter what their position is, and you find yourself wanting them to think you're cool even though they're 22 and you're like, "I just really need this person to think that I'm smart and interesting." Those were the three aspects of it.

MC: Speaking of assistants, there was backlash to a clip of Helen J. Shen's character, Jin Chao, who is Andy's assistant, with critics saying she was an Asian stereotype. Did you have any reaction to that?

ABM: She's a hero. That was one of the things Helen and I spoke about a lot was that people underestimate her. She's very fashionable. All the young people are fashionable in a very different way. And Jin's fashion is very vintage-y. She has the clips in her hair. The other person in the movie who has clips in his hair is Marc Jacobs. That's like a big trend. So she's kind of trendy in this, again, Gen Z way where she's thrifted stuff. She's a certain kind of hipster. I don't even think she lives in Brooklyn, I think she lives in Queens.

MC: Was it easy to slide back into the voices of Miranda, Andy, and Emily?

ABM: I just love those characters, they've never left me. Miranda is high status, always, so that's always fun to write. Emily's a nervous wreck, so that's really fun to write. I think Andy is a classic open-hearted heroine in many ways—and Annie is so funny. In working together on her, we found part of what's funny and fun about her is she's so enthusiastic and she gets excited. And there's just a tiny little line in the movie where she calls somebody and she says, "Just call me back. I'll be clutching my phone, clutching my phone." I feel like I'm so that person, that in a work context I should be a lot more unreachable than I am.

MC: In the years since the original there has been so much talk about how Andy's boyfriend Nate is the villain of that movie. How did you think about her love life in this one?

ABM: She's had a lot of relationships since then, but it's not her focus. She's stored her eggs, and she's footless and fancy-free. I wanted her to meet somebody awesome who appreciates her, takes the time to be a fan. But I wanted to show: What does it look like when Andy first meets somebody that she likes? Because she comes into the first movie with that relationship already established. I think just showing a woman in her 40s who's independent and has a lot going on, and when she meets a guy, what she cares about and what's attractive to her was very interesting to me.

MC: Anna Wintour, real-life parallel of Miranda, has now embraced her, appearing on the cover of Vogue with Streep. But initially, there was fear around the first movie.

ABM: Both of those reactions are odd to me because I was handed a book. I didn't know who Anna Wintour was. And then, the character that I wrote was not that. And then, as Meryl plays her is not that. So in my mind, they're not the same. But one of the things I was excited about in the first movie is that I love fashion and I wanted to bring it to people with a reality to it and some gravitas to it, and I think that worked and it showed people the artistry. So, I think the goals of the first movie align with what Anna's always done, which is to champion fashion as an art form. I think she's embraced that more than anything else. I think the main thing that Miranda and Anna have in common is a lack of personal vanity. I think there's things that they care about that are greater than themselves, and it just so happens that Anna's aligned with the movie.

MC: There's a moment in the film where Miranda and Andy talk about loving their job. What did including that mean for you?

ABM: I mean, really, my dad loved work and my dad always said to me, "You got to find something you love." A lot of women love what they do, just love it. I think it's very, very hard to be good at something if you don't love it. I think it's almost impossible, because you won't put in the hours doing the shitty stuff if you don't love it.

MC: Did you have any say in the cameos?

ABM: I wrote Law Roach into the script because I feel like he's such an important figure. There were two people who worked on [getting the cameos] full-time because all those people who are famous are really busy. There was a wishlist and we got some of those folks and some of them we didn't. I personally wanted to make sure everybody was having a good time when they were there.

MC: It took 20 years to make a sequel, but could you ever see yourself following these characters into the future?

ABM: I would follow them anywhere. The movie opens in two days, so let's not get ahead of ourselves, but let's see how it goes. They're fascinating people. We all owe a great debt to Lauren [Weisberger] for creating the characters. And she's a real sport. This movie doesn't use her sequel book, but she's been really great about it. She found a nerve, the title, this configuration of folks, there's a lot to mine there. I'm very grateful.

MC: Do you think Miranda really doesn't recognize Andy in that early scene?

ABM: She does not recognize her. I think what happens is as she's interacting with her, bells start to ring. And she's like, Oh, oh, that's that person. So that's why when she says, "I always knew," she does remember thinking, God, this girl was smart, but she's had probably 30 assistants since then since she has two at a time. It doesn't surprise me at all. That was a funny internet moment where people were like, "Is this movie about her having dementia?" Come on, guys. I am now the age that Miranda was in the first movie. With all due respect to people that I worked with 20 years ago, there are people I worked with in writer's rooms 20 years ago who would come up to me and…nothing. And I'm in my 50s and she's in her 70s, so I think she could be forgiven. But I do think you can see in the performance that she's slowly recognizing her. So I think people who are not tracking that are young.

Despite having access to one of Hollywood's most coveted costume archives, Hathaway has only worn custom or fresh-from-the-runway designs this month. Turns out, she was just saving her vintage pull for the right moment—and one of the press tour's final nights. After her Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon interview, Hathaway was all smiles wearing the opening coat in The Devil Wears Prada's post-makeover montage. (I'd be beaming too, if I pulled off a recreation this iconic.)

"Vogue" by Madonna seemed to be playing in Hathaway's head, while she flaunted its leopard-print collar, matching cuffs, and emerald wool, all still in pristine condition. Horizontal darting atop her torso, plus two columns of cascading, square-shaped buttons told fashion girls it was indeed the same 3.1 Phillip Lim pea coat. Even the curvature of the collar's leopard spots hadn't changed one bit.

Hathaway was the spitting image of her younger self, but stylist Erin Walsh's accessory swaps made it suitable for grown-up Andy. Walsh kept the statement sunglasses, except this Bulgari pair leaned more cat-eye than her circa-2006 Chanel shades. At the surface level, Mother Mary is a movie about a pop diva needing a dress. On the eve of her comeback performance, a Gaga-meets-Madonna music phenom (Anne Hathaway) asks her estranged best friend and collaborator, now a renowned designer with her own fashion house (Michaela Coel), for a custom look. Except David Lowery’s new A24-distributed melodrama—which cuts between Hathaway performing synth-y stadium bops, written and produced by Charli xcx, Jack Antonoff, and FKA twigs, to intense one-on-ones in a barn that Sam (Cole) repurposed as her atelier—is far more complex and heady than that.

"This is not a ghost story," the film’s poster reads, and yet it hinges around the concept of being haunted—performance becoming possession, wounds from a friendship breakup never fully healing. There are more obviously supernatural moments, too: an Ouija board, a séance with scissors, and Mother Mary’s final exorcism, where an otherworldly spirit, depicted as a sheet of diaphanous red fabric, trickles out of Hathaway's body.

Sam does end up making the titular pop star a new dress out of that fabric-ghost. But as costume designer Bina Daigeler explains over Zoom, the fashion-centered plot supports a more relationship-driven narrative, where an artist burnt out from selling her soul to the stage turns to the only person who can help her. "It's really a psychological story told through the costume design," says Daigeler. "The film's journey is a very intense and beautiful one, of Mother Mary wanting to find herself again, and the fashion needed to capture David’s vision."

Beyond the immediate splendor of Daigeler’s work, the costuming is incredibly effective at grounding the abstract, at times inscrutable, fantasy. (Lowery acknowledges this head-on: "These metaphors are exhausting," Hathaway says to Cole twenty minutes in.) Thigh-high boots and bejeweled bodysuits translate the image of a Taylor Swift-esque pop star. (Lowery told Empire that Swift's Reputation concert movie served as inspiration for the film.) Halo headpieces and Joan of Arc-inspired armor position Mother Mary as an angelic martyr. In effect, the movie’s costuming becomes the key to making sense of its surrealism.

Ahead of Mother Mary’s limited United States theatrical release on April 17 and nationwide expansion on April 24, Marie Claire spoke with Daigeler to unpack all the meaning in the film's fashion. Here, we take a deep dive into Mother Mary’s stage costumes, Sam’s fictional atelier, and the symbolism behind that final dress.

Marie Claire: Let’s start with Mother Mary’s concert outfits. How did you go about designing them?

I had a lot of influences: Taylor Swift, obviously, Dua Lipa, and Beyoncé. But I mostly wanted what she wears on stage to reflect the lyrics and what that moment in her life, in the movie, was. When she performs "Dark Cradle", she’s in all black. In the scene of "Holy Spirit," she has a completely different expression, with light fabrics, sparkles, and embroidery.

Haloes are also a signature of Mother Mary’s stage persona. How did you approach designing the headpieces to fit with her career progression?

I drew a lot of inspiration from period paintings and medieval artwork, which are very angelic and spiritual. The haloes started very simply. You actually do see Mary’s first headpiece, a spiky, punk-styled one, in a brief scene in Sam’s studio, when [she] finds an old photo of the two of them. That's when her halo era started—when she started as an artist, really—and it all came from Sam.

As Mary's career progressed, the haloes developed and became much more designed. We added a lot of glam, bling, Swarovski crystals, and stars to emphasize that they became her costume. Those were a challenge because Annie [Hathaway] dances a lot, so we needed to make sure she could really move in them.

Then, there’s the last halo in her final performance, and that scene is really all about the headpiece. Mary really wants to get rid of this image of her as an angel-like figure, so she can find herself again. She's able to rip her outfit off, but removing the headpiece is nearly impossible. It’s uncomfortable, and it snags on her hair. But then she does.

How did you create a fully fleshed-out yet fictional fashion house for Sam?

That was a big challenge. I was really nervous about it because I thought, 'Oh my God, I have to do all these pop star costumes, and on top of that, I have to create a brand for a fashion designer!' I researched a lot about Black designers—there aren’t many in luxury fashion, which is disappointing, and made research difficult—as well as African fashion. I read magazines and books about the journeys of Black designers, like The New Black Vanguard. The British fashion designer, Dilara Findikoglu, was another reference I returned to.

I also worked closely with Michaela Cole, and we agreed that [Sam] would make pieces with lots of color and that were quite dramatic. We actually made enough pieces for a full collection and shot a scene of her fashion show, which was ultimately cut, but the process helped me understand what Sam’s fashion house would look like.

Mary’s final dress, which is a real Iris van Herpen dress, is entirely based on pleats, so we knew to incorporate pleats as a theme for Sam. David, Michaela, and I are also obsessed with the plissé process, so we wanted to show Sam pleating the red fabric before it became the end dress.

Speaking of: Tell me about connecting with Iris van Herpen, and why you chose that specific dress.

BD: David had [IvH] in his mind when he was writing the story, because he is just fascinated by her career, everything she’s achieved, and what she does. When I came on board, I was absolutely thrilled because I’ve always wanted to do something with her and to see her process. David and I went to Amsterdam to meet with Iris, and she had prepared several different ideas for us. We chose that final dress, a beautiful, deep red one that drapes in waves around the body, because we knew it was perfect for our project.

Mother Mary doesn't want to have another stage costume that's all about the costume. She wants something intimate that's about her and shows her inner side and emotions. We didn't choose the most stunning dress; we chose one that was symmetrical and focused, that underlined all of Mother Mary's beauty, accompanied her career, and the development of her character, because that's the important part. That dress gives her clarity, humanity, and lets her be who she is. You look at the person, not at this big costume.

Originally, Mary tells Sam she wants her dress to be any "color but red." What’s the significance of the final dress being red?

I actually didn’t approach [red] as a theme in the fashion; it was more of an emotional element. Red is blood and flesh, and it's a very spiritual, powerful color. It was more about that, because, again, our idea was that the dress needed to show the emotions behind the spirit, the obsession. It's her inner self on the outside.

What was your favorite aspect of working on Mother Mary’s costuming?

The collaboration. To achieve everything we wanted, the costumes required very intense teamwork. I worked closely with David, and we had a very intense, creative work relationship and beautiful process. We both had strong intuitions about where we wanted the fashion to go and what we wanted to do together. Annie [Hathaway] and I spoke all the time; she was always so excited to come to the fittings and see what her new stage costumes would be. She also had to dance and move a lot in them, so we needed to collaborate with the choreographer and the stage and production design team. Everything felt very personal. Sometimes I actually felt like I was Sam: I really was creating something special just for Annie.

(The Interstellar actor chose the Valentino equivalent of Chanel cap-toe heels: the famous Rockstud stilettos in white with yellow gold studs.)

It's been a minute since we've seen Streep in Chanel. Both the medium and large Borsetto Boston bags feature two elongated shoulder straps with a rectangular, zip-top tote sculpted from soft leather, suede, or monogrammed GG canvas. There's also a crossbody strap, but most Gucci girls—including Anne Hathaway—leave it at home.

The four-figure design may be brand new, but it's steeped in the label's legacy. It wouldn't be Gucci's take on the east-west trend without the iconic red-and-green "Web" stripe and the 73-year-old horsebit emblem. Both motifs were hot ticket items when they debuted, and during Tom Ford's '90s tenure as creative director. But why enlist in a Ford-era, secondhand bidding war when Demna blended the best of both worlds—noughties nostalgia and brand-new textiles—into one hero piece?

Waist-length mermaid waves were all over the Grammys red carpet earlier this month, as seen on stars like Kehlani and Zara Larsson, and even Sydney Sweeney, who debuted a wavy bob at AFI Festival in October, ditched her short hair in favor of long extensions with loose curls while ringing the bell at the New York Stock Exchange this week.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 doesn't hit theaters until May 1, but if it was up to me, Anne Hathaway's press tour would begin at New York Fashion Week. At Ralph Lauren's Fall 2026 show, Hathaway embarked on a new, perhaps method fashion "adventure" while wearing her sheerest dress in years. Her plus-one? A feather boa.

There's a chance stylist Erin Walsh got ahold of the label's show notes early. "I love the adventure of fashion," Lauren wrote. "My Fall 2026 collection is inspired by that kind of renegade spirit and the confidence of a woman who will wear it in her own personal way." Hathaway clearly understood the assignment, as proven by her uncharacteristically transparent gown. Diagonal strands of tiered, ruffled lace cascaded from the high halter neck, past peekaboo black underwear, and onto an elongated train.

Leaning into the dress's drama, Hathaway draped a feather boa-turned-coat around her elbows. The chocolate brown feathers juxtaposed her black gown just enough, without completely stealing the show. Small hoop earrings, diamond earrings, and chainlink bracelets—all in yellow gold—didn't distract from the dress's sheerness, either.

Once Hathaway posed without the boa, the dress's Fall 2025 origins became clear. Look 44 debuted on the Ralph Lauren runway this time last year. Hathaway's always had an on-again off-again relationship with naked dressing. Her sheer dresses follow no schedule or season. That's not to say she's a novice; she first went braless in 2003 at the School of Rock premiere. Over the years, her see-through looks have become less and less revealing. See her couture Valentino gown at the 2013 Met Gala, for proof. (A skin-colored slip lined the entire long-sleeve look.)

The last time she pulled off this transparent of an "adventure" was at the 2023 Berlin International Film Festival. Valentino dressed her again, this time in polka-dotted mesh alongside a grid made of leather bows. Even so, a nude bodysuit peeked out from beneath the illusion fabric.

In addition to pushing her sartorial boundaries, Hathaway did go method at the Ralph Lauren show. Last July, the actor filmed The Devil Wears Prada 2 in a brown suede blazer from Ralph Lauren Purple Label, plus a Polo Ralph Lauren cable-knit sweater.

The set was as far from sheer as it gets, making it more aligned with Hathaway's personal style. Here's hoping her Ralph Lauren method moments continue as the press tour ramps up.

Greetings from snowy Denmark! It’s Halie, back to writing The A-List Edit after a packed week of Copenhagen Fashion Week runways. Diving back into the international style circuit felt like the right time to test a layering technique I see well-dressed Danes wearing every time I visit—and that I’ve noticed stateside A-listers warming up to once again. Brace yourselves: Dresses and skirts layered over pants are very much back. But trust me, you can pull them off.

I know this will trigger memories of cringy, early-aughts Disney Channel red carpets for my fellow millennials. Fear not. The 2026 way to double up on lower layers isn’t taking notes from 2006.

These days, Anne Hathaway, Kendall Jenner, and Jennifer Lawrence are instead trying Scandi-inspired sets that combine longer, fluid skirts, hitting at about the knee, with a coordinating trouser. Kaia Gerber has used several Los Angeles pap walks expressly for modeling pants with a skirt sewn into the waistband.

The key, reaffirmed by nearly every runway show I’ve watched this week (and more), is sticking to similar color stories for the skirt and trousers—and not going too overboard with the rest of your styling. On top, all you really need is a coordinating crewneck sweater (for winter, like Hathaway’s) or a plain tee (like Lawrence’s, for spring and summer). Celebs tend to mix and match their own pieces, but a lot of designers jumping on the trend have done the layering for us already.

How I Style It

I checked into my fashion week HQ (1Hotel Copenhagen—very close to the city’s best vintage, for my fellow shopaholics-slash-travelers) with a single objective: pull off this trend like a local (or a recent celebrity convert). As a skirt-over-pants novice, I went for a hybrid option from COS that stacked my separates for me. All I had to do was choose a complementary sweater and shoes that would stand out in the slush.

It’s a little bit of extra fabric, but it’s so much more interesting than plain pants. A guest making her way to the elevator while I was snapping photos said she wanted a pair, so it's safe to say this look works. Once I started dashing between shows, I added an oversize faux fur coat and a knitted balaclava: two street style staples in this part of the fashion world.

When I get home, I’m planning to double-dip for New York Fashion Week—this time by stacking one of my favorite pleated skirts over a wide-leg trouser like the ones below. I think my counterparts from LA to Copenhagen would approve.

Following a biologist/middle school teacher (Ryan Gosling) who's thrust on a dangerous mission in outer space to save the Earth, it becomes an unlikely friendship story between him and an alien who's set out to save his own planet. Gosling brings the charm, laughs abound, and you'll realize that you never knew you could feel so much for a rock.

When the District 12 victor was forced to fight to the death, he was selected during the Second Quarter Quell, or when each Panem district had to submit double the number of tributes. The hype for this franchise blockbuster is real: Fans have been very vocal about how pleased they are with the casting—including A-listers like Elle Fanning, Jesse Plemons, and Kieran Culkin as younger versions of key characters Effie Trinket, Plutarch Heavensbee, and Caesar Flickerman, respectively. Not only that, just as the first film was a breakout moment for Jennifer Lawrence (who’s set to return in a cameo appearance), it should be a star-making role for newcomer Joseph Zada as young Haymitch.

'The Adventures of Cliff Booth'

Starring: Brad Pitt, Scott Caan, Elizabeth Debicki, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Carla Gugino, and Timothy Olyphant

Why it’s worth seeing: Brad Pitt won an Oscar for playing ‘70s stuntman Cliff Booth in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Revisiting the character and New Hollywood onscreen would be exciting enough. This time around, though, The Adventures of Cliff Booth will be directed by David Fincher, with a script from Tarantino, setting the stage for an action-packed collaboration between two of the most acclaimed directors working today.

In November, Ariana Grande' took home the trophy for the Oldest Vintage Look of 2025: a circa-1952 Gilbert Adrian ballgown at the Wicked: For Good London premiere, crafted by The Wizard of Oz costume designer himself. But in terms of the year's best vintage looks overall, selects stretched far beyond the yellow brick road.

By the time she headed out for a soirée at New York City's Zero Bond, Hathaway was a walking tutorial in how to style capri pants.

This outfit change resonates with a fashion editor like me for two reasons. First, it allowed Hathaway to make at least half of her red carpet look last beyond the Met Steps. Her custom button-up just needed a more relaxed counterpart to take on the Met Gala after-parties, and flexible capri pants delivered in spades without looking any less elegant. Sometimes, being the best-dressed is taking the elegantly understated route.

Second, it gives another proof-of-concept for the capri pants trend's resurgence. Celebrities from Hailey Bieber to Zoë Kravitz have lately ditched their Levi's 501s for tight-hugging pedal pushers. More often than not, they've styled their test-drives with Miu Miu windbreakers and down-to-earth ballet sneakers. Hathaway is one of the few who's championed the look as party-wear. She follows the footsteps of Bella Hadid, who paired a vintage Fendi bag with a capri jumpsuit for her sister Gigi's 30th birthday earlier this spring.

I've written about the capri pants trend before with some skepticism. (The length always struck me as a little old-fashioned, until I saw the modern ways it could be styled.) Now, I have yet another template to copy alongside Zendaya's rainy-day, morning-after outfit. Anne Hathaway's Met Gala skirt-alternative might be the most pleasant surprise of the entire night: a relatable look anyone can wear beyond fashion's biggest night.
