As I currently look outside my window at an actual blizzard, my mind is far from New York City. I'm mentally planning my spring getaway to somewhere warm and sunny—and all the vacation outfits I'd bring. For me, half the fun in taking a trip is packing for it. If I can't be on the beach right this second, at least I can pretend with my online shopping cart.

A TikTok recently brought Anthropologie's resort wear section to my attention, and I haven't stopped thinking about it since. The retailer carries warm-weather finds from host of brands, and, last year, it launched an in-house line called Celandine that's essentially my dream vacation wardrobe. It's filled with breezy dresses in playful colors and prints, matching sets for easy styling, and fun beaded tops for day-to-night outfits.

I need to confess something: for someone who works in fashion, I spend an impressive amount of time in sweatpants. There’s a style reason, too. A friend once told me, "Getting dressed is the first creative decision you make in a day," and that line has stayed lodged in my head ever since. Because it’s true: when you get dressed on purpose—even for a day that technically doesn’t require it—you’re flexing your personal style muscles. Sometimes that choice gives you the exact amount of serotonin needed to kick off a killer day.

But here’s the thing, I don’t want "hard pants" (except for special occasions). I want pants that feel like sweats, but look like I made a decision. The sweet spot is soft tailoring and smart details: a forgiving waistband, a cut that skims rather than clings, fabric that drapes, and silhouettes that read polished even if the only commute on the agenda is from the bed to my laptop.

I’ve been test-driving this goal for a few weeks, and I keep coming back to the same hero pair: red track pants I bought from Anthropologie last year (now, sadly, sold out). They’re stretchy, comfortable, and—my personal north star—wrinkle-resistant. Track pants have been “back” for a while, but I finally understand the hold they have on people: they’re practical, a little sporty, and genuinely chic when you style them with contrast. I recommend opting for vintage or faux options. Whether you wear a fur stole, scarf, or cape atop a wool peacoat or leather bomber, you can rewear this accessory for years to come. Opt for a complementary neutral shade if you're someone who wears a lot of black, like me.

A Leather Glove in a Fun Color

To the color adverse, hear me out: color can be fun in doses, especially for winter accessories. I love the way a buttery cognac, burgundy, or olive green glove looks with a mostly neutral wardrobe.

An Interesting Belt

"The coat is the outfit" is my daily winter mantra. With that said, a belt is the easiest yet most exciting way to add interest to the coat you always reach for. Again, as someone who wears mostly black, I opt for belts that add texture or hardware to an otherwise flat outerwear forward look. Try a grommet or studded belt over a fur jacket (à la Carrie Bradshaw in the Sex and the City movie) or a feather or tassel belt over a structured car coat.

A Brooch

I have a penchant for sourcing vintage brooches, so it was only a matter of time before I found a way to incorporate one into my weekly outfit rotation. Brooches with onyx, citrine, or rhinestones always catch my eye and look great on the lapel of a wool coat.

While scrolling through TikTok a few days ago, I came across a video of a young woman showcasing her latest summer dress find. In it, she styled a striped black-and-white number that featured pin-tuck detailing at the waist and delicate buttons down the front. A few eager taps later, I discovered what is currently the summer work outfit must-have from Anthropologie—a Tuckernuck Jackie dress alternative for summer 2025 office style.

The viral work dress, officially known as The Tobie Shirt Dress, is from the brand Exquise and was introduced on Anthropologie’s site in February 2024. Despite being over a year into its tenure, this breathable cotton-poplin piece, exclusive to the retailer and retails for $198, has garnered a following among young professionals on TikTok. A quick search for it on the app yields thousands of videos, each showcasing women preparing for their internships and corporate full-time positions while wearing it.

But don't just take my word for it. “Tobie is officially an Anthro icon,” Julie Stampone, Anthropologie’s merchandising manager for dresses, tells Marie Claire over email. “The response has been overwhelmingly positive.”

The original dress’s popularity has led to the creation of an entire collection of Tobie-fied pieces, including a midi dress, a linen version, one with a shorter hemline, a short-sleeved button-down top, and a jumpsuit. All of these are seemingly just as popular online as the original.

The mini style is a longtime favorite of Marie Claire’s associate editor, Brooke Knappenberger. “I see so many women wearing it on the street,” she gushes. “It’s literally everywhere.” She owns the linen edition in a rich chocolate brown hue, making it the perfect summer neutral dress.

Knappenberger—and the hundreds of fans online, no doubt—loves the Tobie for its comfort. This is by design, says Stampone. “This versatile dress moves effortlessly from desk to dinner,” she says. Additionally, it comes in three inclusive size ranges, including one for petites. If you needed any more proof of concept, there is only one non-Tobie piece available from Exquise on Anthropologie's site. It has officially taken over.

It's often a challenge to find takes on spring's biggest fashion trends in every size, at every store. More often than not, plus-sizes (defined roughly as a US14 and up) are sequestered to separate boutiques, sold online-only, or not carried at all. This is all despite the average American woman wearing a size 18, and 68% of women wearing a size 14 or above. But this spring, fashion's most size-inclusive brand, Universal Standard, is collaborating with Anthropologie on a solution—at least for the current season.

13 of Universal Standard's best-selling pieces are now available at Anthropologie, with an emphasis on plus-sizes (14–24) and rising spring trends. Nuuly, Anthropologie's sister rental service, will also offer select pieces in sizes 00–24 and denim in sizes 00–40.

The collection grafts vibrant prints and patterns Anthropologie is known for on to Universal Standard's curve-friendly sizing. (Each item was first designed for a US18—a medium in Universal Standard's size system.) Trends with runway and street style approval, from barrel-leg jeans to oversize button-up shirts and bias-cut dresses, are all present and accounted for.

At a time when many retailers are scaling back their plus-size and size-inclusive offerings, a team-up between Universal Standard and Anthropologie is a refreshing antidote to the status quo. The latter brand is also a known champion for inclusive shopping: Last year, Anthropologie launched its debut adaptive line for women with disabilities.

While the collection is a spring capsule, one has to hope it becomes a sign of a permanent investment in an all-are-welcome shopping philosophy.

From ruffled dresses and trendy crochet tops to airy cargo pants and sheer styles, these pieces guarantee a new look for fall without breaking your budget. It's a sale you could spend hours poring over, which is exactly what I did to make your shopping easier. Nashville-based lifestyle influencer April Lockhart proudly identifies as a "fashion girlie." She finds shopping and styling "therapeutic" and has built an audience of more than 140,000 followers by sharing clips of her colorful outfits on Instagram and TikTok. Lockhart was also born with a limb difference, and fully expressing her personal style sometimes comes with compromises.

"Seeing myself in those spheres was always missing," Lockhart tells Marie Claire. The brands she aspired to shop didn't reflect her identity back at her in advertising or required extra tailoring to be wearable. Adaptive fashion, or items designed specifically for people with disabilities, didn't offer a viable solution for someone who says she prioritizes aesthetics over function. "I never shopped adaptive, because style always came first, and if we’re honest, adaptive style has consistently fallen flat," she says.

Bri Scalesse, a model who's used a wheelchair since she was six years old, similarly found that adaptive pieces rarely catered to her sense of style—to the degree that she didn't wear them growing up. While she could find ways to shop strategically and make her favorite brands "work" for her, "what was always missing was the visual representation and voices of disabled people throughout the fashion industry and process," she says. "I longed to see a disabled body like mine in ads and magazines."

Both women are now making what they've always wanted to see available to other shoppers through an inclusivity-minded expansion at Anthropologie. Along with models and creators Maya Moore and Allison Lang, the pair are both faces of the retailer's first adaptive pieces, available online today.

Anthropologie is entering the adaptive fashion chat with eight pieces created through a year-long process of research and product development. From the $48 button-up Andie T-shirt to the $148 Bettina dress, each item takes a pre-existing Anthropologie bestseller and modifies it with proportions, closures, and details enhancing its comfort-factor for people with disabilities. The overall look is the exact same as Anthro's standard boho-chic fare; the increased accessibility is a notable innovation.

Adaptive designs sold at major retailers are a welcome addition to a large, and largely overlooked, style cohort. While some studies valued the total market for adult adaptive clothing in the United States at $238 million last year, the category isn't nearly as commonly produced as plus, petite, or tall sizes. Few retailers have pieces catered to all abilities that also take major trends and personal style into consideration. (A cursory Google search of "adaptive clothing" will mostly surface scrub-like matching sets, for example.)

The expansion, like Anthropologie's 2019 move into plus-sizes, was informed primarily by underrepresented shoppers who requested it, according to Anthropologie Women's chief merchandising officer Holly Thrasher. To "thoughtfully" turn feedback into a more inclusive repertoire, the brand looked inside (to URBN Adapt ERG, an in-house resource group promoting accessibility and inclusivity) and outside (to experts like Lucy Jones, the founder and CEO of adaptive label FFORA) for insight. "The most common request was for a line that seamlessly integrates style and functionality, prioritizing comfort and ease of wear," Thrasher says.

Richa Srivastava, chief creative officer of women's concept and design, explains that the adaptive modifications improved the experience of taking each Anthro staple on and off, as well as wearing it all day long. Take the Colette pant for example. Just like the standard design, the adaptive version has a high-rise waist and a cropped flare hem. But to make the pants more comfortable for wheelchair users, Anthropologie took a three-fold approach. "We adjusted the rise to better suit someone seated, eliminated back pockets to reduce bulkiness when sitting, and incorporated features like magnetic snap closures, zipper openings along pant inseams, as well as tabs and snaps for customizable length adjustments," Srivastava explains.

One piece of design feedback from the disability community became the team's design North Star, according to Srivastava. Shoppers who use a wheelchair or a prosthetic limb don't necessarily want styles exclusive to them; they want to be included in brands' versatile, cool lineups from the beginning.

"What often doesn’t feel right about adaptive wear is that it is its own separate line with styles that are not comparable to the non-adaptive lines," Scalesse says. "I cannot express how much I love that Anthropologie took some of its best-selling pieces and made them adaptive."

Lockhart agrees that the designs strike a balance she hasn't found in fashion before. They're "extra comfortable and a lot easier to put on compared to other pieces I own, but [they] made me feel put together, powerful, me."

Anthropologie is also displaying its pieces with "adaptive features" right next to its other size categories, not hiding them somewhere else on the site. "For that to be seen by everyone shopping Anthro is pretty major for the disabled community," Lockhart says. "It doesn’t exclude us to a separate collection page, it’s not creating new product that they 'think' disabled people might want—this is truly inclusive."

What this launch isn't is a one-and-done release. Eight pieces alone can't cover every need of every individual or fully compare to the hundreds of options available in standard sizing on the rest of Anthropologie's website. Still, it's a start. "[T]hey’ve committed to this just being step one," Lockhart says. "It doesn’t have to be perfect to be progress."

Thrasher, the Anthropologie executive, hopes that the line can be a "positive example" to other brands. An inclusivity blueprint can manifest both in the products made and in the people wearing them, Scalesse notes. "I don’t think every brand has to make one-time adaptive lines, but instead should include disabled people in the process in front of and behind the camera, always."

"My dream would be that other brands take note and start to think of ways to simply make the clothes they’re already making more universal," Lockhart says. "The disabled community loves fashion just like the rest of the fashion world. They don’t want separate collections, they just want to buy the clothes they normally buy from the retailers they love." Fashion girlies come in all shapes, sizes, and abilities. They all deserve the same options when they're getting dressed.
