It's the end of an era...and not just the Eras Tour. On Tuesday, Dec. 3, People reported that Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan have gone their separate ways after a year of dating.

Apparently their busy careers were a major factor in their decision to "take a break," with an inside source telling the outlet, "They are both young and career-focused, so they've decided to take a break."

Carpenter and Keoghan have not yet made a statement regarding the split.

The Irish actor and "Espresso" singer were first spotted together in December 2023, and they made their red carpet debut as a couple at the 2024 Met Gala in May.

Keoghan has been a strong supporter of Carpenter's music over the past year, having traveled to Singapore when she opened for Taylor Swift during the Eras Tour. The Saltburn star also went on to star in Carpenter's "Please, Please, Please" video this summer (a truly iconic performance, if I do say so myself).

The pop star's song "Bed Chem" is widely believed to be about Keoghan, referencing a "thick accent" and being in different time zones.

However, their "break" might not come as a massive surprise to many fans. Split rumors swirled over the summer, with a source telling People in August that the two were "on and off."

The singer herself seemingly admitted that their relationship status was unclear when asked by Rolling Stone if she considered Keoghan to be her boyfriend. ""How do I skirt around this question?” Carpenter replied during the June interview.

“The [dating] pool is the pool, and when you meet people that feel authentic and are so brilliant and amazing in every way, that’s what you do," she continued. "Obviously, I write songs about exactly how I feel, so I guess I can’t be so surprised that people are interested in who and what those songs are about. That’s something that comes with the territory.”

As for whether their split is a Ross and Rachel break or an actual break, watch this space.

The "Espresso" singer and Saltburn actor also haven't been shy about their romance, and have been spotted together at public events on several occasions, including at the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party, and at the Met Gala, which is arguably the most public event of all.

TBH, I just hope they're having fun, whatever their relationship status!

Sabrina Carpenter has somehow gotten more iconic overnight, if you can believe it.

The singerrrr just released her new single "Please Please Please," as well as the accompanying music video, and I can't decide whether the lyrics or her choice of casting is the most badass part of all this.

The song is about dating someone new, and her friends warning her about red flags, and in the lyrics she begs said love interest to not "embarrass me, motherf***er."

Elsewhere, she sings, "I promise 'em that you're different and everyone makes mistakes / But just don't / I heard that you're an actor, so act like a stand-up guy / Whatever devil's inside you, don't let him out tonight / I tell them it's just your culture and everyone rolls their eyes" (via Genius).

While fans would have made the link between the lyrics—which Carpenter wrote herself, with a little help from Taylor Swift's producer/bestie Jack Antonoff—and the singer's boyfriend Barry Keoghan regardless, the "Espresso" hitmaker took the guessing out of the game by literally casting the Irish actor in her music video.

In it, Carpenter and Keoghan's characters meet in jail, just as she is being let out and he is being taken in. Then throughout the video, Keoghan engages in a bunch of unsavory behavior, such as getting into a fight with some shady characters and stealing a bunch of money, as Carpenter's friends look on disapprovingly.

Obviously, fans were entirely obsessed with everything about this. When Keoghan posted a promo for the video on Instagram, everyone lost their damn minds.

"best hard launch i've ever seen," wrote the official Tinder account.

"I have to sit down," commented someone else.

"THE GASP I GUSPED," said another.

"For the love of God please never break up," begged someone else.

With over 2.5 million views on the music video at time of writing, "Please Please Please" is already a hit. But obviously, it's going to be hard to beat "Espresso," which has climbed all of the charts, and counts celebrity fans including Adele and Kate Hudson—not to mention the lyrics have graced all your friends' Instagram captions ever since it came out.

As for Carpenter and Keoghan, they confirmed their relationship earlier this year, and have been publicly thirsting over each other ever since. Ah, young love!

Some attendees at tonight’s Met Gala arrived as a duo, but many women—like co-chairs Jennifer Lopez and Zendaya, for example—walked the carpet without their significant others (Ben Affleck and Tom Holland, respectively).

Appearing together on fashion’s most celebrated night makes sense for the couple, who met last September at Givenchy’s spring 2024 show in Paris. (Clearly, they’re both lovers of fashion.) It took three more months for the pair to be photographed together in December in Los Angeles on a dinner date, and they were seen again the next month, again at dinner; their first official public appearance together happened in February at W magazine’s Grammys afterparty, even though they walked the red carpet separately.

Like the trailblazer known as Travis Kelce before him, Keoghan went international to support his girlfriend on tour, as Carpenter has served as the loyal opening act on Taylor Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour. Kelce has seen the tour on four continents and possibly counting (Swift resumes the tour in Europe in a matter of days), and Keoghan swung through Singapore to see Carpenter perform there when the tour made its stops there (a total of six, ranging from March 2 to March 9). That same month, Keoghan pulled another Kelce-style boyfriend move, sporting a friendship bracelet with Carpenter’s name on it at an Academy Awards dinner. He was also on hand as his girlfriend performed at Coachella weekend one in April, filming her as she took the stage. Just as Keoghan pulled a Kelce or two in the name of love, Carpenter pulled a Swift, changing the lyrics at the end of her song “Nonsense” during her Coachella set to pay homage to “one of Keoghan’s most infamous scenes in Saltburn, singing, ‘Made his knees so weak, he had to spread mine / He’s drinkin’ my bathwater like it’s red wine,’” Vogue reports, adding that the lyric incited “blood-curdling screams from the audience,” naturally.

Last month, Keoghan also not-so-subtly thirsted over Carpenter’s Skims campaign, adding further fuel to the already hot rumors of their romance.

But it's not official until there's a friendship bracelet involved, as Swift and Travis Kelce demonstrated. At an Academy Awards dinner in Los Angeles with Louis Vuitton and W magazine, Keoghan was spotted wearing a beaded friendship bracelet spelling out “Sabrina.”

Despite seeming to keep their relationship private, Carpenter opened up to Cosmopolitan about her most important sex tip: "Be smart, use protection."

"I mean, at the end of the day, my whole thing right now is, whatever you do, don’t get pregnant," Carpenter explained. "That’s the way I’m living my life. So that’s my sex tip. Be smart. Use protection."

She also discussed how she might be perceived as overtly sexual, thanks to her touring outfits, the famous "Feather" music video, and now this Skims campaign, but she actually is more prudish than people would expect. "But, in a real way, my advice is: Do whatever feels most comfortable to you," she said. "You can be curious and ask questions, but a lot of it is just going to be you learning yourself. So do whatever makes you feel the most comfortable and safe. Boring answer."

The Saltburn star was filmed watching Sabrina Carpenter perform on Sunday's Singapore stop of Taylor Swift's Eras tour. Fan footage from the concert shows Keoghan positively grinning as he watches Carpenter sing her hit "Nonsense," before cheering along with the rest of the crowd. The duo was later seen in the show's VIP tent together, along with Lisa from Blackpink, TMZ notes.

Well, it seems we can finally put the rumors about Barry Keoghan and Sabrina Carpenter to rest... because they've all but confirmed it!

The young couple were spotted on a date night in West Hollywood, where they went to have a romantic dinner at Delilah.

The 31-year-old Saltburn actor and 24-year-old singer couldn't stop grinning as they left dinner and headed to Ysabel Lounge to continue their presumed date night.

Carpenter looked as gorgeous as always in a sleeveless black mini dress and matching knee-high boots. It's fun to see that her stage style matches her street style, as she often performs in mini dresses and high boots as well. She finished the look with a black handbag and a black leather jacket.

Keoghan kept it casual in a red jacket, white t-shirt, olive green trousers, and white sneakers.

The couple had been spotted together a few times before, but this is the first time they could be clearly seen on a date together.

Keoghan and his long-term girlfriend Alyson Kierans split 15 months after welcoming their first child together, Brando. The couple appears to be on good terms, as he described Kierans as "an incredible mother" to GQ.

As for Carpenter, she has previously been linked to Shawn Mendes and Joshua Bassett. It's believed that her relationship with Bassett inspired Olivia Rodrigo's breakout hit "Driver's License," and the drama surrounding this led Carpenter to write "because I liked a boy."

I'm curious whether we can expect any songs about Keoghan on her next album, as it's been confirmed that this is on the way!

In a conversation with Stranger Things star Maya Hawke for Interview Magazine, Carpenter admitted that she is working on her sixth studio album. Hawke asked, “Are you working on another album?” to which Carpenter replied, “I am.”

It’s Barry Keoghan’s moment—if you’ve seen Saltburn, you understand—and the actor is giving another of our favorites, Timothée Chalamet, a run for his money on the red carpet when it comes to bold looks.

Keoghan wore a white crop top and a whole lot of biceps to the L.A. premiere of his latest project, the Apple TV+ limited series Masters of the Air. The off-white sleeveless suit set is from Dolce & Gabbana and featured a double-breasted V-neck crop top and trousers. To accessorize, Keoghan “wore a single, delicate gold drop-chain around his neck,” People reports. “A pair of bracelets appeared on one wrist, while he donned a watch on the other. The actors completed his red carpet look with a pair of black Christian Louboutin shoes.”

Keoghan costarred with Jacob Elordi in Saltburn; Elordi also played Elvis Presley last year in the film Priscilla, about Presley’s wife of the same name. In Masters of the Air, Keoghan stars alongside another Elvis, Austin Butler, who was nominated for an Academy Award for his portrayal of Presley in the eponymous biopic Elvis. 

In the series, Keoghan stars as a World War II fighter pilot alongside Butler, with whom he sparred with off-screen, he told GQ. Butler “was pretty good,” Keoghan said, adding that he taught Butler some tricks. “I learned him how to box,” he added.

Masters of the Air allowed Keoghan to fulfill a long-held dream: “I always wanted to play a pilot,” he said, adding that he was also inspired by his previous role in Christopher Nolan’s war drama Dunkirk. 

It has been a busy week in fashion for Keoghan, who wore Louis Vuitton to the Golden Globes a week ago. He was nominated for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture—Drama for his show-stopping role in Saltburn. The Globes outfit was from the fashion house’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection, and he paired it with numerous accessories, including a Tiffany & Co. earring.
