A lot has changed since then, and for tonight's theme, she went a completely different direction, wearing sheer nude Olivier Rousteing gown embellished with silver crystals that were applied in the shape of a skeleton. She also wore soft glam this time around, and instead of the straight look, she wore her hair in long, crimped waves underneath a large silver headpiece that matched her gown.

We've waited ten years to see Beyoncé's official return to the Met Gala, and just as I suspected, her look for the night didn't disappoint at all. Her mermaid waves were the work of her longtime hairstylist, Neal Farinah, who pulled the look together using products from Cécred's new styling collection. "We wanted to up the drama for this big night," Farinah said. "These ethereal waves are a celebration of texture, making sure the hair had definition but wasn’t confined."

Of course, her big return was a family affair. She attended alongside her husband, Jay-Z, and daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, who looked nearly identical to her in matching honey blonde mermaid waves and stunning, white bubble dress. “It feels surreal because my daughter’s here,” the artist told Vogue on the red carpet. “It’s incredible to be able to share it with her.”

On November 22, the superstar made an appearance at the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Las Vegas, with her husband, Jay-Z, by her side. Absolutely stunning fashions aside (this is going to be such a fun archival moment for her children to pull from in the future), what really caught my attention was her curly afro.

Courtesy of her go-to hairstylist, Neil Farinah, Carter’s hair appeared to be in its natural state, a rare appearance since the singer mostly wears protective styles when she works. “VEGAS: Au Natural for F1,” he captioned an Instagram photo of her from the day, where the singer posed in front of a step-and-repeat.

For the event, her curls were out and unencumbered, showcasing her gorgeous honey-blonde hair color. She later switched things up by adding a hat and drenching her strands for a wet-hair moment, which she paired with a red Ferrari jumpsuit, likely in honor of Lewis Hamilton, with whom she did a lap on the track earlier in the evening.

Cynthia Erivo put down her Elphaba-themed Wicked premiere looks for Formula 1 method dressing. The Oscar nominee arrived at the Las Vegas Grand Prix looking ready to race in a distressed jacket and matching pants. Beyoncé will never RSVP "no" to a Destiny's Child reunion. On November 6, a dripping-in-diamonds Beyoncé rooted for Kelly Rowland on the opening night of Brandy and Monica's "The Boy Is Mine" tour.

Rowland is considered a "special guest" on the entire 27-city tour, performing the girl group's hits like "Soldier," "Cater 2 U," and "So Good." Beyoncé (presumably) sang along from backstage dressed in a menswear-inspired suit set. On top, she left a white button-down partially undone, alongside a loosened bowtie. She tucked the long-sleeve into high-rise black trousers, while the back dangled freely, tail coat style. Opting out of an actual blazer ensured her concert outfit remained casual and chic.

Photo ops with her mother, Tina Knowles and Rowland kept the Grammy winner's stilettos and handbag a secret. However, Beyoncé's statement Messika sparklers were impossible to miss.

Beyoncé has been Tiffany & Co.'s house ambassador since 2021, hence her unlimited access to the esteemed label's catalog. (Tiffany & Co. even acted as the Renaissance World Tour's official jeweler back in 2023.) But for Rowland's opening night, the "Texas Hold 'Em" singer gave Tiffany the evening off.

She sourced Messika, another celebrity-beloved jeweler, instead. Her décolletage sparkled with not one, not two, but three rows of the So Move XL Pavé necklace, each gold chainlink clasped slightly shorter than the last. Pavé-set halo diamonds decorated the links' centers, which added some dimension to the already-divine design. Altogether, the trio rings up for $138,500. (Knowing Bey, her diamond drop earrings could take the total to $150,000.)

The switch-up from Tiffany to Messika isn't a total surprise—Beyoncé has been a valued member of the Parisian label's clientele since 2014. Most recently, at Louis Vuitton's menswear runway show in June, Messika frosted her in the rare Fragment of Time Necklace.

232 diamonds—including a standout yellow stone—brought the double-strand pendant to a total of 129 carats. Rumor has it, the Messika creation exceeded the $10 million range, making it one of the most expensive jewels in Beyoncé's collection.

Last weekend, Beyoncé's Messika streak continued at Kris Jenner's 70th birthday party. For the James Bond-themed soirée, the brand loaned her bracelets from the same So Move collection. The chainlink motif matched the effortless elegance of her White Midnight Sun necklace, encrusted with white and yellow diamonds.

“I’m tired of living through historical events” has become a popular internet catchphrase. It certainly captures the feeling of being sentient in 2025 (see: more tariffs, fewer human rights, global political leaders squaring off in a will-they-won’t-they World War III). Tensions are high. The future is uncertain. Every day can feel like you're bracing for battle—metaphorical for some, literal for others.

Fashion is responding in the best way it knows how: by making women's military jackets the archival silhouette revival of the moment.

Recognizable by a cropped silhouette, braided rope embroidery, and frog toggles across the chest, decorative military jackets originated with Hungarian cavalry, known as the Hussar, and later became a status symbol across European armies in the Napoleonic era. Now, as if united by a battle cry (“Do you hear the people sing? Singing the song of angry men?”), fashion designers are proposing that the 350-year-old jacket become part of modern women’s uniform.

A battalion of red, white, and navy women's military jackets stormed McQueen and Ann Demeulemeester’s Spring 2026 runways. At Vaquera, there was an acid-washed denim jacket featuring rows of brass buttons and loops across the chest.

Over the summer, the style popped up in Jonathan Anderson’s debut collection for Dior Men. Not long after, Jenna Ortega wore a custom vest version to his first womenswear show at Paris Fashion Week, styled by Enrique Melendez. A week later, new Dior brand ambassador Greta Lee appeared on the cover of Vogue in one of the seafoam military jackets.

Naturally, fashion Twitter (a.k.a. X) is already engaged in the military jacket trend discourse, resurfacing past instances of cultural fixtures embracing the style, such as Michael Jackson and My Chemical Romance’s indie sleaze rock anthem, “Welcome to the Black Parade.” Dr. Serena Dyer, a fashion historian, author, and curator, notes that its origins go back further, "first adopted into mainstream fashion by 60s counter-culture icons,” like The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, and Mick Jagger.

Today’s take on the military jacket is much more than just recycled nostalgia, explains Summer Anne Lee, a fashion historian and adjunct instructor at the Fashion Institute of Technology. “When contemporary designers reinterpret the look of the Hussar jacket into their work, it's just as likely that they are referencing cultural icons as they are referencing an actual military uniform," she says. "In 2025, against a backdrop of political unease, war, and resurgent nationalism, these jackets can be read as an ongoing dialogue about authority and power."

McQueen’s Spring 2026 collection is perhaps the most explicit nod to the incendiary vibe of our times. Creative director Sean McGirr cited Robin Hardy’s 1973 The Wicker Man, a horror classic about the conflict between faith and power, as a reference in his show notes. He wrote of "a febrile charge in the air" and "a site of simmering tensions” as driving his latest designs for the brand: "What happens when we give way, satisfying our deep-seated desires and innate impulses? What does it take to stir and submit to that primal drive?”

An ivory brocade military jacket worn unfastened, with a white criss-crossing bikini peeking through, and paired with distressed low-rise jeans, feels like an answer.

The military jacket most recently bubbled back up in the late aughts and early 2010s, as a foundational staple of the indie sleaze aesthetic. Christophe Decarnin's Spring 2009 collection for Balmain is largely to credit for connecting the martial outerwear with the grunge-y mood, with its puff-shoulder military jackets covered in crystal-embellished frogging. So are It girls like Beyoncé and Rihanna, who brought these styles out of the fashion bubble and into the public eye.

The context of today’s societal and political landscape, though, is too loud to ignore.

“The military jacket's 2025 resurgence reflects our collective need for sartorial armor that offers a sense of control in uncertain times," Dyer says.

History, while not necessarily repeating itself, feels awfully close to rhyming. A fashion trend that reminds us of our ability to fight and individual power is an important, necessary one.

After taking a summer break from Instagram, Beyoncé has returned to the platform with not one but two new posts. For the occasion, the "Halo" singer wore two very different outfits—a vintage metallic dress and a sheer body-hugging gown—and thanked fans for their birthday wishes.

Beyoncé celebrated her 44th birthday on September 4, and she captioned her first post, "Thank you so much for my birthday love. I'm thankful to God for another year. Peace and Love." She signed off with none other than the bee emoji.

In the new pictures shared in her birthday post, Beyoncé wore a custom Dolce & Gabbana dress, made almost entirely from sheer lace. Based on a look from the fashion house's Fall 2023 RTW collection, the superstar's dress consisted of lace in different textures and designs, including polka dots, before cascading to the floor in an intricate floral train. In some snaps, Beyoncé draped a matching fur coat around her shoulders.

A pair of long lace gloves completed the Cowboy Carter artist's celebratory outfit.

In a subsequent Instagram post shared just hours later, Beyoncé revealed the outfit she'd worn to attend Reform Alliance's Casino Night and Gala event.

The "Bodyguard" singer posed in a copper metallic gown from Roberto Cavalli's Fall/Winter 2007 collection. The jaw-dropping dress features a deep V-neck as well as delicate draping akin to a Grecian gown. The vintage gown is available on re-sale sites for anywhere between $4,149 and $5,393.

Additional snaps from the evening revealed the details of Beyoncé's outfit. A long-haired fur coat adorned the singer's shoulders, while she selected tinted sunglasses, a striking diamond necklace, and a pair of gold Femme LA FXRD Sandals for accessories. Needless to say, fans were overjoyed Beyoncé finally ended her Instagram vacation.

Teyana Taylor's career has traversed many eras—but the singer-songwriter, dancer, actress, beauty icon, and self-described "lover girl" has never strayed from two key principles: an unshakable belief in herself, and the willingness to learn from talented mentors.

As she tells Marie Claire on the Nice Talk podcast with Nikki Ogunnaike—an interview also featured on the cover of Marie Claire's Changemakers issue—these two principles memorably met in the form of life advice from Beyoncé.

Wipe your tears, Beyhive, because Beyoncé's country-coded era isn't over yet. Sure, the Grammy winner's Cowboy Carter tour ended on July 26, but on August 4, Beyoncé teamed up with Levi's for one final rodeo.

Make way for "The Denim Cowboy," the fourth (and rumor has it, final) chapter of Beyoncé's year-long REIIMAGINE campaign with the American label. The dynamic duo dropped four never-before-seen shots, plus a 90-second commercial. The close-ups captured Bey in the '90s Shrunken Trucker and 501 Curve Jeans, a crystal-embellished Canadian tuxedo that fans can shop right now.

Originally seen in the third short film, titled "Pool Hall," the A-lister paid homage to her Cowboy Carter song, "Levii's Jeans" in bedazzled boot-cut jeans and a matching denim jacket. These styles, alongside four additional denim designs, are available on Beyoncé's storefront, ranging from $150 to $250.

In true Beyoncé form, that's not all. Ending her Cowboy Carter cycle with a bang, the A-lister combined her three previous Levi's ads into one award-worthy visual. With "Levii's Jeans" as the soundtrack, Queen Bey opened the video on horseback wearing a cropped white tee, Levi's jeans, and a denim cowboy hat. You may recognize this combo from the "Launderette" campaign, which launched in Sept. 2024.

Next, the camera panned to the "Refrigerator" video, starring Beyoncé in Daisy dukes and a mid-wash button-down, both with Levi's tags, of course. Fans assumed "Pool Hall" would conclude this denim-heavy recap, but with ten seconds to spare, Beyoncé delivered another Easter egg-filled clip.

Instead of the horse she rode in on, Beyoncé straddled a motorcycle and drove off in her Levi's. Fans believe she's teasing the end of Cowboy Carter and the beginning of her mysterious Act III album. By trading her horse for a bike, she's ushering in a new sound and style, which fans suspect will be rock n' roll, another music genre pioneered by Black artists. “She comes in on a horse, leaves on a motorcycle … It’s rock," one fan shared on X.

Toward the end of "The Denim Cowboy," viewers also flagged a timestamp of 9:04 PM above "The Smoke" chapter. The meaning behind this time and title are unknown, but if fans are right, Beyoncé will announce something on September 4, her 44th birthday. (Four is her favorite number, after all). But on July 19, RiRi outdid herself with a 24-year-old tote from Louis Vuitton's first-ever collaboration.

Now that Smurfs is in theaters, Rihanna is back on her street style grind following weeks of red carpet walks. Over the weekend, the pregnant star grabbed lunch at The Four Seasons Hotel in L.A., wearing head-to-toe designer. My eyes immediately went to her Graffiti Alma purse, which debuted in Louis Vuitton's 2001 collection with Stephen Sprouse.

Former creative director Marc Jacobs invited Sprouse to splash suitcases, trunks, and handbags with his signature graffiti print. Rihanna got her hands on the white Alma model—a structured dome that's been around since 1934. Sprouse's black script covered the calfskin leather's curved exterior. Nowadays, the "Umbrella" singer's Graffiti Alma is listed on various secondhand sites for upwards of $1,500.

In the final weeks of her nine-city circuit, the pop star debuted the only quintessential American garb she hasn't yet worn: a pair of Calvin Klein undies. For her two-night stint in the nation's capital, Beyoncé sported one of the most famous brand logos to come out of the United States in its 249-year history.

The "16 Carriages" singer took the stage in Washington, D.C., wearing nothing but a sports bra and bikini briefs from Calvin Klein—plus a matching cape. The pop star wore silver iterations of country girl staples to nearly every show, inspiring millions of fans to do the same. It's a prime stage for fashion that interrogates notions of patriotism and belonging in the same manner of Beyoncé's Grammy-winning lyrics. The star has no doubt saved some of her most pointed looks for this stop. And to get her message across, no one is a better fit to dress her than a women-led label.

Whenever Beyoncé attends a fashion week show, it immediately becomes the most talked-about event of the season (that's a give-in). And on the first day of Paris Men's Fashion Week, Pharrell Williams and Louis Vuitton claimed the highest honor, welcoming the pop star to their A-list front row.

In a new video shared to Cécred’s official Instagram account, the singer opens up about the “little ritual” she and her dad used to share when taking care of her hair as a kid, subsequently revealing for the first time ever that she has scalp psoriasis.

“One of my fondest memories growing up was my dad putting my medicine on my scalp,” she says. “I have a very dry scalp—I have psoriasis that I’ve struggled with since I was a kid.”

For the uninitiated, scalp psoriasis is a condition that causes thick, scaly plaques to form on and around the scalp, per the Cleveland Clinic. This can often lead to itchiness and flaking, and while there is no cure, it can usually be treated with over-the-counter products containing ingredients like salicylic acid and zinc pyrithione, both of which are commonly found in dandruff shampoos.

Beyoncé joins a chorus of celebrities who’ve been shockingly transparent about their respective relationships with beauty in the last month. For her sixth and final show in the U.K., the Grammy winner went out with a bang (no pun intended) in custom Poster Girl, an independent London-based label. Co-founders Natasha Somerville and Francesca Capper are known for their latex looks, so Queen Bey wore their signature fabric from head-to-toe.

With help from her stylist, Shiona Turini the Grammy winner first slipped on a red bodysuit, complete with a plunging, flame-shaped neckline. From there, she stayed true to her Western-inspired aesthetic with two-tone chaps, also in glossy latex. If you look closely enough, you'll see the flame motif continued on each leg. In true cowboy fashion, a rhinestone-embellished belt buckle secured the bottoms around her waist.

No Beyoncé look would be complete without a cowboy hat, so Poster Girl custom-made a latex version just for her. Contrary to her typical Stetsons, the bold brim was oversized and flared up toward her crown. It was also printed with burgundy flames, just like Beyoncé's chaps.

The double "i" paid homage to Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter track "LEVII'S JEANS." It also matched T-shirts included in Beyoncé's limited-edition collaboration with Levi's, which launched in May.

It wouldn't be a true Levi's creation without at least one denim design. The brand hand-stitched vintage jeans in different textures, washes, and styles together to build a patchwork cape. The elongated coat flowed behind her as she strutted down a catwalk. It matched her similar denim cowboy hat to a T.

A few songs later, Beyoncé ditched the denim trench to reveal her cheeky chaps—another Levi's fashion. Just like her bodysuit, the star-spangled overalls were entirely embellished with Swarovski crystals in red, white, and blue. Both sides of her cowboy-coded chaps featured rhinestone fringe—a signature accent of her Cowboy Carter era.

If you keep tabs on her couture costumes, you know Beyoncé's bottoms originally premiered during the tour's fifth and final show at New Jersey's Met Life Stadium. On May 29, she paired them with a New York Yankees varsity jacket and a sporty cowboy hat from Maurice Hats.

However, they were made to be worn with head-to-toe Levi's. The label constructed the chaps out of the Ribcage Wide Leg Jeans—fan-favorite pants, which ring in at $98. For that price, you can rhinestone them yourself.

To no surprise, Levi's also supplied Beyoncé's background dancers with custom co-ords. They sported the same fringed chaps, a denim crop top, and hot pants in a similar dark wash as the star's jeans.

While this may be Levi's first design for the Cowboy Carter tour, thanks to the Beyhive's high praise, it certainly won't be the last. "You chose the right girl for this," said one fan, while another commented, "Beautiful!!! Y’all did that!!"

The Duchess of Sussex wrapped up the first season of her new Lemonada Media podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder With Meghan, last week, but on Tuesday, June 3, she released a bonus episode—and none other than Beyoncé's mother, Tina Knowles, opened up about her decades of experience as an entrepreneur.

Speaking exclusively to Marie Claire, Meghan says, "Wrapping 'Confessions of a Female Founder’ with Tina Knowles felt like the perfect end to a very special podcast; as I grow my own business, As ever, I spoke to women who had turned their own entrepreneurial dreams into reality."

"Ms. Tina’s conversation fulfills the promise of the podcast, offering extraordinary advice, and sharing insights about being a working mom, building something special, and remaining true to herself through every twist and turn," she continues. "This episode proves to be a powerful toolkit of truths that I will apply to my own life as I, too, grow my business, care for my family, and look forward to new adventures."

Knowles, who opened Houston hair salon Headliners in 1990, told Meghan she "learned to be a boss" through her decades in the hair industry. “I think that you start your business and then you find yourself," she said during the episode. "It gives you confidence that you didn't have before."

When it comes to Cécred, her haircare line with Beyoncé, Knowles—who released her memoir, Matriarch, in April—said it was a longtime goal to create her own beauty products. “It has been a dream of mine forever, and Beyoncé, it’s been a dream of hers,” she told the duchess.

In fact, Knowles revealed that Beyoncé "could actually be a hairstylist" since she grew up watching her at the salon. When Meghan asked what it was like working with her daughter, the number-one New York Times bestselling author said that she deferred to the "Single Ladies" singer on business decisions.

"You know you have disagreements, and you have to—I’m the one to always cave," Knowles admitted. "If my kids are mad at me, I can’t take it. I’ll cave." She added that with Beyoncé, "If we have a disagreement, it’s her business, so she gets the win."

While discussing the behind-the-scenes stresses of launching a brand, the Duchess of Sussex shared what happened after her new lifestyle brand, As ever, sold out of its jam, tea, honey and baking mixes less than an hour after its debut.

"For me at the moment with As ever, it was...great, we plan, we planned for a year, and then everything sells out in 45 minutes—which yes, amazing. Great news," the duchess said.

"Then what do you do then?" Knowles interjected. Meghan said that she contemplated what her brand's next move should be while looking at it from a customer's perspective.

"And then you say, 'Okay, we planned as best as we could. Are we going to replenish and sell out again in an hour? Or is that annoying as a customer?'" the duchess continued. Ultimately, Meghan said she decided to reassess rather than leave people disappointed. "I’m looking at it saying, 'Just pause. That happened. Let's wait until we are completely stable and we have everything we need.'"

Knowles agreed based on her own experiences, with Meghan adding that the public can "see all the flashy stuff and they see the product. But that end game…I think you're right. Those behind the scenes moments, how many tears I’ve shed."

The duchess pointed out that a "scarcity mentality at the beginning might be a hook for people," comparing it to "a sneaker drop." However, she said in terms of a long-term customer experience, it's not ideal. "I don't want you to eat that jam once every six months!" she said.

Ask any fashion enthusiast and they'll agree: Beyoncé is one of Schiaparelli's strongest supporters. Creative director Daniel Roseberry has dressed the icon more than ten times, including for the cover of British Vogue, on the Renaissance world tour, and at the Grammy Awards four years in a row. The Beyhive still isn't over the Western-inspired Schiaparelli gown she wore at this year's ceremony (to accept the trophy for Album of the Year, no less).

All this to say? It's no surprise that she sourced the French atelier for her Cowboy Carter tour attire. On May 29, Beyoncé took center stage at Met Life Stadium in New Jersey. For her fifth and final performance on the East Coast, Queen Bey went out with a bang (no pun intended) in custom Schiaparelli. Always on board for a bold corset, the Grammy winner performed the fan-favorite song, "Alligator Tears" in a bronze bustier, complete with visible boning, mesh panels, and cups draped with duchesse satin. From there, she embraced her Western-inspired aesthetic with croc-embossed velvet pants in a classic bootcut silhouette. Numerous silver buckles cascaded down each leg. If her bottoms feel familiar, that's because they were inspired by Look 4 from the brand's Spring 2024 Couture show.

The bold buckles didn't stop at her pants. Beyoncé tapped into the double-belt trend with not one, but four belts—each in different metals, textures, and shapes. One of them featured a flame-embellished buckle with a keyhole at the center, a.k.a. one of Schiaparelli's signature house codes.

To no surprise, Beyoncé sported one more Schiaparelli style: a dramatic knee-length coat. The outerwear was covered in black trompe l’oeil fur made of ostrich feathers bathed in glycerin for extra shine. Her concert-ready co-ord wouldn't be complete without a cowboy hat. So, Beyoncé chose a complementary black version, presumably from Stetson.

Sure, this was the "Texas Hold 'Em" singer's last show in New Jersey, but the Cowboy Carter tour is far from over. There are 18 shows left, stretching from her hometown of Houston to London and eventually, Las Vegas. So, there's a chance she'll debut more Schiaparelli sets at future performances. Keep a close eye on her three shows in Paris. Who knows? Maybe the French brand will return to the tour with brand-new costumes.

Beyoncé is apparently in her Reputation era.

For months—years, really—fans have been holding their breath in anticipation of Taylor Swift's fifth re-recorded album, Reputation (Taylor's Version). The tenor reached a fever pitch after rumors swirled that she'd make the official announcement at the 2025 American Music Awards last weekend. But, alas, Swift was nowhere to be found.

Now that her second Eras Tour is complete, the star has been keeping mostly out of the spotlight. And, as a result, fans are currently in the midst of an Easter egg drought that's rapidly approaching critical mass. Thankfully, her good friend Beyoncé is carrying on the reptilian Reputation torch.

Last night, the "16 Carriages" singer performed for the fourth consecutive evening at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. All the usual elements of her Cowboy Carter tour costuming were present: assless chaps, bodysuits, and the star-spangled banner. But one 'fit, in particular, gave palpable Swiftie vibes that simply must be addressed.

During the May 28 concert, Beyoncé stopped her show halfway through so she could help a member of the audience with their gender reveal on stage. The baby is a boy, but Queen Bey's look paid tribute to her girl.

In a video captured by stylist Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, the pop star wore a glossy, crimson red bodysuit embellished with crystal-encrusted snakes down both sleeves. Her over-the-knee boots also featured the motif, with serpentine imagery stretching from her toes to her thighs.

While not a direct replica by any means, the look was reminiscent of Swift's original Eras Tour Reputation bodysuit (which she later swapped out for a gold-embellished version). It was Reputation (Beyoncé's Version).

As much as I'd love to think the pop stars were co-conspirators behind this look, it's more likely that Beyoncé just liked the vibe. But still, a girl can dream.

On Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter Tour, every show is like fashion week for the Beyhive. With each new performance, the pop star debuts a series of fresh concert 'fits all in-line with the album's Americana themes.

Thus far, Queen Bey has embraced traditional Western motifs. Her tour wardrobe has consisted of bandana prints, star spangled banners, assless chaps, and blue jeans in varying degrees of spice. The Chicago leg of her global tour stayed true to this aesthetic.

Beyoncé performed in a range of outfits incorporating gold lamé, XL rodeo buckles, leather chaps, and a bejeweled varsity jacket, before changing into a sparkly tank top and denim short-shorts from Sami Miró. Styled by Shiona Turini, the look featured a crystal-encrusted bodice with dual-layered Daisy Dukes (or, as they'll henceforth be known, Beyoncés) embellished with royal blue jewels.

Finishing touches included slouchy over-the-knee denim boots and a pair of dazzling pavé David Koma earrings that could undoubtedly be seen all the way in the nosebleed section.

The cheeky 'fit was the least theatrical of the bunch, to be sure. But for members of the Bey Hive, it was certainly the most meaningful. Beyoncé's look paid tribute to one of her most famous songs to date, the 2003 hit "Crazy in Love."

In the accompanying music video, a straight-haired Beyoncè can be seen sporting a very similar look to the one she wore just this week. Then, she wore a silvery tank top and low-rise denim shorts styled with a delicate gold body chain. The modern-day version was nearly identical, albeit yassified.

Beyoncé's tour looks thus far have been designed by a range of luxury designers, from Burberry and Loewe to Roberto Cavalli. But it's her down-to-earth look from 2003 that was a momentous piece of history worth repeating.

Blue Ivy isn't just Beyoncé's daughter. As well as winning her first Grammy at just 9 years old, Blue is a professional performer and currently dancing in her mom's Cowboy Carter Tour. Luckily, Blue's tenacity means she was fully prepared to deftly correct a mishap involving Beyoncé's hair onstage.

During a performance at Soldier Field in Chicago on Thursday, May 15, Blue Ivy, 13, encountered an issue while dancing behind her mom. As Beyoncé sang "Protector" seated with 7-year-old daughter Rumi, Blue could be seen sitting behind the pair and taking part in choreography with the other dancers. In a video clip shared by a fan on social media (via Billboard), Blue was seen reacting quickly after discovering her earring had gotten tangled in her mom's hair.

After unsuccessfully attempting to extricate herself from Beyoncé's hair, Blue decided to remove the earring altogether, enabling her to continue performing the dance routine.

Blue's fans were excited to see the performer spring into action during a stressful Cowboy Carter Tour moment. Referencing Blue's nickname as the "manager," one fan wrote on X, "BLUE MADE SURE NO EARRING IS GOING TO TANGLE ON HER CLIENT'S HAIR TONIGHT." The year is 2002. Nelly’s “Hot in Here” is on the radio, “TikTok” is only known as the sound a clock makes, and Burberry’s check bikini is the hottest item to have at the pool. The two-piece swimsuit in the British brand’s signature tartan symbolizes luxury, sex, and status. All the rich It girls wear beige, black, white, and red bikinis—like a nearly-naked Kate Moss for Mario Testino’s Burberry campaigns and Beyoncé in Jay-Z’s “‘03 Bonnie & Clyde” music video, while Jay flows, "The only time you wear Burberry to swim."

But as is often the case with ubiquitous fashion trends, what once felt fresh and covetable can begin to feel overdone—or even a little passé. When flashy Y2K fashion fell out towards the end of the decade, Burberry’s aspirational trademarked check bikini was swept up in the shift. Plus, in the wake of the 2008 recession, luxury price tags were out of reach for many, especially when it came to an itty-bitty, teeny-weeny, tan, plaid striped bikini that could cost a sizable portion of a month’s paycheck.

Fast-forward to now, and the ever-cyclical nature of fashion trends has brought the Burberry bikini full circle—now a viral summer 2025 trend.

Pop stars, perennial It girls, and supermodels are once again sporting the tartan two-piece both on and off the beach: Alexa Chung paired the checked two-piece with rainboots for the brand's muddy, Glastonbury-themed festival campaign, the hot girl to end all hot girls, Megan Thee Stallion, brought hers on a tropical vaction, and long-time friend of the fashion house Rosie Huntington-Whiteley wore one for her late April cover shoot for The Sunday Times Style magazine. TikTok users have dubbed it a holy grail thrift shop find and an “order this as soon as I get paid” favorite, which is largely why the suit is selling out across retailers like Saks, Bloomingdale's, and Bergdorf Goodman.

As the popular fashion analytics site Data, But Make it Fashion notes, it’s time to “prepare [yourself] for a Burberry bikini summer.”

So, how did Burberry’s checked swimsuit stage a comeback over twenty years after its peak? This revival is largely due to the British label’s own efforts. In early April, Burberry released its High Summer 2025 campaign that put its check bikini on industry-favorite models Huntington-Whiteley and Alva Claire. The swimsuit spread resulted in a 14 percent spike in engagement and searches for the bikini, playing a crucial role in bringing the iconic piece back into the public spotlight, reports Data, But Make it Fashion.

Significantly, the fashion world has also pivoted back toward flashier displays of wealth, signaling the decline of the subdued, quiet luxury aesthetic that reigned for several seasons. Celebrities now prefer their luxury to be loud, logo-laden, and unmistakably in the five-to-six-figure range. Consumers, too, are stocking their closets with rich-looking finds, like elegant silk scarves and instantly recognizable designer handbags, teasing their high-net-worth status—even if it’s more aspirational than actual.

In 2025, fashion embraces a palpable "if you’ve got it, flaunt it" energy, even amidst Trump-era tariffs and looming recession indicators.

But Burberry has smartly noted the shift in shopping appetites, explains Sebastian Szafarczyk, the CEO of the Burberry-only London and Paris secondhand boutiques, Check It Vintage. After several years of removing its conspicuous check pattern from the runways—and catching strays from Succession for being an "enormous faux pas"—Burberry’s 2022-appointed creative director, Daniel Lee, is reinstating its trademarked tartan as the brand’s calling card.

Both the Burberry Spring 2025 and Fall 2025 collections prominently featured the iconic check, appearing on rugged barn jackets, trendy cargo bags, and, surprise, surprise, trench coats. It was only natural to bring back the check in the brand's Summer 2025 drop.

And it looks like Lee’s decision to bring back Burberry’s classic tartan is starting to pay off. According to Business of Fashion, sales were better than expected, a sign that the brand’s comeback might be gaining traction in a tough luxury market.

Add to that a wave of high-profile celebrity moments—Zendaya in a cinched Burberry tartan belt, Beyoncé wearing the check on stage during her Cowboy Carter tour—and the brand’s heritage print has officially regained its status-symbol appeal. "Which primes everything well for the Burberry bikini to definitely be the item of the summer," says Szafarczyk.

It also helps that Burberry’s check bikini left an indelible mark on early-aughts pop culture. "The swimsuit is part of some of the most iconic fashion moments of that era," says the anonymous curator behind the Instagram moodboard and meme account @2000sfashionista, "I’ll never forget Victoria Beckham’s Burberry bikini and matching bandana in 2000. Now that both the bikini and bandana are trending again in 2025, I have no doubt her look is poised for a comeback this summer."

Beckham’s coordinated moment from 25 years ago was maximalism in its purest form—a head-to-toe flex that left no room for subtlety. But as @2000sfashionista points out, that all-out, no-apologies bougieness is exactly what makes the Burberry check so enduring.

Nine years after being snubbed by country music’s elite, Beyoncé opens the Cowboy Carter Tour, not by shying away from the controversy that spurred its namesake album, but by demonstrating the power of protest.

The first bars of the lead track on her 2024 album, “American Requiem,” kick off the show in complete darkness, leaving the audience to focus on the gospel-tinged challenge to America’s original sin. Minutes later, her rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” is backed by Jimi Hendrix’s acerbic riffs from Woodstock, bringing the politicized performance 55 years into the future. As she sings, “History can’t be erased,” during “Ya Ya,” the screen behind her punctuates the lyrics with archival footage of civil rights marches. The frenetic, emotional, joyous first minutes of her latest stadium tour delivers the message with the subtlety of a sledgehammer, but, like Bey herself, it’s bombastic in its euphoria. I’ll sum it up in the feeling that washed over me after reading an essential edict displayed on stage, several stories tall: “Never ask permission for something that already belongs to you.”

This segment of the concert is exactly why Cowboy Carter holds a special place in my heart. As I wrote last year, I see Beyoncé’s unapologetic exploration of these genres—in which white gatekeepers have tried to erase Black influence—as a reminder to never allow bigots to tell me where I don’t belong. Still, the Cowboy Carter Tour is taking place during a very dark time for America, and when I was invited by SoFi to see the concert at the L.A. stadium, I was at a down point in my mental health, finding it very hard to retain that sense of hope and resilience. And I know I’m not alone in feeling like this.

Beyoncé directly confronts these thoughts in her searing visual interlude between “Ya Ya” and “America’s Got a Problem.” Mixing Ras Baraka’s “American Poem” with an upbeat jazz-flute melody, she combines archival videos with childhood footage, placing her own performances next to legendary musicians who inspire her, like Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and Tina Turner. But then, the exuberant clips of Black expression are interrupted by news reels of white commentators’s outrage over the singer “inserting herself” into a genre that has been part of her DNA since she was born and raised in Houston, Texas. Here, Beyoncé proves her point to an audience of 70,000 people and whoever sees photos and video of the live show online: America has always been Black, even if you don’t want to admit it. And you can’t stop us from celebrating it.

The first 40 minutes of the Cowboy Carter Tour were the righteous, corroborated reclamation I needed, but the message gets lost in the second half as the concert becomes purely an experience in Beyoncé. This tour, which launched on April 28 and lasts until July 26, is the singer’s longest concert to date; at two hours and 45 minutes, it surpasses the length of its namesake album. When I attended night three in L.A., the singer followed up the spectacular opening with two more segments running straight through Cowboy Carter, before expanding the scope again to include more of her previous work. The concert quickly becomes less focused on the message and more on the experience of seeing this genreless project performed live. The visuals also lose their archival bent, with Beyoncé instead inserting herself into Wild West imagery and classic cinema. The setlist becomes an undirected exploration, with mash-ups and song transitions pulling from every single era of her over 30-plus years as a musician, even the Destiny’s Child years and deep cuts like 2020’s Black Is King.

This left me a bit jarred when the show jumped right back into symbolism for the closing act. The 35-time Grammy winner saves “16 Carriages” for the finale, as she rides a flying car over the arena floor. It seems like the perfect sendoff, with Bey’s lyrics reminiscing on a career of sacrifices. She even brings back the patriotic imagery in full force; she and her dancers wear looks featuring the American flag, with a giant effigy of a masked Statue of Liberty erected on the stage. Though the styling throughout the whole show played with the colors red, white, and blue, the finale is the only time she wears the American flag, which, despite the evening of assurances that America is as much hers as anyone’s, is still a subversive act.

Even with all that, the closing act didn’t land for me, and I left the concert thinking more about Beyoncé the figure than Beyoncé the artist. Though I’ve admired Beyoncé my entire life—I still have half of her choreography memorized from watching her videos over and over as a kid, and I count B'Day, Lemonade, and Renaissance among my top 20 albums of all time—my critical brain often grapples with the distinction between her artistry and business. Concertgoing sits in a weird space of jubilation through commerce; fans attend to experience a transcendent communal experience, but they pay increasingly high ticket prices, and possibly even go into debt, to access it. Ideally, the awe of the large-scale performance is enough to make every attendee forget the complicated world and just live in the music. I reached that elation early in CC’s runtime, tears and all, but by the second hour in, I couldn’t stop getting distracted by the neon Cecred and Sir Davis displays on the stage walkways, and the economics of the whole night. I wasn’t thinking of the much-needed archival history lesson two hours prior; instead, I wondered how she removed the Sphere from her Attack of the 50 Foot Woman interlude so quickly. I was thinking of money and capitalism, and power, and what that reclamation serves. Does a multi-millionaire married to a billionaire really need to be reclaiming symbols of a country built on capitalist exploitation? Is there a more effective use of Beyoncé’s artistry?

The Cowboy Carter and Renaissance eras did similar things. Both amplified forgotten Black trailblazers who crafted genres of music that often don’t give them credit. Both are celebrations of Black resilience and artistry, as well as defiant proclamations within their very existence. But Cowboy Carter’s most common critique, one I share, is that it’s trying to accomplish so much. In addition to being an ethnomusicology lesson, it’s also an artist’s declaration that she deserves recognition beyond boundaries in today’s music landscape. (It succeeded, hence her Album of the Year win at this year’s Grammys.) Compare that with Renaissance, which fills its space with innovative archival sampling, visibility for marginalized trendsetters, and a carnal joy welcoming a brighter future. In its final 30 minutes, the Cowboy Carter Tour briefly reprises Renaissance’s first three songs in the exact staging from the 2023 mega-tour, and returning to Renaissance’s chrome, Afrofuturistic utopia, reiterating what Beyoncé is capable of outside of all that reimagined Americana.

Beyoncé’s reclamation of country and Americana is important and powerful, but it’s not without its baggage. At the same time that it’s pivotal and empowering that she’s amplifying the rightful Black music legacy that mainstream country tries to hide, her message can also be muddled by her iconography and the complicated class politics it evokes. I’m glad as a fan and a critic that both Cowboy Carter and its Tour exist, but Renaissance was more successful to me as both a body of music and an era. One was about reclaiming the past and demanding space in the present, the other revived the past to welcome it into an exciting tomorrow. One Beyoncé is influential, the other is essential. And while I’m glad the Cowboy Carter Tour has both, I hope the next act focuses on the latter.

The "Halo" singer revealed Harry and Meghan's presence at her star-studded tour date by sharing a photo of the royals on her official website. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex could be seen cozying up in what looked like a VIP box, and they both chose the perfect outfits for the glitzy occasion.

Prince Harry leaned into Cowboy Carter's country roots by wearing a dark green cowboy hat with a faded green shirt, which he wore over a black T-shirt and jeans. Duchess Meghan, meanwhile, put a chic twist on the country music theme by wearing a Carolina Herrera Off-The-Shoulder Ruched Denim Midi Dress. For accessories, Meghan wore Logan Hollowell's Eau de Rose Cut Gaia Choker and a Large Diamond Faith Pendant.

Unsurprisingly, the Sussexes looked extremely loved-up during their date night at Beyoncé's concert, and fans reportedly spotted the couple dancing, via the Daily Mail.

Unfortunately, Meghan's Carolina Herrera dress is from a past season and has since sold out. Any fans hoping to recreate the duchess's Cowboy Carter outfit won't have any trouble finding dupes, however, as denim dresses are very much on-trend this season.

Canadian comedian Katherine Ryan recently revealed she wanted to set up Prince Harry with Kourtney Kardashian, just before he met Duchess Meghan. "I walked in and saw Kourtney Kardashian with Princess Beatrice," Ryan said of a party she attended in London (via Hello! magazine). "I went straight over to her because I knew who she was. A video Eden shared on the account shows Blue dancing with the other backup dancers as Beyoncé sings "Texas Hold 'Em". As the performers start to move to another part of the stage, Blue points to the poster and gives a thumbs up twice.

Blue has been referred to as her mother and grandmother's manager in the past. In April, Tina posted a video of herself getting her eyebrows dyed by Blue. She says in the clip, "My beauty guru and my manager, Miss Blue Ivy Carter has instructed me that I need to dye my eyebrows, because they have little gray streaks in them."

Beyoncé was up for 11 total awards at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, her most-ever nominations in a single year. (She bested her record of 10 nods, which she received in 2009.) In addition to Album of the Year, her nominations included: Country Album of the Year for Cowboy Carter, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Country Song for "TEXAS HOLD 'EM," Best Country Solo Performance for "16 CARRIAGES," Best Americana Performance for "YA YA," Best Pop Solo Performance for "Bodyguard," Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for "LEVII'S JEANS" featuring Post Malone, Best Melodic Rap Performance for “SPAGHETTI” featuring Linda Martell and Shaboozey, and Best Country Duo/Group Performance for "II MOST WANTED" featuring Miley Cyrus.

Queen Bey went into the 67th Annual Grammy Awards the most awarded artist in the awards show's history, starting the night with 32. She beat her own record and now has 35 gramophones to her name, as she also won awards for Best Country Album and Best Country Duo/Group Performance.

With her wins in the country category, Beyoncé also made history. Not only is she the first Black woman to win a Grammy in the genre in 50 years (since The Pointer Sisters won Best Country Vocal Performance By a Duo Or Group for the song “Fairytale"), she becomes the first Black woman to ever win Best Country Album.

The significance of winning Album of the Year for the first time is a feat for the singer—and it especially doesn't go unnoticed that it was for her roots and Americana-inspired project. She's long spoken about her love for the genre and has been vocal about the challenges Black female artists face in the country music industry. Notably, upon the release of Cowboy Carter, the musician shared in a candid Instagram statement about how an experience where she "did not feel welcomed" by the country community informed the record.

Since then, she broke a number of records on the Billboard charts—and now, has yet again made Grammys history.

Beyoncé has made Grammys history once again with her surprising win for Best Country Album at the 2025 Grammys.

The trailblazing musician was notably shocked as presenter Taylor Swift announced that Cowboy Carter won the top honor for this year's country category. With this award, Beyoncé becomes the first Black woman to ever win the Grammy for Best Country Album.

"Wow, I really was not expecting this. Wow," the singer said while accepting the honor. "I want to thank God—oh, my god—that I'm able to still do what I love after so many years. Oh, my God."

She continued her speech by acknowledging the many legendary as well as rising country stars who collaborated with her on the album, including Linda Martell, Willie Nelson, Shaboozey, Miley Cyrus, and fellow category nominee Post Malone.

"I'd like to thank all of the incredible country artists that accepted this album. We worked so hard on it. I think sometimes genre is a cold word to keep us in our place as artists, and I just want to encourage people to do what they're passionate about and to stay persistent," she continued.

"Wow. I’d like to thank my beautiful family, all of the artists that were collaborators. Thank you, this wouldn't have been this album without you. I'd like to thank God again and my fans—and I still am in shock, so thank you so much for this honor," she concluded.

Other nominees for Best Country Album included Chris Stapleton's Higher, Kacey Musgraves's Deeper Well, Post Malone's F-1 Trillion, and Lainey Wilson's Whirlwind.

During the 2025 Grammys' pre-ceremony, Beyoncé and Miley Cyrus took home the award for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for the Cowboy Carter track "II MOST WANTED." With her two wins, Bey became the first Black woman to win a Grammy in the Country genre in 50 years, following The Pointer Sisters in 1975.

Beyoncé is the most-nominated artist at this year's ceremony with 11 nods. She still has the chance to take home more golden gramophones tonight—her remaining noms include Album of the Year for Cowboy Carter, and Record of the Year and Song of the Year for "TEXAS HOLD 'EM."
