"The top handle style can literally take you anywhere; it is the most versatile from a functionality standpoint and can truly take you from day to night," says Kahn. She adds that "the Andiamo clutch, part of the same family, quickly became a [Neiman Marcus] bestseller soon after it launched. Since it's available in many colors and materials, it is truly the perfect size. There are several internal pockets and enough space to hold all of your essentials."

The Hop Bag

The Hop bag, available in mini, small, and large sizes—ranging from 3k to nearly 5k—is a slouchy woven leather shoulder bag that takes two full days to make and is designed to mold to the wearer's side over time. "Additionally, it is impressively made from one piece of leather, creating an incredibly structured piece of art," says Kahn.

The Cassette Bag

Inspired by vintage cassette tapes, Lee introduced the Cassette bag in his pre-fall 2019 collection for the brand. With its minimal leather lattice design and soft, padded fabrications, the woven crossbody was quickly crowned a contemporary classic and continues to be an iconic silhouette for Bottega.

The Ciao, Ciao

The newest addition to Bottega Veneta's bag family is the Ciao Ciao. This luxurious calf leather top-handle style, pegged to the summer 2025 season, features a two-way top flap with a hidden hook closure and the fashion house's signature knot detail. 'Meaning both 'Hello' and 'Goodbye', the bag name conveys ideas of travel, movement, and greeting loved ones in a light and playful way," the brand wrote about the Ciao Ciao—which already has a fan in Julianne Moore, who carried the bag around London in March 2025.

The Cabat Bag

First launched in 2001, the Cabat is a rectangular tote offered in mini, regular, and large—and it's quite large, measuring 11.4" x 15.7” x 6.3"—that is best known for its unlined interior, which testifies to the skill of the artisans who weave the double-faced leather strips by hand. Bottega iterated further on the silhouette for winter 2024 and now offers the Cabat bag in solid calf leather for a slouchier yet still sturdy option. With its emphasis on supreme craftsmanship, this bag is one of the priciest styles.

The Concert Pouch

Kahn also notes that "the Wallace, a mini shoulder bag that hits snug under the arm with adjustable lengths," is another best-seller at Neiman Marcus, with a price tag firmly planted at $2,000. The woven leather bag boasts an adjustable strap that can transition from handheld to worn over the shoulder as needed. The Wallace is small but mighty: it can easily accommodate an iPhone 16 Pro Max, a credit card case, Airpods, and a set of keys in its 5.1” by 7.9” shape.

The Bang Bang Vanity Case

The bang bang vanity case is an East-West style worn crossbody that trends year after year among Neiman Marcus shoppers, Kahn explains. The retail expert cites its ease of use, detachable strap, and signature intrecciato leather weaving as compelling factors that push consumers to add the $2,600 bag to their closets.

Two noble luxury houses, alike in dignity (and coveted accessories), have just appointed new creative directors after months of speculation.

On Dec. 12, Bottega Veneta confirmed in a press release the long-swirling rumors that creative director Matthieu Blazy would step down. Within hours, both his successor and new role were announced. Blazy is moving to Paris from Milan—specifically to serve as Chanel's "Artistic Director of Fashion Activities," a role that has been vacant since Karl Lagerfeld protégé Virginie Viard left the label in June 2024. Back in Milan, former Carven and Lacoste creative director Louise Trotter is taking over the top spot at Bottega. Both designers will start their new roles in January 2025.

Bottega Veneta's CEO, Leo Rongone, welcomed Trotter and thanked Blazy in a statement on Thursday morning.

"Her aesthetic seamlessly combines exquisite design with sublime craft and her commitment to cultural advocacy aligns beautifully with our brand vision," Rongone said of Trotter. "Through her sophisticated lens, Bottega Veneta will continue to celebrate its heritage while preserving modern relevance. I also want to express my profound appreciation for Matthieu, who has been an extraordinary partner in infusing our brand with desirability, emotional resonance, and intellectual identity.”

Indeed, Blazy's three-year tenure at Bottega Veneta has made an outsize impact that bodes well for Chanel's cool-factor. He has an almost magician-like ability to warp and construct leather into unexpected shapes (most famously, a photorealistic "flannel" and "jeans" modeled by Kate Moss). Off the runway, his takes on the woven Andiamo bag and drop earrings became viral essentials among celebrities from Kendall Jenner to Hailey Bieber and even Jacob Elordi. Bottega Veneta is currently in the top ten of fashion index Lyst's hottest brands; it's also one of the highest-grossing brands by revenue in its owner, Kering's, portfolio. No doubt Blazy will bring a fresh (and lucrative) eye to Chanel's house codes of tweed, quilted leather, and double-C logos.

Even with such a wide-ranging résumé, it's Trotter's appointment from Carven to Blazy's former post that's worth examining more closely.

In her last role at Carven, a post she held for nearly two years, Trotter revitalized the brand "as a minimalist’s haven of accessible but plush luxury," according to the New York Times. Now, she's bound to make an even more historic impression upon Bottega Veneta. The house has not had a women at the helm since the 1980s, when Laura Braggion ran the business with her husband, Vittorio Moltedo, until the mid-1990s. When she's fully integrated into the team, she'll be the only female creative director at a Kering brand. (Other designers owned by the conglomerate include Saint Laurent, Gucci, and McQueen.)

Luxury fashion has been in a marathon round of creative director musical chairs. In addition to Virginie Viard's exit from Chanel earlier this year, Kaia Gerber-favorite Celine lead Hedi Slimane stepped down, while the top slot at Fendi is currently vacant. Just yesterday, Dec. 11, John Galliano shared he too would step down from his post at Maison Margiela.

While women are the top clients at many of these labels, female designers aren't often chosen to lead them. The 2023 Vogue Business Index reported that only eight of 33 top creative director roles were filled by women. The faces of major luxury houses most often skew white and male (as with fashion, so too with most other industries). Exceptions to the rule usually come up in more consolidated markets, like Copenhagen Fashion Week's small-but-mighty schedule, where 63 percent of the participating brands have female creative directors.

All these vacancies and insider job trading on the luxury circuit can feel far removed from the commercial collections that land in boutiques and, eventually, exert trickle-down influence on mass brands. But as Blazy himself proved with his best-selling collections and celebrity-favorite pieces, the right person, at the right brand and the right time, can powerfully shape culture's definition of luxury, style, and aspiration.

Design talent has never been confined to a single gender. But with so few women designing for women at fashion's most powerful luxury houses, it's refreshing to see someone who truly understands the customer leading at least one more brand. I for one look forward to Louise Trotter's Bottega Veneta—and hope more women will be given the same chance to fill other highly-coveted posts.

Launching a fragrance is nothing new for the luxury fashion houses of the world. Most major European designers have at least one scent to accompany the season's newest designs. But Matthieu Blazy is anything but typical. The creative director of Bottega Veneta has once again ushered in a new era for the storied Italian house with the launch of its first in-house fragrance collection, a luxurious five-piece olfactory romp that's been 57 years in the making.

Weaving together Venetian influences from the North, South East, and West—not unlike Bottega Veneta's famed Intrecciato pattern—each of the new perfumes utilizes 100% natural origin essences (as opposed to synthetic ingredients). The fragrances—which were developed in collaboration with Kering Beauty's perfumers—utilize classic notes, such as orange blossom and bergamot, that mingle with more international selections, such as Spanish ladanum in the Acqua Sale scent, French Angelica oil in Colpo di Sole, Madagascar geranium in Déjà Minuit, Brazilian pink pepper in Alchemie, and French orris butter in Come with Me.

And then there's the absolutely stunning bottle. According to the Bottega Veneta team, the rippling design is meant to provide a smooth, sensual feel to emphasize the tactile experience as much as the smell itself; it also serves as a nod to the lagoon environment of Venice, the brand's origin city. Each bottle also contains distinct air bubbles to recreate the mouth blown aesthetic that is so integral to the region's legendary glassblowing technique. "This innovative effect pays tribute to the centuries-long tradition of Murano glassblowing—a craft most recently integrated into Blazy’s Winter '24 show space," says a representative for the brand. Typically considered imperfections, Blazy has allowed the air bubbles to create individually unique bottles, making it a truly bespoke experience for ardent fragrance fans.

As if the design itself wasn't grand enough for your perfume display, each 100mL bottle sits on a base of green Verde Saint Denis marble—the same material that is regularly incorporated into Blazy's store designs and that is signature to Venetian architecture. Smooth, weighty, and delightfully lavish, it's exactly the type of unexpected detail for which the creative director is so well known. Not to mention it makes the $450 price tag feel a bit more worthwhile.

Nikki Ogunnaike, Editor-in-Chief: "I was blown away at first sniff. According to the packaging, the notes are juniper oil and labdanum absolute, but with my skin chemistry, it smelled more masculine, like woodsy or patchouli. 10/10 no notes. I kind of can't stop smelling my wrists now!"

Come with Me

Hannah Baxter, Beauty Director: "I'm not going to lie, I didn't love this scent on me when I first dabbed it on my wrists. It's a little more robust and powdery than I typically like my fragrance choices to be, but all it took was ten minutes of marinating on my skin to change my mind. The next time I took a whiff, it smelled...sexy? The Italian bergamot finally emerged to create a rich, sensual, and heady blend with the violet-leaning orris butter. I can't wait to wear this when I go out to a dark bar with lots of old leather banquets and dirty martinis flowing. It's definitely not a daytime fragrance, but that's the beauty of having a fragrance wardrobe—you have a scent for every setting."

Alchemie

Samantha Holender, Beauty Editor: "My advice: Give this fragrance some time to settle. When I first dabbed it on my wrists, I described it as light and airy, even aquatic. But after just 10 minutes on my skin, the scent profile completely changed. It's actually quite earthy, spicy, and smoky—even a hint masculine. It's definitely more of a nighttime scent (contrary to my first impression) without being overwhelming. It's a fragrance someone will notice when they go to hug you, not when you enter a room."

Déjà Minuit

Halie LeSavage, Senior Fashion & Beauty Editor: "Deja Minuit makes a cozy first impression. When I tried it in front of the Marie Claire team, I thought it had a lot in common with my husband’s cologne—and that it was a woodsy complement for an oversize knit sweater and a date inside a snow globe. A few hours later, it’s evolved in a more floral direction with obvious notes of jasmine and geranium. Maybe it’s a little more season-less than I thought. It’s definitely powerful: Even with a slight cold, I don’t have to try hard at all to get a whiff of the drops I dabbed on my wrist."

Colpo di Sole

Lucia Tonelli, Associate Director of Social Media: "My first impression of this scent was, 'What is this?' I wasn’t familiar with the notes (French Angelica oil and Moroccan orange blossom absolute), but I was intrigued. The masculine-leaning scent packs a punch at first spritz, but quickly opens up as it sits on the skin. The scent reminded me of a fresh bed of pine needles—calming, subtle, and a bit wintery—with a slight sweetness that cuts at the sharper notes."

We already know that Margot Robbie and her go-to stylist, Andrew Mukamal, have perfected almost every look in the Barbie playbook from Malibu Beach to Holiday Barbie, but personally, we're big fans of Robbie's latest off-duty Bottega Veneta ensemble.

Her look, which she sported ahead of last night's Gotham Awards, is both a lesson in layering and proportion, combining quintessential fall staples like an oversized blazer, a fitted tank, and a flowing white button-down with a pair of jeans that hangs over her boots ever-just-so.

It hits all the notes: classic with some relaxed '90s nostalgia. And while the wind was a great accessory to the look (and Robbie's windblown locks), adding a Jodie woven leather bag and cat-eye sunglasses is a low-lift, high-impact way to dress up a simple look.

Rickie De Sole, Fashion Director at Nordstrom, foresaw the long and lean jean silhouette peaking for Fall 2023. If you want to try the trend for yourself, De Sole suggests "keeping [the look] clean by pairing [your denim] with a simple knit or tee and accessorizing with gold jewelry."

A white-button down, another quiet luxury staple and fall mainstay, is also an easy investment that goes a long way and can serve you any time of year. While Robbie sports a slightly boxy lightweight striped cotton and linen blend version ideal for layering, Net-a-Porter's Market Director Libby Page suggests investing in a few different types to keep on rotation. "Invest in crisp whites, pinstripe, or sky blue to pop under blazers and sweaters or "experiment with different fits and colors," says Page. "I like to have a tailored fit for work, an oversized style for relaxed weekend errands, and a print or colored option to add a pop to an otherwise typical outfit," she explains.

If you're investing in a few new closet staples to recreate the look, you can rest assured that these pieces will last well beyond the fall season. In January of 1997, style icon Carolyn Bessette Kennedy wore the same boot combo that continues appearing on runways and in real life.
