Before Jonathan Anderson unveiled his first collection as Dior's creative director last October, fashion people wondered how he would reimagine the most iconic house codes. First, he stamped every single style with Dior's original lowercase logo. Then, he gave the Book Tote a more literal makeover, trading the Toile de Jouy Sauvage motif for actual book covers. Last but not least, the grand finale: never-before-seen accessories like the Cigale Bag joined the Spring 2026 lineup.

The designer's take on the one-strap bag trend appeared in more shades and finishes than any other Anderson-era purse, including black, burgundy, peony pink, terracotta alligator, and even Himalayan croc. Each version brought its Fall 1952 namesake—Christian Dior's equally architectural "La Cigale" dress—back to life as a strong yet graceful It bag.

Anderson told Business of Fashion the Cigale is one of his "favorite dresses in history," setting high expectations for its accessory conversion. "I was never going to start Dior without referring to it, because for me, it is one of the greatest feats of engineering in terms of a dress." A press release further revealed he was especially inspired by the tea-length dress's "fitted bodice, full moiré skirt, and pronounced pleats."

As the eye scans the silhouette, the Cigale Bag mirrors the artifact's structural, lean-to-voluminous evolution. The dress—which also influenced former lead designers like Raf Simons and Maria Grazia Chuiri—is proof a reference this timeless will never run the risk of feeling overdone.

Before the Cigale became a pop star essential, Monica Barbaro and Greta Lee styled the trapezoidal, top-handle tote in Dior's Paris Fashion Week front row. Lee modeled the bag's metal-ring bow beneath sky blue leather, a Spring 2026 color trend that didn't make it on the runway. Then, fellow brand ambassador Barbaro gave the peony pink Cigale an off-the-catwalk close-up.

Within minutes, the One Night Only star's bag took center stage in Anderson's debut fashion show. Fashion people in the front row probably didn't put two and two together that quickly. But before long, constant Cigale sightings were guaranteed.

Within weeks, Dior Cigale became a fixture of pop star fashion. Ariana Grande was absent from Anderson's first womenswear front row, but clearly, she and her stylist, Law Roach, watched from afar. The black Cigale modernized the Grammy winner's vintage-heavy Dior collection in the midst of her Wicked: For Good press tour.

By wearing the new Dior design in New York City, Grande gave fans a closer look at the Cigale's hidden logo. Two silver or yellow gold grommets atop the back of the bag kept the singular, short strap structured. One of the oversize eyelets doubled as the "O" in Dior.

A few months later, the Dior Cigale was noticeably absent from January's Couture Spring 2026 show. But it didn't skip Couture Week altogether. The night after Rihanna RSVP'd "yes" to Anderson's latest showing, she flaunted the shrunken Small Cigale all around Paris.

Its envelope-style body and petal-like bow seemed to be about half the size of Grande's version. What used to be matte, smooth, and texture-free suddenly became super glossy atop croc-embossed leather. Even the top-handle strap changed from calfskin to chainlink. Perhaps this was a custom gift from Anderson to brand ambassador RiRi.

It seems Anderson enlisted the help of Rihanna to tease the Dior Cigale's next era. The one-strap bag returned throughout the Fall 2026 fashion show, but the folded, now-recognizable leather looked more eccentric than ever. Neutral Cigales remained an everyday celebrity staple, but powder blue croc, dark green lizard, and pebbled polka-dotted leather fit for maximalists joined the roster, too.

By mid-May's Cruise 2027 show, Dior added leading color trend to its ever-expanding palette Cigale palette: butter yellow. Who better to present it than Sabrina Carpenter, a pro-butter It girl since 2024? The "Nonsense" singer's naked dress and pastel Cigale were shade-matched to perfection. Even her bow-tied mules got the butter yellow memo.

The Dior Cigale is collecting It colors left and right, but in the end, it's Hollywood's most beloved black bag of 2026. Everybody needs one, even Taylor Swift. One month after the pop star fueled Toy Story 5 soundtrack rumors with Anderson's Pixar ball-yellow Lady Dior, the black Cigale third-wheeled Swift's date night at the NBA Eastern Conference Finals.

As if the Dior Cigale wasn't enviable enough, more endorsements from Jennifer Lawrence, Karlie Kloss, and Charli xcx proved it's already becoming a status symbol. Right now, an in-person appointment is required to get your hands on the Cigale. Spring 2026 shades will currently set you back $4,900 or $5,500, depending on small or medium sizing. The price tags for exotic Fall 2026 finishes remain a mystery, however.

The nine-month-old Dior Cigale already has all the makings of a collector's item: Its shape is effortlessly chic, its craftsmanship top-tier, and its shoppable status just elusive enough. Fashion people of yesteryear likely used those exact truths when introducing the Lady Dior, Saddle, and Book Totes. Welcome to the family, Cigale.

If Charli xcx had televised her July 2025 wedding, British royal family-style, I imagine it would've looked something like the London premiere of Wuthering Heights.

Please rise for the showing of Charli xcx's custom Erdem gown inside the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square on February 5. Marking quite the dramatic shift from her actual wedding dress (a Vivienne Westwood mini), the Grammy winner posed in an off-the-shoulder ballgown, crafted entirely from chantilly lace. It wasn't black or neon green, and yet, she looked every bit a brat-zilla bride. Maybe it was the distressed black embroidery atop her bust—or threads dangling down her silhouette—that grounded the powder pink fabric in brat-ism.

Adding to the aisle-ready allure, Charli's stylist, Chris Horan, crowned her bombshell blowout with a carpet-grazing veil. The almost-pink curtain softened the gown with a haunting fog only rivaled by the English moors. At the same time, it almost made us miss the skirt's delicate drapery atop her hips.

Her husband, The 1975's drummer George Daniel, didn't walk the red carpet with his pop star wife. That said, it seems Charli's choice of wedding-wear was less about reliving her bridal days, and more a form of method dressing. (Clearly, method dresser Margot Robbie is leaving a mark on her.)

Five weddings take place during Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights novel, including one with Robbie's Cathy Earnshaw seen in the trailer. Perhaps Charli was inspired by the actor's elongated veil and off-the-shoulder wedding gown for the film adaptation.

Just like Cathy around the trailer's 50-second mark, Charli kept her décolletage free of a necklace. Instead, sapphire and diamond drop earrings from London label Barron peeked out beneath the frothy veil.

Last July, Charli said "I do" with a veil attached to her hair, though it wasn't nearly as extravagant as her Erdem version. She was spotted outside London's Hackney Town Hall in Vivienne Westwood's corseted Nova Cora Dress: a $5,010, off-the-shoulder mini delicately draped from ivory satin.

The "365" singer's veil also hailed from Vivienne Westwood's catalog, a perfect pick for a London girl-turned-bride. However, it had been altered to stop around her thighs. It also wasn't a blusher veil—Charli's shield-like sunglasses covered her face enough.

Charli got hitched to Daniel again last September in Sicily, dressed in a custom, slip-inspired Danielle Frankel gown. Since she walked down that Italian aisle veil-less, maybe she's making up for it with her London Wuthering Heights look. Either way, "everything is romantic" about this moment.

This story contains spoilers for The Moment. Minutes into The Moment, Charli xcx asks a question that defines the entire mockumentary. Speaking to her manager, Tim (played by Jamie Demetriou), she posits if the Atlantic Records-backed director Johannes (Alexander Skarsgård) “makes adverts for women." Tim responds confused, assuming the pop star is referring to Johannes’s commercial work he’s unaware of. But Charli is, in fact, talking about the glossy, controlled tour movies and pop docs he’s known for; she just sees them as no more than A-listers carefully curating their image. “No, like the woman is the advert.”

The Moment may very well be Charli xcx’s own form of brand management—but it’s also an anti-capitalist critique of the music industry and its proclivity to turn female artists into sellable brands. While the A24 film—set after the release of the British artist’s 2024 album brat, as she prepares for a tour—has seen rightful comparisons to This Is Spinal Tap and Spice World, it’s also like the less referenced early ‘00s spon-con, subliminal messaging send-up Josie and the Pussycats. Much like Josie, Charli's film is a pop machine reckoning, and it most shines in all its neon, strobing glory when she satirizes how quickly a musician’s art can be stripped of its meaning to become a parody of itself.

Throughout The Moment (in theaters January 30), almost everyone around the fictionalized version of the avant-pop musician tests how far they can push her into being an “advert,” rather than an artist. So while Charli xcx could’ve made a traditional tour movie like many before her (and as her label originally approached her to), she, co-writer/director Aidan Zamiri, and co-writer Bertie Brandes seemingly took the opportunity to depict how detrimental it can be to musicians, fans, and culture at large when female artists and their art become a product to milk for all that they’re “worth.” As The Moment illustrates, even if a woman has crafted a cultural moment deemed bankable by industry insiders and marketing execs, she’s nothing to them if not continuously exploited.

In a time when “the pop girlies” run music, the film feels like a timely, cautionary statement.

The Moment essentially imagines what could have come of the pop cultural phenomenon sparked by brat, were it to have fallen out of Charli xcx’s creative control. Early on in the movie, the singer is made to participate in an overtly outrageous (if on-the-nose) capitalist scheme: launching a lime-green credit card in collaboration with her label and a bank. Signing up comes with a tie-in to secure tickets to the brat tour, ensuring the label’s excitement, and it also helps the bank reach its absurd goal of targeting younger, queerer clients. But only Charli is to blame when the rollout doesn’t go as planned.

In another plot line, the hitmaker is told her concert film must appeal to a wider audience (read: garner as many viewers on Prime Video as possible), rather than speak to her own fan base. That means that any decision she and her creative director, Celeste (Hailey Gates)—the genius behind brat’s original success—try to make is ignored and side-stepped by a man who seems to think he knows better.

In these scenes, it’s hard not to empathize with the real Charli xcx when she, too, became a mockable trend for brands to cash in on. As much as the star in the film wrestles with whether she should fear the end of “the moment” she’s been having or go to dangerous lengths so it never dies, one thing she seems certain of is what a loss of self feels like when her art is no longer hers. It’s an especially pertinent message coming from the “Von Dutch” singer, who, for years, was considered a hyperpop pioneer solely because of her talent. Now, with a platform, she seems to be saying, if the music industry is going to revel in the women leading the charge, that shouldn’t come at the expense of their artistry and personhood.

By the end of The Moment, Charli loses herself, too, saying she’s doing so in a concerted effort to “kill” brat. It’s not unlike the movie’s purpose in reality, ushering in the next phase of the musician-turned-actress’s career while also reclaiming ownership over a project that became bigger than itself. In many ways, it feels just as much like the artist making a promise to herself. But at the very least, she’s laughing at the possibility that she could buy into whatever “advert of a woman” that the industry might try to make of her. After all, that’s pretty fucking brat.

Thanks to Charli xcx's mockumentary, The Moment, Kylie Jenner can add "movie star" to her resume. At the film's premiere, the mogul-turned-actor embraced her new title the only way she knew how: with a Maison Margiela look to rival red carpet veterans.

L.A.'s Fine Arts Theatre transformed into brat headquarters on January 29. Alexandra and Mackenzie Grandquist—the same sister styling duo behind Jenner's recent award season gowns—got their hands on Look 52 from Maison Margiela Spring 2026, creative director Glenn Marten's ready-to-wear debut. The Khy founder's cream-colored halter-top glamorized brat sleaze with a cascading ruffle crop top and a distressed maxi. A nude plastic waistband gave the black lace on top a certain duct-tape-like shine, which stretched down the skirt's liquified satin train.

As is custom for the Kardashian-Jenners, she took some creative liberties with the look. The biggest change? The two-piece debuted on the catwalk as one, with beige boning connecting the top and skirt, whereas Jenner went for more of a low-rise, bellybutton-baring moment. She also opted out of Maison Margiela's cheek-retracting mouthpiece seen throughout Martens' entire 61-piece runway collection. (Huge pear-shaped diamond earrings from Lorraine Schwartz frosted Jenner's ears instead.)

Head Party Girl Charli xcx couldn't premiere a movie without an equally-iconic after party. Jenner, of course, made another grand entrance at Craig's in West Hollywood, this time in a piece of fashion history: Martin Margiela's Fall 1997 "Semi Couture" bodice. (The vintage find recently sold on Annie's Ibiza for $20,750. Could Jenner have been the lucky buyer?)

The elongated, skintight tunic mimicked the look of burlap with neutral linen, with hook-eye closures running down the front. (Jenner left a few open around her bust.) On the runway, the brand layered its hip-hugging hem over an ivory slip skirt, which Jenner traded for a black leather midi. For the finishing touches, she removed her diamond earrings and slipped on pointy black pumps.

If you didn't gather from her award season attire, Jenner has more than enough sartorial prowess to become a full-blown movie star. Her role in The Moment—both on-screen and on the press tour—marks just the start of yet another successful business venture.

Emerald Fennell didn't cast Charli xcx in her book-to-film adaptation of Wuthering Heights, but composing its leading songs secured the pop star's spot on the press tour. On January 28 alone, she matched Margot Robbie's energy with not one, not two, but three separate step-and-repeats. Prepare to "fall in love again and again" with each one.

For her first official Wuthering Heights event, Charli joined Robbie, Jacob Elordi, and Fennell at a Beverly Hills junket. She posed for photographers wearing a vintage knit cardigan and camisole from John Galliano Fall 2003. Sheer lace sleeves and floral embroidery attached her two-piece to the film's gothic Victorian glamour, while the black color combination made it just brat-core enough.

The industry's elite wasted no time trading their red carpet looks for more comfortable ensembles, though their definition of "comfortable" ranged from fresh-off-the-runway finds to not-so-vintage vintage. Stars split up between three major award season soirées: one hosted by Nikki Glaser, another by Netflix, and the last by Vas J. Morgan.

Glaser's get-together was perhaps the most elevated, welcoming guests like Priyanka Chopra and Jennifer Lopez in fresh floor-length gowns. Morgan brought out actors' more relaxed sides—Zoë Kravitz, Emma Stone, Ana de Armas, and Blackpink's Lisa all toned it down in sheer or thigh-grazing dresses. Netflix's bash married the two, proven by Amal Clooney in a chainmail Versace mini.

No matter their post-show style, a time was had at 2026 Golden Globes after parties, so prepare to feel major FOMO from last night's looks.

Though George Clooney's Jay Kelly didn't score any wins at the 2026 Golden Globes, the Clooneys still shined at Netflix's after party. The human rights activist traded her crimson red Balmain gown for an olive green Versace mini, made of metallic mesh. Strategically-placed pins held the boatneck top and skirt together, complementing her yellow gold Gianvito Rossi pumps, Cartier earrings, and clutch.

Zoë Kravitz

You may recognize the sheer lace bodice on Kravitz's after-party look—that's because stylist Danielle Goldberg outfitted her in the mini version of her boudoir-inspired, Saint Laurent red carpet gown. Even her button-back Jessica McCormack earrings and Saint Laurent mules remained the same. The only difference? Kravitz's first slip's yellow waist ribbon was nowhere to be found.

Tessa Thompson

Karla Welch styled Tessa Thompson in Balenciaga for both the Golden Globes ceremony and after parties. She changed into a leather little black dress with a curved feather hem (inspired by Pierpaolo Piccioli's debut collection) for the latter.

Elle and Dakota Fanning

Elle and Dakota Fanning walked the Golden Globes red carpet separately, but they were side by side on the after-party scene. Perhaps they changed looks in the same stretcher van—they do share a stylist in Samantha McMillen, after all. Elle led the way into Morgan's L.A. party wearing a plunging black dress, while Dakota followed closely behind in a pink, feather-lined gown.

Teyana Taylor

Teyana Taylor was all smiles after winning her first Golden Globe for Best Supporting Female Actor in a Motion Picture. Her custom Schiaparelli gown—in all its exposed thong glory—peeked out from beneath a graffiti-inspired coat from Satoshi Nakamoto. Her bright red slippers looked spray-painted, too.

Emma Stone

Emma Stone has never been one to conduct a sartorial one-eighty between award show pit stops. This year, the Oscar winner (and stylist Petra Flannery) kept her fringe butter yellow skirt from the Golden Globes red carpet in rotation, swapping her crop top for a fuzzy white cardigan. Louis Vuitton's Pochette Métis Bag secured Stone's essentials.

Charli xcx

Charli xcx held down the fort at the Chateau Marmont in a pair of pinstriped trousers and a sheer button-down. The ribbed, ruffle-trimmed long-sleeved blouse revealed a nude bra underneath, which felt surprisingly laid-back for the statement lingerie supporter.

Brittany Snow

The Hunting Wives star looked every bit a Golden Globes regular at the Netflix after-party, too. Her second, cap-sleeve gown evoked Old Hollywood charm with tiered strings of horizontal beads, while the bustier bodice aligned it with the red carpet corset trend.

Lisa

Blackpink's Lisa switched dresses twice at the 2026 Golden Globes—first from a sheer Jacquemus number into a Thom Brown Spring 2026 select to present the award for Best Male Actor—Television. Once the broadcast wrapped, she traded that for a naked Enfants Riches Déprimés dress, featuring an opaque bow at the neckline and a contrasting waistline, which added dimension.

Ana de Armas

Similar to Kravitz, Ana de Armas attended Morgan's affair in a flirtier version of her Golden Globes red carpet look: a Louis Vuitton maxi made up of entirely transparent lace. She carried the brand's Malle Bag boasting the famous Monogram print, just like her double LV gym bags from last week.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas

Chopra Jonas revived the red carpet corset trend at Glaser's invite-only event. Hers was delicately draped beneath a gray cowl neck and matching waistband.

Jennifer Lopez

With a red carpet gown that naked, fans expected J.Lo to go even sultrier for the Golden Globes after parties, but she went the rhinestone route instead. A Tamara Ralph Fall 2025 Haute Couture gown caught stylists' Mariel Haenn and Rob Zangardi eyes on the runway, presumably for its hand-beaded bodice and fringed bust.

Over the past few years, Anthony Vaccarello's Saint Laurent has become synonymous with jewel tones, formfitting minis, and strong shoulders. (Oh, and Hailey Bieber.) That flavor of '80s-tinged exuberance was on full display at the brand's Spring 2026 show on Monday, the eve of Paris Fashion Week—not just on the runway, but on many of the label's most loyal celebrities.

Collectively, front row show-goers co-signed a slew of nostalgic trends the fashion set has been enthusiastically rallying around. The windbreaker agenda got a compelling endorsement from newlywed Charli XCX, who wore her blue-trimmed crimson style over a lacy peach négligée-like mini dress.

Bieber, too, donned a cinnamon-colored pull-over, hers styled with lace-trimmed yellow short-shorts, sheer tights, and red mule stilettos.

Then, there were the pronounced shoulder pads—a signature of Vaccarello's (seen across tops, dresses, and outerwear in his previous collections) and a favorite of the era.

The shape of Zoë Kravitz's cropped trench juxtaposed nicely against the soft lines of her yellow slip dress. Teyana Taylor's emerald green coat dress, meanwhile, drew a sharp, angular silhouette, made that much dramatic by her blue leather gloves and the eggplant-colored turtleneck which peeked out from underneath.

Even the oversized moto jackets—as worn by Emmy winner Cristin Milioti and fashion's most eligible it boy Chris Briney—boasted the strong shoulders. (Connie Baby has really been everywhere this season: Before landing in Paris, he was at both the Chanel fragrance and Valentino Beauty parties, as well as the Cos and Calvin Klein shows, in New York.)

‘90s prep—in all of its relaxed, rich, and studied nonchalance—is back. Boat shoes are everywhere. Rugby shirts have had a renaissance. And energized by images from Ryan Murphy’s upcoming American Love Story series on Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy and John F. Kennedy Jr., the internet commentariat can’t stop arguing about how to do the era’s signature style justice.

But for Brynn Wallner, founder of the massively popular luxury watch platform Dimepiece, reviving ‘90s prep in the ripe year of 2025 came down to pulling one specific piece out of the vault: the Timex Intrepid, a stainless steel sailing watch beloved by JFK Jr. during the decade—only this time, reworking it so women can wear the timepiece, too.

A pioneer within the women's watch collecting space, Wallner partnered with Alan Bedwell, a vintage watch dealer and founder of Foundwell, and the American watch brand to release the Timex Intrepid Dimepiece edition, launching today, August 7. “It’s a scaled-down, more femme-friendly version of the watch at 36mm (versus the 46mm of the original) that’s super easy to wear, regardless of gender and wrist size,” Wallner says over email. “It also feels very true to my personal style, which is inspired by '90s prep and the promise of New England—summers swimming in the ocean, tan skin, salty hair, taking long walks, getting invited on sailboats, blackberry soft serve, etc.”

Wallner reconnected with the Timex Intrepid on a deep dive of JFK Jr.’s image archive, coming across a photo of the late, legendary American attorney and publisher wearing the 1995 dive-inspired, water-resistant watch. She and Bedwell, who’ve worked together since 2021 curating watch collections for luxury retailer Dover Street Market and selling pieces to Charli XCX, Bad Bunny, and Debby Ryan, had an instinct that the piece would succeed as a modern-day revival. Not only because of the preppy landscape of 2025’s trends, but since the Timex Intrepid 1995 taps into the enduring appeal of John-John—“everyone seems to be cosplaying like they're part of the Kennedy family right now,” as Wallner puts it.

The duo reached out to Timex and proposed a rerelease of the Intrepid 1995, which took shape in a spring 2025 drop of the throwback style that sold out shortly after its initial release. “Timex’s reissued Intrepid 1995 also found its way onto the actor Paul Kelly in BTS shots of Ryan Murphy's American Love Story, a huge validation for us,” Wallner adds.

But Timex’s smaller-sized, quartz movement team-up with Dimepiece, Wallner’s first-ever watch design collaboration, is an achievement that represents far more than just the endurance of prepster style and Kennedy’s everlasting cool. It’s a step within the watch industry—a notoriously exclusive, slow-moving, and typically boys-only club—toward genuine inclusion.

“Somewhere around the Y2K era,” Wallner explains, “most watch brands halted production on their smaller sports watches, and watches marketed to women were stripped of their simplicity in favor of diamonds, pink dials, and other stereotypically girly attributes. My style is more gender-neutral with a borrowed-from-the-boys vibe, which I felt was missing from modern watch offerings. Of course, I love a slinky Cartier Panthère or a gem-set Chopard watch, but I was craving something sporty and gender neutral, yet cute—which is what this Timex is. It satisfies my desire for what I want to see more of in the industry.”

Here’s a fun fact about me: when I’m not writing about my favorite summer fashion trends, I spend most of the warm-weather season at my favorite concerts. And, after so many years of trial-and-error, I’ve managed to curate the best long-lasting beauty routine that doesn’t dry out my already-dry and dehydrated skin.

The latest of my live music escapades was the first of Charli XCX’s sold-out four-night Brat Tour extravaganza in Brooklyn, New York. I went to the Sweat Tour twice last year, and have been a fan of hers since her True Romance days. Brat was also my favorite album of last year (two of the songs off it were in my top-five on Spotify: ”Von Dutch” and “360,” if you were wondering). This was the concert event on my calendar.

So, I had to go all-out with a glimmering Brat green makeup look to celebrate seeing my favorite Essex girl in concert. But I needed my beauty routine to last through several hours of screaming, crying, and yes, sweating. I had general admission floor seats! It's to be expected.

Can one accessory be all things to all people? I didn't always think so, until I started tracking the Chanel 25 bag's rapid ascent to It-item status.

New Chanel accessories tend to start a frenzy, whether they're a variation on the house's cap-toe slingback heels or a surprisingly sexy flat. (A patent leather glove flat has also been inescapable in my fashion editor circle this spring.) But the response to the Chanel 25 bag, which debuted on the Spring 2025 runway at Paris Fashion Week last September, reappeared for Metiers d'Art in December, and arrived in boutiques this spring at last, was like nothing I'd seen before.

For one, it kickstarted a broader cargo bag trend. In all three sizes (small, medium, and large), the Chanel 25's trapezoidal main compartment is bookended by two defined outer pockets, each embellished with gold, double-C hardware. That handy bit of extra storage would make its way to dozens more houses a season later. For another, built-in organization transcended the classic Chanel girl's closet—where ballet flats, quilted leather, and collarless tweed sets are in rotation no matter the season—to appeal to everyone seeking a functional work bag or travel tote in its most luxurious form. Of course, the longtime devotees and very important clients a note for a personal shopper to track it down, too.

Editors lusted over the bag from afar (and one lucky Who What Wear writer got to review it early) until it hit stores. Dua Lipa was the first major name to show off the Chanel 25's appeal in real time. It wasn't an accident: She was tapped to be its face in a global campaign lensed by David Sims. "It’s the perfect kind of bag for me as someone who’s always on the move and likes to carry around everything," the musician said in an interview accompanying the style's release, "especially because it’s got these great pockets for all my favorite things."

She could have left her obsession in front of the camera and in the front row of Chanel's Haute Couture show. (There, she carried the bag with a floor-sweeping cape and a giant hair bow that was a gift to behold.) But she convinced me of her genuine love by carrying it a staggering number of times this spring.

It joined her inner circle on tour in Australia and New Zealand—where Dua packed it in pink, silver, yellow, and black. On the move between shows, she tapped the black and silver versions as an alternative to a basic travel tote. Callum Turner, her fiancé, is often the third wheel to Dua and her Chanel 25 when they go out for dinner in London.

Even when she's grabbing takeout, as she was caught on April 17, she also cashes out with her bag attached to her shoulder. When she said the Chanel 25 bag could carry "everything," she meant it.

Dua Lipa proved the Chanel 25 bag's infinite functionality: There was no situation or outfit she couldn't pair it with. Charli XCX co-signed its range—at Coachella, of all places.

In a press release upon the Chanel 25's release, the house said it was "spacious enough to carry a computer, tablet, phone, treasures and other little secrets." I imagine it's that last group that Charli piled inside for her first weekend at Coachella this year, where she paired her Chanel 25 to boho-chic ruffled dresses and low-slung, club rat maxi skirts. Forget a clear plastic belt bag or a drawstring knapsack. When you're everyone's favorite reference, you deserve a bag they'll want to reference, too. And yes: The bag undoubtedly had room for changes of clothes and snacks for a day partying in the desert.

Each person who picks up the Chanel 25 bag extends the list of places it can go and roles it can play. Really, the bag has enough space to carry someone's entire life, no matter what it looks like—and keep it organized with all those pockets. Model Kelsey Merritt styled the white quilted 25 with jeans and a T-shirt. Aimee Song positioned her black Chanel 25 for transitional spring layering with capri pants and a scarf coat. Mariah Carey coordinated the small black 25 with a ruched mini dress and knee-high boots for—wait for it—"late night grocery shopping" posted to Instagram.

If a Chanel 25 somehow appeared in my closet (I wish!), I'd deploy it like Blackpink star Jennie. She joined Dua Lipa in the Chanel 25's campaign earlier this year, but has exclusively carried the largest version out and about. Decked out in bag charms and clip-on stuffed animals, the 25 is her copilot for international travel. Quilted and gilded in gold chains, it's several levels above a classic under-the-seat travel bag (but just as functional).

Something tells me Chanel 25 sightings are only getting started. I'd love to see Taylor Swift work the bag into her game-day wardrobe, or Beyoncé bring it to her Cowboy Carter tour. I also sense the bag will find fans in female founders, writers, and executives—women with busy lives, varied personal styles, and a need for a bag that can keep up with their schedule.

It's in Chanel's DNA to provide it. Decades before the Chanel 25 bag was even a sketch, Gabrielle Chanel revolutionized handbags by adding a strap allowing her to carry her bag—the quilted flap we now know as the Chanel 2.55—over her shoulder. At the 2.55's debut in 1955, elegant, day-to-day bags that could be carried-hands free were few and far between. Seventy years later, the Chanel 25 is that liberating design's heir apparent: able to travel anywhere and with (almost) anything inside.

Charli XCX was everyone's favorite reference on the 2025 Grammys red carpet. The British pop star truly pulled out all the stops for her long-overdue anointment at the ceremony, where she's nominated in seven categories for her album Brat and its singles, including "360," "Apple," "Von Dutch," and "Guess."

Styled for the occasion by frequent collaborator Chris Horan, the 32-year-old looked like she'd just finished a long night of clubbing in a hand-shredded dusty blue chiffon gown from Jean Paul Gaultier. She accessorized the custom Grammys red carpet corset dress with black cut-out thong sandal boots, diamond stud earrings, and a naked pedicure. But when the self-professed party girl takes the stage for a performance later in the evening, she'll likely change into something that allows her strut and jump around the stage more freely.

Her glam for the evening paired a feline matte brown smoky eye with nude lips and Cher-length brunette curls. Throughout her Brat era, Charli has been rocking her natural hair texture in a symbolic act of defiance. Seeing her reprise the style on the red carpet tonight was a delicious full-circle moment.

Charli XCX has attended the Grammy Awards twice before, but tonight marks her first time being nominated and asked to perform. Prior this album cycle, I would even go so far as to say she was beefing with the 67-year-old awards show.

Still, I don't think I fully appreciated just how far the pop star has come until I revisited her 2017 Grammys red carpet appearance. Don't get me wrong. She looked powerful and gorgeous in her ruby brocade Vivienne Westwood sweetheart-neckline dress and matching Gianvito Rossi ribbon stilettos. Timeless glamour is timeless for a reason! It's hard to imagine the self-assured Charli XCX we know today choosing to play it so safe, but it was an endearingly conservative choice for mid-twenties Charli.

There is a kind of glamour in the anti-glamour of Brat fashion, though. At the 2024 Met Gala, for example, the singer walked the red carpet in a bitchy punk-rock gown made from fifteen artfully shredded and draped white T-shirts. Dreamt into existence by Horan and Marni creative director Francesco Risso, the distressed patchwork dress was one of the evening's best interpretations of the chosen theme: “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” Vampy eggplant-colored lipstick and a spiky Edward Scissorhands-esque updo tied the edgy ensemble together.

Charli also wore a custom Marni gown to the 2024 BRIT Awards, only a week after announcing the release of Brat. With a corset chest-plate and a dramatic train, the colorful creation mimicked the look of watercolor paints pooling together in a palette. Pinned hair kept the focus on her exaggerated cat-eye makeup, which paired taupe shadow with white liquid outline for an editorial take on winged liner.

It would be so gratifying to see Charli XCX sweep the 2025 Grammys. But no matter what happens, the hyper-pop pioneer will leave the ceremony with another iconic red carpet look under studded belt. She's just living that life.

Musically and aesthetically, Taylor Swift and Charli XCX are polar opposites: Charli being the gritty, hyperpop princess and Swift a polished performer. But the one thing they do have in common, apparently, is a $420 handbag they both styled to perfection.

On Nov. 12, Charli was photographed in NYC looking every bit the brat. She went for a classic combo: denim and fur, styling a cropped coat from Unreal Fur with a pair of longline Ksubi jorts.

Carrying a Taylor Swift-approved handbag is an undeniable flex, but let's not forget Charli's pièce de résistance: a pair of denim-lined leather boots. The joots are from a collaboration between Jimmy Choo and Jean Paul Gaultier—they're basically archival in the making.

On Charli XCX's album Brat, the British pop star paints a vivid picture of what a brat wears. Sleazy early-aughts style is her fashion north star—specifically anything bedazzled and by Von Dutch. She's in a "sheer white dress, wearing last night's makeup" with "sweat marks all on [her] clothes." Her fishnets are ripped (accidentally snagged "on a lawn chair").

But what do you wear to a Charli XCX concert if 2000s fashion trends make your skin crawl? Or, what if your fashion is genuinely grungy and brat-esque, but you've been waiting to see the singer live for over a decade and suddenly can't think of a Charli XCX concert outfit to mark the momentous occasion?

Six Marie Claire team members (myself included) recently pondered these very questions in our Slack chat. We all had tickets to see the hyperpop star's sold-out show at Madison Square Garden on September 23 during her co-headlining "Sweat Tour" with Troye Sivan, but we had no idea what to wear.

Bright brat green came up as an outfit option, of course. But few of us own the ugly-on-purpose chartreuse (and I personally didn't want to buy a lime green garment that would hurt my eyes). The no-pants trend came up, too, since it's a constant of Charli's. Fashion e-commerce editor Julia Marzovilla found going pantsless a touch too much: "No-pants isn't a total no, but not for my work-endorsed concert 'fit," she said. But Sadie Bell, senior culture editor and a long-time Charli's Angel, saw the trend as the perfect homage to one of her "all-time favorite artists." Plus, Bell already owned the perfect pair of thigh-high Steve Madden boots to balance out her micro shorts.

And that's the beauty of being a brat. There's no rule book. Nuance is encouraged because Charli's club is free to enter and doesn't discriminate. Anyone can be a brat—America's next potential president, Kamala Harris, is a Charli-certified brat, and Kyle MacLachlan (as in Trey from Sex and the City and Dale Cooper from Twin Peaks) had floor tickets to see the star perform on the "Sweat Tour." It's not what you wear; it's the unabashed, don't-eff-with-me confidence that's crucial to brat-titude.

Favorite Charli XCX song: Of the modern era, “Sympathy is a knife.” As a child of Tumblr, “Boom Clap” will always have a special place in my heart.

Her connection with Charli: On paper, I am the last person you'd expect to see thrashing around at the "Sweat Tour." I have a strict nighttime wind-down routine that ends with me cuddled under my comforter with an Emily Henry novel by 9:30 pm. I don't want to hear "club classics" when I go to the club—because I don't want to go to the club, period.

But, plot twist: I've been a Charli fan since high school. “Break the Rules” was my anthem for early morning drives to my AP Biology lab before class. I always went to school and never broke the rules—but listening to Charli let me tap into my imaginary alter-ego who would. And lyrically, Brat really resonated with my experiences as an almost 30-year-old.

Halie's Charli XCX concert outfit: To stay up on a school night, I referenced Charli's Brat era with an outfit that's comfy enough to sleep or dance in. I repurposed a 'Bling Ring' T-shirt from Sofia Coppola's Uniqlo collaboration—Alexis Niers is both a brat and brat in the Charli sense—with a pleated skort and lug-sole boots. Strathberry's sleek crossbody bag was both security- and fashion-girl-approved. I am more of a nap girl than a party girl, but I felt wide awake at the show. I didn't even leave early!

Julia's Charli XCX concert outfit: The “360” video is one of my favorites of the entire year, so I had to copy one of the (very easy) looks that Charli wore. Also, how could I pass up on the chance to sing I’m “soooo Julia” all night long?

To make the outfit appropriate for wearing around my co-workers, I swapped a pair of underwear for a micro-mini skort. A white tank top from Hanes, a black bralette, and a pair of flat knee-high boots like the ones Charli has worn throughout the Brat album cycle completed the look. Hers are vintage Prada, but I opted for my go-to pair from Stuart Weitzman—they’re comfortable enough to dance around in.

It’s So Confusing Sometimes to Be a Girl (And Put Outfits Together)

Favorite Brat lyric: "And it's just self-defense until you're building a weapon," from “Girl, so confusing featuring lorde." This line was penned by Lorde, the prophet for all angsty and anxious women, and it also gets at what I think is the core theme of Brat. Underneath a brat's bravado and power-strutting ("Girl, you walk like a bitch!") is a gooey, emotional center. Brats make mistakes, as all humans do, and can sometimes hurt people when doing damage control. But then—and this is the best part—we can work it out on the remix.

Can you do the Apple dance? Yes, but badly, and only in the comfort of my private, sub-30-followers TikTok account.

Emma's Charli XCX concert outfit: The "Sweat Tour" was not an easy occasion to dress for. I'm a relatively new but fervent Charli fan—"Vroom Vroom" made it onto my getting-ready playlist during college, but I didn't get my angel wings until "Crash"—and I wanted to do the star justice. So, after three outfit changes, two desperate re-watches of the "360" video, and one panic FaceTime to a friend, here is where we landed: a graphic, collage-printed skirt by the independent brand Ellis, a black Bimba y Lola leather jacket, and my best slingback heels by Sam Edelman.

I chose a black east-west bag by Freja to carry my essentials (chapstick and a portable charger) and finished with paparazzi blockers by Otra because wearing "sunglasses always: indoor, at night, so you can't see" is Charli gospel.

Why did you go to the show Because Charli is one of pop’s biggest innovators of the past decade, and it’s very fulfilling that the world has caught up to them. She's finally having the moment she’s always deserved! (And because her team was kind enough to give me a press ticket.)

Sadie's Charli XCX concert outfit: Throughout the Brat album cycle, Charli has sported a few key pieces that are ideal rave wear. I opted to wear a few of them to the "Sweat Tour:" hot pants and a baby tee. I specifically wore a graphic tee with very snarky lettering because it leaned into the “tearing-shit-apart” “Mean Girls” trope the hyper-pop star plays with on the record.

To complement the short shorts, I paired the look with thigh-high boots—all of which were easy to dance in. After all, "Sweat" is a tour that asks, “What if you turned an arena into a club?” so you might as well dress like you’re at a warehouse party where anything goes.

Brat and It’s the Same, but I Found I Out Was Going to This Concert 6 Hours Ago

What she admires about the star: I think Charli's the coolest. She’s honest and stark and has a perspective that feels uniquely her own. She doesn’t make you want to be like her; she makes you want to be more like yourself.

Lucia's Charli XCX concert outfit: Finding out you secured tickets to the hottest tour of the moment mere hours before doors open? That’s Brat! With less than a full workday to think up a look, I did what I always do when in a pinch: pinch harder! I gave myself 45 minutes to choose a 'fit and head out the door, which quickly led me to the one Brat Green item in my wardrobe. The radioactive-tinged knit turtleneck was both the centerpiece and an act of method dressing (see: "Sweat Tour")—and it made the rest of my outfit process easy.

I paired my brat green top with oversized, low-rise cargo pants and a “lacy black pair (of underwear) with the little bows.” The rest of the look was mostly inspired by a Charli vibe: an extra-long vintage belt that could double as a whip, the sharpest pair of black boots I own, and a custom-engraved "Charli XCX" Pandora charm necklace.

Aesthetically Brat, Emotionally Barbie

Being a forever brat: I’m a baby brat in terms of [Charli's] music, but I’ve been on that brat aesthetic since high school. I have a lifelong love of fishnet tights and I basically grew up in a Hot Topic.

...but minus the lifestyle: My general vibe is brat, but my resume doesn't support being a brat. I love sleeping until noon, but I probably went to bed at 11:15 p.m. the night before. I’ve also never done anything harder than a tequila shot, so my key necklace is purely ornamental.

Kelsey's Charli XCX concert outfit: I knew I wanted to do a little green moment for the Charli show and balance it out with a heavy dose of black and silver. I wore my favorite faux leather skirt and styled it with a spaghetti strap crop top in an appropriate shade of chartreuse. This look was all about the accessories: a mesh Cider bolero, studded belt, sparkly hair clips, and a key necklace I DIYed using a silver bag chain and my apartment key.

Fans of Brat have always wondered if Charli XCX wrote "Sympathy Is a Knife" about Taylor Swift. In particular, Charli references seeing one of her bandmate's girlfriends backstage, and feeling inadequate in comparison. As Swift was briefly linked to The 1975's lead singer Matty Healy, listeners inferred she was the subject of "Sympathy Is a Knife." However, Charli has responded to those allegations in a new interview.

Speaking with New York magazine, Charli explained, "People are gonna think what they want to think." She continued, "That song is about me and my feelings and my anxiety and the way my brain creates narratives and stories in my head when I feel insecure and how I don’t want to be in those situations physically when I feel self-doubt."

"This one girl taps my insecurities," Charli sings in "Sympathy Is a Knife." Later in the song, she says, "'Cause I couldn't even be her if I tried." The lyrics continue, "Don't wanna see her backstage at my boyfriend's show / Fingers crossed behind my back / I hope they break up quick."

In the same interview, Charli suggested she was intimidated by the venues The 1975 were playing. Charli is, of course, engaged to the band's drummer, George Daniel.

Charli explained, "Sometimes I’d look onstage and be like, 'Oh, my God... I'm never going to play these rooms, ever.'" She continued, "That made me feel jealous. I told Matty that. And George. They were both like, 'Shut up. What are you talking about?'"

During New York magazine's profile of Charli, Swift actually opened up about her admiration for the Brat icon. "I’ve been blown away by Charli’s melodic sensibilities since I first heard 'Stay Away' in 2011," the "Shake It Off" singer said. "Her writing is surreal and inventive, always."

Further singing Charli's praises, Swift continued, "She just takes a song to places you wouldn’t expect it to go, and she’s been doing it consistently for over a decade. I love to see hard work like that pay off."

While Charli appears to have denied writing "Sympathy Is a Knife" about Swift, it would seem the song is still very much open to interpretation.

Even if you haven’t yet pressed play on Charli XCX’s album Brat—which debuted on June 7 and has amassed 15.4 million Spotify streams, climbing to number three on the Billboard 200—you’ve probably seen the album art's signature slime-green shade.

As color trends go, brat green lacks the sunny optimism of butter yellow and the mass-market appeal of hot Barbie pink or yummy cherry red. The background color of the British pop star’s latest record is a color you won’t even find in nature—it's more akin to the radioactive glow of a nuclear plant.

But even so, #BratGreen has gone ultra-viral. Search the shade on Instagram, and the 2.6 million tagged posts will tint your phone screen green. Query the same on TikTok, and you’ll find brands like Kate Spade sharing “brat starter packs” and Twin Peaks actor Kyle MacLachlan making his own music videos in tribute to the hue with an acid green tee. It's become the color code of a potential president-to-be: After Charli XCX tweeted, "kamala IS brat," on July 21—the same day President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 race—Vice President Kamala Harris's campaign updated its official social media accounts to be bright brat green.

From memes and manicures to political iconography and brat-branded bratwursts, this very specific shade of green has taken over the world like a putrid plague.

And brat summer is just the beginning, with the fashion world brewing its own form of vile green. In McQueen by Seán McGirr's Fall 2024 show, there were slime green three-piece knit sets and alien-hued sculpted mini dresses. Fendi, Jason Wu, and Brandon Maxwell's collections adopted the same color scheme, while Gucci’s Fall 2024 collection featured an earthly, self-described "rotten" shade of its own.

If the color distresses you, well, that’s the point of such an off-putting shade. Rather than calming the masses with a color psychologically proven to soothe and subdue, Charli XCX chose something controversial. “I’d like for us to question our expectations of pop culture—why are some things considered good and acceptable and some deemed bad? I’m interested in the narratives behind that and want to provoke people," the singer told Vogue Singapore in her April cover story.

Miuccia Prada took the same approach to her "Ugly Chic" Spring 1996 collection that garnered attention with pencil skirts, button-down blouses, and plaid pants in a murky brown-green later anointed as Miuccia sludge. Her show was a foil to the era's Tom Ford Gucci gowns and the naked dresses John Galliano sent down the runway for Dior. "Prada's philosophy behind this collection was to upend the idea of 'bad taste' via fashion and show how it's important to culture as a whole,” says fashion writer Viv Chen, the author of the style-meets-culture Substack newsletter The Molehill. "Sludge green, slime green—whatever you want to call it—then became a color forever associated with this [idea of anti-trends] within fashion.”

Now, Charli has done the same. Like the unpleasantness of Miuccia sludge, brat green causes a reaction—as does all good fashion, right?

As Chen puts it, "Charli XCX cleverly uses the color and its cultural connotations to create a world and mood around her new album." The singer has provided the slime green color with a storyline and its own soundtrack of clubby hyperpop, aligning itself with an archetype of It girls—the bonafide brats of the world whose personal style skews more irreverent than effortless—think Julia Fox rather than Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. To them, the best outfits are the ones that garner stares and double takes on the sidewalk. And their most prized possession is the authentic Prada Spring 1996 piece in "Ugly Chic" chartreuse that they sourced on The RealReal.

Love it or loathe it, brat green is here to stay. But if you really can't stand the slime, have faith: soon enough, the color wheel will settle on a new shade for fashion to weigh in on.

Charli XCX isn't down for her fans chanting "Taylor Swift is dead" during her shows.

One fan alerted Charli to the disturbing trend by sharing footage from her recent DJ set at a nightclub in São Paulo on Instagram, writing, "Hey @charli_xcx, your brazilian fans have been showing toxic behavior by screaming 'Taylor is dead!' in your concerts and events related to you."

The Brat singer saw the post and was quick to condemn the chants.

"can the people who do this please stop. online or at my shows," she wrote in her Instagram Stories. "it is the opposite of what i want and it disturbs me that anyone would think there is room for this in this community. i will not tolerate it."

Charli, whose latest album is enjoying amazing success right now, has a longtime relationship with the "Fortnight" singer, which no doubt adds to her reasons for shutting down this weird behavior from her fans.

The "Boom Clap" singer was actually one of the opening acts for Swift during her Reputation Tour in 2018, with Camila Cabella and Broods being the other opening acts on certain dates of that tour.

There was some controversy around that, however, when Charli said in a Pitchfork interview, "I’m really grateful that [Taylor] asked me on that tour. But as an artist, it kind of felt like I was getting up on stage and waving to 5-year-olds."

After receiving backlash for those comments, Charli wrote on X (then Twitter), "I want to clarify there is absolutely no shade and only love here!"

She added, "Leading up to that tour I'd been playing a ton of 18+ club shows and so to be on stage in front of all ages was new to me and made me approach my performances with a whole new kind of energy - more so I talked about how it was brilliant opening for Taylor, I am extremely grateful for the opportunity I was given and how much fun it was to perform to a new audience!"

Just when there hasn’t been a certified, reigning bad girl in pop in a minute, Charli XCX declares herself a brat.

The British hyperpop phenom is more brash and confrontational than ever on her sixth studio album Brat (which dropped on June 7 via Atlantic Records). She laments how she’s everybody’s “favorite reference” and questions why she’s not more famous (“360”), while still feeling nostalgic for the days when she didn’t value fame quite as much (“Rewind”). She forgoes niceties to analyze the complexities of female relationships (“Girl, so confusing”) and criticizes expectations placed on women ("Mean girls," “Sympathy is a knife”). Most importantly, she confronts herself and the role of the messy girl she’s both played and has been prescribed to her (“I might say something stupid”). She’s the life of the party at a rave under club lights, and in the quiet car ride home, she can’t help but have an attitude over either the world’s or her own perception of who she is and her desires. So, she’ll be a brat, embrace it all, and do it unlike anybody else in her league or beyond it.

The narrative surrounding Charli XCX’s career has long been that she’s never quite broken into the mainstream—but only because she’s always 10 steps ahead of it. Her fans have found her more interesting for it, and she has always seemed to like creating experimental music catered toward her queer and indiehead fanbase known as the Angels, rather than making pop anthems for the masses. Now, with Brat—which comes at the height of her career, over a decade after she debuted with 2013’s True Romance—it’s as if she’s leaning into a bad-girl attitude because she’s over the wider music landscape not getting her, so she might as well have fun playing with an often misunderstood pop persona.

Charli XCX occupies a bad-girl space in pop that hasn’t been filled in some time. For as long as bubblegum has been a leader on the charts, so have boundary-pushers. Madonna built her career on controversy, sex positivity, and elevating the LGBTQ+ community. Y2K pop princesses like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera flirted with dirtiness as much as they did cuteness. Miley Cyrus came in like a wrecking ball with her hedonistic Bangerz era. In the mainstream landscape nowadays, Olivia Rodrigo is a proponent of youthful rebellion and pushing against expectations that women be “good” and polite, but in an approachable way. Lana Del Rey may be the closest, having debuted as the self-described “gangster Nancy Sinatra” and playing with counterculture American iconography throughout her work. But the bad girl now mostly pervades hip-hop, with fierce women (like Cardi B, Sexyy Red, Doja Cat, and others) leading the genre. As of late, pop itself has largely been dominated by the concept of relatability and safeness.

God forbid some of us crave for the purveyors of culture to be untouchably and effortlessly cool, though—and that’s exactly what Charli, a chic, bratty club kid through and through, is. Throughout the Brat album cycle, the singer (whose real name is Charlotte Aitchison) has playfully emphasized what an it girl she is. She released a music video for the single “360,” dubbed “the cool girl summit” with its cast of her famous friends like Gabbriette, Julia Fox, and Rachel Sennott. She’s also done copious IYKYK pop-up events at scene-y electronic music spaces like The Lot Radio and Boiler Room in Brooklyn, which thousands of fans showed up to or RSVP-ed to with just hours’ notice.

While many stars could have that pull in hosting last-minute events, few meet their fans in the spaces they occupy and also create a sense of exclusivity. Even as Charli XCX has reached a new level of fame, setting out on her first co-headlining stadium tour with Troye Sivan later this year, she’s stayed true to the underground nightlife world she came up in, and continues to love to be a part of. She’s on the dance floor with her fans, signing their poppers canisters while grinding to the beat, and making sure those on the list are the fans who’ve been with her since the beginning.

The entire Brat era began with Charli XCX launching a private Instagram (@360_brat) where she posted track teases and had frank Q&As with fans in which she offered blunt opinions on other artists and their albums, the music industry, and her personal life. For a period, she briefly only accepted requests from several thousands of fans at a time and it felt like a bold, no-f---s-given move in an age when celebrity social media is highly curated. The page now has over 150K followers, but she uses it to post tips about her pop-ups before announcing them publicly (and by then, the list is often closed).

The candidness of the @360_brat AMAs translates to Charli XCX's album in many forms, including her ability to be unafraid to explore the dynamics of female friendships, frenemies, or acquaintances you may envy or may envy you. For a long time, pop has been a proponent of uplifting female friendships and empowerment—a worthy and necessary cause—although that often feels as though it becomes warped when fandoms assume that critiques of the artist they stan is a misogynistic attack. But on Brat, Charli XCX is direct in her feelings of inferiority when faced by certain women—despite herself possessing an undeniable it girl factor—and she ponders whether it’s unhealthy and unrealistic that we all be “girls' girls,” a concept that itself ends up putting other women down. It may be controversial, but it feels more nuanced and real than some pop branded as relatable. Perhaps airing out her complicated feelings this way will be an entry point for the current phase of feminism in pop culture to feel more comfortable discussing the intricacies of women's relationships and insecurities.

Sonically, Brat (which features Charli XCX’s longtime collaborator A.G. Cook as lead producer) calls back to the London techno scene she came up in when she was a teenager releasing tracks on MySpace. Aside from a few punchy singles (“Von Dutch,” “360”), few of these songs have radio appeal, with their bumping drum beats and electroclash synths. Even the album cover resembles lo-fi rave flyers of yesteryear. It was a concept that some criticized, and while many image-conscious stars wouldn’t comment on the matter, Charli defended it with sass and confidence. She responded both on social media and in interviews about the public’s overzealous demand to see and commercialize women’s bodies. Now, the cover is a meme, and any spot of green IRL looks like guerilla Brat promo; as always, she trusted her taste, coolness, and badness, and was right.

Now more than ever, it's as though Charli XCX is harkening to the scene that raised her because if the mainstream won’t accept her in real-time, she’ll lean in harder to who she’s always been—fully knowing others are carbon copying her style and attempting to replicate her sound (“Von dutch,” “The 360 remix with robyn and yung lean”). Still, she’s bigger than ever (reaching her biggest streaming debut on Spotify with Brat), and it’s a thrill to have someone so braggadocious and a fearless trendsetter inching toward the top—and creating something truly defining—in years. Leave it to Charli to say it best on her lead single: She’s just living that life, a cult classic but she still pops.

Charli XCX just opened up about the highs and lows of working with fiancé George Daniel in the recording studio.

"We want to impress each other, and we think we’re both really good, but I’m actually such a bitch in the studio with George," Charli quipped in a profile interview with Rolling Stone U.K. "Because we’re obviously so close, you lose everything in terms of the normal studio boundaries."

One of the things the lovebirds clash on work-wise is their pace, with Daniel being slower and more of a perfectionist. As Rolling Stone puts it, this sometimes leads Charli to tell him to "hurry the f*** up."

Still the two's approaches to recording are complementary. "We flow really well, and he leaves a lot of space for people to breathe and be them and do their process," the singer explained.

The two musicians have collaborated on a handful of tracks that will appear on her forthcoming album Brat, which is set for release in early June.

The "Speed Drive" singer and The 1975 drummer got engaged last November, with Charli posting a sweet Instagram post captioned, "charli xcx and george daniel f—ing for life!!!" In the post, she showed off her brand new diamond ring.

The two also collaborated on Charli's song "Spinning," which is how they first met circa March 2021, per Us Weekly. They first sparked dating rumors in March 2022 after they were photographed holding hands, and went Instagram-official a few weeks later.

These days, Charli often shares glimpses into their life together, but as the true popstar she is, ends up deleting the social media posts later on.

It has been eight years since Britney Spears has given the world the gift of a new album, and the long wait is almost over.

Sources close to the star claim that she has been working on her new album and that it should be released in 2024. This is twenty-five years after her debut album, making it the perfect way to mark this momentous anniversary.

Spears took a step back from music to fight her conservatorship, only recently dipping her toe back into things. She was featured on Elton John's song, "Hold Me Closer" in 2022, and then on Will.i.am's song, "Mind Your Business", earlier this year. The latter received a mixed response.

It's safe to say that Spears is warmed up and ready to give us some great music!

What can we expect from this new album? Well, you can expect the excellent musical stylings of Charli XCX.

A source told The Sun that Charli has already been in the studio with Spears' specifications and laid down some tracks for the star. The two stars are yet to meet in person, apparently.

The source claimed, “[Charli] came up with a really strong track that is expected to make it on to the album, which Britney’s team hope will be out in 2024.”

The only thing better than this news would be if Charli herself is featured on one of the songs! Either way, this is Spears' first album since she was freed, so it is an exciting milestone for fans.

The song was written for the Barbie soundtrack and is currently the most popular song on Charli XCX's Spotify. This is the only track of hers to be on her own most-listened list, as the others are by Lou Reed, Cocteau Twins and Nico.

The singer has a lot more to celebrate than just Spotify streams at the moment, as her engagement to the 1975's George Daniel was just announced. The two British musicians first connected in 2021 to work on a single, and their relationship was officially confirmed in May 2022.

Well, we know what song she could strut down the aisle to, and luckily we're certain that she's a fan of it!

Charli XCX announced her engagement to George Daniel, drummer for The 1975, on social media, writing on her public Instagram today “charli xcx and george daniel f—ing for life!!!” She shared the news yesterday with a post of her engagement ring on her private Instagram, which is intended for her fans. People confirmed that the two are engaged.

In her first post, she shared a casual selfie, holding up her hand and flashing a diamond ring. In her more official announcement, the singer shared a carousel of the two embracing and a tray of tea featuring a box with an engagement ring, “seemingly revealing how [Daniel] proposed,” People reports. 

Earlier this year she released the single “Welcome to My Island (Remix)” with Daniel, in which she sings “It was love at first sight from the moment we kissed / I want a white dress, countryside house, and kids”—and it seems she has manifested just that. The engagement comes several months after she jokingly commented on The 1975’s archived tour announcement on Instagram, “Stop touring, George needs to buy a ring.” (Speak it into existence!)

The two British musicians first connected in 2021 while working on the single “Spinning.” Although it’s unclear when the pair’s creative partnership turned romantic, she confirmed their relationship in May 2022 when she shared photos on Instagram of the two vacationing together, two months after he supported her at her Saturday Night Live performance in March. Since then, the couple has collaborated on ample music together and “have also offered insights into their relationship over the past year and a half with posts on social media and in interviews,” People reports. Social media content of the two of them has included not just vacations but enjoying Fashion Week events together around the world and working in the studio. 

“Now that I’m in a relationship with another musician, he’s influenced me a lot with his process and how he and his band work,” she told The Sun in May. “It’s really different to how I work and that has definitely influenced me and my process. I used to be very, ‘Quick, quick, quick, album a month, let’s go.’ Now I’m like, ‘Oh, maybe it’s cool to take some time and live in the music that you create.’ My process is definitely evolving.”

Earlier this year, in February, she opened up to the Sydney Morning Herald about how “in love” she is, telling the outlet “I want to be wifed up, I want to have a big fat belly with a baby in it. I don’t really want to live in the countryside, that’s the only lie in that [referring to her lyrics] because I love cities. But yeah, I’m just so in love right now and I think I’d be a really hot mum.”
