For Gucci's Cruise 2027 show, creative director Demna brought all of the drama—and a plethora of celebrities—to Times Square in Manhattan, New York City on Saturday, May 16. Unsurprisingly, the front row was every bit as star-studded as the runway itself, and the dramatic location made for a pretty unforgettable cinematic experience.

The reason for the iconic—and extraordinarily busy—location is simple: "New York has held a singular place in Gucci's history for over 70 years, with the house opening its first store outside of Italy in the city in 1953," a press release revealed. "GucciCore serves as a homecoming for the house, staged in Times Square, one of New York's most ubiquitous symbols, against the backdrop of its digital billboards and screens. It distills the essence of Gucci as a visual language into a collection built around a new core wardrobe."

The runway, which wound its way through Times Square itself, featured the likes of supermodel Cindy Crawford, sporting legend Tom Brady, and reality star turned entrepreneur (and ADHD advocate) Paris Hilton.

Stylist Dani Michelle used Jenner's ambassadorship to access the label's '90s archives, though the exact date her spaghetti-strap slip debuted remains a mystery.

Each feature—especially the scoop neck and ankle-grazing skirt—fit her like a glove. Sequins sculpted into asymmetrical, horizontal stripes decorated every square inch of the dress. The motif matched the shine and shape of chainmail. Even Jenner's square-toe kitten heels got the metallic silver memo.

According to Kardashian Kloset on Instagram, the "rare" Giorgio Armani gown originally belonged to a Kardashian. It's unclear whether Kim or Kris Jenner was the proud owner, though. Gerber also recently wore a Hervé Léger dress inspired by Crawford's 1993 Academy Awards gown to the Toronto International Film Festival in February. They styled the looks similarly, too.

"I'm probably more inspired by you, than you are by me. Her style has been pretty dialed in for a while," the Saturday Night actor told Vogue of her mother's influence. "The older I get, the more I go into your territory, which is classic."

Gerber couldn't always see just how much she looks like Crawford.

"At first she was like, ‘We look nothing alike!’ And I was like, OK. Then finally she figured out that’s not such a terrible thing,” Crawford told Vanity Fair in 2017 when Gerber was 15 and launching her modeling career. "The funny thing is, she can imitate me. She's like, 'I know exactly how you do your mouth.'"

Gerber also admitted that seeing the resemblance took some time.

"From day one, people in the industry were often taken aback by my resemblance to my mom," she told Vogue in an as-told-to in 2019. "As I get older, it happens even more, and it’s not just a visual thing: It’s everything from our mannerisms to our voices. It used to be that I didn’t see it at all, but now I will look at a picture and have to take a moment before realizing which one of us it is."

But, Gerber added, the "biggest compliment is when someone says I act like my mom." She said that her mother is her hero because of how she "treats people and the lens that she sees the world through."

She gave a suggestion, too: "If you’re still having trouble telling us apart, though, a quick tip: My mom’s the one with the mole."

Having grown up as Cindy Crawford's daughter, it makes sense that Gerber embarked on a career as a model. In recent years, Gerber has branched out into acting, surprising fans with her talent in shows like Palm Royale and American Horror Story, and movies like Bottoms and Babylon

In an interview with ELLE U.K. in December 2023, Gerber addressed her passion for acting. "I was acting in school before I started modeling and that made my innately shy personality a little bit more outgoing," she explained. "It made me more comfortable being around people."

Now running both careers side by side, Gerber reflected on how each talent informs the other. "With modeling, I learned the power of transformation," she told the outlet. "When I started acting again, I had to completely forget that the camera was there, which is really the opposite of what you do as a model. But I think both go hand in hand."

When I heard Cindy Crawford and Kaia Gerber would be teaming up to host Zara's first-ever shopping broadcast on Sept. 25, I wasn't sure what to expect. Would it assume a QVC-esque, "show and tell" format where the hosts hold various products up to the camera and gush about how life-changing they are? Would it feel like a live recording of a mother and daughter going shopping together, heated arguments and all? Would the stream take place in a store, a closet, or a secret third place somewhere in the ether? And most importantly, would this new way of shopping—dubbed ZaraStreaming—even work?

Suffice it to say, I had my doubts as I sat before Zara's homepage, watching the countdown to the Wednesday afternoon stream tick closer to completion. When the show began, however, it quickly became clear that ZaraStreaming is not a true streaming platform in the Twitch sense of the word. It's a pre-recorded video broadcast with integrations for live chat and real-time shopping.

In case you missed it, the plot of the inaugural ZaraStreaming went a little something like this: Gerber and Crawford hop in the car and sing along to Chappell Roan's "Good Luck, Babe!" on their way to a Zara photo shoot. Upon arriving, they're greeted by French stylist Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele, who promptly begins dressing them in various looks crafted from a special drop of fall styles. As Gerber and Crawford try on various looks, the pieces used to create them appear on screen so they can be easily added to your cart. After cycling through a couple of looks, Cerf de Dudzeele sends the pair off to be photographed in the limited collection by David Lowery, who directed the stream in addition to starring in it.

The loosely scripted video is still available for playback if you're so inclined, and I might even venture to say that rewatchable version is the superior way to experience ZaraStreaming. After the broadcast ended, timestamps for each product were added so you can easily jump to the portion of the video where Gerber and Crawford were wearing it. While I found it hard to watch and actively shop at the same time, the platform made it easy to circle back and find the items I wanted to examine more closely. Like, for instance, this brown barn jacket with a fleece contrast collar and cow print belt Crawford briefly donned during the stream. Or the black tuxedo jacket and Chloé-esque platform wedge heels Gerber wore in the video's final frame.

ZaraStreaming may not be the most natural and intuitive way to shop, but for a moment, it did manage to make online shopping feel a little less stale and isolating. And for me, that's reason enough to stay tuned for their next attempt. Of course, it'll be hard to top Gerber and Crawford as the stream's supermodel hosts. Perhaps avid Zara patron Selena Gomez might consider taking over the gig?

Even when she's headed to the gym in Nike sneakers with no makeup, the resemblance between model Kaia Gerber and her mother, supermodel Cindy Crawford, is striking at the very least. But when she's all dolled up for the red carpet—with her hair in Crawford's signature blow-out—it's truly uncanny.

This has been made apparent on many occasions (like last week, when Gerber wore her mom's signature LBD on the red carpet), but yesterday's premiere may be the most Crawford-like she's ever looked, blowout and all. On Sept. 12, Gerber stepped out for the premiere of Shell during the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival wearing a white-bright bandage dress that positively glowed.

She was outfitted by stylist Molly Dickson in Hervé Léger's most famous creation: the bandage dress. The skintight number was all the rage in the '90s and 2000s, having been worn by nearly every stylish celeb of the time—including her mom, Cindy Crawford.

The OG runway star wore an identical style—complete with bustier-inspired cups and an ankle-grazing hem—to the 1993 Academy Awards, walking the Oscars red carpet with then-husband Richard Gere.

Crawford wore her hair half-up, in ringlet curls, and merchandised with matching white pointed-toe pumps with criss-cross straps. Her jewelry was decidedly of-the-times: diamond drop earrings and a lariat necklace to match.

Nearly 31 years later, Gerber styled her look-alike gown the exact same way. She wore a modernized version of Crawford's pumps (a $887 patent leather pair from Jimmy Choo) and chose sleek platinum jewelry, as well. Even their makeup was similar—Gerber, too, swiped on burnt sienna lipstick and kept her eyeshadow neutral and sultry.

Looks like the hotly-contested bandage dress is officially back.

There are certain traits that run in every family—mine, for example, is known for our bouncy ginger curls, artistic talent, and clinical anxiety. The Gerber-Crawford family, on the other hand, inherited a knack for modeling, the same towering height (both mother and daughter are 5'10"), and an affinity for the little black dress.

All three of those traits were reflected in Kaia Gerber's latest red carpet appearance, which came on Sept. 10 in Toronto, Canada. The second-generation model attended the premiere of her new film Saturday Night, during the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, and her look lived up to the family name.

Gerber was the spitting image of her mother, Cindy Crawford, in the 2000s, wearing in a floor-length DKNY dress with a dangerously low cowl neckline that nearly reached her belly button. She was styled by Molly Dickson, who she began working with over the summer.

Though she styled the look with dual stacks of thick gold bangles, her hair was truly the cherry on top. She rocked the signature bouncy blow-out Crawford made famous.

First observation: This family has great genes all around. Second observation: Kaia Gerber, 22, and Cindy Crawford, 58, clearly had a text thread going while they picked out their wedding guest dresses.

The duo didn't exactly match, but they expertly (and elegantly) coordinated. Gerber wore a form-fitting, emerald green dress with a ruffled skirt and a plunging halter neckline. Her mother chose a watercolor floral slip with hints of the same green in her daughter's gown, as well as flecks of purple and yellow. Both women chose on-trend summer sandals: black kitten heels for Kaia and nude slides for Cindy. Exact tags for their dresses weren't available at press time.

When you’re Kaia Gerber and your mother is Cindy Crawford, it’s impossible to not know that you’re from famous stock. After all, Crawford is one of the supers, a 1990s supermodel whose legend is only rivaled by fellow supers like Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, and Christy Turlington.

Even after Gerber herself began modeling years and years ago, apparently she still didn’t realize exactly how big of a deal her mom is in the modeling industry—and didn’t until about a year ago, Page Six reports. 

In fact, it wasn’t until Gerber watched The Super Models on Apple TV+, released last September, that she fully realized just how well-regarded Crawford really is. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Gerber admitted that her own successful modeling career was no doubt shaped because of Crawford’s, but after watching the docuseries, she finally got the full scope.

“I was like, ‘I didn’t realize,’” Gerber told the outlet. “‘I knew you were iconic, but…’ I didn’t understand when I was younger. I was starstruck in front of her after.”

The mother-daughter duo of Crawford and Gerber are lookalikes—it’s a near copy/paste—and Gerber said watching The Super Models opened her eyes to all that Crawford had to go through to provide the life she did for their family, which also includes Gerber’s dad, Casamigos cofounder Rande Gerber, and brother, Presley Gerber.

“What she made of her career, there wasn’t really someone’s footsteps to follow,” Gerber said. “And I thought it was so cool that she always had that ambition, and she did things where people told her, ‘This will ruin your career. Don’t do this.’ And she trusted her instincts.” She further praised her mother for being so “smart and focused and ambitious” from “a very young age,” despite “coming from a very different background" than Gerber herself did.

Gerber obviously did have someone’s footsteps to follow and told The Wall Street Journal that she is well aware of her privilege and leg up into the modeling industry. “I don’t think it’s a topic that will go away, so I’ve clearly reached a point of acceptance,” she said of being a so-called nepo baby. “I personally am very aware of all the wonderful things it has done for me, and I would never, ever say anything negative about it, because that is my truth about it.” 

While her mother’s name may have gotten Gerber’s career started, her hard work and talent has kept it going; her resume includes work with the likes of Valentino, Prada, Chanel, Fendi, Givenchy, Miu Miu, Burberry, Calvin Klein, Alexander Wang, and Coach, among others. She said she feels fortunate because “I can actually ask my parents [for] advice on career things, on business things,” Gerber said. “That’s very rare, to have parents who are in the same industry or career as you, whose advice you actually can trust.”

No spoilers here, but Cindy Crawford had a semi-cameo moment (watch and you’ll see) in part two of season six of Netflix’s The Crown—the final episodes of the series, which has been running since 2016. Crawford’s blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment prompted her to reminisce on a visit to Kensington Palace, where she met Princess Diana; she shared a photo of the moment on Instagram.

In a scene from the show, a young Prince William (who is played by Ed McVey) is inspecting posters of models on his wall, including a photo of Crawford; when he is asked by grandfather Prince Philip (played by Jonathan Pryce) about the women in the photos (all supermodels of the 1990s), William responded “Claudia Schiffer, Cindy Crawford, and Naomi Campbell.”

“A little cameo on @thecrownnetflix,” Crawford wrote. “I still vividly remember visiting Kensington Palace to meet Diana and a teenage William (who had just discovered the ‘Super Models’).”

Alongside her caption, Crawford shared the clip on her Instagram stories and a throwback image of herself and the late Princess of Wales. Beneath the post, Crawford included a white heart and dove emojis.

In 2017, Crawford described the unexpected nature of the meeting, calling it “a cute surprise” for William and brother Prince Harry, The Daily Express reports. “Remembering this inspiring woman today,” Crawford wrote. “This photo was taken at Kensington Palace.” Crawford shared the story of Diana obtaining the number to her office and personally calling to request her to visit. Crawford’s assistant was in shock at the time.

“We finally connected, and she asked if the next time I was in London, I would come by for tea—I think Prince William was just starting to notice models, and she thought it would be a cute surprise for him and Prince Harry,” Crawford explained.

Despite feeling nervous (and uncertain about what to wear), she remembered that as soon as Diana entered the room and they began talking, it felt like conversing with a girlfriend. She called Diana a “class act” before concluding the tribute by writing “Rest In Peace.”

During a 2020 conversation with Campbell on the “No Filter With Naomi” YouTube series, Crawford confessed she felt “so intimidated” when she initially met Diana: “I was so intimidated meeting Princess Diana and being at Kensington Palace and how just completely down to earth she was, because there’s so much protocol and I guess, not being English, I don’t understand some of it,” Crawford said. “I feel like she was in jeans and a cashmere sweater. Not barefoot, but almost that vibe of being super laid back.”

Both of them gravitated toward low-key essentials that deliver a high-fashion payoff. Most recently, Cindy Crawford and Kaia Gerber wore coordinating chic outfits while on a shopping spree in New York City. Proving the age-old saying, “like mother, like daughter,” both sported extremely chic outerwear: Crawford wore a large-lapel black wrap coat, while Geber wore Ralph Lauren's neutral-toned and checkered Karmina Check Coat. A hard-working winter coat is a must-have seasonal staple, and, as any mother will tell you, you can’t leave the house without one.

The young model wore her wool maxi coat open and unbuttoned to slyly show off her outfit underneath. Alongside Geber, Crawford wore a classical, all-black outfit (hinting at Audrey Hepburn-esque style cues). In black trousers, suede, thick-heeled booties, and an iconically thin, skinny scarf (very early 2000s), the iconic supermodel looks understated but undeniably put-together. Her wool trench was tightly tied around her waist and, like her daughter, also hit at her kneecaps.

The most identical part of the mother and daughter duo is the beauty stylings around their downtown shopping looks. Gerber and Crawford’s dark-honey-toned brunette hair was parted at the center and styled down in beachy waves (like they both just got out of bed). And their makeup palettes were neutral, both going for a natural day look with a matte lip with a rosy touch.

Giving back is in Cindy Crawford's blood—as a kid, she lost her brother to leukemia and has been volunteering in one way or another ever since. Her most recent effort has been captured in a moving documentary, Hospital in the Sky, which premiered in New York City last week. In it, the Omega ambassador visits Peru with leading global NGO Orbis to raise awareness of and help eliminate avoidable blindness. 

But there's another way Crawford gives back: She reminds us that supermodels are human too. In a candid chat after the film's premiere, she let us in on all kinds of secrets, like:

She has "those days"...

Cindy admits it—she, too, wakes up and feels a little leery about her reflection from time to time. "I have those days," she says, smiling. "I don't want to act like I don't—especially now. As a young model, you have 4 a.m. call times; now when they give me early call times I'm like, 'I'll get up whenever you want...but my face doesn't really like to get up before 7 or 8. I'll be there, I'm just not sure you're going to want to shoot me.'"

She's not into self-deprivation...

"I was never one of the skinny skinny girls who could eat whatever they wanted, so I certainly exercise and try to eat right. But at the same time, I try to be a good role model for my daughter in terms of just accepting myself, not saying 'Does this make me look fat?' or 'I can't eat that' or 'I'm on a diet.' I just trying to lead by example. If we go out for ice cream I'm not going to not have any, I'm just going to have the baby-size cone. I don't want her to think that taking care of yourself means depriving yourself and not having fun."

She can't overdo it and expect to feel good ...

"I really think—at any age—it's about learning to be comfortable in your own skin, which is a lot easier said than done. For me, that's doing the kind of work I like, being in a good relationship, being the kind of mother I want to be—and taking care of myself. Knowing, for instance, I can't really drink wine anymore. Sometimes, not every time, it makes me puffy. Last night, we were out for dinner and I did not have a glass of wine. I had a glass of tequila—because that doesn't make me puffy. Though I didn't have three tequilas," she says, laughing. "Making those choices gives me more confidence. "
