<p>Just when you think <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/catharina-amalia-historic-tiara-jenny-packham-gown/">tiara season</a> (a.k.a. December) couldn't get any better, the <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/palace-confirms-princess-sofia-jeffrey-epstein-meeting/">Swedish royals</a> made yet another glamorous appearance on Thursday, December 11. The<a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/swedish-royals-nobel-prize-princess-victoria-vintage-gown/"> Nobel Peace Prize</a> ceremony is held in Stockholm every December, and members of Sweden's royal family never fail to make a fashion statement at the formal events surrounding the <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/six-european-royals-wore-tiara-same-day/">Nobels</a>. </p><p>This year, it was <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/princess-madeleine-sweden-christmas-traditions/">Princess Madeleine</a> who stood out at King Carl Gustaf's Nobel dinner, wearing a New Year's Eve-ready gown by Monique Lhuillier. The plunging style featured a black velvet top with a shimmery gold sequined skirt, and Madeleine accented it with a historic tiara from the family's collection.</p><p>Although most tiaras are covered in diamonds, pearls or other precious gems, the Napoleonic Steel Cut Tiara stands out because it doesn't have any gemstones at all. The gold design is crafted from gold and polished steel beads, according to <a href="https://www.thecourtjeweller.com/2023/08/a-diadem-that-sparkles-without-diamonds-swedens-napoleonic-cut-steel-tiara.html" target="_blank"><em>The Court Jeweller</em></a>, and was created for Hortense de Beauharnais, Empress Joséphine's daughter and Queen of Holland, in the early 1800s.</p><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:3120px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:149.74%;"><img id="TPqUJTfQLgE5fF8AyisrPe" name="3DANB91" alt="Prince Carl Philip in a tux and Princess Madeleine in a black and gold sequin gown" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/TPqUJTfQLgE5fF8AyisrPe.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="3120" height="4672" attribution="" endorsement="" class="inline"></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="caption-text">Prince Carl Philip and his sister, Princess Madeleine, are pictured at a dinner for Nobel Laureates on December 11. </span><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Alamy)</span></figcaption></figure><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:6848px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:74.77%;"><img id="LHWwoeKvWD5aFREBqeyeZT" name="3DANBA4" alt="Prince Carl Philip and Princess Madeleine posing with Chris O'Neill at a Nobel dinner" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/LHWwoeKvWD5aFREBqeyeZT.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="6848" height="5120" attribution="" endorsement="" class="inline"></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="caption-text">Madeleine's husband, Chris O'Neill, joined the group in another photo. </span><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure> <div class="featured_product_block featured_block_horizontal" data-id="bc2d73d8-faad-4d8f-b137-ba6dce83a767"> <a href="https://moniquelhuillier.com/products/noir-gold-velvet-sequin-gown" data-model-name="Noir Gold Velvet & Sequin Gown" data-model-brand="" ><div class='product-image-widthsetter'><p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:150.00%';><img style="width: 100%" class="featured_image" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/6ad4a5CGShbEfE4wByvjWf.jpg" alt="Noir Gold Velvet & Sequin Gown"></p></div></a> <div class="featured_product_details_wrapper"> <div class="featured_product_title_wrapper"> <div class='featured__brand'>Monique Lhuillier</div> <div class="featured__title">Noir Gold Velvet & Sequin Gown</div> </div> <div class="subtitle__description"> <p></p> </div> </div> </div><p>Hortense's jewelry was passed down through the family and ended up in the hands of Queen Josephine of Sweden and Norway, who died in 1876. But the tiara, along with a set of other jewelry, disappeared until it was discovered in 1976 by art historian Göran Alm, per <em>The Court Jeweller.</em> </p><p>Alm was looking for objects to include in an exhibition at the palace and happened to stumble upon the steel-cut treasures inside a storage cupboard. Fortunately, Queen Silvia had the pieces restored, and the tiara went into regular rotation with the royal family. </p><p>Along with her more than 200-year-old tiara, Princess Madeleine wore another piece of historic jewelry, wearing the same diamond earrings she wore on her wedding day. The enormous drop earrings date all the way back to the 1700s, and she paired them with a more modern piece in the form of a Cartier Love Bracelet, adding a gold cuff and a diamond bracelet to her ensemble.</p><h2 id="shop-similar-holiday-dresses">Shop Similar Holiday Dresses</h2> <div class="featured_product_block featured_block_horizontal" <p><a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/princess-sofia-skipped-tiara-moment">The Swedish royals</a> dressed up for the most glamorous night of the year as they attended the Nobel Prize Ceremonies in Stockholm. As has been the tradition since 1901, the ceremonies are held on December 10 at the Stockholm Concert Hall. Laureates receive the Nobel <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/why-kate-middleton-isnt-joining-prince-william-in-brazil-for-earthshot-prize-awards-amid-major-family-change">Prize</a> medal and diploma from King Carl XVI Gustaf, and Queen Silvia, <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/princess-estelle-dog-swedish-royal-family-summer-video">Crown Princess Victoria</a>, and Princess Madeleine attended the ceremonies in their glittering––and sustainably-conscious––ballgowns and tiaras. </p><p>This year, Crown Princess Victoria looked sensational in a very special gown. The Jacques Zehnder evening gown was first worn by her mother, Queen Silvia, way back in 1994. The vintage gown is constructed from “zibeline, a special faille-like binding that is no longer made,” per the brand. The crown princess topped the look with the Baden Fringe <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/200-year-old-tiara-first-public-appearance">tiara</a>, Sweden’s iconic 19th century fringe tiara, along with pearl earrings and a pearl bracelet. </p><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:5225px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:149.91%;"><img id="UdBMXRrur3ff3FXAfCjzH3" name="Victoria Sweden Nobel Prize Tiaras" alt="Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/UdBMXRrur3ff3FXAfCjzH3.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="5225" height="7833" attribution="" endorsement="" class="inline"></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="caption-text">Crown Princess Victoria wears her mother's Jacques Zehnder gown. </span><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:1858px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:133.32%;"><img id="CA3oJqsc8fmASPxi5qYXi9" name="Queen Silvia Jacques Zehnder" alt="Queen Silvia of Sweden" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/v2/t:0,l:1474,cw:1858,ch:2477,q:80/CA3oJqsc8fmASPxi5qYXi9.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="3666" height="2477" attribution="" endorsement="" class="inline"></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="caption-text">Queen Silvia first wore the Jacques Zehnder gown in 1994. </span><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><p>Princess Madeleine also pulled a gown from the back of her <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/kate-middleton-rewear-queen-old-jacket">royal closet</a>, although she chose a much more recent design that she wore to a gala in 2023. The icy silvery-blue gown with a cape-style sleeve was designed by Jenny Packham, who recently created a similar style for the <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/princess-kate-german-state-banquet-tiara">Princess of Wales.</a> Princess Madeleine coordinated the cool-hued gown with the Aquamarine <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/queen-camilla-princess-eugenie-greville-tiara-cost-13-million">Kokoshnik</a> tiara and aquamarine chandelier earrings that she first wore in 2008. </p><p>Not to be missed, Queen Silvia chose a sparkling ochre gown that she also wore to a gala in 2023. The golden gown popped against a sea of black suits at the Nobel Prize Ceremonies. To complete the outfit, the Queen wore the Swedish Nine Pronged <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/duchess-sophie-aquamarine-tiara-clever-hidden-trick">Tiara</a>, an enormous diamond tiara that Queen Silvia favors for many events.</p><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:4279px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:66.67%;"><img id="Xc6KNivGe4BnvNYfrzurDH" name="Princess Madeleine Sweden Nobel Prize" alt="Princess Madeleine of Sweden" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Xc6KNivGe4BnvNYfrzurDH.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="4279" height="2853" attribution="" endorsement="" class="inline"></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="caption-text">Princess Madeleine shimmers in a Jenny Packham gown similar to one worn by the Princess of Wales. </span><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:3582px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:100.00%;"><img id="GnTVp8eqngFPLEfgtAH3UQ" name="Queen Silvia Nobel Gown" alt="Queen Silvia of Sweden" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/v2/t:0,l:1623,cw:3582,ch:3582,q:80/GnTVp8eqngFPLEfgtAH3UQ.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="5374" height="3582" attribution="" endorsement="" class="inline"></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="caption-text">Queen Silvia wore a bright ochre gown for the ceremonies. </span><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><p>All three royal women chose <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/princess-kate-best-evening-gowns">gowns</a>, tiaras, and jewels from the royal wardrobes, eschewing new fashion items for a more sustainable sartorial choice. Every December 10, the tiaras and <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/meghan-markle-best-evening-gowns">ballgowns</a> are a small glimmer at the Nobel Prize Ceremonies as leaders in the fields of Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine and Literature receive the highest acknowledgement of their work. </p>

Like Princess Estelle, Sjöström went for a casual look in jeans, a ball cap and green sweater, appearing deep in conversation with the future queen and Prince Daniel as they took in the men's singles final match. </p><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:4859px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:66.64%;"><img id="FPuZQPrQWYC9zZwbvFtS7K" name="GettyImages-2242011451" alt="Prince Daniel turning to talk to swimmer Sarah Sarah Sjöström while watching a tennis match with Princess Estelle" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/FPuZQPrQWYC9zZwbvFtS7K.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="4859" height="3238" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="caption-text">The royal duo chatted with swimmer Sarah Sjöström during the match. </span><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:4824px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:66.67%;"><img id="HTtSBSFRt3DnD9uzgCTfYG" name="GettyImages-2242010707" alt="Princess Estelle of Sweden and Sarah Sjostrom, Swedish Olympic Swimmer, pointing at the ceiling at a tennis match" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/HTtSBSFRt3DnD9uzgCTfYG.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="4824" height="3216" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="caption-text">Princess Estelle and Prince Daniel both wore navy outfits to the tennis tournament. </span><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:1600px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:66.69%;"><img id="uwP6qiyQok6c6oC54WqFTH" name="Estelle-birthday" alt="Princess Estelle wearing a gray skirt set standing next to a vase of flowers" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/uwP6qiyQok6c6oC54WqFTH.png" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="1600" height="1067" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="caption-text">Princess Estelle is seen in her official 13th birthday portrait. </span><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Kate Gabor/The Royal Court of Sweden)</span></figcaption></figure><p>The tennis outing was a rare chance for Estelle to enjoy one-on-one time with her dad at a public event. Before marrying Crown Princess Victoria, he was her personal trainer and owned his own gym. Today, he focuses on causes that improve the physical and mental health of young people in his royal work, including Prince Daniel's Race, which is held annually in Sweden.</p><p>Like Prince William and Princess Kate have done with <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/prince-george-most-normal-future-monarch/">12-year-old future King Prince George</a>, Victoria and Daniel have gradually introduced Estelle to royal duties. In June, she joined her parents for an event at the Princess Estelle Sculpture Park to introduce a new piece of art. And privately, she marked another milestone when she served as godmother to Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip's baby girl, <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/princess-ines-matching-moment-princess-sofia-national-day/">Princess Ines</a>, at her baptism this summer. </p><h2 id="shop-similar">Shop Similar</h2> <div class="featured_product_block featured_block_horizontal" data-id="d14b6781-6d4b-44c7-9834-94277418e3b9"> <a href="https://www.quince.com/women/mongolian-cashmere-oversized-crewneck" data-model-name="Mongolian Cashmere Oversized Crewneck Sweater" data-model-brand="" ><div class='product-image-widthsetter'><p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:125.00%';><img style="width: 100%" class="featured_image" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/LJ7H355FTdiFZ6cWeBGmBN.png" alt="A model wearing a navy sweater and jeans"></p></div></a> <div class="featured_product_details_wrapper"> <div class="featured_product_title_wrapper"> <div class='featured__brand'>Quince</div> <div class="featured__title">Mongolian Cashmere Oversized Crewneck Sweater</div> </div> <div class="subtitle__description"> <p></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="featured_product_block featured_block_horizontal" data-id="87de3a47-092b-4786-8e8c-6e9e331da96a"> <a href="https://www.meandem.com/us/lightweight-cashmere-raglan-crop-sweater-navy" data-model-name="Lightweight Cashmere Raglan Crop Sweater" data-model-brand="" ><div class='product-image-widthsetter'><p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:139.99%';><img style="width: 100%" class="featured_image" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/E6BxsvvFXCfz8SP5djw6kV.jpg" alt="Lightweight Cashmere Raglan Crop Sweater"></p></div></a> <div class="featured_product_details_wrapper"> <div class="featured_product_title_wrapper"> <div class='featured__brand'>ME+EM</div> <div class="featured__title">Lightweight Cashmere Raglan Crop Sweater</div> </div> <div class="subtitle__description"> <p></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="featured_product_block featured_block_horizontal" data-id="7e93303b-87e5-42df-b39b-5e0e4a34841d"> <a href="https://www.bloomingdales.com/shop/product/c-by-bloomingdales-cashmere-boxy-cashmere-crewneck-sweater-exclusive?ID=5564458" data-model-name="Boxy Cashmere Crewneck Sweater " data-model-brand="" ><div class='product-image-widthsetter'><p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:125.00%';><img style="width: 100%" class="featured_image" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/SJZjeAJ2kMF9vHGzU2gEHH.webp" alt="A model wearing a navy sweater and black skirt"></p></div></a> <div class="featured_product_details_wrapper"> <div class="featured_product_title_wrapper"> <div class='featured__brand'>C by Bloomingdale's Cashmere</div> <div class="featured__title">Boxy Cashmere Crewneck Sweater </div> </div> <div class="subtitle__description"> <p></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="featured_product_block featured_block_horizontal" data-id="b3df965c-112e-432b-8179-8995952bfa79"> <a href="https://www.everlane.com/products/womens-organic-cotton-crew-navy" data-model-name="The Boxy Sweater in Everyday Cotton" data-model-brand="" ><div class='product-image-widthsetter'><p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:125.00%';><img style="width: 100%" class="featured_image" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/e7jyKLkoPCm6cL7ZYJm4ET.jpg" alt="The Boxy Sweater in Everyday Cotton | Navy - The <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/princess-estelle-sweden-tall-as-parents-new-photos/">13-year-old royal</a> and her brother Prince Oscar, 9, showed off some sweet summer moments in an Instagram Reel their parents Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel shared on Sunday, August 31—but another member of the royal family stole the show. </p><p><a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/crown-princess-victoria-hm-ballgown-tiara">Crown Princess Victoria</a>—who is next in line to the Swedish throne—and husband Prince Daniel welcomed a Cavapoo named Rio into their family in 2020. The curly pup is seen in a number of snapshots in their summer video, with Princess Estelle looking all grown up as she cradles Rio in two beautiful new portraits. The teenage princess wears an ivory sweater in one picture as she holds her dog, and in another close-up shot, she's dressed in a tan hoodie while Rio looks right into the camera. </p><p>The photogenic dog, who made his Instagram debut in May 2020, also poses with Prince Oscar in another image from the family's summer holiday. The Reel also features plenty of peeks at the idyllic Swedish countryside, including a photo of Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar posing by a lake and a sweet sunset selfie of Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel. </p><div class="instagram-embed"><blockquote class="instagram-media" data-instgrm-version="6" style="width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);"><p><a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DOB9C48jGY5/" target="_blank">Swedish summer video</a></p><p>A photo posted by on </p></blockquote></div><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:674px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:165.88%;"><img id="F7iM4SxX8UAcgZmsxho9c6" name="Screenshot 2025-09-02 at 12.02.12 PM" alt="Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel taking a selfie in front of a dirt road with a sunset behind them" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/F7iM4SxX8UAcgZmsxho9c6.png" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="674" height="1118" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="caption-text">Prince Daniel and Crown Princess Victoria went casual for a sunset selfie. </span><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Kungahuset/Instagram)</span></figcaption></figure><p>The crown princess and her family typically spend their summer break at Solliden Palace, a retreat located on the island of Öland, and their Reel showed the family enjoying plenty of quality time outdoors. </p><p>On that note, Crown Princess Victoria has announced her plan to visit every national park in Sweden in a recent Instagram post. On August 26, the palace shared a photo of the future queen walking in a forest, writing, "Yesterday, the Crown Princess walked in the Bearland National Park, which is located in the Åsele patchland. There are 31 national parks in Sweden and the Crown Princess plans to visit them all." </p><p>As for Princess Estelle, she was last seen publicly on July 14 when she joined her family to celebrate mom Crown Princess Victoria's 48th birthday at Solliden Palace. The 13-year-old future queen is a student at Campus Manilla on Royal Djurgården in Stockholm, and like Britain's <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/prince-william-princess-kate-waited-telling-prince-george-destiny/">Prince George</a>, she doesn't carry out official royal duties just yet, with her parents allowing Estelle to live as normal of a childhood as possible. </p>

The <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/princess-sofia-skipped-tiara-moment/">Swedish royal family</a> celebrates Victoria's birthday, known as "Victoriadagen," at Solliden Palace each summer, and King Carl Gustaf and <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/queen-silvia-49-year-old-gown-drag-queen-surprise/">Queen Silvia</a> honored their daughter's 48th birthday during Tuesday's festivities. While the crown princess was the star of the show, royal watchers couldn't help but point out how grown up Princess Estelle looked—especially when it came to her height.</p><p>Wearing gold ballet flats and a blue floral mini dress from Swedish brand <a href="https://indiska.com/se/mode/klanningar/cathalina-dress-251-blue-bla-4210" target="_blank">Indiska</a>, Estelle appeared just a few inches shorter than dad Prince Daniel, who is said to be 5'11. <p>I don't know about you, but when I'm <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/fashion/ornate-red-carpet-gowns/">shopping for a ballgown</a>, H&M is probably the last place that would come to mind. But in the case of <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/glamorous-global-royals/">Crown Princess of Victoria of Sweden</a>, she somehow managed to pull off an old high street evening dress with a <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/six-european-royals-wore-tiara-same-day/">diamond tiara</a>—and look absolutely incredible. </p><p>The heir to the Swedish throne stepped out in a design from H&M's conscious collection—but with her own twist—as she attended the annual Nobel Laureates dinner at the Royal Palace in Stockholm on Wednesday, Dec. 11. </p><p>Crown Princess Victoria debuted the ruffled dress in one of her stunning 10th anniversary portraits in 2020, but made an alteration to the navy design with the inclusion of a sheer short-sleeved overlay (the original piece was sleeveless). She also wore the $290 eco-friendly design to a 2022 event, bringing it out for a third showing at Wednesday night's Nobel gathering. </p><p>What does one wear with a budget ballgown? Piles of diamonds and a historic tiara, naturally. Sweden's future queen wore the Boucheron Laurel Wreath Tiara, which was passed down to her by her great aunt, Princess Lilian, when she died in 2013, per <a href="https://www.thecourtjeweller.com/2016/07/the-boucheron-laurel-wreath-tiara.html" target="_blank">The Court Jeweller</a>. </p><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:3840px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:150.00%;"><img id="HiBLnR4hRfsbE2WBtoLpkJ" name="shutterstock_editorial_14994208g" alt="Crown Princess Victoria wearing a navy ballgown standing on the arm of Prince Daniel wearing a black tuxedo and medals in front of a gold sofa" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/HiBLnR4hRfsbE2WBtoLpkJ.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="3840" height="5760" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="caption-text">Crown Princess Victoria arrived on the arm of her husband, Prince Daniel. </span><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Shutterstock)</span></figcaption></figure><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:8256px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:66.67%;"><img id="5fmBfx6c5L2rsRTUYVnX64" name="shutterstock_editorial_14994208af" alt="The back of Crown Princess Victoria's head wearing a navy gown and a sash sitting at a candlelit table with flowers" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/5fmBfx6c5L2rsRTUYVnX64.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="8256" height="5504" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="caption-text">Victoria wore an elegant updo and diamond drop earrings for the dinner. </span><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Shutterstock)</span></figcaption></figure><p>However, the sparkler actually has a connection to the <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/fashion/g4944/royal-family-crown-tiara-guide/">British royals</a>. The tiara dates back to the early 1900s when it was given to Princess Margaret of Connaught, a granddaughter of Queen Victoria who later married King Gustaf VI Adolf of Sweden. Sadly, she died before her husband took the throne, but Margaret's tiara lived on through her daughter-in-law, Princess Lilian, and now Crown Princess Victoria. </p><p>The diamond piece resembles two rows of laurel wreaths and features an open center with a diamond dangling down from the center. It can also be worn as a necklace, as Princess Margaret loved to do, per <em>The Court Jeweller</em>. Victoria wore her tiara with even more bling, adding dazzling drop earrings and a diamond necklace along with a massive brooch pinned to her sash.</p><p>Crown Princess Victoria wasn't the only royal who made a glittering impression at the Nobel Laureates dinner; mom Queen Silvia, sister Princess Madeleine and sister-in-law Princess Sofia all wore their best gowns and jewels for the evening. </p><p>Wednesday was the second day in a row that the Swedish royal ladies busted out their tiaras, with the family also attending the Nobel Prize ceremony on Dec. 10. For the occasion, Victoria stunned in a shimmering pink dress with a sheer black overlay, choosing one of her other favorite headpieces, the Baden Fringe Tiara—a design that also evokes the diamond whopper that Queen Camilla <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/queen-camilla-rare-tiara-state-banquet/">wore to a recent state banquet</a>.</p>

<p>When it comes to the British royals, we're <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/kate-middleton-not-going-to-wear-royal-family-tiara-2024/">not often treated to a tiara moment</a>, but luckily, the Europeans do bust out the jewels a bit more frequently. Tuesday, Dec. 10, however, was an especially dazzling day, as both the Swedish and Dutch royals attended major events that required equally major diamonds. </p><p>The Swedish royal family takes part in the Nobel Prize ceremony each December, and as usual, they pulled out all the stops in the tiara department. Queen Silvia led the way, wearing a show-stopping diamond tiara trimmed with sapphires known as the Leuchtenberg Sapphire Tiara, per <a href="https://www.thecourtjeweller.com/2024/12/glittering-royal-tiaras-for-the-2024-nobel-prize-ceremony-in-stockholm.html" target="_blank">The Court Jeweller</a>. </p><p>She chose to wear the piece's matching earrings and brooch (the tiara is part of a suite of jewels dating back to 1810), but left the set's enormous necklace at home. The Swedish queen kept the sapphire theme going with a blue sequined gown and the most gorgeous twisted updo I've seen in a long time. </p><p>The heir to the throne, Crown Princess Victoria, went for a glittery pink Christer Lindarw gown with a sheer black overlay, pairing it with her go-to Baden Fringe Tiara. The all-diamond piece is laid out in a fringe design, somewhat similar to the one Queen Camilla recently <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/queen-camilla-rare-tiara-state-banquet/">pulled out of the vaults for the Qatari state banquet </a>in London, and Victoria wore the tiara with pink topaz and diamond drop earrings to go with her gown. </p><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:5796px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:66.67%;"><img id="xZuCVz8b47MeupCEWexvde" name="GettyImages-2189208050" alt="King Carl XVI Gustaf wearing a black tuxedo standing next to Queen Silvia in a blue sequin gown and diamond tiara, Crown Princess Victoria in a purple gown and diamond tiara and Prince Daniel in a tuxedo" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/xZuCVz8b47MeupCEWexvde.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="5796" height="3864" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="caption-text">King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia stood with their daughter (and future queen) Crown Princess Victoria and her husband, Prince Daniel. </span><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:4972px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:66.65%;"><img id="on7za9mwi2unKM8ctaMrpk" name="GettyImages-2188660008" alt="The back of Queen Silvia wearing a blue sequin gown wearing an updo and a diamond and sapphire tiara" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/on7za9mwi2unKM8ctaMrpk.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="4972" height="3314" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="caption-text">Queen Silvia rocked an elegant updo with her sapphire-and-diamond tiara. </span><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><p>Princess Madeleine—who <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/princess-madeleine-sweden-shares-passion-prince-harry-meghan-markle/">recently moved back to Sweden </a>from Florida with husband Chris O'Neill and their daughters—stunned in a sparkling green off-the-shoulder Fadi El Khoury gown with a dramatic train. Her tiara is perhaps my favorite of the night, the Connaught Diamond Tiara.</p><p>Its looped designs feature flower-like diamonds and dangling diamond drops, and the tiara can actually be worn as a necklace, too—as <em>The Court Jeweller</em> pointed out, Madeline wore it this way to the 2016 Nobel event. She brought out the green in her gown with sparkling emerald and diamond earrings and a matching brooch.</p><p>Last but certainly not least, Prince Carl Philip's wife, Princess Sofia, looked incredible in a royal blue gown by designer Soeren Le Schmidt; per <a href="https://x.com/ufonomore/status/1866502076458475861" target="_blank"><em>UFO No More</em></a>, it was a bespoke piece she wore for a recent Vogue Scandinavia shoot. She paired the patterned Jan Taminiau style, which she's worn on previous occasions, with a huge ruby and diamond tiara. </p><p>The piece comes from the Mellerio Ruby Parure, a set of jewels that was given as a Christmas gift to the Netherlands' Queen Emma in 1888, per <a href="https://www.thecourtjeweller.com/2024/12/sparkling-tiaras-for-queen-maxima-and-princess-amalia-in-amsterdam.html" target="_blank"><em>The Court Jeweller</em></a>. The cape-style Tadashi Soji design was covered in sparkling sequins, and she wore the dress with the same diamond star tiara her mother wore on her wedding day. </p><p>As for the rest of her look, she brought out even more bling, wearing a massive diamond necklace and bracelet along with glittering drop earrings. <p>With Queen Margrethe of Denmark’s shocking announcement on New Year’s Eve that she is abdicating the throne after 52 years on January 14, the world will suddenly be without a queen regnant (a queen born to the throne, not a consort that married into the family). Much like her third cousin Queen Elizabeth, Margrethe was the longest-reigning monarch in her country, and her loss to both Denmark and the global royal stratosphere is profound.</p><p>So, yes, royal families around the world may be helmed by a boy’s club right now, but that won’t last. Sweden, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Norway all have heir apparents that are women—so, when it comes to the global royal landscape, the future is very, very female. Long may she reign!</p><h2 id="crown-princess-victoria-of-sweden">Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden</h2><p>Though Crown Princess Victoria, 46, is the eldest of King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia’s three children, after her brother Prince Carl Philip was born in 1979, she was bumped down behind him in the line of succession because he is male—until Sweden changed its constitution so that birth order determined the line of succession regardless of gender. This change was effective January 1, 1980, once again making Victoria the heir apparent after seven months as No. 2. (Most of the women here will be on the throne thanks to absolute primogeniture, just like what happened in Sweden.) When Victoria takes the throne, she will be Sweden’s fourth queen regnant and its first since 1720. Of these group of future queen regnants, Victoria is so far the only one that is a wife and mother; she married Daniel Westling in 2010, and they have two children.</p><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:1127px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:170.36%;"><img id="du4pUHwURMLofxBUnHYf3P" name="Victoria 4.jpg" alt="Crown Princess Victoria" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/du4pUHwURMLofxBUnHYf3P.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="1127" height="1920" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:3416px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:149.97%;"><img id="YcNYjogJuQoeefRZ8KFaUK" name="Victoria 2.jpg" alt="Crown Princess Victoria" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/YcNYjogJuQoeefRZ8KFaUK.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="3416" height="5123" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:1281px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:149.88%;"><img id="FENCSkVaCybV3YayE7mYnN" name="Victoria 1.jpg" alt="Crown Princess Victoria" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/FENCSkVaCybV3YayE7mYnN.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="1281" height="1920" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2833px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:145.15%;"><img id="vueXUSCAqRUhZMKZ5ELecL" name="Victoria 3.jpg" alt="Crown Princess Victoria" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/vueXUSCAqRUhZMKZ5ELecL.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="2833" height="4112" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><h2 id="princess-elisabeth-of-belgium">Princess Elisabeth of Belgium</h2><p>Princess Elisabeth, 22, is the eldest of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde’s four children and became Duchess of Brabant and heir to the throne in 2013 after her grandfather King Albert abdicated. This year, she is expected to undertake military training for 12 months at the Engineer Battalion in Brigade Nord.</p><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:1280px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:150.00%;"><img id="YRqLXnN7RxQiNV2thNruQb" name="Ingrid 2.jpg" alt="Princess Ingrid Alexandra" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/YRqLXnN7RxQiNV2thNruQb.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="1280" height="1920" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:3000px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:66.67%;"><img id="bFckW5oxMMWkRPrvXSakJZ" name="Ingrid 1.jpg" alt="Princess Ingrid Alexandra" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/bFckW5oxMMWkRPrvXSakJZ.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="3000" height="2000" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:4002px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:149.93%;"><img id="UtjPByuRtmoGemp4DkUm5b" name="Ingrid 4.jpg" alt="Princess Ingrid Alexandra" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/UtjPByuRtmoGemp4DkUm5b.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="4002" height="6000" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:3472px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:66.59%;"><img id="2wd5NQGzJtHktGNAGuCywX" name="Ingrid 3.jpg" alt="Princess Ingrid Alexandra" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/2wd5NQGzJtHktGNAGuCywX.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="3472" height="2312" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2747px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:183.29%;"><img id="AHNcaZGTLcTmUv9Rky3VtV" name="Ingrid.jpg" alt="Princess Ingrid Alexandra" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/AHNcaZGTLcTmUv9Rky3VtV.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="2747" height="5035" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><h2 id="princess-leonor-of-spain">Princess Leonor of Spain</h2><p><a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/princess-leonor-in-carolina-herrera/">Princess Leonor</a>, 18—the eldest of two daughters born to King Felipe and Queen Letizia—became first in line to the throne following the abdication of her grandfather, King Juan Carlos, in 2014, when she was eight years old. Since then, Leonor has taken part in a bevy of firsts: her first public engagement in 2018, when she was 12; her first public speech on her thirteenth birthday that same year; her first public solo engagement in 2021; and her first international trip without her parents in 2022. This past September, Leonor took the heir’s oath, officially declaring her as next in line to the throne and during which she swore allegiance to the Spanish constitution. Known as the Princess of Asturias, last August Leonor joined the General Military Academy to start her three-year military education and is currently an officer cadet in the General Spanish Military Academy. She is fluent in Spanish and English, has studied Mandarin Chinese, and, when she ascends to the throne, she will be Spain’s first queen regnant since the mid-1800s.</p><figure class="van-image-figure <p>The British royal family is nothing if not interesting, but they’re not the only game in town. There are numerous <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/">royal families</a> around the world—each with their own drama, and each with their own fashion-forward, glamorous standout. We’d like to introduce you to some of our favorite global royals whose fashion we follow fastidiously (and their lives and work, too).</p><h2 id="crown-princess-mary-of-denmark-soon-to-be-queen-mary">Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, soon to be Queen Mary</h2><p>Perhaps the most buzzed-about global royal of the moment is Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, who, after her mother-in-law Queen Margrethe’s <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/queen-margrethe-to-abdicate-throne/">bombshell abdication announcement</a> on New Year’s Eve, will become Queen Mary on January 14. In doing so, Mary will become the first Australian-born queen ever. She met her husband, Crown Prince Frederik, in her home country when he visited for the 2000 Olympics in Sydney; they met at a pub called the Slip Inn, and successful ad exec Mary had no idea that “Fred” was the heir to the <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/danish-royal-family-makes-peace/">Danish throne</a>. They married in 2004 and have four children and, in addition to being someone that Denmark can look up to, the Princess of Wales reportedly considers Mary <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/kate-middleton-princess-mary-great-friends-denmark-body-language/">the royal blueprint</a> to follow.</p><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2667px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:149.98%;"><img id="yephAhFpwSXAeJbvRiuoW3" name="" alt="Crown Princess Mary" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/yephAhFpwSXAeJbvRiuoW3.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="2667" height="4000" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:3419px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:150.04%;"><img id="JnLpBcgJatntcARmz6EWRo" name="" alt="Crown Princess Mary" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/JnLpBcgJatntcARmz6EWRo.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="3419" height="5130" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2667px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:149.98%;"><img id="b92C59ZzPgHdQLrbcUsiu7" name="" alt="Crown Princess Mary" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/b92C59ZzPgHdQLrbcUsiu7.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="2667" height="4000" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2667px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:149.98%;"><img id="GQAAg2GPxEBbT4qWiHi5P5" name="" alt="Crown Princess Mary" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/GQAAg2GPxEBbT4qWiHi5P5.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="2667" height="4000" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:1350px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:100.00%;"><img id="JfJxo9bhXYT8UCngk5VW9n" name="" alt="Crown Princess Mary" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/JfJxo9bhXYT8UCngk5VW9n.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="1350" height="1350" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:1924px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:193.40%;"><img id="vSah9bzvPcNyCjj2LGjUXn" name="" alt="Crown Princess Mary" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/vSah9bzvPcNyCjj2LGjUXn.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="1924" height="3721" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><h2 id="queen-letizia-of-spain">Queen Letizia of Spain</h2><p>Before marrying into the Spanish royal family in 2004, <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/queen-letizia-looks-chic-amidst-scandal/">Queen Letizia</a> was an <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/queen-letizia-wintery-white-pantsuit/">accomplished journalist</a> who worked for the Spanish version of the economic channel Bloomberg before moving to CNN+. id="crown-princess-victoria-of-sweden-2">Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden</h2><p>Fun fact about Sweden’s heir to the throne: though Crown Princess Victoria is the eldest of King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia’s three children, after her brother Prince Carl Philip was born in 1979, she was bumped down behind him in the line of succession because he is male—until Sweden changed its constitution so that birth order determined the line of succession regardless of gender. This change was effective January 1, 1980, once again making Victoria the heir apparent after seven months as No. 2. When Victoria takes the throne, she will be Sweden’s fourth queen regnant and its first since 1720. Victoria has been open about struggles with dyslexia, anorexia, and prosopagnosia, which makes it difficult to recognize familiar faces—especially difficult in the line of work she does. She speaks four languages (Swedish, English, French, and German), married her personal trainer Daniel Westling in 2010, and is the mother of two children.</p><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:1281px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:149.88%;"><img id="FENCSkVaCybV3YayE7mYnN" name="" alt="Crown Princess Victoria" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/FENCSkVaCybV3YayE7mYnN.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="1281" height="1920" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2833px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:145.15%;"><img id="vueXUSCAqRUhZMKZ5ELecL" name="" alt="Crown Princess Victoria" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/vueXUSCAqRUhZMKZ5ELecL.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="2833" height="4112" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:3416px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:149.97%;"><img id="YcNYjogJuQoeefRZ8KFaUK" name="" alt="Crown Princess Victoria" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/YcNYjogJuQoeefRZ8KFaUK.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="3416" height="5123" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:1127px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:170.36%;"><img id="du4pUHwURMLofxBUnHYf3P" name="" alt="Crown Princess Victoria" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/du4pUHwURMLofxBUnHYf3P.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="1127" height="1920" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:6976px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:66.70%;"><img id="ScyRbSpegGESJLKCHQCrYN" name="" alt="Crown Princess Victoria" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ScyRbSpegGESJLKCHQCrYN.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="6976" height="4653" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><h2 id="princess-madeleine-of-sweden">Princess Madeleine of Sweden</h2><p>Victoria’s younger sister Princess Madeleine is the baby of the five-person family of Carl Gustaf and Silvia, and, though born third in line to the Swedish throne, is now eighth thanks to her siblings’ children. They are the parents of four children.</p><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:1359px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:136.13%;"><img id="8K3H865M2gamRgw8VcA9X" name="" alt="Queen Rania" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/8K3H865M2gamRgw8VcA9X.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="1359" height="1850" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:3381px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:150.01%;"><img id="GByk8gqaPGVMqvQDEafeJ3" name="" alt="Queen Rania" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/GByk8gqaPGVMqvQDEafeJ3.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="3381" height="5072" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2667px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:149.98%;"><img id="ZmReDpQvsn8zRV4xkLJpX7" name="" alt="Queen Rania" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ZmReDpQvsn8zRV4xkLJpX7.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="2667" height="4000" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2667px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:149.98%;"><img id="ENfYg3EywY7juGBEbTMYR5" name="" alt="Queen Rania" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ENfYg3EywY7juGBEbTMYR5.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="2667" height="4000" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:3000px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:66.67%;"><img id="6LA8uSvwxNNcDMaTnUr6Vo" name="" alt="Queen Rania" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/6LA8uSvwxNNcDMaTnUr6Vo.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="3000" height="2000" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:3600px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:156.42%;"><img id="NqoVCgTgVaSV38iBUi83s9" name="" alt="Queen Rania" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/NqoVCgTgVaSV38iBUi83s9.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="3600" height="5631" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Getty Images)</span></figcaption></figure><h2 id="princess-charlene-of-monaco">Princess Charlene of Monaco</h2><p><a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/fashion/g22776425/princess-charlene-of-monaco-style-outfits/">Princess Charlene</a>’s title is a bit misleading: though she is Princess of Monaco and her husband, Prince Albert, is Prince of Monaco, in that country it means that they are on the throne.
