According to publicly documented outings, Dakota Johnson and Kendall Jenner have only been friends since June 2025. They hard-launched their connection in designer dresses on a Ritz-Carlton yacht (as one does) and, in November, reunited in cool-girl looks at a Tame Impala concert. Despite sharing the same taste in less-is-more fashion moments, Johnson and Jenner haven't reached the "we accidentally wore the same outfit" stage of their friendship. That is, until October 25, when the two were spotted together in L.A. in made-for-minimalists ballet flats.

Their going-out slippers were similar, but styled entirely differently. Hours after the actor was spotted with her rumored boyfriend, Machine Gun Kelly, Johnson looked more relaxed in jeans. She layered a brown leather bomber jacket over a black cardigan and her go-to Levi's denim.

For accessories, she carried (what appears to be) a sold-out, envelope-style clutch from Celine, which matched her white ballet flats. Don't miss the slim, black Mary Jane-style bands that secured the sleek It shoes.

Meanwhile, tapping into winter's celebrity-beloved robe trend, Jenner sourced London-based designer Conner Ives for the embroidered, butter yellow coat, with creamy white fur along the collar and cuffs. The supermodel stacked a satin blouse and black trousers underneath the jacket, and paired the look with leather ballet flats by The Row.

Jenner's new Chanel Maxi Flap Bag tagged along, too. She debuted the beige pebble leather bag at Paris Fashion Week last month, marking, by my count, her second Matthieu Blazy-era Maxi Flap.

Johnson and Jenner's closets are intertwined beyond the shoe racks. Last month, before Johnson hosted Saturday Night Live, she styled a $6,300 Valentino jacket. The same piece was seen in Jenner's winter wardrobe in Dec. 2025. Once again, both ballet flat aficionados finished with black ballerinas, but Johnson traded Jenner's stirrup leggings for Levi's jeans, of course.

Here's hoping Jenner and Johnson add more cool-girl conventions to their November and December calendars. My friends and I could use some "similar, but not identical" style inspiration for seasonal get-togethers.

Johnson was photographed leaving a workout while wearing a pair of black Nike V2K Run Shoes. The actress wore the very same pair of sneakers for an outing in December 2025, and it seems as though they might just be her favorite pair of Nike V2Ks.

Johnson styled her sneakers with sheer black leggings, a white cropped tank top, white socks, sunglasses, and a black baseball cap.

While the Materialists star appears to have a large roster of sneakers, Nike V2Ks remain a firm favorite for the actress.

Now, high-collar coats have been on my Fashion To-Do List since last spring. But at Balenciaga's Paris Fashion Week show last month, Lola Tung proved the striking shape has perfect-for-fall potential, too. Not only does the dramatic neckline make any layered-up looks more intriguing, but it also keeps décolletage snug when one forgets a scarf.

Once the curtain closed on Fashion Month fêtes, and front-row regulars like Hailey Bieber returned to L.A., the chic coat inspiration didn't cease. Thanks to 2026's cobalt blue takeover, Bieber's trusty trench became the statement piece of the season. If my favorite minimalist retires the khaki- and camel-colored coats in her closet, so will I.

Victoria Beckham, Kravitz, and even Harry Styles are also fans of stand collars. For off-duty outings, though, I plan on pairing it with leggings à la Tung.

Leopard-Print Coats

Two years after Jennifer Lopez's shearling leopard-dotted coat made waves in L.A., she showcased a similar Dolce & Gabbana topper at Milan Fashion Week. That time, however, it was cropped and fur-free to match her animal-spotted shorts and slingback pumps.

This season, J.Lo isn't the only A-lister with a soft spot for animal-print outerwear pieces: Everyone from Johnson and Rihanna to Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Lawrence has one, too.

Collarless Coats

Days after the red color trend took over New York Fashion Week's post-show scene, Zoë Kravitz pulled a sold-out The Row piece out of storage: the Cashmere Priske Coat, complete with a collarless neckline and an ankle-hovering hem. Kravitz debuted the tomato-tinted coat in Sept. 2023, but Teyana Taylor attended Calvin Klein's recent runway show in an almost identical suede style.

Pub Jackets

After a fabulous French Girl Fall, I'm manifesting a London Girl Winter with Monica Barbaro's Pub Jacket from ME+EM. Now, is Barbaro British? No—and neither am I. But she certainly looked like a Londoner in the multi-pocket houndstooth style, which, shockingly, hasn't sold out yet. Genuine London girls love the look, too, including Sienna Miller, Alexa Chung, and even Princess Kate.

Evening Jackets

Senior shopping editor Cortne Bonilla-Oliva isn't the only trendsetter styling the evening jacket trend. Dua Lipa and I are, too. On the eve of Chanel's Spring 2027 show, she sourced the French fashion house for a cropped, tweed-and-floral coat. To dress down the elevated design, she wore a black tank top, matching boyfriend jeans by Celine, and a croc, moss green bag from Chanel, of course.

Fur-Trimmed Jackets

According to fashion editor Lauren Tappan, fur-trimmed jackets will make all of my autumnal looks "feel undeniably rich." Since Penny Lane pieces are so "statement-making," she suggested pairing the boho-chic coat with "laid-back bottoms" like jeans. It seems Dakota Johnson got the less-is-more memo, too: Light-wash Levi's denim complemented her Valentino jacket's casually cool look.

Did you get déjà vu, seeing Johnson in the navy blue-and-brown number? That's because Lawrence and Kendall Jenner have sported the same $6,300 style.

Pop of Color Coats

Not long after Emma Stone and Daisy Edgar-Jones made a case for cobalt blue coats, the trend starred in Hailey Bieber's latest street style serve. To make the color as wearable as camel, the Rhode founder finished her off-duty outfit with a black crop top, matching bottoms, and slipper-style mules. I think I'll do the same this weekend.

Dakota Johnson's signature Nike V2K sneakers have been MIA for months. Last year, she rarely returned to Tracy Anderson's L.A. studio without the Jennifer Lawrence- and Kaia Gerber-approved pair. However, after her latest workout on October 21, Johnson debuted new Asics sneakers, which must have been giving her equally chunky Nikes the much-deserved rest days.

The paparazzi spotted Johnson after her dance-based cardio class in a black Lululemon bra, matching leggings, an oversized hoodie, Adidas-branded socks, and the supportive substitute for her once-signature exercise shoes.

She chose the Gel-Kayano 14 sneakers, which feature white mesh, green linework along the sidewalls, and cream-colored soles that stand tall. According to the Japanese footwear brand, the sculptural silhouette evokes the chunky dadcore energy of early-2000s sneakers. Lucky for Johnson, that's her taste in gym-ready trainers to a T.

While the "White and Hinoki Beige" color combination isn't as widely available as it once was, select retailers offer the $175 style in limited sizes.

Now, it's been a minute since Johnson sported Asics sneakers—four years, by my count. (Before that, the brand's running shoes played a part in the 2014 Fifty Shades of Grey.) That's not to say the Gel-Kayanos have been on hiatus from the celebrity street style circuit, though. Everyone from Lawrence and Tracee Ellis Ross to Jennifer Garner and Gerber prefers the time-tested, 30-year-old option for off-duty outings.

Perhaps the Materialists actor will follow the lead of Lawrence, who wore Nike V2Ks back in April 2025, and take the Asics Gel-Kayano 27 sneakers for a spin next.

After weeks of wearing Levi's 501 Jeans in New York City, the paparazzi spotted Johnson and her new brown trousers in Beverly Hills. Keeping it casual, she tucked an oversized graphic tee into the baggy corduroy bottoms, and added a matching leather belt. The actor slipped (what seem to be) her beloved velvet ballet flats by The Row beneath the roomy hems, her favorite ballerinas to wear with Levi's denim.

For her finishing touches, Johnson accessorized with black sunglasses, diamond drop earrings, and the VIP-approved Valentino Panthea Bag in a seasonal taupe suede. (Bella Hadid, Rihanna, Jenna Ortega, and Johnson's Verity co-star, Anne Hathaway, are fans of the chevron-embroidered bag, too.)

While the brand behind Johnson's perfect-for-fall pants hasn't come forward yet, her fans know she has terrific taste in cords. Back in June 2024, while filming Materialists in NYC, she styled an almost identical pair from Re/Done with a white T-shirt and mint green Adidas Samba sneakers. The velvety bottoms were brown, but its subtle burnt sienna undertone complemented the tomato red The Row sweater on her shoulders.

While the unwelcome warm weather might've delayed the start of Corduroy Season, you can finally test textured trousers without running the risk of overheating. For me, Black Friday is the most wonderful time of the year to stock up on Levi's jeans. But this year, I don't have to wait another month to refresh my denim drawer: Amazon's Prime Big Deal Days delivered a massive, Black Friday-adjacent discount on Dakota Johnson's signature Levi's style. So, what's the catch? The jeans will return to their pre-Prime Day price tag at midnight tonight.

If you find a good pair—real ones, not altered ones!—they're the classic that always looks good." The San Francisco-based brand hasn't touched the storied 501 Jeans since their launch in May 1873. That said, whether you're scouring your local thrift store the Dakota Johnson Way or taking advantage of Prime Big Deal Days, the denim shares the same silhouette that she can't stop, won't stop styling.

And ripped denim isn't the only Johnson-supported Levi's style on sale. 501 Jeans with the legs intact are 19 percent off their original cost, too, making them $38. Verity, the Amazon MGM Studios adaptation of Colleen Hoover's popular psychological thriller, became a fashion film the moment that Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson joined the cast as Verity and Lowen, respectively. Costume designer Jacqueline Demeterio used that to her advantage.

Verity marked Demeterio's fourth project with Hathaway; they first connected on 2015's The Intern, where she dressed the Oscar winner in preppy, made-for-Manhattan workwear. "We work really well together, and we really just wanted to make [Hathaway's character] Verity perfect...she trusts me, and I trust her," she tells Marie Claire. "We always feel like we really nail it, and again, I felt like that with her on this."

Demeterio and Johnson hadn't collaborated before, but the first fitting went well, "and it's really nice when that happens," she adds. Josh Hartnett, who plays Verity's husband, Jeremy Crawford, even "came in with a lot of different ideas," which Demeterio narrowed down to quiet "Elder Statesmen" elegance. "I always wanted to make him this grounded dad living in Vermont with [a little bit of] wealth, [as proven by his] sweaters from Elder Statesmen," she says.

She said it made a big difference to work with actors committed to pre-filming prep. "You don't want [to collaborate with] someone that's disinterested or someone that has a completely different vision," she says. "You don't want an actor going on camera feeling uncomfortable because then, they're just thinking about what they're wearing, and that can mess with what they're trying to portray with the character."

Unlike the book, the movie begins with Verity in a beige Louis Vuitton sweater, giving an interview to Gayle King. "When I saw the movie, I was surprised [to see] that [scene] opened it, [but it] was this really strong opening," Demeterio says. "High-end sophistication" inspired all of Verity's interview looks, but "the colors and fabrics" in her office, where the King interview took place, had an especially strong influence on her author-at-work uniform.

"Annie and I collaborated on her writing looks, so we had her in a lot of high-end knitwear," she adds. "An old [Fall] 2020 runway collection [from] Missoni was an inspiration for me because we decided to do this sort of Joan Didion feeling of when she was writing in her office." Vintage Proenza Schouler and Paco Rabanne made it on her mood board, too, giving Verity's knitwear a "1970s feel that felt right because it felt luxurious, but also real to her," she says.

Lowen's first scene also features neutrals, as she heads to a meeting of her own in a taupe cashmere coat from Theory, burnt orange corduroy bottoms by A.L.C., and black The Row boots. From the start, the costumes establish a link between the two characters: Both are authors of psychological thrillers, though the former is famous and the latter is undiscovered. Demeterio also points to the visual upside of dressing Lowen in light colors in a scene that sees a car accidentally splattering blood all over her: "to be able to showcase the blood [better]."

While the audience first sees Verity in a slew of straightforward hues, red is the character's signature color. "Annie and I both liked to incorporate the red whenever we could," Demeterio says, referencing a tomato-colored cardigan (courtesy of Gigi Hadid's Guest in Residence), striped raspberry sweaters, and bold red lips. "We felt like it was such a strong color for her, not only visually, but red does tell a lot of stories; it's confident, it's villainous, I think it's one of the strongest colors you have that makes a statement," she adds.

In one of the throwback scenes, a red Versace gown, with asymmetrical straps and delicate ruched drapery, makes Verity the center of attention in a crowded bar, drawing Jeremy to his soon-to-be wife. Later in the film, Lowen (who is ghostwriting a new novel for an incapacitated Verity at her home) finds an almost identical Versace dress in her host's closet. For Demeterio, the little red dresses needed to be distinct, but similar enough to make audiences (and Jeremy) think, "Whoa, Lowen looks like Verity."

She went back and forth on whether Verity and Lowen should wear the same Versace style: "It was believable that Versace was one of the designers that [Verity] had in her closet, but it wasn't too believable that she would hold on to that [date-night] dress for so long," she says. "Even though Lowen is turning into Verity, I wanted whatever her version of Verity was to still have some sense of who Lowen was." Demeterio was also drawn to the "second skin" nature of Lowen's ribbed Versace look, "because it wasn't this dress that you had to corset yourself into."

The dress's sweater-style ribbing also channeled Lowen's more relaxed, archetypal author look. "When she arrives at the house, she starts out very layered and very guarded with her sweaters and her knits; at one time I even had two sweaters on her because it was her protective layer," Demeterio says.

For her first outfit in Verity's house, "I wanted her to [leather jacket to] look very 'city' coming into this Vermont atmosphere." Even black Prada sunglasses—which stayed on inside—added to the out-of-towner feel. "As you see Lowen going through Verity's manuscript and all of her research, I wanted her [looks] to be a little bit more stripped down," she adds. She holes up in Verity's office, switching one sweater-and-jeans outfit for another. Much like Johnson's off-duty denim, Lowen sticks to straight-leg Levi's styles, which make even her preppiest knit (an argyle sweater) more wearable.

One of Verity's biggest plot twists comes in the form of a hauntingly white robe, which "had to look beautiful on both girls," Demeterio says. Both women wear the getting-ready go-to during intimate scenes with Jeremy, but later in the film, it reappears in a more haunting lake moment.

"Cinematically, I wanted there to be a visual flow of that fabric moving in the water," she adds. After a camera test, she liked the "shine of the silk charmeuse, the sheen when it caught the light." Demeterio and her design team sculpted this specific style for the film, inspired by an Agent Provocateur robe. "What I liked about it is it had almost an Old Hollywood, movie star quality to it," she adds. "It was feminine because it showed off their bodies really beautifully, which is hard to do in a robe."

At one point, Demeterio considered adding a statement chiffon sleeve, but then, it "became too costumey." Instead, her tailor stitched "some extra gussets so that you would really see the movement of it [in the water]."

After several twists and turns, the film ends on an inconclusive note, making audiences wonder who the actual villain is. Similarly, Demetrio didn't want the wardrobe to spoil the storyline: "I didn't want anything to look too sinister or too extreme."

Neither Lowen, Verity, nor Jeremy looks like the Verity villain, but beneath the top-tier sweaters, the blood-red Versace dresses, and the woodsy dad wardrobe, everyone plays a part in the twisted plot. The on-screen style is an accomplice in the crime.

To promote her new movie, Verity, Dakota Johnson took on hosting duties on Saturday Night Live on October 3. The actress was even joined by her friend Taylor Swift, who surprised fans in a Simkhai plaid mini dress.

As Johnson was hosting SNL just one day before her 37th birthday, she appeared to be getting into party mode with her outfit choices. Firstly, during her SNL monologue, the Fifty Shades of Grey star—who is styled by Kate Young—wore a vintage Versace mini dress made from flame red latex.

The skintight look hailed from the fashion house's Fall 2013 collection, per @dakotajohnsonscloset. The Materialists star wore a pair of Giuseppe Zanotti's Intriigo Mule 90 in Red Patent Leather, perfectly complementing her latex dress.

One week after surprise releasing The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, Taylor Swift made an unexpected appearance on Saturday Night Live. The reason for Swift's surprise appearance was pretty simple—her close friend, and the star of her "Patient Zero" music video, Dakota Johnson, was hosting.

To accompany her friend on SNL, Swift wore Simkhai's Wells Plaid Off-The-Shoulder Mini Dress in Otter Plaid, which is still available to shop and retails for just $595. Per the designer's website, the dress features "a softly draped bodice, and asymmetrical ruching through the waist," as well as a "subtly flared hem."

“The idea was creating clothes that were comfortable enough to wear at home and nice to wear out,” Chemla tells Marie Claire. At the time, she says, fashion offered ready-to-wear on one end and pajamas and loungewear on the other, with little in the space between. When she took the concept to department stores, buyers weren’t quite sure what to make of it. “They were like, ‘We can't put you on the ready-to-wear floor. We can't put you on the lingerie floor. Where do we put you? We need a floor in between,’” she remembers.

Seven years later, Leset has no shortage of places to go. Net-a-Porter was one of the brand’s earliest supporters; today, it is also sold at Nordstrom, Shopbop, Bloomingdale’s, and more, as well as its own stores in New York’s West Village and L.A.’s Palisades Village. Yet by taking something so basic as a good white T-shirt or a satin slip skirt seriously, Leset has ended up giving women exactly what they increasingly want. “I'm constantly just observing women, and how they're dressing, and how they're wanting to dress,” Chemla says. “And more and more women are wanting to dress in a way that makes them feel comfortable and allows them to move throughout their days with ease.”

If that sounds obvious in 2026, that's precisely the point. Consider fashion’s current fixation on easy cotton pants. Leset has been making them since the beginning. “This idea of pull-on pants that feels overly trendy right now is just our norm,” Chemla says. The brand doesn't make traditional pants with rigid waistbands, buttons, or zippers, Chemla explains; elastic and drawstrings have always been fundamental to its vocabulary. Even the Kyoto Carpenter Pant, which could easily be mistaken for Leset responding to the current appetite for barrel-leg, utilitarian trousers, has been in the collection for years. “It's maybe something that seems newer on the market, but it's been a staple for us for so long now,” Chemla says.

Chemla would rather make a piece that survives a trend cycle than one engineered to capitalize on it. “It's less about creating pieces of the now and more about creating pieces that women are going to want to buy and still want to see in their wardrobe 10 to 20 years from now,” she says. “So we focus really on those timeless pieces as opposed to the pieces that come and go.”

That philosophy has earned Leset perhaps the most convincing endorsement possible: Women with virtually unlimited access to fashion keep coming back to it. Lawrence has repeatedly worn the brand’s Margo tee and Yoko line. Gerber has made the Kyoto Carpenter and Arielle Pocket pants part of her off-duty wardrobe. Hailey Bieber, Dakota Johnson, Holmes, and others have all been photographed in Leset pieces—and, importantly, often more than once. Chemla says the A-list following wasn't orchestrated. “The celebrity adoption has happened so organically for us,” she says. “We have celebrities stopping into our store all the time to shop and just pick up and replenish their wardrobes.”

Early on, the first celebrity sighting felt monumental. Chemla remembers discovering Kylie Jenner had worn a Leset set and studying the photos with her team to make sure they weren't mistaken. “We just kept zooming into it, and we were 100 percent certain it was ours, but we almost just couldn't believe it,” she says. Celebrity sightings are considerably less surprising these days. “It's become such a natural part of the business,” Chemla says. “Obviously, we're so grateful for that because that has an incredible impact, but it hasn't necessarily been the focus of the brand.”

Perhaps that lack of focus on celebrity is exactly why Leset has become so ubiquitous among them. The brand’s clothes don’t require a styling team to make sense of them. They're what famous women wear in the decidedly un-famous parts of their lives: grabbing coffee, getting on planes, or running errands (though there have been plenty of Leset red carpet appearances, too).

Meanwhile, the rest of fashion has increasingly entered the category retailers once couldn't figure out how to merchandise, with a new “Leset pant” dupe popping up on my feed every month. Chemla isn't particularly concerned about competitors. “For us, it's really about just staying in our lane with our blinders on and not looking at what other people are doing and how they're doing it,” she says. Her analogy is: “It's like driving on a highway, and we're just on cruise control in the HOV lane, and people are coming in and out.”

Staying in that lane has occasionally meant leaving money on the table. In Leset's early years, Chemla says wholesale partners approached the brand about exclusive colors and altered versions of its products—even asking whether Leset could add conventional closures to its pants. “It was hard,” she says. “Seeing those dollar signs in front of us and having to just say no in that moment, knowing that it would benefit the longevity and the long-term business overall was so important to where the business is now.”

That “restraint,” she says, became one of Leset's most important growth strategies. “We've never wanted to do something that doesn't feel like Leset just to do it because it might bring in a big sale in the moment.” Instead, decisions are considered in terms of how they might affect the company's identity five or 10 years down the line. Ironically, growth has given Chemla more freedom to be particular. When Leset launched, approximately 80 percent of its business was wholesale and 20 percent direct-to-consumer. Today, Chemla says, between 60 and 70 percent comes directly from its customers. “Making that flip was always the goal because it gave us more freedom to dictate what we were able to produce and not produce as a small business,” she says.

There were pieces Chemla wanted to make from the beginning that never reached shoppers in the early years. Leset's first collection, for instance, included a full-length, double-faced red cashmere coat. Buyers weren't willing to take a chance on the higher price point, and Leset was too small to fund the inventory itself, so it never made it. Now, the brand can make those decisions on its own. “Being able to produce those styles that wholesalers weren't necessarily backing before has been one of the most exciting parts for me in the past two or three years,” Chemla says. “It's given us freedom in terms of our voice.”

That freedom is showing up in higher-priced fabrics and outerwear—the new fall collection features a $2,000 camel hair car coat—and an expanding universe of accessories. Leset has introduced socks, shoes, and hats, with each category intended to build toward a complete wardrobe. “You'll always see us expanding into categories that just feel like natural wardrobe essentials,” Chemla says. “We really do want women to be able to get dressed in Leset head to toe.”

For all the brand has expanded, Chemla's barometer for what belongs in that closet remains personal. “Instinct is a big one for me and just my gut feeling,” she says. When Leset has made something she doesn't fully believe in—or wouldn't put in her own wardrobe—she says it has generally proved to be a mistake. So she continually returns to the same questions she asked at launch: Who is the Leset woman? What is she doing? How is she living? And what does she actually want to wear while doing it?

Seven years ago, department stores couldn't figure out where Leset's clothes belonged. Today, women wear elastic-waist trousers to work, under-$100 T-shirts with four-figure handbags, and clothes built for comfort just about everywhere. “I think that that gray space is now the norm,” Chemla says. “Which is very exciting—that we've built it into something that is widely accepted, wanted, and appreciated.”

Leset once needed retailers to create a floor in between. Instead, the rest of fashion moved there.
