Boots Riley’s latest film, I Love Boosters, is truly fashion-forward, chock-full of style inspiration and reverence for personal style. But it flips the fashion world’s hierarchy on its head—making Miranda Priestly’s worst nightmare into the best fashion movie in years.

Corvette (Keke Palmer), the heroine of this genre-bending comedy, is a booster—a fly vigilante who robs ‘fits from the rich, er, their boutiques, and sells them at a much lower price. Her Oakland-based crew, known as the Velvet Gang, includes Sade (Naomi Ackie), a single mom looking for a come-up, and Mariah (Taylour Paige), who’s trying to make fetch happen with her slogan “Fashion. Forward. Filanthropy.” Their favorite mark is Metro Designer, the chain founded by visionary Christie Smith (Demi Moore), a former child genius turned creative director who’s like a haughty mix of Phoebe Philo, Andy Warhol, and Steve Jobs. Corvette, an aspiring designer, reveres Christie—at least until the icon steals one of her designs, turning the Velvet Gang’s underground enterprise into a revenge mission.

This fuels the film’s examination of who the Christie Smiths of the world exploit to stay on top. The Velvet Gang’s boosting may affect Metro’s bottom line, but “those urban bitches,” as Christie calls them, represent both her loyal customer base and a well of inspiration. In a telling moment, for example, a Metro customer picks the look Christie copied from Corvette off a rack while claiming “Christie Smith knows what the streets want.”

Eventually, the trio finds allies in others oppressed by the supply chain: Violeta (Eiza González), a Metro retail employee demanding fairer pay and working conditions, and Jianhu (Poppy Liu), a Chinese factory worker who spends her days sand-blasting denim alongside her family, much to the detriment of their health, due to the hazardous materials involved. Outside of documentaries like The True Cost and The Machinists, real-life workers like Jianhu are rarely seen as Hollywood heroes.

But I Love Boosters isn’t necessarily a screed against the fashion industry. Rather, Riley, who’s known for making surrealist films that point to the absurdities of capitalism, wants you to think twice about what goes into the garment you’re wearing. And underneath its commentary on the industry’s inequality, the core of I Love Boosters is a celebration of what fashion truly is, and what it can become.

Throughout the film, Christie conflates her products with wearable art, defining her clothing as her way of touching the world, or “changing humanity’s perception through color and fabric.” The people who wear her clothes are “reflecting the light they want to reflect.” Her speeches are presented as the type of self-mythologizing speech we’re used to seeing from tycoons, the real-life people who would claim that the working conditions of people like Violeta and Jianhu aren’t as important as their greater vision. But if you consider the words separate from her exploitative actions, don’t they speak to the basis of what fashion’s all about? Self-representation. Dressing for the you you want to be. The you you are, undiluted by your ordained role in the machine.

A movie like I Love Boosters doesn’t succeed unless it takes fashion seriously, both its essence and its flaws. In addition to their Robin Hood philanthropy, each Velvet Gang heist is also a celebration of inventive styling. Corvette doesn’t have the resources to fuel her couture dreams; she’s squatting in a closed fried-chicken joint, with her debt symbolized by a giant boulder pursuing her through the streets of Oakland. Thanks to the work of costume designer Shirley Kurata, it’s clear that Corvette built both her own wardrobe and the intricate disguises that the Velvet Gang wears on their runs by thrifting, scrounging, and upcycling whatever she can get her hands on. Kurata crafts maximalist, fantastical looks with innovative silhouettes and unexpected textiles; in a mid-film montage meant to get Christie’s attention, the looks range from Harajuku-inspired Acid Trip to Midsommar Flower Gown but Cunt.

Before the class war begins, Corvette sneaks into Christie's slanted apartment to get a look at Metro’s next collection ahead of its debut. As Corvette hides her affiliation with the Velvet Gang, her obvious adoration briefly wins Christie over, and the icon even admires her fan’s outfit. As Corvette explains the dress, she recalls its inspiration: her childhood memories of her parents’ car, its turquoise-blue interior. As an adult, Corvette feels safe when she’s enveloped in turquoise; Christie’s insistence that the dress is actually aquamarine is casually cruel, which foreshadows later intentional cruelty when Christie steals the anecdote for her own backstory, as a fuck you to the booster. The turquoise beef gets to the emotional heart of the characters’ feud; Corvette’s fashion is an expression of identity, and Christie wants to cannibalize her style and throw the actual, inconvenient person in the trash. It’s a visceral, personal depiction of a tale as old as time.

I Love Boosters ends at the start of a radical-progressive utopia, as the Velvet Gang and their allies inspire a grassroots labor movement that stretches across the world. Christie faces a unionization effort that will affect her pocket, in a clear argument that community and collective action are effective ways to bring change. The ending leaves the audience to imagine a better world. We may not know the specifics of how the labor movement will bring change, or whether the fashion industry can truly be equitable—but everyone Christie exploited has made a better life for themselves. The Velvet Gang, for instance, runs a community center funded by their boosting profits.

Fashion girlies aren’t immune to the general bleakness of living in America in 2026. After years of following “cores” and microtrends fueled by fast fashion’s constant output, young people are getting more vocal about seeking slower, greener alternatives to overconsumption. I Love Boosters invites viewers to look beyond surviving within the systems we have now and imagine a better one. What could the fashion industry, or the world, look like if the Corvettes and Violetas and Jianhus could rival the Christies? Maybe I Love Boosters’ stylish tale of collectivist power is the fashion movie we need.

Okay, I know that the point of the Cannes Film Festival is that we're all supposed to be focused on the movies, but I wouldn't be who I am if I wasn't absolutely stunned by all of the hair and makeup looks to grace the red carpet. I'm mostly talking about Demi Moore, who attended a screening this week wearing a wet and wavy hairstyle that stopped me right in my tracks.

Moore appeared at the 5th Annual Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles over the weekend wearing a deep red, floor-length gown with strappy shoulders and a deep V cut. While this has improved in recent years (though statistics regarding on-screen representation remain dismal), now more than ever, women in Hollywood are taking matters into their own hands and shaping the conversation around aging with their own art. And it’s paying off. Several films that see women wrestle with their age have garnered acclaim this awards season: the Demi Moore-led feminist horror film The Substance, the Gia Coppola-directed indie The Last Showgirl, which marks Pamela Anderson’s first movie in 34 years, the Amy Adams-led adaptation of Rachel Yodder’s novel Nightbitch (and, in some ways, the Nicole Kidman-starring erotic drama Babygirl). Though each film tackles the subject matter uniquely—whether following a celebrity fitness instructor deemed “past her prime,” a Las Vegas dancer facing an unknown path, or a stay-at-home mom who’s convinced she’s turning into a dog—what unites them is how their complex characters face both the internal and external. Their poignancy and power lie not just in these characters’ reckonings with their self-worth, but in realizing just how frustrated they’ve become with the glass ceilings that exist to make them feel the way they do.

These feminist movies have become frontrunners for Oscar nominations and will continue to resonate in cinema going forward. With the arrival of The Last Showgirl in theaters nationwide on January 10, Marie Claire asked The Substance writer/director Coralie Fargeat, Nightbitch co-writer/director Marielle Heller, and The Last Showgirl writer Kate Gersten about their projects and Hollywood finally embracing of stories that examine the complexities of aging.

Here, they share what they found most liberating in the writing process, the hurdles they’ve had to overcome, and where they hope the industry goes next.

Marie Claire: There’s a trend in movies that sees aging women as they come to terms with how society casts them aside. Why do you think we’re having these conversations now?

The Last Showgirl writer Kate Gersten: It's taken bravery—from writers, directors and actors but also from producers and distributors. We've actually been writing these stories for years, but they're finally coming to light because the ones putting forth the money for these projects are finally seeing how worthy, relevant, and necessary to female audiences they truly are.

The Substance writer/director Coralie Fargeat: Because women directors finally have more room to express themselves! These voices have always existed, but society didn't really allow them to be heard. That's why it's so important to have diverse voices and points of view in the cultural space.

Nightbitch writer/director Marielle Heller: It’s a good question. I don’t know why this is happening now, but I know, for me, it’s happening from a personal place of watching myself and my friends’ age and grappling with what that means as a woman.

MC: Did you have any surprising, refreshing, or even frustrating conversations while developing your project about wanting to depict aging through a female POV?

CF: There were many frustrating moments. I was hearing that movies with ‘a female lead don't sell as much as with a male lead’...which is unfortunately probably true because society has been shaped that way for so long. That's why we need all the more to support the new female voices that emerge. That means financing their films and trusting their visions even if they can be surprising and unconventional.

MH: I’ve had more frustration with some responses to the finished film. Amy [Adams] was asked by a male audience member if we’d ever considered telling the story from the husband‘s point of view, a man who goes out and feels the responsibility of making a living for his family. I wish I had been there. I would have said, ‘We’ve seen that story for decades. It’s called Death of a Salesman, American Beauty, or countless others.’ I guess I’m sort of shocked by how people are up in arms that the story is really from a woman’s perspective.

MC: What did you find to be most liberating about telling this story in such a nuanced way?

KG: I love writing female characters who don't have to be perfect. The cliches that society and Hollywood suffocate women with don't cross my mind while I'm in my writing process, because I'm basically just having conversations with the women/characters in my head. Especially with something like this, where I wasn't discussing it with anyone—no producers, no director, or actors—while I was writing it. It was just me and my imagination and my women.

CF: Being able to tell it in such a not nuanced way! Oh gosh, that was so liberating! As women, we are always asked to be delicate, polite, smiling, and it was so cool to do the exact opposite with The Substance. That is exactly what the film is about: to break free from the typical representations and constraints that have corseted women for so long.

MH: I truly was not worrying what men would think of this movie—for the first time in my life. I felt like Get Out gave me that permission. From my perspective, that movie wasn’t worrying what white people would feel about it, and I found that inspiring.

MC: Was there anything too unconventional in the script that you chose not to include or that you had to fight to include?

CF: I had to fight for literally everything. The whole movie is so unconventional and doesn’t convey the image people are used to seeing with female portrayal. This is what I wanted to fight against. I didn’t want to have my voice shaped by someone else. I wanted to be able to tell my way of experiencing the world, with its excess, its grossness, its specificity.

MH: I fought to show a woman and her aging body in a natural light. Amy was thankfully really game for this challenge and my collaborators all really understood the assignment, but I think it’s undoing some habits in Hollywood to not light, dress, stage a woman as a sex object.

MC: These films come from female filmmakers and screenwriters. What added perspectives do you think that brought to these stories?

KG: Oh, the whole damn thing. Women need to tell complex women's stories, it's that simple. Women's stories by men largely focus on sex or competition. That's the male lens. Depictions of groups of women by men are often all about conflict without care. Female characters can and should disagree and spar, but I think male filmmakers forget that we can do that with love, and that at the end of the day, most of us have each others' backs.

MH: I don’t really know how else to tell a story. My lived life informs every choice I make—which is why the more diverse voices making movies, the more diverse storytelling we get. It benefits everyone.

MC: Though these films vary in genre and tone (horror to comedy to drama) there’s a somber element at their crux. Why might that be the throughline?

KG: Because being a woman is complicated as hell. But actually, I reject the word ‘somber.’ It's just that what all of us have done here is we've been truthful. Being a woman can be wonderful and it can be miserable. We have to hold contradictions all the time, especially as we age. Being a mother is so hard, yet so fulfilling. Feeling beautiful but ignored is a real mindfuck. A truthful movie about themes like these isn't a ‘somber’ thing, it's reflecting how women feel and, to me, that is beautiful and uplifting.

CF: Well, just listen to the news. What’s happening to women everywhere is still such a fucking disaster. In the real world, we often don't have a choice but to silence ourselves to be able to make our way, so when we can really speak loud through our films, I guess it's the dark part that we can finally express.

MH: Because life is hard, man. Life is suffering. And it’s beautiful and magical. And also hard. Maybe it’s the national mood.

MC: What depictions of women aging on screen have stuck with you in the past, either positively or perhaps have shown how far we’ve come?

KG: One of my very favorite characters ever is Celeste Talbert in Soapdish, played by Sally Field. She's a soap opera star who feels obsolete at 45. She's paranoid and vengeful and completely insane, but I loved every second of it. It's a satire.

CF: One depiction that has stuck strongly with me is the old woman in the bathroom of The Shining. It’s how you represent a normal process like aging into a nightmare. This is the depiction that has unfortunately existed since the beginning of humanity and cultural representations, like the old witch, the old evil stepmother in the fairy tales, etc.

MH: I can’t think of many good ones, but I remember when I was making Can You Ever Forgive Me? [the 2018 drama about Lee Isreal] and I had this realization that Lee could only truly get away with her crimes because nobody really noticed her. As a woman of a certain age, she was fairly invisible. That was a lightbulb realization for me.

MC: What progress would you like to see from Hollywood with these kinds of stories being told? And more opportunities for older women on screen?

KG: Just let us tell more of our own stories. Female filmmakers and writers shouldn't be hard to find. P.S. Give us more money to make our films.

CF: Don’t dump these movies, support them! I want to see a real commitment to support new female voices.

MH: I just want people to watch these awesome movies. I want them to be taken as seriously as the wonderful movies about men and not be considered fringe. I want the money to reflect the reality of the world.

"I'm just so humbled and so grateful. 30 years ago, I had a producer tell me that I was 'a popcorn actress' and at that time, I made that mean that this wasn't something that I wasn’t something that I was allowed to have, that I could do movies that were successful, that made a lot of money, but that I couldn't be acknowledged."

"I bought in and I believed that. And that corroded me over time to the point where I thought a few years ago that maybe this was it, maybe I was complete, maybe I've done what I was supposed to do. She concluded by referring to how the themes of The Substance—which follows an aging fitness star as she undergoes a risky procedure that makes her a younger double—resonate. I had a woman say to me, 'Just know, you will never be enough, but you can know the value of your worth if you just put down the measuring stick.' While this Golden Globe marks Moore's first win at the awards show, over her career, she has been nominated for three other Golden Globes—for the films Ghost and If These Walls Could Talk. She also won an Independent Spirit Award as part of the ensemble cast of Margin Call.

Moore is expected to rack up more nominations throughout awards season. So far, she has also received a Critics Choice nomination for Best Actress. The Substance is currently streaming on Mubi, and available to rent on Amazon Prime Video.

Accepting the Spotlight Tribute award for her portrayal of the tennis player in Challengers, she and stylist Law Roach commissioned a custom, backless Louis Vuitton gown in Wimbledon white. Z had referenced her character's sport throughout the spring press run in tennis whites from Ralph Lauren, Loewe, Thom Browne, and Louis Vuitton, but this look was intentionally less court-inspired than those previous numbers.

"It’s a little carry-over—maybe it’s Tashi a few years later,” Law Roach told Vogue. "But it’s mostly Zendaya, and where she is right now."

The floral Dolce & Gabbana gown hails from the season 4 episode when Carrie Bradshaw trips on a runway—becoming "fashion roadkill" that model/Halloween costume scientist Heidi Klum primly steps over while wearing the dress above. It's a cheeky reference in a competitive awards season and it brought a refreshing burst of color to a relatively muted carpet. Here's hoping Sarah Jessica Parker saw it, and invited Kidman for a cameo on And Just Like That... season 3.

Styling duo Wayman + Micah chose the carpet's most intriguing look of the 2024 Gotham Awards with this Alexander McQueen Resort 2025 dress for The Piano Lesson star Danielle Deadwyler. It creates the illusion of two pieces styled into one: a sequin-coated red shirt dress with an untucked, asymmetric hem, placed over a below-the-knee white skirt coated in sprinkles of even more embellishments. Sparkle on a red carpet is to be expected, but this dress's construction wasn't. The result was the sort of dress I couldn't stop staring at—and wished I could pull off myself.

Promoting The Substance, Demi Moore has mostly hewed to a palette horror fans are familiar with: mainly, black and red with hints of royal navy. For the 2024 Gotham Awards, she and stylist Brad Goreski left method dressing aside to celebrate the moment. Can the naked dress trend ever be demure? It sounds like a style oxymoron, but Elle Fanning's semi-sheer Christian Dior skirt made it possible. Her gown, styled with a dainty Cartier necklace and a middle-parted bun, brought balletic refinement (and a chicly intricate woven bodice) to see-through dressing in a way that felt absolutely refreshing. I, for one, am even more excited for Fanning's A Complete Unknown press looks now.

Mikey Madison's Anora red carpet outfits have so far shied away from the lingerie and bandage dresses of her character. But for the 2024 Gotham Awards, she and stylist Jamie Mizrahi decided to tiptoe closer to "Ani's" personal style, with an upscale twist. The actress chose a Schiaparelli couture look consisting of a lacy, ribbon-tied bra top with a column skirt and semi-sheer opera gloves. The conservative shape and cut of her skirt felt true to awards season's formality, but her cropped top injected some going-out energy into the look. In 2015, my closet was all 3D florals, colorful blazers, and cap-toe pumps (essentially, the OG fashion blogger starter pack). And though these trends have been mostly dormant over recent years, Demi Moore has brought them squarely back into the limelight with her latest red carpet appearance.

At the Paris premiere of her new thriller movie The Substance on Nov. 5, Moore was positively blooming. Her knee-length dress was covered entirely in multi-colored 3D floral appliqués and was tied at the waist with a posh bow. The youngest Kardashian-Jenner sister stripped fully nude to recreate the poster for the 1996 movie Striptease, starring Demi Moore.

Kylie appeared to be wearing black hair extensions, plus a full face of neutral makeup, and toe polish matched to her skin tone. Demi Moore's new horror movie, The Substance, has been making headlines for its gory depiction of an aging starlet who will do anything to stay younger—and in an interview with CBS Sunday Morning on Sept. 22, the "Ghost" star admitted she can relate to her character.

The 61-year-old actress recently opened up about the intense pressure she faced to lose weight after the birth of her second daughter, Scout Willis, in 1991.

Moore—who was living in Malibu with then-husband Bruce Willis— said she embarked on an extreme post-baby weight loss journey that involved biking 30 miles to and from her home to shoot "Indecent Proposal."

"I think [Scout] was, like, five or six months old when we were shooting that," she told the news program. "So, I was feeding her through the night, getting up in the dark with a trainer, with headlamp, biking all the way to Paramount, wherever, even on location where we were shooting; then shooting a full day, which is usually a 12-hour day; and then starting all over again."

The star admitted, "Even just the idea of, like, what I did to my body, it's, like, so crazy, so ridiculous," adding, "I put so much pressure on myself."

As for being a woman in Hollywood, Moore said she “did have experiences of being told to lose weight, describing the experiences as "embarrassing and humiliating."

Now that she's in her sixties, the Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle actress has a bit more perspective, sharing, "you look back and you kinda go, 'Did it really matter that much?' Probably not."

However, at the time, Moore felt that getting back into shape was "everything."

These days the star is a mom to three and grandmother of one (oldest daughter, Rumer, has a 1-year-old daughter, Louetta) but don't expect her to be an overbearing granny. She told The Jennifer Hudson Show on Sept. 20 that she'll only give parenting advice if it's sought out.

"I am happy to share my experience, strength, and hope," Moore said. "But if I am not, it is better that I just keep my mouth shut.”

As for her body image at 61, the Hollywood icon said she tries to focus on the positive.

"Some days I look and I'm like, 'Wow. That's pretty good,'" she told CBS. "And some days, I catch myself dissecting, hyper-focusing on, you know, things that I don't like."

However, she said she can "catch" herself when she gets too negative. "I can go, 'Yeah, I don't like that loose skin. But, you know, it is what it is. So, I'm gonna make the best of what is, as opposed to chasing what isn't.'"

(Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah are the three children from the marriage of Moore to fellow actor Bruce Willis; the couple divorced in 2000, but they remain close.) 

“We’re like, ‘Oh my God, mom, mom, mom, this is amazing, you look iconic,’” Wiliis said of the group chat on a recent Today appearance. “We’re losing our minds.”

Willis also recalled to co-hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager the sacrifices their mom made when it came to her career, taking time off to raise them. Now, Willis said, watching her work is impressive: “She’s so talented,” Willis said. “I remember over the pandemic she was helping me with auditions, and I even had this moment where I was like, ‘Damn, you’re really good at this.’”

She continued “To see her be acting and getting accolades for her work and her fashion and all of it—it’s so nice to see. And I’m excited to see where this moment goes.”

Moore premiered her new film, The Substance, at Cannes last month, where the actress, 61, talked about her “vulnerable” role as Elizabeth Sparkle, who takes a black market, cell-replicating substance to become a younger, better version of herself, played by actress Margaret Qualley. “Going into it, it was really spelled out—the level of vulnerability and rawness that was really required to tell the story,” Moore said during a press conference. “And it was a very vulnerable experience and just required a lot of sensitivity and a lot of conversation about what we were trying to accomplish.” 

Moore’s performance required several scenes of full-frontal nudity, and Moore credited her co-star Qualley with making her feel comfortable on set. In Qualley, Moore said she found “someone who was a great partner who I felt very safe with,” she said. “We obviously were quite close—naked—and we also got a lot of levity in those moments at how absurd those certain situations were.”

The Substance was well-received at Cannes, getting a standing ovation that reports estimate to have lasted up to 13 minutes. 

"Ladies who lunch"—the age-old sect of rich housewives, socialites, and philanthropists who love preppy dressing, fine jewelry, and jet-set trips—are getting a makeover, thanks to season 2 of Ryan Murphy's "Feud." Dubbed "Capote vs. the Swans," the series' new entry highlights Truman Capote's (played by Tom Hollander) rise and fall within Manhattan society in the '60s and '70s. And its A-list cast, including "Swans" Demi Moore, Chloë Sevigny, Molly Ringwald, and Diane Lane, have fully embraced wardrobes inspired by mid-century muses—on and off screen.

Throughout the Hulu drama's press tour, the star actresses revamp socialite tropes, hinting at the original era's trends—matching handbags and heels, skirt suits, pearls, and leather gloves—with contemporary pieces and a carefree attitude. Moore, who plays Ann Woodward in the show, epitomized that point at the beginning of the press events: The actress wore a windowpane-print Carolina Herrera skirt and coat, an elevated pair of black sunglasses, Malone Souliers' Blythe mules. We assume her pet Chihuahua, Pilaf, was standing by as an as-needed accessory.

Naomi Watts, who plays Capote's close friend, Babe Paley, has followed a distinct formula with her wardrobe; stylist Jeannann Williams only dressed the star in black-and-white looks from Bottega Veneta, Miu Miu, Givenchy, Celine, Victoria Beckham, and more. Though their aesthetics varied, Watts' outfits were still unified—much like the unity between the Swans.

"[Babe's] favorite houses were Balenciaga, Givenchy, and Valentino. So, we went with Givenchy for the premiere look. In the first episode, she goes to a [Givenchy] couture show, so it's just a nice tie-in to Babe," Williams exclusively tells Marie Claire. "There's a lot of French brands, but I think it was more about black, white, modern, clean, honoring the fact that Naomi herself has incredible fashion."

Forever It Girl Sevigny opted for subtly textured looks that mix classic pieces with quiet luxury-inclined hues, including blazers, belted jackets, silky pajamas, and textured dresses in deep brown, black, and tonal blue hues.

The actress' "Swan" attire was in full force during a rainy afternoon of press when she stepped out in a tortoiseshell-buttoned navy peacoat atop a skirt trimmed with sheer black lace. For added formality, the actress' look was complete with a lizard-embossed Vivienne Westwood handbag and smooth black pumps, whimsically tapered by flared kitten heels.

Ringwald and stylist Andrew Gelwicks collaborated together for her "Feud" wardrobe, which included vintage-inspired pieces from Sea New York, Doen, Esprit, Scarosso, and Larroudé—plus a viral red Le Superbe dress, paired with sparkly Mindy Lam earrings and rose-topped Loeffler Randall sandals for an appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon."

"We all really loved her 'Fallon' look, where she wore that red sequined Le Superbe dress," Gelwicks exclusively recalls to Marie Claire. "I just loved how gorgeous she looked in it—the red-on-red felt like this really powerful woman, and it felt playful, sexy and really [true to] her."

Flockhart has taken the opportunity to embrace streamlined style—akin to the matching sets favored by "ladies who lunch"—on tour, stepping out in draped trousers, separates, and suiting in light and dark colors. For a daytime outing, the actress braved the rain in a chic cream suit, white pussybow blouse, and black platform heels.

Diane Lane completed the crew with a dash of elegance, thanks to her press tour wardrobe's jewel-toned suits, dresses, and patterned skirts in brown, red, and green tones. One socialite-worthy outing found the star in a deep green knee-length dress and Malone Souliers' crystal ornament-topped Vilma pumps; the brand's matching velvet Divine handbag created a formal complement in the spirit of "ladies who lunch." However, Lane's look earned a dash of '70s cool from her dark aviator sunglasses, as well as a brown leopard-patterned coat she nonchalantly draped over her shoulders.

In addition to their individual looks, the Swans have also made statements together, as seen at the show's Black and White Ball-themed premiere. Each actress embraced her own tastes in the event's namesake neutrals for the occasion; Moore was on-theme in a swan motif Balmain gown, as was Watts in a 2019 Givenchy couture dress and white Judith Leiber swan clutch (later swapped for a black iteration and a sheer Celine dress). Sevigny wore a whimsical bow-topped Christopher John Rogers dress, while Ringwald (in custom Rodarte), Flockhart (in paneled Zuhair Murad), and Lane (in sharp Cristina Ottaviano) were chicly draped in luxe black velvet.

“The Judith Leiber clutches...their team's incredible, and it was just great that we had both and we switched from one to the other," Williams recalls of Watts' double premiere looks. "They actually gifted her the black one so that she can always remember."

Memory was the clear thread that ran through the "Feud" cast's press wardrobe—thanks to our nostalgia for their vintage looks onscreen, as well as their clear excitement while enjoying the tour. However, this is just the beginning of a fashionable journey for all involved; we're certain to see the cast at New York Fashion Week (which we'll check out in February—with breaks for binging "Feud" and searching for the perfect '60s-inspired heels).

When I first saw Demi Moore carrying her teeny tiny pooch, Pilaf, in a sling while running errands, I thought it was a cutesy one-off moment. But now that the actress stepped out with her beloved pet, not just once or twice…but on four (!) separate occasions in January alone, it's clear Moore's new favorite accessory is her teeny-tiny dog. Forget a trendy handbag or pair of sunnies—we fully endorse Moore toting around her puppy around like a purse (I mean, that face! The tongue!).

Moore was most recently spotted out and about on Tuesday night while carrying her Chihuahua, Pilaf, in a black tote worn across her body. As for Moore herself, she wore a camel linen blazer with a gray sweater underneath. She paired her top with a midi leather skirt and white knee-high boots. Her accessories that night featured a mini purse in hand, along with aviator frames and diamond earrings.

Of course, we can't talk about accessories without emphasizing Pilaf—After all, the pup seems like the best statement accessory a girl can ever have.

We've seen Moore's adorable dog many times before yesterday's sighting. Since Pilaf joined the family in 2022, she (yes, she) has been seen tagging along with her A-list owner, sitting in the front row at fashion shows, in the VIP booths at tennis events, and even showing her support while at the OB/GYN. In case you haven't caught on, Pilaf is an up-and-coming "It" girl that everyone should be watching out for.

Moore has especially been toting around her itty-bitty baby a lot this month. On most occasions, the actress has donned a similar yet foolproof outfit formula of a long coat, a top-and-trouser combo, and boots.

Pilaf's first appearance in 2024 (that we know of) was in New York City on January 24. Moore was photographed mid-errands in a long black coat along with a graphic tee, straight dark wash jeans, and leather ankle boots. She had a white tote bag in one hand, and what was in the other? Miss Pilaf.

Moore's dog didn't get much attention until the after-party of Saturday Night Live on January 28. There, the actress pulled up in style to celebrate Dakota Johnson, who hosted that night, wearing her signature black coat once again. This time, she paired the outerwear with a black mock-neck top, sleek gray trousers, and white boots. She carried a Schiaparelli mini purse in one hand, and what was slung across her body? You guessed it: a very stylish Chihuahua.

The following morning on Sunday, Moore stepped out in her go-to black coat, styling her 'fit with a black tee and denim jeans. She had on black boots and sunglasses, carried a mini bag, and held Pilaf in one hand.

It's looking like we'll see more of Pilaf this year, and we hope more celebrities will hop on the wave. This is not a request but a demand!

When one plays a “Swan” (we’ll explain what that means in a moment), one absolutely must channel the elegant animal on the red carpet, okay? And that’s exactly what Demi Moore did last night at the New York City red carpet premiere of her forthcoming show, which doubles as Ryan Murphy’s latest—Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, which premieres on January 31 on FX. (It’ll stream the next day on Hulu.)

In the limited series, Moore plays socialite Ann Woodward, and did her proud in a glistening black and white Balmain dress with a swan design. The strapless piece had beaded accents and a bustier top with feather sequins, People reports. She added platform heels, 18k white gold dangling earrings, and bracelets and rings from Cartier; for the evening, she was styled by Brad Goreski.

“When the swan goes to the Black and White Ball,” Goreski wrote on Instagram. “@demimoore stuns in a @balmain gown and @cartier jewels to the premiere of @feudfx styled by me!”

Moore played the show’s name out on the red carpet, and her youngest daughter Tallulah Willis noticed, writing of her mother’s look that it was “truly astonishing, speechless,” she wrote. “the motif is motif-ing.”

Moore and her costars—including Chloe Sevigny, Naomi Watts, Diane Lane, Calista Flockhart, Molly Ringwald, and Tom Hollander—clearly coordinated outfits, all turning up in black and white ensembles. (There’s a reason. Watch the show.) But it was only Moore who was bold enough to take the swan theme all the way. What is a “swan” in this context? As Page Six puts it, a “swan” is “what author Truman Capote had labeled a group of New York City socialites.”

“It’s such a great lineup of extraordinary women [and] great roles,” Watts, who plays Babe Paley, told Entertainment Tonight. Sevigny, who portrays C.Z. Guest, added “I mean, love and betrayal, the main themes, we’ve all been through that,” she said. “Having someone you know that you trust then kind of turn their back on you and how heartbreaking that can be, be it a friend or a lover—I think there’s things that everybody can relate to.” 

This is the second installment of Murphy’s Feud franchise, following 2017’s Feud: Bette and Joan, where Susan Sarandon played Bette Davis and Jessica Lange played Joan Crawford.

On my gap year between high school and college, I've left London to get a taste of what it's like at a New York magazine. And my two-week stint at Marie Claire has started out fabulously. My first on-the-job assignment was to cover the premiere of Happy Tears, a dramedy about two daughters played by Demi Moore and Parker Posey looking after their dementia-stricken father (Rip Torn). Usually people find attending premieres to be a tad disappointing, but with my press credentials I found status on the other side of the rope. Shaking with excitement, I waited for Demi Moore at the very end of the press lineup—mere feet from the heavenly Ashton Kutcher in an alluring Russian hat. Demi wore an outfit plucked from Donna Karan's fashion week showcase. (Karan sponsored the evening along with The Cinema Society.) Moore saw the show the day before and said she thought it was "quite spectacular." Ellen Barkin who wore L'Wren Scott said that her interest in fashion began and ended with that designer as she sticks to her staple black for dress, pants and shoes and in terms of fashion trends is simply "not that interested in any of it." She called me beautiful and I had to bite my tongue to stop from saying something weird and stalkerish. Parker Posey, the only girl not to cling to black, matched her colorful graffiti outfit with a cheerful and bubbly attitude. Now let's get to the film: it was sweet and heart-warming. There was some great characterization especially from Barkin, playing the truly terrifying and disgusting father's girlfriend, and had some moments of real humor. Overall, the evening was amazing. The one thing I missed was a super-sized soda, a hot dog and two hamster cheeks of popcorn and skittles. But hey, my first star-studded event in New York City couldn't have been better.
