London Fashion Week ended on a perfect 75-degree day, but that didn't stop the front-row regulars at Burberry's Spring/Summer 2027 show from layering up. Maybe because the British brand's outerwear is so beloved, attendees ranging from Rosie Huntington-Whiteley to Jodie Turner-Smith styled leather looks more suited for February's Fashion Month circuit. With colder forecasts fast approaching, though, the fall and early-winter wardrobe inspiration was more than welcome.

Autumnal leather looks, from Burberry's creative director Daniel Lee, stole the show on the catwalk, too. During the spring runway show, the shiny material adorned cropped trench coats, bomber jackets, and track shorts—in a variety of earthy, cool-toned colors. Meanwhile, in the front row, Huntington-Whiteley, Gemma Chan, and Nara Smith created a sea of all-black attire. While Huntington-Whiteley revived the leather trench coat trend, the Crazy Rich Asians actor doubled up on calfskin styling in (what appeared to be) a statement jumpsuit.

With her husband, Jason Statham, admiring her outfit from afar, friend of the brand and model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley posed in a belted leather trench coat, strappy sandals, and diamond jewelry designed by Tiffany & Co. Beginning in 2023, similar calf-sweeping styles joined the coat racks of Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, Daisy Edgar-Jones, and Sienna Miller (to name a few fans).

Gemma Chan has been attending Burberry's London Fashion Week shows since 2011. So, her longtime stylist, Rebecca Corbin-Murray, had no trouble getting her hands on a belted leather jumpsuit from the Fall 2026 collection. The actor accessorized with Cartier bling, a matching black bag, and glossy block-heel boots.

Jodie Turner-Smith's Leather Look at Burberry

Jodie Turner-Smith (another faithful Burberry fan) found her rightful place in the brand's front row, wearing a burgundy matching set from the Fall 2026 show. The actor's argyle-print stole appeared on the runway, too, but she took creative liberties by slipping knee-high boots, rather than the shorter style seen on the model, over the leather pants.

Back in 2024, when Nara Smith made her Burberry debut at the Summer 2025 show, the influencer and her husband, Lucky Smith, coordinated in leather trench coats. Lucky didn't join her this time around, but her buckled leather bomber jacket and pleated midi skirt held down the fashion fort.

Princess Olympia of Greece's Leather Look at Burberry

Recent Moda Operandi collaborator Princess Olympia of Greece was one of the few VIPs at the Burberry show to opt out of outerwear. The royal still tapped into the leather trend, styling a black T-shirt with the same pleated skirt as Smith.

Fiona Shaw's Leather Look at Burberry

Fiona Shaw brought the green color trend to Burberry's Monday evening soirée. The Irish actor chose a mossy, borderline-black trench coat from the Fall 2025 archives.

Gigi Hadid isn't just a supermodel but a professional traveler, too. While recreating her runway looks might require connections to creative directors, it's easy to channel her cool-girl airport attire on your next flight. Case in point: On September 22, when Hadid arrived in Italy for Vogue World in Milan a laid-back chic look that could go from plane to work.

Hours before the fifth annual fashion show took over the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, Hadid was spotted backstage in a pale pink, long-sleeve shirt from Prada (whose Milan Fashion Week runway show was the same day), chocolate brown corduroy bottoms, and work-appropriate soft leather loafers.

Then, Guest in Residence founder sported Miu Miu's Pocket Bag, a shoulder style known for its protruding zipper pouches. To finish her off-duty outfit, Hadid accessorized with cat-eye sunglasses, a brown belt shade-matched to her bag, and diamond drop earrings. Fashion Month spectators may recognize her comfort-first footwear and Miu Miu purse: At New York Fashion Week, Hadid exited Tommy Hilfiger's spring runway show with the fall hero items in tow.

In addition to looking comfortably polished, Hadid's striped shirt tapped into a big Fashion Month trend. Fashion editor Lauren Tappan spotted stripes on the Spring 2026 runways of Zimmermann, Dolce & Gabbana, and more.

Outside Spring/Summer 2027 shows in NYC, horizontal lines in all shades and sizes also graced the street style circuit. While one showgoer wore a brown Staud crewneck with a cool blue collar with jeans, another dressed the trend up in a pantsuit. Stylist and writer Gabriella Karefa-Johnson joined the striped-shirt bandwagon, pairing a navy-and-camel long-sleeve with a lace-trimmed slip skirt.

Meanwhile, at London Fashion Week, striped shirts looked preppier than ever. The Montreal-based influencer Grece Ghanem tucked a red, white, and black polo from Marks & Spencer into a wrap-style camel skirt, contrasting the sportiness with heels and a mini bag.

Stripes then appeared on a baby-blue-and-brown top and a tomato-red-and-green rugby dress.

This summer, everyone from Julia Roberts and Lori Harvey to Natalia Bryant and Hadid wore striped styles on repeat, too. Now, as you transition your closet from summer to fall, make sure to save a spot (or two) for a shirt à la Hadid.

Stripping down is nothing new for fashion, literally in abbreviated clothes and pared-back aesthetics, and figuratively in its endless promises to return to the essentials. Still, restraint is rare in an industry where designers are expected to top their last collection, and brands are expected to top last year’s sales, preferably with another It bag. At Prada’s Spring 2027 show, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons distilled the bottom half of the wardrobe down to one thing: skirts.

The collection felt like a hall of fame for a garment Prada has spent decades perfecting. Miuccia, who has long made it part of her own daily uniform, took her bow in a pale pink metallic version with visible seams. On the runway, prim knee-length A-lines split open to flash floral fabric. Shiny wrap styles, embellished columns, familiar pleats, and full shapes floated around the body, alongside others that stood stiffly away from it. Some were sliced nearly to the hip. Others barely cleared it.

They were paired with leather biker jackets, cropped knits, checked tailoring, and bras worn as tops. Nearly every look came with a heel, moving from closed-toe pumps to open sandals, and a long-handled bag that dropped toward the knee. The femininity was obvious, but never delicate.

For much of modern fashion history, women who wanted to project authority dressed a little more like men. Trousers first represented freedom, then became part of a corporate uniform meant to establish parity with male colleagues. Women could still be challenged for wearing them on the Senate floor until 1993. The skirt remained the more explicitly feminine choice and, often, the one taken less seriously.

Designers, often men in charge of women’s brands, have spent decades deciding what the female power uniform should be. In the ’80s, authority came with exaggerated shoulders and skirt suits cut like armor. By the ’90s and early aughts, the pantsuit had become shorthand for a woman who meant business. Even when a skirt was involved, its authority usually came from menswear: the jacket, the shoulder, the pinstripe.

No single skirt was the power skirt here. Nearly every version could assume the role. This is familiar territory for Miuccia Prada, whose work has always found tension in the things women are told to consider pretty, proper, ugly, or inappropriate. Knee-length silhouettes helped define the early Prada wardrobe, while pleats have become something close to a house dialect. Spring 2027 gathered those ideas together, treating the category less like a trend than a paper-doll wardrobe whose pieces could be endlessly rearranged.

One of the great things about a skirt is the range it can offer across different bodies. Where a clingy trouser or cropped capri can leave some women feeling self-conscious, volume creates a little room between the body and the clothes. It can skim, stand away, or move with its wearer. It would have been nice to see that versatility demonstrated across a wider range of bodies on the runway. If the collection was an argument for the many kinds of femininity one garment can contain, the casting didn't make the case as broadly as it could have. Still, the shapes themselves made it easy to imagine a much wider life for them beyond the runway.

If Prada is the fashion bellwether it so often proves to be, the message for Spring 2027 is simple: Wear your skirt like a trouser. Wear it often and without ceremony, as the foundation of an outfit rather than its finishing touch. Miuccia Prada once put it even more plainly: “For me, the skirt is like a T-shirt. I put all my ideas there.” This show was that philosophy writ large. Pleats, columns, minis, and full A-lines weren't treated as precious or reserved for special occasions. They were presented as reliable, repeatable, and ready for whatever sweater, shirt, or jacket you have in your closet. You don’t need a new wardrobe. You might just need a new skirt.

Every Fashion Month since 2019, Jennifer Lopez has only RSVP'd "yes" to Fashion Week shows in New York and Paris. Fast forward to September 21, 2026, and the style icon finally returned to Italy on the eve of the Spring/Summer 2027 season. Lopez kicked off her street style series at a pre-Fashion Week dinner, wearing the peekaboo bra trend that hit the runway at Prada's show just hours later.

For her first Milan Fashion Week outfit since 2019—when she closed the Versace Spring 2020 show in a recreation of her iconic green jungle dress—it's only right Lopez showed a bit of skin. This office-friendly 'fit wasn't nearly as risqué as the cut-out Versace bodysuit, but because she's J.Lo, her white button-down remained undone, revealing a plunging black bralette underneath. Like the lingerie she styled in campaigns for Italian labels like Intimissimi and Dolce & Gabbana, the bra seemed to be lacy and semi-sheer. From there, the Maid In Manhattan actor shade-matched it to high-waisted, extra-long trousers, which shielded her peep-toe platform stilettos from the camera lens.

To finish her day-to-night look, Lopez accessorized with gold button earrings, a matching watch and bangles, and Dolce & Gabbana's My Sicily East-West Top-Handle Bag. Did this classic take on the east-west trend confirm she's attending Dolce & Gabbana's spring runway show? Only time will tell, but back in July, Lopez performed at the fashion house's "Alta Moda" showcase (wearing custom Dolce, of course).

For Lopez, as with Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, and Dua Lipa, peekaboo bras have evolved beyond their "trend" beginnings and into a fixture of her fashion. Not only does the A-lister regularly add lingerie to her work-ready wardrobe (usually by stacking bras beneath blazers), an almost identical bralette played peekaboo at Paris Couture Week as recently as July 2026.

In between runway shows, her stylists, Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn, dressed her in a Michael Kors Fall 2026 outfit, featuring an itty-bitty black bra, matching Bermuda shorts, and a statement feather short-sleeve coat. For her finishing touches, J.Lo paired her black-and-white look with Giuseppe Zanotti mules, a Chanel Flap Bag, and Tom Ford aviator sunglasses.

Lopez picked the perfect trend to announce her arrival at Milan Fashion Week. On Day 1, when models weren't walking the Prada runway in bras-turned-tops, lingerie emerged from beneath windbreakers, plaid shirtdresses, and trench coats.

After 25 years of presenting runway shows in Paris, McQueen's return to London Fashion Week doubled as a cool-girl convention for residents. Everyone from Lila Moss and Georgia May Jagger to Emilia Clarke and Florence Welch RSVP'd "yes" to the Spring/Summer 2027 showcase. But Alexa Chung's front row outfit—featuring a cropped McQueen corset and office-tested trousers—was a spot-on extension of the "Savile Row-meets-rave" collection.

For her first Fashion Month outing since the Carolina Herrera show at New York Fashion Week, Chung sourced the Spring/Summer 2026 line for a mossy green, lingerie-looking bustier. The taupe bone-in corset featured a lace-up turtleneck and structured cap sleeves. In a slightly weathered, "I came here straight from the club" type of way, extra-long, shade-matched laces dangled down the torso's cutouts and toward her knees.

From there, instead of the utilitarian Bermuda shorts and slouchy brown boots that graced creative director Seán McGirr's runway, Chung wore black low-rise bottoms. The pointy pumps and glossy clutch took the tailored trousers from work-wardrobe territory and into a going-out look.

It appears Chung shares McGirr's affinity for Londoners who wear the "wrong" combination. "London always stimulates me," he said after a black latex look closed the spring showcase. “There’s an attitude, there’s a playfulness. People mix things in a ‘wrong’ way. I love the wrongness.”

That "two wrongs make a right" energy also played a part on the catwalk: Models paired tailored suits with statement headpieces, satin slip dresses with metallic belts, and bridal-looking lace with mouth-shielding masks. Friends! Welcome back to another edition of Self Checkout. Ripping and running doesn’t even begin to describe what I’ve been doing over the last couple of weeks, but as I write this, I’m excited to report that I, once again, had a blast at New York Fashion Week. You know why? Because it’s for the girls! The Business of Fashion is calling it “Fashion’s Capital of Female Designers”, where more than 60 female designers showed. Put more succinctly, that’s half of the designers listed on the CFDA's official fashion week calendar this season. When people wonder what sets New York Fashion Week apart…well, that’s it! Clothes made for women by women. Something we should all get behind, right? RIGHT!

Another thing I really love about NYFW is that it’s where personal style really shines through. The editors and those who attend are a pragmatic bunch with places to be. Our clothes have to see us through—whatever that may mean for the wearer. For me, that meant often going from a show to podcast recordings to the US Open and back. So this week I’m breaking down a few of my favorite looks and what I loved about them.

Thursday

Thursday was a packed day. It started early at the Diane von Furstenberg show and ended at the US Open, where Marie Claire and Cadillac co-hosted a suite and an inspiring conversation. That meant that whatever I wore that day had to last—I left my apartment at 8:30 a.m. and didn’t get back home until around 11 p.m.

On days like this, my strategy is to bring a change of tops, but keep the same bottoms and shoes. So I started the day in a purple Dries Van Noten tank top but switched into the Kallmeyer option below for the Kallmeyer show and the US Open. I chose this tank top because I knew it wouldn’t wrinkle and I loved the flourish on the shoulder. It felt dressy enough for the U.S. Open later that day and a nice complement to my more casual surf shorts. I finished the look with heels that I could easily slip on and off if I wanted to change into my sneakers midday and Kallmeyer’s new Magazine bag.

Saturday

As I wrote in my last send, I lean on color and color blocking a lot during New York Fashion Week because it’s an easy way to make a statement, but you really don’t have to try that hard if you play with shapes and materials. Tibi generously offered to dress me for their show this season, and I fell deeply in love with the red leather skirt and the oxblood shirt that was shown with it. The midi skirt paired nicely with flat sandals. Do this long enough, and you quickly realize the subway or walking is the best way to get from show to show in New York, so comfortable shoes are a must.

Monday

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that these J.Crew pants were an impulse buy that totally paid off. And here’s where I admit that this purple Cos T-shirt was also an impulse purchase. But longtime Self Checkout readers know that this is my color of the season, so that should come as no surprise. Wearing them together made for one of my most-complimented looks of the week.

Tuesday

I’m going to be honest with you, by this point in the week I had nothing left to give. I was very tired of getting dressed, but knew I had a handful of shows left to attend. Enter another (now sold-out) green piece from J.Crew teamed with the Hailey Bieber x Gap jeans. By embracing color, a lot of the heavy lifting of making an interesting outfit is done for you.

Team Marie Claire didn't have the resurgence of the peep-toe boots trend on our Fashion Month bingo card. Fall's It boots report said to expect slouchy, suede, and cowboy styles at London Fashion Week, but locals on the street style circuit always keep us on our toes. Their Spring/Summer 2027 surprise? Pedicure-revealing boots that could've been plucked from a 2010s time capsule (or Kylie Jenner's archives).

London Fashion Week opened on a 70-degree day, a forecast that called for open-toe footwear options like flip-flops or toe-ring sandals (of which the post-show scene showed no shortage, either). Maintaining its reputation as the most experimental Fashion Week, showgoers left predictable pairs in the dust, instead breaking out their throwback boots.

Yes, the divisive hybrid design defies seasons, but that's not to say the fashion people outside the shows weren't styling the boots in a fall-worthy way. The peep-toe silhouette resurfaced in all shades and finishes, including glossy black croc with a subtle turquoise sheen. One guest committed to an all-black color story, from the coat beneath their horsebit belt to the curved wedges of their peep-toe boots.

Meanwhile, another showgoer gave them a daytime twist, wearing a goes-with-everything white tank top, a sage green blazer, the Bermuda shorts trend, and suede knee-highs. See? Londoners aren't just proving they're year-round shoes, but that peep-toe boots can complement minimalist and maximalist aesthetics, too.

Believe it or not, a shoe trend this niche—one that Balenciaga and McQueen made famous in Fall 2007 and Spring 2011, respectively—is still evolving. Even now, fashion people are playing with ways to wear the somewhat restrictive silhouette.

On Day 1 of LFW, another guest slipped a pair of thigh-high socks beneath their lace-up, peep-toe boots. Not only did the tomato-red tint highlight the open-toes and heels, but it brought a New York Fashion Week color trend across the pond. This showgoer coupled their unmissable socks-and-boots combination with an equally daring turtleneck dress and a Valentino tote in the same cool-toned crimson color as their hosiery.

It's been a minute since peep-toe boots click-clacked down a designer's runway, but they're alive in the hearts (and closets) of trendsetters with an affinity for nostalgia. While Tom Ford, Balenciaga, and McQueen showcased the It shoes in 2010s fashion shows, it was celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Rihanna that made them a fixture of the decade's fashion. Kardashian, for example, sported the silhouette on repeat in 2016. Most of her takes on the trend were skintight, including one with laces that stretched from her pale pink pedicure to her thighs.

By 2019, Victoria Beckham had given the cross between boots and peep-toe pumps her stamp of approval. The creative director didn't just design them for her eponymous fashion brand; she also added them to her personal shoe rack. In a matter of months, Beckham debuted new peep-toe boots in burgundy, tomato red, butter yellow, and even leopard print.

Keeping the peep-toe trend from bordering on outdated, Jenner sampled flip-flops-turned-boots from Sportmax in 2023. She did the same with knee-high black Jacquemus boots as recently as 2024.

Believe it or not, Cardi B even endorsed the trend's comeback while filming her music video for "AH HA." What's more, her black knee-highs appeared to feature flip-flop-style separators between each toe.

Jenner's boots featured thong sandal-type toe boxes that showed more skin than the pairs in Kardashian's or Beckham's archives. However, it seems the London Fashion Week crowd is drawing direct inspiration from the peep-toe boot trend's beginnings.

If you know me, you’ve probably heard me talk about the “unexpected red theory." Essentially, it’s a design concept that states a pop of red can instantly transform any outfit. TWP, Carolina Herrera, and Proenza Schouler proved this theory to be true, bringing their collections to life with red totes, clutches, and shoulder bags. So, if you’d like to level up your wardrobe this season, consider following their lead.

Textured Bags

Floaty tassels, fluffy feathers, fringed fabric, oh my! During the Spring 2027 shows, several brands—including Tory Burch, Simkhai, and Magda Butrym—championed dopamine dressing through textured accessories that sparked pure joy. With gloomy skies and cold temperatures ahead, now is the perfect time to invest in whimsical bags that will make your days a bit brighter.

Even before the first official New York Fashion Week show, it was off to the races (no, runways) for Team Marie Claire. Everyone from the editor-in-chief Nikki Ogunnaike to the deputy director of social media Christina Dambrosio brushed elbows with celebrities, served looks on the sidelines, and applauded Spring/Summer 2027 shows from American brands, both storied and burgeoning.

For our editors, Fashion Month began on the guest lists of Cult Gaia and Coach: Dambrosio and the associate social media editor, Ashlyn Delaney, spotted Katie Holmes in an all-black look at Cult Gaia and Elle Fanning in leopard at Coach. Once Coach closed the curtain on its 85th birthday party (with the gift of a new It bag), the interim senior fashion news editor, Irina Grechko, zoomed to Henry Zankov's artistic director debut at Diane von Furstenberg. She called the collection an "explosion of color, movement, and joy," but half a day later at Kallmeyer, the energy shifted to spotlight "understated confidence rather than excess," according to senior shopping editor Cortne Bonilla-Oliva.

Eckhaus Latta's New York Fashion Week Show

"Thanks to J.Crew's new collaboration with Eckhaus Latta, the bicoastal brand's Spring/Summer 2027 show became a can't-miss event on my calendar. Hours after news of the 'unpretentious' partnership broke online, lead designers Mike Eckhaus and Zoe Latta debuted a blend of eccentric textures, layered shirts straight out of the 2000s, and tasteful semi-sheer styles. It was a master class in styling minimalist silhouettes with maximalist shades and materials.

The same could be said of the J.Crew x Eckhaus Latta collaboration, which closed the show. Watching the label shift the spotlight to brand-new rugby shirts, skirt sets, and Rollneck sweaters influenced me to place another order."—Meguire Hennes, fashion staff writer

Cos has always understood that minimalism doesn’t have to mean stripped down, and its latest arrivals are particularly lush proof. As a fashion editor, I spend an unreasonable amount of time parsing new-in sections, and Cos’s fall offering has the sort of richness that makes even the simplest wardrobe feel entirely new. The palette alone is compelling: charcoal and inky navy sit beside saturated purple, a trending color, and jolts of lacquered red, while creamy neutrals soften the equation. More importantly, there are ample amounts of texture, movement, and architectural shape—qualities that keep these clothes firmly out of anonymous-boring-basics territory.

For this new-in edit, the outerwear is where Cos is really shining. Main characters include a sharply tailored grey wool coat that has elongated proportions I want to layer over everything from romantic dresses to baggy denim. There’s also a shearling gilet that turns layering into an event. Elsewhere, fluidity tempers all that structure: wide-leg satin trousers, a draped purple midi, and an embroidered sheer dress bring a sensual lightness to fall’s typically weightier wardrobe. Even the accessories feel deliberate, from a sculpted wool beret to a laser-cut shoulder bag and angular heeled loafers that rival Phoebe Philo. The best part? Mostly everything is under $500.

To know me is to understand that my wardrobe is rooted in a neutral palette. I’m typically a no-frills kind of gal who loves cream sweaters and chocolate brown suede coats. But recently I've been intrigued by the concept of experimenting with saturated hues. Why? Well, for one, I’m thinking of rebranding my personal style this season, and bold shades offer the perfect way to do just that. Primarily though, I’ve been convinced to make this shift after seeing the most delicious color combinations on the Spring 2027 runways.

While at Tibi, I spotted a chartreuse sweater styled with an olive green jacket-and-pants set. Defined by a tonal appeal, this combo is ideal for someone like myself who is gradually entering the color wheel territory. However, the moment I become more comfortable with high-contrast hues, I’ll look toward Tory Burch for inspiration. During its show, the beloved brand showcased a grape purple top alongside a grapefruit orange skirt, proving that vibrant mixtures don’t necessarily have to be intimidating.

Although these color combinations appeared on the Spring 2027 runways, you don’t have to wait until next year to wear them. In fact, you can start styling them now, and the curated edit below demonstrates how to do so.

Chartreuse & Olive

When this ensemble—Look 24, to be exact—came down the runway, there were audible oohs and ahs in the room. I personally loved how Amy Smilovic fashioned two cardigans as a double belt—a clever styling hack that I plan to copy ASAP. But more than anything, I was captivated by the way she teamed chartreuse with olive green, creating a striking duality between cool and warm tones.

Cobalt & Deep Violet

Oh Henry Zankov, the mastermind you are! During his debut for Diane von Furstenberg, the creative director played around with tons of bright hues. One of the standout color combinations was this pairing between cobalt blue and deep violet. There’s something about it that feels so regal and elegant. For my next dressy occasion, I’ll be sure to try this mash-up in the form of a sculpted dress and kitten heels.

Fuchsia & Cream

At Eckhaus Latta, rich tones of pink stood out among a sea of neutrals. Paired with a cream top, the fuschia skirt pictured above absolutely stole the show. I’ll be recreating this lovely combo with a soft cardigan and a sumptuous satin slip.

Grape & Grapefruit

Over the last few seasons, I’ve really been enjoying how Tory Burch has perfected the art of color combinations. For Spring 2027, the designer presented this juicy grape-and-grapefruit outfit that I can’t seem to resist. I’m going to follow Burch’s lead and ground the look with a pair of neutral shoes, as to not overwhelm the ensemble.

Dusty Rose & Moss

Crafted with shades of dusty rose and moss green, this outfit felt very garden-inspired. However, just because it’s grounded in classic spring colors doesn’t mean it can’t be translated into the fall season. Wear it during the cooler months with a warm blazer and lengthy bottoms.

Mustard & Tomato

Tomato red has been trending for a while now, but Ashlyn introduced a new way to style the familiar shade. Coordinated with mustard yellow, it felt ultra-bold in the best way possible. If you want to turn heads, consider the combination with a knit top and playful balloon pants. It’s a look that is sure to garner attention.

When Bella Hadid arrived in New York City on Monday, wearing a Coachtopia bag and Ugg boots, Marie Claire editors assumed New York Fashion Week brought her to town. But she didn't attend a single runway show. (Trust us, we would've noticed.) Instead, Hadid debuted an entire Fashion Week's worth of going-out dresses in between brand events with Chopard.

For Hadid, who starred in the Swiss jeweler's 50th anniversary campaign, the final day of NYFW began in a preppy sweater set from Mugler's unreleased Spring/Summer 2027 collection.

Hadid's stylist, Mimi Cuttrell, layered a charcoal gray mini dress over a crisp white button-down. While it's unclear if the identical sweater tied around her waist was attached to the sleeveless style, it featured the same cashmere finish.

Cuttrell and Hadid accessorized the office siren 'fit with a black top-flap bag, a brooch beneath her Oxford shirt's collar, and striped ankle-strap stilettos from Valentino. Her glamorous, Victoria's Secret Fashion Show-ready curls deserve a few finger claps, too.

Hadid then zoomed from the Greenwich Hotel to the Chopard boutique on 5th Avenue. But before the end of her shopping spree, she changed into her second look: a beige mini dress from Valentino's Spring 1996 collection. Without covering the bodice's bow (which created a makeshift empire waistline), Hadid layered a butter yellow jacket on top.

She styled her first vintage find of the day with satin peep-toe mules from La Perla, oversized Prada sunglasses, and a beaded shoulder bag by Badgley Mischka.

Once the sun set, it was time for the main event: the anniversary party of Chopard's Happy Diamonds collection, held at the private members' club Casa Cipriani. (Taylor Swift, Serena Williams, and Hadid's sister, Gigi Hadid, are just some of their celebrity clientele.)

The guest of honor arrived in a silver slip dress from Ralph Lauren's Spring 2008 show. Raffe Vintage—an archival boutique beloved by Hailey Bieber, Lili Reinhart, and Brittany Snow—supplied the look, featuring tulle-lined cap sleeves, a V-neckline, and cascading beaded chainmail.

Instead of the sheer gloves and asymmetrical sun hat from Ralph Lauren's runway, Hadid frosted herself in champagne-colored satin stilettos, an itty-bitty rhinestone clutch, and no shortage of Chopard sparklers.

After the Chopard soirée, the supermodel's style series migrated to Tribeca. Her vintage Ralph Lauren look traded places with Revolve's $450 Gaspard Mini Dress, featuring a silky cowl neck, an open back, and an asymmetrical lace-trimmed skirt. To finish the after-party 'fit, Hadid toughened up the mini's bridal shade with burgundy pumps.

Did we miss Hadid on the New York Fashion Week runway? Of course, she's always the star of the show. Still, Team Marie Claire is grateful for any Hadid appearances, especially when she's wearing vintage. Even if Hadid RSVPs "no" to Fashion Week showcases in Milan and Paris, here's hoping she has another going-out dress or two up her sleeve.

Since her early editor days, the Marie Claire editor-in-chief Nikki Ogunnaike has enlisted one "low-effort, high-impact styling trick" every New York Fashion Week: "party pants" paired with a plain-Jane top. Fast forward to Spring 2027's season, and celebratory statement skirts are the new failsafe style on every editor's Fashion Month mood board.

Patterned, textured, and shade-drenched skirts have popped up on celebrities, fashion insiders, and showgoers alike. Where typical trousers or grab-and-go shirtdresses might've previously filled the NYFW seats, anything-but-neutral skirts sat in the front rows.

Skirts in every length, from mini to maxi, came in polka dot, plaid, and floral prints, making guests unmissable as they zoomed from one fashion event to another. Even Ogunnaike tapped into the trend, tucking a deep plum T-shirt into a tomato-red leather skirt before the Tibi showcase on Sept. 12.

Much like Ogunnaike, NYFW guests grounded the "out-there" skirt trend with everyday basics on top. Think: neutral T-shirts, simple sweaters, billowy button-downs, and even graphic tees. That way, party skirts could embrace their "life of the party" persona without competing with another maximalist must-have.

Apart from occasional pops of color or split-toe Tabi sightings, fashion people wore their daring bottoms with relatively understated shoes, too. On the off chance a showgoer doubled up on prints, textures, or tints, classic silhouettes (heeled ballet flats, knee-high boots, or Mary Janes) restrained the bold look.

Decorative elements ranged from colored leather and 3-D embellishments to fringe, feathers, and beads. There wasn't a leading length among fashion editors and enthusiasts either. While midi skirts exuded more "I mean business" energy, sidewalk-sweeping maxis brought a boho-chic charm to the cityscape, and minis were the ultimate party pieces (great for the after-hours circuit).

The trend caught the most attention in the front row. At Carolina Herrera, Camila Mendes tucked a timeless black turtleneck into a leopard-print maxi (matched to a clutch in the same pattern). For the '60s-inspired fit, the Riverdale actor opted out of "party" accessories, slipping on black kitten heels, a matching headband, and pearl earrings instead.

Minutes later, Jasmine Tookes and Pamela Anderson arrived at the Carolina Herrera soirée in floral-print skirts. First, the supermodel shade-matched her tomato-red turtleneck to the calla lilies on her asymmetrical pencil skirt. Meanwhile, Anderson wore the same top with an embroidered midi that looked more like a flourishing garden than a piece of clothing.

That's not to say the statement skirt trend was confined to the pre- and post-show style crowds. Inside Lincoln Center, for its spring 2027 collection, Carolina Herrera's Wes Gordon showed elevated evening-out skirts adorned from waist to hem in a conversation-starting print of some sort.

Over on Prabal Gurung's catwalk, Spring 2027 skirts didn't just play with proportions and shades. Some of the most interesting slips were partially transparent, too. On Sept. 14, LaQuan Smith got in on the statement skirt fun, dressing models in as much animal print as possible.

And just like that, New York Fashion Week has come to a close, but this season's street style trends can (and should) live on in your autumn wardrobe.

By Fall 2025, designers including Miu Miu, Gucci, McQueen, and Nina Ricci were exploring electric violet, grape, and jewel-toned iterations, transforming a color once associated with prettiness into something considerably more subversive. The progression continued through 2026, as plum and royal purple surfaced across collections and Fashion Month wardrobes, offering a saturated alternative to the reds and cobalt blues that had dominated prior seasons. Now, the runway-to-reality cycle appears complete.

What designers proposed more than a year ago has migrated decisively onto the streets of New York, where purple feels less like a fleeting novelty and more like an established part of fashion’s evolving palette. Its appeal lies partly in its contradictions: sumptuous yet eccentric, aristocratic yet slightly off-kilter, dramatic without carrying the obviousness of scarlet. And with Spring 2027 collections continuing to embrace vivid pigmentation—including violet at Tory Burch and saturated purples at Sergio Hudson—the color’s NYFW street-style takeover may be less a culmination than the beginning of its next chapter.

The coats commanded attention (both on social media and in my editor group chats—hello NYFW!) with sweeping proportions, autumnal fabrics, and a slightly undone elegance that felt equal parts romantic and pragmatic. Rather than simply completing each look, the outerwear dictated its mood—proof that the right coat can do most of the styling work for you.

That idea translates particularly well to fall, when getting dressed becomes an exercise in thoughtful layering. I'm taking cues from Altuzarra and building five outfits from the coat inward, pairing statement-making (yet classic!) outerwear with pieces that complement rather than compete with it. Think checked skirts, patent-leather loafers, and unexpected accessories, like the basket bag. These are the kind of combinations that make bundling up feel like the best part of getting dressed.

Bella Hadid missed Coach's Spring/Summer 2027 runway show at New York Fashion Week, but that didn't stop her from celebrating the brand's 85th birthday. The supermodel waited until September 14 (the fifth day of NYFW) to deliver her present: Hadid's everyday bag endorsement of the Coachtopia Alter/Ego.

It's been two years since Hadid's latest NYFW appearance (her horse show was the Spring 2024 circuit's unofficial grand finale), but her sister, Gigi Hadid, has been holding down the fort. Last week, the Guest In Residence founder opened Tommy Hilfiger's spring fashion show in the street style scene's leading color trend.

The Ôrebella founder announced her arrival in New York in a perfect-for-fall layered look, featuring a white T-shirt as her foundation, the flannel shirt trend, and a brown suede jacket. She paired the trio of tops with cuffed dark denim, a tomboy trucker hat, white socks slipped into Uggs' Classic Ultra Mini Boots, and Coach's slouchy shoulder bag.

Both the boots and the bag felt especially on-brand for Hadid, but let's start by breaking down the patchwork shoulder piece, shall we?

Saving her Coach Brooklyn, Chelsea, Empire Carryall, and Tabby Bags for another day, Hadid debuted the newest addition to her ever-expanding collection. The New York-based brand's sustainable line, called Coachtopia, designed the single-strap style out of "soft leather and suede scraps left over from the making of Coach bags."

The $295 zip-top tote's mismatched exterior makes it one of the most unique purses in Hadid's closet, second only to the Alter/Ego Hobo Bag crafted from the same recycled checkerboard leather. She showcased the latter back in Oct. 2024.

As for her boots, it's no surprise that Hadid wore Uggs while traveling to NYC. Over the years, she has worn the brand's shearling-lined shoes inside too many airports to count.

Much like her Coach Alter/Ego, the Classic Ultra Mini seems to be a newcomer to her shoe rack. She has previously styled the Classic Ultra Mini Platform, the calf-length Classic II Boot, and the Classic Micro. Hadid stayed loyal to the brand's signature chestnut shades.

Shop Coach Bags and Ugg Boots Inspired by Bella Hadid

Katie Holmes experiences New York Fashion Week like a fashion editor, zooming from runway shows to VIP parties with just enough time to change outfits. Much like Marie Claire's editor-in-chief, Nikki Ogunnaike, Holmes carved out time in her NYFW calendar for the 2026 US Open. On September 13, Holmes channeled a fresh-from-fashion-week editor—in the trousers-and-loafers uniform—at the men's singles championship match.

Before Ben Shelton competed against Alexander Zverev on tennis's biggest stage, Holmes and her rumored boyfriend, Jason Bard Yarmosky, arrived at Arthur Ashe Stadium in matching black-and-white looks. Opposite Yarmosky's button-down and barrel-leg bottoms, the Dawson's Creek star styled an ivory crewneck sweater with cropped black trousers and Gucci horsebit Jordaan Loafers.

The classic loafers have remained in Holmes's regular rotation since 2016. At this point, it's tradition for her to wear them with shorter pants. That way, the Italian label's iconic, circa-1953 motif isn't buried beneath extra-long hems. As recently as last April, she briefly took a break from her go-to look, and wore black leather loafers with a red-and-blue midi skirt from Target collaborator Rosie Assoulin.

Whether they're khaki or black, square-toe or horsebit-adorned, Holmes has been wearing trousers with loafers for years. This NYFW, her day-to-night uniform is, once again, getting plenty of street time outside runway shows.

One guest paired almost identical pants with a tomato-red graphic tee (the season's leading color trend is everywhere, too), an oversized blazer, and ruched leather loafers. Meanwhile, another show-goer chose a chunkier penny pair to elevate the office-ready energy of their taupe, double-breasted pantsuit.

The loafer trend isn't the only Holmes-supported shoe taking over NYFW's street style circuit. Peep-toe pumps, Mary Janes, heeled flip-flops, and high-vamp flats are sharing the spotlight outside spring runway shows, too. Holmes even debuted Calvin Klein's take on the latter trend herself.
