Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have reportedly purchased a vacation home in Portugal, which will allegedly allow them to keep in closer contact with the Royal Family.

The Sussexes reportedly bought a home in Alentejo, Portugal, the Daily Mail reported. Speaking to the outlet, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams called the purchase "extremely significant," particularly as Harry's cousin Princess Eugenie lives in Melides, which is south of Lisbon in Portugal.

Fitzwilliams suggested that Meghan and Harry's decision to purchase property so close to Princess Eugenie demonstrates the "close bond" the cousins share. The royal expert also noted that the move "makes [it] clear that they are connected closely to part of the Royal Family and it will be interesting to see how they intend to develop this."

The royal expert referenced just how close Harry and Meghan are to Eugenie and her family. "[Princess Eugenie and Brooksbank] moved into Frogmore Cottage when the Sussexes vacated it and have reportedly seen each other in California and in Portugal, where Jack works," he explained.

Having a home in Portugal could give the Sussexes more access to the EU and the United Kingdom, too.

Fitzwilliams explained, "Will it, for example, lead to more solo or perhaps even joint visits to Britain, but without participating in royal life or royal rituals at Sandringham and Balmoral?"

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a "mega secret" trip to Portugal in September 2023, after leaving the Invictus Games in Düsseldorf, Germany. Page Six reported that Meghan and Harry spent time with actor Chris Evans and his wife Alba Baptista during the trip, although the meet-up was totally unplanned.

"[Evans and Baptista] bumped into the royals at a bar or restaurant while abroad in Europe," Page Six reported. "The couples did not know each other, and their run-in was completely coincidental."

Turns out, Prince William and Princess Kate turned down an opportunity to live at the famous Frogmore Cottage, once home to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

According to Hello!, the Prince and Princess of Wales refused to live at Frogmore Cottage because it was "too small." As a result, the late Queen Elizabeth gifted the residence to her grandson, Prince Harry, and his wife, Meghan Markle, in 2018.

Instead, the future king and queen of England live in Adelaide Cottage, which reportedly features four bedrooms including a primary bedroom with "gilded dolphins and ropes from the former royal yacht on the ceiling," the publication reports.

Frogmore is one of the "smaller royal properties on the Windsor Home Park estate," the outlet adds, but that didn't keep Prince Harry from singing its praises in his tell-all memoir, Spare.

"Frogmore was ready. We loved that place," the Duke of Sussex wrote at the time. "From the first minute. It felt as if we were destined to live there."

"We couldn’t wait to wake up in the morning, go for a long walk in the gardens, check in with the swans. Especially grumpy Steve," the royal continued. "We met the Queen’s gardeners, got to know their names and the names of all the flowers. They were thrilled at how much we appreciated, and praised, their artistry."

In 2023, the Duke and Duchess of York confirmed they were asked to "vacate their resident at Frogmore Cottege." The pair then posted their statement confirming the move on Instagram, along with a series of photos of the couple and their young family enjoying the residence.

According to Page Six, in 2023—and after King Charles asked his son to leave his U.K. residence—a reportedly distraught Prince Harry gave his father an ultimatum, asking: “Do you want to see your grandchildren again?”

The couple was asked to leave after they stepped back as working royals, citing security concerns and the ongoing racist attacks aimed at Markle in the press, the media, and according the couple allegedly from some senior members of the royal family.

In Omid Scobie’s bombshell book, Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival, the author called the decision to force Prince Harry and Markle from their home “a cheap shot from a wounded father bound by an institutional system that is often intolerant of human emotion.”

Now, years later, the rift between King Charles and Prince Harry is reportedly greater than ever before. King Charles is said to be refusing to take the Duke of Sussex's calls, including his son's inquiries into his ongoing cancer treatment and requests for security.

Most recently, a source claiming to be familiar with the situation told the Daily Mail that King Charles is seeking "spiritual guidance" when it comes to his fractured relationship with his younger son.

"Faith has always been a part of Charles' life and something he’s explored, but since becoming King it is playing a more central role," the insider told the publication at the time. "That reliance on faith and quiet contemplation has become a comfort and asset to him and helps him cope with the role as he adapts to being King."

Almost one year exactly since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle fully vacated their former U.K. home, Frogmore Cottage—located on the Windsor Estate—royal author Tom Quinn said that Harry is looking for a “permanent” U.K. home to stay in when he visits his native country, as he did last month (and ended up staying in a hotel after reportedly declining an offer from his father, King Charles, to stay at a royal residence).

Quinn told The Mirror that Harry—who, with Meghan and their two kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, now call the U.S. home, specifically Montecito, California—“misses some aspects of his old life” back in London. “Inevitably, the honeymoon period where everything in the States is new and exciting is coming to an end, and Harry is looking back at the past through rose-tinted spectacles,” Quinn said. (The Sussexes moved to the U.S. in 2020, four years ago.)

Specifically, Harry misses his friends from Eton and his Army friends, who haven’t made the trek across the Atlantic to come see him. “Harry is determined to find his own permanent home in the U.K., which is partly why he’s continuing his legal action to get the British taxpayer to pay for his security,” Quinn said.

Security was deemed the reason why Harry reportedly turned down Charles’ offer to stay at a royal residence, rumored to be St. James’s Palace, according to The Daily Mail, which reported the Duke of Sussex “is said to have declined his father’s offer because it did not come with any taxpayer-funded personal security provision, which would leave him staying in a ‘visible location with public entrance and exit points and no police protection,’” the outlet reports. According to The Telegraph, “Instead, he chose to stay at a hotel—presumably with members of the public—because it means he ‘could come and go unseen.’” 

The Telegraph added that Harry “remains devastated” about the withdrawal of his automatic right to police protection, which he is still fighting the Home Office over in the British courts. Currently, Harry has to give the Metropolitan Police 28 days’ notice before coming to the U.K. if he wishes to apply for security provision, The Daily Mail reports, “with each request assessed on an individual basis by RAVEC, the committee which oversees the protection of royalty and public figures,” the outlet writes.

Buying a permanent home in the U.K. would, at least, take the guesswork out of where Harry (and, hopefully someday, Meghan and the kids) would stay upon returning to the U.K. The King began the eviction process of the Sussexes from Frogmore in January 2023, coincidentally (or not) the same month that Harry’s tell-all memoir, Spare, hit shelves; the Sussexes were fully moved out of Frogmore by June, one year ago, and about one month after Charles’ Coronation on May 6.

“Meghan has said she’s only prepared to return to England if she and Harry have a place of their own and the security they both feel is essential,” Quinn told The Mirror. He added “If the couple manage to find a permanent home and sort out the security issue, they will certainly want to bring their children to the U.K.,” though Quinn did admit that “it’s going to take a lot of diplomacy” to get to the point where Archie and Lili could establish a “genuine and warm relationship” with the Prince and Princess of Wales’ three kids. 

Any future U.K. property would add to the impressive real estate portfolio Harry and Meghan already have in the form of their $14 million Montecito home, which Page Six reports has nine bedrooms, 16 bathrooms, a pool, a tennis court, and a two-bedroom guesthouse.

Prince Harry was more upset by his eviction from Frogmore Cottage than we maybe realized, according to one royal expert.

"At the time, few people realized what a slap in the face the eviction from Frogmore felt like for Harry. It was the last straw," author Tom Quinn told the Mirror.

"Harry was absolutely furious and in tears about being evicted from Frogmore. He felt his father had no right to do it and that it was purely vindictive. Harry couldn't see that choosing to stop being a working royal would inevitably mean being deprived of his royal residence. Harry took it as a cruel rejection."

In early 2023, news broke that King Charles had decided to "evict" Harry and Meghan Markle from their U.K. homebase in Windsor, a house called Frogmore. This decision, it later transpired, had apparently been made just one day after Harry's memoir Spare was released—a book in which the prince made many explosive revelations about the Royal Family.

It came three years after Harry and Meghan announced their royal exit. After the couple moved to the U.S., they retained their British home for their visits to the country—with Princess Eugenie and her family living in the house the rest of the time.

We of course already had some inkling that this all was a difficult time for Harry emotionally—and not just because anyone's father evicting them from a home would be heart-wrenching.

For instance, according to Omid Scobie, Harry asked his father after finding out about the eviction, "Do you want to see your grandchildren again?" Scobie also said that the Sussexes were "shocked" by the move.

Thankfully, these days, it seems like both Harry and Charles are looking to build bridges in their relationship.

Princess Anne has long been known as being tough as nails, and apparently it was she who laid down the hammer and pushed older brother King Charles to evict Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from their U.K. home of Frogmore Cottage earlier this year.

This revelation comes from the pages of Omid Scobie’s latest book Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival, where he writes that Anne was “at the forefront of the supporters of the firm approach” taken with Harry and Meghan, who stepped back as working members of the royal family in early 2020. Scobie writes that Anne “is said to have persuaded Charles to withdraw the use of Frogmore Cottage” from the Sussexes, which was given to them as a wedding present from the late Queen Elizabeth upon their nuptials in 2018. 

Not long after the release of Harry’s explosive memoir, Spare, this past January, Sir Michael John Stevens, the Keeper of the Privy Purse, sent a letter to the couple’s team pushing them to complete their exit from the Windsor property, The Independent reports. “The letter stated that because the Duke and Duchess were no longer working members of the royal family and lived abroad, they should return the keys to Frogmore Cottage,” the outlet reports. They vacated the property by early summer, and in June, Stevens confirmed their exit at the annual Sovereign Grant account briefing on royal finances.

“Safe to say that, as has previously been stated, the Duke and Duchess have paid for the expenditure incurred by the Sovereign Grant in relation to the renovation of Frogmore Cottage, thus leaving the Crown with a greatly enhanced asset,” he said. Harry and Meghan privately paid £2.4 million to cover renovations to the home, which they lived in until they relocated to the U.S. and have only stayed in a few times thereafter.

Anne, who is the only daughter of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip and is the second born of their four children, has always been known to be the most outspoken and blunt child of Her late Majesty and the former Duke of Edinburgh. Interestingly, Prince Edward—the couple’s youngest child—supported Harry and Meghan staying in Frogmore, and Scobie writes that the current Duke of Edinburgh was “uneasy” about what the decision would mean for the Sussexes, The Mirror reports. 

It’s less than 12 hours until the release of Omid Scobie’s bombshell new book, Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival, and snippets of the hotly anticipated book are making their way onto these here interwebs. Here’s one for you: per Page Six, a distraught Prince Harry once gave his father, King Charles, an ultimatum, asking him “Do you want to see your grandchildren again?”

The ultimatum was given earlier this year, after Harry and Meghan Markle were asked to vacate their U.K. home, Frogmore Cottage, which was a wedding gift from Harry’s grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth, in 2018. Endgame recounts the moment a “shocked” Harry and Meghan were told they had to leave Frogmore because they’re no longer working royals and no longer living in the U.K. (Harry and Meghan moved stateside nearly four years ago, unbelievably.) Scobie called the decision from Charles “a cheap shot from a wounded father bound by an institutional system that is often intolerant of human emotion.” Whoa. 

Harry was apparently left so upset by Charles’ decision that he asked him whether the King even wanted any kind of relationship with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, two of the King’s five grandchildren. Long plagued by security concerns, Scobie said that Frogmore—which was renovated by Harry and Meghan out of their own pockets—was the Sussexes “only true safe option when visiting the United Kingdom,” as the grounds are protected by armed guards. The question was posed to his father because, without that level of security, Harry doesn’t feel safe bringing his wife and children back to the U.K.

“Charles has barely seen Archie, and only met Lilibet, who was born in California, once in an ‘emotional’ first meeting last summer,” Page Six reports. “He is believed to have turned down an invitation to Lilibet’s christening in California in March as he was too busy.” 

So, then, the heartbreaking question from Harry, posed several days after being informed he and his family had to vacate Frogmore: “Don’t you want to see your grandchildren?” During the tense call, Charles’ silence was followed by a “half-hearted declaration that they would always have ‘somewhere’ to stay,” which didn’t give Harry “much hope,” Scobie writes. Weeks before, Scobie continues, Charles had been cold and brief on the phone to Harry after Harry’s memoir, Spare, was released. “A phone call had been brokered by a friend, as Harry thought if they didn’t speak then they would never speak again,” Page Six reports.

The final blow, Scobie writes, came when the Sussexes found out that Charles wanted his younger brother, Prince Andrew, to move into the five-bedroom Frogmore Cottage, far smaller than the 30-room Royal Lodge where Andrew has lived (and continues to live) for years. Harry and Meghan were apparently particularly upset that they had to pay $3 million themselves for renovations, and that their lease on the property ran well into the future. (Andrew still hasn’t vacated Royal Lodge; Harry and Meghan vacated Frogmore earlier this year.)

Today, Harry and Meghan want “peace for everyone,” Page Six reports. “They want their children to know their grandfather.”

Reports are emerging that, as they prepared to wed, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wanted to live in Windsor Castle, but were turned down by Her late Majesty. She instead gave the newlyweds Frogmore Cottage (located on the Windsor estate) as a wedding present; Harry and Meghan kept Frogmore as their U.K. home base even after relocating to the U.S. in early 2020, until King Charles took the property back to the Crown over the summer.

Before they stepped back as working members of the royal family, Harry and Meghan extensively renovated and upgraded Frogmore, eventually moving in around April 2019, just weeks before their first child, Prince Archie, was born that May 6. After Harry and Meghan moved to Montecito, California, Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, moved into the home for a time; the Brooksbanks now split their time between Ivy Cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace and Portugal, where they live part-time for Jack’s work.

The Times reports that Harry and Meghan asked, in regards to Windsor Castle, if “the living quarters could be made available after their marriage.” OK reports that Queen Elizabeth felt it would be “inappropriate” for the Sussexes to reside in Windsor Castle, and she “politely but firmly suggested” that they take over Frogmore instead. 

“The cottage was a big deal,” said Lady Elizabeth Anson, who royal expert Katie Nicholl spoke to for her book The New Royals: Queen Elizabeth’s Legacy and the Future of the Crown. (Lady Anson died in 2020.) “The Queen’s entrance into the gardens is right next to their cottage. It is essentially her backyard, her solitude, and her privacy. She was giving that up in gifting Harry and Meghan Frogmore Cottage. We all thought it was very big of her. She said, ‘I hope they’ll respect it.’”

The Prince and Princess of Wales now live on the Windsor estate themselves, relocating from Kensington Palace in London to Adelaide Cottage in early September 2022, shortly before the late Queen died on September 8. Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, though divorced for 27 years, both live together in Royal Lodge, which is also on the Windsor estate.

Princess Diana also lived at Kensington Palace (often called “KP” for short) for most of her life post-marriage to the then Prince Charles, and Harry and Meghan lived in Nottingham Cottage on KP’s grounds before moving to Frogmore. “Kensington Palace sounds very regal, of course it does,” Meghan said in the couple’s six-part Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan. “It says ‘palace’ in the name. But Nottingham Cottage was so small.” Harry agreed: “The whole thing is on a slight lean, [with] really low ceilings,” he said. “So, I don’t know who was there before, but they must have been very short.” 

Harry and Meghan moved into their current home, a $14.65 million estate in Montecito, in July 2020. The property, per Variety, sits on a private, gated street and is nestled on 7.4 acres. The home is about 100 miles away from Los Angeles, and, while the Sussexes could have asked Charles for financial help, Harry and Meghan were intent on purchasing their new home independently. “Harry could’ve asked Charles to contribute toward the cost of the house, but he chose not to,” Us Weekly reports. “Getting his dad financially involved would result in the royals having control over him. It would mean going backwards.”

Earlier this year, news broke that King Charles had evicted Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from their U.K. home base at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.

Following that dramatic event—which was reportedly precipitated by the controversial publication of Spare—the Duke and Duchess of Sussex now have to scramble for a place to stay if they want to visit Britain, which obviously isn't ideal.

When Harry was briefly in England a couple of weeks ago, he apparently requested to be put up on the royal estate somewhere but was refused, although royal aides confirmed to The Times of London that such accommodation will be arranged for him in future when possible.

Meanwhile, a friend of the Sussexes told The Times, "Not having anywhere isn’t overly helpful. There are friends and hotels, but I know they would like to have somewhere."

Harry was in the U.K. alone this month, as Meghan joined him later in Düsseldorf for the Invictus Games.

"Meghan seems to have decided that coming back [to the U.K.] more is not what she wants to do, but Harry would like to," the friend said.

"Having a base in his home country, despite everything that has happened, is appealing. There is work to be done here in terms of the charities, and there would be opportunities in the future where he’ll want to be here a bit more.

"If they could have kept Frogmore, they would have done—it was the perfect setup for them. When he last stayed there, he did a whole load of clearing-out, and he was sanguine about it but pretty sad."

As far as we know, Meghan has not been to the U.K. since the Queen's funeral last year, though Harry attended the King's Coronation in May, was in the country in September for the WellChild Awards, and has also made the trip over for various court cases. Obviously, such visits are complicated by the simple fact of their lack of convenient accommodation.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have officially vacated Frogmore Cottage.

Though we've known for months that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had been asked to leave their U.K. home base, and that they were making arrangements to move their belongings out of the Windsor house, Buckingham Palace has now made it extra official during this year's annual Sovereign Grant account briefing. This briefing reveals where taxpayer money has gone in terms of royal expenses over the past year.

"We can confirm that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have vacated Frogmore Cottage," Sir Michael Stevens, Keeper of the Privy Purse, said (via the Independent). As a British person myself, I would like to pause here for us all to notice how fun a title "Keeper of the Privy Purse" is—like literally something out of Harry Potter.

Anyway, moving on, Sir Michael continued, "We will not be going into any detail on those arrangements here. Safe to say that, as has previously been stated, the duke and duchess have paid for the expenditure incurred by the Sovereign Grant in relation to the renovation of Frogmore Cottage, thus leaving the Crown with a greatly enhanced asset."

Indeed, after leaving their royal duties behind in 2020, the Sussexes paid back the £2.4 million in public funds that had been used for renovations on Frogmore.

Since then, the couple had been lending the home to Princess Eugenie and her family (who still live in Frogmore now), and used it as a base on the rare occasions they were in the U.K.

But earlier this year, not long after the release of Harry's explosive memoir Spare, it was reported that King Charles had straight-up "evicted" his youngest son and his family from Frogmore Cottage, a report which the Sussexes later confirmed.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were evicted from their U.K. home, Frogmore Cottage, earlier this year, with the couple said to be able to use the home until early summer. Harry is apparently pushing that up to time, as Frogmore is where he reportedly stayed while in his home country for a court case against Mirror Group Newspapers this past week.

Per People, Harry is now back home in California after testifying for two days in a phone hacking lawsuit leveled against the company. The Duke of Sussex alleged that Mirror Group Newspapers took part in unlawful information gathering, including the hacking of his phone voicemails. Mirror Group Newspapers is the publisher of The Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror, The Daily Express, and more, and Harry appeared in court on Tuesday and Wednesday before flying home Thursday to wife Meghan Markle and children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. 

In a witness statement released Tuesday, Harry said that “tabloids would routinely publish articles about me that were often wrong but interspersed with snippets of truth, which I now think were most likely gleaned from voicemail interception and/or unlawful information gathering.” It continued “I genuinely feel that in every relationship that I’ve ever had—be that with friends, girlfriends, with family or with the Army, there’s always been a third party involved, namely the tabloid press. Having seen me grow up from a baby (being born into this ‘contractual relationship’ without any choice) and scrutinized my every move, the tabloids have known the challenges and mental health struggles that I have had to deal with throughout my childhood and adult life and for them to then play on that and use it to their own advantage I think is, well, criminal.”

Frogmore is the former home of Harry and Meghan, given as a gift from Her late Majesty to the couple upon their 2018 wedding. The Windsor home is not far from Adelaide Cottage, where Prince William lives with wife Kate and their three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Harry and Meghan moved out of Frogmore and eventually settled in the U.S. following their step back as working members of the royal family in early 2020.

Back in March, a spokesperson for the Sussexes confirmed that Harry and Meghan “have been requested to vacate their residence at Frogmore Cottage.” The public got a glimpse inside Frogmore in their Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan, when the couple shared intimate photos from inside the residence. The family stayed at Frogmore in June 2022, when all four were in the U.K. for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, and Harry is believed to have stayed there when he was in the U.K. for his father King Charles’ Coronation last month. 

Harry and Meghan, prior to their step back, saw Frogmore as their permanent home: “We always saw Archie running around the garden at Frogmore Cottage, and maybe jumping in the Queen’s pond,” Harry said. “That was all part of our future, and everything changed really, really quickly. We knew we were going to get some breathing space from this very painful experience that we’d been stuck in, but also, at the same time, it was really sad.”

Last week, Prince Harry made his first U.K. visit since being evicted from his former English residence at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.

Where in the past it would have been a no-brainer for him to stay at Frogmore on trips to his home country, this visit posed the additional question of where he should stay in order to ensure comfort, discretion, and above all, adequate security.

So where did the Duke of Sussex stay during his short trip to England? The Telegraph reports that he actually stayed at Frogmore for what might be the "last time" (although the property is now occupied by his friend and cousin Princess Eugenie, so I don't know about that).

The paper understands that, while Harry's main purpose for the visit was to attend a court hearing in his joint case against Associated Newspapers, he also took the opportunity to organize his family's belongings that remain at Frogmore, and decide what to ship to their new home in Southern California.

This contradicts previous reports that the duke was "staying with friends in London."

Harry was in the U.K. to attend a four-day hearing for his court case against Associated Newspapers (the publishers of the Daily Mail), which he launched with a group of other public figures including Elton John and Elizabeth Hurley.

During the hearing, the prince expressed that he felt "deprived" of a normal adolescence by the alleged actions of Associated Newspapers, and declared that he was participating in this lawsuit "because I love my country and I remain deeply concerned by the unchecked power, influence and criminality of Associated."

The duke is believed to have flown back to California on Thursday.

It's been over two weeks since it was confirmed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had been invited to King Charles' coronation, but there's still no word on whether they will make it to the historical event.

Meanwhile, reports have been popping up claiming that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have a series of requests for the Royal Family and the coronation organizers, which they allegedly want fulfilled in order to attend.

These reported requests are: for their son Archie's birthday to be marked in some way (he turns four on the day of the coronation), for Archie and Lilibet to be included in the proceedings, to stay with Princess Eugenie at Frogmore, and to be included on the Buckingham Palace balcony.

"It really is a mess, to be honest," commentator Dominique Samuels told Sky News Australia.

"First of all, many people were wondering why the King invited them to the coronation in the first place. Secondly, I'm not surprised they have this list of demands, because it seems the King is really prepared to capitulate to all of them."

Still, Samuels believes there's one point where Charles could easily meet his youngest son and his wife halfway.

"On the bright side, what can happen is a bit of a compromise," she said.

"One of the things they have raised is that they want their children to be invited, they want their children to be included. It will be Archie's birthday, I think, at around the time that the coronation is taking place, so at least maybe we could compromise on including the children."

The balcony, however, is probably a non-starter.

"In terms of them wanting to be on the royal balcony, it's likely that will be reserved for working royals, and they chose to step away so they sort of need to deal with that reality," Samuels said.

The Sussexes were not included on the balcony during the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, though it could be different this time around since Harry is Charles' next of kin, and a show of unity could benefit the monarchy's image. Wait and see, people, wait and see.

King Charles recently evicted Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from their U.K. home of Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.

While the King reportedly offered the Duke and Duchess of Sussex an apartment in Buckingham Palace as an alternative, it sounds like the royal couple is looking into another second home instead. (They are currently based in Montecito, Southern California.)

Basically, it's likely there's quite a bit of behind-the-scenes royal drama right now, and one source says the Sussexes are looking to put even more distance between themselves and the Royal Family.

"The situation is rapidly becoming uncomfortable to the point of untenable," the source told Heat (via the Mirror).

"There are talks of keeping base in L.A. and heading somewhere new like Canada, South Africa or one of the other countries where they have more popularity and public sympathy.

"There's money to be made abroad and it fits their vision of global success."

As to what kind of environment the Sussexes could be looking at, the source said, "Harry loved the idea of living in a natural and eco-friendly environment—he's pushing hard to go down the private island route."

When they first left their lives in the U.K., the Sussexes famously fled to Vancouver Island in Canada, where they stayed for a while. They even filmed part of their Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan there, and seemed to be thoroughly enjoying it. Could that be the region they have their sights on?

Anyway, this is all just a rumor for now, so let's see whether it turns into anything as and when.

With under two months to go until King Charles III's historic coronation on May 6, royal experts are fighting for the winning prediction on whether Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will attend.

But after the news of the Sussexes' eviction from Frogmore Cottage came to light, royal expert Jennie Bond thinks the couple might use this slight as a reason to skip the national festivities.

"They may use that as another excuse since they've already got son Archie's 4th birthday celebrations as a 'get-out,'" Bond said (via the Mirror). Indeed, their son Archie's birthday falls on the day of the coronation.

"It's incredibly awkward—the choreography, where they sit, what role they have, watching Camilla's family and fraught with tension and awkwardness, and Harry might just feel he doesn't want to be there," Bond continued.

"But I'm still hopeful, for Charles' sake, that he will go."

This past weekend, the Sussexes confirmed that they had been invited to the event, but did not comment on whether they would attend.

A spokesperson for the couple said, "I can confirm the Duke has recently received email correspondence from His Majesty's office regarding the coronation.

"An immediate decision on whether the Duke and Duchess will attend will not be disclosed by us at this time."

With all that in mind, the Sussexes are said to be "disappointed" but not particularly devastated by the news that they need to vacate Frogmore.

A source recently revealed to OK! that Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank will now live in the property, adding, "The Sussexes are disappointed by the move but couldn’t be happier that Eugenie and Jack will take it over. They have been staying there on and off for the past few years anyway."

Meanwhile, a source told People that Harry and Meghan are "matter-of-fact" about the eviction. Still, Bond may be right that attending the coronation could feel like too much to bear for the royal couple. Let's see!

Learning that they had been evicted from Frogmore Cottage can't have been easy for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, but the reported final outcome isn't too bad for them, actually.

A source told OK! that Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank have moved into the Windsor home, after being given the keys two weeks ago.

"The Sussexes are disappointed by the move but couldn’t be happier that Eugenie and Jack will take it over. They have been staying there on and off for the past few years anyway," the source said.

When Harry and Meghan left the U.K., they retained a long-term lease on Frogmore, and lent it to Eugenie and her family, with whom they are really close friends.

"[Eugenie and Jack] went to see Harry and Meghan last month in California," the source added. "They took over some small personal belongings left in the property. They were also helping to box up items at Frogmore to be shipped over to California."

When the news of the eviction was first reported, word on the street was that it would be Prince Andrew moving into the house, but his daughter got it in the end.

"Andrew is delighted that his daughter will take over the property for the time being," the source said.

Eugenie and Jack are parents to a little boy named August, who was born in 2021, and announced that they are expecting a second child back in January. The source told OK! that the princess is "determined to have the baby in the U.K. and bring up her children in England."

That said, OK! also reports that Eugenie and Jack are planning to split their time between England and California, where they will stay with the Sussexes in Montecito.

As you have probably heard by now, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were recently evicted from their U.K. home of Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.

Since then, commentators have criticized King Charles' decision as a terrible move family- and public relations-wise, but royal expert Christine Ross thinks it was purely practical, rather than an attack on the Sussexes.

"While the story about the changes in royal housing seems cruel and badly-timed, it appears to be a logistical and purely logical development," Ross told Marie Claire on March 6.

"It has come as a bit of a PR nightmare for the Royal Family, but I imagine this was a decision to be made in the beginning of the new year that has now been carried out."

The expert added, "Meghan and Harry moved out of Frogmore Cottage and relocated to the U.S. full time, so they had no need to maintain a U.K. residence.

"We've also heard that they have been offered a comfortable apartment in Buckingham Palace, so they are certainly not left out in the cold. Staying at Buckingham Palace affords them even more security and safety, which is often their primary concern."

Ross is right: Privacy concerns have been one of the main issues people have found with the eviction. Since the Sussexes are now longer entitled to publicly funded police protection in the U.K., they counted on the Windsor Estate royal security outfit to keep their family safe while in Britain. But as the expert says, Buckingham Palace offers a similar level of protection.

Still, Harry and Meghan felt Frogmore was a "family home" according to one source who spoke to royal expert Omid Scobie, so no longer getting to use it must surely have come as a blow.

The royal buzz all week has centered around Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s eviction from their U.K. home Frogmore Cottage—given to the couple as a gift for their 2018 wedding by Her late Majesty. Because of extensive renovations done to the home, Harry and Meghan only lived at Frogmore for about six months before relocating to North America in 2020—first, to Canada, and finally, to the U.S., where they now reside in Meghan’s native California.

Harry’s cousin Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, lived at the five-bedroom Frogmore for a time before relocating themselves, in their case to Portugal. Now, it seems, Eugenie’s father Prince Andrew is due to move into Frogmore, a perceived downgrade from his beloved Royal Lodge, where he has resided for 20 years.

The game of royal residence musical chairs continues, as The Independent reports that King Charles is set to offer the Sussexes an apartment at Buckingham Palace—a suite of rooms that, in a weird coincidence, once belonged to Andrew. This will allow Harry, Meghan, and their two children Archie and Lilibet to have a home base in the U.K. where they can stay when they visit—which is increasingly rare and likely to remain so as tensions continue between the Sussexes and the rest of the royal family. The outlet reports that Charles sees the Buckingham Palace apartment offer as an “olive branch.”

“His Majesty is furious [with Harry], as is [Prince] William,” a source speaking to the Mail on Sunday says, per The Independent. “But the King is not a bad man. He has no wish to see his brother Andrew homeless or penniless. Nor does he wish to deprive the Sussexes of a base in the U.K.”

Frogmore is in Windsor, while Buckingham Palace is in the heart of London. The source says that, for Harry and Meghan, “London is a better fit. The Sussexes have always wanted rooms at Buckingham Palace. They could have Andrew’s old rooms there, which are currently being vacated.”

Earlier this year, the outlet reports, Charles “reportedly told Andrew he could no longer use his suite of rooms at the Palace.”

Though Her late Majesty lived at Buckingham Palace for the vast majority of her reign—and the Palace has served as the monarch’s official home as far back as the 1800s—the King and Queen Consort Camilla do not currently reside there, instead preferring to stay at Clarence House, their longtime residence. Marie Claire has previously reported that Charles and Camilla actually may never live there, as they are comfortable at Clarence House and the Palace is still undergoing a massive renovation project that could last as long as 2027. The King and Queen Consort apparently have no plans to move into the Palace until the renovations are complete, but still conduct engagements from there. 

After rampant speculation in the weeks post-release of Spare, multiple outlets confirm that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have indeed been invited to King Charles’ Coronation on May 6 at Westminster Abbey in London. It is still unclear whether Harry and Meghan will accept the invitation, a complicated decision considering recent familial rifts (culminating in the couple’s eviction from their U.K. home, Frogmore Cottage) and the fact that May 6 is also the fourth birthday of their son, Archie.

People reports that a spokesperson for Harry and Meghan said the pair “recently received email correspondence” about the Coronation. The Sunday Times released the statement in full, which says “I can confirm The Duke has recently received email correspondence from His Majesty’s office regarding the Coronation. An immediate decision on whether The Duke and Duchess will attend will not be disclosed by us at this time.”

It is a bit of peace in the midst of a tumultuous few months. Though there have long been issues within the family, the problems have peaked in the past three months, beginning with the release of Harry and Meghan’s eponymous six-part Netflix docuseries in December, the release of Harry’s memoir, Spare, in January, and the next-day decision to evict the couple from Frogmore.

People reports Charles is eager for the situation to “calm down” in time for the ceremony, which will see the King become the oldest monarch crowned in U.K.’s history (he is 74). His wife, Camilla, will be crowned alongside the King.

“It is such a momentous occasion for Charles, and he would want his son to be at the Coronation to witness it,” a source close to the royal household tells People. “He would like to have Harry back in the family. If they don’t sort it out, it will always be part of the King’s reign and how he has left his family disjointed. He has had a reputation as a distant parent, and it would be awful for him for that to continue.” 

The War of the Windsors? It was certainly shots fired after the January 10 release of Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare—and the retaliatory shot apparently came just 24 hours later, with King Charles serving his younger son and daughter-in-law Meghan Markle with eviction papers, demanding they move out of their U.K. home, Frogmore Cottage. As Marie Claire reported today, Charles’ vitriol over the book wasn’t even just about how he was portrayed in the book—he was mostly enraged about the treatment his wife, Camilla, received.

The battle had been brewing for a long time, with Harry and Meghan’s eponymous Netflix docuseries—released in December—potentially adding fuel to the fire, one that exploded after Charles was briefed on the contents of Harry’s tell-all. The Daily Mail reports that proceedings to kick Harry and Meghan out of Frogmore in favor of (of all people) Charles’ disgraced younger brother Prince Andrew were started the day after the book’s release—but that the decision was “extremely painful” for the King. (For the record, Andrew doesn’t want to move to Frogmore any more than, apparently, Harry and Meghan want to vacate it; he wants to stay put in his home, Royal Lodge, where he’s lived for 20 years.)

“It was felt that it would be like ripping off a Band-Aid,” a source says, discussing the decision to start the eviction process. “Painful, but once it’s done, it’s done.”

The Daily Mail reports that Charles “is particularly keen to sort many of the nagging issues remaining around Harry, Meghan, and Andrew before his Coronation, which have been allowed to ‘drag on’ for far too long.” (The King’s Coronation is in two months’ time, on May 6.)

Apparently, Harry and Meghan were originally asked to leave when their lease came up for renewal next month, but have been allowed to extend their least past the Coronation, begging the question, do the Sussexes intend to attend the ceremony and stay there while in country? (This is rhetorical—no one, probably not even Harry and Meghan themselves, know the answer yet.)

Notably, a Sussex spokesperson did go on the record this week to confirm the couple had been “requested to vacate their residence at Frogmore Cottage,” which The Daily Mail calls “a sign of their shock and anger at the move.” The outlet also reports that a “flurry of letters” has been exchanged between the Sussex team and the Palace in the past few weeks, and the “stunned” couple are already moving furniture to their home in California, including an ottoman and a chaise longue. The Daily Mail adds that Harry and Meghan find the eviction “cruel.”

The five-bedroom Frogmore Cottage in Windsor was given to Harry and Meghan in 2018 by Her late Majesty, but, amidst extensive renovations, the couple only lived there for six months before moving to Canada and, later, the U.S. The Sussexes kept the residence so they would “always have a place to call home in the United Kingdom,” even as they remained abroad. The initial plan was to return often and use Frogmore as their U.K. home base, but strained relationships in the past three years have seen the couple visit sparingly. After the Sussexes left the U.K., they rented the home to Harry’s cousin Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank; the Brooksbanks have since left Frogmore to relocate to Portugal.

“It all feels very final and like a cruel punishment,” an insider tells reporter Omid Scobie, long known to have close ties with Harry and Meghan. “It’s like [the family] want to cut them out of the picture for good. Harry and Meghan have until early summer to vacate. Initially they were given just weeks, but now they have at least until after the Coronation.” Scobie also cited at least two members of the royal family—presumably Eugenie and her older sister, Princess Beatrice—as being “appalled.”

As news of the eviction broke, Harry and Meghan were spotted looking happy and out for a date night in California. But, despite outward carefree appearances, this eviction is a big deal: “This surely spells the end of Harry and Meghan’s time in the U.K.,” an insider says. “Andrew is resisting the idea of moving into Frogmore Cottage after he was offered it last week. But it shows Harry and Meghan are powerless to stop the eviction.”

The "Book of Royal Drama" has now reached War and Peace levels, and growing...

On January 15, Marie Claire reported that King Charles was “angry and outraged” that Prince Harry attacked Charles’ wife, Queen Consort Camilla, in Harry’s memoir Spare, released just five days prior on January 10.

What we didn’t know at the time? Apparently on January 11—just one day after the book’s release—Charles started the proceedings to evict Harry and wife Meghan Markle from Frogmore Cottage, their home in the U.K. Charles’ reason? He couldn’t stand that Harry went after Camilla.

The Daily Mail reports that Charles believes Harry went too far with his comments about Camilla, both in the tell-all and in subsequent interviews to promote it. (In one interview, Harry referred to his stepmother as “the villain,” which, not surprisingly, did not bode well with Charles.) The King’s decision to evict Harry and Meghan was painful and difficult, the outlet reports, but, in his eyes, it had to be done. With the support of Camilla and the Prince and Princess of Wales—and after reading a dossier of findings from aides about the contents of Spare—Charles started the eviction proceedings the day after the memoir came out.

“It was the last straw,” a source says. “Harry was well aware how Camilla would be a red line for his father, and he crossed with flagrant disregard anyway. The King felt without a doubt it crossed a line—it was the ultimate sign of disrespect.”

As if there wasn’t enough chatter as to whether Harry and Meghan will or won’t attend Charles’ Coronation on May 6, the Frogmore eviction complicates matters further: now, if the Sussexes do opt to attend, where will they stay? (They actually might be able to stay at Frogmore for that visit—The Daily Mail reports that the Sussexes are due out by early summer, making the Coronation trip, if they choose to visit, one of their last hurrahs in their U.K. home. It was originally understood, per the outlet, that Harry and Meghan had been asked to leave when their lease came up for renewal next month.)

Despite this, a source says “It was felt that it would be like ripping off a Band-Aid. Painful, but once it’s done, it’s done.”

It seems, though rattled by swipes at himself personally and other members of his family, the disparaging of Camilla in particular was too much for Charles. The King’s friend Arthur Edwards says, per OK, “They could criticize the King, but to accuse Camilla of leaking stories—which nobody seems to believe is true—would not be forgiven.”

The Mirror reports that Harry and Meghan are “stunned” and “appalled” at their eviction. Royal expert Dr. Tessa Dunlop told the outlet that Charles’ actions directly fly in the face of Her late Majesty’s wishes to keep Harry and Meghan in the fold, calling the eviction a “big mistake. The optics are terrible.”

In the midst of Harry and Meghan’s eviction from Frogmore, The Daily Mail reports it has been offered to Prince Andrew, who is reportedly reluctant to leave his home at Royal Lodge, where he has lived for 20 years.

Speaking to The Mirror, Dunlop says “by conflating the separate issues of Harry and Andrew through the prism of Frogmore Cottage, it looks like our King cares more for his disgraced brother than his conflicted son and foreign daughter-in-law. The court of mainstream public opinion may currently be on the King’s side, but internationally, this move diminishes our monarchy just weeks before invitations go out to Britain’s biggest state ceremony of 2023, the Coronation. An event where you can now look forward to seeing Prince Andrew, but possibly not the Sussexes.”

The Mirror further reports that any expectation the Sussexes will attend the Coronation has now “drastically changed.” 

King Charles has surprised royal followers by evicting Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from their British home of Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor Estate.

And while some Sussex detractors are in favor of this move, one royal expert and historian believes this was a terrible idea in terms of keeping up appearances.

"Britain's response to the news has, on the whole, been gleeful. On one level the vitriol is understandable," Dr. Tessa Dunlop commented in the Mirror.

"Prince Harry had just lobbed several verbal hand grenades at his family and the former institution to which he belonged. But he did so from a position of weakness, on the outside, in pain and feeling side-lined."

Here, Dr. Dunlop is referring to the reports that King Charles decided on the eviction in the aftermath of the release of Spare, the shock memoir in which Harry made many damning revelations against his family.

"A broad-shouldered confident monarchy would have weathered the storm. With a coronation around the corner, the King has bigger fish to fry," the expert observed.

"Instead, by evicting the couple from the Queen's generous gift of Frogmore Cottage King Charles is going directly against the conciliatory style of Her late Majesty.

"Worse, he has conflated the problem of the Sussexes with that of Prince Andrew by asking the latter to relinquish his larger home, the Royal Lodge, and move into Frogmore Cottage. Big mistake. The optics are terrible."

Dr. Dunlop believes all of this drama will hurt the monarchy's reputation overseas, and claims that we are unlikely to see the Sussexes at the coronation on May 6 now.

The King has "evicted" his youngest son and his family from Frogmore, even though the Sussexes had paid enough rent for the "foreseeable future," according to royal author Omid Scobie.

The move also puts the U.S.-based royals at a security risk if they decide to visit the U.K., since they will have to do without the additional police protection they were afforded by virtue of staying on the Windsor Estate.

The mess we're in, my goodness...

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were spotted enjoying a date night at L.A. private members' club San Vicente Bungalows on Tuesday, just as the news of their "eviction" from Frogmore Cottage was beginning to circulate.

While paparazzi photos taken of them that evening show the Duke and Duchess of Sussex smiling, one body language expert believes they wanted to put on a brave face for the sake of the cameras—which is more than understandable given the circumstances.

"It can be a tough enough call when your parents re-decorate your bedroom after you first leave home, so an eviction notice has got to sting no matter how rich, famous and grown-up you are," Judi James told the Mirror.

"Harry and Meghan’s response here seems to be a deliberate projection of non-verbal 'shrugging' i.e. smiling widely and laughing in the face of the recent Frogmore news.

"But this looks very much like a performance. These smiles appear to be over-kill rituals rather than grins that are prompted by authentic happiness. Meghan’s underlying signals suggest she has gone into 'vulnerable' mode, while Harry's are all about underlying tension."

James also observed that the Sussexes tried to look extra happy when they came into clearer view of the cameras.

"Harry's expression seems to change from one of wariness to one of beaming delight as he steps out of the car and faces the cameras," she said.

"His behavior suggests some anxiety and a desire to protect as he hops about, rounding his group up ... and ushering them into the venue."

To be honest, as someone with a distinct lack of a poker face, I can only admire the Sussexes' show of bravery here, when they knew they were going to make the subject of endless criticism.

Their date night came the day before news spread widely about King Charles evicting them from Frogmore—though they presumably knew about it before the public did, or at least you have to hope so.

While the couple live permanently in Southern California, they retained Frogmore as a secure base for their returns to the U.K. They now will have to come up with alternative plans should they wish to visit.

Anyone who follows royal news to any extent will have heard about King Charles' unexpected decision to "evict" Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from their U.K. home at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.

Royal experts believe the move comes as a result of the publication of Harry's memoir Spare, which makes a number of shocking revelations about the Royal Family.

The move both signals and reinforces just how bad relations are between the Sussexes and the rest of the royals, especially Charles and William and their respective wives.

And for one royal expert, Prince William and Princess Kate are likely very on board with the King's decision to oust the Sussexes from Frogmore.

"They will be absolutely supportive of Charles’ decision. They probably don’t want Harry and Meghan as their near neighbors," Jennie Bond told OK!.

The Waleses have lived in nearby Adelaide Cottage since late August or early September, and a hasty Google Maps search tells me their home is a two-minute drive (or eight-minute walk) away from Frogmore.

Still, the Sussexes have been using their Windsor home no more than a couple weeks a year since they moved to California, so even with frosty family relationships, that proximity doesn't feel like the end of the world. Anyway...

"I think they’d probably have Andrew. They’ll be completely on board with this and support Charles," Bond added.

Charles has reportedly been trying to convince his disgraced younger brother to "downgrade" to Frogmore from his current home of Royal Lodge, though Andrew has been "resisting" such a move.

"Charles has probably spoken to William about this, but I think they talk about these things a lot," Bond continued.

The King's decision to evict Harry and Meghan has been described as something of a "settling of scores," and as a consequence of the release of Spare.

The book reportedly upset Prince William quite a bit, especially because of how much he is mentioned in it—and rarely in a good light. But for Bond, now that the fallout from the memoir is starting to calm down, the Waleses feel they can let their guard down a bit more.

“Kate and William seem more relaxed with each other than ever—bum tapping. Does that have anything to do with the dust settling around the Harry and Meghan book, interviews, Netflix program?" she asked OK!.

"I think they feel the worst is over. Surely not much more Harry and Meghan can say or do. They’ve come out of it pretty well."

ICYMI, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been asked to completely vacate their U.K. home at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor by the summer.

King Charles' decision to evict his youngest son and his family from the Windsor Estate reportedly comes as a result of Harry's publication of Spare, and the shocking revelations the memoir contained about the Royal Family.

"The loss of Frogmore Cottage comes as unwelcome news for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex," royal biographer Ingrid Seward told the Mirror.

This is doubly true because of the significant security threat the loss of this home represents for the Sussexes: Frogmore House is protected by the British Metropolitan Police since it is located on a royal estate, but the Sussexes as a unit are no longer entitled to that police protection the U.K.

But Seward focuses on a different aspect of what this decision means: It looks like King Charles is sending a strong message to the Sussexes that he disapproves of their choices of late.

"The fact the King’s son Harry is being targeted cannot but help look like a settling of scores for the disloyalty to his family in his explosive memoir Spare," Seward claimed.

"Charles will always love his son but as he said in his first public address as King, Harry and Meghan would 'continue to build their lives overseas.' Buckingham Palace have therefore been in discussion with the California-based couple about their need for a residence in the U.K.

"The suggestion to give up Frogmore did apparently not go down well especially as they have paid their rental to the Crown Estate in advance. But within the Royal Family nothing is impossible and duly an eviction order has been obtained to get them out of the cottage before their tenure is up."

Although Seward uses the word "suggestion," it doesn't sound like the Sussexes were given much choice in the matter: One source told royal author Omid Scobie, "Harry and Meghan have until early summer to vacate. Initially they were given just weeks, but now they have at least until after the coronation."

Whether or not they attend the coronation after all this drama remains to be seen...

Not only is Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's eviction from their U.K. home a fraught decision family-wise, but it also poses a significant threat to their security.

The thing is, Frogmore Cottage in Windsor provided a relatively safe home base for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, since it is located on a royal estate with all the police protection that entails.

But now that King Charles has advised the Sussexes they need to vacate the property following the release of Spare, the issue of their security when they visit the U.K. is becoming even more contentious than it has been since they were first denied the protection that typically comes with being royal.

"Frogmore is part of the Windsor Castle protected site, which is everything that the Metropolitan Police, in conjunction with Thames Valley Police, can offer," former Met royal protection officer Simon Morgan told Newsweek.

"So the Met look after the inside of it and Thames Valley look after the outside of it. You're getting everything that the police can offer in a protected site, armed police officers, technical equipment, walls, fences, everything that goes with creating a protected site and also the legislation as well."

For the royal couple, Morgan added, "It all comes down to the threat risk. That's the big question. As we know there's currently a court case involving the Sussexes with regard to their protection withdrawal."

Here, the expert is referring to Prince Harry's ongoing lawsuit against the British government, which he launched following its decision not to grant the Sussexes police protection while they are in the U.K.

The royal spouses bring their private security detail with them on their visits, but these officers aren't allowed to be armed, which they have argued poses an additional security threat to them and their young children.

Now that they can no longer rely on the additional protection of Frogmore, "It would fall to their private sector security team to identify the threat and risk," Morgan said.

"You would look at that, what is the threat risk with them coming to the U.K. and if you're comfortable mitigating and managing that risk, then where do they actually stay?

"Do they go into a hotel? Do they stay at a private residence, and how does the security team then secure the environment where they are going to be staying?

"To stay in a protected environment is always the preferred option because you're getting that complete support and everything else that goes with it. We see it at Buckingham Palace, we see it at Windsor and at Downing Street, you see everything that the protected environment gives you."

None of this sounds like great news, to be honest. I hope everyone involved figures out a way to make the situation work for them.

But for friends of the Sussexes and even for certain members of the Royal Family, this decision isn't just a hurtful move towards the U.S.-based couple, but also represents a further threat to their security when they travel to England, as reported by royal expert Omid Scobie in his latest Yahoo! column.

By virtue of its location on Windsor Castle grounds, Frogmore Cottage is covered by the Metropolitan Police's Royalty and Specialist Protection Unit, which adds an extra layer to the private security team the Sussexes bring with them on visits to the U.K.

Now, if they want to return to Harry's home country (notably for the coronation), they will need to find a way to bridge that security gap, despite the significant threats to their security they have consistently received over the past few years.

"If you'd seen the stuff that was written and you were receiving it, the kind of rhetoric that's online, if you don't know what I know, you would feel under threat all of the time," Neil Basu, the former head of counter-terrorism policing in England, said in November. "We had teams investigating it. People have been prosecuted for those threats."

By contrast, the disgraced Prince Andrew, who is now being offered Frogmore Cottage as a downgrade from his current home, has his own private security covered by the King himself, according to Scobie's sources.

Aside from the security threat, friends of the Sussexes find this decision by King Charles to be an unfair one, especially considering the couple paid the Crown Estate an amount of money that should have covered rent "for the foreseeable future."

"It all feels very final and like a cruel punishment," a friend of the Sussexes' told Scobie. "It’s like [the family] want to cut them out of the picture for good."

Apparently, at least two members of the Royal Family are equally "appalled" by the decision.

On top of all that, the house will be a difficult one for the Sussexes to leave, on an emotional level as well as a practical one.

"Harry and Meghan have until early summer to vacate," one source said. "Initially they were given just weeks, but now they have at least until after the coronation."

Another source said, "This is not just some random rental they keep for convenience. Every drawer is full, every closet is packed… It’s a real family home."

The Sussexes lived full-time in Frogmore for a few months while they were still working royals, and have retained the home as a base for their U.K. visits. Their permanent residence is currently in Montecito, California, where they live with their children Archie and Lili.

It sounds like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will need to privately rent a pied à terre the next time they visit the U.K.

According to a new report, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are being "evicted" from their English home of Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, with King Charles offering it to Prince Andrew instead.

Apparently, the King started to plan for this real estate reshuffle after Harry's controversial memoir Spare was released, which included a slew of shock revelations about the royals.

While commentators have previously claimed that Charles feels at least some amount of goodwill towards his youngest son, this latest move is unlikely to do much to facilitate a reconciliation.

"This eviction surely spells the end of Harry and Meghan’s time in the U.K.," a source told The Sun.

"Andrew is resisting the idea of moving into Frogmore Cottage after he was offered it last week.

"But it shows Harry and Meghan are powerless to stop the eviction."

Andrew—who was disgraced after his friendship with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein came to light and Andrew himself was accused of sexual assault by Epstein survivor Virginia Giuffre—reportedly wants to stay at Windsor's Royal Lodge, where he currently lives with his ex-wife.

Meanwhile, we still don't know whether the Sussexes will make the trip over to England to attend King Charles' coronation on May 6, and their motivation to do so might have been thwarted by the monarch's Frogmore decision.

The royal couple lived in the home for several months with their son Archie before they decided to step down from their royal duties and move to the U.S. After they left, they let Princess Eugenie (Andrew's daughter) and her family live in the home, but still used it as their residence whenever they were in the U.K.

The two are now based in Montecito, California, with Archie, and their daughter Lili. There, they live in a $14 million home, which royal author Tina Brown called a "humble cottage" compared to neighboring homes. Hmm.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been known to be pretty romantic, saccharine, and lovey-dovey (nothing wrong with that!)—but, for their first dance at their May 19, 2018, wedding, they opted for a fast-paced, upbeat, and fun song over a slow love song, as a new trailer for Harry & Meghan reveals. They chose Wilson Pickett’s 1966 hit “Land of 1000 Dances,” a song Meghan admitted she often forgets the name of: “I always get it wrong,” she said.

In the trailer—released yesterday—ample clips of the couple dancing to the song are shown, as Meghan recalled “it was so fun. Just spinning like a whirlwind.” Harry and Meghan’s private evening wedding reception was held at Frogmore House, where Meghan knocked it out of the park in a Stella McCartney gown and late mother-in-law Princess Diana’s aquamarine ring (which she wore again this week in New York City). Harry wore a tuxedo as the two took to the dance floor for their dance routine.

“I just really wanted the music to be fun,” Meghan said. “Even our first dance.” As Meghan sang lyrics from the song in the new trailer, she continued “that was our first dance. It was so fun.”

The then Prince Charles hosted the reception, attended by 200 of their closest friends and family, according to People. The private event followed their very public wedding earlier in the day at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

It certainly seemed to be a night to remember—Idris Elba was their DJ, George Clooney served drinks to guests, and Serena Williams played beer pong. Harry and Meghan also reportedly gave speeches thanking their guests for attending, infused with humor and trademarked sweetness.

“It was a huge dance party,” a source told People of the reception at the time. “Everyone was letting loose and had a blast. Just a fun night and not stuffy at all.” 

Her late Majesty’s absence since her death on September 8 is continually felt, including inside the walls of two royal residences that she lived in almost all of her adult life. Both Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle are currently empty—and look to stay that way—as no royals plan to move into either in the imminent future. (The Queen lived at Buckingham Palace during her reign until the beginning of the pandemic, when she relocated to Windsor Castle.)

Marie Claire reported yesterday that King Charles may never move into Buckingham Palace, but definitely won’t until renovations are complete in 2027. He lives close by the Palace at Clarence House, his longtime home, and, while he and wife Camilla, Queen Consort don’t reside there, he has worked from the Palace and hosted engagements there and will continue to.

Marie Claire also reported recently that the Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Kate, will eventually move into Windsor Castle but have no plans to do so in the near future, as they just moved their family to Adelaide Cottage on the Windsor estate in early September, and don’t wish to further rock the boat for their three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis after a tumultuous start to autumn.

Balmoral Castle in Scotland—where the late Queen passed away at age 96—is set to be opened up to tourists and will also have no royals in permanent residence, reports The Sun, meaning all three properties perhaps most closely associated with Her late Majesty will remain empty for the foreseeable future. According to the outlet, the Queen split her time between Buckingham Palace during the week and Windsor Castle on the weekends. She summered at Balmoral, and spent the winter holidays at Sandringham (which is also empty).

The Sun reports that “a vacant Windsor Castle opens the prospect of Prince Harry and Meghan [Markle] moving there, should they decide to return to the U.K. They were previously disappointed not to get the 1,000-year-old castle after they wed, receiving [the] much smaller Frogmore Cottage instead.” (Frogmore is also on the Windsor estate.)

A source told the publication “It was previously said that William and Kate would move into Windsor Castle, but there are no plans for them to leave Adelaide Cottage.”

Technically, the Sussexes could move to a new U.K. residence at their leisure, as they’ve paid back the £2.4 million they spent renovating Frogmore. Is it likely? Probably not. 

Prince William and Princess Kate are... not short on property right about now.

Before receiving their Prince and Princess of Wales titles, they had already claimed an apartment in Kensington Palace as their own, as well as a country home at Anmer Hall in Norfolk, plus a "secret" third home in Scotland, reportedly.

Then, just a few days before the Queen's sad passing, they moved into Adelaide Cottage in Windsor, which is a "modest" four-bedroom home—at least by the Royal Family's standards.

But soon after Prince Charles became King Charles III, there was talk of the new Wales family moving into Windsor Castle—which the monarch apparently thinks is more suited to their newly elevated status—though William and Kate are said to want to delay such a move to avoid adding even more upheaval to their children's lives.

Now, though, it appears they might have another option should they want it: Charles is reportedly thinking about giving his eldest son and his family the stunning Frogmore House on the Windsor Estate, according to The Sun. (FYI, this is not the Sussexes' Frogmore Cottage, though it was the setting for Harry and Meghan's wedding reception.

It's difficult to imagine that the Waleses would move anytime soon, but it's very possible they would prefer the stunning Frogmore House to Windsor Castle proper should that decision need to be made.

"Nothing is set in stone," however, a source told the Daily Mail (via The Sun).

"These are decisions the prince does not have to make yet."

Well, good luck to him, then!

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle didn't quite get the palatial home they had their eye on while they were working royals, writes Katie Nicholl in her book The New Royals.

Apparently, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were hoping for a "suite of apartments at Windsor Castle," but the late Queen had other ideas, and offered them Frogmore Cottage in Windsor Great Park instead—a home which they retain to this day, and which they have let Princess Eugenie and her family live in for a long time.

"The cottage was a big deal," the Queen's cousin Lady Elizabeth Anson told Nicholl (via the Daily Mail). "The Queen's entrance into the gardens is right next to their cottage. It is essentially her back yard, her solitude, and her privacy. She was giving that up in gifting Harry and Meghan Frogmore Cottage. We all thought it was very big of her. She said, 'I hope they'll respect it.'"

The Sussexes lived at Frogmore from April 2019 until their departure from the U.K. and from their roles as senior royals in March 2020.

After a short stint in Canada, the royal couple established themselves in Montecito, Southern California, where they still live now with their two children, Archie and Lilibet, and their three dogs, two beagles named Guy and Mamma Mia, and a labrador named Pula.

When they return to the U.K. for short visits (which are admittedly few and far between), the Sussexes still stay in Frogmore Cottage.

Speaking to The Cut recently, Markle spoke about returning to Frogmore and finding all her old possessions in drawers, including a journal which has some people worried she might use it to reveal royal secrets in the future.

Normally, brothers Prince William and Prince Harry are a literal ocean apart—William in the U.K., and Harry in the U.S. But, this week, William and Harry are a short walk from one another—William, wife Kate Middleton, and their three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis having just moved into Adelaide Cottage on the Queen’s Windsor estate, and Harry and Meghan staying, for the week anyway, at Frogmore Cottage, their home in Windsor.

While geographically they could be at one another’s front door in a moment’s time (according to The Daily Mail, the homes are just 380 feet apart), the chasm between the two couldn’t be wider, as multiple outlets report that William won’t see or speak to his younger brother until after the release of Harry’s tell-all memoir later this year, citing William’s inability to trust his brother to not repeat their private conversations.

“I think it’s likely that Catherine and William will try to avoid any contact with Harry and Meghan until they know the contents of Harry’s memoirs and their Netflix documentary,” royal biographer Angela Levin tells The Sun. “They have lost their chance of being trusted as the chance is they will use any conversation. It’s their own fault for vastly exaggerating and being rude.”

So, not only will William not see Harry this week, it looks like he won’t be speaking to Harry until the book is out—which is set to happen by the end of the year. And it’s not just William who is concerned about leaks—according to The Mirror, “William is not thought to be alone in having his suspicions roused by the memoir, with other members of The Firm previously said to be nervous about communicating with him [Harry] over what he might leak to the media.” Last December, a friend of Harry’s claimed that the book would “shake the monarchy to the core” and, according to The Mirror, will go into detail about Harry’s true feelings about the royals, as his book deal required him to include “personal details of personal and family arrangements.”

Harry and Meghan are visiting both the U.K. and Germany this week for engagements with charities they support. According to The Daily Mail, the Sussexes have asked private security firms to provide a “ring of steel” for their appearance in Manchester today, to which a palace insider responded “one would have thought if such concerns existed, the best place to be would be next to the family, but there you go.”

Harry and Meghan’s return to the U.K. comes on the heels of controversial comments Meghan made both on her new Spotify podcast, “Archetypes,” and in a cover story with The Cut, released last week. A source tells ET that the “royal family is disappointed by Meghan Markle’s latest comments in The Cut magazine and on her podcast. They are distressed that after stepping back from the royal family—claiming a need for privacy—she continues to publicize family matters in public,” adding there is a “loss of trust” there. 

The Sussexes are returning to the U.K. this week—their first time back across the pond since June’s Platinum Jubilee—and, while in Prince Harry’s home country, will stay at Frogmore Cottage, their home on the Queen’s Windsor estate. Coincidentally, Prince William and Kate Middleton just moved into their new home on the Queen’s Windsor estate, Adelaide Cottage, this weekend.

Yet, despite the two homes only being a few minutes’ drive from one another, according to multiple sources, the Cambridges and the Sussexes have no plans to meet up, and, according to royal expert Christopher Andersen (speaking to Us Weekly) they not only don’t have plans to see one another—but the Cambridges are “trying to avoid” the Sussexes, he says.

“It’s going to be interesting in the next few days when Harry and Meghan go to Europe, and they’re going to be playing royal hide and seek,” Andersen says.

Harry and Meghan Markle’s schedule is pretty jam-packed and includes visits to multiple countries: according to The Sun, the couple is due to arrive in the U.K. imminently, ahead of their visit to Manchester on Monday for the One Young World Summit. Then they’ll head off to Germany for the Invictus Games Dusseldorf 2023 One Year to Go event, before returning to the U.K. for the WellChild Awards on September 8.

According to Andersen, for the first leg of Harry and Meghan’s visit William and Kate will still be with the Queen at Balmoral, her summer home in Scotland. But by the end of their visit William and Kate will be back in town—their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis start school at Lambrook on September 8.

“Right now, the Cambridges have gone to Balmoral [Castle]…and [Prince] Charles and [Duchess] Camilla are there,” Andersen says. “They’re out of the way during the first part of the Sussexes trip to Britain, but on [September 8], the Sussexes return to Britain from Germany. They’re going to be, literally, a brief stroll [away from] each other on the grounds of Windsor because the Cambridges have to [return in time to get their] kids in school.”

The main point of contention between the couples at the moment seems to be Harry’s forthcoming memoir, with its contents largely if not completely unknown to members of the royal family.

“It’s going to have all the markings of an old-fashioned farce with these people trying to avoid each other,” Andersen says. “They don’t want to see each other because everybody’s worried about the [Duke of Sussex’s upcoming memoir]. Harry’s book is going to be loaded with, obviously, bombshells.”

Until more is known about what’s in the book, William and Kate seem keen to keep their distance, Andersen says.

“I would imagine almost anything is going to disturb them,” he says. “I don’t think they want to talk to them until they’ve seen it.”

Admittedly, the fact that the Cambridge family couldn't attend Lilibet's first birthday party this past Saturday was unfortunate timing. However, that really is all it was: unfortunate timing, according to one source at least.

While it's easy to read into the Cambridges shipping over to Wales on June 4 as a snub towards the near-estranged Sussexes—who had invited them to celebrate their daughter's birthday with them—that's apparently really not what happened.

"It's simply a coincidence they fell on the same day," a source told Entertainment Tonight. "There was no intended slight."

As a reminder, Lili celebrated turning one bang-smack in the middle of the Platinum Jubilee with a party at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor. On that day, though, Kate Middleton and Prince William (and as a sweet surprise, Prince George and Princess Charlotte) were scheduled to appear in Wales to represent the Royal Family there. The Queen, on the other hand, was free that day after dropping out of the Epsom Derby.

The Cambridges were also away on a ski trip last time Meghan Markle and Prince Harry made it over to the U.K. for a flying visit, but the Sussexes' visit seemed like a last-minute decision, while the Cambridges' diary is—I'm sure—full to the brim, and their vacations likely have to be scheduled ages in advance. So, sure, the timing was unfortunate that time, too, but it's not like they flee the country every time the Sussexes come over. I mean, come on, that would be a bit much.

With that said, it also doesn't sound like relations between Princes William and Harry were particularly smooth over the Jubilee weekend: The elder brother reportedly doesn't want to spend alone time with the younger one, and they were never seen interacting in public. Honestly, this is all just very sad. I hope they sort it out soon.

Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor celebrated her first birthday across the pond, joining Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on their trip to the U.K. for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. The Sussexes' youngest was all smiles in her b-day portrait, which was taken at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor over the weekend. And can we talk about that hair?!

Photographer Misan Harriman—who also happens to be a family friend of the Sussexes—captured the adorable photo, which was taken during Lili's birthday party. It was previously reported that the Queen was set to miss the Derby at Epsom Downs to celebrate her great-granddaughter’s birthday (and mark the first time the monarch would be meeting the little royal!), though she was not pictured in any of the photographs shared by Harriman. According to a spokesperson for the Sussexes, they were joined by family and friends for a a casual, intimate backyard picnic, a glimpse of which can be seen in a sweet series of photos Harriman shared to his own Instagram to commemorate the special day.

It was also revealed that baker Claire Ptak, who created Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Spring-themed wedding cake in 2018, made a special confection for Lilibet's party as well. 

“It was such a privilege to celebrate the 1st birthday of Lilibet with my family and hers! Joy and face painting all around ❤️🎂🎉,” Harriman wrote.

Lili and her brother Archie were both in the U.K. for Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee, though neither of the Sussex kids made public appearances during the events. Meghan and Harry, however, attended the Queen’s Service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul’s Cathedral on Saturday.

According to a spokesperson for the Sussexes, people across the world made donations to José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen in Lilibet’s honor, totaling over $100,000. 

So many celebrations! In addition to four days’ worth of festivities honoring the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, tomorrow at Frogmore Cottage the Sussexes will celebrate Lilibet Diana’s first birthday—and Her Majesty, Lili’s namesake, will likely be in attendance. (Lilibet is the familial nickname of the Queen.)

According to Tatler, the Queen is set to miss the Derby at Epsom Downs in favor of Lili’s party, as the outlet writes “The Queen, however, will reportedly instead attend a birthday party for Harry and Meghan’s daughter, Lilibet, who turns one on 4 June, at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor,” just half a mile from the Queen’s home at Windsor Castle.

According to Sussex biographer Omid Scobie, the Queen reportedly met her namesake face-to-face last night, following a private family lunch at Buckingham Palace after Trooping the Colour. (This is the first time Lili has traveled to her father’s home country of the U.K. since her birth in California last year.)

“I think people are expecting some sort of big birthday extravagant event, that we’re going to see photographs from,” he told BBC Breakfast, per The Mirror. “From what I’m told, we shouldn’t expect anything. Those moments with Lilibet are very much private between them and the Queen and, of course, we know how much she’s been looking forward to it. Of course, we know the Queen went back to Windsor Castle yesterday. The couple went back to Windsor as well, where they’re staying at Frogmore Cottage. So that would have been the first moment or the first chance for her to meet her namesake.”

While nothing is confirmed, all signs seem to point to yes for the Queen being present to celebrate her great-granddaughter. Speaking on yesterday’s episode of “Pod Save the Queen,” via The Daily Express, host Zoe Forsey said “Saturday is the horses, but we don’t think that she [the Queen] is going to go now because there is talk of Lilibet’s first birthday party.”

However, we do know for sure that, because of scheduling conflicts, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will miss out on Lili’s party, as they will be in Wales tomorrow as part of the ongoing Platinum Jubilee celebrations. 

Though the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations mark the first time that the Sussex and Cambridge families have been in England together in years—Duchess Kate and Prince William and their three children, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and their two children—the two families reportedly don't have plans to meet privately, according to Page Six. 

“At the moment, it does not look likely that Harry and Meghan and William and Kate will meet up separately during the Jubilee celebrations," a source told Page Six. "There is certainly nothing in the diary at the moment.” The same source said that William and Harry's relationship remains "frosty."

Harry and Meghan and their two young children, Archie and Lilibet, flew from California this week for four days of celebrations to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. Though the Queen restricted the group of working royals who appeared with her on the Buckingham Palace balcony to a small, senior group that did not include Harry and Meghan, the Sussexes were photographed watching the Trooping the Colour parade while animatedly talking to the rest of the royal family.

On Friday, Harry and Meghan attended the Service of Thanksgiving; William and Kate were also present, but the two couples weren't photographed together.

The last time Harry and William were photographed together was last July, when they united for the unveiling of a statue dedicated to their late mother, Princess Diana.

The Jubilee visit marks the first time Lilibet, who turns one on Saturday, has spent time with her father's side of the family in England. (Archie was born in the U.K., and moved to California with his parents after they sensationally left the senior royal family in January 2020.) Lilibet, who is named for her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth, is expected to meet her namesake on the trip; the Sussex family are staying in Frogmore Cottage, which is just half a mile away from Windsor Castle.

The rift between Harry and William in the aftermath of the younger brother's royal exit reportedly deepened when Harry told Oprah that his older brother and father were "trapped" in the institution. "I was trapped, but I didn't know I was trapped,” Harry told Oprah. “My father and my brother, they are trapped. They don't get to leave. And I have huge compassion for that." He also noted: "I love William to bits. We've been through hell together and we have a shared experience, but we are on different paths."

While we were busy worrying about Princess Eugenie eyeing the same Windsor property as the Cambridges, she was apparently making plans to move to Portugal part-time with her husband and son.

Express reports that Jack Brooksbank has gotten a new job in the European country, working for American entrepreneur Mike Meldman, a business partner of George Clooney's. Brooksbank will act as a brand ambassador of sorts for CostaTerra Golf & Ocean Club, a luxurious resort on the Portuguese coast.

Express understands that the couple will split their time between Portugal and the U.K., with a source saying, "Jack will spend some of the time in Portugal and some of the time here. Eugenie will want to be with him."

The couple and their son August have apparently been setting up home in Portugal for the past month, allowing for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to come stay in Frogmore Cottage (which is the Sussexes' British pied-à-terre, which they have let Eugenie and her family stay in since they've been in America).

While Eugenie and co. will return to the U.K. to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, they are apparently set to return to Portugal soon after the long weekend.

Eugenie has a regular-person job at art gallery Hauser & Wirth in London, and we don't yet know what arrangements she will make on that front.

They have previously been reported to want to find a more permanent home than Frogmore Cottage, which is currently leased by the Sussexes, and were apparently looking at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor—which the Cambridges were also looking at. So it remains to be seen what living arrangements all these royal cousins come up with for the long term.

Hiiii, not to freak you out or anything, but Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor is turning a whole year old on Saturday, June 4.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will mark their daughter's birthday during the long Jubilee weekend, which is very auspicious timing, I think you'll agree.

What is less auspicious timing, however, is that Prince William and Kate Middleton will sadly miss the celebrations, since they will be traveling to Cardiff that day as part of their Jubilee duties, the Daily Mail reports. (Since the Duke of Cambridge is likely to become the next Prince of Wales, he and the duchess are being regularly dispatched to the country in order to meet with local people, businesses and organizations.)

According to the Mail, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will celebrate their little girl at their Windsor pied-à-terre, Frogmore Cottage, the current home of Princess Eugenie and her family—who have "vacated" the premises for the Sussex visit, although it's unclear whether this move is temporary or not.

The party is super conveniently located for the Queen, who recently made Windsor Castle her permanent home. But the stars have to be aligned even further for the monarch to be able to attend her great-granddaughter's birthday: She is unfortunately "increasingly unlikely" to attend the Epsom Derby (known simply as "the Derby"), according to sources who spoke to The Sun. This is due in part to her ongoing "mobility issues," but also due to all three of her horses no longer being set to take part in Saturday's race. Princess Anne—a former Olympic equestrian—will reportedly stand in for her mom at the event.

If the Queen does end up going to chill with her baby namesake, it will be their first-ever in-person meeting. Lili was born in California, her parents' new home. While her big brother Archie was born in the U.K., he hasn't seen his British relatives since the Sussexes moved away.

As for the Cambridges, I'm sure they'll be able to find a way to poke their head in to meet the little girl at some point over the four-day weekend. Both the Cambridges and the Sussexes should normally be in attendance at Friday's Service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul's Cathedral, so they'll be able to catch up then. That said, only the Queen's older great-grandchildren will be there, so the family won't be able to see Archie and Lili on that occasion.

This time next week, we’ll be in the full swing of the Platinum Jubilee, celebrating the first British monarch to ever reign for 70 years.

It’ll also be another first for the Queen—her first time meeting her namesake Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, named after Her Majesty’s familial nickname. (Lili, as she is known, will turn a year old exactly one week from today, on June 4.)

And, according to reporting from Rebecca English at The Daily Mail, the Queen will welcome Prince Harry, Meghan, and their two children with open arms when they arrive in the U.K. A source told the outlet that Her Majesty wants the Jubilee to be “an occasion in which the country, including her own family, comes together” with no drama overshadowing the historic event.

The Daily Mail reports that the Sussexes will stay at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor and, though they will not be on the Buckingham Palace balcony for Trooping the Colour, Harry and Meghan will attend the national Service of Thanksgiving for the Queen at St. Paul’s Cathedral on Friday, June 3. The outlet reports “it is understood the Sussexes are likely to attend at least one other public engagement—although sources have strongly warned that the public should ‘not expect them at every event.’”

The Mirror reports that there has also been suggestion that the Sussexes might sit in the VIP section to watch Trooping the Colour, though they won’t be on the balcony with the working members of the royal family.

“They will also spend time with royal family members privately, introducing the Prince of Wales to Lilibet for the first time,” The Daily Mail reports. “He has not seen Archie, three, since he was a baby. It is unclear whether the Sussexes will spend time alone with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their three children. William is known to have been hit hardest by his brother’s perceived betrayal.”

The Queen wants to make the Jubilee less about herself and more about the monarchy as a whole, The Daily Mail reports.

“Her Majesty is typically very keen that the Platinum Jubilee be a celebration not of herself and her own longevity, but of the institution of the monarchy and the people that support and sustain it,” an insider told The Daily Mail. “It is also a chance for people to come together after a very difficult period for this country. She doesn’t want anything to overshadow it—and that includes any family issues.”

Royal expert Duncan Larcombe said it will be interesting to see the public’s mood toward Harry and Meghan at any public appearances they might make.

“Maybe the only chance we get to see a glimpse of both [Harry and Meghan]…we can expect to see massive crowds…thousands and thousands of people that you would describe as royalists, who love the pomp and ceremony,” Larcombe says, per The Mirror. “The reality is…Harry and Meghan are very divisive characters…it will be fascinating to see the reaction and mood of the public [towards them].”

The Jubilee is set to celebrate the Queen but is truly a pro-British affair: Britons are expected to spend £3 billion over the course of next weekend, and an estimated 16,000 street parties will be held across England, The Daily Mail reports. 

Both Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are really close friends with Harry's cousin Princess Eugenie, and will apparently stay in her house with Archie and Lili for the Queen's Jubilee.

When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex swapped the U.K. for the U.S., they let Eugenie, her husband Jack Brooksbank and their son August move into the house they were living in, Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.

This house is still technically the Sussexes' house, so between that and the couple's friendship with the younger York sister, Frogmore is the obvious choice for where to stay when they visit Britain. The Sun reports that the Sussexes are therefore expected to use it as their home base for the long weekend of celebrations in June.

Frogmore Cottage is also where Harry stayed for Prince Philip's funeral in April 2021.

Eugenie reportedly regards this house as a temporary home for her family, since the Sussexes could want to move back into it at some point in the future. That's why she apparently was thinking of moving to Adelaide Cottage, also in Windsor, but unfortunately that's the same house Prince William and Kate Middleton are reported to have their eye on for their main residence when they move in the summer (a move that is as yet unconfirmed by the powers that be, FYI).

Hopefully, if those rumors are true, they haven't caused too much of a rift between cousins. In fact, last year, a royal insider went as far as to say that Princess Eugenie may be the key to reuniting the Sussexes with their British relatives, though only time will tell if that was an accurate prediction.

All families have various disagreements... but for most of us, it's typically not over who gets to live in which of your grandmother the Queen's various houses.

But for the House of Windsor (literally), it sounds like there may be a dispute in the air over who gets to move into Adelaide Cottage, a royal property in Windsor.

It was reported earlier this week that the home is likely the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's first choice out of the possible options in Windsor, where they have apparently been thinking of relocating for several months.

As they reportedly plan to move in the summer, the Daily Mail has revealed that Prince William's cousin Princess Eugenie also had her eye on Adelaide.

Eugenie "had been trying to secure Adelaide Cottage for a while [ready] for when she moves out of Frogmore," a source told the Mail. "Before Andrew’s most recent scandal it was definitely a property he was [also] trying to secure for his daughter."

Obviously, none of this has been confirmed by any of the parties concerned, so it may be that they've already discussed this among themselves and come to an agreement. Hopefully, it won't cause any sort of drama among family members.

Eugenie has been living in Frogmore Cottage with husband Jack Brooksbank and son August, but the house is actually still Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's, who lived in the property for a few months when they were still in the U.K. For this reason, it was never meant to be a permanent home for Eugenie and her family, which is why she may have been considering Adelaide as an alternative.

For months, we've been hearing whispers that the Cambridge family is seriously considering moving to Windsor, Berkshire, to be close to the Queen—who has taken up permanent residence at Windsor Castle.

In recent weeks, there were rumors that the move was planned for this summer. And as we inch closer to the season in question, these rumors appear more and more founded.

In the latest news, The Sun reports that Prince William and Kate Middleton even have their hearts set on a first-choice home in the town, where they reportedly want to live with children George, 8, Charlotte, 7, and Louis, 4.

"Finding a way to make Adelaide Cottage work seems to be the best and only option," a royal insider told the publication. "There are issues with all the other houses, so Adelaide will be the favorite."

Adelaide Cottage is one of the more modest homes belonging to the Queen. Fans of The Crown will enjoy this juicy tidbit: Group Captain Peter Townsend, whom the young Princess Margaret wanted to marry, lived there for several years in the late '40s and early '50s. Frogmore House was another option for the Cambridges, but would apparently cost too much to turn into a functional home.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's current country escape—Anmer Hall—is too far north to commute back to London for work. The couple is said to love the countryside, which is one reason why they're eager to move to Windsor. There, they'll be close to both the Queen and the Middletons, who live in Bucklebury Manor, less than an hour's drive away.

Another reason for the move is the children's schooling. The duke and duchess are apparently squabbling over whether to send Prince George to boarding school or not, but many of the schools they've been considering are close to Windsor, meaning he wouldn't necessarily need to live away from home in order to attend.

We'll just have to see what happens as it happens.

There's a bit of a royal reshuffling going on right now.

After spending more and more time in Windsor Castle, rather than in Buckingham Palace, the Queen has announced that she is making the Berkshire house her primary and official residence.

And the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who have been dividing their time between Kensington Palace in London and Anmer Hall in Norfolk in recent years, are reportedly planning to join Her Majesty in Windsor this summer.

The Sun reports that they are considering private homes right now, rather than the royal-owned Fort Belvedere or Frogmore House. They also won't be taking up apartments in Windsor Castle itself, apparently.

The Cambridges are also looking at schools for their children, in the nearby counties of Buckinghamshire and Surrey, as well as in Berkshire.

The royal couple is rumored to favor Lambrook School in Ascot (Berkshire) for Prince George, though other sources claim they prefer Marlborough College (where Kate Middleton was once a student), which is a co-ed school and therefore would be suitable for both George and Charlotte. Please note these are all just rumors as it stands.

That said, there is some amount of substance to the claim that the Cambridges plan to relocate to Windsor. Back in November, there was already speculation that the move was on the cards.

"I think there are a number of reasons why they would want to make such a move, and absolutely proximity to the Queen is one of them," royal expert Jonathan Sacerdoti told Express at the time.

"She’s had a pretty tough year, including losing Prince Philip, and one doesn’t picture the Queen alone... She’s definitely going to be feeling a sense of solitude related to losing her husband, something that many people will be familiar with," Sacerdoti added. "If William and Kate move to be closer to her, that could certainly help in that respect, and indeed [to have] children there."

It was also said at the time that Windsor was more conveniently located for the countryside-loving Cambridges than Norfolk, which is a few hours away from London and makes commuting difficult.

There were more rumors that the royal couple would move to Berkshire in February, when it was also noted that the county was where Middleton grew up.

Princess Eugenie has subtly given fans a few rare glimpses into the private side of royal life, courtesy of pictures and videos she's shared on Instagram.

The 31-year-old royal and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, moved into Frogmore Cottage in November 2020 as they prepared for the birth of their first child. The move was a big signal to royal fans about just how close Eugenie has remained with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle following their royal exit and move to California, since Frogmore Cottage remains the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's official residence in the United Kingdom.

Members of the royal family are notoriously private when it comes to guarding things like the inside of their homes (which is fair, considering the massive amounts of attention they face on a daily basis), but Eugenie has shared a few small glimpses of the inside of Frogmore Cottage since she and Jack welcomed their son, August, in February 2021.

Most of the pictures Eugenie has shared from the property have been taken outside, highlighting the gorgeous gardens and grounds that she, Jack, and baby August enjoy strolling around:

On Father's Day, however, Eugenie shared a gallery of pictures of Jack and August, including a couple that offered a look inside Harry and Meghan's U.K. home.

The Living Room:

This picture of Jack and August napping is believed to have been taken in the couple's living room, which features neutral walls and a white sofa for a monochrome look, but with bohemian throw pillows for a little personal flair.

The Office:

According to the Mirror, this room, with beige walls and white doors, has been speculated to be an office where the couple were able to carry out virtual meetings during the pandemic.

 The Kitchen:

In June, Eugenie shared a video of August to her Instagram Story in honor of World Oceans Day and it showed a bit of the Frogmore Cottage kitchen, which seems to have white tiles and white painted cabinets and opens up from a room with hardwood floors.

The Queen is paying Prince Harry a visit, it seems.

The monarch was spotted driving to Frogmore Cottage—Harry's U.K. home—on Friday evening after his arrival back in the country ahead of the unveiling of a statue in honor of his late mother, Princess Diana, according to The Mirror. 

Harry is reportedly in quarantine for the time being, amid ongoing restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic.

"This evening, the Queen, 95, was seen driving herself towards Frogmore Cottage, where Harry is staying while in the UK," The Mirror report explained. "It is not known if the Queen and Harry actually saw one another in person, as the prince must self-isolate for five days due to Covid travel restrictions."

Harry is back home in the U.K. in preparation for the unveiling of a statue in honor of Princess Diana at Kensington Palace in London. The statue is set to be unveiled next Thursday, on July 1—the day that would have marked Diana's 60th birthday. Harry made the trip back to the U.K. for the memorial event alone. His wife, Meghan Markle, and the couple's two children, Archie and Lilibet, stayed behind at the couple's come in California.

While Prince Harry's current stay in the U.K. is no doubt a somber one, as he awaits the funeral of grandfather Prince Philip on Saturday, it has offered one happy moment: meeting his cousin Princess Eugenie's new baby, August Philip, who was born on February 9.

Prince Harry is staying at Frogmore Cottage, the U.K. home he shares with Meghan Markle, which the Sussexes are currently lending to Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank. (Meghan, who is pregnant, has remained in the U.S. after her doctor advised her not to travel.) And according to Us Weekly, Harry has now been introduced to baby August. It's fair to assume it was a big moment for Harry, since Eugenie is one of the royals he's closest with.

Last year, a royal source told Harper's Bazaar royal editor Omid Scobie that Meghan and Harry were thrilled that Eugenie and Brooksbank would be moving into Frogmore Cottage. "[The Sussexes] are delighted to be able to open up their home to Princess Eugenie and Jack as they start their own family," the insider said.

Harry is following U.K. coronavirus protocols after arriving from California on Sunday, which require travelers to the U.K. to quarantine and take regular COVID-19 tests. Although people arriving in the U.K. are typically required to spend 10 days in quarantine, exemptions are made on "compassionate grounds" for occasions such as funerals, enabling Harry to attend Philip's funeral six days after his arrival. It's also possible he'll take a private COVID-19 test while will allow him to end his quarantine early if he tests negative, under the government's "Test to Release" scheme.

He was authentically himself, with a seriously sharp wit, and could hold the attention of any room due to his charm—and also because you never knew what he might say next," Harry said.

"He will be remembered as the longest reigning consort to the Monarch, a decorated serviceman, a Prince and a Duke. But to me, like many of you who have lost a loved one or grandparent over the pain of this past year, he was my grandpa: master of the barbecue, legend of banter, and cheeky right 'til the end."

"He has been a rock for Her Majesty The Queen with unparalleled devotion, by her side for 73 years of marriage, and while I could go on, I know that right now he would say to all of us, beer in hand, 'Oh do get on with it!'" Harry continued. "So, on that note, Grandpa, thank you for your service, your dedication to Granny, and for always being yourself. You will be sorely missed, but always remembered—by the nation and the world. Meghan, Archie, and I (as well as your future great-granddaughter) will always hold a special place for you in our hearts."

Update, 4/9: Prince Philip has passed away at 99. "It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband," the palace said in a statement.

Original post: For 71 years, Prince Philip has been by Queen Elizabeth's side—and it seems almost impossible to think of a day when he might not be. In 2017, Philip made the decision to retire from his royal duties, which included ending his public appearances. Philip is the longest-reigning consort in British history, having accomplished 22,219 solo engagements since Elizabeth became Queen in 1953.

Now, with both the Queen and Prince Philip in their 90s, there are specific plans in place for their passing. Should either of their deaths come anytime soon, Buckingham Palace is prepared with two very different strict protocols. Last year, The Guardian revealed the plan in place for when the Queen dies, known as "London Bridge is Down." But what's the protocol for when Philip passes?

How the public will find out

When the sad day comes, it's expected that the BBC will be the first media outlet given the news of the prince's death. If he passes in his sleep, the announcement will likely be made at 8 a.m. the following morning.

What the funeral will be like

Prince Philip has already requested that people not make a "fuss" over his funeral and said it isn't necessary for his body to be lying-in-state at Westminster Hall—unusual considering the Palace of Westminster is always on a six-hour notice to prepare the hall for an event like this.

Philip is, of course, entitled to a large funeral as the Queen's consort. However, according to Parliamentary documents, there is no "official process" for "deciding when a state funeral should be held for a person other than the Sovereign."

Philip's body would not be open for public viewing, and the funeral would likely only include his family, friends, and heads of state from Commonwealth countries.

Where he will be buried

Upon his death, Prince Philip will be buried in Frogmore Gardens on the grounds of the Windsor Castle. The secluded 35-acres of garden are a royal family hidden gem. According to The Telegraph, "It’s where the Queen walks her corgis." Prince Philip even installed the dining room from the royal yacht, Britannia, at Frogmore House.

Since Frogmore is off-limits to the public, it's been a place for Prince Andrew's and Prince Edward's kids to play, and it's where George VI and the Queen Mother spent their honeymoon in 1923. Queen Victoria built a shrine to her husband, Prince Albert here, and she was buried next to him in a mausoleum.

Most other British royal family members have been buried in Westminster Abbey and St. George's Chapel, but it's likely Philip selected Frogmore Gardens because of its significance to his family.

How long the Queen has to mourn

If the Queen survives Philip, it is believed she will be expected to enter an eight-day period of grief, in which she will forgo her duties during that time. This means all state affairs and laws needing Royal Assent (a.k.a. the Queen's approval) will be put on hold.

Giving Assent is one of the Reserve powers of the reigning monarch—he or she has the right to refuse a Parliament bill. However, it's unlikely that any monarch would veto a bill, as it hasn't been done since Anne, Queen of Great Britain refused the Scottish Militia Bill in 1707. Because of this, there are no set rules for who could give Assent in place of the Queen if she were in a period of mourning during an emergency.

When the Queen will return to her public duties

It's believed that after the Queen's eight work-free days, she'll continue her duties behind closed doors. Britains would then enter an official Royal Mourning period for 30 days, after which it's expected that the Queen would return to her public appearances and responsibilities.

Back when Queen Victoria was the reigning monarch, her husband, Prince Albert, died suddenly. In her time of mourning, she retreated to Balmoral Castle, where she spent the next 40 years in grief-stricken pain. Her permanent mourning almost led to the downfall of the British monarchy.

What will happen to the monarchy

Nothing will actually change when it comes to who is line for the throne—the order still remains, Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, and finally, Prince Harry. Royal family members' titles and positions will remain the same so long as Queen Elizabeth is alive and wearing the crown.

During the Sussexes' interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan Markle revealed she became incredibly isolated after joining the royal family, prevented by "The Firm" from meeting with friends or even leaving the house. Writing for Harper's Bazaar, royal editor Omid Scobie gave another startling example of Meghan's enforced isolation, revealing that neither she nor her mother, Doria Ragland, were permitted even to go out for a coffee.

"Lunch with friends could have momentarily lifted her spirits, but social outings were dismissed by royal family members and aides who said it would be better to lie low. Her image was 'everywhere right now,' they told her," Scobie wrote. "Her isolated existence stood out in particular to her worried mother, Doria Ragland, who during a summer 2019 visit to Frogmore Cottage was surprised to discover that neither she nor her daughter was able to go out into Windsor town to pick up coffees."

"'You’re stuck in here,' Doria told Meghan at the time," Scobie continued.

Meghan described her lonely existence as a royal to Winfrey, as well as sharing the racism she experienced both from the royals and the media and the lack of support she received from the palace. The Duchess of Sussex said she was prohibited from going to lunch with friends because the royals felt she was receiving too much media coverage—despite barely being able to leave the house.

"I am everywhere but I am nowhere," Meghan said. Sharing the palace's fixation on optics, she added, "Has anyone talked about how it feels? Because right now I could not feel lonelier."
