For some reason, Lady Gaga isn't one of the faces I expected to see at the New York City premiere of The Devil Wears Prada 2, but that didn't make her appearance (or the stunning ponytail she wore) any less of a pleasure to witness.

The Abracadabra singer teamed up with Doechii to record a single for the movie's soundtrack, though it's also been confirmed by director David Frankel that she'll be making a cameo in the sequel as well. With that in mind, it's easy to see why she turned up to the official premiere in New York City this week looking like the star of the show. For the premiere, Gaga wore a strapless, black Saint Laurent gown with a mermaid silhouette and a V-shaped bodice. In my opinion, her glam was even more stunning than the dress.

The singer wore soft complexion makeup, lengthening mascara, a hint of warm eyeshadow, and nude lipstick, and she pulled her platinum blonde hair back into a sleek, low Barbie ponytail complete with a very tight curl.

Earlier this year, MC reported that messy updos were becoming staples at red carpet events, but the sleek ponytail, in all forms, has been making a comeback since last year. During Paris Fashion Week, for example, Oprah Winfrey attended the Chloé runway show wearing a chic bubble ponytail, while Tracee Ellis Ross was spotted in the city days later wearing a triple pony. It's slowly becoming one of the hottest low-maintenance hairstyles of the spring.

"The power of the ponytail is that it can give structural angles as well as a snatch," celebrity hairstylist Adir Abergel previously told MC. "The positioning, whether high, low, or mid, can have a transformative effect on the silhouette of not just the face but the entire body and the fashion being worn."

Technically, after-party attire wasn't required at NYC's The Devil Wears Prada 2 premiere on April 20. But being a fashion film, there was an unspoken expectation for Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, and Emily Blunt to change looks. Behind-the-scenes snaps from inside Lincoln Hall captured Hathaway in a second Louis Vuitton dress. Stylist Micaela Erlanger even took the previously-seen, monogrammed chainlink belt for another spin. Then, Streep ditched her paparazzi-blocking sunglasses for a pair Miranda Priestly would stow on her Runway desk.

As soon as the sequel's credits rolled, Blunt and husband John Krasinski snuck out the back—but not before photographers captured her post-screening outfit swap. Balmain loaned stylist Jessica Paster Look 34 from the Fall 2026 collection: a shoulder-padded bodysuit layered beneath a semi-sheer skirt topped with gold velour flowers. The maxi's hip-high slit revealed polka-dot tights, another style Paster acquired from new creative director Antonin Tron.

Then, stylists Chloe and Chenelle Delgadillo switched her into something more comfortable: a black halter-neck dress, complete with a semi-sheer bodice and a slitted skirt. The Grammy winner exchanged one pair of platform pumps for another. This time, Thom Solo's Black Mesh Opera stilettos made the cut.

My goal this spring is to be a fabulous little bug. By that I mean, I want to look as elegant as Jackie Kennedy did, as unbothered and impossibly cool as Rihanna does, in big, bug-eye sunglasses.

I’m not alone in liking eyewear that evokes insects this season. From the googly-eyed guests sitting front row at fashion month to celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence and Pamela Anderson going incognito in giant, alien-like lenses, oversized sunnies are very much in favor with fashion people right now. Balenciaga sent massive butterfly-wing-shaped shades down its Spring 2026 runway, which RiRi and Rosalia were quick to wear out into the real world. Saint Laurent and Khaite also showed thick, bubble-frame sunglasses that were quick hits with editors watching from the sidelines, always on the lookout for effective ways to hide their dark circles.

Fashion month aside, I see women everywhere in New York City wearing sunnies the size of saucers, including indoors and hours after sunset, at J.Crew press events (last Tuesday) and the back corner of cozy wine bars (last Friday). And I’m only human. Which is to say, of course, I’m capable of being influenced and now also want creepy-crawler, 60mm frames.

A bug-eye sunglasses trend is a sharp left-turn from the slim, ‘90s-inspired rectangular frames that have been the defining shape of the 2020s thus far. But the boom of oversized eyewear does align with the fashion industry’s slow creep away from quiet luxury. In recent seasons, the stock of expressive personal style has shot way up. The goal now is to show that you have something individual to say, rather than following the lead of others. Shades that camouflage a third of your face and morph your features into a cartoon are a strong statement—an undeniably glamorous one at that.

I think of the immortal muse for ladylike poise, Jackie Kennedy Onassis. Ultra-round sunglasses were such a strong signature of the former first lady’s style that eyewear atelier Maison Bonnet designed a bespoke pair for her in 1960, and Ray-Ban named its best-selling oversized shades “Jackie Ohh”. I’d also be remiss not to mention the paparazzi-blockers of the early aughts—Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen dodging camera flashes under the cloak of circular shades.

They say the less skin an outfit shows, the sexier it becomes. I’ll add that it’s the same effect on your face with eyewear. Oversized shades serve as privacy protectors and, as a result, cultivate an aura of intrigue and mystery. You become inscrutable and automatically cool in big, bug-eye sunnies, even if you’re only wearing them to hide a hangover or eyebrows overdue for a plucking. As Anna Wintour said about her trademark large, dark frames, they’re “a prop” that helps her “be seen and not be seen.”

Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy minimalists might find the sunglass shape garish and outside of their comfort zone of clean lines and subtlety. Some may still only want to wear slimmer shapes, no matter how big the bug-eye sunglasses trend gets.

I just ask them to consider this gentle suggestion; if you, like me, have felt your style lacking substance and intrigue lately, sunnies that are more substantial could be the fix. If not from me, take it from Jackie, Rihanna, the Olsen twins, and all the other bug-eyed icons who sit in fashion’s hall of fame.

Every detail of Bad Bunny's Super Bowl 2026 halftime show was a love letter to Puerto Rico and the Latin diaspora, from the colorful sets and choreography to the finishing touches on surprise guest Lady Gaga's Luar gown.

(Brooklyn-raised Luar designer Raul Lopez hails from the Dominican Republic.) The drop-waist bodice and pleated tiered skirt came drenched in cool blue: one of 2026's defining color trends on runways from Tibi to Victoria Beckham and Carolina Herrera, as well as a nod to the azul celeste of the original Puerto Rican flag.

The bright red flower pinned just beneath Gaga's cascading blonde waves also carried a poignant message. She wore a single Flor de Maga, a heart-shaped flower that only grows in Puerto Rico, crafted by accessories designer Piers Atkinson. Defined by its five curved red petals and towering yellow pistil, it was named the island's official flower in 2019. The Flor de Maga's singular location and vibrant petals have come to represent Puerto Rico's resilience—a fitting nod to Bad Bunny's heritage. Lady Gaga further emphasized the flower with a matching red manicure, red ankle-strap heels, and 11.8 carat diamond earrings from Chopard's Haute Joaillerie Collection.

Lady Gaga last dropped into a Super Bowl halftime show in 2017, as the headlining act. That time, she chose a range of bedazzled Versace bodysuits and towering, knee-high boots consistent with her Mother Monster styling.

For the 2026 show, where "Together, We Are America" was the final message, Gaga rightfully set aside her usual aesthetics for a chance to further highlight headliner Bad Bunny's culture.

We know several names presenting at this Sunday's awards show—and they're big ones. The Recording Academy began announcing presenters about a week before the ceremony, with fan-favorite stars Harry Styles and Doechii as the first two set to take the stage. Other stars confirmed to present include Carole King, Chappell Roan, Charli xcx, Jeff Goldblum, KAROL G, Lainey Wilson, Marcello Hernández, Nikki Glaser, Q-Tip, Queen Latifah, and Teyana Taylor.

Also, the Academy has been teasing an "additional surprise presenter." One popular guess floating around: Beyoncé could show up to present Album of the Year, the year after her own win. We'll have to wait and see.

She wore an 1800s-inspired confection covered in black ruffles. The plumed gown—a Marc Jacobs Fall 2025 creation—was made all the more dramatic by a matching rose-topped headpiece, which sat atop her blunt bangs. The blood-red floral blooms are likewise the centerpiece of her tour wardrobe, all styled by Hunter Clem.

Lady Gaga holds a grand total of 12 Moon Person nominations this evening. One season might signal a playful, flash-in-the-pan moment. But a second, back-to-back showing? That confirms the trend isn’t just dipping a toe in—it’s got a firm foothold.

Street-style stars also help cement the peep-toe’s staying power. Katie Holmes has been spotted wearing open-toed heels to A-list events, Daisy Edgar-Jones brings Tory Burch’s flirtatious versions as plus-ones to parties, and Lady Gaga, ever the maximalist, leans into open-toed thigh-high boots for live show tapings.

And in addition to freeing your toes for the world to see, the peep-toe revival makes something else clear: in a trend cycle that moves at warp speed, the most unexpected styles often have the most lasting impact. In a candid interview, Lady Gaga discussed everything from her career to her love life and her mental health. Speaking to The New York Times, Gaga shared, "I had psychosis. I was not deeply in touch with reality for a while. It took me out of life in a big way, and after a lot of years of hard work I got myself back."

The "Die With a Smile" singer continued, "It was a hard time, and it was actually really special when I met my partner because when I met Michael [Polansky], I was in a much better place, but I remember him saying to me, pretty early on, 'I know you could be a lot happier than you are.'"

Gaga shared that it was "really hard" to hear fiancé Michael Polansky express that the singer might be unhappy. "I wanted him to think I was like this happy, totally together person," she explained. "But it's something that I have found increasingly harder to talk about."

The A Star Is Born actress said of her diagnosis, "I hate feeling defined by it. It felt like something I felt ashamed of. But I don't think that we should feel ashamed if we go through times like that. I mostly just wish to say, it can get better. It did for me, and I'm grateful for that."

The singer explained that, in order to feel better, she "had to figure out a way to integrate [herself] fully with [her] stage persona," which included inhabiting "Lady Gaga's boss energy." According to Gaga, the dualities of being a pop icon and a normal person became difficult to hold at once, which is why she had to work at loving both.

"I'd like to think that I'm a kind person, but there's a ferociousness and a hardness and an intensity that I have onstage as a performer," Gaga told the outlet. "So I had to learn how to hold those two things and have them not be at war with each other." She continued, "I've learned to not pour gasoline on it. I used to like more chaos, just living life on the edge constantly. I'm now proud to be much more boring."

For balance, Gaga layered her pocketed statement piece with a simple pleated mini skirt. Her accessories, however, doubled down on maximalism mayhem. Perilously trendy is the only way to describe her open-toed thigh-high boots, which combined a slouchy black leather leg with a wedge heel and a strappy sandal toe box.

In her hand, the "Abracadabra" singer carried a structured black shoulder bag with silver hardware and a studded leather strap that tapped into the belt buckle trend. An alienesque pair of black Balenciaga Razor-Cat sunglasses and a sharp French girl bob haircut completed her all-black ensemble.

Honestly, I never expected to see one of Burch's preppy designs pop up in Gaga's wardrobe for this album cycle. But I suppose her latest look is a reminder that personal style isn't about staking your identity on certain brands or pieces—that would be so dull and limiting. It's about expressing a point of view through the way you wear those clothes together.

As we leave the dark, freezing cold times of winter behind us (finally), it's understandable that we're all feeling a bit scissor-happy. In the last week alone, Mindy Kaling has resurrected a lob and Miley Cyrus made an Oscars After-Party statement with a set of baby bangs. But perhaps my favorite hair transformation comes by way of Lady Gaga, who has officially said goodbye to her jellyfish haircut—marked by shorter front pieces contrasting longer length—in favor of a French-Girl bob with micro bangs to boot.

The singer, who just released her new album Mayhem, seemingly rang in her next musical era with a fresh chop on March 6. Her fresh, noticeably shorter look just so happens to capture one of 2025's biggest hair trends.

"A trend that I’m a big fan of right now is a chin-length bob with bangs, specifically with dark or bleach blonde hair," celebrity hairstylist Laura Polko previously told Marie Claire. Flipping the ends of the hair inward, which can be achieved with any kind of blow dryer brush or flat iron, gives the hairstyle a low-key Parisian feel.

If you're wondering if you can pull off this French-girl hairstyle a lá Gaga, Polko encourages you to consider your face shape. Highly angular jawlines and a chin-length bob with bangs are always flattering, but interestingly enough, she urges clients to consider how they feel about their eyes and nose. "If you prefer your eyes over your nose, I would not recommend doing bangs. If you prefer your nose to your eyes, then I think bangs are great for you and something fun to add to any look," she explained.

It’s likely that she’s starting to prepare for her performance at Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary special event this weekend. Still, if you’re like me, you’re locked into the singer’s newly bleached brows and grunge haircut.

Clad in black from head to toe, Lady Gaga wore a high-neck, long-sleeved dress with lace-up booties and sunglasses. Her jet-black hair followed the same color scheme, and the contrast against her nearly-invisible brows felt worthy of gracing the runways of New York Fashion Week. Lady Gaga is ready to face the music. The singer and actress has been doing more on the latter side of her resume the past few years, but with her new album and upcoming Coachella performance, it looks like the Mother Monster we all know and love is back in full form.

"One of the things I’ve probably been judged for in my career was not sticking to one thing," Gaga explained in a new interview with the LA Times. "But not sticking to one thing is my life force."

Gearing up for the release of her anticipated new album—which fans have dubbed LG7 in lieu of an actual title—the singer is out on the publicity trail, letting us know what sort of quintessentially Gagasian magic is in store for us.

For her part in teasing what's to come, Gaga explained that her new record, "is full of my love of music — so many different genres, so many different styles, so many different dreams. It leaps around genre in a way that’s almost corrupt."

But, she added, "it ends with love," referencing her Grammy-nominated "Die With a Smile" duet with Bruno Mars, which she confirmed will be on the new album. "That’s the answer to all the chaos in my life, is that I find peace with love."

The singer also teased her highly anticipated return to the Coachella stage, highlighting how different her show will be from the last time she was singing at the desert festival back in 2017 (where, you may or may not recall, she stepped in at the last minute to cover for a pregnant Beyoncé).

"I only had two weeks [to prepare for the show]," she offered, explaining why her show was a bit more paired down than one might expect from the typically outrageous (in a good way) performer. "And so to design a stage, to have it made, all of those things—I didn’t have the time to totally do what I really wanted to do."

Thankfully, it seems her show this year will come with exactly the amount of fashion and fanfare we've come to love and expect from the charismatic chameleon.

"I love music. I love performing. I love music fans. And I was so excited to film pieces of our movie there. So I did it, and I loved it," she said, referencing the bits of A Star is Born they filmed on location at the festival.

But it seems as though she's hungry for more and ready to give it to us, as she added: "You know when you have a vision in your mind of how you want to do something? It’s time to make it happen."

Lady Gaga would marry Michael Polansky anywhere—and in fact, the two are considering it.

The star appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! this week to talk about her new role in Joker: Folie à Deux, and talk turned to the star's plans for her impending wedding.

"I don't know what we're gonna do," Gaga explained. "We're not exactly sure yet, but..."

She continued, "We actually talk about just going to a courthouse just the two of us and ordering Chinese food. But knowing me, also, like, it could become like a circus with unicorns."

Frankly, I think either of these options would be fantastic, and very true to Gaga.

Little Monsters everywhere will be thrilled to hear that Gaga could not be happier in her relationship with Polansky.

Speaking to People earlier this week, the "Born This Way" singer absolutely gushed about her businessman fiancé, telling the publication, "I just love my fiancé so much. He's my best friend. He's my partner, and I just feel like when you are with your best friend, everything changes."

Okay, well I'm sobbing now, but that's fine.

The superstar first revealed to the world that she and her beau were engaged during the Paris Olympics, when she introduce Polansky to then-French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal as "my fiancé"—as seen in footage shared by Attal on TikTok.

Jeweler Laura Taylor of Lorel Diamonds previously told Marie Claire about the bauble, "Michael’s choice of engagement ring is an eye-catching yet classic design, perfectly matching Lady Gaga’s unique style."

Taylor added, "I would estimate the ring to be worth upwards of £900,000 ($1.15m), possibly even £1 million ($1.3m), given the quality and size of the diamond."

Lady Gaga is most definitely besotted with her fiancé Michael Polansky. While promoting her new movie, Joker: Folie à Deux, at its premiere in Los Angeles, Gaga opened up about how falling in love with Polansky changed "everything" for her.

While speaking to People, Gaga discussed Polansky's role as a co-executive producer on her new album, Harlequin, which is a companion album to the Joker sequel.

"It's just the first time that we decided to fully just go into it and do it," Gaga said of her collaboration with Polansky. "It just felt right."

She continued, "We were both so excited ... We were all warmed up and ready to go."

The "Die With a Smile" singer also made her feelings for Polansky clear, telling People, "I just love my fiancé so much ... He's my best friend. He's my partner, and I just feel like when you are with your best friend, everything changes."

Earlier this year, Gaga discussed her romance with Polansky during a Vogue interview, revealing that her mom, Cynthia Germanotta, was responsible for bringing the pair together.

Gaga's mom runs the singer's Born This Way Foundation, which is how she first met Polansky in 2019. The Oscar winner explained, "My mom met him and she said to me, 'I think I just met your husband,' and I said, 'I'm not ready to meet my husband!'"

Gaga continued, "I could never have imagined that my mom ... found the most perfect person for me?"

Days later, Gaga made yet another appearance for the film's Los Angeles premiere. Her fiery red hair and ugly-pretty brows were both in attendance, but this time, her 'do was parted to the side. She wore a black column dress by Celine with a tiered satin cape detail that added an appropriate level of histrionics.

Further combining elegance with eccentrics, the actor wore a glimmering statement necklace covered in hot pink jewels and diamond-encrusted vines. Her black enamel earrings added to the effect, all thanks to the styling duo Sandra Amador and Tom Eerebout.

The most important accessory of all was Lady Gaga's choice of towering footwear. She wore the platform, pleaser-inspired pumps she made famous—this time, in high-shine patent leather. In totality, the look was a flawless hybrid of elegance and drama.

Now, I'm not saying celebrities (or anyone for that matter) aren't allowed to change their style. But the blonde hair/mermaid dress aesthetic just didn't feel authentically Gaga.

Her new look, however, brings together the flamboyant style she's famous for and the vintage glamour she loves. It feels like a natural next step in her fashion evolution and a new era of Lady Gaga.

Forget method dressing on the red carpet. Lady Gaga just invented a step-and-repeat category all her own at the London premiere of Joker: Folie à Deux: method makeup.

Less than 24 hours after announcing a concept album based off her character, DC Comics villainess Harley Quinn, Lady Gaga arrived at the Sept. 25 Joker premiere channeling her onscreen alter-ego from head to toe. The references started with her plunging red Celine gown and Tiffany & Co. diamonds—allusions to Harley Quinn's signature color—styled by Sandra Amador and Tom Eerebout. Where other celebrities would have let the resemblance end there, Gaga took things a bottle of hair dye and few swipes of turquoise eyeshadow further.

Makeup artist Sarah Tanno assembled a face beat that had Gaga looking like she could perform at an haute couture circus (or just a reprise of her famous MTV VMAs "Paparazzi" performance). In a reference to the rain- and tear-streaked makeup Gaga can be seen wearing throughout Joker's gritty trailer, she contrasted bright, matte turquoise eyeshadow with a cat-eye sharp enough to kill a man. Underneath her right eye, Tanno intentionally smudged her eyeliner across her lower lid—and finished it with a crystal-studded teardrop.

The usually-blonde performer also committed to a hair change for the red carpet. Hairstylist and wig artist Frederic Aspiras gave Gaga a blunt bob with fringe that dusted the top of her newly-bleached eyebrows. Said bob was dyed a deep, burgundy red with dark brunette layers beneath it—like Harley-slash-Gaga had dumped a bottle of wine on her head. (That's very much in line with Harley Quinn's antics, for what it's worth.)

Gaga is the latest celebrity to stay in character for months after the director calls "Cut!" Zendaya had her tennis ball chartreuses and Wimbledon whites to promote Challengers; while Margot Robbie had a dream house full of archival pink dresses to channel Barbie. Even Daisy Edgar-Jones tipped her ten-gallon hat to Twisters with windswept chiffon dresses. But Lady Gaga's method makeup is the biggest commitment I've seen yet to taking a character from the screen to the red carpet—and a major swerve from the hats, LBDs, and classic trousers she'd previously worn to promote Joker. At this point in the tour, no one expected Lady Gaga to make such a big Harley Quinn reference; so maybe the joke was on us.

There's no denying that Lady Gaga is a girl's girl.

In a recent interview with Vogue and ahead of the release of the singer and actress' latest movie, Joker: Folie à Deux, the superstar listed off the artists she is currently stanning, including arguably the most influential pop star on the planet: Taylor Swift.

When the interview touched on Gaga's "recent fanaticism," the publication writes that the star immediately rattled "off a list," which included Charli XCX, Chapell Roan, and Billie Eilish.

I've learned a lot about my body and style throughout my almost 29 years on this planet. High-waisted is the best pant rise for my pear-leaning-hourglass figure, and black is a flattering color. One time, I heard a guy working at an expensive Lower East Side menswear boutique tell his coworker that "wearing color isn't interesting," and for whatever reason, that stuck with me. I don't agree with him, but what an interesting hill to die on.

These learnings have led me to wear the same thing almost every day: a slim-fit black tee tucked into high-waisted black slacks. One might call it my "uniform" or a tried-and-true "outfit recipe." I call it "stagehand chic." They're my comfort clothes, not because they're particularly comfortable, but because I don't have to form any thoughts or opinions before putting them on. I can confidently wear my monochrome black ensemble, knowing it won't attract any unwanted attention, or any attention at all, for that matter. Seeing Lady Gaga wear my signature rags at today's Joker: Folie a Deux photocall gave me the rare opportunity to perceive myself from an onlooker's point of view. We are of similar height: she's 5-foot-1, and I'm about 5-foot-3-and-a-half. She has a more athletic build, but our shapes impart a comparable effect in the tee-shirt-cinched-waist-loose-pants silhouette. "Not bad," I thought.

The singer, actress, and mogul has been keeping with the black-on-black theme all week. Last night, on the Joker: Folie à Deux premiere red carpet, she wore a lacy, horned headpiece and a black ballgown, featuring a drop-waist and a larger-than-life skirt that curved like a ribbon. On Wednesday, September 4, while walking the Joker: Folie à Deux red carpet during the 81st Venice International Film Festival at Sala Grande in Venice, Italy, the pair walked hand-in-hand and, somewhat surprisingly, for the very first time on such a public stage.

To the surprise of no one who has followed Gaga's electric career, the actress—who stars alongside Joaquin Phoenix in the highly-anticipated Joker sequel—dressed for the occasion and in a way only Lady Gaga can.

According to Check The Tag, the pop star wore (what one can imagine to be) a Harley Quinn-approved, all-black Christian Dior Haute Couture gown, which Gaga elevated with a truly show-stopping Philip Treacy headpiece.

In addition, Lady Gaga wore Tiffany & Co. jewelry, including a jaw-dropping diamond necklace that accentuated the gown's plunging neckline.

Lady Gaga and her beau Polansky first confirmed their romance on New Year's Eve in 2019, and a month later were spotted kissing on a balcony. At the time, a source told E! News that Gaga had "been dating the same guy for over a month."

Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars have been hinting at a possible collaboration for quite some time, and fans have been eagerly awaiting more clues. Now, Lady Gaga has all but confirmed she's recorded a duet with the singer. In a new video posted on X, the singer plays the piano while wearing a T-shirt with Mars' face on, which she makes sure to show the camera. While details about the pair collaborating remain scarce, Lady Gaga's latest hint is the latest in a long line of clues that a new song is coming.

Lady Gaga's new movie, Joker: Folie à Deux, in which she stars alongside Joaquin Phoenix, is set to be released on October 4. As a result, fans are speculating that the "Shallow" singer may have recorded a new song with Mars for the soundtrack.

Earlier this week, Billboard rounded up the evidence Gaga and Mars were working together. "Bruno followed the 'Bad Romance' singer and he also posted a video on [Instagram]," the outlet reported. "She commented laughing with hearts and he chimed in and added a rose." While their social media activity doesn't confirm or deny the existence of a duet, it certainly seems as though new music might be on the way.

Phoenix' Joker—reprised from the 2019 Joker—will sing showtunes as a way to bring to life his character's love of music, while still embodying what makes the Joker, well, the Joker. "It was important to protect that with poor phrasing and occasional bum notes," Phoenix told Empire.

"Arthur [Fleck, the Joker's real name] grew up hearing his mother play these songs on the radio. He’s not a singer, and he shouldn’t sound like a professional singer. He should sound like somebody that’s taking a shower and just bursts out into song."

The much-anticipated movie also stars Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener and Zazie Beetz, and is set for release on Oct. 4.

"The ring features a large oval cut diamond, estimated to be around 10 carats, set in a classic 4-prong setting. The band appears to be made of platinum, providing a sturdy and elegant base for such a large diamond.

"The diamond itself is likely of excellent quality, possibly VVS1 clarity, with very minimal inclusions, and near colorless, likely in the D-F range.

"I would estimate the ring to be worth upwards of £900,000 ($1.15m), possibly even £1 million ($1.3m), given the quality and size of the diamond."

Taylor also points out that Gaga hasn't been seen with the ring in Paris.

The House of Gucci actress is in the French capital after having performed at the opening ceremony on Friday.

While in Paris, Gaga also previewed her upcoming album by sharing snippets of it on the capital's streets. She shared a selfie on Instagram Stories ahead of the preview, writing, "I'm so deeply touched by my French fans this week outside the hotel—I'm gonna come out and say goodbye tonight with a few seconds of #LG7."

Lady Gaga made quite the entrance for her performance at the 2024 Olympics Opening Ceremony in Paris. The Oscar-winning star performed on the bank of the River Seine, where she sang French circus song "Mon Truc en Plume." The show-stopping performance was inspired by French Cabaret and saw Lady Gaga surrounded by a plethora of flamingo pink feathers created by Dior.

It seems incredibly likely that the rain contributed to Lady Gaga's dancer falling off of the stage. In spite of the rain, Lady Gaga and her team completed an unforgettable performance, replete with a head-to-toe Dior outfit.

Céline Dion also gave a wonderful performance at the Opening Ceremony, where she sang Édith Piaf’s "Hymne à l’Amour" below the Eiffel Tower. For her appearance, she wore a sparkling Dior Haute Couture Gown, which took more than 1,000 hours to make by the Atelier.

Following the performance, Lady Gaga took to X to celebrate her iconic appearance at the Olympics. Detailing how she prepared for the performance, she wrote, "I studied French choreography that put a modern twist on a French classic." She continued, "I rehearsed tirelessly to study a joyful French dance, brushing up on some old skills—I bet you didn’t know I used to dance at a 60’s French party on the lower east side when I was first starting out! I hope you love this performance as much as I do."

Further explaining the collaboration, Lady Gaga wrote, "I am also humbled to be asked by the Olympics organizing committee to sing such a special French song—a song to honor the French people and their tremendous history of art, music, and theatre." She continued, "This song was sung by Zizi Jeanmaire, born in Paris a French ballerina, she famously sang 'Mon Truc en Plumes' in 1961. The title means 'My Thing with Feathers.'"

The 2024 Olympics Opening Ceremony was a remarkable event, which included an appearance by Lady Gaga surrounded by plumes of flamingo pink feathers. But perhaps the most emotional moment of the night occurred when Céline Dion took to the stage to perform Édith Piaf’s "Hymne à l’Amour." For her show-stopping performance, Dion donned a Dior Haute Couture gown covered in beads and sequins. Unsurprisingly, she looked absolutely sublime.

She also noted that the feathered pom-poms carried by the dancers were rented from the archive at Le Lido, a French cabaret theatre, and that she worked closely with Dior on the custom costumes.

"I studied French choreography that put a modern twist on a French classic. I rehearsed tirelessly to study a joyful French dance, brushing up on some old skills—I bet you didn’t know I used to dance at a 60’s French party on the lower east side when I was first starting out," she said.

(Gaga is rumored to perform at the 2024 Olympics Opening Ceremony on July 26, per Variety.) Of course, even dressing down, she still looked high fashion.

Sitting perched on a bay window bench in her New York City store, milliner Gigi Burris is wearing one of her own creations, a black felted flat-brim hat called the Kyleigh. It's noon on a bright April afternoon, and her Chinatown boutique hasn't opened yet for shoppers. "Should we do a tour?" she asks me, half out of her seat and eager to show off the store she opened earlier this fall.

I'm there with the milliner of the moment to get a behind-the-curtain look at her couture style of hatmaking. We start in the studio tucked in the back, where Burris and her team make all headwear by hand. She walks past straw summer hats and 1920s-inspired cloches to pick up a Swarovski crystal-studded veil fascinator lying on a workbench. “This is a custom piece for a client going to the Kentucky Derby, and this [a woven fedora embellished with silk ivory flowers] is for a client going to the Central Park Conservancy luncheon this fall," she says.

Since the very start of her career, Burris has been a hat maker in high demand: Two weeks after graduating from her hat-making program at Parsons School of Design in 2009, Rihanna borrowed pieces from Burris's senior collection for a cover shoot with W Magazine.

But she anticipates an unprecedented boom for her brand in the coming months. The sudden resurgence of hats on the Fall 2024 runways—from feathered newsboy caps at Prada to ladylike pillbox styles at Altuzarra—has ushered fashion into the era of the personality hat.

The shift excites Burris. “It obviously bodes well for business,” she says. Future upticks in sales aside, Burris hopes the fall 2024 hat trend heralds a widespread movement of more expressive dressing. She references her network of industry tastemakers who use her statement pieces to punctuate their personal style. Street style swan Jalil Johnson, for one, waxed poetic about Burris in a March edition of his fashion newsletter, Consider Yourself Cultured: Johnson noted that the Laura pillbox hat's assertive powers took a baggy, suited outfit "from a lady who lunches to a lady who owns 51 percent of the company." The latter is exactly the kind of self-assured person Burris designs hats for.

But all are welcome within the Gigi Burris universe. She points to a mood board tacked up in her workspace and describes her aesthetic as an eclectic amalgamation—from religious undertones to rock-and-roll. There are photos of angels, Spanish moss, and swans next to printouts of Willie Nelson and Mick Jagger. Another corkboard for her Fall 2024 collection features photos of '40s-era furniture, textural close-ups of velvet fabrics, and cowboy hats. "We were feeling Western when putting this together, which was well before the Beyoncé situation," she notes.

Keen on hats and headwear as a kid, Burris was always slightly ahead of her time. "Growing up in central Florida, I dressed a little kookier [than other people] and wore a lot of vintage hats," the designer recalls. In a Paris study abroad program with the Parsons School of Design, Burris became enamored with the city's appreciation for craftsmanship, prompting her to immediately enroll in a millinery course when returning to the States. From that point forward, she was hooked on hatmaking.

Mentoring under the acclaimed headwear artist Leah Chalfen, Burris honed her skill of couture hatmaking and later graduated in '09 with the prestigious Parson's Designer of the Year award (past recipients include Marc Jacobs and Proenza Schouler). She soon made a name for herself as the hatmaker to the stars, with not just Rihanna, but Lady Gaga finding an affinity for Burris's hats and Madonna wearing her flat-brim designs when performing "Living for Love" on stage. Burris realized it was time to level up as more commissions came in. She officially launched her hat business in 2012—the eponymous Gigi Burris Millinery.

Today, the brand is a best-seller amongst only a handful of other hat designers at retailers like Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom. Her roster of celebrity clients even more robust, ranging from Hailey Bieber to Dr. Jill Biden. Recently, Sarah Jessica Parker wore Burris's straw Eftagine Beret on the second season of And Just Like That... A "very, very special Carrie Bradshaw moment" for Burris.

Admittedly, Burris's trajectory is atypical. “I didn't set out to have my own brand—it sort of happened organically,” she admits. But throughout the whirlwind of early-on industry acclaim and celebrity co-signs, she's been able to stay the course. “The magic for me is the materiality [of hatmaking]. I love working with my hands and with artisans who use traditional but innovative artisanal techniques to produce quality designs made to last.”

Every Gigi Burris piece is crafted using the hand-blocking technique, a centuries-old process of sculpting and shaping the hat’s material over a wooden form or bock. Midway through the tour, Burris walks over to a shelf lined with them. She's worked with the same local NYC hat block manufacturer since her Parsons days.

Burris now pulls out a straw hat made using a proprietary technique of weaving ribbon and raffia together to make it packable. “A super advanced sewer named Chandra makes [these] for us. If we didn't have her, we wouldn't be making this piece because it's so complicated,” she notes. Then, she points to a bouquet of intricate satin rosettes on a headband made by a fourth-generation silk flower atelier, one of the last in the U.S., and references sparsely available vintage ostrich feathers from another local mom-and-pop shop.

She recognizes that, while not quite extinct, the art of millinery is certainly at risk. “These artisans retire, or their factories close, and all that know-how and knowledge disappears," she explains. In June 2022, the hatmaker launched the non-profit foundation Closely Crafted to help preserve those skills and foster future generations of milliners and skilled craftspeople. “There is a need for young artists and talent to be inspired, excited, and willing to work in this industry, so we can keep it thriving and sustaining for decades to come.”

And just as you need people to make the hats, you need people to wear them, too. Burris is optimistic, though, that the incoming fall headwear phenomenon will inspire a far-reaching renaissance. “Part of the barrier to entry is that people don't have the confidence to wear hats. But when you see someone wearing a hat whose style you admire or one on the runway, it's much easier to visualize it in your wardrobe,” she says.

Jess Graves, author of the fashion newsletter The Love List and founder of the creative agency Graves Studio, tells me that the catwalk recently converted her into a hat-wearer. When visiting Burris's shop earlier this winter, she "immediately zoned in on the Sharina hat," a pinched-crown cap that looks similar to hats on The Row's runways, influencing the fashion writer to invest.

For the hat-curious—those intrigued but perhaps too intimated to earnestly wear a classic Cowboy or floppy bucket off the beach—Burris has a straightforward bit of advice: "Just wear it." Even just once, she says, is enough to start building up the confidence to commit to the accessory. "It's just getting over that first hump."

The designer also encourages wearing hats for the everyday, menial moments. "People always ask, 'Where do you wear those veiled fascinators?' I think it's really more of, well, where do you not wear them? With the right mindset, [a veil] is just as appropriate for a 7:00 p.m. date at Temple Bar as for a gala," she says. The hatmaker recently wore a black mesh headpiece for an early, casual dinner in Paris. "We were just eating fries and having a glass of white wine."

As we wrap up the conversation—at the same bench by the front window—in a perfect moment of synchronicity, a woman walks by Burris's storefront wearing an ivory Panama hat. She looks fabulous.

Lady Gaga is living her best life, celebrating her 38th birthday in a leather trench coat in Los Angeles. But the pop star hasn't released a studio album since 2020's Chromatica, leaving fans wondering when they might get new music from the star. Now, Mother Monster is dropping (somewhat cryptic) hints about what she's been working on.

In an Instagram post she shared on her birthday last week, Gaga gushed about how proud she is of her new work. "I feel like my heart is bursting with gratitude for my own health and MUSIC—I am writing some of my best music in as long as I can remember," she wrote. "This year will be an important and meaningful year for us I know."

Back in January, Gaga posted Instagram photos from a recording studio, leading fans to speculate about new music on the way. (She posted photos from what appears to be a recording studio in November, too.) Combined with her other posts about writing lyrics and "not making a rock album," the star is feeding the rumors without actually announcing when her new music will be released.

Lady Gaga will not stand for hatred directed towards the trans community.

The singer has written a long message to people who wrote horrible comments on a sweet photo of her and TikTok star Dylan Mulvaney, originally posted on the latter's Instagram to mark International Women's Day.

Reposting the photo on her own Instagram, Gaga made it clear that she would continue to call out transphobia as long as she continues to witness it, and fans were grateful for her powerful message of support.

"It’s appalling to me that a post about National Women’s Day by Dylan Mulvaney and me would be met with such vitriol and hatred," Lady Gaga began.

"When I see a newspaper reporting on hatred but calling it 'backlash' I feel it is important to clarify that hatred is hatred, and this kind of hatred is violence. 'Backlash' would imply that people who love or respect Dylan and me didn’t like something we did. This is not backlash. This is hatred."

The Star Is Born actress went on to express her lack of surprise that transphobia is still so prevalent.

"I feel very protective in this moment, not only of Dylan, but of the trans community who continues to lead the way with their endless grace and inspiration in the face of constant degradation, intolerance, and physical, verbal, and mental violence," she said.

Gaga added that she hoped to see the day when all women were celebrated equally on International Women's Day and beyond.

"May we all come together and be loving, accepting, warm, welcoming," she concluded. "May we all stand and honor the complexity and challenge of trans life—that we do not know, but can seek to understand and have compassion for. I love people too much to allow hatred to be referred to as 'backlash.' People deserve better."

Lady Gaga has long been an outspoken voice for LGBTQ+ rights.

For example, in 2023, she dedicated her song "Born This Way" to the trans community during a Las Vegas performance, and in 2019, she gave a rousing speech at Pride Live’s Stonewall Day Concert in New York City.

She told the assembled crowd at the time, "Happy 50th anniversary of Stonewall. This is a historic day. You should be so, so proud of yourself"—and credited LGBTQ+ legends like Marsha P. Johnson and Audre Lorde for advancing the rights movement.

“I went to Beyoncé’s house, and Jay-Z was watching Judge Judy, I still remember,” he said. “I’m not kidding. And I was freaking [out]. I remember I had this weird cough when I was pitching it to her.”

He continued “It was crazy. She was incredible and so was he, and we developed it for, like, a year together. I mean, she’s one of the greatest people of all time. Then that fell through.”

Cooper said he also envisioned Adele for the role of Ally, but she only texted him back once and was “busy,” Cooper said. (Don’t count Adele out for future acting roles, though—she told Vanity Fair in December that she might be open to it: “There is one movie I want to do, but the guy whose movie it would be, he’s not mentally ready to write the script for it,” she said. “That’s the only role I ever want. Because I think I’d nail it. I think I’d do really, really good at it.”)

After the Adele possibility didn’t take off, Cooper heard Gaga sing at a benefit concert and knew he had found his leading lady. (Cooper, by the way, not only directed the film but played country singer Jackson “Jack” Maine opposite Gaga.) “It just blew the doors off of the whole place, and it was in that moment where it was like, ‘That’s it. What was I even thinking?’ And then I asked to meet her [Gaga],” he said.

The film went on to earn eight Oscar nominations and won for Best Original Song for “Shallow,” a duet featuring Gaga and Cooper.

Per People, A Star Is Born hasn’t left Cooper’s mind: he once said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that he would like to do a live reading of the movie’s script. “What I thought would be a cool thing to do, maybe one night, would be, like, a live reading of the script and sign all the songs as we read the script, like at the Hollywood Bowl or something,” Cooper said.

Seeing two of the most powerful women in the world joining forces on the red carpet was a delight; seeing them join forces on a track for Beyoncé’s upcoming album Renaissance: Act II would be almost too much talent to handle.

Bey announced during the Super Bowl—during which Swift was very much also in the news—that her next album would drop March 29; two tracks from the record, “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages,” confirm that it’s country-inspired and infused. Lest we forget, before she was one of the biggest pop stars of our time, Swift was bona fide country.

One of Beyoncé's producers, Grammy-nominated Killah B—who cowrote “Texas Hold ‘Em”—hinted at a possible Bey/Tay collab, Entertainment Tonight reports. While he didn’t explicitly mention Swift by name, when asked about featured artists on the album—including Swift herself—he said, “Let’s just say she’s [Beyoncé's] on the approach of shocking the world. I’ll let your imagination decide what that means.” 

After the world went crazy at the thought of music with these two dynamos, Killah B cleared it up on Instagram, responding to TMZ, who initially reported out his comments. “Now @tmz_tv I never mention Taylor yall did!” he wrote alongside three laughing emojis. “but it definitely will be an amazing album!” He signed off with three fire emojis. That said, Entertainment Tonight was quick to point out that “he did not outright deny Swift’s presence on any potential songs.”

So, yeah, the answer to the question of a Beyoncé collaboration with Swift is a hearty who knows? “For now, it’s still on the table, as his vague caption could hint at Beyoncé trying to shut down speculation and keep any surprises…well, surprises,” Entertainment Tonight reports. 

We do know this for sure, though: Swift is a fan. “I’m so glad I’ll never know what my life would’ve been like without @beyonce’s influence,” Swift wrote on Instagram back in October, when her Eras Tour concert film premiered. (Swift’s still ongoing Eras Tour and Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour, which wrapped last fall, are two of the highest-grossing concert tours of all time; Beyoncé’s own concert film, Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé, debuted in December.) “The way she’s taught me and every artist out here to break rules and defy industry norms. Her generosity of spirit. Her resilience and versatility. She’s been a guiding light throughout my career and the fact that she showed up tonight was like an actual fairytale.”

In an interview with Time, Swift continued to heap on the praise, telling the outlet of Beyoncé “She’s the most precious gem of a person—warm and open and funny,” Swift said. “And she’s such a great disrupter of music industry norms. She taught every artist how to flip the table and challenge archaic business practices.”

Swift has a new record of her own coming out this spring; The Tortured Poet’s Department hits shelves April 19, three weeks after Renaissance: Act II. 

Beyond the Swift collaboration theories, fans are convinced that Bey and Lady Gaga could reunite 15 years after the release of their single “Telephone.” In a teaser video for Renaissance: Act II, Beyoncé took to Instagram to share the video, which showed her driving a yellow taxi through dusty, rural Texas, set to a snippet of “Texas Hold ‘Em.”

“Some individuals with keen eyes immediately pointed out that the visual for her new song looked eerily similar to the ending of her ‘Telephone’ music video with Lady Gaga, which ends on a cliffhanger with a title card reading ‘To Be Continued,’” Entertainment Tonight reports.

Hey, they never said when it would be continued, and 15 years later seems like the right time to tie it all up with a bow. Right?

Lady Gaga wasn't performing at the Super Bowl LVIII, but she still caught fans' attention. Sporting a San Francisco 49ers jacket, Gaga sat with her boyfriend, Michael Polansky, as they watched the game. But the pop superstar's elaborate eye makeup look stole the show—it appeared to be a callback to the makeup she wore while performing at the Super Bowl in 2017.

During her performance seven years ago, Gaga sported shimmery purple eyeshadow and a crystal-studded mask over each eye. Her makeup artist, Sarah Tanno, shared a closeup of the look on Instagram at the time. And, tellingly, Tanno reposted the photo before the 2024 kickoff, hinting at what was to come when Gaga showed up in Las Vegas.

As Allure reported at the time, Gaga's 2017 Super Bowl look included crystal eye decals that the pop star removed partway into her performance. It's not clear whether or not Tanno employed the same technique for Gaga's eye look this year (after all, she didn't need to make any lightning-fast costume changes this time around). But the inspiration behind the crystal-heavy look is clear.

The memory of Gaga's halftime show performance, which included incredible aerial stunts, lives on. This year, though, Gaga was happy to watch the game from the sidelines.

Is Lady Gaga making new music? Fans seem to think so after the artist posted new photos to her Instagram account.

On Thursday, Feb. 8, Gaga posted a series of gorgeous black-and-white pictures of herself seemingly working on new music in a recording studio, much to the delight of her many fans.

The first photo post features an out-of-focus, close-up of Gaga holding her blond ponytail and showing off a peace sign tattoo. She captioned the post with a black heart emoji—not entirely suspect, but wait... there's more.

In the second post, Mother Monster can be seen leaning over a piano while wearing a chic white button-down blouse and a black vest. She captioned this photo with another emoji.

"SHE’S COMING Y’ALL," one fan wrote in the comments.

"Not saying mother for an entire minute challenge," another commented.

It was the third post, however, that really started to fuel rumors that Gaga is back in the studio working on some new music.

Gaga shared two black-and-white photos of her seemingly working on some tunes—one showed her crouched on her bed next to a keyboard, while the other showed her in what appears to be a studio working near a computer monitor.

To add to the speculation, Gaga captioned the post: "Tik tok tik tok."

"READY MOTHER," the one-and-only Kesha wrote in the comments along with a black heart emoji.

"The magic potions are getting ready," one fan wrote.

"GAGA IM DRIVING STOPPPPPP," another commented (hopefully after they pulled over because, you know, safety first).

In recent years, Gaga has appeared to be more focused on her acting career than music. She first stared in the 2018 film A Star is Born, then played a role in 2021's House of Gucci and is set to play the infamous Harley Quinn in the second Joker film.

That doesn't mean Gaga has left music behind, of course. In January, the star posted another photo on her Instagram page of her appearing to be in the studio recording new music.

In the photo, Gaga can be seen in front of a mic and wearing headphones, as well as glasses, oversized sweater and sans pants. She captioned the post with a black heart emoji and music notes.

To borrow the words of a fan who commented on the post: "Mother we are starving."

Grabbing a takeaway pizza is a tradition as old as time. I'm sure even the founding fathers slipped on their boots and buckles to go and grab a slice of ye ol' pizza. But while most of us head out to procure that delicious greasy pizza in a hoodie and sweatpants, Lady Gaga does it as the pinnacle of quiet luxury.

Yep, that's right, the woman best known for wearing a dress made entirely out of meat and a coat of green muppets has achieved the most effortlessly cool outfit to go and grab a pizza with her boyfriend, Michael Polansky.

It's rare to see the couple out together, who have been dating since 2020. Polansky, a philanthropic entrepreneur, wore an orange puffer coat with olive green pants and a black baseball cap.

Gaga looked striking in a supple dark brown leather blazer over black Alo leggings. Her outfit was stunning from head to toe, with black knee-length crocodile boots and sleek black sunglasses.

To top it all off, Gaga has her signature platinum blonde locks tied back into a messy low bun. This is a hairstyle and outfit we'd never expect from "Mother Monster," but she looks flawless in it.

If this is how she dresses for a quick bite of 'za with her boyfriend, just imagine the red carpet looks we have coming from the newest member of the quiet luxury look. Although perhaps she'll make an exception for promoting her new film, Joker: Folie à Deux, where she'll play Harley Quinn to Joaquin Phoenix's Joker.

We hope to see more of Polansky on her arm, especially as recent reports had suggested they'd broken up. Hopefully, this isn't breakup pizza!

On December 12, A-listers showed out for a photo call for Bradley Cooper’s newest film, Maestro. The film, which Cooper both directed and stars in, delves into the true story of the legendary composer Leonard Bernstein and his complex relationship with his wife, Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein, who is played by Cary Mulligan. 

At the photo call, Cooper and Mulligan were joined by Lady Gaga, who previously starred in A Star is Born alongside Cooper, for whom it was a directorial debut and incredible success. Gaga has remained close with him since then, but at the event this week, fan overlooked Cooper and Gaga’s friendship in favor of something else–the similarity between her sleek blonde bob and Mulligan’s.

With celebrities like Kate Beckinsale and Megan Fox opting for bobs lately, it seems like the haircut is truly taking over this winter. Both Mulligan and Gaga opted for platinum blonde, but the former wore her hair completely straight while the latter curled hers at the bottom and on the right side for a more retro, 50s-inspired look. Gaga also sported a dramatic side part, while Mulligan parted her hair right down the middle. While the stars matched so well it looked like they’d planned it, the difference between their styles showed how versatile bobs truly can be. 

Highly anticipated and painstakingly researched, Maestro promises to be a moving, exciting triumph. The film has already hit theaters and is set to start streaming on Netflix on December 20.

The year 2018 is long gone (and a lot of water has gone under the bridge since), but a duo we loved that year—Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, a la A Star Is Born—are taking us back via a reunion last night on the red carpet. Gaga came out to support Cooper and his Maestro costar Carey Mulligan at a screening of the film last night in L.A., Just Jared reports; Gaga wore an Alexander McQueen suit, Mulligan was in a Celine dress with Bulgari jewelry, and Cooper wore Louis Vuitton.

Gaga and Cooper have been friends since filming A Star Is Born, and her appearance at the screening was apparently a surprise. The duo’s chemistry was so intense during the filming and press run of A Star Is Born that (if you’ll remember) they were the subject of countless “are they or aren’t they” rumors around their relationship status, something Gaga addressed on Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2019: “First of all, social media, quite frankly, is the toilet of the internet,” she said. “And what it has done to pop culture is abysmal. Yes, people saw love, and guess what? That’s what we wanted you to see. This is a love song. The movie A Star Is Born is a love story. It was so important to both of us that we were connected the entire time…Look, I’ve had my arms wrapped around Tony Bennett for three years touring the world. When you’re singing love songs, that’s what you want people to feel. I’m an artist and I guess we did a good job—fooled ya!” (Gaga is specifically referencing their performance of “Shallow”—from the movie’s soundtrack—at the Oscars.)

For his part, Cooper told People in 2018 “I made a friend for life. As great as this movie was, the thing that I think I’ll take away forever is the relationship I have with her [Gaga] because she is an incredible person. I’m very lucky to have worked with her.”

In addition to Gaga’s surprise appearance, there was another girl on Cooper’s arm that we were so happy to see: his six-year-old daughter Lea, who he shares with ex Irina Shayk. She joined her proud dad wearing Dolce & Gabbana.

“Every single thing is absolutely shaded by, or brought into glorious colors, by the fact that I get to be a father to a wonderful human being,” Cooper gushed about his only child on the “SmartLess” podcast. “You have this wonderful thing or breakthrough with a script, or you have a wonderful moment on this set or in an editing room…you have, like, 40 of those moments every day with your kid that are that level of joy. That’s not spinning it, that’s just the truth.”

Maestro is about legendary composer Leonard Bernstein and will hit Netflix a week from today, on December 20. Watch closely, by the way—at one point, Lea makes a cameo in her dad’s film, marking her first acting credit, Entertainment Tonight reports.

To get a "red carpet gown for the ages" title is harder than it looks. You're up against some stiff competition—literally decades of dresses have come before you, so it's hard to stand out. And if you have the cache to pull a couture gown, you also have to style it correctly; Too much drama, and you look silly, but not enough drama and you'll blend in. There are some common factors at play here for those who manage to pull off this tricky balance: Oftentimes, the person is either a style icon or about to become one. They're working with an incredible designer who understands their aesthetic. And it's usually at an event to match the over-the-top vibe (meaning, you'll see a bunch of Met Gala and Oscars outfits on here, but then again, there will also be some less formal, more fun events on here too).

While not the first man to wear a dress on the red carpet, or even the Oscars red carpet, the innovator in genderless fashion told Vogue in 2019 that he'd always wanted to wear a big gown but didn't know when he'd get the opportunity. The Oscars, and this Christian Siriano custom gown, was the answer. He admitted that he knew "people are going to be really uncomfortable" but that "it’s not anybody’s business but mine."

From dismissed out of hand as silly and performative, to appreciated in hindsight as iconic, Björk showing up to the (normally black tie) Oscars wearing a swan was innovative fashion at its finest. It was also perfectly on brand for the swan-obsessed singer, including pretending to lay an egg on the red carpet (lol). It's been mimicked and referenced a lot in popular culture, so much so that it's completely turned the corner and now appreciated as a strong artistic choice.

Denim has never been so memorable. Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake, who were dating at the time, matched absolutely head to toe—like, including their accessories—in the light blue fabric. Spears has said that the outfit was her idea; Costume designer Steven Gerstein told Jezebel, "It was kind of like their prom. They had an idea, and we did what they wanted as opposed to the other way around," adding, "The rest is history."

Lil Nas X at the MTV Video Music Awards, 2022

Lil Nas X has shown himself a fashion innovator many a time, but nothing was more iconic than turning out the VMA black carpet with a feathered dress and headpiece that was literally several feet long. The Harris Reed look, which was (by Nas' own admission) very heavy, helped the star in his own words "feel amazing" as he explained on the red carpet. He absolutely made the most of showing off the outfit from every possible angle, too.

Courtney Love at the Golden Globes, 2000

Courtney Love is no stranger to controversy, but she might have hit her peak in this dress from the Christian Dior's "homeless" collection—which even at the time was dubbed "tasteless chic." She even remembers being shocked by the dress when it arrived, telling The Guardian in 2019, "The dress arrived and it was ridiculous...I remember thinking: Okay it’s crazy-looking, but I’ll make it work.” To the best of her recollection, she had to glue it in place.

Celine Dion at the Oscars, 1999

Celine Dion's white John Galliano tuxedo shouldn't have turned heads as much as it did—except that the singer decided to wear the blazer backwards for a back-revealing look. Not many people liked it at the time, but she told People in 2017 that she has absolutely zero regrets: "When I wore that, everyone was wearing dresses, not pants...I was the only one with pants in a backward suit from Galliano and if I would do this today it would work."

Cher at the Oscars, 1986

Cher and longtime collaborator Bob Mackie joined forces to create this peak Cher look. Apparently the look was a form of "revenge" dressing, since she had been snubbed at the Oscars that year. Cher said she always felt like an outsider at the awards—not chic enough to fit in, in other words—and so when it came time to wear a black Oscars dress...this is what happened. Mackie told The New Yorker his response to the critics was, ‘"Of course it’s not fashion. It’s a crazy getup for attention.’ And it did get attention—people talk about it still.”

An icon inspired by another icon, Madonna's Marilyn Monroe outfit was an absolute showstopper. The elements were all there: Taking Michael Jackson as a date. Having Bob Mackie design her Marilyn dress. Wearing $20 million in jewelry, reportedly. Playing coy about whether it was actually a date with Jackson, and whether they were in a relationship (Madonna: always very good at the rumor mill!). She really did channel a modern Monroe.

Perhaps one of the most controversial red carpet dresses of all time ever, it's hard to overstate the impact this dress had on the cultural conversation. From vegans talking about its poor taste, to people calling it a form of modern art, the meat dress was, in fact, made out of flank steak. Lady Gaga later explained the significance to Ellen DeGeneras, saying, "If we don't stand up for what we believe in and if we don't fight for our rights...pretty soon we're going to have as much rights as the meat on our bones." Fun fact: It was preserved into jerky and displayed!

Grace Kelly at the Oscars, 1955

Wearing a light green-blue Edith Head dress when she won an Oscar for The Country Girl, the dress was apparently originally designed for the movie's premiere that Kelly then rewore to the ceremony. It was made from a bolt of satin that cost $4,000 (which, by the way, means it cost a lot by 1950s standards), and thus was one of the most expensive gowns made at the time. Much like Kate Middleton does today, Kelly would rewear the dress again—and for good reason.

Obviously the rich light blue Edith Head gown is a stunning choice for Elizabeth Taylor (and a bit unusual for the buttoned-up event), but what really turned heads was the 69-carat diamond Burton had purchased for her. Originally made as a ring, Taylor felt it was too heavy and made into a necklace. The "Taylor-Burton" diamond was reportedly in the top 20 of largest diamonds in the world, at least when it went up for auction.

Sharon Stone at the Oscars, 1998

Before high-low fashion was a thing, Sharon Stone was shocking fashion critics and fans by pairing couture and retail outfits. The first time, at the 1996 Oscars two years earlier, it was a clothing snafu that forced Stone to pivot by picking a shirt out of her own closet. People ended up loving it so much she recreated the idea here with a Vera Wang skirt and white button-down shirt from the Gap. Even thought it's more ubiquitous now, at the time it was a wild choice.

One of Versace's most well-known red dresses ever, Cindy Crawford knew what outfit she needed to debut her relationship with actor Richard Gere. It helped raise the profile of both of them, not just because the look was very daring for the Oscars (the slit up the back is...very, very high), but also because, according to Crawford in an Instagram post, it was the first time a Versace gown had been worn on a red carpet. It was a history-making moment.

Lupito Nyong'o at SAGs, 2015

In 2014, Lupita Nyong'o was still an up-and-coming fashion maven, so she needed a showstopping gown for the 2015 Screen Actors' Guild awards. It was an absolutely standout piece and cemented her status as fashion icon. Her Fred Leighton jewels included a 2.5-carat diamond and onyx ring alongside Art Deco-inspired earrings. She liked the pattern so much, apparently, that she wore a shorter version of the dress at the afterparty. A multifunctional fashion for the win!

Julia Roberts at the Oscars, 2001

Julia Roberts won an Oscar in this Valentino dress, which was actually a vintage gown from their 1992 archives (and modeled by Christy Turlington, another icon, originally). The whole vibe was very "old Hollywood with some modern touches," including the y-shape top and the white stripes through the train. Valentino cited it as one of the high points of his career, and Roberts told Marie Claire UK in 2023 she keeps it under her bed for her daughter to wear one day.

It might not be the dress itself that set the internet aflame, but it was the way Angelina Jolie posed in it: with her leg extended far from the rest of her body and a mysterious smile. Jolie told People in 2019 that of two dresses, she'd chosen the more comfortable one. "I think when you feel comfortable, when you feel yourself...you embrace it. And sometimes, maybe it appears to be a thing, I don’t know."

"Disco chic" hit its natural peak when Farrah Fawcett, huge star at the time, showed up in a gown that matched her fabulous fringey hair. The Stephen Burrows gown was immediately copied all over the place. The gown both solidified Fawcett's burgeoning reputation as a serious actor, but it also raised Burrows profile (he was already a huge designer, but this made his gowns a must-have). The perfect pairing.

It's really hard to pick a single Zendaya red carpet gown for this list—she's been innovating for years. But probably the one that people most know her for was her Cinderella-esque gown that she wore to the Met Gala, complete with fairy godmother (stylist Law Roach) waving his wand and literally making the gown light up. Zendaya later admitted in a British Vogue video that the dress wasn't finished, and that "it needed a week more" and was supposed to do way more in terms of lighting.

Halle Berry at the Oscars, 2002

Even though it's hard to believe now, the Elie Saab dress that Halle Berry won an Oscar in was considered a little unusual at the time. That particular awards ceremony was still not a place where you could debut a ton of netting, but that's exactly what Berry did. And then she went on to win an Oscar in it—the first Black woman to win a Best Actress statuette. The dress is now seen as so iconic that it's displayed in the Academy Museum.

The reason you've probably seen this cut and style of dress on countless red carpets is, in part, because Penelope Cruz helped popularize it in this Atelier Versace gown. Believe it or not, some people didn't love the feathery look in the train of the dress, which were made of tulle, silk chiffon, and organza. Now, of course, it's a classic Oscars-worthy dress (cited often as a favorite of all time), and it would kick off more amazing red carpet style from Cruz.

Reese Witherspoon at the Oscars, 2011

Reese Witherspoon normally has a pretty laidback red carpet style—but when you're going to the Oscars, you have to dress it up, and Witherspoon absolutely delivered. The stark Armani Privé black and white gown plus high ponytail was an unusual look for the starlet, but immediately made it onto "best-of" Oscar looks, both then and now. The trick was to keep things simple, with a little Neil Lane jewelry but otherwise letting the dress do the talking.

Gwyneth Paltrow at the Oscars, 1999

The '90s didn't necessarily feature a lot of bubble gum pink, much less big, flouncy ballgowns...that is, of course, until Gwyneth Paltrow wore this pink Ralph Lauren to the Oscars (and it certainly helped that she won the Best Actress statuette that year for Shakespeare in Love). True to form, the dress was divisive at the time, but clearly enough people saw something they liked, because the dress was copied a lot for prom and formal gowns everywhere.

Hepburn's Edith Head gown (now considered one of the classic "Oscar dresses" of the twentieth century) was actually a rewear for the actor, who first donned it in the last scene of Roman Holiday, according to British Vogue. It was the right choice for the year where she took home the Best Actress award (also for Roman Holiday). The tea-length dress was a little shorter than more common floor-length styles, and she called it her "lucky" dress.

This Vera Wang gown is technically a rich saffron color, even though it's stored in some people's (read: my) memory as "that gorgeous custom-made yellow gown Michelle Williams wore to the Oscars." It's got the old Hollywood glamour of the ruffles and knotted fabric at the waist, but the distinctly modern touches (the red lipstick, the deep neckline) make it the perfect fusion of traditional and contemporary.

The so-called "safety pin" dress (for obvious reasons) might be the most important Versace to ever grace the red carpet. Elizabeth Hurley, who wasn't as well-known in the United States, immediately became a known entity thanks to the revealing gown that had gold pins looking like they were literally holding the gown together (because they were). It takes quite a gown, but at the premiere exactly no one was looking at Hugh Grant.

Nicole Kidman at the Oscars, 1997

To wear a color like this chartreuse at the Oscars was unusual for the time (Joan Rivers famously shouted at Nicole Kidman that it was an "ugly color," then pretended to puke, which...ouch), but the gown is now known as one of the best Oscar dresses of all time. The Dior gown, designed by John Galliano, was a difficult color for most to pull off, but Kidman absolutely makes it look effortless. It raised the profile of both her and Galliano.

Blake Lively at the Met Gala, 2022

If you've never seen this dress move from rose gold to torquoise (mimicking the oxidation process, like that of the Statue of Liberty) it's worth looking the video up on YouTube: It took three men to unfurl the gown while Blake Lively was literally in the middle of the red carpet. It was two dresses in one, cleverly concealed! Even for Met Gala veterans, the look blew attendees' minds. Lively, who was attending as co-chair along with husband Ryan Reynolds, nailed the assignment of wearing a showstopping gown worthy of her role.

Jennifer Lawrence has given us a lot of top-notch red carpet moments, but her first Oscars really set the stage for future greatness. The red custom Calvin Klein Collection dress (which hearkens back to the brand's heydey in the '90s, where literally everyone was wearing one) helped the young star become an immediate icon. In terms of making the young 20-something seem like she was already an awards-season veteran, they nailed it.

Wearing a red carpet on a red carpet? Only Cardi B could! The rapper is constantly seeking to outdo herself, and this Thom Browne gown made of tulle and silk organza (then filled with down, because it's basically a duvet) also featured, per Vogue, 30,000(!) dyed feathers in the design. It needed a 10-person entourage to wrangle around the Met Gala carpet! This wasn't Cardi B's first Met Gala appearance, but it's arguably her most memorable.

Ah yes. The pinnacle of revenge dressing! Shortly after then-Prince Charles admitted that, yes, he'd been unfaithful on national TV, Princess Diana wore this black dress and basically made international front page news. Diana had originally planned to wear Valentino, but switched the dress when the details were leaked to the press. Per William Ivey Long, costume designer for the Broadway musical Diana, the Christina Stambolian dress was originally deemed as "too much," but became exactly right for her purposes.

Fun fact: Jennifer Lopez has had a long-standing friendship with Donatella Versace, and this chiffon gown was one of the products of that friendship. Believe it or not, Spice Girl Geri Halliwell (and Donatella herself) had previously worn the same dress at red carpets, but the moment J. Lo stepped out in the naval-baring gown she became a fashion icon. In 2019, J. Lo closed the Versace spring-summer fashion week show in Milan, wearing an almost perfect replica of the original dress.

Rihanna was turning up the fashion volume at the Met Gala before everyone else was doing it. This yellow Guo Pei was revolutionary at the time, for its size, scope, and color. Rihanna told Access that she felt super-insecure originally. "I was driving past the red carpet, and I was just seeing like gowns, and I was like, 'Oh my god, like, I’m a clown. People are going to laugh at me. This is like, too much.'" But then she decided to just go for it—and has no regrets. It's one of the most gorgeous gowns of all time.
