I first became a Claire Danes fan after binge-watching Homeland at an alarming pace. So naturally, The Beast in Me, which comes from the same team behind the spy thriller, had me hooked immediately. And with the 2026 Emmys landing smack in the middle of New York Fashion Week, I’m already in full trend-spotting mode. While tonight is technically about television, as a beauty editor, I was mostly waiting to see what Danes would bring glam-wise to the 78th annual Primetime Emmys red carpet.

Danes is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for her role as Agatha “Aggie” Wiggs, but her beauty look made a case for its own moment on the carpet. For the occasion, Danes wore her blonde bob sleek and straight with a deep side part, tucking one side behind her ear and letting the other sweep across her forehead. The blunt ends landed just above her shoulders.

Her makeup stayed soft, with super-illuminated skin and gorgeous rosy cheeks—pared-down makeup and statement-making hair are a trend I am seeing on this Emmy carpet often. And I have to say, the side part got me. After years of center parts dominating basically everything, I'm loving the little switch-up. Let's not forget to give her sculptural silver gown its flowers, too. Danes looks like she walked straight off a NYFW runway.

Emmy Rossum's 2026 Emmys hair is my fall inspiration, and in a second, it's going to be yours, too. The Furious actress hit the red carpet for the night's festivities, wearing a gorgeous black dress with scalloped edges and sporting a chic, short baby French manicure design on her nails. Still, her hair and makeup were the star of the show thanks to her glam team: makeup artist Jo Baker and hairstylist Vernon François.

Rossum opted for a monochromatic makeup look for the big evening, with Baker using products from Glossier, Victoria Beckham Beauty, and her eponymous makeup brand to create the simple brown, smoked-out eye as well as the matching blush and lipstick. Francois, known for his mastery of curly and coily hair, had his expertise on full display tonight. Not only were Rossum's tresses full and voluminous, but each curl was meticulously defined, with not even a hint of frizz anywhere. Do you know how hard that is to achieve? The 78th annual Primetime Emmys are currently underway (in the midst of New York Fashion Week, no less!) and the stars are already storming the red carpet with enough hair and makeup inspiration to last through the rest of the year. Of course, I'm playing beauty police from the comfort of my home, but there is always one star who everyone can unanimously agree never fails to turn a look: Zendaya Coleman, everyone.

Both a nominee and a presenter tonight, the actress had the internet in a frenzy over the weekend when she debuted a gorgeous curled pixie ahead of the award show. Tonight, she is sticking with the short hairstyle, but instead of the playful curls and colorful makeup she sported just 24 hours ago, she's taking a page from Halle Berry's hairstyle book from the 2002 Oscars.

While she did away with the flipped curls from the weekend, Zendaya's hair, courtesy of Coree Moreno, who used the ghd Speed hair dryer and Sculpt flat iron, still had that tousled volume we've all come to know and love from the star. That volume was emphasized even more by the perfectly gelled pieces closer to her hairline and the crown of her head, just like Berry's version when she won an Oscar for her role in Monster's Ball. A razor-sharp brow served as a gorgeous complement to a sultry, lash-forward eyeshadow look, which gave way to a bronzy-pink blush and a neutral lip. A milky, almond-shaped manicure completed the beauty details and allowed her dress (which is dripping in jewels, mind you) to really be the star of the show. In short? She looks tanned, is dripping in jewels, and still appears to have that newlywed glow from her marriage to longtime partner, Tom Holland, earlier this year.

The two-time winner is hoping for a third trophy this evening for her portrayal of Rue Bennet in the hit HBO series Euphoria. Until then, all we know for sure is that she will also be presenting tonight, so if we're lucky, we may get another head-turning beauty and fashion moment from that star before the festivities are over. It's definitely not Mariska Hargitay's first time at the Emmys. She's been nominated 12 times. She won for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Olivia Benson in Law & Order: SVU circa 2006, and again in 2017 for her directing work in I Am Evidence. But the 2026 Primetime Emmy Awards, taking place a decade later, are a Big One for the actress. Not only did she already win two Emmys tonight for My Mom Jane, but she's also the host. And, she is the first female host in 15 years, I might add.

While I'm confident that she will do an A+++ job (supposedly Stephen Colbert's writing team helped her prep), I'm going to spend the little bit of time leading up to the show by doing a deep dive into her glam for the evening.

Here's what I know: she teamed up with makeup artist Kate Synott for the big night. Her skin was prepped exclusively with Cetaphil products, proving once again that drugstore staples can help you achieve a very luxe-looking glow. There's nothing quite like the charm and chaos that come with the 78th annual Primetime Emmys happening right in the middle of New York Fashion Week. It's been perhaps the busiest week for spotting new beauty trends—sunglass nails at Diane von Furstenberg and petal lips on the street style circuit. And now that the red carpet is in full effect, my eyes are scanning for every possible fall beauty trend poised to take over in the next four to 12 weeks.

So far, it's looking like color is having a moment, hair is getting longer (dare I say the bob era is on its way out?), and nails are getting richer—earth tones all the way. It's a chic group in attendance tonight, and frankly, I wouldn't expect anything less than what they've been serving.

Love it or hate it, low ponytails are very much back. Although, admittedly much cooler than the Founding Fathers-esque vibe I wore throughout middle school. Just look to Gummer, Meryl Streep's daughter and Love Story actress, for proof.

Curious how The Pitt actress got this good of a glow? She worked with makeup artist Aimee Twist, who prepped her skin with Icon Skincare. My favorite product from the brand is the Heritage Cream—it gives an incredible glow.

 The nominee for Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series wanted to keep her look “ youthful, fresh, and modern to balance the structural look of the dress and show her beautiful skin and large, expressive eyes,” per celebrity makeup artist Rebecca Restrepo. To execute the laidback glam, Restrepo used the ZIIP Halo and Beau Domaine for skin prep.

Makeup artist Rebekah Aladdin teamed up with Aveeno to tackle Brunson's skin prep—and clearly it paid off. The Abbott Elementary actress looked absolutely radiant with very glowy skin and gorgeous mermaid waves.

You know how Mariah Carey pops out of Christmas decor the day after Thanksgiving with absolute glee on her face? That’s how I feel when the holiday Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Palettes launch every year. I’ve said it before, but it always bears repeating: Hourglass has perfected the baked powder formula. Though they may try, no other brand has come close to the finish, color selection, sensorial experience, or aesthetic elegance Hourglass has mastered. They’ve catapulted to yet another stratosphere with the launch of the Ambient Lighting Edit Unlocked collection.

​As with past iterations, each palette's packaging features integrated art. Still, this year’s lineup is particularly special because the brand collaborated with a jewelry designer. “We're proud to continue our tradition of celebrating female creatives through a collaboration with French jewelry designer Lauren Rubinski,” Carisa Janes, Founder and President of Hourglass Cosmetics, tells me. “Known for uniting French elegance with Italian craftsmanship, Lauren’s work reflects the same balance of heritage and modernity that defines Hourglass. Her creations celebrate individuality, passion, and authenticity—a shared belief that beauty is a form of personal expression.”

​The result? Four Ambient Lighting Edit palettes for the 2026 holiday season (with one exclusive to Sephora), each with its own special motif and meaning behind each hero charm. “The Love palette is adorned with a heart charm celebrating connection and affection,” Rubinski says. Hope, which features a heart-shaped key, symbolizes “confidence, new beginnings, and infinite possibility,” she adds. The upside-down horseshoe on the Luck palette symbolizes pouring luck onto others, transforming the piece into a true good luck charm, and Wish, with the four-leaf clover design, symbolizes luck, happiness, and protection.

What’s In the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Powder Formulas?

If you’ve read any of my past reviews on this brand, you likely know that half of the reason why I’m so obsessed with it is that the powders feel silky smooth on the skin. This is thanks to ingredients like boron nitride, a synthetic mineral powder with a light-scattering quality that hides fine lines, wrinkles, and pores while letting the powder glide over the face with ease. Add synthetic micas, diamond powder, and more, and you're left with these little baked tiles of pure goodness and a glow that just won't quit. That's why so many professional makeup artists swear by these powders.

Which Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Is Best for My Skin Tone?

So, there’s technically no “right” palette for each skin tone (makeup has no rules, after all); however, each palette is intended to complement certain skin tones. Let’s get into it.

• Deep Skin

Luck is the best match for deep skin tones. Eternal Light, the finishing powder, is one of my favorites in the permanent line, especially when I want a tanned, sun-kissed finish. The blushes, highlighters, and bronzer (all brand new and limited to this palette, by the way) come in an array of purple-toned hues that look absolutely delicious on deep skin, especially if you use them as I do and layer them over a more matte formula.

• Medium Skin

Hope would work beautifully on medium skin tones. The finishing powder, Soft Light, is fantastic for setting all over the face or highlighting specific areas; plus, the warm, mauve-toned hues create an easy but cohesive blush-and-bronze moment.

• Light Skin

The Wish palette has the lightest shades of the entire lineup. One of my favorite finishing powder shades, Diffused Light, is featured in this palette, along with slightly cooler shades like the highlighter in Moonstone Glow and the Ethereal Bronze bronzer.

The Love palette, available exclusively at Sephora, is another palette you might think is for lighter skin tones, but I implore you to go into stores and play before you decide. The blush colors in this palette are fantastic, especially if you love a more pink-toned cheek, and the finishing powder, Dim Light, is one of the most universally flattering shades in the brand’s entire lineup. I constantly switch back and forth between this one and the Luck palette, and I have to admit: they’re neck and neck for the title of my favorite 2026 Ambient Lighting Edit palette.

Are the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Palettes Worth It?

Yes. A thousand times yes, these palettes are more than worth the money. $98 is steep, and I'm not disputing that. However, these palettes are one of the few makeup launches I look forward to every year without fail, and I believe they can work for everyone. I personally prefer to use all the Ambient powders to “finish” my makeup, so I use them as the last step before setting spray (and sometimes even after). What I will say is that I would love to see more nuance in the bronzers selected for each palette. It’s a common critique, and I find bronzers a particular pain point for deeper-toned consumers who may not want to use two separate products to get the look they want.

​In short, I truly believe that you can’t go wrong with picking up at least one of these palettes. They make a fantastic addition to any makeup collection, and this year’s versions in particular also feel well-suited to make one of the chicest beauty gifts of the season thanks to Rubinski's special touch. New York Fashion Week S/S '27 is winding down in NYC, and unsurprisingly, the street style set has not disappointed. Editors, creators, and buyers are rushing all around Manhattan (and parts of Brooklyn) to view the upcoming season's collections from buzzy designers like Henry Zankov (who made his debut as the new creative director of Diane Von Furstenberg), Daniella Kallmeyer, Jamie Haller, Maria McManus, Tory Burch and more. I am, admittedly, a makeup brush snob. I’ve never really bought into applying product with my fingers, and while I’ll occasionally reach for a sponge, brushes have always been my go-to. I still dabble with the staples in my collection that seem like everyone has owned since high school, but becoming a beauty editor has made me much more particular about what I invest in. Once you start paying attention to how a really good brush is made—and how much easier it can make it to create an incredible makeup look—you can’t exactly unlearn it.

Which brings me to Kraum, a line of makeup brushes that launched just under a year ago. It doesn’t hurt that the brand is gorgeous. The chic black-and-white packaging caught my eye first, but there’s real beauty-world pedigree behind it, too. Kraum was created by Annie Kreighbaum, the former executive editor and VP of brand development at Glossier before going on to co-found Soft Services. This time around, she’s turned her attention to makeup brushes, down to the tiniest details—and I mean tiny.

Five of Kraum’s brushes are part of the “Micro” family, and they live up to the name. The brushes are designed with makeup artists in mind, which is obvious when you look at some of the incredibly specific shapes. That said, they’re not so technical that the average makeup lover would have no idea what to do with them.

What also surprised me was how small the collection is. There aren’t endless variations of essentially the same thing; Kraum makes just seven brushes total, and each one has a very specific purpose. Aesthetically, it might be the chicest beauty brand I’m seeing right now. So yes, I wanted to find out whether the brushes were actually that good, or whether I had simply fallen for excellent taste.

What Kind of Brushes Does Kraum Have?

All seven Kraum brushes are handmade in Kumano, Japan, a city famous for its centuries-old brushmaking tradition, and where many luxury beauty brands have their brushes produced. Five belong to the Micro Brush Set: the Angle, Saber, Swab, Square, and Taper. Most use synthetic bristles, while the Swab combines goat hair with synthetic fibers. They’re designed for very precise work, from liner to spot concealing or getting product right along the lash line. You can buy them individually or as the $149 set, which also includes Kraum’s Brush Soap.

The two brushes outside the set are larger. The Midi Flat Brush ($42) uses synthetic bristles and is designed for cream and liquid formulas, while the Eye Shaper Brush ($50) uses natural goat hair and is made for powders. Kraum also sells the Brush Soap separately.

How Do You Care for Kraum Brushes?

A good makeup brush can last for decades—and Kraum says that, with proper care, its brushes can potentially last a lifetime. The biggest thing is keeping water away from the ferrule—i.e., the technical term for where the bristles meet the handle. Instead of submerging the brush, wet and wash only the bristles, then rinse with them pointed downward.

Kraum recommends cleaning the brushes regularly with its conditioning Brush Soap; for brushes you reach for frequently, a weekly wash is a good rule of thumb. Afterward, gently reshape the bristles and lay the brush horizontally to dry with the head hanging over the edge of a counter. It’s a little more particular than tossing them in a cup to dry, but for brushes you could theoretically own forever, I’d say it’s worth the extra minute.

How Well Do the Kraum Brushes Apply Makeup?

I’m a smokey eye girl through and through. I do some version of one pretty much every single day, so I know exactly where I want my shadow to sit and the shape I’m trying to create. I started with the larger Eye Shaper Brush to lay down the base layers of my smokey eye, then moved on to the Micro eye brushes for the detail work.

The Micro Taper Brush made blending my liner into a soft wing ridiculously easy. If I wanted the end a little pointier, I went in with the Micro Angle Brush to sharpen it up. Then I took the Micro Swab Brush along my lower lash line, where its tiny size let me really push the shadow into my lash line rather than accidentally dragging the color too far down. I wasn’t suddenly doing a different eye look with these brushes; I was just getting to the exact shape I wanted faster, without having to clean up or correct as much along the way. My smokey eye still looked like my smokey eye—I just got it right on the first try instead of correcting my wing ten times.

Are Kraum Brushes Worth It?

Kraum brushes are certainly pricier than what you’ll find at the drugstore, but considering how they’re made, I actually don’t think the prices are crazy. They’re made to last for decades—and potentially a lifetime with proper care—and I noticed a real difference in how easily I could do the makeup I wear every day. The Micro brushes, especially, made the annoying little parts of my makeup routine, like getting my wing exactly right, noticeably easier. And I have to give the brand design its flowers: everything from the cream-and-black handles to the packaging is just so freaking chic. I’m more than happy to leave these sitting out on my vanity for everyone to see.

​In addition to the complex, the hydration mesh pulls its weight too thanks to a few key ingredients. “We used a specialized form of hyaluronic acid that is designed to cling particularly well to the lip surface, helping it hold onto water and reinforce that smooth, cushioned feel,” Mee says. “That is important not only for comfort, but also because well-hydrated lips look smoother, less lined, and naturally fuller.” Tack on a lipid and botanical complex with pomegranate flower bioactives as well as a sesame-derived technology, with the former helping strengthen the lip barrier to keep moisture from escaping, and the latter supporting the natural cushioning that helps give lips their fullness, and you have a lip-loving ecosystem that supports visibly plump lips from a full, 360-degree approach.

In short, you get all the benefits of a hydrated, fuller-looking pout without the sting of a traditional lip plumper or the pain of getting filler. In short, I am deeply obsessed with how this formula feels. As you can see above, the treatment perfectly straddles the line between a traditional lip gloss and a balm: shiny but not too slippery and endlessly hydrating, which makes it the perfect companion for the upcoming winter months. It also has a sheer pink tint that may show up a little more on very fair skin tones. I possess a handful of beauty fears. Purple blush? Terrifying. Red eyeshadow? Not going to happen. Brown lipstick? Historically, a major no-go. The brand’s Bisou Balm is a classic, and while it shouldn’t need much of an introduction, I’ll provide the gist: It’s a sheer matte lipstick-meets-balm that possesses the most otherworldly blurring powers I’ve ever experienced. Lip lines vanish with a swipe—it’s a little nutty. I obviously have the Rose Latte shade, but a little nudging from founder and makeup artist Violette herself convinced me to try the newest drop, Chocolat.

My aversion to brown lipstick isn’t unwarranted. Despite loving it on everyone else, I’ve found that most shades typically run too warm and muddy for my complexion. In short, they make me look slightly vampiric, which, despite loving Vampire Diaries and The Serpent and Wings of the Night, is not the vibe I’m going for. When I did a quick swatch of this balm, I realized it was sheer enough to let my natural lip color (which runs pretty pink) poke through—and reads more warm and rosy in its undertones. Plus, brown lipstick is a major fall 2026 makeup trend.

“It's finally a brown that feels truly effortless, but because of the feeling behind it. Chocolat is about comfort with yourself, confidence, and finding luxury in the ordinary,” Violette explains. “It’s inspired by those unhurried moments that exist purely for our own pleasure—savoring a piece of exceptional chocolate, trying on something beautiful with nowhere to go, lingering in bed a little longer just because we can. Those are the moments we feel most like ourselves.”

I never thought I would feel like myself in brown lipstick, but alas, here we are. For my full, honest review on the brown shade that’s infiltrated my makeup routine, read ahead.

Is Bisou Balm Chocolat Flattering on Fair Skin Tones?

Most brown lipsticks read a little orange or warm, which, if you have fair, cool-toned skin like me, is not the way to go. It can make my dark circles look darker, and my skin picks up a sallow, slightly sickly tone. Chocolat is the opposite. It’s a true cacao shade with hints of chestnut and mahogany that reads a bit more dusty rose in application.

I also find that because the formula is so sheer and relies more on blurring power and a subtle tint, my natural lip shade can influence the tone. It reads a bit more like a pinky brown on my lips than a true brown, and plays really nicely with my pink blush, actually making it pop more than my typical lip shades.

What Does Bisou Balm Look and Feel Like?

I can pretty much guarantee you haven’t tried a formula like this. It’s not really a balm or a lipstick, but a blend of both. It manages to be incredibly hydrating, without slip (the formula is pretty matte) courtesy of smoothing waxes and emollients. The real differentiator, though, is the blurring tech. The formula features Lapacho Tree extract, which basically blurs over lip lines and creates this airbrushed finish across the lips. It’s genuinely such a visible difference—the product almost floats on top of the creases. I prefer a subtle dab, but you can definitely layer it up to a fuller coverage formula.

Is Bisou Balm In Chocolat Worth It?

If you had told me a month ago that I’d be reaching for a brown lipstick as my go-to color, I would have laughed at the mere thought of it. To me, brown never felt like a wearable shade for my skin tone. It lived in that unrealistic, editorial category of beauty products that never infiltrated my everyday makeup bag. But turning me into a convert was shockingly easy.

It’s the first brown that doesn’t feel like it’s a constant war with my skin tone. It’s shockingly natural on the lips and made me reassess brown as a shade that can be a neutral—not a statement color. Dare I say I’ve conquered my fear? Maybe I should try black eyeshadow next.

I’ll get into all the nitty-gritty details below, but here’s the gist: These sticks don’t just have the necessary markers of an exceptional blush formula like a gorgeous pigment and long-lasting wear; they actually have a blurring, diffusing finish that I’ve yet to experience with a blush product. I’ve been wearing the shade Werk, a dusty rose, over my Westman Atelier Bio Supreme foundation, and I swear my pores look invisible. As an added bonus? I can swipe it on my lips and my makeup meshes beautifully together.

How Many Shades Are There of the Milk Makeup Lip + Cheek Cream Blush Stick?

For starters, there are 16 shades: eight are matte, and eight are satin. I’ve had the luxury of trying just about every single one—the selection really excels at targeting cooler undertones and the berry range that’s poised to be one of fall’s biggest makeup trends. I’m loyal to my pinky-peaches (always have been, always will be), so I’ve been using Werk, a dusty rose, and Perk, a coral with shimmer, most frequently. Although I have to give an honorable mention to Ether, a rich berry. Even though it’s a bit outside of my comfort zone, it’s pretty tame, easily diffused, and shockingly natural on my fair skin.

What Does the Milk Makeup Lip + Cheek Cream Blush Stick Look Like On the Skin?

Regardless of whether you reach for a matte or a satin, the formula itself is nearly the same. It’s packed with hyaluronic acid and ceramides, which give it a very hydrating, nourishing slip, as well as pomegranate flower and jojoba seed oil, which are ideal for creating smooth, blendable finish. The real distinction between this formula and other blushes, though, is the finish—it has a blurred, almost airbrushed dry down that makes it look like I somehow have a poreless complexion. (For what it’s worth, there’s no way to actually get rid of pores; we all have ‘em.)

How Do I Apply the Milk Makeup Lip + Cheek Cream Blush?

I might be a beauty editor, but I am no makeup artist. I know a good amount of technique (working with professionals every day has its perks), but I feel the most comfortable with some good old-fashioned finger application. After applying my foundation with a sponge, I go in with about three dots of the Milk Makeup blush stick on the high points of my face, and an additional one on my nose. I blend ‘em out with my fingertips and typically go in for a second layer for added pigment. It blends out beyond easily—there are never any streaks or harsh lines. The depth of the color is ideal; it’s not so intense that I look like I have blush blindness, but it’s 100 percent visible.

To finish it off, I use the stick on my lips, too. It’s a no-brainer afterthought. It leaves me with a blurred pinch of color that perfectly matches my blush. Then, because the stick is so compact and easy to use, I toss it in my bag and call it a day.

Is the Milk Makeup Lip + Cheek Cream Blush Worth It?

I’m the queen of justifying beauty purchases, but this really is a no-brainer. The majority of my go-to formulas err on the luxury end of the spectrum, but this Milk Makeup product is pretty reasonable at $28, and comes with a formula that feels just as luxe. I've been gravitating towards the satin finishes, which I think I’ll appreciate even more as my skin starts to dry out in the fall and winter, but picking between the two finishes is a matter of personal preference. How Do I Use Drugstore Lip Liner?

“If you want a blurred, soft look, line your lips and smudge the edges softly inward,” Luna says. “Prefer a higher contrast? Work slowly on application and clean up the line at the end with micellar water and a little concealer or foundation.”

​Quinn’s preferred liner technique? There are very few beauty products I’m loyal to. It’s an occupational hazard: I test an absurd amount of foundation, eyeshadow, concealer, bronzer, and so on and so forth for work, so even the products I really love usually get replaced by something new. YSL’s Loveshine Lip Oil Stick in #44 Nude Lavallière is the exception. I’ve worn the same pinky-nude shade nearly every day for more than two years, and despite the frankly ridiculous amount of makeup I’ve tried in that time, nothing has managed to knock it out of my bag.

So when I found out #44 was one of six shades in YSL Beauty’s new Make Me Blush Cream Blush, I was immediately intrigued. YSL had already brought Nude Lavallière into its Make Me Blush powder lineup, but I’m much more of a cream blush person, so this was the iteration I was most curious about. And while #44 was obviously the first shade I reached for, the launch goes well beyond my personal favorite.

I wanted to see what the $46 formula was actually like once it hit skin. Did it blend as easily as I wanted it to? Would that glossy-looking finish turn greasy by midday? And, more importantly, was the formula good enough that I’d want to keep reaching for it even without my #44 bias? After wearing it, layering it, and trying multiple shades, I have thoughts.

How Many YSL Make Me Blush Shades Are Available?

If you’re already familiar with YSL’s Make Me Blush powder, you’ll notice there are fewer cream shades to choose from. The powder currently comes in 15 colors, while the Make Me Blush Cream launches with six. Three are familiar: #23 Hot Mauve, #37 Peachy Nude, and, of course, #44 Nude Lavallière all have powder counterparts. The other half of the lineup is new to the range.

There’s enough variation that the six don’t feel like slightly different versions of the same pink, either. #86 Raspberry Glaze is a richer berry with more punch, while #65 Strawberry Seduction has the most depth of the bunch and would be my pick for deeper skin tones. #90 Toffee Temptation is the outlier: on my light-to-medium skin tone, the mid-tone brown works more like a bronzer than a blush. Nude Lavallière is obviously still the color I reach for first, but I like that YSL didn’t just recreate six shades from the powder range in cream.

What Is the YSL Make Me Blush Application and Finish Like?

I was genuinely impressed by how pigmented this is. The first time I used it, I picked up what I thought was a completely normal amount and immediately went, oh wow, that is a lot of blush. Honestly, I loved that. So many cream formulas lately are incredibly sheer, and sometimes I don’t want to keep going back into the pan just to get the color to show up. With this one, a little actually goes a long way. I use a stippling brush, tap in lightly, and I’m pretty much set.

The best part is that the payoff doesn’t make the finish look heavy. Once I blend it out, the color still looks fresh and natural on my skin, with a little glow but nothing slick or overly glossy. It melts into my base really nicely, too, so you get that stronger pigment without losing the softness I want from a cream blush. The only adjustment I had to make was realizing I needed way less product than I’m used to using.

What Are the YSL Make Me Blush Ingredients?

The formula leans heavily on silicones and emollients, which makes sense once you feel how smooth and creamy it is on the skin. YSL also added rosehip fruit extract sourced from its community gardens in Morocco, which the brand uses here as a skin-conditioning ingredient. I wouldn’t buy a blush based on skincare claims alone, but I do like that the formula feels comfortable and never overly dry on my cheeks. It also doesn’t list any added fragrance, which is always a plus for me with face makeup.

Is the YSL Make Me Blush Worth It?

I came into this launch excited about #44, but the formula is what ultimately sold me on the blush as a whole. It has the kind of pigment I’ve been missing from a lot of cream blushes lately, yet it still blends down into something that looks soft and natural on my skin. I also love that I don’t have to layer and layer to get there—a tiny amount really does the job.

At $46, it’s definitely a luxury blush, and I do wish the cream range were closer in size to the powder lineup. I’ll absolutely dab into some of the other shades depending on the look I’m going for, but Nude Lavallière will probably always be somewhere in the mix. I'm a creature of habit; what can I say?

As Marie Claire’s resident Sensitive Skin Beauty Editor, it only felt appropriate to be the designated tester for Tower 28’s newest launch: Swipe Serum Foundation. Here's the thing about Tower 28: the entire brand is dedicated to making formulas that are suitable for easily irritated or acne-prone skin. As someone who is either dealing with a rosacea flare, perioral dermatitis, or eczema at any given point in time, my ears immediately perked up when I got wind of this drop.

Foundations are a tricky category. There are a grand total of three formulas I can use without sending my skin into a spiral (Chanel Sublimage L’Essence D’Tiente, Westman Atelier Supreme Bio Complex Foundation, and Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Filter for inquiring minds), so the chance to add another to my repertoire is incredibly exciting. “This product is the embodiment of why I started Tower 28. It’s the confidence you need and the coverage you want, whether you have eczema like me or acne like my teenage daughter,” says founder and CEO Amy Liu. Basically, it’s supposed to be the key to making skin look better without worrying about making it worse in the process. Sensitive skin girls get it.

That in mind, I set out to risk my good skin streak for the sake of being a makeup guinea pig. My honest review on this new launch—along with before-and-after photos—ahead.

What Makes Tower28’s Swipe Serum Foundation Different?

Tower28 is always going to do the legwork. Not only is this formula derm-approved, non-comedogenic, and made with triple-filtered water, but it also got a 94 percent stamp of approval in a clinical study. These participants—all of whom had sensitive skin—said it didn’t break them out after one week of wear. The key lies in the formulation.

Obviously, it’s made without the risky ingredients like oils and shea butter, but it’s just as important to note what’s in this foundation. The hero ingredient, porulaca extract, is respected as an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial ingredient, which makes it uniquely suited for eczema-prone and acne-prone skin types. There’s also fermented oat, which helps restore and strengthen the skin barrier, as well as lactobacillus ferment, which soothes the skin and protects against environmental stressors.

As for the coverage? This foundation delivers a natural finish and is truly buildable. One pump applied with the hands is more of a skin tint situation, but if you put two pumps on a brush, it will show up much more like a traditional medium-coverage foundation.

How Do I Apply Tower28’s Swipe Serum Foundation?

Like most serum foundations, I find the texture to be on the wetter side. That comes with pros and cons. On the one hand, it sinks into the skin so naturally and never looks like I’m wearing caked-on makeup, but it can also veer into greasy territory really quickly. I find that applying it with my fingers amps up the wet look (which is great if you’re going for a glass skin vibe), but I personally enjoy the finish that comes along with a beauty blender. It’s still glowy, but with a little powder, it tones it down just enough that I don’t feel overly shiny. If you’re looking for fuller coverage, try applying the foundation with the brand new brush that launched in tandem with the foundation.

How Does Tower28’s Swipe Serum Foundation Wear Throughout the Day?

The foundation promises 16-hour wear, and while I never plan on keeping it on that long, I can confirm it stays looking fresh-ish for up to 12. It didn’t separate at all and really meshed with my existing skincare, looking like an extension of my actual skin texture.

Because it’s deeply hydrating and has a serum base, I found that I needed to powder a bit throughout the day to minimize excess shine (I also run a bit oily in the summer, though) and noticed that the product lifted around my nose by mid-day—probably from brushing my hand across the bridge.

Is Tower28’s Swipe Serum Foundation Worth It?

In a beauty landscape where luxury foundations are running $70+, a $36 serum foundation feels pretty well priced. And to be totally honest, it feels and looks on par with my luxury options. But the real test when it comes to this product was whether or not it would send me and one of my many skin conditions into a flare. Now that I’ve been wearing this for a week, I can confidently say that my skin is cooperating. I have no perioral dermatitis. My eczema is stable. And save for the one cyst pimple on my chin (it’s that time of the month), I haven’t been experiencing any extra breakouts.

Because I only rotate between three foundations, I’m overjoyed to have another formula and finish to play with. It feels lighter and more natural than my other go-tos, which makes it perfect for seeing me through the end of summer and into fall.

I won’t lie: One of the coolest parts of my job is getting to interview some incredible people. All of my nonchalance evaporated as soon as Tracee Ellis Ross appeared on my screen via Zoom. Not only did the actress look as phenomenal as she does on my TV, but she also had the most snatched ponytail I’ve ever seen. It was fitting, given that we were there to discuss the launch of Pattern Beauty’s new heat styling products.

​The multi-product launch includes the brand’s first-ever vibrating flat iron, which, the brand says, allows for fewer passes to get the look that you desire. Alongside the tool is the blowout primer, a lightweight heat-protecting cream that preps, detangles, and softens the hair post-wash to set the stage for a seamless silk press. The final piece of the collection is a detoxifying shampoo. Perfect for removing product buildup or simply giving your hair a reset, it’s fantastic for setting the foundation for any post-wash hairstyle.

​Ross and I were able to chat about all things Pattern Beauty, skincare, hair care, and more during our recent sit-down, and I have to say: She is one of the wisest people I have ever met. I don’t know that I have a mantra that steps me into my feminine power. I think my power is just part of who I am as a human, and it’s a power that we all have. My mantra really is ‘thank you for this day and what’s ahead.’ It’s about a sense of gratitude and right-sizing.

I'll be honest, Pattern Body is all in my shower. I feel my best when the skin that I'm in feels hydrated and smooth. I guess the specific product that helps me create that vibe is the Dry Exfoliating Body Scrub. I love that it just sloughs off dead skin and leaves me feeling pillowy soft.

I just discovered this incredible new deodorant. There’s no aluminum, and it’s not an antiperspirant. The brand is called To My Ships, and the scent is Marjoram. It smells beautiful and feels so nice when it goes on. It’s incredible.

Haley Alexander van Oosten has a brand called L'Oeil Du Vert, and I’ve been wearing scents from the house for about 20 years. There are some special formulations that she makes just for me, but she also has others in the line that I adore. Nomad and Peacock Tail, in particular, feel like I’m pouring diamonds on my body.

My go-to is no makeup. My favorite look is fresh skin and a nice, hydrated lip. I love my skin, and I personally have no interest in hiding who I am or covering it up. Maybe by, like, the third or fourth date I’ll do a bit of black liner or my classic red lip, but otherwise, I keep it extremely minimal.

I have three looks. My ‘70s porn hair, which is big, bouncy curls with a ¾ inch barrel. The second will be my slicked-back bun, just because it's how I like to wear my hair and you can see my face. There's no hiding. The third is just my normal morning hair. I sleep with a pineapple in, and when I wake up, my hair is always just big, bouncy, and tousled.

I love an elegant almond shape, but I’m such a plain nail-color girl. Sometimes I’ll do a red nail in the fall, but I usually keep it neutral with a color that looks close to my natural nail.

Full regimen. I wear contact lenses, so I have to take them out. Then, there's no way I'm going to bed without brushing my teeth. So I’m already in the bathroom; I might as well just do the whole thing. I'm 53. I don't look like this by accident. I take really good care of my skin.

Just more of my face. I don't know about this neck, but my face is great, so it's all good.

I was diagnosed with chronic dry eye when I was 20. That meant bloodshot eyes, constant watering, a scratchy texture, and a heck of a lot of difficulty finding an eyeliner that didn’t cause insane irritation. “Some people may experience allergic reactions, manifesting as eyelid swelling, watery eyes, and itching, while continuous use can also lead to eye irritation and dryness,” explains board-certified optometrist Dr. Inna Lazar. “These symptoms can range from mild to severe, including redness and inflammation, itching paired with a burning sensation, watery or teary eyes, swelling of the eyelids and the under-eye area, dryness and flakiness, sensitivity to light, and blurred vision.” With a little Restasis (Jennifer Aniston is on it, too!) and a lot of trial and error, I’ve been able to find the best eyeliners for sensitive eyes on the market.

A decent number of them have been on shelves for a hot minute (shoutout: Tower28 and Victoria Beckham), but many of my favorite products are new releases; I’m obsessed with Ilia’s new ThruLine Eyeliner and Kosas’s SoulGazer Gel Eyeliner. The common throughline through them all? All of them have been ophthalmologist-tested, are hypoallergenic, fragrance-free, and are long-wear but not waterproof, a common irritant for sensitive eyes. What Should I Look for in an Eyeliner for Sensitive Eyes?

First and foremost, look for a hypoallergenic formula that has been tested by or developed with an ophthalmologist. Markers that explicitly state it’s safe for sensitive eyes are a huge pro, as are formulas that avoid the following ingredients:

• Benzalkonium chloride (BAK)
• Argireline (Acetyl Hexapeptide-3 or Acetyl Hexapeptide-8)
• Formaldehyde-releasing compounds
• Fragrance
• Isopropyl cloprostenate
• Parabens

Can I Put Eyeliner in My Waterline if I Have Sensitive Eyes?

I’ll be honest—it’s not the best idea. It’s the fastest path to irritation. "It occludes the openings of the meibomian glands,” says board-certified New Jersey-based ophthalmologist Diane Hilal-Campo, MD. “This prevents the oils from being released into the tear film. This will cause the patients' eyes to be dry.” If you are going to put eyeliner in your waterline, she recommends looking for matte formulas, as sparkly ones often contain ingredients that can harm the delicate area.

Let’s get one thing straight: I am a Danessa Myricks Beauty obsessive. I’m talking before the brand was named one of the most innovative companies in the United States; I had a full collection of highlighters, eye, lip, and cheek colors, and even cream bronzers. At this point, I’m an expert on the brand. So trust me when I say that this new launch is going to be worth all the hype.

​Launching on Sephora.com and danessamyricksbeauty.com on August 21st, and in Sephora stores on September 2nd, the Glosswork 4D Ultra Shine Plumping Lip Gloss is the latest addition to the brand’s lineup and, according to the founder, Danessa Myricks, something the industry was missing.

​“When I looked at the lip category, I felt there was a gap between ‘treatment’ and makeup performance,” Myricks exclusively tells Marie Claire. "You could find products that looked beautiful but didn’t really care for your lips, or products that treated your lips but didn’t deliver the kind of shine, impact, and wear I wanted as an artist. Glosswork was created to bridge those worlds.” The point, she says, is a formula that delivers instant gratification—a plush, ultra-glossy finish and fuller-looking lips— but also conditions the lips over time. “It reflects how I think about makeup as a whole,” Myricks says. “It should be expressive, high-performing, and good for you all at once.”

​I’ve been playing around with the new glosses fo a while now, and I have to say: Danessa Myricks Beauty has another hit on its hands. Whether you’re a lip product obsessive like I am or are simply on the prowl for a new product to add to your makeup routine, keep reading to see why the new Glosswork 4D Ultra Shine Plumping Lip Glosses have me so enamored.

What Do the Danessa Myricks Glosswork 4D Ultra Shine Plumping Lip Gloss Feel Like?

As Myricks hinted at earlier, the glosses are a cross between a treatment and a traditional lip gloss. I find them to have some tack, but they aren’t necessarily sticky, just thicker than the average gloss on the market today. That being said, these lip glosses are also extremely pigmented, so I personally don’t go in with a ton of product, just enough to get some color on my lips and properly blend it into my lip liner.

I have found that if I add three or more layers to the lips (which, objectively, is a ton of product, but I had to do it for science), then the formula is more on the sticky side of the spectrum. I personally like to use these products in place of lipstick regularly, so I’ll do a liner, the Glosswork lip gloss, and then I’ll add a layer of clear gloss on top for that extra shine. If I use it on top of an already pigmented lip combination (lip liner, two or more lipsticks, etc), I dab just a bit in the middle of my lips to top everything off.

I find the wear to be extremely comfortable in both instances, and they stay on for hours. After I eat or drink I do typically need to reapply, but I will say that the product only comes off toward the inner parts of my lips. The outer layers stayed fully intact, which was a welcome surprise.

What Ingredients Are In the Danessa Myricks Glosswork 4D Ultra Shine Plumping Lip Gloss Formulas? ​

Danessa Myricks Beauty is one of the brands that really takes pride in ingredient innovation. So while you’ll find your standard emollients and moisturizers in this formula, you can also expect a few more unusual ingredients as well. “At the heart of the formula is our 4D Cushion Wrap Technology, which creates this beautiful cushion-like layer of hydration while helping lips look visibly smoother, fuller, and more supple,” Myricks says. “We also included a peptide complex to support the appearance of plumper lips over time, along with hydrating ingredients like wakame algae extract that help lock in hydration over time.”

​According to the brand, independent clinical results show that the lip gloss maintains hydration for up to 12 hours. So in tandem, expect all of these skin-loving ingredients to help your pout actually look and feel better over time. “For me, the biggest innovation isn’t one ingredient; it’s the way they all work together,” Myricks says. “I can feel the difference as soon as I put it on. From the way the formula literally hugs the lips to that cushiony feel that stays even after it’s worn off.”

Is the Danessa Myricks Glosswork 4D Ultra Shine Plumping Lip Gloss Line Worth It?

Yes. A million times, yes. At less than $30, the Glosswork 4D Ultra Shine Plumping Lip Gloss is more than worth the investment, especially if you want a do-it-all product that you can just throw into your purse on the go. There are 14 shades in the line (two are exclusive to Danessamyricksbeauty.com: Strawberry Whip and Hot Girl Peach), including a traditional clear shade, which is perfect for someone who prefers a more minimal beauty aesthetic or just wants the benefits of the formula without having to choose a color.
