I obviously don't know this from experience, but after a few hours spent on a red carpet, I'd imagine some celebrities might need a snack break every so often. That has to explain why Doja Cat attended the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards in full '80s glam and proceeded to eat (yes, actually eat) the bright red lipstick she was wearing.

The rapper/singer is gearing up to release her '80s-inspired fifth studio album, Vie, and for the last several weeks as she's been promoting it, she's been in full character, wearing everything from a platinum blonde mullet to last night's look, a voluminous, creamy blonde blowout with feathery bangs. She brought the whole look together with thin eyebrows, bright nails, and a deep red lip.

While doing press on the red carpet, Doja Cat decided to give her lipstick a little touch up—but she wouldn't be Doja Cat if she had just let the moment end there. She took things a step further and took a bite out of the lipstick (and swallowed it!) in front of the cameras.

Thankfully, Doja Cat wasn't eating the lipstick because she was in desperate need of a snack—it was actually a stunt to draw attention to the fact that she's recently been named an ambassador for MAC Cosmetics, and she was wearing the brand's MACximal Silky Matte Lipstick in the shade "Lady Danger."

“I’ve been a MAC girl forever, and now I get to take that love to the global stage,” she said in a statement. “Makeup is my paint, my armor, my way of creating characters—and MAC has always stood for that kind of artistry and freedom. We’re going to push it even further and make people see beauty in a whole new way.” In the same statement, MAC also revealed that the lipstick was actually an edible chocolate replica of "Lady Danger" made by pastry chef Amaury Guichon, which is great news for me, since I was horrified at the thought of how a waxy lipstick would've settled in her stomach if she actually ate the real thing.

This is The Close-Up, where the biggest names in entertainment explain the story behind their latest personal style statement.

On the Netflix honky-tonk thriller The Hunting Wives, Brittany Snow's character doesn't have much time to think about her outfits. She plays Sophie, a Boston mom thrown into the heart of a deep Texas social circle. Her Birkenstocks and sensible shirts stand out among a sea of Tecovas cowboy boots and extra-large belt buckles.

Sophie ends up a little too preoccupied with solving a murder within her newfound frenemy group to think about what she's wearing. Snow, on the other hand, wouldn't have minded a yeehaw makeover montage.

"I think throughout the entire show, I was pretty jealous of the other girls getting to wear those Texas numbers," Snow tells me as she's getting ready for the 2025 MTV VMAs red carpet. "I always looking at the girls every day being like, oh my God, how fun to wear such loud, brash outfits."

For her first time attending the VMAs, Snow and her stylist, Yael Quint, decided it was the right moment to embrace the series' over-the-top styling.

"We wanted her look to be classic and timeless," Quint says in an email. On the phone, Snow describes her custom Monot dress as "'90s glam, but a little more spicy and sexy." The gilded strapless dress coated in gold is her ode to her show's Texas setting, as well as her character's on-screen entanglement with the girl group's ringleader, Margo, played by Malin Akerman.

A few days before the VMAs, Snow and Quint were choosing between two sequin dresses: the gold one she ultimately picked, or a pink option by another designer. Then Akerman showed Snow her silver gown by Raissa Vanessa, and it was decided. "We thought to ourselves, it has to be the gold one because it's just gonna look so fun that we're playing off of each other," Snow explains, "not only on the show, but on the carpet."

There aren't many chances to do that with your friends, and I think that's why we chose this one," Snow says of coordinating with Akerman. "It's also the better look, I think." Quint amped up its glam quotient with Betzabe heels and Dorsey earrings sourced from the jewelry brand's new collection.

The 2025 VMAs would be Snow and Akerman's second consecutive event together that weekend. They had both attended the Creative Arts Emmy Awards in Los Angeles the night before, in contrasting dresses: Snow in a mint green, scallop-neckline sheath, and Akerman in a gold-and-black two-piece.

Jetting from coast to coast as a team made the whole weekend more invigorating than exhausting for Snow. In real life, their friendship is much healthier than their on-screen counterparts. "Thank goodness Malin was with me, because we sort of made it fun," she says. "I brought these Korean face masks we did on the plane. We had glasses of champagne, and we were debriefing the Creative Emmys we presented at, and we were excited for the VMAs. That just made it so much smoother, because we haven't actually been in the same place in a while."

Snow and Ackerman's chemistry led to attention on and off the red carpet this summer. The Hunting Wives had the highest streaming time of any series during its premiere week, per The Hollywood Reporter. Still, Snow admits she "didn't think anyone would even see it." Its debut in July also didn't include a dedicated red carpet. So, while the VMAs gave Snow a front-row seat to major performances (like Sabrina Carpenter's) and her childhood favorites (like Ricky Martin), it was also her moment to celebrate a project she hadn't yet had a chance to toast.

Her summary of the getting-ready process could be a synopsis of The Hunting Wives' highly anticipated second season. "There's lots of gold, there's lots of secrets, there's lots of hair," Snow says. "It does feel very Texas in here."

ICYMI: The 2025 MTV Video Music Awards took place on Sunday, Sept. 7, and as expected, the celebrities in attendance pulled out some of their very best looks for the red carpet and ceremony. At an award show like the VMAs, one would expect for the fashion to be the only thing that's over the top, and while that was definitely proven true for last night's event, the beauty looks before and during the show were also worthy of their own awards.

Last night's red carpet was ripe with beauty moments that'll bring you to your knees, from the slickest of slick ponytails to classic French manicures. The Marie Claire beauty team was particularly fawning over FKA Twigs's braided headphones hairstyle while the rest of the internet was obsessed with Doja Cat's '80s-style blowout. But there's plenty (and I do mean plenty) more where that came from.

Doja Cat hasn't been subtle at all about the direction she's taking with her next era of music. Before hitting the stage to perform her new single, "Jealous Type," the rapper/singer showed up on the red carpet with her hair styled in a voluminous, curly, '80s-style blowout with feathered bangs. She brought the whole look home with a bright red lip and red nail polish.

FKA Twigs

Never one to not stun on a red carpet, FKA Twigs showed up wearing a jaw-dropping braided hairstyle that featured cornrows woven into an updo meant to look like a set of headphones. A true hair as art moment!

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga took a short break from her Mayhem Ball tour to accept the Moon Man for "Artist of the Year" last night. She showed up in gothic glam, as her jet black hair was pulled into a messy updo with blunt bangs. She wore a deep red lip color and accessorized by adding blood red flower clips to her hair.

Sabrina Carpenter

Sabrina Carpenter hit the red carpet in a custom, lace Valentino naked dress, but it was her nails that I couldn't keep my eyes off of. The "Manchild" singer wore her signature French manicure style with an almond shape, but instead of traditional white tips, she went all out with colorful rhinestones.

Ariana Grande

Speaking of French manicures, Ariana Grande kept her nails traditional with an almond shape, a nude base, and classic white tips.

Ciara

Ciara kept things pretty simple, styling her hair in a long ponytail that's so slick, it deserves some applause.

Tyla

Tyla proved once again that the blunt bob isn't going anywhere. The "Push 2 Start" singer showed up with her hair cut into an asymmetrical blunt bob with two cornrows on the right side to mimic a side part.

After a recent stint with micro braids, Justine Skye switched things up and wore her honey blonde hair in its naturally curly state on Sunday night. She also wore bleached brows, a '90s supermodel lip complete with dark liner and lip gloss, and smokey, black eye makeup.

Again—celebrities couldn't get enough of the updos last night! Singer Shenseea appeared on the red carpet with her golden brown hair styled in a high updo with tight curls. She completed the look with a piecey side bang that was also curled.

For me, the 2025 MTV VMAs ended once Ariana Grande accepted the final Moon Person trophy. I needed my beauty sleep: Sabrina Carpenter's Bob Mackie after-party look required my attention this morning. For celebrity guests, on the other hand, the night was still young.

The VIP section inside New York's UBS Arena went from star-studded to vacant in mere minutes. Cars waited outside the Long Island venue to usher Carpenter, Ice Spice, Tate McRae, and more to various after-parties. The evening's hottest ticket was undeniably Carpenter's Studio54-themed bash. The "Espresso" singer's risqué aesthetic incited stars to style lingerie-as-outerwear, starting with Ice Spice.

The "Deli" rapper was photographed outside the Crane Club in Chelsea, wearing the bloomer trend and a coordinating corset. McRae arrived shortly after Ice Spice in her own Carpenter-coded underwear. She layered a halter-neck two-piece underneath a mesh bodysuit. It was entirely sheer, except for hot pants and a criss-cross wrap. Turns out, Ludovic de Saint Sernin was behind the set, marking their first move as McRae's creative directors.

In true award season fashion, Carpenter's event wasn't the only after-hours affair in the city. Ahead, Marie Claire rolled out the red carpet for the best lingerie-inspired after-party looks following the 2025 MTV VMAs.

Sabrina Carpenter

Sabrina Carpenter's Studio54-ready dress deserved its own 400-word thesis, but I'll applaud it here, too. The hostest-with-the-mostest got her hands on an almost 50-year-old Bob Mackie bodysuit, fringed with grosgrain ribbons and mirrored discs.

Cher debuted the halter-neck design during a 1975 The Cher Show episode, alongside Tina Turner, no less. Both icons sang "Shame Shame Shame" in halter-neck bodysuits, which shimmered just as much as any disco ball.

Cardi B

The "I Like It" rapper was noticeably absent from the ceremony's red carpet. Turns out, she saved her underwear-as-outerwear for the after-hours scene. Stylist Kollin Carter dressed Cardi B in a leopard-print long-sleeve dress with a plunging neckline. Its hip-high slit revealed her saucy stockings, which stopped just above each knee.

Ice Spice

Ice Spice was in a corset-y mood this MTV VMAs. For the Sabrina54 soirée, she ditched her vintage Ralph Lauren set for another two-piece, this time in lavender. (You can thank her new stylist, Timothy Luke Garcia, for both throwback numbers.) Her strapless top had all the makings of a classic bustier, plus an outstretched neckline. A thin, monochromatic belt cinched her waist.

To finish, ruched bloomer shorts peeked out from underneath the corset. It embodied the pajama side of lingerie dressing.

Tate McRae

You might've expected McRae to head straight home after her choreographed performance of "Sports Car." Instead, she hit up Carpenter's party in a sheer turtleneck and matching tights, curated by stylists Chloe and Chenelle Delgadillo. A criss-cross wrap top and hot pants acted as her only opaque pieces.

A few days later, Ludovic de Saint Sernin and his image director, Ignacio Muñoz, shared the creative director news on Instagram. According to their now-viral post, they met McRae last July "as she was looking to enter a new chapter in her career creatively." The French label created her sheer red carpet gown, her white performance look, as well as her after-party attire.

Olandria Carthen

The Love Island USA Season 7 star proved she's one to watch on the fashion front, too. Before a Chez Margaux get-together in the Meatpacking district, photographers captured Olandria Carthen's black lingerie dress in all its rhinestone-embellished glory.

It was partially transparent to match her over-the-knee stockings, also in black. Once again, she worked with styling duo Matthew and Reginald Reisman—the same team behind her Cheney Chan red carpet gown.

Rosalía

Similar to Cardi B, Rosalía joined the VMAs festivities once the ceremony ended. She met up with Ice Spice and McRae at Sabrina54 in stark white lingerie, which peeked through her chainmail long-sleeve mini.

The 2025 MTV VMAs were every bit The Sabrina Show. Sabrina Carpenter went viral a handful of times last night: first for her Valentino-clad red carpet walk, then for singing in the rain à la Britney Spears.

The Sabrina Show stretched to the after-party circuit, too. Once the lights lifted inside New York's UBS Arena, celebrities boogied to Refuge NYC in Brooklyn. A disco-dressed Carpenter awaited the arrivals of Tate McRae, Ice Spice, and more for Sabrina54, a Gen Z-ified take on the iconic '70s club, Studio54. The drag queens from Carpenter's "Tears" performance also RSVP-ed yes to the retro-looking bash. RuPaul's Drag Race Season 4 contestant, Willam, shared a sneak peek at Carpenter's soirée, plus her on-theme outfit.

The evening's host looked straight out of the infamous venue in circa-1975 Bob Mackie. Originally, Mackie had created the halter-neck bodysuit for Cher's The Cher Show performance with Tina Turner. It looked good as new on Carpenter, from fringed pink and blue panels to cascading mirror appliqués. Tens of circular mirrors covered the entire almost 50-year-old design.

Carpenter and stylist Jared Ellner have always fancied a vintage find, whether it be Chantal Thomass lingerie or Karl Lagerfeld-era Chanel. For the 2024 VMAs red carpet, they sourced one of Madonna's vintage sequin Bob Mackie dresses in a special homage. But wearing Cher's exact Bob Mackie? That's a sartorial feat worthy of an honorary Moon Person. You may recognize Carpenter's disco-ready dress from a The Cher Show highlight: Cher and Turner's "Shame Shame Shame" duet, which premiered in April 1975.

Both icons wore custom Bob Mackie one-pieces, lined with grosgrain ribbons and mirrored discs. The asymmetrical car wash skirts electrified the already-dynamic performance, revealing their legs with each twirl.

Fast forward to 2018, and Cher and Turner's bodysuits-turned-dresses appeared at a Beverly Hills auction, which spotlighted custom designs from the '70s and beyond. After 11 bids, Cher's Bob Mackie sold for $6,400, in all its disco ball-ish glory. Turner's slightly shorter style retailed for $8,960, following just four bids.

At just 26 years old, Carpenter is cementing herself as one of my generation's greats. Her red carpet fashion is always memorable—as evidenced by her stellar homage to Cher. If you add her singing, dancing, and songwriting skills to the mix, she's a coupé away from icon status.

Sabrina Carpenter's fans are sufficiently spoiled. After releasing two albums back-to-back, she returned to the 2025 MTV VMAs—not just on the red carpet, but for a center-stage performance, too.

Stylist Jared Ellner had his work cut out for him. Sabrina Carpenter required not one, but two designer looks this evening. Since the Grammy winner arrived at New York's UBS Arena an hour before showtime, she had plenty of time to swap her custom Valentino naked dress for an on-theme costume.

Carpenter synced her performance grand entrance to the first strings chord in "Tears." The second Man's Best Friend record went viral for its '80s disco-inspired instrumentals, so Carpenter followed suit on the fashion front. She emerged out of a literal manhole wearing a long-sleeve off-the-shoulder top covered in rhinestone fringe. It mimicked the custom Victoria's Secret one-piece she wore in the "Tears" music video, which paid homage to a 2003 Naomi Campbell look.

The MTV VMAs is famously a quick-change-friendly zone (see Lady Gaga's "Applause" performance in 2013). Half-way through the disco track, Carpenter followed Gaga's lead, ditching her first fringed top for a more risqué version. An entire halter-neck bra was covered in rhinestones, stretching from balconette cups onto under-bust rhinestone drapery. She even swapped out her skirt for semi-sheer tights and underwear worn as pants.

To literalize some of her "Tears" lyrics, she channeled her inner Britney Spears under a rainstorm. The award-worthy moment reminded Marie Claire editors of Spears's "Baby One More Time" performance on her 2001 Within a Dream tour. For a quick recap: Carpenter's fellow blonde wore a strikingly similar bra and hot pants combo as rain poured down.

Carpenter's fans knew her performance would leave quite an impression. They flooded VMAs's comment section with excitement for weeks. "Oh boy, I can‘t wait to see Sabrina!" one fan wrote, obviously referencing the spoken intro of "Manchild."

Last year, Carpenter set a high bar for herself, singing "Please Please Please," "Taste," and "Espresso" in one five-minute slot. "Please Please Please" began with Carpenter suspended in mid-air, wearing a custom crystal-covered bodysuit from Victoria's Secret. Even her Christian Louboutin Mary Janes sparkled with hundreds of Swarovski rhinestones.

After a quick makeout session with an alien, Carpenter ditched a high-neck bodice, revealing her plunging sweetheart neckline. Turns out, an eye-catching pendant necklace was hidden beneath the extra fabric. Its ruby gemstone matched the kiss marks atop her tights and hips.

In 2024, Carpenter was new to the VMAs stage, having only been nominated once for "Espresso." Since then, however, her award show performances have only gotten bolder. In February 2025, she took center stage at the Grammy Awards, before winning her first trophy for Best Pop Vocal Album.

Carpenter sang "Please Please Please" and "Espresso" half-way through the broadcast, blending physical comedy and innuendos with ease. First, the spotlight found her in a sequin tuxedo dress custom-made for her by Dolce & Gabbana. It wasn't inherently saucy, but it was nostalgic—the other, more family-friendly side of Carpenter's trademark aesthetic. Similar to her VMAs performance look, she paired the costume with sparkly red-bottom Mary Janes.

Before breaking into the catchy chorus, Carpenter stripped down to a baby blue corset, also with Dolce & Gabbana tags. The pastel shade is one of her signature shades, inspired by her love of '60s-era fashion and music.

Once again, she went with a strapless bodysuit, featuring monochrome gemstones in place of boning. Looking every bit a Showgirl, she layered a feather-embellished shawl overtop. Maybe Taylor Swift will borrow it come Oct. 3.

Carpenter is collecting award-worthy performances looks like infinity stones. If I'm lucky, she'll secure an on-stage slot at the 2026 Grammys.

The MTV Video Music Awards has played host to many a historic fashion moment throughout its 41 years on the air—many at the hands of Lady Gaga.

The pop star has been attending the fabled award show since the release of her first album The Fame, which earned her the title of Best New Artist in 2009. The following year, Gaga accepted the award for Video of the Year, simultaneously debuting what many recognize as her most infamous outfit of all time: the reviled meat dress. And though her 2025 VMAs outfit wasn't nearly as shocking, it certainly will go down in her own personal hall of fame.

Though Gaga has the most nominations of any star this evening, she chose to skip the VMAs red carpet all together. This is likely because the star accidentally double-booked herself for Sunday night's show. She is also hosting a sold-out performance at New York City's Madison Square Garden the very same night.

The pop star delayed the performance an hour in order to accept her Artist of the Year award in person on the VMAs stage—and did so wearing a Marc Jacobs dress that very well could have come straight out of her Mayhem Ball wardrobe.

She wore an 1800s-inspired confection covered in black ruffles. The plumed gown—a Marc Jacobs Fall 2025 creation—was made all the more dramatic by a matching rose-topped headpiece, which sat atop her blunt bangs. The blood-red floral blooms are likewise the centerpiece of her tour wardrobe, all styled by Hunter Clem.

Lady Gaga holds a grand total of 12 Moon Person nominations this evening. Categories include: Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Album, Best Pop, Best Direction, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Choreography, and Best Visual Effects. If she secures any more, her Mayhem Ball performance very well may need to be delayed indefinitely.

The 2025 MTV VMAs are noticeably Taylor Swift-less, but her close friend, Ice Spice, is holding down the fashion fort.

Mere minutes before the red carpet circuit closed, the rapper arrived in an unexpected two-piece. Instead of competing for a Moon Person trophy, she's here to present one. Stylist Timothy Luke Garcia got his hands on Look 50 from Ralph Lauren's Spring 2003 collection for Ice Spice. The 22-year-old's skirt set looked good as new, from the Victorian era-inspired corset to the bustled maxi skirt.

Ice Spice has an eye for vintage pieces, especially from the early 2000s. Her navy patchwork skirt was Y2K personified. It blended indigo denim and plaid patches with ease, two rising trends for Fall 2025.

The cherry on top of Ice Spice's early-aughts cake was a Pamela Anderson-ish messy bun. Her signature curly afro had the night off, taken over by a peachy updo. Bangs and face-framing pieces gave her that effortless '90s flair Anderson is still known for.

Swift has attended the annual award show ten times, taking home 30 Moon Person statues since 2009. Ice Spice, on the other hand, is still a freshman. However, having a veteran like Swift in her inner circle is an award-worthy feat in itself.

The "Deli" artist made her VMAs debut in 2023, wearing custom Dolce & Gabbana. Always on board for a Y2K moment, her previous stylist helped Ice Spice pay homage to Britney Spears at the 2003 VMAs. She wore white from top to bottom, starting with a corseted little white dress, featuring tiered lace for a skirt. Both her arms and legs were covered in lace—a skintight bolero wrapped around her shoulders to fingerless gloves. Stark white tights peeked through her ankle-strap sandals.

Ice Spice's blueprint was the wedding-gown-turned-mini Spears wore on-stage with Madonna and Christina Aguilera. The trio performed Madonna's "Like a Virgin" and "Hollywood" with Spears and Aguilera dressed as brides, famously sharing kisses with a tuxedo-clad Madonna.

Similar to Ice Spice's look, Spears's bodice was corseted with a sweetheart balconette neckline. The mini skirt included peek-a-boo lace beneath the thigh-length hem. Turns out, Spears actually drew inspiration from Madonna's 1984 VMAs look: a deconstructed wedding dress.

It wouldn't be a proper Madonna tribute without a fair share of pearls. The "Toxic" singer layered various strings of pearls atop cross-shaped pendants. Fast forward 20 years, Ice Spice followed her lead with chainlink diamonds instead of pearls.

Back to Ice Spice. Perhaps her most viral moment at the 2023 VMAs happened inside New Jersey's Prudential Center. Ice Spice sat next to Swift, who'd walked the carpet mere minutes before in a black Reputation-coded Versace gown.

After winning the Best New Artist title, the 25-year-old swapped her Dolce & Gabbana for a sheer tulle gown. Interlaced silver grommets stretched from the plunging top to a sheer floor-length skirt.

This seating arrangement wasn't a kismet coincidence—Swift and Ice Spice collaborated on a "Karma" remix just five months prior. Now, the two are bona fide besties. They've met up at 2024's Coachella, the 2025 Super Bowl, and even on-stage at the Eras Tour.

What did they talk about, you ask? Ice Spice told Variety in Sept. 2023, "She’s so funny. We was sipping on a little something something. Just chatting, vibing.” In response, Swift revealed, "I relate to Ice in many ways, but I think her dedication and focus is what blew me away from the very start."

Another Ice Spice and Swift sighting would've been a highlight of the 2025 MTV VMAs red carpet. But alas, Swifties will have to wait. Who knows? Maybe there's another Kansas City Chiefs's suite with their names on it.

There are some celebrities who are constant fixtures on the red carpet, gaining their strength from the applause and camera flashes, like Tinker Bell. Stars like Doja Cat and Sabrina Carpenter fall into this category—the girlies who always show up ready and willing to serve. Then there are those who only make an appearance on a lucky occasion—celebs like Taylor Swift and Beyoncé, who have reached a level of fame so high, they only emerge from their palaces for the rarest of events.

Ariana Grande is among the few superstars who regularly skips red carpets, choosing to keep her mega-famous life as private as possible. But on September 7, the pop star made a special exception for the 2025 MTV VMAs. She walked the red carpet on Sunday night beside her beloved stylist, Law Roach. The longtime VMAs attendee made her grand entrance after five years of no-shows, showing up arm-in-arm with her outfit's curator and dressed in custom Fendi.

Grande wore a polka dot column dress with a bustier neckline and a flouncy blush peplum detail. She added a matching bow in her slicked-back ponytail—a detail that was also found on the lapel of Roach's ruby-embellished suit. Two weeks after her seventh studio album dropped, Carpenter hit the 2025 MTV VMAs red carpet (her first since the Man's Best Friend era began). The Grammy winner is up for eight nominations, including Best Album for Short n' Sweet and Video of the Year for "Manchild." So, it's only right she teamed up with Jared Ellner again, the same stylist behind the record's controversial cover.

An hour before the first Moon Person was presented, Carpenter posed for photographers in a sheer long-sleeve naked dress. As I suspected, Valentino custom-made the look just for Carpenter. It was covered in sequined ruby lace from the turtleneck to the floor-grazing hem. A nude under-bust corset peeked through the illusion mesh. Sky-high platforms, also in red, added some height to the 5'2" pop star's look. A lavender boa draped around her wrists. Red and purple is an unexpected color combination for Carpenter, given her penchant for '60s-inspired pastels. Nonetheless, it's a move applauded by Marie Claire editors.

Carpenter's gown fulfilled the sparkle quota tenfold, so she kept her jewelry to a minimum. She borrowed diamond drop earrings and a matching ring from Tiffany & Co., which peeked out occasionally. According to the label, the single sparkler on her right hand features over ten carats.

Carpenter is returning to the VMAs, both as a guest and a performer, after taking home her first Moon Person last year. ICYMI, everyone from Doechii to Taylor Swift rooted for her as she accepted the Song of the Year award for "Espresso."

She thanked her fans, family, and "cats and dogs at home watching" in a vintage Bob Mackie gown, originally worn by Madonna at the 1991 Oscars. Ellner and L.A. boutique, Tab Vintage, ensured it looked good as new, from the scalloped neckline to the tiny train. The entire strapless style was hand-beaded with pearls and crystals, hence its opalescent sheen. An over-$200,000 diamond necklace from De Beers featured the same gemstones.

Historically, the VMAs are a costume change-friendly zone—see Lady Gaga's 2013 "Applause" performance for proof. Of course Carpenter followed Gaga's lead, swapping Bob Mackie for Victoria's Secret to sing "Please Please Please," "Taste," and "Espresso."

Carpenter shined in a barely-there bodysuit among a sea of dancers-turned-astronauts. It mimicked the same color palette and curvature of her Bob Mackie gown, except with shorts in place of a skintight skirt. Always on board for a jaw-dropping moment, Carpenter made out with an alien with her kiss-covered tights on full display.

Carpenter has been on the VMAs' radar since 2022, when she released her fifth studio album, Emails I Can't Send. Sure, she wasn't nominated, but she brought her fashion A-game in a floral gown from Moschino. Carpenter's black Jennifer Behr headband was equally '60s-inspired. The cutouts along her neckline and waist added that signature Sabrina Spice I know and love her for.

In 2023, Carpenter secured another invite to the VMAs. She was working on Short n' Sweet at the time, so her saucy mood impacted her red carpet attire.

Carpenter stole the show in custom Vera Wang, complete with a peek-a-boo bustier and tulle drapery hung like bed sheets. The completely sheer skirt trailed behind Carpenter as she walked.

At this rate, Carpenter will be a loyal VMAs guest for decades to come. Who knows? Maybe she'll be promoting another chart-topping album this time next year. Doja Cat

News that Doja Cat would perform at the 2025 MTV VMAs guaranteed a set list with head-turning outfits to match. But first, the star and her stylist, Brett Alan Nelson, collaborated on a harlequin Balmain mini dress for the red carpet, sourced from the label's Pre-Fall 2024 collection. Teeing up her '80s-inspired new musical era (Prince is an influence cited in the New York Times), she coordinated the dress's pink accents with megawatt fuchsia gemstones from Chopard's Haute Joaillerie Collection–plus, piece-y bangs and curls Dolly Parton would approve.

This will be the first year that the awards ceremony will air live on CBS and simulcast on MTV.

Of the nominees, Lady Gaga is the most-recognized artist this year with 12 nods, followed by her "Die With a Smile" collaborator Bruno Mars with 11 nods. Who will receive the Video Vanguard Award at the 2025 MTV VMAs?

Mariah Carey will receive the 2025 Video Vanguard Award at this year's VMAs. Mother Lamb's highly-anticipated, career-spanning performance will be her first time gracing the VMAs stage in 20 years, since her rendition of The Emancipation of Mimi singles "We Belong Together" and "Shake It Off" (with guests Jadakiss and Jermaine Dupri) in 2005.

Despite her legacy of iconic music videos for songs like "Honey," "Always Be My Baby," and "Obsessed," the Video Vanguard Award will be Carey's first-ever VMA award over her 35-year career.

The Queen of Christmas will also become the eighth female recipient of the Video Vanguard Award in a row, following Rihanna, Pink, Jennifer Lopez, Missy Elliot, Nicki Minaj, Shakira, and Katy Perry.

The pop superstar was awarded the high honor of Video of the Year for "Fortnight," her collaboration with Post Malone off The Tortured Poets Department, at the award show on Wednesday, September 11. While accepting the coveted prize, she opened up about her relationship with the Kansas City Chiefs tight end and how supportive he is.

Swift reflected in her speech about how Kelce joined her on set to shoot the music video, which she wrote and directed herself. "The thing is that this video seems very sad when you watch it, but it actually was like the most fun video to make," she shared. "And something that I'll always remember is that when I would finish a take and I'd say, “Cut,” and we'd be done with that take, I would always just hear someone cheering from across the studio where we were shooting it and that one person was my boyfriend, Travis."

To perform her recent hit "Good Luck, Babe!" on the VMA stage on Wednesday, September 11, the pop star channeled Joan of Arc in a theatrical, intricate, jaw-dropping performance that burned the stage up, literally.

The "HOT TO GO!" singer began her performance behind a stately gate, with the stage evoking an ancient castle behind her. Wearing a suit of silver armor and chainmail, Roan marched to the front of the stage carrying a crossbow lit with a flaming arrow. She then shot the arrow at the stage, setting off sparks and the opening notes of "Good Luck, Babe!"

As the "Red Wine Supernova" star sang on the emblazed stage, she and her armor-clad dancers performed an extended fight sequence, complete with swordplay and pyrotechnics. "Thank you to the people who are fans who listen to me who hear me when I share my joy and my fears," the singer (whose real name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz) continued.

Her emotional speech concluded by speaking directly to her fans from the Midwest, referring to her upbringing in Willard, Missouri and her 2023 hit album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. She said, "For all the queer kids in the Midwest watching right now, I see you, I understand you because I'm one of you and don't ever let anyone tell you that you can't be exactly who you wanna be."

Roan earned her first-ever VMA nominations at this year's award ceremony. In addition to Best New Artist, she was also up for MTV Push Performance of the Year for "Red Wine Supernova," Best Trending Video for "HOT TO GO!," and Song of the Summer for "Good Luck, Babe!."

"This is just so special, but also bittersweet because I know there's a tendency to group all African artists under Afrobeats," Tyla continued. "It's a thing, and even though Afrobeats has run things and has opened so many doors for us, African music is so diverse. It's more than just Afrobeats."

The 22-year-old musician then spoke about how she specifically makes amapiano music, or a South African genre that fuses house, jazz, and the '90s-originated sound known as kwaito. "I come from South Africa. I represent amapiano, I represent my culture," she said, before going on to shout out some of her peers and others nominated in the Afrobeats category. "Africa to the world," she added.

Others in the Best Afrobeats category included Ayra Starr featuring Giveon for "Last Heartbreak Song," Burna Boy for "City Boys," Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay for "Sensational," Tems for "Love Me JeJe," and Usher for "Pheelz."

Tyla was among this year's first-time nominees. Aside from Best Afrobeats, she's also up for the coveted Best New Artist award, as well as Best R&B for "Water."

The hitmaker released her self-titled debut studio album in March to critical acclaim.

This year marked Megan Thee Stallion's first time MC-ing the MTV VMAs—and she made sure to pay homage to one of the award show's most beloved performers over the years while hosting.

The rap superstar made several outfit changes throughout the 2024 MTV VMAs, and at one point came out replicating the memorable look Britney Spears' wore while performing "Slave 4 U" at the 2001 VMAs. Megan perfectly recreated the green bikini top and blue hot pants—and even had her own Banana, the yellow snake the pop icon danced with.

While it was a sweet moment, Megan Thee Stallion quickly seemed concerned that the snake might "HISS" at her.

"Slave 4 U" was playing as the "Mamushi" artist appeared wearing the Britney fit with the snake draped over her shoulders, but she began repeating, "Okay, okay. Stop the music, stop the music."

"There is a very clear reason why Post Malone is everyone in music's favorite person to collaborate with," she said, addressing her friend. "And it is because you are so ridiculously talented. You are so versatile and you're the most down-to-earth person. Honestly, so unfailingly polite. It has taken me forever to get him to stop calling me, ma'am."

The folklore singer then stepped aside and asked Malone if he had anything to say, to which he replied a quick, "Yes, ma'am."

"Taylor is ... ugh ... I'm at an absolute loss for words," the "LEVII'S JEANS" singer began. "Absolutely one of the most kind and talented people I've ever had the honor of knowing. Just the amount of work and care and love that she puts into everything she does."

Nicki Minaj has debuted some wild looks over the course of her career, but I particularly enjoy this two-toned pink and blonde 'do. In a synergistic moment, the hair and lipstick match her Barbie-pink dress, but the rest of her makeup is relatively simple.

Cyndi Lauper had maximalist style that every '80s girl wanted to emulate. Taking a lot of very striking elements—dark lip, dark brows, dark eyeshadow, and a messy teased pixie that's going in every direction—Lauper nevertheless looks incredibly cohesive.

First, I just really love Megan Thee Stallion's choker, and it makes sense that she would style the look around the statement piece. Second, the impressive contouring and dramatic eye makeup absolutely complements the necklace and the boning on her dress.

Pamela Anderson

My '90s queen, Pamela Anderson was in full force here, with her long platinum blonde hair, her pink frosted lips, and her dramatic black eye makeup. Bonus '90s points for that choker (and the fact that she's making thin eyebrows look better than the rest of us).

Cher

Technically, this is an afterparty post-VMAs, but Cher looks so stunning here that I have to add it to this list. The blonde pixie (with brows dyed to match), the lavender eyeshadow, the completely nude lips, the statement earrings and headband—it's all brilliant.

An important part of Shakira's trademark style has been her long, voluminous hair (I have always wanted mine to look like hers—alas). Here, the highlights and long layers give depth and volume, which means she can keep her makeup simple and complementary.

Rihanna

Rihanna's whole career has been deeply stylish, and she's always brought her makeup and hair into the look (she was a makeup expert long before she launched Fenty!). This combo of pixie, bold eyelashes, and red lip make her look like a '50s-era aesthetic got a modern refresh.

Jennifer Lopez

Similarly, J. Lo has had iconic style and beauty looks for a long time. This was one of her early appearances at the VMAs (2000, to be exact), and this all is extremely on-brand for a Y2K aesthetic. I appreciate how neutral her makeup is, so that she still comes off as understated.

In a legendary red carpet appearance, with partner Kurt Cobain and their baby in tow (they were literally holding a bottle), I must admit that Courtney Love looks great here. The red lip and soft waves in her platinum hair look very classic—a surprise, given her edgy persona.

Iman is a vision here in that floral dress (David Bowie looks appropriately enthusiastic to be her date). That deep wine-colored lip gloss is utter perfection, and when paired with a similarly hued eyeshadow, the model is doing bold and dramatic without overselling it.

While everyone (appropriately) was focused on the literal meat dress Lady Gaga was wearing, I actually think her makeup looks really great here. And, in a matching moment I didn't realize until this very moment, her red lipstick matches the meat on her head.

Cindy Crawford in belted Versace figuratively shut down the red carpet (it was more unusual than it is now to see such a startling design), but I like how her makeup and hair are appropriate over-the-top but still subtle and matte. Not fighting with the outfit, but equally striking.

To announce to the world that you're pregnant, why not do it mid-performance at a major awards show?? I'm so impressed by the softness here: gentle blonde waves, nude lip, deep gray eyeshadow, all in contrast to the sequined perfection of her outfit.

Britney Spears

If you're going to wear a snake as an accessory, your beauty look had better bring it, that's all I'm saying. Britney Spears is giving us some great wavy hair and pink lip gloss, but (as ever) I'm drawn to the very '00s glitter highlighter she has on her cheeks.

It's hard to outdo the Queen of Pop! When Madonna took to the VMAs stage singing "Like a Virgin" in a wedding dress and a "Boy Toy" belt, we were forever changed. And that red lip and messy, crunchy curls will live in infamy as an indelible part of this iconic look.

If you're basically a forensic historian when it comes to celebrity gossip, you might think you know everything there is to know about Madonna and Britney Spears' iconic on-stage kiss at the 2003 MTV Music Video Awards—and yet!

During a press interview with E! News to promote her movie Shotgun Wedding with Josh Duhamel, Jennifer Lopez revealed her go-to karaoke tune is "Like a Virgin" by Madonna, which, amazing choice.

The follow-up question was: Are the rumors that you were meant to be involved in the Britney-Madonna kiss true?

Lopez quickly admitted, "Yes, that was actually true. Yeah, yeah."

She explained, "I was filming a movie in Canada and we had met, me, her and Britney, to do it at her home, and then it just—I just couldn't get off the film, and so we couldn't do it, and so I guess, they got somebody... They got Christina Aguilera, I think, to do it, and I didn't wind up doing it."

Talk about a sliding doors moment, TBH.

As a reminder, in their VMAs performance, Madonna, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera performed a medley of Madonna songs, and at one point Madonna turned to make out with Spears, then kissed Aguilera.

Anywhooo, Shotgun Wedding is an action comedy in which an entire wedding party is taken hostage during a destination wedding. It's, of course, as silly as it sounds and would make a great watch for your night off. It's out Jan. 27 on Prime Video, and also features Lenny Kravitz, D'Arcy Carden and award season fave Jennifer Coolidge.

Wow, Taylor Swift.

If, after she released four albums in the space of two years (two original and two re-recordings), you had a slight suspicion that the star never sleeps, it appears you may have been right.

Taking to Twitter after the 2022 VMAs, Swift wrote, "Midnights, the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life, will be out October 21. Meet me at midnight."

So a new album is coming and the fans are NOT OK.

Now, let's back up: Swift, prolific and beloved artist that she is, leaped on stage at the Awards ceremony to accept the much deserved Music Video of the Year for her direction of All Too Well: The Short Film.

Wearing an absolutely dazzling bejeweled, roped mini-dress, Swift told the audience, "I had sort of made up my mind that if you were gonna be this generous and give us this [award], I thought it might be a fun moment to tell you that [screams from the audience] my brand-new album comes out on October 21."

She then explained that she would release more details at midnight (obvs), which came in the form of the aforementioned tweet. In it, she shared two images: the first looks like an album cover, with just "Midnights" and "Track One" through "Track Thirteen" written in simple ombré blue font next to a close-up, hazy photo of Swift in sparkly makeup and flicking a metal lighter.

The second image is a dimly lit image of Swift sitting at a table with her head in her hand, along with the words:

"We lie awake in love and in fear, in turmoil and in tears. We stare at walls and drink until they speak back. We twist in our self-made cages and pray that we aren't—right this minute—about to make some fateful life-altering mistake.

"This is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terror and sweet dreams. The floors we pace and the demons we face. For all of us who have tossed and turned and decided to keep the lanterns lit and go searching—hoping that just maybe, when the clock strikes twelve ... we'll meet ourselves."

Arghhhh, I cannot wait.

Megan Fox hasn't needed an introduction for at least a decade, but the actress has especially had tongues wagging over the past few months, as she shows up to one red carpet event after another in outfits each more daring than the next. People, as expected, haven't always been kind about Fox' skin-bearing looks, but don't worry: Fox knows exactly what she's doing.

In an Instagram post showing her outfits from the 2021 Met Gala and VMAs side by side, the star dared the sexists to come for her. "Just me out here ignoring and defying all of your puritanical emotionally repressed projections of what a woman should be," she wrote.

Cue virtual cheers and claps from the many fans who love her precisely because of her DGAF attitude: They wrote, "And that’s why I’ve been in love with you since I was 15," "Yes!! Speak up Megan. A lot of people are saying 'go home to your kids' but nobody would ever tell a man the same. And also, we can be whatever we wanna be" and, "let them know queen."

For reference, Fox wore a very naked look to the VMAs, a completely sheer dress with sparkly underwear.

She was there to cheer on her boyfriend Machine Gun Kelly, who performed alongside Kourtney Kardashian's boyfriend Travis Barker—relevant because the two women jumped on stage to introduce the musicians.

For the Met Gala, Fox showed up in a floor-length red gown with a high slit and lace-up details. She went for a pin-up look with eye-catching bangs and a red lip.

Can't wait to see what she wears to the next star-studded event.

Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly can rest easy tonight knowing they have already snagged the only award that matters during the MTV VMAs: sexiest couple at the award show. The pair shut down the red carpet with Fox donning a fully sheer, beaded Mugler dress—with matching sparkly thong and nude bralette—and Kelly wearing an all red glittery suit.

Fox also shared their looks on Instagram, pairing the flawless pics with the very cheeky caption: "Daddy’s gonna win a VMA."

The actress's "naked dress" may be an homage to Rose McGowan's iconic 1998 VMAs look that was similarly sparkly and completely sheer. It's also not surprising that MGK and Fox donned coordinated looks. Fox recently explained to the New York Post that she's "heavily influenced by whatever [MGK] pulls out of his closet." She also revealed that their twinning looks stemmed from a trip to Palm Springs when MGK suggested they get matching manicures and things snowballed from there.

“I haven’t seen two grown adult people match their outfits this way,” Fox told the outlet. “There’s a fun element that maybe people have been missing. You know, we’re not too serious.”

Kelly and Fox met in March 2020 on the set of their film Midnight In The Switchgrass and the actress appeared in the singer's music video for "Bloody Valentine" shortly after. By June 2020, they were official and things are reportedly getting serious for the couple—Fox was spotted at VMAs' rehearsals wearing a ring on THAT finger. Rumors are now swirling that Kelly may make a big announcement during his "Papercuts" performance alongside Travis Barker.

Though it's not completely surprising that things are moving quickly for the couple. The 35-year-old actress has previously called MGK her "twin flame."

"Instead of a soul mate, a twin flame is actually where a soul has ascended into a high enough level that it can be split into two different bodies at the same time," she said during a podcast interview. "So we're actually two halves of the same soul, I think. And I said that to him almost immediately, because I felt it right away."

The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards was a very big night for Lady Gaga. Not only was she handed the award for Best New Artist of the year, but it was on this night that the world at large was essentially introduced to Gaga, and her "expect the unexpected" aesthetic for the first time. From the moment she hit the red carpet wearing a Jean Paul Gaultier gown paired with a gilded neck brace, to her acceptance speech in an archival Alexander McQueen red lace dress paired with a matching, face-obscuring mask and crown, if you didn't know that Gaga had arrived to stake her claim as the next culturally significant visual artist of our time, you simply weren't paying attention.

Like Madonna before her, for the next 10 years Gaga took every opportunity at each red carpet event (not to mention new video, new live performance, new TV appearance, new street style moment) to help reinforce her position as chief avant-pop, fashion-freak, shit-stirrer who continued to keep her audience anticipating her next incarnation.

While we are all familiar with her myriad personas, it has truly been her turns on the red carpet that will remain most iconic for years to come. On her way to scoop up armfuls of accolades, Gaga has proved time and again that she can glam it up like the best of Hollywood royalty while always retaining some degree of her Mother Monster-ness.

Sadly, we were about to be treated to her newest incarnation as her sixth album, Chromatica was slated to drop on April 10th, but its release has since been been pushed back as Lady Gaga decided to re-focus her efforts on various COVID-19 initiatives. We did however, get a few hints of a new intergalactic, anime inspired, robotica persona from her "Stupid Love" video, but if we have learned anything from Gaga over the past decade, this was sure to be just the tip of the iceberg.

So, until we are again graced with Lady Gaga's next inspiring looks, let's take a moment to celebrate the last 10 years of her most fashionable red carpet star-turns. Rah-Rah-Gaga!!

Kicking off the new year in an interstellar creation by Armani Privé. This look marked a change in form from the designer who epitomized '80s style with his power suits. This crystal-encrusted dress, complete with orbiting rings and a dangerous looking spiked-star "purse" showed Armani in a creative new light and became the first of many collaborations between the pop star and Milanese powerhouse.

As a MAC Cosmetics Viva Glam Spokesperson, Lady Gaga walked the red carpet at amfAR's annual gala as a living work of art. Her (real) pearl encrusted look was created as a collaboration between artist Terence Koh and Haus of Gaga.

For the Brit Awards, less than a week after her appearance at amfAR, Lady Gaga floated across the red carpet in this phantasmic
multi-tiered gown by Francesco Scognamiglio. Her towering wig and white lace mask, created by famed London milliner Philip Treacy, helped this look haunt our memories for years to come.

In a beautiful tribute to the memory of her friend and collaborator, the late Alexander McQueen, Gaga paired a gown from an unfinished final collection by the designer, with the now iconic armadillo shoes from McQueen's Plato's Atlantis collection—where incidentally, Lady Gaga premiered her song "Bad Romance." She topped off the look with yet another Philip Treacy creation, this time, a gold feathered mohawk crown.

Later, that same evening, Gaga wore the infamous meat dress designed by Franc Fernandez, to accept her Video of the Year trophy for "Bad Romance."

For the 2011 GRAMMY Awards, Gaga went full-on extraterrestrial in MUGLER by Nicola Formichetti after hatching from an egg-like "vessel" created by designer Hussein Chalayan. Her look was heightened by facial (and shoulder) prosthetics for that extra alien touch created by famed makeup artist Val Garland.

Ghostly Elizabethan looks for day? Why not?? This two-piece Thom Browne suit in cream and white lace, with pearl detailing could almost read as classic—even with the latex underpinnings. But when paired with heavily powdered makeup, a teased to the heavens fright-wig, blacked out sclera lenses, and 10-inch custom made pearl-encrusted sandals, the look went from "lady" to Lady Gaga instantly.

Who doesn't step up their game for the OSCARS? "You don't understand, this is an ALAÏA." While Gaga has been seen wearing the masterful designer's ready-to-wear in the past, this look marked the first time Mr. Alaïa created a look specifically for the red carpet. With Gaga as his muse, Mr. Alaïa and his team of 25 worked on this embroidered masterpiece for two weeks. (And yes, even the gloves.)

Although, at the time, this Balenciaga (by Alexander Wang) look was derided by some critics for being more akin to a cross between a Japanese kimono and a Korean hanbok, her evening cape actually, more than anything, harkened back to the "egg coat" designs of Cristóbal Balenciaga himself from the 1960s. And while his tenure at Balenciaga was short, it was rather well-played of Gaga to support a young Chinese American designer in light of the evening's theme.

Eat your heart out, old Hollywood. Slinking across the stage to accept her Golden Globe for American Horror Story in custom made black velvet Atelier Versace, Lady Gaga left mouths agape. Channeling Marilyn Monroe with her retro bob, she clearly came to win.

Just when we were beginning to think Lady Gaga had gone full Hollywood, she took it back to her cyber roots with yet another custom Atelier Versace look based on a circuit board—perfectly on theme for the night.

This Armani Privé black lace ball gown complete with a massive train certainly brought all the drama to the arrivals carpet, but it was when Gaga removed the skirt later in the evening to reveal that the look was, in fact, a long sleeve lace catsuit(!!) with detachable ball skirt that even the haters had to bow down.

A star is born, in Valentino Couture. The Venice Film Festival premiered A Star is Born, and this marked Gaga's first in a long series of press appearances for the film. When she hit the red carpet in this giant over-the-top dress made of organza embroidered with tiers of pale pink feathers, we knew we were in for quite an awards season. Oh, and extra points for looking like an angel during a rainstorm.

The drama continues on her press tour for A Star is Born, this time, once again, in black velvet Armani Privé. Never one to miss out on "a moment" Gaga, slipped off her tulle veil, mid-carpet to reveal it turns into a shawl, bringing into the spotlight a pair of very serious diamond shoulder dusters.

As she has demonstrated time and again, dress for your audience. While still on her press tour for A Star is Born, Gaga attended the the ELLE Women in Hollywood Awards, where she chose this oversized Marc Jacobs suit. She explained in her acceptance speech—where she would reveal her experience with sexual abuse and discuss mental health—that she selected the suit look (as opposed to the many dramatic gowns she has been wearing recently), to "take the power back." "Today," she said, "I wear the pants."

Now THIS is a movie star. Lady Gaga shut down the Golden Globes red carpet in this custom-dyed lavender gown by Valentino Couture, and as a final touch tinted her hair to match, natch. The gown pays homage to the 1954 dress that Judy Garland wears in her version of A Star is Born.

Lady Gaga continued to channel that old Hollywood glamour in Christian Dior Haute Couture, but the shredded tulle and sky-high-slit nod to her rock and roll attitude. The blood red lips, nails, and super sleek hair reinforce her goddess-like look.

In a break from her full-on movie star mode, Lady Gaga returns to form in this custom silver sequin gown by Celine. This dress was inspired by a look from Hedi Slimane's debut collection for Celine. Gaga was among the first celebrities to sport his collection and crushed it on the red carpet with her no-frills rock-and-roll hair, a smokey eye, and attitude to spare.

Returning once again to her favorite designer, Alexander McQueen to snatch that Oscar—although maybe not the one she was hoping for. After all the frothy creations Gaga had sported on her press tour for A Star is Born, this Sarah Burton for McQueen dres—with its sculptural padded hips and lengthy train—is far from demure. Oh, and in case you felt like maybe it wasn't enough of a look for you, how about the famous 128-carat canary yellow Tiffany diamond, previously worn by Audrey Hepburn? Casual.

Kylie Jenner capped off her personal 2019 Halloween Parade with a basically-naked fairy look that's *this close* to NSFW territory.

On Thursday night, the reality star and Kylie Cosmetics mogul attended her sister, Kendall Jenner's, early 24th birthday party at the Blind Dragon nightclub in West Hollywood. The guest list for the bash was nothing short of star-studded, an included Leonardo DiCaprio, Hailey Baldwin, the Hadid sisters, and more.

The costume party doubled as a Halloween bash and marked the final installment of Kylie's 2019 series of stunning Halloween costumes.

Earlier in October, Kylie showed off several other Halloween lewks, including a spot-on recreation of Madonna's 2003 MTV Video Music Awards ensemble (her BFF, Anastasia Karanikolaou, dressed as Britney Spears and together they reenacted the singers' iconic kiss), a very sexy version of Ariel from Disney's The Little Mermaid, and a Marilyn Monroe look so perfect, it will make you want to see Kylie play the late actress in a biopic.

Kylie's final Halloween 2019 look? Just the sexiest forest fairy sprite you've ever seen. Kylie's sparkly, purple fairy costume also happens to double as one of the star's most naked looks of all time.

"last night was magical 🧚🏼‍♀️," Kylie wrote in the caption along with a series of sexy shots of the ensemble.

Kylie's outfit was definitely on-theme. Kendall shared a couple of 'Grams of her own outfit for the party—a gold forest fairy costume topped with a crown that looks right out of Game of Thrones.

One minute you're wearing a meat dress to the 2010 VMAs, and the next you're singing with Bradley Cooper at the Oscars. Nobody has had an evolution quite like Lady Gaga—both in her career and her personal life—and she is, no doubt, one of the best artists of all time. Here, we're taking a trip down memory lane and ranking the top Lady Gaga songs of the decade. Gaga, I'll always remember you this way.

12) "Christmas Tree," 2008

Eleven years ago, Lady Gaga gave us the sexy Christmas song we didn't deserve (only available as digital download, a concept!)...and TBH, we're still not worthy. Not-for-the-family lyrics include, "Light me up put me on top, let's falalalalalalala / Light me up put me on top, let's falalalalalalala / The only place you wanna be / Is underneath my Christmas tree."

11) "Just Dance" ft. Colby O'Donis, 2008

I wish I could just dance and it'll be okay! It's hard to believe this was Gaga's very first single—one of the best-selling of all time—that only my 13-year-old self could have truly appreciated. Also, remember Colby O'Donis? He's the dude who sang "What You Got" and we haven't heard from since.

10) "Telephone" ft. Beyoncé, 2009

Two queens, one song. Think about how major it was for Beyoncé to collaborate with a fairly new artist at the time (I know), and produce such a relatable anthem for anybody who has ever dealt with an obsessive, controlling partner.

9) "Poker Face," 2008

Gaga has a thing for creating incredible music videos (as seen above with Beyoncé), and "Poker Face" is no different. It lands at number nine on this list, mainly for its lyrics that were on every Facebook timeline in 2008. "And baby when it's love, if its not rough it isn't fun. (;"

8) "Hey Girl" ft. Florence Welch, 2016

Lady Gaga's most intimate, vulnerable songs make themselves a home on Joanne (2016). Named after Gaga's late aunt, the album includes empowering bops like "Hey Girl" featuring the inimitable Florence Welch. (Yes, both of their angelic voices are in one song!) This one makes you want to call up your girlfriends immediately and tell them how badass they are.

7) "Grigio Girls," 2016

"Grigio Girls" is a powerful reminder of female strength. Gaga dedicated the beautiful song on Joanne to her late friend Sonja who passed away from breast cancer in 2017. One listen, and you'll be calling your mom to tell her how much you love her.

6) "Born This Way," 2011

Gaga has long been a supporter of the LGBTQ community (she has identified as bisexual), and she proved it with "Born This Way" from her second studio album of the same title. Six years after its release, Gaga included it in her 2017 Super Bowl halftime performance—sending a powerful message to the Trump administration.

5) "Bad Romance," 2009

"I don't wannnnnnna be friends." When you think of Gaga, inevitably you think of "Bad Romance." It was one of the most notable songs from The Fame Monster, a reissuing of Gaga's debut studio album, The Fame. Imagining The New Gaga singing it feels like the song is from another lifetime, but it'll never get old.

4) "Edge of Glory," 2011

Need a boost of energy at work? "Edge of Glory." Need a great workout song? "Edge of Glory." Need to take down the patriarchy? "Edge of Glory." That is all.

3) "Million Reasons," 2016

If anybody can put together a song with the perfect mixture of heartbreak and hope, it's Gaga. "Million Reasons" is a raw, earnest reflection of the emotional rollercoaster of a mature breakup. Fans assumed it was a direct nod to Gaga's relationship with her ex Taylor Kinney.

2) "You and I," 2011

"You and I" is pretty much Gaga slamming open the door and saying, "I'm comin' for you." It's electrifying, empowering, and 100 percent a karaoke jam. Please, just take a moment to appreciate her vocals and the electric guitar played by Queen's Brian May.

1) "Shallow" ft. Bradley Cooper, 2018

"Shallow" lands itself at number one on the best Lady Gaga songs of all time because...obviously! (I mean, it didn't win Best Original Song at the 2019 Oscars for no reason.) Ally feels less and less like a A Star Is Born character, and more of an on-screen portrayal of Gaga's incredible talent and the work she's put in to get here.

With fame comes scandal. Time and again, celebrities have found themselves in some of the most controversial year-defining situations—getting caught in secret affairs, being arrested for shoplifting or drunk driving, and tragically, being accused of sexual assault. Click through to learn about the biggest celebrity scandals over the years.

Before he became everyone’s favorite Santa Clause (or the handy tool man, or Buzz Lightyear), Tim Allen was caught dealing drugs—specifically cocaine. He was arrested for possession of nearly a pound-and-a-half of cocaine at the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International airport in Michigan in 1978. He spent 28 months in a federal prison, as opposed to a life sentence, for giving up the names of other drug offenders.

The soul singer of the 80s, known as the Prince of Motown, was shot and killed by his father, Rev. Marvin Gay Sr. after an altercation. (Note: The "e" was added to the singer's stage name.) Gaye's brother Frankie, reportedly held him in his final moments. In his memoir, Frankie wrote that his brother's last words were, "I got what I wanted...I couldn’t do it myself, so I made him do it."

A video of the then-24-year-old Parks and Rec star having sex with two women was reportedly recorded the night before the 1988 Democratic National Convention in Atlanta. (Side note: Lowe was largely into politics before his acting career took off.) When it surfaced, it was discovered that one of the girls was only 16 years old. Her mother slapped him with a civil lawsuit, and he ended up settling, paying her a large sum of money and doing 20 hours of community service.

In 2001, Paul Reubens, better known as Pee-Wee Herman, was caught masturbating inside an adult theater. As the story goes, Reubens was at XXX South Trail Cinema to watch three different films: Catalina Five-O Tiger Shark, Nurse Nancy, and Turn Up the Heat. Several detectives spotted him in the act and arrested the kid's show host. He reportedly offered to perform a children's benefit if the charges were dropped.

In 1992 The Sun leaked a transcript of Princess Diana's secret phone calls with her lover, James Gilbey. Diana was still married to Prince Charles at the time, who was also reportedly having an affair of his own with now-wife Camila Parker-Bowles.

In 1993, Michael Jackson was accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy named Jordan Chandler. After the accusations went public, Jackson cancelled his tour due to health issues from the scandal. He later settled the case, paying the Chandlers $23,000.

Football star O.J. Simpson was arrested for the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend, Ronald Goldman, following a now-iconic car chase through Los Angeles. After 15 months in jail, Simpson was famously acquitted of both counts, thanks in part to his lawyer's "if the glove doesn't fit, you must acquit" line. In 2008, 13 years later, Simpson was convicted of robbery and kidnapping for a separate incident.

In 1995, Hugh Grant paid a sex worker to give him a blow job on the Sunset Strip but the two were found by police and the Four Weddings and a Funeral actor was arrested for "lewd conduct" in a public place. At the time of his arrest, he was with his longtime girlfriend Elizabeth Hurley, who tried to work through the incident. She ended up leaving Grant five years later.

After years of marital strain and four years of separation, Prince Charles and Princess Diana formally divorced in August of 1996. Their marriage was tainted by controversy, especially at the end, with both sides cheating—Charles most famously with long-time love and now-wife, Camilla Parker Bowels. As the future King of England, Charles' status as a divorcee is particularly scandalous.

Less than a year after she and Prince Charles got divorced, Princess Diana was killed in a car accident in Paris after being chased by paparazzi—and it was rumored that the future king planned her death. Later a letter from the princess to her former butler was discovered. In it she wrote that she felt Charles was setting up an incident so he could marry Tiggy, the former nanny of Princes William and Harry, but many believe the note was forged and an inquest concluded in 2008 found no wrongdoing on the part of the royal family.

In 1995, former President Bill Clinton began having an affair with a then-21-year-old Monica Lewinsky, who was an unpaid White House intern. The huge scandal was made public in 1998, and Clinton denied that he had "sexual relations" with Lewinsky. He later admitted that he did have an affair with her, which contributed to his impeachment in 1999.

After one of the deadliest schools shootings—in which two seniors murdered 12 students and one teacher at Columbine High School—people pointed the finger at musician Marilyn Manson. It was thought that the two students loved Manson and his music, and it was said that the singer's songs inspired them to carry out the tragic act. The rumor was proven false, but Manson's reputation was hurt badly from the reports.

In 2001, the Stranger Things actress was caught stealing over $5,560 worth of merchandise from a Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills, California. She reportedly ripped tags off of clothing items and stashed them in her bag.

Ryder later spun the incident positively, telling Daily Mail, "In a weird way, it was almost like the best thing that could have happened, because I’d never asked myself the question before of, Is it okay if I’m not going to act? Is there anything else? because that was all that I really knew."

R. Kelly was indicted on 21 counts of child pornography after a tape showing him having sex with and urinating on an underage woman was sent to the Chicago Sun Times. He plead not guilty to all charges. Since, dozens of women have claimed to have been held in a sex cult by the singer. The hashtag #MuteRKelly started spreading recently, and Spotify was the first company to actually take action.

During a 2003 MTV Video Music Award performance, Britney Spears and Madonna shocked everyone when they kissed on stage. Christina Aguilera was performing with them, too, and got a smooch from Madonna, but the cameras switched shots and their kiss wasn't televised. Videographers instead cut to a shot of Justin Timberlake's shocked face.

If there is any one wardrobe malfunction you remember, it's #NippleGate from the 2004 Super Bowl Halftime show. Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson were performing together when he ripped a part of her bustier off, exposing her bare breast on live TV. Not only was Mel Gibson arrested for drunk driving, but he made matters worse when he said, ”Fucking Jews…The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world” during the incident. Gibson also reportedly called the female office who pulled him over, "sugar tits." Yikes! He pleaded no contest to the DUI charges, and got three years probation and was required to attended AA meetings for a year.

Also in 2007: Britney Spears shaved off all her hair. The "Oops I Did It Again" singer hit rock bottom, beating up a photographer's car with an umbrella just days after going at her head with a buzz cutter. That year was a rough year for Spears, and it started the famous meme: "If Britney Spears can make it through 2007, then I can make it through today."

Before she was married to Kanye West, Kim Kardashian was in a serious relationship with another singer: Willie "Ray J" Norwood. The couple reportedly filmed a sex tape back in 2002 during a trip to Cabo, Mexico, and it was released to the public five years later when Kim began getting more media attention for being friends with Paris Hilton (who also has a sex tape). Kim sued in an attempt to prevent the 41-minute film from being accessible, but it still found its way to the internet.

In 2008, the 10 Things I Hate About You actor was found dead in his bed in New York city. The NYC Medical Examiner's Office later determined that the cause of death was an accidental overdose of prescription painkillers, including anti-anxiety meds and sleeping pills. The Dark Knight, starring Ledger as the Joker, was released that summer in theaters, and his performance won him a posthumous Oscar.

Back in 2009, Chris Brown beat up then-girlfriend Rihanna after she discovered a text message from one of Brown's former flames. The "Forever" singer reportedly punched her in the face, repeatedly bit her, and choked her, but not to the point of unconsciousness.

In a 20/20 interview, Rihanna opened up about the incident. "It was ugly," she said. "I fended him off with my feet...but it was not like, it was not like a fight with each other. I just...I really just wanted it to stop."

Michael Jackson was found dead on June 25, 2009. The cause? Surgical anesthetic Propofol, which was given to him by his personal doctor, Conrad Murray. Murray claimed to be injecting the King of Pop with the drug as a treatment for his insomnia. Jackson's death was ruled a homicide, and Murray blamed for negligent monitoring. He spent two years in jail for involuntary manslaughter.

The world was shocked when Whitney Houston was found dead in a bathtub at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in 2012. An autopsy revealed that the singer died from accidental drowning. Her body was found with numerous drugs in it, including cocaine, marijuana, Xanax, and Benadryl. Houston had heart disease, so it is thought that the disease mixed with cocaine contributed to her death.

Following the 2014 Met Gala, leaked surveillance video captured Solange Knowles physically fighting her brother-in-law Jay Z in an elevator at the Standard Hotel in New York City. Although there was no shortage of speculation on the internet, the Carter-Knowles family gave little information as to what actually went down. “They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family,” they said in a statement given to the Associated Press.

Although the family has remained incredibly mum’s the word on the situation, Jay Z broke his silence in 2017 to share that he and Solange truly have moved on. "We had one disagreement ever. Before and after, we've been cool. She's like my sister. I will protect her. That's my sister, not my sister-in-law. My sister. Period,” he said during an appearance on Rap Radar.

NFL quarterback Tom Brady is the star of one of the biggest NFL Super Bowl controversies to date: Deflategate. One day after he led the Patriots to a Super Bowl win in 2015, news broke that the team's personnel had deflated footballs before the game—and that Brady knew about it. Brady, and the entire Patriots team, suffered the consequences. He was suspended for four games, and the team was slapped with a $1 million fine and forced to give up to draft picks. Ouch.

Kanye’s infamous “I’mma let you finish” at the 2008 Video Music Awards turned out to only be the beginning of his beef with Taylor Swift. In 2016, Kanye released the song “Famous” on his The Life of Pablo album, which explicitly mentions Swift in the opening: “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex/Why? I made that bitch famous/Goddamn, I made that bitch famous.” Although Swift claimed she didn’t know about the song, Kim Kardashian decided to interject on her husband’s behalf. In a series of Snapchats, Kardashian leaked a recorded phone call between Kanye and Swift—Kanye shares a clip of the song for Swift’s approval, and the singer is heard saying, “Yeah, I mean, what's dope about the line is it's very tongue in cheek either way. And I really appreciate you telling me about it, that's really nice.”

Swift’s response to the Snapchats? The singer claimed Kanye never shared the most offensive part of the lyrics with her. “Where is the video of Kanye telling me he was going to call me ‘that bitch’ in his song? It doesn’t exist because it never happened. You don’t get to control someone’s emotional response to being called ‘that bitch’ in front of the entire world,” she wrote on Instagram. To this day, the feud still remains a case of he-said-she-said.

After months of speculation, an uncharacteristically quiet Kylie Jenner took to Instagram to share that she had given birth to a baby girl on February 1. Although news of her reported pregnancy with boyfriend Travis Scott leaked in September 2017, the reality star chose to stay quiet through all nine months, never confirming the news. “I’m sorry for keeping you in the dark through all the assumptions. I understand you’re used to me bringing you along on all my journeys. My pregnancy was one I chose not to do in front of the world,” she wrote in an Instagram post announcing the news. The 20-year-old also released a home video, “To Our Daughter,” that gave fans a peek at her hidden pregnancy.
