"[AI will] never replace human beings," an Aerie-clad Anderson tells me over Zoom, minutes after coming in from her garden. If I didn't know any better, I'd say she was fresh from her "100% Aerie Real" photoshoot, in a crisp, matching white set.

"When I saw the clothes, I was like, 'That looks like my closet,'" she says. She loves "fancy things" on occasion, but in the end she just wants to feel like herself—a genre Aerie is all but synonymous with.

Being "approachable and accessible" is what initially drew Anderson to Aerie. "I thought [the campaign was] a way to kind of talk to a younger audience, their audience." But she stayed for the even more relatable angst toward AI, and its impact on fashion and beauty standards.

"This is something that's very unsettling to me—I always get duped by AI," Anderson says, reflecting on the times her sons pointed out an image was created by an AI generator. But saying yes to Aerie's spot is her way of making a conscious effort to keep it real.

The actor recognizes it's easy to "spiral" or become "disoriented" by the ever-changing world of artificial intelligence—especially in fashion. For instance, Valentino and Gucci have been in hot water for using AI-generated images in Dec. 2025 and Feb. 2026 campaigns, respectively. What's more, a Sept. 2025 report from Cornell University's Worker Institute and Data & Society flagged the dangers models face at the hands of AI: "A single photoshoot can be used by client companies to capture images, body scans, and/or measurements that can then be easily manipulated with AI technologies, allowing companies to extract additional profit from this data without needing to re-hire or further compensate the model," the research says.

For Anderson, a conversation-starting campaign is one more way of "staying in the fight" against Black Mirror-esque trends. "I want to stay provocative in our thinking—the more we talk about [AI] and the more we can think about it, we won't get so controlled or seduced by it."

It's been three years since a bare-faced Anderson made waves at Paris Fashion Week, after decades of being known for extravagant, sometimes risqué red carpet looks. (Her leather bustier at the '95 Cannes Film Festival, and her sheer, sequin pants at the '99 MTV VMAs come to mind.) Then and now, she's never let trends—in tech or otherwise—dictate what she thinks is beautiful. "We have to just create our own beauty standards," Anderson says, remembering the different eras of her style. "I've been on this path where I'm not wearing makeup on red carpets or magazine covers, [but] I remember when I used to wear full glam."

Now, while it's "so nice to feel free," it was also a "process for me to realize I don't look like I did when I was 20," Anderson says. Embracing her minimalist side is her "small contribution" to encourage everyone to be themselves. She remembers a circa-1955 quote by E.E. Cummings: "To be nobody but yourself—in a world which is doing its best day and night to make you like everybody else—means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight and never stop fighting."

These days, it's more common than not to "compare yourself to AI-generated images or retouched images of celebrities," she says. However, "it's so freeing to just love yourself as you are." Anderson even believes she looks "better to the naked eye than in pictures."

Anderson relates to Aerie's initiative "as an actress, as a mother, as a lover, as a human being," a package AI couldn't hope to completely replicate, even with a detailed prompt. She's as genuine as ever in the clip, picking tulips, having tea, and playing chess, all dressed in Aerie's elevated basics. "We all have such beautiful stories within each of us that none of us even know about each other," she says. "AI could never put that kind of twinkle in your eye."

Anderson hit the red carpet on Jan. 11 wearing a white, long-sleeve blouse from Ferragamo along with a white maxi skirt and black, open-toe stilettos. As always, she wore no makeup and had her hair styled in a twisted French updo courtesy of celebrity hairstylist, John Nollet.

"My inspiration came from the golden age of movies, ones that make me dream of a glamorous Hollywood—Fellini, Hitchcock, etc. It’s always about how to make hair shine with a beautiful, healthy texture," Nollet said of Anderson's look in a statement. Once I took note of the supermodel's unseasonal little black dress for a May 28 event (courtesy of Saint Laurent, of course), it hit me: She's not the only A-lister to break tradition and stave off white dresses this season. Jennifer Lawrence, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, and even Taylor Swift are all actively anti-LWD.

This time last year, white dresses dominated celebrities' closets, as I expected. Fast forward 365 days, and they're erased from my Instagram timeline. Instead, celebrities have discovered near-infinite ways to make LBDs work year-round. The solution? Shorter hems, lightweight fabrics, and plunging necklines. Some stars are even taking the trend a step further and going the matching skirt set route. And just like that, I'm fully convinced to swap my ivory minis for their sultry older sisters.

The more celebrities commit to a warm-weather black dress, the more I'm convinced these looks are too divine to disappear for an entire season. Plus, if anyone can encourage me to ditch my LWDs, it's J.Law. Just hours after e.l.f. announced it officially acquired Bieber's eponymous skincare label, Rhode, for $1 billion, the founder celebrated the news in L.A. She looked like a billion bucks in a Saint Laurent mini dress—a fitting selection for the brand ambassador.

Bieber's strapless design was custom (surprise, surprise). But lucky for me, there are similar micro-mini styles on the market. I popped on my highest heels, oval-shaped sunglasses, and voilà: my Bieber-core combo was complete.

Taylor Swift's Little Black Matching Set

Swift's nights out in New York are some of the year's most stylish soirées—whether or not her celebrity friends are on the guest list. On May 31, the Grammy winner grabbed dinner at Midtown's Monkey Bar with her close pal Selena Gomez. The Rare Beauty founder went with a monochrome Ulla Johnson suit. Then, Swift followed her lead in all-black attire. She wore head-to-toe Gucci, including a bejeweled skirt set. Minutes after the photos dropped, the two-piece sold out. So, I shopped these LBDs instead.

Even though I'm infatuated by the sheer trend, I haven't given it a go myself yet. That's about to change, thanks to Lawrence's recent LBD.

On May 2, the Hunger Games alum was spotted in New York wearing Lemaire's transparent column dress. Complete with short sleeves, sheer viscose, and slits up each leg, the style was practically made with summer weather in mind. She accessorized it with a $30,000 The Row bag, but my trusty Aupen purse will do.

Rihanna's Fringe Black Dress

Off the red carpet at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, Rihanna ditched French Riviera fashion for a laidback LBD. Her fringe-embellished Khaite dress immediately earned a spot on my summer mood board. Once it was time to style it, I channeled my inner RiRi with naked shoes and Ray-Ban sunglasses.

Miley Cyrus's Ruched Black Dress

If my younger self could see me now, she'd be glad to learn Cyrus is still my fashion blueprint. My new favorite look of hers? A smocked mini dress from Saint Laurent. Once again, Cannes flew by. But multiple moments, including Emma Stone's floor-length Louis Vuitton maxi, still live rent-free in my mind. Fresh from the label's Fall/Winter 2025 collection, her noir number featured tiered ivory lace. The boho-inspired embellishments blended the whimsy of LWDs with the bold allure of LBDs. Once or twice every summer, the forecast surprises me with a slight breeze and cooler temperatures. I look in my closet of micro shorts and tank tops, and suddenly I have nothing to wear. Who says tweed is reserved for the winter months? Pamela Anderson just proved the charming fabric deserves a spot in my current rotation. The Last Showgirl star paired her Marc Jacobs LBD with sheer tights and pointy pumps, but I plan to summer-ify it with strappy sandals. I might even add a sun hat, if I'm feeling flirty.

Pamela Anderson remains the queen of '90s-inspired glam. On May 19, the actress and model was spotted in New York City leaving her hotel clad in an all-black outfit and light makeup. The soft rouge on her cheeks may come as a surprise to her fans—she’s been outspoken about not wearing makeup since 2023, after all—but it wasn't her revival of blush that caught my eye. Instead, it was her curled bob: a hairstyle move that solidifies her as yet another celebrity to join the bob-aissance.

For this look, Anderson’s short hair, which typically falls about an inch below her chin, was curled into short, voluminous ringlets. A deep side part allowed her blunt bangs to beautifully frame her face. No other additional hair accessories were used to supplement the hairstyle, allowing her fresh spirals and signature blonde hair color to shine.

Bob haircuts have been having a moment recently, thanks in part to The White Lotus. For decades, there has been an unfortunate but common belief in Hollywood (and beyond) that women over 40 are invisible. They’re often relegated to playing somebody’s nondescript wife. Or mother. Or in some mind-boggling cases, somebody’s grandmother.

While this has improved in recent years (though statistics regarding on-screen representation remain dismal), now more than ever, women in Hollywood are taking matters into their own hands and shaping the conversation around aging with their own art. And it’s paying off. Several films that see women wrestle with their age have garnered acclaim this awards season: the Demi Moore-led feminist horror film The Substance, the Gia Coppola-directed indie The Last Showgirl, which marks Pamela Anderson’s first movie in 34 years, the Amy Adams-led adaptation of Rachel Yodder’s novel Nightbitch (and, in some ways, the Nicole Kidman-starring erotic drama Babygirl). Though each film tackles the subject matter uniquely—whether following a celebrity fitness instructor deemed “past her prime,” a Las Vegas dancer facing an unknown path, or a stay-at-home mom who’s convinced she’s turning into a dog—what unites them is how their complex characters face both the internal and external. Their poignancy and power lie not just in these characters’ reckonings with their self-worth, but in realizing just how frustrated they’ve become with the glass ceilings that exist to make them feel the way they do.

These feminist movies have become frontrunners for Oscar nominations and will continue to resonate in cinema going forward. With the arrival of The Last Showgirl in theaters nationwide on January 10, Marie Claire asked The Substance writer/director Coralie Fargeat, Nightbitch co-writer/director Marielle Heller, and The Last Showgirl writer Kate Gersten about their projects and Hollywood finally embracing of stories that examine the complexities of aging.

Here, they share what they found most liberating in the writing process, the hurdles they’ve had to overcome, and where they hope the industry goes next.

Marie Claire: There’s a trend in movies that sees aging women as they come to terms with how society casts them aside. Why do you think we’re having these conversations now?

The Last Showgirl writer Kate Gersten: It's taken bravery—from writers, directors and actors but also from producers and distributors. We've actually been writing these stories for years, but they're finally coming to light because the ones putting forth the money for these projects are finally seeing how worthy, relevant, and necessary to female audiences they truly are.

The Substance writer/director Coralie Fargeat: Because women directors finally have more room to express themselves! These voices have always existed, but society didn't really allow them to be heard. That's why it's so important to have diverse voices and points of view in the cultural space.

Nightbitch writer/director Marielle Heller: It’s a good question. I don’t know why this is happening now, but I know, for me, it’s happening from a personal place of watching myself and my friends’ age and grappling with what that means as a woman.

MC: Did you have any surprising, refreshing, or even frustrating conversations while developing your project about wanting to depict aging through a female POV?

CF: There were many frustrating moments. I was hearing that movies with ‘a female lead don't sell as much as with a male lead’...which is unfortunately probably true because society has been shaped that way for so long. That's why we need all the more to support the new female voices that emerge. That means financing their films and trusting their visions even if they can be surprising and unconventional.

MH: I’ve had more frustration with some responses to the finished film. Amy [Adams] was asked by a male audience member if we’d ever considered telling the story from the husband‘s point of view, a man who goes out and feels the responsibility of making a living for his family. I wish I had been there. I would have said, ‘We’ve seen that story for decades. It’s called Death of a Salesman, American Beauty, or countless others.’ I guess I’m sort of shocked by how people are up in arms that the story is really from a woman’s perspective.

MC: What did you find to be most liberating about telling this story in such a nuanced way?

KG: I love writing female characters who don't have to be perfect. The cliches that society and Hollywood suffocate women with don't cross my mind while I'm in my writing process, because I'm basically just having conversations with the women/characters in my head. Especially with something like this, where I wasn't discussing it with anyone—no producers, no director, or actors—while I was writing it. It was just me and my imagination and my women.

CF: Being able to tell it in such a not nuanced way! Oh gosh, that was so liberating! As women, we are always asked to be delicate, polite, smiling, and it was so cool to do the exact opposite with The Substance. That is exactly what the film is about: to break free from the typical representations and constraints that have corseted women for so long.

MH: I truly was not worrying what men would think of this movie—for the first time in my life. I felt like Get Out gave me that permission. From my perspective, that movie wasn’t worrying what white people would feel about it, and I found that inspiring.

MC: Was there anything too unconventional in the script that you chose not to include or that you had to fight to include?

CF: I had to fight for literally everything. The whole movie is so unconventional and doesn’t convey the image people are used to seeing with female portrayal. This is what I wanted to fight against. I didn’t want to have my voice shaped by someone else. I wanted to be able to tell my way of experiencing the world, with its excess, its grossness, its specificity.

MH: I fought to show a woman and her aging body in a natural light. Amy was thankfully really game for this challenge and my collaborators all really understood the assignment, but I think it’s undoing some habits in Hollywood to not light, dress, stage a woman as a sex object.

MC: These films come from female filmmakers and screenwriters. What added perspectives do you think that brought to these stories?

KG: Oh, the whole damn thing. Women need to tell complex women's stories, it's that simple. Women's stories by men largely focus on sex or competition. That's the male lens. Depictions of groups of women by men are often all about conflict without care. Female characters can and should disagree and spar, but I think male filmmakers forget that we can do that with love, and that at the end of the day, most of us have each others' backs.

MH: I don’t really know how else to tell a story. My lived life informs every choice I make—which is why the more diverse voices making movies, the more diverse storytelling we get. It benefits everyone.

MC: Though these films vary in genre and tone (horror to comedy to drama) there’s a somber element at their crux. Why might that be the throughline?

KG: Because being a woman is complicated as hell. But actually, I reject the word ‘somber.’ It's just that what all of us have done here is we've been truthful. Being a woman can be wonderful and it can be miserable. We have to hold contradictions all the time, especially as we age. Being a mother is so hard, yet so fulfilling. Feeling beautiful but ignored is a real mindfuck. A truthful movie about themes like these isn't a ‘somber’ thing, it's reflecting how women feel and, to me, that is beautiful and uplifting.

CF: Well, just listen to the news. What’s happening to women everywhere is still such a fucking disaster. In the real world, we often don't have a choice but to silence ourselves to be able to make our way, so when we can really speak loud through our films, I guess it's the dark part that we can finally express.

MH: Because life is hard, man. Life is suffering. And it’s beautiful and magical. And also hard. Maybe it’s the national mood.

MC: What depictions of women aging on screen have stuck with you in the past, either positively or perhaps have shown how far we’ve come?

KG: One of my very favorite characters ever is Celeste Talbert in Soapdish, played by Sally Field. She's a soap opera star who feels obsolete at 45. She's paranoid and vengeful and completely insane, but I loved every second of it. It's a satire.

CF: One depiction that has stuck strongly with me is the old woman in the bathroom of The Shining. It’s how you represent a normal process like aging into a nightmare. This is the depiction that has unfortunately existed since the beginning of humanity and cultural representations, like the old witch, the old evil stepmother in the fairy tales, etc.

MH: I can’t think of many good ones, but I remember when I was making Can You Ever Forgive Me? [the 2018 drama about Lee Isreal] and I had this realization that Lee could only truly get away with her crimes because nobody really noticed her. As a woman of a certain age, she was fairly invisible. That was a lightbulb realization for me.

MC: What progress would you like to see from Hollywood with these kinds of stories being told? And more opportunities for older women on screen?

KG: Just let us tell more of our own stories. Female filmmakers and writers shouldn't be hard to find. P.S. Give us more money to make our films.

CF: Don’t dump these movies, support them! I want to see a real commitment to support new female voices.

MH: I just want people to watch these awesome movies. I want them to be taken as seriously as the wonderful movies about men and not be considered fringe. I want the money to reflect the reality of the world.

Though Pamela Anderson is most famous for her wild '90s looks (the Baywatch swimsuit, her black corset look, that fluffy pink bucket hat), she's currently in her best fashion era yet. In recent years, her style has evolved beyond feathers and corsets to something that more closely resembles the closet of Jackie Kennedy.

Present day Pamela is all about simplicity, favoring oversize styles with striking silhouettes over skin-tight looks that accentuate her silhouette. The impact is just as strong, but in a completely different way.

Anderson's most recent 'fit is straight out of the First Lady playbook. For the Golden Globes' First-Time Nominee Celebration on Dec. 17, the Last Showgirl actor chose another hyper-minimalist look. She was draped in ivory silk, by way of a '60s-era shift dress sourced by The Kit Vintage. The mod-style midi featured the decade's signature streamlined shape and mock neckline.

Beyond its pearlescent fabrication, the only design details to be seen were three crystal-encrusted buttons at the collar—a smart choice on the designer's behalf, as they added a bit of glamour to the subdued number. Continuing the theme of elegant simplicity, Anderson styled the dress only with sheer tights, black pumps, and the daintiest diamond studs.

Ivory dresses with clean lines (which actually returned to the trend cycle this fall) were Kennedy's bread and butter back in her White House days. In 1961, she wore a sleeveless floor-length gown in the same shimmery crepe fabric. Though Kennedy's featured a fitted bodice and exaggerated bubble skirt, she wore many a shift-style dress during this time.

Anderson's retro look is a result of Hollywood's overall shift from runway to vintage. More and more, stars are pulling from the designer archives and tapping vintage curators to find historic pieces. Red carpets, specifically, have seen a boom in designer looks sourced from women-owned vintage shops.

Jennifer Lawrence, for example, wore a 2006 Christian Lacroix gown last month for her documentary premiere. The drapey confection came from Shrimpton Couture, a celeb-loved vintage library that specializes in couture. Aralda Vintage, meanwhile, has been dressing celebs like Zendaya and Sabrina Carpenter for their various outings, while Bella Hadid recently pulled a suede co-ord from Hasbeen Vintage.

For both environmental and fashion-related reasons, this is a trend I can fully support.

After dressing up as a plethora of icons for Halloween 2024, including Betty Davis, Beyoncé paid tribute to Pamela Anderson in her new music video.

"Beywatch" serves as the music video for Beyoncé's song "Bodyguard." Throughout the video, the singer wears Anderson's most iconic outfits.

Wearing a long blonde wig, Beyoncé poses in a black strapless catsuit, patent knee-high stiletto boots, and sheer black gloves, emulating Anderson's glamorous Barb Wire outfit. In another clip, Beyoncé can be seen wearing a huge pink fluffy hat with a white corset, which Anderson wore to MTV's Video Music Awards in 1999. Designer Ivy Supersonic was responsible for creating Anderson's unforgettable pink hat.

Finally, the former Destiny's Child singer wears the red one-piece swimsuit worn by Anderson during her tenure on Baywatch. Beyoncé even recreated Anderson's slow motion run along the beach.

The singer encouraged viewers to cast their ballot in the election by firing a toy gun, which released a flag featuring the word "vote."

Beyoncé surprised Kamala Harris' Houston, Texas rally on October 24, when she gave an empowering speech to the crowd.

"I'm not here as a celebrity," the "Halo" singer explained. "I'm not here as a politician. I'm here as a mother." She continued, "A mother who cares deeply about the world my children and all of our children live in, a world where we have the freedom to control our bodies, a world where we’re not divided."

Beyoncé's speech was heard by more than 30,000 in-person attendees, and was livestreamed to five million viewers in the United States.

In her speech at the rally, the Obsessed star also paid tribute to Houston women, telling attendees, "It's impossible not to feel the energy in this room. We are at the precipice of an incredible shift."

She continued, "For all the women and men watching around the country, we need you. Your freedom is your God-given right and your human right."

At this point in her career, Pamela Anderson hardly requires an introduction. Still, since bursting onto the scene in the early '90s, the model, actress, and activist has added quite a few new titles to her ever expanding résumé, including author (her autobiography, Love, Pamela, was published in 2023, and her plant-based cookbook, I Love You: Recipes from the Heart, debuted earlier this year) and budding skincare entrepreneur. Anderson, along with her sons Brandon and Dylon, acquired vegan and cruelty-free skincare brand Sonsie in January 2024, a fitting exclamation point for her newfound status as a makeup-free icon.

It's quite the change for a woman who became synonymous with the dark, skinny brows and frosty pink lips of the '90s and early '00s. But Anderson is not only welcoming this no makeup shift — she is finding solace in allowing her most authentic self to shine.

"Now that I peeled it all back, maybe I'll wear a lip sometimes [or] put a tiny bit in my brows...but I'm just experimenting because I really prefer not to have anything on my skin," says the 57-year-old over Zoom, who, true to her word, is bare-skinned and radiant behind her fashionable thick glasses (a recent purchase from a drugstore in Barcelona). "I don't think I look better without makeup; I just think I look more myself without makeup. And that's kind of the phase I'm in right now."

Now, due to overwhelming consumer demand, and with Anderson clocking just under a year at the helm of Sonsie, the brand is finally debuting its first cleanser, the Sonsie Cleansing Mousse. It joins a tightly edited collection of Sonsie products, including the Super Serum, Multi-Moisture Mask, and Basic Balm. "I get to bring a little bit of home with me, because I miss my garden," says Anderson regarding the cleanser's subtle rose notes. "I travel so much lately that I've been wearing my [Sonsie] mask all day long, and I have the lip balm everywhere I go."

Marie Claire: You've made such a stir by ditching makeup for shoots and on the red carpet over the last year. What have you discovered during this new makeup-free era?

Pamela Anderson: I really just want to embrace who I am. What are my dreams? What are my goals? Not what everybody else's goals are for me, or what everybody else thinks of me. I really had to find myself again. So it was part of the journey, and I'm still in it, still discovering.

MC: What has happened with your makeup collection since becoming an advocate for bare, healthy skin?

PA: I mean, I have a lot of makeup. I still have it. It's kind of gone to the back of the drawers because I haven't been using it so much.

MC: Well your skin is absolutely glowing. Do you believe in supplements for skin health?

PA: I do. I think it's important to find out what you need, especially at my age. I never did anything hormonally for myself. I never did any bioidentical hormones or anything. I'm just taking it as it comes. I take evening primrose oil, and I have turmeric supplements, too, for inflammation —stuff to keep my immune system strong because I travel so much. I am plant based, so I take [vitamin] B12.

MC: What rituals do you engage in on a daily basis to prioritize both your mental well-being and your physical well-being?

PA: I walk every day. I walk five to ten kilometers a day outside, unless it's, like, torrential rain, then I'll hit a treadmill. But I'm outside all the time. It's really important for me to be in nature. That kind of that saves me.

I write every morning. I have my Open Journal that I share with people, and then I write for myself. That's really important. I get up really early, like four or five in the morning, and I write. Then as soon as the sun comes up, I'm outside walking, and then I come back in and I have my little ritual — cleaning my face, doing my skincare and then getting on with work.

MC: Do you dream journal? Or are you just writing down your thoughts as they come to you?

PA: More of a stream of consciousness. My kids were always like, 'Mom, you need to do a journal so you don't email us as much and give us all this advice.' [Laughs]

MC: Obviously, you've developed a lot of really amazing skincare habits for your skin health, but do you have any bad habits that you're trying to break?

PA: I drink too much coffee. I want to work on that, because I love this dandelion chicory coffee that I've created for a lot of different drinks from my cookbook.

MC: If you have time to dedicate to a spa day, what's your go-to treatment to decompress?

PA: I love a bath. I have a bath every day. Kind of a bubble bath, but more salts and oils and moisturizing [things]. Then putting on the [Sonsie] moisture mask and sit in a steamy bath and play music, like Nina Simone — something blues — and I just dream in the bathtub. That's my favorite thing to do.

MC: You've had access to so many treatments over the course of your career, but what's the strangest beauty treatment that you've ever undergone?

PA: Oh my God, well, probably leave those off the table. [Laughs] No, my mom always taught me that less is more and to just... nourish your skin instead of peeling it all away. I've always been a little bit fearful of those kind of treatments; anything too [harsh]. I have very sensitive skin, and that's why Sonsie is good, too. It's [made] for sensitive skin, so it just feels gentle but nourishing. And you're in a good place when you use it because it's cruelty-free. That really means a lot to me.

MC: Being on the other side now, are there any things that you were surprised to learn about skincare and running a skincare business?

PA: Yes, it's quite complicated. My sons are very involved in the business side of things and working with labs and and creating formulas, especially to do it the way we want to do it. We want it to be a clean beauty brand, [and] there are some hurdles you have to overcome with that. We've just got to...make sure that we don't ever lose that integrity for the product. Because I know people expect that from me. So it's really important to do the best we can, and we are. We have these conversations all the time [about] how to do better.

MC: In the skincare business, there's so much chatter about "anti-aging" and developing products that will erase the signs of aging. But to flip that, what have been a few of your favorite things about growing older?

PA: I just feel better than I ever have felt. I feel like it has to do with really accepting who I am and feeling comfortable walking out the door as me. And I hope that's [the] one message I can get across because it's life-changing. It's life-changing to feel confident in your body and in your skin and who you are and what you look like. It's very freeing. So that's what I've learned. Don't be afraid of getting older. It just gets more fun.

The Baywatch actress then shared how her makeup-free odyssey came to be. "It was at Paris Fashion Week, and I decided I was just going to a fashion show, I didn't need to compete with anybody. Like, why am I wasting three hours in a makeup chair, when I have these beautiful Vivienne Westwood clothes on?" Anderson said.

"I didn't realize anyone would even notice. Then people started coming up to me and talking to me. I thought, 'Well, this is a great message,' to really peel it back and find out who I was again."

Anderson added that ditching makeup helped her remember who she really was.

"I found I played characters my whole life," she explained. "I was painfully shy as a kid, and doing Playboy for instance was a huge leap of faith for me. I was physically sick doing it, but I didn't want to be shy anymore.

"And then I just thought, this is what my fantasy of what being a model is, or a Playmate is, or a rockstar wife is, or what anything is, I'm going to do it the best. And I'd been playing these characters along the way, and it just hit me a couple years ago, and I was like, just shaking my head going, 'Who am I?'"

As well as going makeup-free, Anderson bought and renovated her grandmother's property in Canada and has been spending time in nature in a bid to reconnect with herself.

"I just started taking it all back and then started peeking out without makeup, and then I started realizing, 'Oh, I feel great!' As me," she told Barrymore and Bertinelli. "And I don't want people to think of me as all those cartoon characters I kind of created out of protection. That's what I think I did it for, looking back."

She concluded, "This is the best time in my life. I feel so empowered and so free, and so excited about life again."

To celebrate Anderson's courage to be herself, at the end of the preview Barrymore rips out her hair extensions and throws them to the ground, sharing that her hair has been thinning as a result of perimenopause. The other two women enthusiastically cheered for the talk show host after her symbolic gesture.

Spears and Gomez shared a sweet moment back in 2021, when the Only Murders in the Building actress told the "Toxic" singer that she was welcome to come cook with her anytime as part of an Instagram exchange at the time.

They have also met in person before, at least once that we know of, both presenting on stage at the 2011 VMAs.

Pamela Anderson might be everywhere these days, but it turns out there was time after '90s hit Baywatch ended that she questioned her career trajectory. While accepting an award at the Zurich Film Festival on Friday, Oct. 4, she told Variety that being on the beachy show was "a blessing and a curse."

“I look at it now and it feels like I went from Baywatch to Broadway. I don’t know what happened in between, it’s all a big blur," Anderson said at the event. "I am just happy to be here, in this moment, because I think I have had depression for a couple of decades.”

While the TV star and Playboy model kept a relatively low profile after leaving Baywatch in 1997, she's recently had a major career renaissance, writing a bestselling memoir and starring in everything from Smashbox cosmetics ads to the new Naked Gun movie. The Canadian native is also launching a cookbook, I Love You: Recipes From the Heart, on Oct. 15.

"I always knew I was capable of more," Anderson said. "It’s great to be a part of pop culture, but it’s a blessing and a curse."

The Love, Pamela author attended the premiere of her latest movie, The Last Showgirl at the Zurich Film Festival and also received the Golden Eye award for her career. The movie's director, Gia Coppola, told WWD that Anderson is "such a wonderful, beautiful person inside and out. "The second season is about redemption, authenticity, truth and self-acceptance. I'm taking my power back, instead of giving it up. I took control of the show and figured out a way to keep to my vision, and turn it into a positive experience. I kept it real."

Anderson went on to explain that she didn't feel the production process had been transparent towards her, and that she didn't realize how much it would end up delving into her past, rather than focusing on home design.

"Before, I was thinking it was a little HGTV Canada show and that it was going to just be about sustainable design. I was wrong, unfortunately, and once again I felt slightly exploited," she admitted.

"I was allowing others to make decisions. I had no idea they’d use old photos or ex-husbands, or any of my celebrity life. It always is shocking that that part of me seems interesting at all, when I felt my weakest and my worst. Anyway, that was then and this is now."
