Gracie Abrams and Paul Mescal previously kept their relationship relatively low-key, but that has all changed in 2026. After making their very casual red carpet debut at a screening of Paul McCartney—Man on The Run in London on February 18, Mescal and Abrams arrived at the 2026 BAFTAs red carpet looking much more glamorous and just as loved-up.

Chanel is a classic choice for Abrams, who's been repping the house in her tour wardrobe and red carpet style for the last few years. At an appearance honoring Mescal's portrayal of The Bard, her beaded floral gown reads like a fit for a modern-day Juliet or Ophelia (even without an Elizabethan ruffled collar).

Abrams and Mescal—who have reportedly been dating since 2024—weren't afraid of a little PDA on the red carpet, either. Photographers captured the singer kissing her actor boyfriend on the cheek, while he smiled for the cameras. Clearly, their romance is still going strong.

The Normal People star has attempted to keep his personal life private, and rarely speaks about his relationships. While promoting Gladiator II in October 2024, Mescal told GQ, "I mean, the speculation has been kind of mad for the last X amount of years."

The actor continued, "I'm not comfortable inviting any access into that part of my life. How I am in my private life is so precious to me because I get very little of it, and it might be public interest, but it's not public-obligated information."

As a result, fans of the couple will likely feel grateful to have gotten a tiny glimpse of their star-crossed romance—and their take on coordinating couples' style.

The cast of Gladiator II met King Charles at the movie's London premiere last week. However, star Paul Mescal wasn't very excited to meet the monarch, for an extremely understandable reason. Still, the Normal People actor's reaction to meeting The King is going viral.

It was previously reported that Denzel Washington allegedly told fans he "makes his own rules" when asked to meet The King. Now, Mescal has shared his own response to greeting the monarch on the red carpet.

When asked by Variety (via X) if it was "wild" to meet the British monarch, Mescal responded, "It's definitely not something that was on my bingo cards." He continued, "I'm, like, Irish—so it's not kind of on the list of priorities."

While Mescal wasn't particularly enamored with King Charles, he acknowledged how special the moment was for the director of Gladiator II. "But it's an amazing thing for Ridley [Scott] because I know how important that is for him," Mescal told Variety. "So, to see his film celebrated in that context was pretty special."

As for what it was like meeting Charles in the flesh, Mescal explained, "I found it hard to hear exactly what was [being said]. You're just kind of nodding along and just smiling."

Unsurprisingly, Mescal's response generated some interest on social media, with some fans expressing bemusement regarding the question itself.

"Does the reporter asking the questions think the King is also the King of Ireland?" one user wrote on X. One person joked, "Paul Mescal was the only king there." Another individual wrote, "Paul Mescal bites his tongue clean off when asked opinion on meeting the King."

During an interview with CBS News, Mescal revealed that he got cast as the lead in Gladiator II after a 30-minute Zoom call with director Ridley Scott.

"I got a phone call and they were like, 'You're going to be in Gladiator II," he explained. "That's kind of massively life-altering news to receive."

As for working with the legendary director of movies like Alien, Blade Runner, and House of Gucci, Mescal told the outlet, "I think there's something that comes with the legacy of Ridley Scott."

And when it came to acting opposite Oscar-winner Denzel Washington, Mescal revealed, "Every scene I did with him was never how I expected it to go, which is the dream. It was very thrilling to be five feet in front of his face watching him do that."

Abrams and Mescal must've have gotten memo. Now, can we get this couple on a red carpet?

Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal forged an unbreakable bond on the set of 2020's Normal People.

Edgar-Jones recently spoke to Variety about her latest projects, and she was asked about her relationship with Mescal these days—since the two attended Glastonbury Festival together and did a Normal People charity event in June.

"Paul is one of my lifetime best friends," the actress told the publication. "He’s an incredibly grounded person and I am too, I think, so it’s nice to be able to have those touchstones and those people you can laugh about it with and be lighthearted with."

Edgar-Jones is serious about the "lifetime" part of that statement—the two of them met when they were really young while filming Normal People, and she very much intends for Mescal to be a part of her life for many years to come.

"We met when I was 20 and Paul was 22; I’m so excited to see where we’ll be at 32, 42, and what life will bring us," she added.

Though the actress has gone on to star in celebrated projects such as Where the Crawdads Sing, she loves that Normal People remains such a big part of her fans' psyche.

"Like at Glasto, the thing that I was recognized for the most is [Normal People] still, and usually people just say, 'It meant so much to me,'" she told Variety. "The thing I love people saying the most is, 'It made me contact my ex.' Especially when much older people say, 'I just wanted to reach out to the person I was with when I was 17 just to say you were a big part of my history and thanks for being part of who I am, the tapestry of my life.' And that I really love, because I’m a massive romantic."

Paul Mescal didn't want to be too sexy in Gladiator II.

While the many of us with a gigantic crush on the actor would probably argue this was a losing battle from the get-go, Mescal has explained in a new interview with Vanity Fair that his primary goal when training for the action movie was to be strong, not necessarily to grow into a muscular sex symbol.

"I just wanted to be big and strong and look like somebody who can cause a bit of damage when sh*t hits the fan," Mescal explained. "I think also, sometimes, one could, in striving for that perfect look, end up looking more like an underwear model than a warrior."

I totally get what he means—is that normal?

The actor went on to explain why it was especially important to him while training not to focus on looks.

"Muscles start to grow, and that can be deemed aesthetic in certain capacities, but there is something about feeling strong in your body that elicits just a different feeling," Mescal said. 'You carry yourself differently. It has an impact on you psychologically in a way that is useful for the film."

It sounds like Mescal's costar Pedro Pascal bore the brunt of the Irish actor's hours in the gym, since their characters have to fight each other in the movie. "It’s brutal, man. I call him Brick Wall Paul," Pascal told Vanity Fair. "He got so strong. I would rather be thrown from a building than have to fight him again. To go up against somebody that fit and that talented and that much younger…. Outside of [director] Ridley [Scott] being a total genius, Paul is a big reason as to why I would put my poor body through that experience."

In the long-awaited sequel to 2000's Gladiator, Mescal and Pascal star alongside Denzel Washington, Connie Nielsen and Joseph Quinn. The movie is slated for release on Nov. 22, 2024.

Natalie Portman and Paul Mescal were spotted having an absolute ball together this week in London.

In photos published by the Daily Mail, the two actors can be seen enjoying a cigarette break together outside Bar 69 in the English capital's Islington neighborhood.

In the pictures, both Portman, 42, and Mescal, 28, can be seen laughing uproariously, clearly delighted with each other's company, and are incidentally both wearing very similar white T-shirts—which makes it look like they had coordinated their outfits, though they almost certainly had not.

The pictures come just a couple months after the Black Swan actress finalized her divorce from Benjamin Millepied, whom she married in 2012 and who was alleged to have been unfaithful to Portman. They share children Aleph and Amalia.

The two reportedly separated in 2023, with a source telling People in March of this year, "Natalie is coming out of a really tough and painful year but she's come out the other side of it stronger and is finding joy in her family, friends and work."

Speaking of friends... Though I'm sure we can all agree that Portman and Mescal would make one of the most beautiful couples ever, unfortunately for the nosier folks among us, a source told People that they're just friends.

But it's not the first time Portman and Mescal have appeared to really like each other.

In December, the two shared a chat as part of Variety's Actors on Actors series. Mescal kicked off the conversation by telling Portman, "I just want to say how utterly brilliant you are in May December."

Elsewhere, the Thor actress told the Aftersun star, "That’s something I was so impressed by in All of Us Strangers. Your character’s like a dream man. He’s so emotionally available and caring and loving to the point that it was a fantasy. But you manage to make it real."

Mescal is pretty universally considered very charming, which means he ends up being linked romantically to a whole bunch of fellow Hollywood stars, though the rumors typically turn out to be unfounded. In his time, fans have speculated that he may be dating the likes of Daisy Edgar-Jones, Angelina Jolie, and Ayo Edebiri, with very little evidence to back up their claims.

Meanwhile, he was actually in a relationship with Phoebe Bridgers between 2020 and 2022.

Ever since the two Irish actors broke out by starring opposite one another in the 2020 Hulu miniseries adaptation of Sally Rooney's best-selling novel, they've remained close friends. Now four years since Normal People debuted on streaming, it appears as though the two stars are teasing another collaboration.

On Monday, May 28, Edgar-Jones took to her Instagram Stories to share a selfie with Mescal in which they revealed that they have an announcement to share with fans soon.

"We've got some news to share !!" read text on the post.

Along with an emoji of a red heart, they added, "Watch this space."

In the sweet shot of the former costars and longtime friends, the two smiled and threw up peace signs, with Edgar-Jones wearing a red sweater and Mescal dressed in a yellow jacket paired with a white T-shirt.

Mescal also reposted the image on his private Instagram.

It's unclear what Edgar-Jones and Mescal were referring to, or when we'll finally get more than information beyond a minor tease. Although, it seems unlikely that it could be related to Normal People, considering the show was billed as a miniseries and adapted the entirety of Rooney's book about two friends' intimate relationship and codependency over several years. Perhaps we can dream, though; hit miniseries do comeback after long waits nowadays (we're looking at you, Big Little Lies) and the actors were recently revisiting the show during a panel at Fastnet Film Festival in Cork, Ireland last week.

Fans have largely begun speculating that the two will appear in something new together. A handful are curious if the BFFs have been cast in the third Knives Out movie, Wake Up Dead Man, which was just announced last week, with several exciting casting announcements following (Josh O'Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Mescal's All of Us Strangers costar Andrew Scott).

Others are guessing that the two are leading one of the highly anticipated adaptations of one of beloved author Emily Henry's romance novels. Her books Beach Read, Book Lovers, and People We Meet on Vacation are all in the works to be films, and fans have long expressed their interest in Mescal in starring in at least one of them.

This actually isn't the first time Mescal has sent the internet into a tizzy over the rumored Henry rom-coms. Ayo Edebiri posted an adorable shot on Instagram of herself laughing with Mescal on St. Patrick's Day earlier this year, since the two are friends and because of her ongoing bit that she's Irish. Her photo was reposted by Henry and screenwriter Yulin Kuang, who are working on the Beach Read and People We Meet on Vacation films—leading many to wonder if that was a confirmation that they'll lead one of the movies currently in the works.

At the time, Henry remained hush-hush about any casting, but she did jokingly telling Variety, "I can’t confirm or deny anything with casting for any movie. I will say that those are two of my favorite 'Irish' actors."

While many have hoped Edebiri and Mescal will star opposite one another—especially since he said in an interview with AwardsWatch that he'd like to lead a rom-com with her—it's possible he and Edgar-Jones are teaming back up for one of the Henry films.

There might be another project in the works entirely.

For those who have long wished the chemistry they shared on-screen meant they might date IRL, it doesn't seem like they're set to announce they're dating. Edgar-Jones and Mescal have both long spoken about how much they value their friendship.

Fans think (or at least hope) that romance author Emily Henry is not-so-subtly hinting about a potential rom-com starring Ayo Edebiri and Paul Mescal.

After The Bear star posted a selfie alongside Mescal on her Instagram account in honor of St. Patrick's Day, Henry and screenwriter Yulin Kuang reposted the image to their own accounts.

The reposts quickly led fans of Henry's to assume the posts were proof Mescal and Edebiri could possibly be cast in one of the many upcoming films being adapted from Henry's romance books, Variety reports.

According to the same Variety report, People We Meet on Vacation, Beach Read and Book Lovers are all in some variation of development and could, fans hope, possibly be films that could feature Edebiri and Mescal.

In a previous interview with Variety, Henry said she could neither "confirm or deny anything with casting for any movie."

"I will say that those two are my favorite 'Irish' actors," she continued, alluding to Edebiri's ongoing gag in which she pretends to be Irish and speaks during interviews in an Irish accent. (Honestly, you cannot help but stan.)

Henry did confirm, however, that she has thought about the pair partnering up for an upcoming rom-com in some capacity.

“I do. I think that they would be amazing. I actually saw them being discussed (online) for several different roles—and I definitely have a favorite," she continued. "But it’s fun, because different adaptations would either have one of them playing to type, or one of those adaptations would have them both playing to type, and one of them would have them both playing against type. It’s an interesting thing. I mean, they’re great, they could do anything.”

In 2023, while promoting his film All of Us Strangers, Mescal revealed he would love to act in a rom-com opposite Edebiri.

"I think in the next five years I'm going to set myself a challenge to do maybe a rom-com with Ayo or something like that would be cool," he said at the time.

While Henry is remaining hush-hush about casting for the upcoming films adapted from her romance novels, she is quick to assure fans she's listening.

"They also know that I’m always watching my readers and I want them to be happy," she told Variety. "So in my involvement in every single adaptation, my main goal is to represent the readers’ interests."

After Ayo Edebiri posted a cozy photo with Paul Mescal on St. Patrick's Day, fans of the Irish actor and the (honorary) Irish actress are wondering if the pair are more than friends. But fans hoping for a new celebrity couple to 'ship might be out of luck.

Sources close to the stars told TMZ the two are "just friends," despite the internet's hope something more could be blossoming. The stars are all smiles in the photo Edebiri posted, but there's nothing to suggest it's more than a platonic relationship.

Mescal isn't Edebiri's only new Hollywood bestie, either. Last Thursday, The Bear actress and her Bottoms co-star Kaia Gerber revealed they have matching tattoos, though they haven't shown off the new ink just yet.

Sydney Sweeney's career is on fire, but there's one actor she has yet to star with in a movie, and I'd personally really love to see it happen.

"Your film with Glen Powell, Anyone But You, was a box office hit—who's another leading man you'd like to star opposite in your next rom-com?" BuzzFeed asked Sweeney as part of a video Q&A in which she plays with puppies.

Sweeney—who rose to fame following her roles in Euphoria and The White Lotus—sat down with BuzzFeed and the puppies to promote her new movie Madame Web, in which she stars alongside Dakota Johnson as the titular character.

For the Los Angeles premiere, both Johnson and Sweeney opted for some absolutely incredible spiderweb-inspired dresses.

Johnson wore a breathtaking "naked" dress made out of metallic netting, by Gucci, and made headlines with the gorgeous look.

Meanwhile, Sweeney opted for a black sequined "webbing" dress with a naked bust and opaque black skirt, which was custom-made for her by Oscar de la Renta.

Moments after Taylor Swift announced her latest upcoming album during the 2024 Grammys, fans and viewers alike noticed some not-so-subtle connections between the title of the album and one of her exes.

After taking home her 13th Grammy for best pop vocal album for her album Midnights, Swift announced that she will be releasing a new album titled The Tortured Poets Department on April 19.

"I want to say thank you to the members of the Recording Academy for voting this way. But I know that the way that the Recording Academy voted is a direct reflection of the passion of the fans," Swift said while accepting her award. "So I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I've been keeping from you for the last two years, which is that my brand new album comes out on April 19."

Shortly after, die-hard Swiftie fans and Grammy viewers alike recalled a fun little fact about Swift's ex, Joe Alwyn: He is a member of a so-called "tortured man club group chat."

Coincidence? I think not, Swiftie fans. We know better. As reported by People, after Alwyn opened up about his "special" group chat on WhatsApp in May, 2022, friend Paul Mescal said that a "third member" of the chat, Andrew Scott, actually "started the group."

"He's just on it every day. He's just on it by himself," Mescal said at the time.

"Just messaging himself good mornings," Alwyn quipped, before adding that they were "both in the Sally Rooney universe and crossed over with Lenny Abrahamson. We were so lucky to have that experience."

These poignant lyrics took on a new meaning after Swift announced the album first on the Grammys stage and then via instagram and X, formerly known as Twitter.

In both posts, Swift shares what are presumably lyrics to her soon-to-be-released songs, including one eyebrow-raising line in particular: "Muses acquired like bruises."

Swift and Alwyn broke up in early 2023 after six years of dating, according to Entertainment Tonight who was the first to report the former couple's split.

A source later told People at the time that Swift and Alwyn ultimately split due to "differences in their personalities."

In a LADbible interview, Mescal and his costar Andrew Scott answered a variety of nonsensical questions about their preferences and interests. One such question asked the actors whether or not they agreed with the statement "Someone running up the stairs on all fours would give me the ick."

Surprisingly, neither star had a problem with the visual, particularly if the person in question was doing it as part of a bit. Mescal, however, took things a step further, describing another scenario where he has a problem with the way someone walks up the stairs.

Mescal is keen to discuss Portman's latest film, May December, which is gathering a lot of attention and Oscar buzz. In return, Portman brings up the topic of the intimate scenes in Mescal's latest film, All of Us Strangers.

All of Us Strangers stars Mescal and Andrew Scott, and is a British romantic fantasy film, based on the 1987 novel, Strangers, by Taichi Yamada. It features a romance between Mescal and Scott, and some hot and heavy scenes that have got the internet all flustered.

Portman notes how the sex scenes "were very hot but also very tender. Why do we see that so rarely, and particularly for same-sex relationships?"

Mescal thoughtfully answers, "Andrew Scott’s character, Adam, who is in his mid-40s, has a difficult relationship to sex. My character serves as a safe landing space for him to re-explore his sexuality. I think sex in film, when it can be healing and sexy at the same time, that’s when it’s at its best."

Through the years, we have seen countless powerful performances by Mescal, and intimate scenes that feel so real and vulnerable. I have no doubt that his performance in All of Us Strangers will evoke the same healing energy, and contribute towards the queer representation we need in films.

The actors then discuss Portman's sex scene with Charles Melton in May December and the contrasting coldness of it. Mescal admits that the cruelty of her character got to him, and says, "My stomach dropped."

Portman then proves she is as chronically online as the rest of us, as she asks Mescal, "How much time do you spend thinking about the Roman Empire?"

Mescal answers honestly that he thinks about it, "All day, every day."

Unfortunately, this is in reference to the new film he is currently shooting, Gladiator. The rest of mankind doesn't have this excuse to be thinking about the Roman Empire so much!

Paul Mescal was the perfect casting choice for the vulnerable, charming, hot, confused, (did I say hot?) character, Connell, he portrays in the BBC adaptation of Sally Rooney's critically-acclaimed novel, Normal People. Not only is his acting brilliant in the 12-episode series dropping on Hulu April 29, Mescal physically embodies what Rooney pictured Connell to look like when she wrote the book. "When she kind of gave me her blessing, that was a major weight off my shoulders," Mescal revealed to GQ U.K.

If you're unfamiliar with the novel, Normal People is about the complicated relationship between two 17-year-old Irish high school students, Marianne (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and Connell (Mescal), who continue to find their way back to each other over the span of four years. While watching Normal People, it's hard to believe that this is Mescal's television debut. In an interview with BBC U.K., Mescal revealed he was more nervous to meet Rooney than he was during the audition.

"I met Sally for a coffee in Dublin after I’d been cast as Connell, and I think I was more nervous walking to the coffee shop to meet her than the audition. These characters have been created in her brain and sat there for five or six years. She was so gracious and it’s such an incredible stamp of approval. It gave me so much confidence going into the shoot when she said she was happy," he says. "Sally didn’t come on set a huge amount, but when she did she had an incredible way. I can imagine it can be nerve wracking for everyone on set when the creator of the story is coming on set, but she had a really gentle presence and was very positive, it just filled me with loads of confidence, which is such a power."

He also enjoyed playing soccer, a.k.a. football.

Mescal reportedly had to give up the sport due to a jaw injury, even though he wasn't supposed to play the sport in the first place while acting in college. "We had a match the Saturday before starting college and I went out to catch the ball and broke my jaw," Mescal told GQ. "I had to make up a lie and said that I got mugged in my place of work, a garage.”

He continues, "If I ever got the opportunity to take a year out [of acting] before I become old and unfit, I'd definitely go back and play for a year."

Family is clearly important to him!

Mescal's artsy Instagram is complete with photos of him and his family. Mescal has a sister, Nell, and a brother, Donnacha.

Mescal has a lot of love for his co-star, Daisy Edgar-Jones.

As far as we know, Mescal is single, but he continues to show his love and support for his co-star, Daisy Edgar-Jones. "So that's a wrap on normal people.... I've no words for how grateful I am right now....," he wrote on Instagram in October 2019. "Thank you to everyone at @elementdistribution for making my dreams come true... @daisyedgarjones I couldn't have asked to have worked with a better human being... You are truly incredible...now we drink ❤️"

He's very humble on Twitter.
