In recent years, Courteney Cox has sharpened her focus to a project outside of acting: her luxury household product line, Homecourt. She knows how many celebrity brands are out there, but the actress and cover star of Marie Claire's Redefining Wellness Issue isn't letting the daunting number stand in her way.

“I used to do a lot of things out of fear, even making connections with people, checking in with people…not taking a chance, a risk,” she tells Marie Claire. “Now, fear doesn't play nearly as big of a part in my life. I push myself more.”

But one of those fears still remains: A messy room. Cox is a certified clean freak, but during our latest episode of Pop Quiz, our series in which we ask burning questions of our cover stars, we couldn't help but notice her vocabulary leans on the dirty side. (In all fairness, Cox's expletives came after a balloon popped loudly in her ear, so we can't blame her for her reaction.)

With an air of unfiltered honesty, Emma Chamberlain can easily be described as the Internet's best friend. The Gen-Z icon and cover star of Marie Claire's September issue boasts over 20 million followers on social media, has a hit podcast, and is the face of some of the biggest names in fashion, but does she let her star status get to her head? No, because to her, she isn't a celebrity. 

“I've read a comment or two [saying] Emma's pretending that she's not famous," she tells Marie Claire. "And it's like, no! I just don’t see myself that way. I genuinely do not and cannot.” Even as she's made the gradual shift into the fashion sphere, Chamberlain has kept that humble attitude, a rare quality among the well-outfitted crowd, says creative director Caroline Gaimari. "In fashion, one might pretend they’ve always belonged, but that’s just not Emma’s style.”

Chamberlain's down-to-earth personality is on full display in the latest episode of MC's Pop Quiz, our series in which we ask burning questions of our cover stars. During the game, we asked Chamberlain the advice she would give to her younger self. "I guess I would just tell my younger self not to rush growing up, not to feel any pressure to have things figured out," she says. "It all takes patience and I had none of it and it was uncomfortable." 

She also got into some interesting personal tidbits, revealing the word that makes her cringe; how she tapped into her entrepreneurial spirit selling erasers; and her high-key obsession with Napoleon Dynamite.

You may be wondering what's next for triple-threat talent Ariana DeBose. Still riding the high of winning the Best Supporting Actress Oscar last year, the cover star of Marie Claire's Ambition Issue has eight projects in the works including Disney's animated musical Wish and her first foray into a superhero franchise with Marvel’s Kraven the Hunter. But despite a hectic schedule, there's still always more work to be done. 

“I want to make things that not only I can be proud of, but that my communities would also be proud of,” DeBose tells Marie Claire. “I choose to use my ambition to make art to champion others. I like that I get to work that way. It’s a luxury to work that way, and I know how privileged I am.”  

That same tenacity is on full display in the latest installment of Pop Quiz, our series in which we ask burning questions of our cover stars. During the game, we asked DeBose about the one thing every woman should try at least once and she clapped back, "Who am I to tell a woman what they should do? Do what you fucking want, how about that?" She adds, "Even if it's just for a day, an hour. That's what they should do."

DeBose also shared her more light-hearted side in Pop Quiz. Between bouts of  infectious laughter and quirky snorts, she showed off her favorite dance move, revealed her "gremlin" voice, and sang a few bars of Donna Summer and Tangled.

For actress, producer, and director Kerry Washington, finding enlightenment doesn't mean slowing down. This last year, she starred opposite Delroy Lindo in the newly-released Hulu dramedy, UnPrisoned, in which she also served as producer. Meanwhile, she's busy running her production company Simpson Street, which she founded in 2016, and working to find new projects that overturn the idea of what a protagonist looks like. 

In Marie Claire's Identity Issue cover story, Washington chalks up her work ethic to her hometown of the Bronx. “We are sort of the underdog borough,” she tells Marie Claire. “I don’t think you’ll ever meet somebody from the Bronx who doesn’t have a little bit of a hustle. We are always ready to build, create, figure it out.”

That Bronx-girl attitude shines in the latest episode of MC's Pop Quiz, our series in which we ask burning questions of our cover stars. During the game, Washington revealed the advice she would give to her younger self. "I would want to tell myself that it's going to be okay and to just try to enjoy the journey, but I know some of that desire and drive is part of how I have the life I have today," she admits. 

Washington also admits during the game what's on her so-called "live it list," her go-to late-snack snack, and her secret talent, which we bet you'll be surprised by. "I'm learning that I have a really good capacity to love lizards cause my son has a lizard named Spiral," she shares. "And I love Spiral more than I thought I could love an amphibian...reptile? Not sure, but I love him."

Jessica Chastain has been on a roll through Hollywood and beyond, with no plans to slow down. Just this year, she starred opposite Eddie Redmayne in Netflix's The Good Nurse, announced her headlining role in Broadway's A Doll's House, and released her latest project, George & Tammy, on Showtime. For Chastain, who is Marie Claire's Holiday Issue cover star, acting and producing (she founded the production company Freckle Films in 2017) is her way of telling women's stories.

"I use my job to try to celebrate women, but also celebrate women as human beings. Which means, yes, I can play characters that are flawed and do terrible things sometimes," she tells Marie Claire. "It's like my job is to constantly remind society that women are human beings."

Chastain's passion for women is visible in her episode of Pop Quiz, where we ask our cover stars to answer questions about themselves. During the game, Chastain revealed  she's a fan of Joan Didion's Slouching Towards Bethlehem, her guilty pleasure on TV is The Real Housewives, and the one thing women should try at least once in their lives: "Everything!" 

Another topic she didn't shy away from? Her most star-struck moment. While chatting up Anne Hathaway (as one does), Chastain turned around and came face-to-face with the Oprah Winfrey, and her reaction was so relatable. "I try to avoid her now because I really embarrassed myself," Chastain admits. "I looked at her and started crying and I think I said, as I was crying, 'You raised me,' which is probably an uncomfortable thing for a stranger to tell you."

Mindy Kaling is instantly recognizable thanks to her on-screen performances in The Mindy Project, Late Night, and The Office, but some of her most revealing work actually comes from the projects where she's positioned behind the camera. In Marie Claire’s August cover story, Kaling shares why it was so important to her to explore wellness themes like mental health in her latest series, HBO’s The Sex Life of College Girls and the Netflix hit Never Have I Ever. 

“When I write shows about Indian women and what they're interested in, I want to do something original, but I also don't want to shy away from things that I've seen before: obsession with success; elitism about schools,” she tells Marie Claire. “Those are things that were real in my family, and I've been dealing with that. But also what's really important was destigmatizing mental health.” 

Another topic Kaling wants more women to feel comfortable talking about? Money. In the latest episode of Marie Claire’s Pop Quiz, our cover star sat down to answer some more questions about herself and shared what it is that makes her feel the most powerful. "This is a simple answer, but I think it’s something women are embarrassed to talk about: Being wealthy. My power came from me having enough money that I can have independence and that’s what makes me feel confident."  

The new Propel ambassador also shares the small and simple ways she practices wellness in her day-to-day: drinking tons of water, going for runs, calling her dad, and chatting with her daughter.

Dakota Johnson is Marie Claire's summer 2020 cover star, and she knows exactly what she wants. In the issue, she discusses her upcoming film, The High Note, and why she carefully chooses every project she works on.

“For a long time, I’d do a movie and have no say,” she tells Marie Claire. “I could go into something, and it’ll be one thing, and then it comes out as a totally different thing. As an artist, you’re like, ‘What the fuck?’ I definitely want to have my craft, my artistry, and my ideas respected and tossed around. I want to be part of the process.” She continues, “I also have really specific taste.”

That specific taste is visible in Johnson's episode of Pop Quiz, where MC asks cover stars to answer questions about themselves. During the game, Johnson reveals the movies that make her cry, the best gift she's ever received (it has to do with her 30th birthday), the last book she's read, and the unexpected word that makes her cringe (hint: It's not moist).
