If Palvin's latest look taught me anything, it's that my relationship with sundresses and ballet flats might be the longest one I ever have. I'm beyond happy with that. The slightly oversize style featured traditional lapels and a few undone buttons, but no belt. She closed its single-breasted bodice herself, hiding a white, pinstripe button-down underneath.

Baggy, chocolate-brown trousers emerged from beneath the trench's calf-grazing hem. Then, Palvin traded mom-approved sneaker trends like Puma Speedcats or New Balances for a Converse-coded pair from Autry.

Celebrity moms-to-be are at giving me all the spring style inspiration this week, and I'm not even expecting. First, Aubrey Plaza wore not one, but two shoe trends with her growing baby bump. Then on April 17, Natalie Portman draped a chic cape coat over hers, two hours after revealing she's pregnant with her third child.

The exciting news broke while Portman and her partner, Tanguy Destable, were in Paris, where they'll be spending her pregnancy: "In France, they consider full-term to be 41 weeks rather than 40, so I guess I get an extra week to be pregnant this time around," she exclusively told Harper's Bazaar. The Oscar winner wasted no time declaring herself a maternity muse to watch in an army green jacket and straight-leg jeans.

The base layer had all the makings of a pea coat, including a flat collar, cascading buttons, and a thigh-length hem. However, an additional, high-low cape made it a lot more Parisian than your average layer. (Marie Claire fashion director Sara Holzman called capes like this a "a symbol of Parisian chic" as early as Sept. 2024.) Gusts of wind revealed the top layer's houndstooth lining, which confirmed it's a vintage, circa-1970s Hermès cape. A secondhand store called Fallon just listed it two weeks ago.

It seems living in Paris has left a mark on Portman's denim drawer. The wide-leg enthusiast entered her straight, stovepipe jeans era with a mid-wash pair. (Perhaps the American in Paris got her hands on Holzman's two-year-old report, where she also suggested wearing capes over jeans.) Portman still brought a piece of American dressing with her, though, as proven by her black cowboy boots.

It's been a minute since Portman joined the maternity-wear scene. For some perspective, Rihanna had all three of her children since Portman welcomed her second child (daughter Amalia Millepied) in 2017. While she was, well, not pregnant, Rihanna changed maternity closets everywhere by styling her pre-baby staples, just a few sizes larger.

Last time around, an off-duty Portman preferred traditional maternity pieces like leggings, skinny jeans, or tunics, all with extra room for her bump. On red carpets, however, the Black Swan star wasn't afraid of bump-forward fashion. Queen Elizabeth II was born on April 21, 1926. However, when the Queen Mother was five months pregnant with Elizabeth, she was involved in a terrible accident, which could have changed the course of history completely.

As reported by the Daily Mail, in January 1926, Elizabeth [the future Queen Mother] was five months pregnant with her first baby. Only by a miracle did she ever gave birth to the child." Per the outlet, the Queen Mother "was involved in a serious car crash, thrown to the floor of the chauffeur-driven limousine she was traveling in." At five months pregnant, this must have been a truly terrifying experience for the royal.

According to the publication, the accident was caused by "a reckless motorist" who dangerously overtook the royal's limousine. In order to avoid a potentially fatal accident, the Royal Family's chauffeur "smashed into a parked bus." Basically, the crash could have "devastated the Royal Family" if the driver hadn't acted so quickly.

The Daily Mail reported that the Queen Mother "was bruised and severely shaken" following the accident. Had the crash been fatal, "the whole course of history stood on the brink of change," the outlet explained. Luckily, both the Queen Mother and her baby—the future Queen Elizabeth II—survived the accident.

At the time, the palace had reportedly managed to keep the Queen Mother's pregnancy relatively private. Rather than confirming her pregnancy, a statement was reportedly released calling the accident a "non-event," the publication wrote.

Being involved in a car crash while five months pregnant must have been extremely traumatizing for the Queen Mother. Ultimately, her injuries were thankfully rather minor, and baby Elizabeth was born on April 21, 1926.

On Saturday, December 6, Variety hosted its annual Hitmakers Brunch, where Sabrina Carpenter was honored with the Hitmaker of the Year award. Sofia Richie Grainge also attended the music industry event, where she demonstrated her elevated maternity style on the red carpet.

Just last week, Princess Beatrice co-hosted an event in honor of the "Every Week Counts" campaign before World Prematurity Day. During an appearance on "The Borne Podcast" on November 17, the royal discussed her experiences giving birth to a preterm baby, including the loneliness she felt during pregnancy.

While giving birth to a preterm baby was undoubtedly scary and lonely, Princess Beatrice has since found comfort in the parenting community. "My favorite thing about being a [mom] is the fact that it's like a secret, you know, it almost feels like a secret club of sharing stories," she explained on the podcast.

Beatrice continued, "I love the fact that Borne is there to support [mothers] when they're going through something incredibly traumatic." Through her charitable work, Princess Beatrice is using her difficult personal experiences to help other people who might be going through the same thing, which is hugely important.

Jennifer Lawrence isn't afraid to be candid about the difficulties she's encountered as a mother. After revealing that motherhood "feels like a blister" during an appearance at Cannes Film Festival, the Oscar-winning star has reflected on the "anxiety" she experienced as a new mom.

In an interview with The New York Times to promote Lynne Ramsay movie Die My Love, Lawrence discussed parenting, and welcoming her second child with husband Cooke Maroney. "Having kids is sacrificial," she explained. "It's gratifying and it's amazing and rewarding, but it's not not sacrificial." The Hunger Games star continued, "I'd never had to say no to something before that I really wanted to do. I could just go do it."

Noting that becoming a mom has forced her to reconsider acting projects, she told the outlet, "I do wrestle. It feels vain and selfish that I love being a creative person as much as I do. My kids and my family are more important, obviously, but they feel like an equal part of me. I would not be complete if I couldn't make movies. I just wouldn't."

"I had so much anxiety when my second was born that the only way I could escape was in stories and books, and in particular the American Revolution. I really lost myself in ideas. In Andrew Morton's book, Diana: Her True Story—In Her Own Words, the princess recalled attending Prince William's christening. Having welcomed her first child on June 21, 1982, Princess Diana was experiencing postpartum depression, and she felt as though her husband's family didn't support her.

"Nobody asked me when it was suitable for William," Diana said of the date and time of the christening (via the Daily Mail). "11 a.m. couldn't have been worse. Endless pictures of The Queen, Queen Mother, Charles, and William. I was excluded totally that day."

Diana further explained, "I felt desperate because I had literally just given birth. William was only 6 weeks old and it was all decided around me. Hence the ghastly pictures." Reflecting on the most difficult aspects of the day, Diana told Morton, "I wasn't very well and I just blubbed my eyes out. William started crying too. Well, he just sensed that I wasn't exactly hunky dory."

Further conflict arose when it came to giving William his moniker. "Charles wanted to call his first son Arthur and his second Albert, after Queen Victoria's consort," Morton revealed in his biography of Diana. "William and Harry were Diana's choices while her husband's preferences were used in their children's middle names."

Sadly, it sounds as though William's christening wasn't the favorable moment it should have been for his mother Diana.

Since leaving the White House, Michelle Obama has been pretty candid about her life and open about her marriage to Barack Obama. Following the former president's revelation that he'd been "trying to dig" himself out of a "deep deficit" in his marriage, Michelle has shared the reason why she's "so glad" she doesn't have any sons with her husband.

During the June 18 episode of her podcast, "IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson," the former First Lady shared why she was grateful to have two daughters with Barack. "I'm so glad I didn't have a boy," Michelle explained (via Us Weekly). "He would have been a Barack Obama [the Third]. Oh, no. I would have felt for him."

Robinson, who is Michelle's brother and co-host, responded by telling her she could "just borrow [his] boys," her nephews, whenever she wanted to.

The Becoming author also appreciated her two daughters, who were both "good sleepers." "I'm thinking, 'We're gonna get a crazy one,'" she told Kelce. "It's just the roll of the dice."

As one of the most famous women in the world, Princess Diana was regularly photographed by members of the paparazzi. In a new interview, royal photographer Arthur Edwards—whom Diana once called her "favorite"—has reflected on his career, including the moments he isn't proud of.

As part of The Sun's "Life Stories" YouTube series, Edwards revealed, "When I started doing the job, I wasn't bothered one way about the Royal Family." He continued, "The thing about the newspaper business is you can't come back empty handed, editors don't want excuses, they want pictures." As a result, Edwards was sometimes "aggressive" in his approach, and even did things he'd "be ashamed of today."

Pointing to one low point in particular, Edwards said, "I went to the Bahamas in 1982 while Diana was pregnant with William and photographed her in a bikini on the beach with Charles." He continued, "There would be uproar over that now."

Explaining how he got the infamous photograph, the 84-year-old revealed, "It was probably one of the things I regret because they didn't see me as I was hiding in the bushes."

Edwards went on to develop a good working relationship with Princess Diana and other members of the Royal Family. Discussing his technique for balancing being a press photographer with diplomacy, Edwards told the outlet, "Most people are nice and if you're pleasant you'll get a similar reception back is what I have always found."

The photographer continued, "One of the most iconic photographs I took of Diana in the see-through skirt in 1980 was taken because I traveled to the nursery she was working at and asked her nicely...I always say, you get more with sugar than you do with vinegar."

The photographer even had a funny exchange with the former Princess of Wales after photographing her during her royal tour of Australia in 1983. Edwards shared, "During the tour, Diana asked me how much I was paid for the pictures and I said, 'Nothing, ma'am...I just got expenses like I was doing a court case.'" According to Edwards, Diana responded by smiling and saying, "Pass me the Kleenex." He continued, "She wasn't offended, so I felt a lot better about it after that."

Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson attended the premiere of their forthcoming thriller movie, Die, My Love, at Cannes Film Festival on May 17. At a press conference the following day, Lawrence and Pattinson both reflected on the process of becoming parents, and whether welcoming children had changed their approaches to acting.

Die, My Love is based on the 2017 novel of the same name by Ariana Harwicz. The story follows a woman who, after becoming a mother for the first time, experiences postpartum depression and psychosis.

While Lawrence is mother to two children with husband Cooke Maroney, Pattinson has one daughter with partner Suki Waterhouse. At a Cannes Film Festival press conference on Sunday, May 18, Lawrence told attendees (via People), "Having children changes everything. It changes your whole life. It's brutal and incredible."

Pattinson concurred, saying, "I think, in the most unexpected ways, having a baby gives you the biggest trove of energy and inspiration afterward. It's a different kind of energy."

For Lawrence, the experience of becoming a mother has majorly impacted the way she works. "Not only do they go into every decision of if I'm working, where I'm working, when I'm working—they've taught me," she told the audience. "I mean, I didn't know that I could feel so much, and my job has a lot to do with emotions, and they've opened up the world to me."

The Red Sparrow actress continued, "It's almost like feeling like a blister or something, so sensitive." She subsequently said of her two children, "They've changed my life, obviously, for the best, and they've changed me creatively. I highly recommend having kids, if you want to be an actor."

Pattinson attempted to downplay his opinions as a father, saying, "It's literally just like what Jennifer said. I'm here just to support." Opening up about the daughter he shares with Waterhouse, the Twilight icon did note, "Ever since she was born, it's reinvigorated the way I approach work, and yeah, you're a completely different person the next day."

In her debut memoir, Second Life: Having a Child in the Digital Age, author and critic at large for The New York Times Amanda Hess explores the convergence of technology and pregnancy. The below excerpt from Second Life, out May 6, examines her fascination with the Free Birth Society and its claims supporting "unassisted birth."

When I first heard about freebirthing, I was sitting on a grassy knoll. This was early in my first pregnancy. I met up with my friend Laura in the park, and she mentioned an article she had read about women who gave birth with no medical assistance. No hospital, no doctor, no midwife. The women birthed the babies and caught them themselves. On purpose. Some of these women refused pregnancy tests, blood draws, and ultrasounds. They called it “freebirth,” and the article had been published after one of their babies died. “Actually,” Laura said, “maybe you don’t want to read that article right now.” I pulled it up as soon as we parted, blades of grass still imprinted on my thighs.

The piece, by NBC News internet culture reporter Brandy Zadrozny, was about a 28-eight-year-old woman named Judith who had also been pregnant for the first time. Judith carried the baby weeks past her due date. She ignored a doctor’s recommendation that she induce labor in a hospital. Instead, she said she consulted strangers who hung out on Facebook groups dedicated to “unassisted birth” and steeled herself by mainlining episodes of a podcast produced by the Free Birth Society. She loved one episode where a woman birthed a baby in a yurt with only her dog acting as what she called a “midwolf.”

“I became obsessed,” Judith told NBC. “I would just wonder, ‘What’s my story going to be like?’ and think, ‘I want my story to be as badass as their stories.’” When Judith finally went into labor, her baby’s movements stalled. When her water broke, it was stained brown. By the time she made it to the hospital, her baby was dead. “Your whole responsibility is to protect your child, and I didn’t before he even had a chance to breathe,” Judith said. “I think I brainwashed myself with the internet.”

I promptly bleached Judith and her baby from my memory. My perfectly normal pregnancy had given me enough to worry about; my mind didn’t have any space for her remote and tragic experience. Then, when I was 29 weeks pregnant, a routine ultrasound detected a mysterious fetal abnormality on the screen. Over the next four week, I would be assigned a genetic counselor, a prenatal psychologist, an obstetrician who specialized in high-risk pregnancies. One doctor would extract amniotic fluid from my uterus with a long needle and ship it to a lab for testing. Another would lead me to an MRI machine to map the architecture of my baby’s brain. Reporting to the prenatal imaging center became like a second career. Every day I dragged my body to some new medical scene. Every night my baby tapped and stretched from the inside. I needed to disassociate from my body, my pregnancy, my unknown future that was approaching with terrifying speed. I called up "The Free Birth Society Podcast" on my phone.

Inside the podcast app, I found a thumbnail picture of a white woman sitting cross-legged at the water’s edge, pregnant in a bikini, her arms lifted exultantly above her head. She was the podcast’s host, Emilee Saldaya, a former doula in Los Angeles who had since rejected the “medical model” of birth, founded her society, and built a homestead in North Carolina that became the home base for its work. She launched the show in 2017, in anticipation of her own motherhood journey. “I wanted to absorb as many stories of women birthing in their power that I could as I prepared for my own birth,” she said.

I selected an episode from March and listened at 2x speed. A cabasa rustled. A drum bonged. A woman sang: “Into the wild I go, into the wild I am. It’s been a while, freedom chiiiiiiiiiiild—since I left my roots back home.” The theme was a woo-woo hymnal, but when Saldaya started talking, she had a wry millennial podcast voice, like she was there to dish on the pitfalls of modern dating or recap a sexy true crime. She sounded like a friend, or the kind of internet personality I could pretend was my friend. “Today I have my friend Simone,” Saldaya said. “Simone came to choose freebirth from watching her own cat give birth and tells us how it all began with the thought, If a cat can do it, I can too. And so she did.”

Simone and her housecat were pregnant at the same time, and one day Simone came upon her pet mid-delivery. She said, “The cat had seven kittens by herself. And that totally inspired me.” Simone watched YouTube videos about potential birth complications and decided that they were rare, “unless you’re, you know, completely unhealthy and not in tune with your body.” After all, “we as a society wouldn’t be here without this instinct of birthing.” She added, “I’m a woman, I know that this is what I’m supposed to do.” Her prenatal care consisted of brewing herbal teas, practicing yoga, and sunbathing. When her water broke, she labored under a tree as her partner played the didgeridoo and watched cord-cutting tutorials on YouTube. She called her contractions “waves.” When the baby arrived, “I was completely at bliss. I didn’t know anything else,” Simone said. “We were all bloody and all juicy with womb juice all over us.” And Saldaya said: “It’s just such a beautiful image.”

I debated the freebirthers in my head. A cat is not even a primate, I thought. And, What would a cat midwife even do in an “assisted” cat birth? Claw the baby out? By the way, the mere fact that human life persists on Earth is not helpful in calculating my personal risk in childbirth, because regardless of the persistence of “we as a society,” I, specifically, wish to live. And yet, Simone had just produced a baby with the help of only a video-sharing platform. I could sense my reasoned arguments crumpling beneath the intensity of her physical achievement.

It was Simone’s commentary on birth complications— they do not occur unless you’re, you know, completely unhealthy and not in tune with your body—that really irritated me. The abnormal ultrasound had produced an endless supply of self-blame. I wondered whether I had made some imperceptible mistake during pregnancy that was now manifesting in the body of my child. But when Simone articulated my inner monologue, she cut it loose and handed it to me to inspect more closely. It sounded so mean when she said it out loud.

As I waited for my doctor’s call, I searched the internet for more stories of unassisted births. I knew that the percentage of people who had babies this way was just a sliver in the pie chart of humanity, but inside my phone they grew to populate an entire world. I followed witchy Instagram accounts and requested access to locked Facebook communities. I agreed to their demands: No induction discussion. No assistance talk. Don’t use words like hospital, OB, birth center, midwife, induce etc. Don’t talk about birth related medical professionals or their opinions. The freebirthers spoke of physiological births, ecstatic births, and pain-free supernatural childbirths. They prepared for them with wild pregnancies, deprogramming, plant medicine, and energy work. They gave birth in a cabin, or a teepee, or a stream. They had a name for my pregnancy, too: I was birthing in captivity. Inside my doctor’s office, I stared at my own window to nature: a framed stock image of dewdrops suspended on a leaf.

Saldaya was right about this: the stories of the births on her podcast of steel-willed women birthing in nature were compelling and dramatic. “I love the image of you outside,” Saldaya told Simone, “all bloody on the grass on a blanket with your baby and your man.” Simone’s partner had filmed the whole thing. I knew that this was not for me; I did not want my husband to play a wind instrument like some storybook imp, nor did I want sand anywhere near my dilating cervix. But when I tried to envision my own birth, nothing came up. My future hid behind a hospital curtain.

The medical system had its own obscure birthing vocabulary, too, terms I had to look up: induction, Pitocin, episiotomy, Foley balloon. The freebirth stories smudged out my mental images of hospitals and machines. There were no forceps or scalpels to hasten their childbirth plots. I wanted access to these technologies to get my baby out safely, but clearly, I did not want to have to think about them. I could not even imagine how they might be deployed. These women had crafted their pregnancies into epics and cast themselves as conquering heroes, and I consumed their stories like they were streaming on Bravo.

Judith had come to the Free Birth Society for inspiration as she tried to create her own “badass” unassisted-birth story. And I was there because—why? I wasn’t listening to a podcast about birthing in the hospital, preparing to bring my own child into the world. My pregnancy’s complication remained undiagnosed. I appreciated everything my doctors were doing to treat me and my baby, but the actual experience of becoming a scientific subject consumed me with terror and rage. The freebirthers made me feel more confident in my decision to submit to the medical system’s protocols. Okay — they made feel smug about it. Because I came to them through Judith’s stillbirth, they represented my greatest fear: that a choice I made could bring about my baby’s death. Their strangeness contained this fear, kept it at a comfortable distance. As long as they were whispering in my ears, I could suppress my unease at the medicalization of my own pregnancy. But when an episode ended, my anxiety crept right back in.

By the time I got pregnant, in 2020, the “birth story” had become an inescapable element of human reproduction. Childbirth was not just a natural process, or a medical event, but an experience—a climactic moment in the narrative of the pregnant person’s life. A birth could be choreographed, stage-managed or even filmed in real-time and posted to social media. And if a typical birth represented a good story, a freebirth was positively mythic. It was woman vs. nature, woman vs. society, woman vs. herself. Freebirth aligned with the imperatives of social media platforms to push content to its furthest extremes. It could be styled as a feat of physical and mental but also commercial control. If the birth went viral, it could even launch a personal brand.

The Freebirth Society’s birth stories were just the free tier of a vast digital marketing project. I signed up for the society’s email list and my inbox filled with pitches for its many programs, which it called containers and offerings: in addition to joining a vetted private membership community ($499/year), I was invited to download an online course called the Complete Guide to Freebirth ($399); attend an intensive retreat called the Midwife Within ($3,000); and enroll in the Radical Birth Keeper School, where I could learn to become not a midwife or a doula but a sort of non-medical attendant of other women’s births ($6,000). In 2024, the Radical Birth Keeper School was upgraded to a new offering, called the MatriBirth Midwifery Institute. Think independent midwifery meets leading-edge business school meets life-changing self-mastery tools, but of course, still with no actual midwifery certification (and now $12,000).

I could understand how, as American healthcare became a commodity, some women would find the product so poor that they would eventually refuse to keep buying it. And I was newly aware of how traumatizing the medical system could be. But there was something glib about the conversion of freebirth into a content strategy, in how it styled itself as a premium experience even as it aestheticized risk. In its fully commodified form, freebirth was pitched as the origin story for the ultimate self-made woman, the one who could deliver her own baby and start a business, too, staked on the imagery of her own bonkers birth. In 2022, a German woman went viral after she birthed her fourth baby into the sea like some kind of divine offspring. She posted the video evidence to Instagram, where she documented her Nicaraguan #vanlife under the handle @raggapunzel, earning tabloid recognition and an episode of "The Free Birth Society Podcast." Soon she was offering one-on-one coaching sessions and access to a guided ayahuasca retreat.

One day, I bought the Complete Guide to Freebirth and waded in. There were one hundred lessons. Each featured a video of either Saldaya or her collaborator, fellow birth thought leader Yolande Norris-Clark. They took turns delivering extended scripted monologues on subjects like “industrial obstetrics” and the “scam” of the prenatal ultrasound. My hand drifted to the seventh lesson—“Birth and Death”—and pressed play.

Saldaya appeared in the corner of a blank room, wearing a loose-knit cardigan over a snug tank top that said “FREEBIRTH” in a faux-typewriter script. Her lecture corner seemed hastily appointed with elements of nature: a spiny potted plant was plunked behind her head, and a sheepskin rug lay over the curved lip of a leather couch. “Birth is always a life-or-death situation,” she began. “Life is a life-or-death situation.” Choosing to birth at home without assistance, she said, required her to embrace her own mortality, and that of her baby, too. “Sometimes birth is a meeting with death. This happens during home birth, and it happens in the hospital,” she said. “I came to the conclusion that I would actively choose to be in my own intimate space even if the outcome was death,” she continued. “It is more important to me to receive my baby into my own hands, unmediated by machines and strangers and bright lights.”

Sometimes babies die at home: the ultimate unmediated experience.

When I was 33 weeks pregnant, my obstetrician called with a diagnosis. The fetal cells extracted from my amniotic fluid had tested positive for a rare condition called Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome. I learned that BWS is an overgrowth syndrome that affects one in 10,000 births. Its symptoms can include macrosomia, or excessive growth; omphalocele, an abdominal wall defect where organs develop partly outside the body; and macroglossia, or the enlargement of the tongue. It also increases a child’s risk of certain pediatric cancers, requiring blood and ultrasound screenings from birth.

I was surprised by my relief at the diagnosis. Finally I felt that I could seize authority over my own pregnancy, stop my spiraling brain and prepare for my baby’s arrival. I learned that doctors had developed a specific protocol for treating babies with BWS in the NICU, ensuring their care and safety in the first hours and days of their lives. As I prepared to parent a child with complex medical needs, I realized that the content produced by The Freebirth Society no longer represented an escape from my situation. Now it felt like a warning. Soon the MAHA movement would come to dominate American politics—a movement that champions the “medical freedom” of the individual even as it slashes scientific research, stigmatizes disability, and effectively punishes children with any sign of difference. As I reached the end of the Freebirth Society course, I watched for clues to how this movement would come to view my child.

The 85th chapter of the Complete Guide to Freebirth was dedicated to “developmental differences.” In its instructional video, Yolande Norris-Clark sat in front of a shelf of glazed ceramic vessels and spoke about these differences for seventeen minutes. Having no personal experience with the topic, she told a story about a baby born with gastroschisis, a condition where the baby’s intestines form outside of the body. I had heard about gastroschisis because it was a sister condition to omphalocele; both were abdominal wall defects that required emergency surgery, though babies with omphalocele tended to have more complications and a higher mortality rate.

In her videos, Norris-Clark spoke with breathy assurance, like she was performing a kind of prenatal ASMR. Her voice made extreme choices feel slick and easy. But here she stumbled. “Gastro—gastro-isk-us I think is the right pronunciation,” she said. She plowed into a speech about how babies with gastroschisis die in the hospital too, but she could barely get through the prepared text. “I know of one family whose baby was born at home with . . . gastro . . . skis-skis”—Norris-Clark winced, sucked air between her teeth, and grinned—“and whose birth attendant wrapped their baby’s organs and body in Saran Wrap, and immediately transferred to the hospital, and the baby was saved and survived. Umm, so, we just don’t know!”

I knew. Freebirth was a storytelling project, and pregnancies like mine did not fit into the narrative. How was I supposed to intuit that my baby had a rare genetic condition that required intervention from birth? Was I supposed to diagnose him psychically? Or else embrace his death, comforted that I had selected the lighting scheme for the experience? The lighting in the freebirth course was unflattering, I realized. The plant behind Saldaya’s head was ugly and frail. In her lesson, Norris-Clark said that she wanted to give newborn babies “the most intimate and authentic experience of life,” from the very beginning. But all she had to offer my baby was a laugh and a sheet of plastic. That was the image she thought he deserved: his little body wrapped up like a day-old deli sandwich.

Princess Beatrice and husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi welcomed their second daughter, Athena, on Jan. 22. In a new essay for Vogue U.K., Beatrice has opened up about the fear and worry she experienced after learning her baby would be born preterm.

"Nothing quite prepares you for the moment when you realize your baby is going to arrive early," the princess explained in her essay. "There's so little control." Princess Beatrice detailed the "uncertainty" she felt while waiting for her daughter to be born, despite knowing the medical staff would be "doing everything they can to ensure she makes it through those challenging first few days." She continued, "The uncertainty leaves you with an overwhelming fear of the unknown."

As a member of the Royal Family, Princess Beatrice has access to incredible resources, but her second pregnancy made her realize how much expectant mothers are forced to deal with. "It doesn't matter who you are or where you've come from, so many elements of pregnancy are universal," she wrote. "I've had a life that is out of the ordinary, but my joys and fears in pregnancy and motherhood are the same as those experienced by millions of other women around the world." Beatrice continued, "Like countless other expectant moms, I lay awake in the weeks leading up to birth, trying to monitor each movement of the baby in my tummy and asking myself a thousand times: 'What if this happens, or what if that happens?'"

Reflecting on her daughter's birth, Beatrice wrote, "Athena arrived healthy, a few weeks before her due date. She was so tiny it took more than a few weeks for the tears of relief to dry and for life with our healthy baby to feel real."

As a result of what she went through, Princess Beatrice hopes to help other people experiencing challenges during their pregnancies. "Looking back over those months of sheer worry, I am filled with a sense of determination that more can be done to help others find answers to those questions around the complications that can lead to preterm birth—questions that defined my days (and nights) during pregnancy," she explained.

Beatrice shares two daughters—Sienna and Athena—with husband Mapelli Mozzi, whom has one son, Wolfie, from a previous relationship.

Princess Beatrice is expecting her second child with husband Edoardo "Edo" Mapelli Mozzi this spring—and while we don't know her exact due date or if the baby will be a boy or girl, there's a York family naming tradition that she might decide to follow this time.

When Sarah Ferguson gave birth to Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, her two daughters with Prince Andrew, she chose to honor one of her favorite royal historical figures with their names. The Duchess of York—who has long been interested in Queen Victoria and her reign—used the name Beatrice, the youngest daughter of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, for her first child, and Princess Eugenie was named after the Victorian Beatrice's daughter, Victoria Eugenie.

Princess Eugenie followed in her mom's footsteps when it came to her own two children with husband Jack Brooksbank, naming her first son August, which was one of Prince Albert's middle names, and her second son Ernest, which was Prince Albert's brother's name.

However, Princess Beatrice chose not to use a Victorian moniker for her first child, 3 year-old Sienna Elizabeth.

"They were looking for an Italian name which started with an S for Sarah, to honor the duchess and also reflected the golden rust color of both the duchess's hair color and Beatrice's, which the new baby shares," a source told Hello! when Sienna was born in 2021. Princess Beatrice and Edo did use a royal name for Sienna's middle name, choosing to honor Beatrice's grandmother, Queen Elizabeth.

If the tradition continues, perhaps Beatrice—who recently broke down in tears after hearing the inspirational stories of teenage cancer patients—could decide to honor her father, Prince Andrew, with an Italian "A" name. But it's possible she could look to her mother and sister for inspiration, using Victorian names like Albert or Alice.

Considering Queen Victoria had nine children, 42 grandchildren and nearly 90 great-grandchildren, Princess Beatrice certainly has a wealth of options to choose from if she goes that route.

No matter what the baby's name is, he or she will inherit a European royal title due to their dad's Italian lineage. "Edoardo is the only male descendent taking the family into the next generation," Edo's father, Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi, told the Daily Mail in 2020. "He is a count—his wife will be a countess automatically and any of their children will be counts or nobile donna."

Of course, Princess Beatrice and Mapelli Mozzi don't use these titles for their children and likely never will, but either way, they'll hold the unique distinction of having both Italian and British noble blood.

In October 2024, Buckingham Palace announced that Princess Beatrice was expecting her second child with husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. As the royal approaches her due date, she is set to travel internationally to represent the Royal Family at an important event.

According to The London Times, Princess Beatrice will speak on a panel at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, which takes place from Jan. 20 until Jan. 24. Beatrice will reportedly speak on the topic of using "private capital from family offices and sovereign wealth funds...to tackle climate change," the outlet reported. She will reportedly be joining a plethora of world leaders from G7 and G20 countries.

Beatrice's international trip may come as a surprise to many royal fans. Multiple publications, including People, recently reported that Beatrice canceled plans to travel to Italy to spend the Christmas holidays with her husband's family. At the time, it was reported that doctors had advised the princess not to travel long distances for health reasons as she approaches the end of her pregnancy.

After canceling plans to spend the festive season in Italy, Princess Beatrice joined the Royal Family at Sandringham for Christmas. She was accompanied by Mapelli Mozzi, their 3-year-old daughter, Sienna, and her husband's 8-year-old son, Wolfie. Notably, Beatrice's parents, Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew, withdrew from spending Christmas at Sandringham following a number of public scandals. Meanwhile, Beatrice's sister, Princess Eugenie, reportedly spent Christmas with her in-laws.

While Princess Beatrice isn't a "working royal" like Prince William or Kate Middleton, she regularly steps up to support the Royal Family. Discussing Beatrice's informal role as a representative for the royals, a source previously told Hello!, "She might help out at things occasionally, such as the Prince of Wales's garden party earlier this year...it's not a phased introduction into royal duties—it's just her supporting the family." Presumably, Beatrice's Switzerland trip is yet another example of her publicly supporting the Royal Family.

Mandy Moore is currently pregnant with her third child, and she's understandably unhappy about being followed by strangers.

In an Instagram Story posted to her account, Moore explained (via JustJared), "I'm literally about to give birth, like, any second, any day, and for the last few days, there has been someone who has followed me, or us, in their car, everywhere."

Explaining why the presence of paparazzi was slightly strange, Moore continued, "We live very much off the beaten path. We live a quiet life. I’m 40 years old. I’m not anybody. I’m not someone who's trying to have my picture taken."

As for the role of paparazzi photographers in the entertainment industry, Moore explained, "I'm annoyed that that job still exists—like, 'Hello! We have social media.' We’re all disseminating our own information and pictures and sharing what we want, so why do you exist? Who cares about people taking other people's pictures anymore?"

But most of all, Moore dislikes that some photographers seemingly think they're acting incognito, when they're very much not. "What I get annoyed by is that they think I don’t see them!" she said.

The This Is Us star also alleged that one of the people who had followed her had been driving dangerously. "I noticed this guy flip around and follow me, run red lights, run stop signs and do all that stuff," she noted. "And I’m just like, 'You’re doing way too much. I notice you.'"

In addition to the Princess of Wales’ unexpected photo release (and unexpected photo controversy), we learned that Lady Kitty Spencer—the eldest daughter of Charles Spencer, brother of Princess Diana, who, upon getting married in 2021, casually wore five Dolce & Gabbana wedding dresses—was not only pregnant, but gave birth to her first child with husband Michael Lewis.

“It’s the joy of my life to be your mummy, little one,” Kitty wrote on Instagram. “I love you unconditionally. Happy Mother’s Day to those who celebrate today.”

The surprise announcement featured a video compilation of photos, “beginning with two pictures of Kitty holding her baby on the beach while wearing a white swimsuit and a white shirt draped off her shoulders,” People reports. “Meanwhile, another sweet snap showed Kitty holding her little one’s hand in the palm of her own.”

Kitty’s younger sister Lady Amelia Spencer commented “The most perfect angel in the world,” while Amelia’s twin sister Lady Eliza Spencer added—confirming the baby’s gender in the process—“My perfect little Niece.”

Kitty married Lewis on July 24, 2021, in Italy; she never publicly announced that she was expecting, nor did she reveal the baby’s name or birthdate.

Tatler writes that “The low-key approach to publicity is a far cry from the seemingly endless articles and social media posts that were shared over summer three years ago, when Lady Kitty Spencer married South African businessman Michael Lewis in an extravagant wedding in Rome.” Kitty, who today is 33, and Lewis, 65, went public with their relationship in 2019, and Lewis proposed that Christmas. Their wedding was initially delayed because of the pandemic and, in addition to her array of Dolce & Gabbana looks, Kitty “decided not to wear the family heirloom, the Spencer Tiara, for her wedding day,” Tatler reports. “Her sensational haute couture wardrobe was eye-catching enough in its own right.”

After the wedding, the newlyweds also honeymooned in Italy, a country that holds a special place in Kitty’s heart, she told The London Evening Standard in 2021. She studied in Florence for three years and said of the country that “the love and passion I feel for life is ignited in Italy. I hope to have a proper base there someday and it is certainly where I would like to retire.”

Vanessa Hudgens has some sharp words for people who asked her if she was pregnant in her Instagram comment section.

This all happened in October, when Hudgens posted a sweet video of her bachelorette trip to Aspen, Colorado, with her girlfriends—and tons of commenters felt it was acceptable to speculate about whether she was expecting.

In his latest song, "don't let me go," MGK raps about his and partner Megan Fox's miscarriage and his resounding guilt for not being there when it happened, “How can I live with the fact / That my hand wasn't on her stomach when we lost the baby?”

While still too rare, it's more common for women to speak out about pregnancy loss than their partners, making MGK's raw and vulnerable admission all the more vital.

In comments on social media, fans describe these lyrics as "heartbreaking" and applaud him for being "transparent."

This isn't the first time MGK has used his music as an outlet for this loss. In "twin flame," he sings, “Go to sleep / I’ll see you in my dreams / This changes everything / Now I have to set you free.” The track further appears to feature the sound of a heartbeat throughout, confirming that it may be related to the couple's pregnancy loss.

When performing at the Billboard Music Awards, MGK confirmed that this song was written for his "wife" and their "unborn child." Fox praised his performance and wrote on Instagram, “Baby - so proud of you for giving such a vulnerable and emotional performance. You are magic.”

Additionally, in his song, "last november," MGK sings, “One day and another ten weeks / I never even got to hear your heart beat.”

Fox also wrote about the miscarriage in her poetry book Pretty Boys Are Poisonous.

The singer spoke to People at the premiere of the Netflix documentary about "We Are the World" and said, “You know what? I am pumped up. I am now going to spoil yet another child in the world…And I am not quite sure what the child will do to me, but I'm hoping that the child gives the parents a bit of a run, because every parent wants to get even as to what you did to me."

As for whether Sofia is prepared for this, Lionel said, “She’s going to be fantastic. These are two loving parents, and I don't think they really know what's coming because every kid is different. So no matter what advice I give them, there's no manual for this. They'll figure it out.”

Lionel's eldest daughter, Nicole Richie, is already a mother of two, so he has some experience with being a grandparent. But that doesn't mean he's ready to be called "Grandpa" just yet.

"I'm Pop-Pop," Lionel explained to Entertainment Tonight. "We don't get the 'grandpa,' yeah, that's a little deep. Pop-Pop is where we're going."

Pop-Pop has some opinions about how Sofia's social media presence is already playing out as an expectant mother. He hadn't yet heard that the pair had shared a video of their gender reveal—it's a girl, by the way!

She then counted down from three, and when the popper released, pink smoke and confetti filled the screen. Her reaction? Screaming at the top of her lungs and running around her yard excitedly, which frightened her sweet Golden Retriever, who moved closer to Mom and Dad to make sure they were okay.

“Sorry to all my neighbors for the horrifying scream,” she joked in the video’s caption.

Grainge’s reaction to learning he was a girl dad was a bit more subdued; he stood still, seemingly shocked, with his hand over his mouth. “I’m so excited!” Richie Grainge said, giving Grainge a big hug.

The gender reveal video comes just three days after Richie Grainge revealed her pregnancy in a Vogue interview published Thursday. In that interview, she reflected on the moment we got to see play out on TikTok: “I love the YouTubes and the TikToks—even before I was talking about getting pregnant—of gender reveals, so we had our OB text my assistant Becca [our baby’s gender], and we bought two party poppers: one blue, one pink,” she said. “She left out the one with the correct color inside, and Elliot and I popped it together. We both really thought it was a boy, so it was a true shock. My dream in life is to have a daughter [though], and Elliot is really excited for a girl, too.” 

Richie Grainge—who is the youngest daughter of Lionel Richie—married Grainge in April 2023. She said her husband is just as excited as she is to have a daughter: “I think it’s so typical for boys to want boys, but he has a lot of sisters,” she said.

In the same Vogue interview, Richie Grainge talked fashion, telling the outlet that now that the news is out, she has so many ideas for her maternity style. “I’m not really tapping into maternity wear at all,” she said. “If anything, I’m just sizing up. I’m also not buying an entirely new wardrobe for this pregnancy. I’ve bought a few pairs of pants in bigger sizes, but I’m wearing my same jackets, and sweaters, and trenches—I’m about to have some fun with it now that I can spread my wings and fly.”

Lionel Richie is already a doting grandpa, and he could not be more excited for his daughter Sofia Richie Grainge to be a mom.

If you were surprised when Rihanna announced her pregnancy with her second child during the Super Bowl halftime show last year, you’re not alone—Rihanna herself wasn’t planning on announcing it, but she ran into a bit of a problem that forced the issue: “My jumper couldn’t zip up,” she laughed as she told Access Hollywood, adding “I did what I had to do.”

During the first few minutes of the performance—while being lifted into the air on a platform at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, where the Kansas City Chiefs squared off against the Philadelphia Eagles—Rihanna rubbed her stomach and set the internet ablaze.

“No one knew I was pregnant,” she said. “I just told my stylist, ‘Make sure it’s stretchy.’ So the undergarment was stretchy and this [jacket] was baggy, but you know, the zip. It just stopped right there! So it had to be what it had to be.”

Marie Claire was happy to report earlier this month that actor Robert Pattinson and actress, singer-songwriter, and model Suki Waterhouse are set to become first-time parents, confirmed after Waterhouse announced the news onstage in Mexico City.

Wearing an eye-catching dress, Waterhouse said “I decided to wear something particularly sparkly today because I thought it might distract you from something else that’s going on.” Then, gesturing to her baby bump, she joked, “I’m not sure if it’s working.”

The couple have been dating for five years and are “thrilled beyond words” to be expecting, People reports. Of Pattinson, a source speaking to the outlet said he is “smart and keeps his life low-key and out of the spotlight as much as possible. He and Suki are very serious and have been. A baby coming is an absolute joy for them.”

A second source added “They are ready for a child and looking forward to becoming parents. Even though they are both professionals who work a great deal, this is something they want. They know their lives will change, and they are excited.”

Earlier this year, in a sit-down with The Sunday Times, Waterhouse opened up about her long-term relationship with Pattinson: “I’m shocked that I’m so happy with someone for nearly five years,” she said, adding that they never go more than two months without seeing each other, despite careers that take both all over the globe. “I had two days off the other day, and it was like, no question, I’m going back to see him.” 

Hailey Bieber opened up to GQ in a wide-ranging interview about the rampant pregnancy rumors that follow her—and when she’ll let the world know if she’s pregnant. “Recently, everybody was like, 'Oh my God, she’s pregnant,’ and that’s happened to be multiple times before,” she said. “There is something disheartening about damn, I can’t be bloated one time and not be pregnant? It would be a lie if I was like, ‘Oh yeah, I don’t give a shit.’”

Before she married Justin Bieber in 2018, she said that she wanted to raise her future family out of the spotlight. (Lest we forget, before she was a Bieber, she was a Baldwin—one of the most famous families in Hollywood.) Now, she admits, it’s “probably totally unavoidable” to raise her children out of the limelight, she said. “That was before I was married. Didn’t know who I was going to be married to at the time, I’m sure. Maybe I liked the idea at 18 of not raising kids around certain things, but my life is so different now than it was when I was 18. It’s so hard to say what I’m going to do or not do when there isn’t even a child here yet. I don’t even know what it feels like to be a parent, other than a dog parent, yet. In the interview, Bieber also opened up about being a young adult, telling the outlet “Sometimes I miss the crazy spontaneity of being 18 and running around New York City,” she said. “It’s like, that’s never going to be my life again. Anyone who has ever watched Keeping Up with the Kardashians of yesteryear knows that Kourtney Kardashian Barker loves being pregnant. (Her sister Kim? Not so much—although, of course, in the end found it all worth it.) Kardashian Barker is currently nearing the end of her pregnancy with her fourth child, a baby boy, and her first with husband Travis Barker. (She shares Mason, Penelope, and Reign with ex Scott Disick.)

Kardashian Barker opened up to Vogue about this pregnancy which, because she is 44, is considered a geriatric pregnancy: “That word is just so wild,” she said. “But my doctors are so cautious, and I’ve had so many more restrictions than my other pregnancies. The first trimester was no working out, no flying on airplanes, no sex. Then the second trimester, I could do anything. Now, I am back to all the restrictions.”

In September, Kardashian Barker sparked concern when she and her baby boy underwent emergency surgery to save the baby’s life. “That experience opened my eyes to a whole new world of pregnancy that I didn’t know about in the past,” she said. “It was terrifying. After, I learned that insurance typically only covers two ultrasounds when you’re pregnant. I had no idea. I’ve always been lucky enough to do more than what insurance covers, and it’s one of those ultrasounds that saved my baby’s life.”

Prior to becoming pregnant, Kardashian Barker underwent in vitro fertilization, which she said she “felt really pressured and pushed into doing”: “It went against my intuition, and I didn’t feel fully prepared for the mental or physical toll it takes,” she said. After she took a break from IVF, “We just got pregnant naturally,” she said. “It was an indescribable feeling. Shock, then super-happy, fear sets in, worry. But I remembered then to have gratitude.”

After the baby is born, Kardashian Barker plans to return to attachment parenting style, which she did with Penelope and Reign, she said. “We didn’t leave the house for the first 40 days,” Kardashian Barker said. “After, you’re super-connected, and I love that.”

But, surprisingly, as many plans are in place for her new baby boy, she has no birth plan, and never has with any of her three previous pregnancies. “I was so chill when my water broke with Mason,” she said. “I shaved my legs and put on makeup. This time, I still don’t have a birth plan, except for talking to the baby all the time and telling him, ‘Everything is going to be amazing.’”

As the baby’s due date draws closer, Kardashian Barker is focused on staying calm. “I’ve finally been able to let go of the fear and worry that everybody else put in us because of this pregnancy,” she said. “I’m ready to go in, have the baby, and have the experience we’re meant to have.”

ICYMI, Kardashian announced her pregnancy to the world by referencing Blink-182's music video for "All the Small Things" (Blink-182 is Barker's band, FYI): She attended their concert while holding up the previously referenced sign saying "TRAVIS I'M PREGNANT"

After spotting the sign, Barker looked stunned and went to embrace his wife. Of course, it's unlikely that Barker didn't know about the pregnancy itself; it's more likely that he didn't know that his wife was going to pull this fun stunt.

The drummer shares daughter Alabama and son Landon with ex Shanna Moakler, and also has a close relationship with Moakler's daughter (i.e. his stepdaughter) Atiana. Lindsay Lohan is expecting her first child with husband Bader Shammas, and their baby already has a doting grandma.

Lindsay's mom Dina is so excited to welcome her second grandchild (Lindsay's brother Michael has a daughter).

"I'm literally over the moon. I'm so happy, I can't stop smiling," Dina told People. "It's incredible. We're just so excited. It's just such a beautiful thing for my child! And I love babies. Who doesn't?"

I don’t care if you’re watching the Oscars or not, Rihanna deserves your undivided attention at this very moment. The star, who is nominated for Best Original Song for “Lift Me Up” in Black Panther: Wakana Forever, just shut down the red carpet in a black Alaia dress complete with a leather bustier, cut-out detailing, and a sheer panel that highlighted her second pregnancy. She accessorized her look with custom Giuseppe Zanotti Intriigo Lace Up Sandals in Black Satin and Brown Nappa Leather sandals. 

The singer, who announced her second pregnancy during her Super Bowl halftime performance last month, is set to perform at the 95th Academy Awards later this evening. While we’re confident an outfit change is impending, we’re going to take a moment to relish in RiRi’s first look. The leather detailing? Stunning. The mesh panel? Iconic. While this look is bound to go down as one of the “Pon de Replay” singer’s best looks, it is perfectly in line with her groundbreaking pregnancy style. Last year, when the star was pregnant with her first child, she made a conscious decision to redefine the maternity category. “It’s been me personally saying, I’m not going to buy maternity clothes—I’m not gonna buy maternity pants, jeans, dresses, or [do] whatever society told me to do before,” she told Bustle in March 2022. “When I saw women dress during their pregnancy [in the past], I’d think that that was the only way. So I challenged myself to push it further and really just have fun with [maternity style].” 

It’s safe to say that her mission was accomplished. 

Not to be dramatic, but it's hard to deny that Rihanna redefined the limits of maternity style while she was pregnant with her baby son between 2021 and 2022.

Her pregnancy announcement consisted of her literally just stepping out in a sumptuous outfit that bared her baby bump, the epicness of which is only topped by her second pregnancy announcement, which she calmly pulled off as part of the Super Bowl Halftime Show.

But while she had the most fun with maternity dressing, Rihanna found postpartum dressing pretty difficult when her baby was born, she told British Vogue in a new cover interview.

"Dressing for pregnancy was such a piece of cake," she said.

"But dressing in postpartum, what the f*** do you do? The week that I came home from the hospital—that was nothing but sweats and hoodies. But the weeks after that, you don’t know what to put on. Everything is too small or too big.

She added, "You kind of just gotta wait it out otherwise you end up buying so many clothes you’re not going to use. Well, unless you get pregnant again." Here, the interviewer wrote in a tongue-in-cheek "indeed," which discreetly pointed out that she had in fact gotten pregnant again.

As well as being great news for her family-wise, this pregnancy is probably also great news for her fashion-wise, since she gets to explore more of her headline-making maternity outfits.

"When I found out I was pregnant, I thought to myself, There’s no way I’m going to go shopping in no maternity aisle," she told Vogue during her first pregnancy. "I’m sorry—it’s too much fun to get dressed up. I’m not going to let that part disappear because my body is changing."

She continued, "I’m hoping that we were able to redefine what’s considered 'decent' for pregnant women. My body is doing incredible things right now, and I’m not going to be ashamed of that. This time should feel celebratory. Because why should you be hiding your pregnancy?" This is the correct take.

Ashley Graham has been keeping it real ever since she first stepped into the public eye, and people everywhere are so grateful for it.

The supermodel often shares unedited photos of her body in its different iterations, for example during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, which has the very real effect of normalizing what bodies can look like before, during and after childbirth.

Most recently, Graham shared a photo of her nude torso while clutching her stomach with both hands, showing off what her body looks like a year after welcoming her twin sons Roman and Malachi, who were born in January 2021.

The model didn't caption the photo, letting it speak for itself, and her followers loved her for it.

"Yesss," wrote body-positive influencer Sarah Nicole Landry.

"Beautiful!!!!" wrote author Jenna Kutcher.

"The realest one we know," commented makeup artist Katie Jane Hughes.

While Graham has previously said that she hates having to discuss her body all the time, she is still very open about what life is like in her own skin.

For example, in an interview with Marie Claire back in May 2022, when she released a lingerie collection with Knix, she gave us her definition of sexy.

"I mean, first of all, the question is when do you feel sexy! After the pandemic and having three babies in two years, it's a different kind of sexy now. Before, I only did sexy [when I was] fully glammed up and a dress on a red carpet. Now my sexy is just a little bit different."

Graham shares her twins and 3-year-old Isaac with husband Justin Ervin.

In the hours before her performance at the Super Bowl LVII in Glendale, Arizona, Rihanna hinted to CBS anchor Nate Burleson that she would have a "surprise guest" joining her. That surprise guest turned out to be her second child (!!!), with Rihanna taking to the stage visibly pregnant in a fire-engine red outfit, including a red bandeau top and a red boiler suit over a long-sleeved red vest. People confirmed the news with Rihanna's team just minutes after Rihanna's performance ended, with People noting that she was the first pregnant woman to ever perform at the iconic halftime show.

Being pregnant didn't deter Rihanna from giving the performance of a lifetime: The singer performed hits including "Umbrella," "Diamonds," "Run This Town," and "Bitch Better Have My Money" alongside dozens of backing dancers dressed in puffy white sweatsuits. 

Rihanna became a mom for the first time in May, welcoming her son with boyfriend A$AP Rocky. 

Speaking to Apple News prior to the Super Bowl, she said, "When you become a mom, there's something that just happens where you feel like you can take on the world. You can do anything, and the Super Bowl is one of the biggest stages in the world. So, as scary as that was... there's something exhilarating about the challenge of it all, and it's important for me to do this this year." (Was that a hint??)

Keke Palmer found out she was pregnant in a very unconventional way: through someone else (not like a rando, it was her partner Darius Jackson, but still).

The Nope actress revealed how it all went down on her podcast Baby, This is Keke Palmer recently, and it's such a good story, TBH.

"It's so funny because how I found out was actually Darius," she said (via People).

"Randomly I was just feeling to myself, maybe I could be pregnant. Like the period thing didn't even happen yet. Maybe this is the time."

She continued, "So I took the test and it came back negative ... I didn't have the lines on there, so I just threw it in the trash."

Palmer then left the house, but later received a text from her boyfriend, which included a pic of the test—which was now positive.

"I didn't wait long enough!" she explained. "And I'm like, 'I took that earlier today, like literally just some hours before I left out.' And he said, 'Well, you better get to be drinking water in your sight. Cause I'm buying 10 of these things right now. You take them all when you get home.'"

Now, in case you have some questions about how Jackson came to find a discarded pregnancy test, don't worry: He explained everything.

"I was not digging in the trash can... the cleaning lady, she just emptied out the trash," he said. "So, when I went to the bathroom, I only just see one item inside the trash and it was the pregnancy test. Then I just see the line and it was not even faint. It was actually a very thin line, solid straight."

Jackson then lived his best "rom-com movie" life by buying all the pregnancy tests he could find in a local branch of Target.

He further explained, "We had them lined up. I had like, two, three bottles of water ready for Keke when she came back, drinking a bunch of water. And then during the next two hours, [the tests] just kept [being] positive, positive, positive, positive."

The legend that is Keke Palmer announced her pregnancy while hosting Saturday Night Live back in December, by opening her coat during her monologue to reveal her baby bump, per NBC.

Palmer and Jackson have been together since 2021, according to People.

One of the happiest pieces of news out of the royal family as of late? Princess Eugenie is pregnant with her second child, an uplift after a tumultuous season for the family. According to The Mirror, even as relations are still very strained between Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and the rest of the family, ties remain strong between the couple and Eugenie, Harry’s cousin—and, according to royal expert Ingrid Seward speaking to the outlet, the Sussexes would have been the first to hear of the good news.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex would have been amongst the first to hear the news of Eugenie’s pregnancy,” says Seward, who is the editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine. “Meghan and Harry are close with Eugenie—and not only has she stayed with them in California, but they have been on holidays together before Harry’s marriage. If the Sussexes come to the Coronation in May, there will be an added incentive to see Eugenie as, by then, it is doubtful if she will want to travel herself.”

When Eugenie was pregnant for the first time—with son August, born in February 2021—Meghan was also pregnant with Lilibet, born in June of that same year, and the two bonded over the shared experience.

Seward tells The Mirror that Eugenie’s “cheerful” announcement will be a welcome distraction for the royal family amidst the continual fallout from Spare, Harry’s memoir released earlier this month.

“Royal babies have always provided positive news, especially when everything around us is so troubled,” she says.

For its part, Buckingham Palace said the royal family is “delighted” and that big brother August is “very much” looking forward to becoming an older brother. (Eugenie shares both children with husband Jack Brooksbank.) August “is almost two years old and mature enough to understand and be excited about what is going on,” Seward says. “He is probably a delightful handful like little boys of that age, and will be gaining daily independence from his mother and father. So the idea of having a new playmate will be something to look forward to.”

The new baby will be born thirteenth in the line of succession to the throne, and the first of Her late Majesty’s great-grandchildren to be born after her death.

Harry has long been extremely close to Eugenie, and, to our knowledge, she is the only member of the royal family to have visited him and Meghan in California since their departure as working members of the royal family three years ago. She is also the only member of the royal family to make a cameo appearance in Harry & Meghan, the couple’s docuseries on Netflix which debuted last month. 

Kaley Cuoco showed up to the Critics' Choice Awards this weekend in a stunning black gown which she credits with making "this preggo feel perfect."

Cuoco announced in October that she is expecting a child with her partner Tom Pelphrey, and the lovebirds made their first appearance at the Golden Globes together last week, before making another date night out of the Critics' Choice.

At the ceremony on Sunday, Cuoco wore a black Dior couture full-length velvet gown with three-quarter-length sleeves, almost like a high-fashion cloak. The dress featured a cutout panel around the neckline.

The Big Bang Theory alum went with a late '60s/early '70s beauty look, rocking sparse bangs, a smoky cat eye and lots of blush.

Posting photos from the night on Instagram, she wrote, "@dior couture .. thank you for this super chic , delicious look! Thank you team for making this preggo feel perfect," before tagging her glam team and adding, "perfect other half @tommypelphrey also wearing @dior"

Stylist Brad Goreski—who was responsible for the look—commented, "Are you kidding me? Wow!"

Sharon Stone said, "Oh girrrrrl u r deep in them pregnancy hormones," presumably referencing Cuoco's sweet but, yes, rather sappy caption.

Olivia Munn wrote, "Beauty!!" and Josh Brolin commented three fire emojis.

Cuoco and Pelphrey have shared a whirlwind romance, to say the least. The two first met in April 2022, and as reported by People, the actress said it was "love at first sight." By May, they were Instagram-official, and the rest is history.

This comes after Cuoco divorced from ex Karl Cook in October 2021. They were married for three years, and sources close to the couple described their separation as "very sudden."

Naomi Osaka has announced her pregnancy to her fans.

The tennis player took to Twitter to share a sonogram, captioned, "Can’t wait to get back on the court but here’s a little life update for 2023."

Osaka also included a screenshot of her Notes app with the words:

"The past few years have been interesting to say the least, but I find that its the most challenging times in life that may be the most fun.

"These few months away from the sport has really given me a new love and appreciation for the game I've dedicated my life to. I realize that life is so short and I don't take any moments for granted, everyday is a new blessing and adventure.

"I know that I have so much to look forward to in the future, one thing I'm looking forward to is for my kid to watch one of my matches and tell someone, 'that's my mom', haha.

"2023 will be a year that'll be full of lessons for me and I hope I'll see you guys in the start of the next one cause I'll be at Aus 2024. Love you all infinitely."

She concluded, "Sidenote : I don't think there's a perfectly correct path to take in life but I always felt that if you move forward with good intentions you'll find your way eventually."

Though she didn't mention him in her announcement, Osaka has been dating rapper Cordae since 2019, according to People.

Osaka made headlines in 2021 when she withdrew from the French Open to protect her mental health.

Purvi Patel was hemorrhaging when she sought medical treatment at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, Indiana in July 2013. She underwent emergency surgery to remove her placenta. While she initially denied having been pregnant, Patel eventually told medical staff that she’d suffered a pregnancy loss and had placed the stillborn fetus in a dumpster. Doctors called the police, who interrogated Patel while she was recovering in her hospital bed. When they searched her text messages, they saw a message Patel had sent a friend, saying she’d ordered medication abortion pills from an online pharmacy.

Patel was later arrested and convicted of feticide and child neglect, and sentenced to 20 years in prison. In 2016, the Indiana court of appeals overturned her feticide conviction and she was released. 

“Being accused of having a living child and abandoning it, while at the same time, being accused of killing a fetus—those are two contradictory charges,” says Sara Ainsworth, an attorney who wrote a friend-of-the-court brief for Patel’s appeal. “But juries often convict because of abortion stigma.”

Reproductive justice attorneys like Ainsworth are worried that the U.S. is about to see an increase in pregnancy criminalization cases like Patel’s following the June 24 Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade. That’s not to say it hasn’t been happening already. Since Roe was decided in 1973, the National Advocates for Pregnant Women (NAPW) documented more than 1,700 instances across the U.S. in which people were criminalized for their pregnancy status or outcomes. Thirteen-hundred of these cases occurred between 2006 and 2020. The people subject to these prosecutions are disproportionately people of color and the majority of them are low-income.

Discussing Patel’s win on appeal, Ainsworth says: “The court held that that law was never intended to be used against somebody who ended their own pregnancy or anyone at all in relation to their own pregnancy.” The 2009 Indiana law was actually passed in response to a pregnant woman who was shot and subsequently lost her twins. “I fear that we will continue to see laws misused in that way,” she adds.

Ainsworth asserts that Patel’s case is a typical scenario in which a patient sought medical care and then hospital providers violated her medical privacy rights under HIPAA by contacting law enforcement. “It’s not uncommon to see bedside interrogations happening,” says Ainsworth.

Farah Diaz-Tello, who also helped work on Patel’s defense, says that one of the primary pathways to criminalization is when a pregnant person accesses healthcare services. She says “providers may wrongly believe” they need to report a suspected abortion, or they may have political motivations. “The OB-GYN who treated [Patel] was a very vocal anti-abortion advocate,” she says. Diaz-Tello thinks about people’s experiences of loss and how that is marred. “It becomes a trauma when law enforcement is involved,” she says. “Having an obstetrical emergency is hard enough as it is.”

The attorney recalls a client she worked with who miscarried a wanted pregnancy at home. Afterward, she spoke with her doctor’s office about what to do with the fetal remains. Ultimately, she decided to save them so she could cremate them. But when her husband called the coroner, he was asked for a death certificate. He said he didn’t have one, and was told to call the police, who then rushed to their house to investigate. The incident was eventually resolved, but only after inflicting compounded trauma on the grieving couple.

“If pregnancy criminalization is allowed to proliferate, the criminal legal system will sweep up into its net not only those actively intending to end a pregnancy, but those suffering pregnancy loss,” says Jill Adams, executive director of If/When/How, a national legal organization that serves the reproductive justice community. In addition to training attorneys in pregnancy criminalization defense, If/When/How offers patient-facing services including a free, confidential Repro Legal Helpline providing legal advice and support and a Repro Legal Defense Fund to help with bail and legal fees.

Adams calls the difference between a self-managed abortion and a miscarriage a “thin, porous line” since, medically, the two present the same and, thus, have the same standard of care. Medication abortion pills don’t show up in a toxicology screen. Adams stresses that although sometimes people conflate the two, and often the same pills are used, a medication abortion is different from a self-managed abortion because in the former, a licensed medical professional is involved. When someone is self-sourcing or community-sourcing, they may encounter legal risk. 

“Overzealous prosecutors hell-bent on punishing someone they suspect has ended a pregnancy will use whatever part of the criminal code they can make stick,” declares Adams. “There are a wide range of laws misapplied, from homicide, feticide, to drug possesion to child abuse to abuse of a corpse.”

Adams explains that on appeal, judges usually look at the law’s intent and overturn the convictions. But that doesn’t mean damage hasn’t already occurred. Beyond abortion, criminalization carries its own stigma in our society.  “They may have lost their jobs, they may have lost their liberty, lost their parenting rights,” says Adams.

Ainsworth similarly recounts seeing people experience “severe harm” from these prosecutions, even when they are appealed. “Your life has been completely upended, your mugshot’s in the paper and all over the Internet.”

“It’s a horrific experience and it’s a horrific misuse of a criminal legal system to prosecute somebody for their pregnancy outcomes and that’s true whether or not the person decided to end their own pregnancy or whether they suffered a miscarriage or a stillbirth,” says Ainsworth. The stigma itself creates a rise in prosecutions, she adds, because everyone involved—police, prosecutors, child welfare systems—bring their own personal biases.

“Essentially what [stigma] does is put heightened suspicions on anybody whose pregnancy outcome is not a healthy baby. People who are experiencing intended, wanted pregnancies and lose them have been—and may be more often—accused of doing something to end them and charged with crimes. And the people targeted are disproportionately people of color and disproportionately immigrants.” 

Brittney Poolaw, a member of the Wichita nation, was 19 when she suffered a miscarriage at 17 weeks pregnant. She sought treatment at an Oklahoma hospital where, according to a police affidavit, she admitted to medical staff that she’d used both methamphetamine and marijuana. The medical examiner noted several contributing factors to the cause of death, including congenital abnormality, placental abruption, and maternal methamphetamine use. Poolaw was arrested for manslaughter, found guilty by a jury, and sentenced to four years in prison.

Poolaw is still currently serving her sentence. Emma Roth, a staff attorney at NAPW, says many women in similar circumstances choose to serve time rather than risk the uncertainty of an appeal, which could lead to a longer sentence. 

Latice Fisher, a Mississippi woman who faced allegations related to self-managed abortion in 2017, is one of the defendants NAPW has represented. “She similarly suffered a tragic stillbirth, yet police relied on the fact that she had conducted an internet search for abortion medication to subject her to criminal proseuction for second-degree murder,” says Roth, adding that now that Roe has been overturned, “We anticipate a very dramatic increase in the rate of criminalization of all pregnancy outcomes.”

NAPW reports that 38 states have fetal protection laws recognizing the fetus as a legal victim. Prosecutors in some of these states have used those laws to charge pregnant people who either experience loss or give birth to a baby believed to have been subjected to harm in utero. Alabama and Oklahoma are two states where pregnant people are often criminalized for substance use during pregnancy. 

One Arizona woman who had a medical marijuana license and was told by a doctor she could use marijuana while pregnant to treat her pregnancy-related nausea was charged with felony child neglect when her newborn tested positive for THC. Recently, in California, women like Adora Perez and Chelsea Becker were prosecuted and imprisoned for delivering stillborn babies; their charges were later dismissed. A 2019 study on race and child welfare found that pregnant Black women are more likely to be drug tested by medical staff and reported to child welfare authorities, even though Black and white pregnant women use drugs at approximately the same rate in the U.S.

As Dorothy Roberts writes in her book “Killing the Black Body,” as more anti-abortion advocates portray the fetus as an independent person, “the fetus acquired more and more legal rights of its own, often against the pregnant woman carrying it.” She likens this to when a pregnant enslaved woman’s body was “subject to legal fiat centuries ago because the fetus she was carrying already belonged to her master.”

It’s not just reproductive rights advocates who are worried about what this increased criminalization will mean. Doctors and medical boards are concerned that pregnant people will be hesitant to seek medical care, for fear of prosecution. The results could be fatal. 

Louisiana is just one state where arguments about pregnancy criminalization are playing out.

As an attorney, Louisiana state representative Mandie Landry has represented women seeking abortions. This past legislative session she introduced a bill intended to prevent pregnancy criminalization. “People are going to start being afraid to show up to the hospital or the ER for fear of being arrested,” Landry said when she presented the bill to the house committee in April. “We don’t want a woman to stay home and bleed out, we want her to go to the doctor, we want her to get help.”

Emergency medicine physician Nina Breakstone testified in support of the bill. “I don’t think the general public understands how many women experience complications in pregnancy,” said Breakstone. She stated that at her small community hospital outside of New Orleans she sees “two of these patients a shift.”

“I just want to emphasize how important it is that timely care happens for these people. I have seen terrible, terrible, terrible things happen to women and babies. I saw one woman die in front of me because she ruptured her uterus at home. I have seen ectopic pregnancies that resulted in hemorrhage.” Breakstone emphatically said, “I want this bill to pass because I want to protect my patients and I want them to come in as quickly as possible if they think something is wrong. This will save lives.”

The conversation quickly devolved into a debate about “fear-mongering” and abortion. Rep. Danny McCormick said he was concerned this would be “used to legitimize abortion in the future.” Landry replied to the objections by stating how important it was that this bill be passed before Roe was overturned and Louisiana’s trigger bans go into effect. Her voice filled with emotion she said, “This is probably the most important bill I’ve filed.”

The bill did not make it out of committee. McCormick, one of the members expressing his disapproval, authored his own legislation that would criminalize people seeking abortions, classifying abortion as homicide. While McCormick’s bill didn’t end up passing, new legislation enhancing criminal penalties for abortion providers and criminalizing the sale of abortion pills to Louisiana residents by mail was signed into law by Democratic Gov. John Bel Edwards in June. There are no exceptions for rape or incest.

However, Louisiana is one of the states whose trigger bans are temporarily blocked. [Editor's Note: The legality of abortion in Louisiana is rapidly changing as things play out in court. We will not be updating this piece with each ruling; please check nola.com for the most up-to-date information.] Last week, abortion providers filed a lawsuit declaring its multiple trigger bans “unconstiutionally vague.” A hearing has been set for today to discuss the lawsuit. Earlier this week, the state Supreme Court rejected the Louisiana attorney general’s request to immediately reinstate the abortion ban. On Tuesday, numerous Louisiana doctors filed sworn affidavits about the harm Louisiana’s trigger bans would cause. They talked about working under threat of prosecution and feeling like they have to choose between their patient’s health and their own liberty. New Orleans Health Director Jennifer Avegno wrote that oncologists don’t know if, under Louisiana law, they will have to “withhold potentially life-saving chemotherapy treatments when treating pregnant patients for fear they could be criminally charged.”

Ellie Schilling is one of the attorneys who filed the petition blocking the trigger bans from going into effect in Louisiana. “We have seen for years, baseless prosecutions of people for their pregnancy outcomes,” Schilling tells Marie Claire. “Unfortunately that’s only going to increase now that conservative politicians and some law enforcement officers are going to feel emboldened.”

There is a lot of fear and concern that general criminal statutes of “aiding and abetting” or conspiracy could be “weaponized against other people who are just trying to participate in this space and help their fellow neighbors,” says Schilling, co-founder of the women’s rights group Lift Louisiana. If that happens, Schilling says, there will be reproductive justice lawyers trained, mobilized and “ready to step in and defend people from baseless and harassing criminal investigations and charges.”

For now, abortion remains legal in Louisiana, but reproductive rights in that state and many others feel like they are hanging by a thread. Doctors remain confused, healthcare appointments may be canceled at a minute’s notice, pharmacies are sometimes rejecting prescriptions, and the reproductive justice community prepares for the dark times they foresee ahead.

I usually look forward to work trips with an excitement bordering on giddiness. Several nights in a hotel room without children, falling asleep alone watching a bad movie on cable is a middle-aged mother’s dream. 

And yet I’m dreading my work trip next month. Maybe dread isn’t strong enough. I’m terrified to go on this reporting road trip through South Dakota and Wisconsin at a time when I’ll be 18 weeks pregnant with my third child at the age of 41. 

It’s a high-risk surprise pregnancy, the kind doctors in our very eloquent and woman-loving country refer to as “geriatric” due to the fact that I am over the age of 35. So far everything—all of the tests and scans and voodoo that happens in early pregnancy—has been going well. I’ve been feeling good.

Until I stopped feeling good. Following Friday's Supreme Court decision striking down the constitutional right to abortion and triggering laws banning or severely restricting the procedure in at least 13 states, I began to feel whatever the opposite of good is. Nauseatingly horror-stricken and depleted of all joy, perhaps.

I am filled with fear for all women in this country right now, but also for myself, for my unborn baby, and for the two children under the age of 5 that I’m hoping to live a long time to take care of. A pregnancy at any age is anxiety-inducing enough. It’s even more anxiety-inducing at my age, when the risk of complications for both the mother and the fetus are much higher. I used to feel certain that if something went wrong during the course of this pregnancy, doctors at any hospital in the country would do whatever it takes to save my life. Now, I’m not so sure.

I’m not so sure that a doctor in South Dakota—where a trigger law made abortion a criminal act as of 9 a.m. Friday, June 24—would take every precaution to save my life in the terrible circumstances of a miscarriage if it meant losing their license or going to prison. 

The law now in effect reads: "Any person who administers to any pregnant female or who prescribes or procures for any pregnant female any medicine, drug, or substance or uses or employs any instrument or other means with intent thereby to procure an abortion, unless there is appropriate and reasonable medical judgment that performance of an abortion is necessary to preserve the life of the pregnant female, is guilty of a Class 6 felony."

The medical procedures that are often required to help a woman survive a later-term miscarriage (one in the second trimester of pregnancy, which I am squarely in) are very similar to the ones used in an abortion and are often classified the same way by billing codes. The abortion pill, Misoprostol, can be prescribed for miscarriage treatment to help a woman’s body expel remaining tissue, preventing infection. Dilation and curettage (D&C), a procedure to remove tissue from inside the uterus following an incomplete miscarriage, can also be performed to remove any remaining tissue from the uterus following an abortion. There is plenty of dangerous overlap in procedures and semantics that could force doctors to make difficult decisions or delay the onset of life-saving care as they consult lawyers.

This already happens in places where abortion is illegal or restricted. Earlier this month, an American woman on a babymoon in Malta was denied potentially life-saving treatment following an incomplete miscarriage at 16 weeks, which left her at risk for a fatal infection, because Malta—like many U.S. states now—bans abortion. She was airlifted to Mallorca, Spain, where she received treatment and was stabilized. Her husband gave a statement to the Associated Press following last week’s SCOTUS ruling:  “We were just thinking about the women who are going to suffer in states where politicians will choose to do something like Malta for a political gain,” he told the AP. “Women are going to suffer.”

Physicians in some states have already refused to treat women in the midst of a miscarriage for fear of being charged with a criminal act. So, despite that last line of the new South Dakota law, “reasonable medical judgement that performance of an abortion is necessary to preserve the life of a pregnant female,” I don’t trust that a doctor will necessarily prioritize my life over their own livelihood and freedom. It is a valid fear.

Wisconsin’s statute now states, “Providing an abortion is now a felony punishable by up to six years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.” There remains a clause in Wisconsin for the life of the mother as well, yet I still don’t want to be plunged into that gray area. No woman should be plunged into that gray area—to have to imagine begging for her life, her health, and the ability to continue to raise the two children she already brought into this world. 

When I said this to my husband (who is from Wisconsin), he asked if I was possibly being dramatic. He’s very rational about things and often thinks I’m overreacting. I wavered for a moment. And then I read a statement given to the New York Times by Wisconsin State Senator Kelda Roys: “Every District Attorney in the state is going to be empowered to potentially investigate miscarriages to test the limits of the law and see if they can put doctors in prison. It makes things very difficult for healthcare providers.” No one is overreacting here. 

I posted about my fear on Instagram over the weekend and received dozens of messages from pregnant women in states that have banned or restricted abortion access.

“Currently 33 weeks in Wisconsin and living in constant paralyzing fear.”

“Missouri - 15 weeks in and I’m back on the Zoloft I weaned myself off of to get pregnant because otherwise I’ll die of a panic attack thinking about what happens if I have a miscarriage.”

This issue is so much bigger than a philosophical game of deciding when a life does or does not begin. This is about saving the lives of women right now, about allowing doctors to make the decision to properly care for their patients without fear of prison or loss of their livelihood. 

I’m a 41-year-old woman with two healthy children who wasn’t planning on having another. But when I got pregnant, it was a welcome surprise. In theory, the banning of abortions shouldn’t impact me. And yet, of course it does. It impacts all of us—not just human beings with a uterus, but everyone who knows and loves a person who could have her healthcare compromised in this terrifying new reality.

I’m still getting on a plane a few days to report for a podcast on the life and complicated legacy of Laura Ingalls Wilder—ironically a woman who also didn’t have much agency over her life or her body back in the 19th century. If I’ve learned anything being a mother two times over, it’s that you can’t live in fear of what could happen. Anything can happen when you choose to bring a human being into this world, and a lot of it will break your heart and your body. But I won’t be going without a contingency plan. I’ll always make sure I know where the closest hospital is across the nearest state border. My team will be briefed on where we can safely go in case of the worst happening. And I won’t fall into a blissful sleep watching Speed or How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Instead, I’ll be worried for the pregnant women laying awake in fear, women who don’t have the luxury that I do of simply going home to a state—Pennsylvania—that will protect my health and my body for the rest of my pregnancy so that I can continue being a mother to my children who are already in this world.

Ashley Graham continues to be an inspiration.

Three months after giving birth to twins Roman and Malachi, the model has posted a mirror selfie wearing just underwear, in which she expresses gratitude towards her belly after pregnancy—implying that she's welcoming its new stretch marks as a symbol of what her body allowed her to do.

"Hi, new tummy. We’ve been through a lot. Thank you. #3monthspostpartum," Graham wrote.

It's far from the first time Graham has made waves with candid comments about what it's really like to give birth to human people.

After welcoming son Isaac with Justin Ervin in 2020, she wrote alongside another mirror selfie, "Raise your hand if you didn’t know you’d be changing your own diapers too ... After all these years in fashion I never could’ve guessed that disposable underwear would be my favorite piece of clothing but here we are! No one talks about the recovery and healing (yes even the messy parts) new moms go through. I wanted to show you guys that it’s not all rainbows and butterflies!"

She also addressed the topic of stretch marks directly in a 2020 interview with ELLE. "When I got pregnant, I had to reimagine my relationship with my body with this creature inside me taking over. I was gaining weight so rapidly. Then, to get stretch marks on my stomach, that to me was like, 'Oh my gosh. I can’t believe this happened,'" Graham told Kristen Bell. "At first it felt devastating, and then when I met Isaac, I said, 'No, this is exactly what every woman has talked about for ages. This is not just a battle wound. This is something that has changed my life forever, and I’m going to celebrate my new body.'" LOUDER!!

There's a reason you can't imagine Rihanna browsing Target's maternity section: She's simply not down to change her wardrobe habits just because she's carrying a child.

"When I found out I was pregnant, I thought to myself, There’s no way I’m going to go shopping in no maternity aisle," she tells Vogue for their latest cover story. "I’m sorry—it’s too much fun to get dressed up. I’m not going to let that part disappear because my body is changing."

Anyone got a counter-argument for that? Because I sure don't. Unfortunately, RiRi's stylist (Jahleel Weaver) sounds less thrilled about it all. "I know he loses sleep over it because my measurements can literally change from hour to hour," Rihanna added. "In fact I’m sure he’s going to ask for a raise after this!"

On a more serious note, the Fenty founder shared her pregnancy dressing philosophy, which incidentally is the perfect response to trolls who think she should hide her baby bump.

"I’m hoping that we were able to redefine what’s considered 'decent' for pregnant women," she told Vogue. "My body is doing incredible things right now, and I’m not going to be ashamed of that. This time should feel celebratory. Because why should you be hiding your pregnancy?" Damn right!

The star has been hailed as stretching the limits of possibility for pregnancy dressing since she announced she was expecting with ASAP Rocky. She has stepped out in a series of incredible baby bump-baring designer outfits that are true to her—and fair play. She wouldn't wear stretchy jeans pre-pregnancy, so why should she now?

Britney Spears shares two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, with ex Kevin Federline. Shortly after she announced her new pregnancy with fiancé Sam Asghari, attention started to turn to Federline's views on the matter.

Thankfully, the former backup dancer seems to have only good things to say to the star—even if he did say those things via his lawyer (...cute).

Speaking to NBC News, Federline's attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan said, "He wishes her the best for a happy, healthy pregnancy and congratulates her and Sam Asghari as they plan for the excitement of parenthood together."

At least he released a statement, TBH. Outside of Jamie Lynn Spears liking Britney's Instagram announcement, no other members of the "Toxic" singer's family have addressed the happy news publicly.

During her legal battle to terminate her 13-year conservatorship and in its aftermath, Britney has repeatedly called out her father, mother and sister for their role in her frankly horrific-sounding circumstances.

She has been dating Asghari since 2016, when they met on the set of one her music videos. From the outside, it seems like he has been one of the few people she could count on while she battled her closest family members.

Britney definitely has a relationship with her two sons, although it's unclear how often she gets to see them.

As for Federline, he married his current wife Victoria Prince in 2013. They share daughters Peyton Marie and Jordan Kay. Federline also has two older children from a former relationship, Kori Madison and Kaleb Michael, according to HollywoodLife.

It's never exactly been a secret that Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker want to have a baby together.

Anonymous sources have been pretty confident in their assertions that a pregnancy is just a matter of time for the recently engaged couple, and Kourtney herself even jokingly referred to Travis as her "baby daddy" at the VMAs last year. And let's not forget those wacky avocado-based rumors that Kourtney was in fact already pregnant (spoiler: she wasn't).

Until now, though, there wasn't much from the horse's mouth to go by, as it were. Not anymore!!! The first full-length trailer for The Kardashians on Hulu has been released, and oh my goodness is it juicy. Like, early-noughties Paris Hilton juicy. (Yes, I agree that was a hilarious joke, thank you.)

In said trailer, which is a full two minutes' worth of drama, Kourtney is heard saying, "Travis and I want to have a baby" over footage of them being really PDA-y (surprise surprise) and of Travis getting down on one knee. The lovebirds are then seen hanging out with a doctor who says, "put the sample in this cup." Kourtney then quips, "we'll take our mics off. You don't get the audio."

Aw, yay, cute.

BTW, FYI, Kourtney already has three kids with ex-partner Scott Disick, Mason, Penelope and Reign. Travis has two of his own, Alabama and Landon, whom he shares with ex-wife Shanna Moakler.

Speaking of Scott, he does appear in this trailer, which should appease all the fans crying, "WHERE'S SCOTT THO" in the comments on The Kardashians' previous teaser.

We see him accompanying Kim to a fitting and saying this absolute classic line to her: "they're gonna like you for who you are, not what you wear... I'm just kidding. Obviously." LOLOLOL, what a legend.

Pete Davidson sadly isn't in the trailer (we already know he doesn't appear in season 1), but Kim is seen texting him with a big ol' smile on her face. One of her sisters (Kendall?) can be heard telling her, "who you texting, Kim? Does his name rhyme with 'feet?'" Kim just happens to be wearing the outfit she wore for a dinner date with he-who-rhymes-with-feet in that scene, so...

Oh, you want more drama? Don't worry, Hulu has you covered, bb. Khloé, dressed in a super hot Barbie-pink top (I want it) tells the camera, "Tristan and I are complicated." The next clip shows her speaking to Tristan Thompson, telling him, "trust takes time"—a reality which, judging by the look on his face—doesn't seem to please him much. (As a reminder, that trust is pretty much broken indefinitely now.)

The Kardashians airs on Hulu April 14, which of course is in FAR TOO LONG. Good luck getting through this month, y'all.

Air raid sirens wailed and artillery explosions blasted outside the hospital windows, but Anna and Kateryna tried to focus their attention elsewhere: on delivering healthy babies. Meanwhile, Vladislava left behind her husband to evacuate to a safer part of the country as she enters the third trimester of her pregnancy. All three women have had to navigate giving birth as their hometowns of Kyiv, Irpin, and Bucha, respectively, are invaded by Russian troops. All are withholding their last names to protect their privacy.

As the war drags on, places once considered safe for civilians are being attacked—just this week, a maternity hospital in Mariupol was hit by a Russian air strike, leaving 17 injured, according to Ukrainian officials. 

We spoke to these three women about fear, survival, and bringing life into the world during such an uncertain and terrifying time. 

Anna

My daughter was born in Kyiv on February 23 by cesarean section. The next day, on the morning of February 24, when I was feeding my daughter, I heard explosions, but I couldn't quite believe it. This is exactly what I had been afraid of—that war would break out in my hometown—but now that it was here as I laid in the hospital with my brand-new daughter, it barely seemed real.

That night, medical staff went room to room telling patients to pack the most necessary things in an emergency backpack and be ready to evacuate to the underground bomb shelter. They said they would tell us when it was time to go. 

On the morning of the twenty-fifth, the first siren sounded, and we were promptly brought to the bomb shelter below ground. The shelter was filled with mothers and babies and doctors going from patient to patient to make sure we were all okay. Some doctors tended to the newborn babies, others gave the recovering mothers pain medication. The most impressive were the tiny premature babies, who were carried carefully with their life support systems by nurses.

Throughout the day, we shuffled back and forth from the hospital to the bomb shelter down below as sirens gave us warnings. 

Finally, my 4-day-old daughter and I were discharged from the hospital during an evacuation between sirens. I took her home, staying in constant contact with my doctor. 

On the sixth day after the birth, my sister and I decided to leave Kyiv with my daughter. I was too overwhelmed to stay. We packed up our necessities which fit in two small backpacks and a suitcase. Of course, we wanted to bring more of our things, but we understood that it would make our movement much more difficult.  

The trains leaving Kyiv were as full as possible, but we managed to get onto a train leaving for Lviv late that night. As soon as we got on the train, there was a loud explosion, and everyone in the train car dropped to the floor, unsure of what would happen next. I sat on the crowded train floor with my newborn daughter for a long time. I was afraid to get up.

Finally, the train pulled out of the station making the 12-hour trip to Lviv, 300 miles away. They were long and exhausting hours—the train had to stop often for traffic jams caused by other trains, some of which were knocked off the tracks or burned out. But still, we drove. As my daughter slept in my lap, I looked around at the other passengers, many of them were parents with their children and people with pets. 

Currently, I am in Lviv region. When I arrived, I was given medical care—my stitches were removed and my daughter was examined. I needed a stroller, and the volunteers found two. The people I have met here are wonderful. It is unbelievable what people are willing to do to help strangers.

The best news I’ve gotten since I arrived here was that I learned my 85-year-old father-in-law would be coming to stay with us. During the war, my country house was partially destroyed by a shell piece. My father-in-law was trapped there, without light or a way to communicate, surrounded by the Russian troops.  

But this week, a man who was taking children out of a neighboring country cooperative through the fields had one extra seat in the car; he took my father-in-law. We were so relieved that he was safe and able to come be with us—and to meet his granddaughter. 

Now, we are all together. And we are safe. But we don’t know what the future will bring. I try to read the news only twice a day, because I am worried that constant stress can affect my milk supply. I know that everything I do now affects the baby. 

Vladislava

I had just begun the third trimester of my pregnancy when I got a call from a colleague: The war had begun. I asked my husband to begin packing up our home in Bucha, but I went to work. I work in the media as a video editor and I thought there would be some time before any fighting made its way to where we live in Bucha—I thought the clash would remain in Luhansk and Donetsk regions. 

That first day, I thought to myself that we should have a full tank of fuel in the car, just in case. But I didn’t do that. And almost immediately, the constant pop, pop of shelling began raining down on my hometown, which is on the outskirts of Kyiv. 

Still, we did not decide to leave the city immediately. We did not know where exactly the occupiers' equipment was, which roads were safe, and whether we’d be able to get enough gas to get us where we needed to go. And, mostly, we were afraid of being under the fire, which we constantly heard outside of our window. Eventually, we got used to sound of shootings and did not wake up if the shots outside our window were quiet.

During the day, we tried to distract ourselves inside with household chores—cleaning, playing board games, or cooking. When we finally went outside, we found that the stores had been ransacked by looters. So, we went home to eat our homemade bread—it turned out delicious. 

After nine days, I learned from an acquaintance about the evacuation train for women and children from the neighboring city of Irpin, and I decided to use it. The train did not take men, so I went with my mother and underage brother. My husband had to stay behind. 

At the Irpin railway station, we almost came under fire, so we were evacuated in an alternative way—we had to cross the river on foot over the rickety, charred, bombed-out bridge.

That's how we got to the capital, where Ukrainian soldiers took us to the Kyiv train station. Due to the influx of people, we could not get on the first two trains heading to the Zakarpattia region in the West, so we decided to go in any western direction and accidentally got on the train to Lviv. 

The situation at the Lviv train station was even worse. There were no tickets, and hundreds of people were waiting in line for boarding. But we had a plan B—my husband’s relatives were there, so we stayed with them for the night and continued our journey in the morning. We are now in a safe place near the western border. I don't know what comes next; maybe we will have to cross the border.

Now, we watch the news all the time because we lost contact with many of our relatives, but we want to know what's going on. Accommodation was provided by friends of our friends and the Christian community. Some medical clinics have started volunteering and are conducting free examinations and ultrasounds for pregnant women, so we are taken care of—but it’s not the same going to the appointments without my husband. 

Currently, my husband is at the epicenter of the fighting. In Bucha, there is no electricity, water, communications, or food to meet basic needs. The best part of my day is when I get the morning text from him. He tells me, “Everything is okay. The night was quiet.” I don't know how quiet it actually was—maybe he is trying to save my nerves and the baby I’m carrying. But he's alive and that's the only thing that matters. I don’t know when he’ll be able to leave to be with us. It worries me sick. 

Kateryna

When everyone started talking about the war, I couldn’t believe it was really happening. I know that Russian military equipment was on Ukraine's borders and the probability of an invasion was very high, but it didn’t sink in until I got a call from my father. His voice was serious when he told me, “The war has begun.” 

Everything inside me grew cold. I was pregnant and days away from my due date. I felt defenseless and helpless. As people in my town of Irpin began to evacuate, I knew I could barely even walk, let alone run. I was left with the feeling that there was nothing I could do about it. I even felt unable to take care of my 8-year-old daughter. The same thought ran through my mind over and over again: How will I survive in these conditions?

On the second or third day of fighting, I finally realized that this was a real war. I wondered how and where to give birth. The situation in Kyiv, about an hour away, was difficult. Hospitals received the wounded. Maternity hospitals on the outskirts of my city are not in good condition. I was even thinking about giving birth at home and looking for midwives who work online. But my doctor convinced me that was dangerous because of the possibility of bleeding. So, I decided to go to Kyiv.  

I didn’t wait for labor to start, because I worried about getting there in time; I knew shooting could happen at any moment. But on my way to the hospital, my contractions began—my son was on his way. Luckily, I made it to the hospital in time, and my little boy was born safely. 

Normally, the drive from Irpin to Kyiv would be about an hour, but my family was in the car for eight hours—driving through gunfire and explosions—to come see me at the maternity ward. I was so worried waiting for them to arrive. I laid in my hospital bed scrolling through the endless feed of news updates hoping that my family—including my daughter—would get there safely. 

My whole family was welcomed into the maternity hospital.  My relatives were provided with a separate room where they could spend the night with their two big dogs and a cat. We knew that from here, they wouldn’t be able to return home, as the fighting was only getting worse. 

Once I was discharged, we left the maternity hospital for Western Ukraine. I think it is quite safe here.

I am grateful my family and I are all together, but I am closely watching what is happening in Kyiv and Irpin, because my soul and heart have remained there. I even feel a little bit like a traitor that I'm safe here, but so many people aren’t. And I can't help them. I constantly hear the sound of the air-raid sirens, even when there are none. When a door slams, I hear an explosion. War makes us all defenseless and exposes our humanity.

My consolation is the birth of a son. It is a confirmation that life goes on no matter what. The baby needs a lot of attention—and he needs me to be healthy. I look at him, and it gives me faith that everything will be fine, that one day it will all end and we will be able to return home.

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas were just spotted walking around Paris with daughter Willa, looking like the happiest little family. *Cue that one Barney song*

The Jonases were in town during Paris Fashion Week, although they weren't spotted front-row at any fashion shows to my knowledge. Instead, they took a nice stroll around the Tuileries Gardens, which is where the Louvre Palace is located.

They did, however, look extremely fashionable themselves—as is their lot. Turner wore a structured navy coat over a simple white tee, while Jonas wore an olive green bomber jacket.

But as great as their outfits were, it's really the spouses' hair that made the whole look. The Game of Thrones actress is currently sporting long red locks, while the Jonas Brother has let his black hair grow into a messy-yet-structured mop. They both wore sunglasses and looked fabulous.

The couple and their one-year-old, who was born in July 2020, were out and about amid the recent news that Willa will soon be an older sister to a new bundle of joy.

An insider told In Touch last week that Jonas and Turner "are absolutely ecstatic and can’t wait for Willa to have a sibling." The baby is reportedly due in the summer.

The Jonases are big fans of Paris: They last hung out there with friends in July 2021. Turner shared photos of their fun vacay on Instagram, writing, "Paris really is always a good idea." You see? Big fans.
