An official release date for Prime Video's Legally Blonde prequel series hasn't been announced. For all fans know, there isn't even a script. That didn't stop Reese Witherspoon from paying homage to Elle Woods with her recent outfit.

While out to lunch with Jenny Belushi in New York City, Reese Witherspoon updated her little black dress with a hot pink sweater flung over her shoulders. Fashion people might see the layer as a summer take on a favorite styling hack; cinephiles clock the hot pink hue as a reference to Elle Woods's magenta-coated wardrobe in the 2001 film and 2003 sequel. Any time Reese Witherspoon appeared onscreen as the plucky fashion-student-turned-Harvard-Law-student, she was wearing some shade of pink.

It's unclear whether the outfit is a Witherspoon original or belongs to her Morning Show character Bradley Jackson. The polished, norm-core business casual could go either way.

Last week, Marie Claire predicted the biggest denim trends of fall 2024. Among them were dark washes, baggy fits, skintight silhouettes, mixed materials, and extra wide legs. The actor took to Instagram Stories on Monday to share an incredible throwback picture of the two of them taken at the Legally Blonde premiere in 2001, captioning it, "We were hot and drenched in late 90's [sic] angst." He tagged Witherspoon and added in brackets, "such a cooler time than today."

In the photo, the exes look like a two-person optical illusion, her in a black and white striped dress, and him in a blue and white striped t-shirt vest. Witherspoon's dress was a high-necked halter with a wraparound skirt, and she wore her short-length bob slicked back. Meanwhile, Phillippe paired his muscle tee with baggy pants and pilot sunglasses, and wore his hair in a short mohawk.

Per People, Phillippe and Witherspoon got together circa 1997, got engaged in '98, tied the knot in '99, and welcomed their daughter Ava that same year. They also share son Deacon, born in 2003. The two announced their separation in 2006.

After fans have been clamoring for a return of the film series for years, and with Legally Blonde 3 still in limbo, it's been confirmed that Elle Woods will get a television debut.

On May 14, 2024, Variety reported that a Legally Blonde prequel series is in the works at Amazon Prime Video, with Reese Witherspoon set to executive produce. Created by Insecure alum Laura Kittrell, the show, titled Elle, will depict the "origin story" of Elle Woods, during her high school years in the '90s. According to the official description, viewers can expect to "learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first Legally Blonde film."

Who has been cast in as Elle Woods in 'Elle,' 'Legally Blonde' prequel series?

We officially know who will be playing Elle Woods as a teenager growing up in L.A.'s Bel Air neighborhood! Witherspoon herself revealed that up-and-comer Lexi Minetree had been cast in the role in mid-February 2025. According to her IMDb, Minetree is a Georgia native who studied Theatre and Public Relations at the University of South California, and her past acting credits include Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, the Lifetime movie The Paramedic Who Stalked Me, a handful of shorts, and several other small roles.

Witherspoon took to Instagram to break the news by sharing a video of herself telling Minetree firsthand, who was overjoyed and burst into tears to hear she got the part.

In the caption, Witherspoon wrote, "Allow me to introduce you to the new Elle Woods! After watching so many incredible auditions for the new Elle prequel series on @PrimeVideo, we finally found our Elle. And today, I got to break the news myself! Meet @leximinetree 💕🌟💅🏼."

The heartwarming video shows Witherspoon sitting down with Minetree (who she bears an uncanny resemblance to!) to tell her that she no longer has to audition because she landed the role. The clip also features shots of Minetree's self-tape in which she recreated clips of Legally Blonde, as well as footage of the young star calling her mom to tell her the good news.

Minetree was discovered through an open casting call that Witherspoon, her production company Hello Sunshine, and Prime Video put out in September 2024, hoping to find an unknown to play the SoCal fashion fiend.

Witherspoon shared news of the search on Instagram. She posted a video of herself (appropriately wearing pink) opening up about the plans.

In the caption, she wrote, "Our search for the high school version of Elle Woods is officially ON! 💖✨ With our friends @primevideo we’re making the casting process totally OPEN, so you can submit your auditions at the link in my bio… I’m SO excited to see all your fabulous takes on everyone’s favorite Gemini vegetarian! 💕👛🌟🎀."

The open casting went live in the fall of 2024 and closed by the end of October. According to the casting call, they were searching for someone over 18 to play 16-year-old Elle, described as "a driven, natural-born leader who will always stop to straighten another woman's crown."

The call also noted, "With Bel Air tastes and an allergy to social injustice, Elle's magnetic personality brightens the world with confidence, vulnerability, and an earnestness that charms everyone around her."

Who else is in the cast of 'Elle,' the 'Legally Blonde' prequel series?

Shortly after Minetree was announced as the lead, other names filling out the cast were revealed. In mid-March 2025, Deadline reported that June Diane Raphael will play Elle's mother, Eva. The comedic actress/writer is known for roles in series like Grace and Frankie and Burning Love, as well as co-hosting the podcasts "How Did This Get Made?" and "The Deep Dive." According to Deadline, Raphael's character is considered Elle's "role model" and is described as "polished, pragmatic, and thrives on keeping things picture-perfect."

We also know who will be playing Mr. Woods! In late March, Deadline confirmed Tom Everett Scott (The Summer I Turned Pretty, That Thing You Do) will play Elle's dad, Wyatt Woods. Though the character details of his wife and Elle's mom were released, they remained sparse about her dad.

In the original Legally Blonde movies, Elle's parents were played by Tane McClure and James Read. The pair was unnamed in the films and only had a small role in briefly trying to stop their daughter from going to Harvard Law School.

Even more casting news rolled out in the following weeks, including some of her classmates and her love interest! Relative newcomers Zac Looker, Jessica Belkin, and Logan Shroyer (who played teenage Kevin on This Is Us) will play Dustin, a social justice-obsessed schoolmate who frequently challenges authority, her best friend Madison, and her crush, who happens to be Madison's cousin, respectively.

Given the other roles announced, it seems like much of the show will be set at school. According to Deadline, Caroline in the City star Amy Pietz will play Donna, "the no-nonsense high school secretary," and Chloe Wepper (Liv and Maddie) will play Ms. Burke, "Elle’s chemistry teacher and choreographer to the high school cheer team." Meanwhile, Lisa Yamada and Kayla Maisonet will play Elle's school friends Amber and Tiffany, and David Burka will play the Woods family's neighbor Chad. Brad Harder was also cast, though his character details were not revealed.

When will 'Elle' be released?

What? Like it's hard to push a TV show through production? Over at Prime Video, production on Elle moved swiftly—and we already have a premiere date. In January 2026, Prime Video announced that Elle will premiere on Wednesday, July 1, 2026. The series arrives 25 years after Legally Blonde hit theaters in July 2001.

To celebrate the exciting news—along with an early season 2 renewal(!)—Witherspoon and Hello Sunshine shared a sweet clip of the Hollywood mogul FaceTiming with the cast. It's safe to say the rising stars are just as excited as we are!

Prime Video also unveiled the official poster for Elle, featuring none other than a baby Bruiser. The cute pup is (obviously) dressed in pink, sitting atop a shelf of books.

Fans have known for some time that Elle was due to premiere in summer 2026. Witherspoon first announced the tentative release date in May 2025 when she shared a photo of Minetree as the titular character, sitting at a desk in school. What will the 'Legally Blonde' prequel 'Elle' be about?

Details about Elle's plot were pretty scarce until the first trailer dropped (more on that below!) Until then, all we could mine for information was the casting call, which said the show would follow Elle "coming of age in the '90s." Fans can expect to see the young heroine "encounter her first love and her first heartbreak" and "develop her moral convictions."

More specifically, now we know the show will see her uprooted from her beloved, sunny Bel Air lifestyle to the brooding Pacific Northwest after her father lands a new job. That's sure to test her patience—but might just broaden her horizons, too!

Is there a trailer for 'Elle,' the 'Legally Blonde' prequel series?

There sure is! Prime Video unveiled the first teaser for Elle in early May, nearly two months before the premiere date. If you had any reservations about the show, fear not: It looks adorable. Not only does the clip reveal the show's plot of the young Angelino being uprooted to Seattle—amid its grunge craze, no less—it teases the show's brand of humor and delightful, perfectly pink wardrobe. There's also just the right amount of nods to the original film; prepare for the "Perfect Day" needle drop to bring on all the excitement.

Is 'Legally Blonde 3' still happening?

A Hollywood production can take a while to go from rumor to reality, but the third Legally Blonde film's timeline has left fans scratching their heads. Most of the original film's cast have said they'd be down to return—from Witherspoon herself to Jennifer Coolidge to Luke Wilson. There's even an A-lister signed on to write the screenplay: Mindy Kaling got the gig, alongside Dan Goor, back in 2020. However, there haven't been any updates on the highly anticipated reboot for quite some time.

The most recent news came from Kaling, who addressed the Legally Blonde 3 delay during a podcast appearance in September 2023, when the Hollywood strikes were ongoing. “Obviously, now we sort of have pencils down because of the writers’ strike, but it’s had a couple of iterations over the past couple of years,” she said at the time, later adding that the project is progressing “a little more slowly than we like, but [it’s] just because we really want it to be good."

In a new TikTok video, Phillippe jams to "Just A Girl" from the Clueless soundtrack, as the words, "NBD but I just achieved a major milestone as a woman online..." appear on the screen.

She continues, "I saw 2 different strangers commenting on my body. The first said I should get on Oz*mpic because I'm too fat... The second accused me of starving myself because I'm too thin..."

At this point, Phillippe picks up a red lipstick and begins applying it. Her words read, "My weight did not change in the time period between their comments (& it wouldn't be any of their business if it did!)"

She then dragged the lipstick across her cheek, Joker-style, as the words on screen read, "It's such bullsh*t."

With the UC Berkeley grad off screen, her words read, "No one deserves to be picked apart for what they look like. You don't always know what someone's gone through or what they struggle with.

"But no matter who you are... Your beauty exceeds such superficial measures."

Phillippe captioned her video, "Pretty is as pretty does, babes...& bodyshaming is simply toxic behavior. #loveyouasyouare

This isn't the first time Phillippe has responded to online haters. In 2022, she wrote in an Instagram Story, "QUICK REMINDER: I can & will block profiles commenting bigoted/hateful messages under my posts" (via the Daily Mail). "My Instagram profile is not a place for cruelty/hate speech & I intend to do what I can to keep it that way. Peace & Love."

Is the era of the A-list movie star a relic of the past? Maybe, according to Reese Witherspoon, who spoke at an event for her Apple TV+ series The Morning Show, which she stars in alongside Jennifer Aniston. Witherspoon said, per The Hollywood Reporter, that she wasn’t sure that careers like her’s and Aniston’s were possible anymore thanks to streaming, the outlet reported.

Asked by interviewer Kara Swisher about this particular time in tech and media—roughly six months after the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike—Witherspoon said that the streaming landscape has changed in recent months.

“Streaming was, like, the biggest thing for three to four years, and there was a never-ending constant smash for content, and, like, literally, we could sell anything,” said Witherspoon, who, in addition to acting, also frequently executive produces content. “What I’m seeing right now, I think from the buying and selling landscape side of it, is that probably part of the strike was a reset for these studios that are not profitable—the streaming services—and an opportunity for them to resize, rework, and cut costs. So we’re going to probably see less stuff, which is probably good, right? It was just chaos. It was a flea market. We can slow down a little bit. But there’s going to be more intention around it, and it’s going to be a little bit harder.”

Witherspoon said she wonders and worries what the future will be like for actors in Hollywood, pointing to her co-star Aniston beside her and asking “Are careers like ours possible ever again? Are there opportunities for people to really emerge as a star? How do you know with no data transparency? How do we even know if something did well or didn’t do well?” 

Witherspoon added that Netflix is “pretty transparent about it” and reveals some figures, but “the other people don’t. And it’s tough as an actor—how do you negotiate? How does a producer? How do you market? If you don’t know where you sit in a landscape, how do you value something?” She added “There’s real amounts of data, too, and they’ve got a lock on it. They don’t want you to have the advantage, and it’s tough.”

Aniston shared her own thoughts on working in Hollywood today: “We did start in this industry in a time when it was so glamorous and so fun, and [you would] just go on auditions and auditions and just hope that you get it,” she said. “And if you did get that Movie of the Week and then hope you get that little guest star on Quantum Leap. When it was so simple, and now it is becoming so…it’s too much sometimes.” 

As for when we can expect season four of The Morning Show, at the event it was noted that it wouldn’t be until sometime after the presidential election in November, showrunner Charlotte Stoudt said.

Reese Witherspoon has some extremely fond memories of her time on the set of the beloved television series Friends and despite being nervous.

"Being on Friends, still to this day, is one of my scariest moments ever, because it was in front of a live audience, and I had never really done theater. I'd never been in front of a live audience," the actress told People.

For the uninitiated, Witherspoon played Jill Green, the younger sister to Jennifer Aniston's iconic character Rachel Green, who ended up attempting to date Aniston's love interest, Ross Geller, play by David Schwimmer.

Anxious or not, Witherspoon did bring baby Ava, now 24, to the show's historic set.

"Jen was just the sweetest to me," Witherspoon explained. "I'd just had a baby, and I remember her and Courteney running to my dressing room going: 'Can we see the baby?' 'You have a baby?' I was like: 'I do y'all, I have a baby.' They were like: 'Can we hold the baby?'"

Not only did Ava get some very special attention and love from the Friends cast, she was able to spend some time on an iconic part of the historic television show's set.

"I got to put her on the couch in Central Perk, and still have a little picture of her at Central Perk," she says of the show's famous coffee shop and workplace of Gunther, played by the late, great James Michael Tyler.

In a 2023 appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Witherspoon once again reiterated that she was "terrified" while shooting the episode.

"I was out of my body," she told the late night host at the time. "I was—my body was there and then my head and my brain were somewhere else."

She went on to say that she can "still remember" her lines, and that she will always remember that she appeared on friends "23 years ago because now my baby is 23."

In a 2019 interview with Harper's Bazaar, The Morning Show star recalled how Aniston helped calm her down as she prepared to film her Friends appearance in front of a live audience.

"She was so sweet to me. I was really nervous, and she was like: 'Oh, my gosh—don’t worry about it!' I marveled at her ability to perform in front of a live audience like that with no nerves," she said at the time.

"They would change all the lines and she was just so effortlessly affable, bubbly, and sunny," she added. "We’ve been friends ever since."

It has been a full 21 years since Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde—the followup to the 2001 original—came to the screen in 2003. Fans of the Reese Witherspoon-helmed franchise have been clamoring for a Legally Blonde 3 since, and while we’re not getting a film (yet, anyway), good news on this front: we’re getting a television series, multiple outlets report.

Variety reports that Witherspoon is executive producing the series under her Hello Sunshine banner, along with the duo behind Gossip Girl and The OC, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (who are also writing the series). Plot details surrounding the series aren’t confirmed yet, but the show will be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.

The original film was a massive box office success, grossing over $140 million worldwide. A stage musical based on the 2001 movie debuted on Broadway in 2007, and received multiple Tony nominations.

It’s unclear if Witherspoon will star in the series in addition to executive producing, but she previously told The Hollywood Reporter that she was interested in revisiting Elle in her forties: “I want to discover what age means to that character,” she said in 2019. “Aging, contemporary ideas, how things have evolved—or not evolved.”

And, in addition to the series, we shouldn’t give up hope of a future film happening—Deadline reports that Legally Blonde 3, co-written by Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor, has been in the works for several years. Kaling acknowledged that writing the sequel was “going a little more slowly than we like” back in April 2022, four years after Witherspoon announced the project in June 2018. The reason? “Just because we really want it to be good,” Kaling said. “I think of it like Reese’s Avengers. Elle Woods is like her Captain America, and so you don’t want to be the person that messes up that story.” 

A few months later, though, Witherspoon gave an encouraging update, saying that Top Gun: Maverick had given her inspiration to do Legally Blonde 3 correctly. “I feel like these characters are my friends, so I safeguard them,” she told USA Today. “I would never make the subpar, mediocre version of their story.”

More than 20 years later, Sweet Home Alabama could be getting a second life. The 2002 rom-com, which starred Reese Witherspoon, Patrick Dempsey, and Josh Lucas, is a fan favorite—and rumors are swirling about a potential sequel.

While nothing is set in stone yet, the cast has been receptive to the possibility over the years. In 2022, for instance, Witherspoon said on TODAY with Hoda & Jenna that a sequel "would be a great idea" (via People). Lucas, too, said in 2018 that he'd "do it in a second."

"I think it would be so fascinating to see where these two characters and the children and where everyone ended up. Are they still together? Are they divorced? Do they want to be back together?" Lucas said on The Talk. "I mean, the fact that they were together from when they were children, I would love to see what’s going on 20 years later."

The movie follows Witherspoon's Melanie, a designer who returns to her Southern hometown and reconnects with her first love, played by Lucas. Fans can only assume the two lived happily ever after—but they wouldn't mind seeing their life together played out onscreen.

And while two-plus decades is a pretty long time to wait between movie installments, anything is possible. After all, one of Witherspoon's other classic 2000s franchises, Legally Blonde, has been reported to have a third movie in development for years now. (Plus, people won't stop asking Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews about The Princess Diaries 3.) If a Sweet Home Alabama sequel were to happen, fans would surely be thrilled.

Back in November, Nicole Kidman confirmed that, at last, there would be a season three of HBO’s hit Big Little Lies after season two wrapped five years ago, in 2019.

“I loved Big Little Lies, because it sort of came along at a time in my life when I had my children and I was thinking I was going to retire,” she said. “And then this situation came along where Reese Witherspoon and I were able to produce that show and create that show. And then all of you watched it and made it a massive success. And we will bringing you a third one, just FYI.” 

In a new interview with Elle, Kidman said that the five-year break was necessary: “There’s the richness of the storylines, which we’d always discussed, but it needed time because there’s actual unbelievable depth to the next chapter of these women’s lives and their children’s lives—because children grow up, and that’s kind of fascinating,” she said.

The show—which stars the powerhouse ensemble cast of Kidman, Witherspoon, Laura Dern, Zoe Kravitz, Shailene Woodley, and Meryl Streep—was last onscreen in July 2019 after its debut two years prior. The show is based off of a 2014 novel of the same name by Liane Moriarty (who also wrote Nine Perfect Strangers and Apples Never Fall, which have both been made into shows on Hulu and Peacock, respectively) and the Big Little Lies screen adaptation amassed eight Emmys. It takes us through the lives of high-powered yet troubled moms living in Monterey, California.

In 2021, at just 58 years old, the show’s director Jean-Marc Vallée died “suddenly and unexpectedly,” his representative said, the result of a fatal cardiac arrythmia. His loss also contributed to the delay in season three, and many thought it would shutter the show for good. As the cast plans to head back to Monterey, their respective busy schedules are proving a bit prohibitive (after all, they are some of the biggest actresses in the world), but their offscreen friendship is helping to continually propel the project forward, Kidman said.

“I think when you’re all scattered and never sort of cross paths, it’s very, very different,” she said. “But when you’re all still very intertwined, that’s what makes it doable, because there’s a willingness, and you want to spend time together.”

And where shall we send a thank you card for the push for season three to finally happen? Well, to someone unexpected, actually. “My daughter is the one who watched both of the [seasons] and went, ‘Okay, there’s just no question, there has to be a third,’” Kidman said. “She’s like, ‘Celeste, she’s not coping in the second one, what is she doing? I could kind of see the point of view of Mary Louise.’”

In addition to sharing two children with ex-husband Tom Cruise, Kidman and husband Keith Urban are parents to two teenage girls, Sunday Rose, 15, and Faith Margaret, 13.

“I love teenage girls,” Kidman said. “I just find them exquisite. I marvel at that age group and what they’re dealing with, but also their ability to handle so much.”

"I think I'm a Yorkie," Witherspoon said in the video. "Or, you know what I'm not? I'm not a Rottweiler. I'm not a Doberman Pinscher." She then admitted that, in a moment of self-reflection, she "could be a Golden Retriever."

"But that little Dachshund one, isn't it cute?" she added. "I saw one of those golden ones at the mall, and I picked it up, and I almost put it in my purse."

Haven't we all been tempted to do that?

The Legally Blonde actress continued pondering her what dog breed she might be, before asking fans for their help in the very important matter.

"If somebody out there has a dog that looks like me, I will come meet your dog," she said. "Oh, I will. But, I've got to agree. Send me a picture. I will come meet your dog. I'm talking, like, a Yorkie. I'm talking like a mini Dachshund, one of the golden ones."

The chance to meet Witherspoon? Dog owners are no doubt dropping everything to send the multihyphenate pictures!

"But you're also going to need to change the name of your dog to Reese Witherspoon," she joked. (This is a reasonable request, just saying.)

Witherspoon also posted a photo of herself with a friend's dog as an example of what she's talking about. I have to say, the likeness is uncanny. That might just be Reese Barkspoon.

I'm not sure why she needs a dog lookalike when she's got a clone in her daughter, Ava Philippe. The two look nearly identical.

Aside from her mini-me, Witherspoon has two other children, sons Deacon and Tennessee.

This Paris Fashion Week is turning out to be a family affair. First we saw Kylie Jenner and Stormi Webster having a stylish Mommy & Me moment at Valentino. Then Rihanna and A$AP Rocky proved their love was couture, and brought their sons RZA and Riot to Paris.

Now Reese Witherspoon and her clone daughter Ava Philippe are the latest to show that fashionable genes don't just mean denim.

Forget sisters; these two could be identical twins!

The mother daughter duo were front row at today's Fendi Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2024 runway. Despite their similar features, the two were dressed very differently.

Witherspoon opted for a black mock turtleneck minidress, with long sleeves and a pleated skirt. It's a far cry from her Elle Woods days.

She paired this classic LBD with a red handbag and black sling-back heels. Her accessories were simple, and she wore black oversized sunglasses — it's giving Jackie Kennedy energy.

As for Philippe, the twenty-four-year-old also wore a turtleneck, but in the form of a yellow top tucked into a taupe leather miniskirt.

She layered this under a simple grey trenchcoat, paired with a baby blue handbag and white heels.

Philippe also brought out shades for the City of Lights (and paparazzi) but went for a trendy small oval-shaped style.

She looks just as comfortable as her famous mom in front of the cameras, if not even more.

Just in case you somehow missed it, the wide world of the internet is up in arms because Reese Witherspoon made what she called a “chococinno,” featuring a controversial ingredient: snow.

It all started innocently enough on TikTok (famous last words) when Witherspoon “Decided to make a recipe.” She christened this unique frozen beverage a “snow salt Chococinno”—and the universe freaked out.

“Okay, so we’ve had a ton of snow over the past few days,” Witherspoon said. “We decided to make a recipe.” The video showed someone scooping large chunks of snow off of what appeared to be a vehicle, People reports, and dropping it into coffee mugs. Witherspoon then added salted caramel syrup and chocolate syrup into the mugs, “just ‘cause we like how they taste together,” she said. Cold brew completed the concoction for a “yummy coffee flavor,” Witherspoon added, before enjoying the cold treat. “This is so good,” she exclaimed after taking a spoonful.

She captioned her TikTok “Snow days were made for Chococinnos.” (And Witherspoon jokes were made for this moment. Get it? With-her-spoon? Yeah. I'll see myself out now.)

Fans grew concerned that the Oscar winner was eating snow—like, really concerned. “No no no..snow is not made to eat..u can get seriously sick,” one commented. Another chimed in with the sage advice (and conciliatory words) that “Fallen snow can be very dirty from the air and wind but who cares. You only live once. I remember eating snow as a kid.”

But Witherspoon, the brave warrior that she is, didn’t back down from her decision to eat snow. Possibly adopting the mantra of the aforementioned fan, Witherspoon came back on camera for a follow-up video and said “Okay, so we’re kind of in a category of ‘You only live once’ and it snows maybe once a year here. I don’t know! Also, I want to say something: It was delicious. It was so good.” 

Her defense of the decision continued in another clip: “Okay, talking about the snow not being filtered, I didn’t grow up drinking filtered water,” Witherspoon said. “We drank out of the tap water. We actually put our mouths on the tap and then sometimes, like in the summer when it was hot, we drank out of the hose—like, we put our mouth on the hose, growing up.”

She further quipped “Maybe that’s why I’m like this. So what you’re saying to me is I have to filter the snow before I eat it? I just can’t. Filtered snow. I don’t know how to do that.”

Stand firm, Reese. We’ve got your back. Filtered snow has no place here.

Whether you're headed to the movies or an actual red carpet, there's no date quite like a mother-daughter date. Besides the joy of spending time with someone who knows you well, the echoes of "are you related?" can warm your heart. While Reese Witherspoon and Ava Phillippe are probably never going to be asked that question (there's no doubt that these two share a gene pool), it's still a treat to see them out together. On Sunday, January 14, the duo walked the Critics Choice Awards red carpet arm in arm, looking even more alike than usual.

Sure, there were obvious differences in their glam—Phillippe's middle-parted blonde hair was styled in soft waves, while Witherspoon's was sleek and straight. But the similarities were much more evident. Those coral lips! The smoky eyes! Plus, they have the same face.

Celebrity makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan Fisher used a collection of ILIA beauty products to craft Witherspoon's look. To start things off, she applied the brand-new The Base Face Milk for a "calming boost of moisture for smooth, soothed skin ready for makeup." The rest of the complexion featured Bright Start Activated Eye Cream, Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40, and True Skin Serum Concealer—plus a little blush courtesy of Multi-Stick in the peach-pink "Whisper."

For the main events, she went with a "warm smoky eye" that made use of three colors from the Necessary Eyeshadow Palette in "Warm Nude": "Cocoon," "Lineup," and "1979." On the lips, Color Block Lipstick in "Cinnabar" (a "gorgeous deep coral," according to the artist).

As for the outfits, both ladies opted for a strapless look, with Phillippe wearing Monique Lhuillier and Witherspoon in Celine. And while there's no breakdown for Phillippe's makeup (yet!), she certainly took cues from her mama, going for a similar warm smoky eye—an easy choice, as they have the exact same eye color—and lipstick just a shade or two lighter.

"The best ‘date’ there is!" commented the 24-year-old on her mom's Instagram post. Whether she's talking Reese Witherspoon or mothers in general, she's right.

It was apparently bring your kid to work day on the red carpet last night, as Heidi Klum’s doppelganger daughter Leni Klum coordinated with her mom in glittering gowns at the 2024 HEAVEN gala in L.A., while in another part of town Reese Witherspoon and her lookalike son Deacon Phillippe coordinated in suit jackets at the 2024 Vanity Fair pre-Golden Globes party.

Heidi and Leni stepped out in shimmering strapless neckline dresses with sequins on the red carpet at The Art of Elysium’s 25th Anniversary HEAVEN Gala, where they posed in couture for the one night only art installation at the Wiltern Theater. Heidi wore a glittering strapless Monique Lhuillier dress that mixed pale pink fabric that functioned as a second skin adorned with a gold floral design on the double tulle fabric, which she paired with strappy gold Aquazzura heels; Leni wore a sparkling bright red Marmar Halim gown, matching floral choker, and Santoni shoes. Like her mom before her, Leni is also a model; she has walked for Dolce & Gabbana, graced the covers of Vogue Germany and Glamour Germany, and launched a line of workout clothes called About You, The Daily Mail reports. While Heidi and Leni’s gowns were similar and certainly complemented each other, they weren’t too matchy-matchy—coordinated, but not kitschy. Heidi’s red nails tied it all together with Leni’s red dress.

Leni is the eldest of Heidi’s four kids with ex-husband Seal, which also include Henry, Johan, and Lou. Also in attendance at last night’s event at the Wiltern included Bella Thorne, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jason Segel, and Christina Hendricks, among others.

Meanwhile, Witherspoon and her son Phillippe wore coordinated suit jackets at the Chateau Marmont, where they attended the 2024 Vanity Fair pre-Golden Globes party. Phillippe wore a classic navy suit while his mom stunned in a red couture Monique Lhuillier midi dress, red velvet heels, and a bright red lip; she covered up in an oversized black blazer. The black on Witherspoon’s blazer coordinated well with the black piping on Phillippe’s lapels.

Phillippe is Witherspoon’s middle child; she is also mom to daughter Ava and younger son Tennessee (she shares Ava and Deacon with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe and Tennessee with ex-husband Jim Toth). And, in addition to the mother-son duo, other celebrities turned up at Vanity Fair’s party last night, including Nicolas Cage, Helen Mirren, Kathryn Hahn, and Tobey Maguire.

When she's not busy twinning with her daughter, Reese Witherspoon is making major moves. Not even two major, industry-halting Hollywood strikes could stop her from working this year.

Is that because the multi-hyphenate does so much more than acting with her company, Hello Sunshine, and therefore has plenty with which to occupy her time? Yes, it is. That's exactly it, actually. And it's also probably why their events and creations play a central part in Witherspoon's 2023 Instagram round-up video.

"What an incredible year 2023 was!!!" the caption reads. "✨ Filled with SO many amazing, dream-come-true moments for @hellosunshine, a second BUSY BETTY book and such special moments with the ones I love 💛 On to the next… 💫

From her work producing and/or acting in the likes of The Morning Show, Daisy Jones & The Six, Tiny Beautiful Things, Surf Girls, and her children's book series, Busy Betty, Witherspoon isn't really so much tooting her own horn as she is the horns of the hundreds of people with whom she works alongside. And honestly, would you expect anything less from someone like Witherspoon?

Were there also a few snaps of her family and friends in there? Yes! Of course. But by the looks of the video, the accomplishments Witherspoon most wants to share are those of her bustling media empire, a place she created to tell women's stories (and, by the looks of it, employ a lot of them, too). And, you know what? We think that's kind of nice, all things considered.

And if this is what she was able to accomplish during a strike year? Imagine what next year's wrap-up will bring!

Another day, another moment where actress/mogul Reese Witherspoon and her daughter Ava Phillippe prove their genetic makeup is near-identical in many different ways.

This time? It's because it's Christmas! So naturally, the mother-daughter duo took a photo to document the occasion and remind us all again about how sometimes the mirror has two faces (Witherspoon's other kids were there, too).

Momma Reese posted the Instagram in a carousel on Tuesday morning.

Of course, Ava was not the only child who got in on taking photos with mom that day. Ryan Phillippe doppleganger, Deacon Phillippe, was also in attendance at the familial festivities, which included a cameo from their younger brother, Tennessee Toth. There were even some images of Reese's nieces, Abby James and Draper Witherspoon.

Witherspoon also shared snaps of her decorated tree and well-appointed Christmas dinner table, complete with an eggnog cake and some seriously snackable-looking cookies—as evidenced by the several photos she included of her dogs looking at them with intense longing.

We can't help but wonder if these adorable pup pics aren't also some sort of subliminal advertising for Hello Sunshine's newest project, Reese's Bark Club, a subscription service for dogs in partnership with Blue Buffalo. We're not mad about it, for the record. Who could be mad about dogs? We're just wondering! Because, as Reese said, few things are better than "curling up with a good book and a puppy." Especially during the holidays—how else are you supposed to successfully sleep off a food coma?

'Tis the season to be twinning!

Actresses and best friends Reese Witherspoon and Laura Dern celebrated the holiday season in matching, festive (and affordable) outfits this year. In two photos posted to Witherspoon's Instagram, the BFFs are wearing matching white crewneck sweaters paired with matching, ankle-length sequin skirts.

"Spreading Holiday joy ... it's exhausting," Witherspoon captioned the post.

In the first photo, the besties are all smiles as they pose in front of a gorgeously decorated Christmas tree. In the second photo, they look tired, disheveled, and, well, like how every other hardworking mother looks during the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.

Witherspoon chose to compliment her matching ensemble with a pair of black, close-toed heels. Dern decided to go with a splash of color, selecting a pair of red pointed shoes and a matching red clutch.

In a post on her own Instagram, Dern shared a photo of the two actresses posing as if they are speaking on the phone.

"Listen, I said get Santa on the horn, STAT," Dern captioned the post. We’ve got a skirt emergency."

The A-line, sparkling maxi skirt is from Old Navy, only costs $40 (we love a good deal!) and was previously modeled by Natasha Lyonne in her holiday campaign for the brand, as reported by People. 

(Dern and Witherspoon aren't the only ones with a skirt emergency—the festive A-line skirt is now sold out on Old Navy's website.)

The holiday gathering appears to have been hosted by Property Brothers personality and host of Celebrity IOU, Jonathan Scott.

"Holidaying takes a lot out of you," he commented on Witherspoon's post. "Thanks for coming…it was a magical night."

"Haha. I said no long distance calls to Santa!!!" he wrote on Dern's. Thank you for coming…so much fun."

In the comments, Witherspoon said the evening was filled with "so much caroling , and eggnog and catching up!" The FOMO is real.

The Morning Show costars Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon coordinated in black looks for the series’ Tastemaker cocktail party in L.A., with Aniston opting for a black jumpsuit with a festive (yet subtle) bow detail, high-waisted straight leg black pants, black strappy heels, and a black shoulder bag with a gold chain strap. She accessorized with gold bangles and, highlighting her strapless neckline, a minimalist necklace.

For her part, Witherspoon wore a black sweater with crystal detailing on the collar, a black tweed miniskirt, and black strappy pumps. For the event, Aniston and Witherspoon were joined by a slew of their fellow The Morning Show castmates, including Jon Hamm, Karen Pittman, Tig Notaro, and Nestor Carbonell.

Aniston and Witherspoon’s working relationship didn’t begin with The Morning Show—they worked together as far back as Aniston’s days on Friends playing Rachel Green. Witherspoon joined the show and played Rachel’s younger (and spoiled) sister, Jill Green. “She was so sweet to me,” Witherspoon said of Aniston in a 2019 Harper’s Bazaar interview. “I was really nervous, and she was like, ‘Oh my gosh—don’t worry about it!’ I marveled at her ability to perform in front of a live audience like that with no nerves. They would change all the lines and she was just so effortlessly affable, bubbly, and sunny. We’ve been friends ever since.”

Witherspoon will get to continue working alongside Aniston for the series’ fourth season, which was announced earlier this year. During a special screening and Q&A session for The Morning Show that same day, Aniston discussed the show’s upcoming season and what viewers can expect, per The Daily Mail: “It’s watching this big move that Alex made at the end of season three and how’s that working out for you?” Aniston said. “That position and that huge merge happening, and to see how gracefully that she walks through that.”

Witherspoon added that she is excited to see the merger play out in season four, as well as how real-life events will affect the series: “The thing I like about our show is that they pivot based on what they see happening in the world,” Witherspoon said. “So there is already so much to address in the time span when we start again. But there will be so much more. I mean, it’s an ever-evolving media landscape.”

The two spoke of their ongoing personal and professional relationship in a joint interview with Variety, where Aniston said “We’ve been in each other’s lives for 20-something years. It’s just in our DNA that we are collaborators. We’re partners. We’re friends. We’re girlfriends, we share all sorts of heartbreaks in life and love and everything.”

Witherspoon added, “There’s a comfort to that. It’s just mutual respect and years of experience. And I think we’re both incredulous that we’re both still kicking around! That we’re still working at this level is such a privilege. It’s an honor to get to contribute to something that’s really speaking about the world we live in nowadays.”

Here’s some good news for your Sunday: Nicole Kidman, one of the stars of HBO’s Big Little Lies, has confirmed that there will indeed be a third season of the show, E! News reports.

“I loved Big Little Lies, because it sort of came along at a time in my life when I had my children and I was thinking I was going to retire,” Kidman said while speaking onstage at a Ladies Professional Golf Association Q&A event in Naples, Florida. “And then this situation came along where Reese Witherspoon and I were able to produce that show and create that show. And then all of you watched it and made it a massive success.” Taking a beat before delivering the big news, Kidman then added “And we will be bringing you a third one, just FYI.”

The show was last onscreen in July 2019, and fans have long asked for a third season of the series, which stars Kidman, Witherspoon, Laura Dern, Zoe Kravitz, and Shailene Woodley (Meryl Streep was added to the cast for the show’s second season). Originally debuting in 2017, Big Little Lies is based off of a 2014 novel of the same name by Liane Moriarty about high-powered yet troubled moms living in Monterey, California. It won eight Emmy Awards.

The show’s director Jean-Marc Vallée died “suddenly and unexpectedly,” his representative said, in 2021 at just 58 years old, the result of a fatal cardiac arrhythmia. His loss is why Kravitz said the show was likely done for good: “I don’t think it is [returning],” she said last year. “We talked about doing a season three a lot and, unfortunately, Jean-Marc Vallée, our incredible director, passed away this last year and I just can’t imagine going on without him. He really was the visionary for that show. So, unfortunately, it’s done.”

Never say never! Kidman herself was skeptical of the show’s return back in 2021, where she said on “Andy Cohen Live” on SiriusXM “I don’t know. I know that we would,” she said, per Us Weekly. “We all are very, very good friends, and the idea of working together again. I mean literally Laura just texted me…But yeah, the idea of being together and, you know, [you get to a] point in your life where you go, ‘Gosh, it’s just—it’s nice to be around the people I like being around and working with the people I like working around,’ let alone on a hit show like that. So, you know, but that is not, it’s not on the cards, but yeah, we would like to do it.”

No release date has been set for the show.

Britney Spears’ bombshell memoir, The Woman in Me, has only been on shelves for three weeks, but it has broken a slew of records—and a screen adaptation is coming, Page Six reports. The rights to the tell-all are currently being fought over by the likes of Reese Witherspoon, Brad Pitt, and Margot Robbie, who would produce the movie or television series, the outlet reports.

Interestingly, Page Six reports that Shonda Rhimes—who wrote Spears’ 2002 movie Crossroads—doesn’t have her name in the hat for the book’s rights. “Shondaland is not pursuing this project,” a spokesperson for the company said. 

As the book is just three weeks post-release, the planned adaptation is still in its very early stages, but interest continues to mount: “It’s only beginning to take shape,” a source said.

Page Six reports that Spears apparently rescheduled a recent meeting with an unnamed top producer “at the last minute” because she “didn’t feel up to it,” and that she is “overwhelmed by the response” and the “media frenzy surrounding it.” Her team is “hold[ing] off on making any major decisions about where the rights end up until she has time to catch her breath,” they said.

Spears is also apparently in talks for a documentary in which she will participate—to the tune of $40 million.

If you’re among the three people who haven’t yet read The Woman in Me (or its rampant coverage in the media), Spears reveals details about her three-year relationship with Justin Timberlake (including terminating a pregnancy), her 13-year conservatorship, her rise to fame, relationships and marriages, and more. It topped The New York Times’ bestseller list, selling 1.1 million copies in the U.S. in its first week alone.

Reese Witherspoon vulnerably got emotional at an event her media company, Hello Sunshine, hosted in Los Angeles yesterday, telling the audience assembled that, during a difficult period in her life about a year ago, she realized that she was “the glue in everybody’s life, whether it’s work or being a mom or being a partner, but who is holding you together, you know?” She added “We hold up so much for so many.”

In addition to the many roles Witherspoon holds—mom, actress, producer, philanthropist, founder, for starters—Witherspoon is also a fantastic friend, as fellow actress Jennifer Garner shared at the “Shine Away” event yesterday, detailing how Witherspoon helped her during a dark chapter in her life.

“I think back to going through a very public, very hard moment in my life,” Garner told Witherspoon at yesterday’s event. “This one was right there.”

And, in addition to emotional support, Witherspoon also encouraged another form of healing—dance. “The way I needed to get through it was to dance cardio,” Garner said, per E! News. “And I dance cardio-ed so hard, we broke her foot—but she kept going.” To this, Witherspoon added “Just keep dancing, ladies. Just keep dancing.” 

Even a broken foot didn’t stop this pair. “It was like, ‘Okay, we worked out at 7, on vacation,’” Garner said. “'We’re going to work out again at 2.' She’s like, ‘Okay, uh huh, I’m going to be there. I’m going to be there.’”

Though neither Garner nor Witherspoon shared when this happened or what Garner was facing exactly, E! News reports that Witherspoon previously twisted her foot in 2011, which could mean something, or it could mean nothing. In 2015, Garner went through what she herself described as a challenging time in her life when she split from her husband, Ben Affleck, who is also the father of her three children.

“Going through it in public is not what’s hard, going through it is what’s hard, A,” she told The Hollywood Reporter in 2021. “And B, my children’s eyes are on me.” 

Garner is an unflinchingly positive person, though, and of herself, she said “I’ve learned that I’m pretty sturdy,” she told People in 2021. “I’m okay when I’m in the house by myself. I’m okay when it’s just the kids and me. I’m okay when they fall apart. I mean, I have my moments, but pretty much, I’m really okay.”

Reese Witherspoon was extraordinarily and bravely candid and vulnerable as she opened up about personal challenges she faced a year ago, saying that she “cried and cried” after feeling like she was a robot that “broke,” E! News reports.

“I’ve been trying really hard to find balance outside of work,” Witherspoon said at her company Hello Sunshine’s Shine Away event in Los Angeles yesterday. “I’m a person who fills my schedule with busyness so that I feel less alone or less nervous or less unsettled.”

Witherspoon—who settled her divorce from Jim Toth in August after announcing their split in March—said that, while her work has always been a major part of her life, “I started to realize that isn’t going to work for me,” she said. “About a year ago, I was like, ‘I was a robot, and the robot broke.’ I cried and cried.”

Witherspoon said she texted her friend, Tracee Ellis Ross, to help process it all: “It actually makes me feel very vulnerable sharing that with y’all, but I think it’s important,” Witherspoon said, as she teared up onstage. “We hold up so much for so many. My beautiful friend Cleo Wade just wrote this gorgeous poem…about the glue in people’s lives. And sometimes you are the glue in everybody’s life, whether it’s work or being a mom or being a partner, but who is holding you together, you know? It’s really important to remember.”

Of Wade’s poem, Witherspoon said she “burst into tears” upon reading it “because I didn’t feel like I was taking very good care of myself, and I wasn’t asking other people for help.”

Witherspoon’s plate is enormously full: in addition to being a mother of three, she is an actress, a producer, a philanthropist, and the founder of media company Hello Sunshine, her clothing line, Draper James, and Reese’s Book Club. Now, she said, she wants to share her lessons learned so that hopefully the path will be easier for others that can learn from her struggles. “I feel like I’ve learned a lot,” she said. “Because I did the work—the hard work—in my early twenties and reading every book and every self-help book and going to therapy and really trying to understand myself and forgive the parts of myself that were broken and the parts of myself where I felt like a failure, because it was a huge part of it.”

She added “Instead of thinking of it as a failure, I think, ‘Gosh, I’ve learned so much from that moment.’ And I don’t blame others, I just reward myself for the hard things that little Reese went through.”

Ava Phillippe—daughter of Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe—was in attendance at Stella McCartney’s Paris Fashion Week show today, where she stunned in a flowy white jumpsuit for the British designer’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection.

Phillippe’s look “featured a one-shoulder neckline and stylish scarf detailing which wrapped around her neck and came down to just below her feet,” The Daily Mail reports. “Embroidered with gold detailing, the garment also featured a belt detailing,” clinching at the waist. She added a clutch and snakeskin sandals to complete the look.

Phillippe made her modeling debut in 2018, when she posed for Rodarte’s fall lookbook that year. She has also appeared in Ivy Park’s 2021 holiday campaign, has served as the face of Pat McGrath Labs’ limited edition “Bridgerton” collection, and has worked with brands like Kate Spade New York, H&M, and Aerie.

Phillippe, who just turned 24 last month, was praised by her mother, Witherspoon, who wrote of her only daughter “It’s the joy of my life to watch you grow and become the most inspiring, thoughtful, creative, dynamic, funny woman. I have learned so much from being your mom. How lucky is that ??!! I love you to the stars and back!”

In addition to Phillippe, Maude Apatow, Phoebe Gates, and Paris Jackson also attended the Stella McCartney show.

After the megahit Legally Blonde came out in 2001, we only had to wait two years for its sequel, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, in 2003. But it has been a full 20 years since the second iteration of Elle Woods, and fans are clamoring for Legally Blonde 3, which has been speculated about for years.

The film’s writer, Mindy Kaling, has given us the update we’ve been waiting for, per Entertainment Tonight: in an appearance on the podcast “Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi” (editor’s note: love this show) Kaling explained that, though multiple versions of the script have been written, the industry is currently at a standstill because of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, which is preventing the project from moving forward.

“Obviously, now we sort of have pencils down because of the writers’ strike, but it’s had a couple of iterations over the past couple of years,” Kaling said. “And I think it’s a challenging project because of what makes it so great. Elle Woods is like Reese [Witherspoon]’s Avengers character, and people feel so passionately about this.”

Kaling is not wrong when she points out that part of the challenge in writing the third movie is recognizing how much has changed culture-wise since the early aughts: “I’m just someone who’s coming in to co-write the third movie, and even I see how excited people are,” Kaling said. “And what is Elle Woods doing in 2023 or 2024 when culture has changed so much since then? And so that’s tricky as a writer—writing something that is incredibly funny and is a great role for Reese but is saying something about feminism now.” Kaling told Entertainment Tonight that the project may be going “a little more slowly than we like but [it’s] just because we really want it to be good,” she said.

Witherspoon’s career was hot in 2001 and 2003 but is even more so now, and Kaling told Bozzi on “Table for Two” that her packed schedule is allowing writers more time to fine tune Legally Blonde 3 until they feel it’s to the standard they want it to be. “[Reese is] shooting shows and movies and everything else, so there isn’t this sense from her that she’s in any desperation or anxiety about getting back into the role,” Kaling said. “She loves the character and wants to do it if it’s exactly right…So it’s been taking some time.”

Witherspoon has said that the new iteration will be heavily focused on not just her character Elle Woods but Jennifer Coolidge’s Paulette Bonafonté, and that there is no Legally Blonde 3 without Coolidge on board. “I’m beyond myself about Jennifer Coolidge,” Witherspoon told Entertainment Tonight. “She deserves every one of those flowers she is receiving right now. And she’s just one of those people who is so naturally gifted and funny and that you can just tell people love her, ‘cause she gets up there and everybody’s like, ‘I love her,’ but she’s just done a lot of good work in our business for so long that it’s really nice to see her getting this incredible moment.”

Coolidge previously told Entertainment Tonight that she hadn’t yet gotten a call about Legally Blonde 3 but would be more than happy to join the cast: “I know nothing,” she said at the time. “I mean, I don’t know if they wanted to surprise me or something, ‘cause I hear about it a lot. I heard that Mindy has this amazing version of our next round, but I haven’t seen it. I don’t have the call yet.” 

Kaling, for her part, said that Paulette is already written into the script, and that Coolidge will “1,000 percent” return for the new installment. “[She] is just someone who all writers would kill to write for,” Kaling said. “She is so funny. She elevates any material, and she is just, like…she can just do a glance, it is just hilarious. And so, as a writer, it’s the jackpot. Especially in that character, her character Paulette, is so funny and their dynamic is so funny. It’s been really great. She [has] a very juicy story in this one. That’s all I can say and, by the way, Elle has a very juicy story. The two of them, seeing what they look like now after 20 years, is really fun.”

We can’t wait!

No doubt about it, Reese Witherspoon is rich—but she’s not a billionaire (yet, anyway). Per People, “the actress addressed speculation about her finances during an appearance at the INBOUND conference in Boston on Friday,” where she addressed reports that she is a billionaire are wrong. After NBC News Daily anchor Zinhle Essamuah asked her if the rumors were true, Witherspoon said. “That’s enormously flattering, and if I ever touched the bottom of what Oprah’s magic golden boots do, I would be so lucky,” she said.

On Wednesday, news broke that Consortium Brand Partners had acquired a 70 percent ownership stake in Witherspoon’s fashion and lifestyle brand, Draper James, according to Forbes, which also named her the “wealthiest self-made female actor in the world.” In the wake of the sale, speculation mounted that Witherspoon was at or close to joining the billionaire's club, citing especially the 2021 sale of her production company, Hello Sunshine, for $900 million.

Witherspoon opened up a wide range of topics, including rejection: “I think I started so young, and rejection was such an early piece of my life that I learned a long time ago that other people’s opinions of me are none of my business,” she said. “I really don’t care what anybody thinks. I’m gonna do my work anyway. I’m gonna date whoever I want, go hang out with a friend nobody likes. When you release that feeling of other people’s opinions crushing you or holding you down, you’re free. You’re totally free.”

And speaking of friendships, Witherspoon shared her secret to cultivating a strong friend group. “Everybody out there over 40 knows,” she said. “If you aren’t adding to my life, get the heck outta my life.” She advised the audience to “edit your friendships,” adding “my grandma used to say people are radiators or drains. Stick with radiators.”

Witherspoon opened up about the death of female-driven projects in Hollywood, which led her to “put my money where my mouth is” and “actually walk the walk” to launch Hello Sunshine, which, since its 2016 formation, has produced projects like Daisy Jones & The Six, Truth Be Told, and The Morning Show (in which Witherspoon also stars, and the new season of which premieres on Wednesday). 

“I was told not to put my own money in it several times by many, many advisors,” Witherspoon said. “I saw people who were taking money from studios, and I saw how watered down the product was. I saw that they were sitting on material that never got made. And I thought if you were to function and do something differently, you have to think about it differently. And you have to capitalize it differently. So probably about a year and we had two of these three Oscar nominations, we had a television show that got done. And I couldn’t keep the lights on.”

She then turned to her now ex-husband, Jim Toth, to help refine her approach. “I approached my husband at the time and a business partner who retooled the business plan,” Witherspoon said. “And so we went ahead to raise capital, which was a whole lot of asking people for money. It was terrifying. Every day I would wake up and I would do something to further my dream.”

We bet joining that elusive billionaire’s club is something that, if Witherspoon wants it, she’ll get.

They’re not just a mother/daughter duo, but twins: Mom Reese Witherspoon and daughter Ava Phillippe (Witherspoon’s only daughter, and one of her two children with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe) had a night out together, attending an event on Saturday wearing similar outfits, per Access. “Leading up to the event, the Oscar winner shared a snap of her and Ava in matching white robes,” the outlet reports. “In the pic, the two show off their blonde locks as they smile for the camera.” For the event, Witherspoon wore a mint green strapless dress, and Phillippe rocked a long white strapless jumpsuit.

The duo attended Oceana’s 16th Annual SeaChange Summer Party, per People, and Witherspoon shared a pre-event selfie of the two of them “soft-smiling in full glam and hotel robes,” the outlet reports. Witherspoon “also shared a photo of some of the beauty products and accessories she used to get glam for her evening out, including a Vitamin C facial oil, tortoiseshell sunnies, and intricate pearl hoop earrings with gold details.” Page Six reports that the two women's looks were from Proenza Schouler (and the bathrobes were from the Waldorf Astoria).

“Perfect Summer night with my girl @avaphillippe,” Witherspoon wrote, adding that they spent the evening “learning all about @oceana incredible conservation work.” For a snap of the pair’s final looks, “the mother-daughter duo looked practically identical as they smiled and posed together, hands-on-hip, in front of a faux grass wall,” People reports. Witherspoon captioned the photo “The perfect duo.” 

Though the two are clearly doppelgangers, Witherspoon has said in the past that she and Phillippe don’t see it. On an appearance at Today with Hoda & Jenna in October, host Jenna Bush Hager exclaimed “Wait, y’all are twins!”

“She and I don’t see it that much,” Witherspoon said.

Although she doesn’t see the resemblance, Witherspoon has joked in the past that being mistaken for her daughter makes her “feel so young.”

“I’m so proud of her,” Witherspoon said of Phillippe in a 2021 InStyle cover story. “She really rolls with it. I’m sure it’s not easy looking exactly like your mother.” (For what it's worth, while we definitely see Witherspoon, we see Ryan Phillippe in there, too.)

Witherspoon honored Phillippe for her birthday last September with a gushing Instagram post, with the proud mom writing “Happy Birthday to my favorite daughter, Ava !! Every day that I get to watch you become the most amazing woman is such a gift. Your gigantic heart, generous spirit, and endless creativity inspire me every day. I love you so much.”

Reese Witherspoon and her husband of 11 years Jim Toth announced they were divorcing earlier this year, via a joint statement on social media.

Since then, the two have stayed very discreet about the aftermath of their separation, preferring to guard theirs and their family's privacy.

But in a recent interview with Harper's Bazaar, Witherspoon opened up about the decision to announce her divorce publicly, and about how she's been caring for herself during this difficult time.

"It’s interesting what happened to me," she said.

"When I was divorced before, the tabloid media got to tell people how I was feeling or how I was processing, and it felt very out of control.

"To be able to talk to people directly about what’s going on in my life and just share it in the way that I share great professional experiences or personal experiences, it feels much more authentic to be able to say things in my own voice and not let somebody else control what’s happening.

"Then, of course, there’s speculation, but I can’t control that. All I can do is be my most honest, forthright self and be vulnerable. It’s a vulnerable time for me."

The actress was previously married to Ryan Phillippe from 1999 to 2008.

While of course divorce is a difficult thing to go through, Witherspoon explained that she feels less alone now than ever.

"I think about how many other people are going through this experience," she said. "I don’t feel isolated at all. I feel very connected."

Back in April, there were reports that Witherspoon was not looking to date anytime soon. A source told People at the time, "Dating isn’t really on her mind right now. She will have friends set her up when she is ready."

Right now, she's leaning into self-care instead, immersing herself in paint-by-numbers projects among other things, and obviously keeping as busy as ever with her thriving career. Not to alarm you, but she currently has 12 upcoming production credits, and six upcoming acting credits, so yeah, she's not bored.

Reese Witherspoon, as ever, has a lot on her to do list—but dating isn’t one of them.

According to a source speaking to People, Witherspoon “is single” and not looking to change that anytime soon.

“Dating isn’t really on her mind right now,” the insider says. “She will have friends set her up when she is ready.”

Witherspoon filed for divorce from her husband of 11 years, Jim Toth, on April 1 at the Circuit Court of Davidson County, Tennessee, listing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason. The April 1 filing came just days after the couple jointly announced their split on March 24—just two days after Witherspoon’s forty-seventh birthday and two days before what would have been she and Toth’s 12-year wedding anniversary.

“We have some personal news to share…” the divorce announcement began. “It is with a great deal of care and consideration that we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We have enjoyed so many wonderful years together and are moving forward with deep love, kindness and mutual respect for everything we have created together. Our biggest priority is our son and our entire family as we navigate this next chapter. These matters are never easy and are extremely personal. We truly appreciate everyone’s respect for our family’s privacy at this time.”

Witherspoon and Toth, a talent agent at CAA, share a 10-year-old son, Tennessee. Witherspoon also has two older children, Ava and Deacon, from her first marriage to actor Ryan Phillippe.

“The divorce decision was not an easy one for her,” a source tells People. “It was rough to reach the decision and to announce it. Reese is doing much better now, though. She has no regrets and is just focused on her kids and work. She has a big group of loyal friends that she leans on. There is no drama with Jim. They co-parent, and this is the focus.”

Another source told the outlet that Witherspoon “has a lot of support” from friends and that she “is positive about her future.”

“Reese is moving on,” the insider says. “There is no drama, and she’s just focused on her son. She and Jim share custody. They want things to be as smooth as possible for Tennessee.”

Last Thursday, Witherspoon stepped out for her first public appearance since the divorce announcement at the premiere of Apple TV+’s The Last Thing He Told Me. 

Jennifer Coolidge was iconic as the nail tech Paulette in Legally Blonde 1 and 2.

So with mounting interest for a third installment of the cult series, of course people are wondering if the White Lotus actress would participate.

Coolidge was recently named Woman of the Year by Harvard University’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals, and spoke to Extra about what this meant to her.

"Everyone loved you in Legally Blonde, and Reese Witherspoon has said there is no Legally Blonde 3 without Jennifer Coolidge. What do you say to that? If you get asked, would you be on board?" the interviewer asked her.

"Of course I would be on board," Coolidge replied. "I have to say, I've been hearing about it for a long time. Maybe it really is happening at this point, and I would love to do it. I would absolutely love to do Legally Blonde 3."

A source recently told Us Weekly that this project really might be happening.

“Reese [Witherspoon] adores her," the insider said. "They’re determined to get Legally Blonde 3 off the ground and they see each other plenty and have become good friends. [Coolidge is] very much at peace and so excited about this next chapter."

Speaking about why this particular Woman of the Year award was significant for her, Coolidge explained candidly, "I was a hostess at a restaurant here in Cambridge for a long time when I was in my teens.

"I was like 18 or whatever, and you know, to be sort of walking by all these great Harvard buildings and knowing that my dad went here... you know, there were some times when I felt like, you know, it wasn't going to go very well.

"I don't know, it just has this whole thing of, like, my feelings as a young person, being extremely hopeful and having giant dreams, and then, you know, having very, very low moments too. And then to be here tonight and, I don't know, it was all worth it. It was all worth it."

Ugh, she deserves all the happiness.

You know how Reese Witherspoon and daughter Ava Phillippe look scarily alike?

Well, let me introduce you to mother-daughter duo Miley and Tish Cyrus. The latter posted a picture of her and her famous daughter (well, one of them) on Instagram, and I'm not kidding, I fully thought Miley was Tish and Tish was Miley. That's how similar they look.

Granted, the two women were also dressed the same, which didn't help with the whole telling them apart thing.

They twinned in a white crop tee, dark pants, designer shoes, the same aviators, and the same half-up half-down hairstyle. The only difference was that Miley (I've checked, it's Miley), wore a Barbie pink jacket with a Chanel embellishment, and Tish wore a swimming-pool blue (technical term) jacket with a Chanel embellishment.

One fan was quick to point out that the two were eerily reminiscent of a certain late '90s cult classic movie. "Romy & Michele who?" they asked, to which Tish responded, "I was truly thinking the exact same thing"

Tish shares children Miley, Brandi, Noah, Braison and Trace with ex-husband Billy Ray Cyrus, the successful country artist and fictional father of real-life daughter Miley on Hannah Montana.

Tish regularly accompanies Miley to various show-biz events, and they seem really close—emotionally as well as in looks, I guess.

As for Miley, her latest piece of news is a fun one: She and her godmother Dolly Parton will be hosting Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party together on NBC this year, as reported by Deadline.

Last year, Miley co-hosted with Pete Davidson, comedian and famed Don Juan.

Reese Witherspoon and her daughter Ava Phillippe, 22, look so alike it's almost magic.

The Legally Blonde actress took to Instagram to share yet another pic of her and her daughter looking the spitting image of each other, which seems to have been taken on vacation, with a sunset over a tropical beach in the background.

In it, Witherspoon is wearing a white lacy dress and Phillippe is wearing a dark green strappy dress. they are both beaming at the camera and looking generally like the exact same person.

In a second photo, the daughter is seen flicking a trace of makeup off her mom's cheek, which is very sweet.

Witherspoon captioned the pics, "Love sharing sunsets with my girl ... *esp when she fixes my makeup"

Her famous friends rallied to compliment the two women on the gorgeous photos. Octavia Spencer wrote, "Twinning! #gorgeous." Selma Blair (also of Legally Blonde fame!!!) commented, "we all need a gorgeous twin daughter who fixes our makeup." Phillippe's namesake Ava DuVernay wrote, "Summer beauties. We love it."

It's far from the first time comparisons have been drawn between the mother and daughter. When they stepped out in a pair of black dresses in 2017, people were stunned by how alike they looked.

Since then, both women have regularly—and very kindly—shared all manner of family pics with us that have further cemented their twinning looks.

Jennifer Aniston is the first to admit that she has a bit of a love affair with wellness, so it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that her The Morning Show co-star Reese Witherspoon hits her up for advice. “Reese definitely loves to sit down with me and ask about different wellness [trends], because I’m obsessed with wellness, obviously,” the Friends alum exclusively tells Marie Claire. “I’m always keen on what the new this is or the new that is, so I find Reese always saddling up to me saying, ‘What the next thing? What’s the newest thing? What are we doing?’” 

While Aniston could easily go off about her ingenious technique for getting a health fix in her morning coffee (more on that later) or lay out her daily workout routine, she tells the Big Little Lies star, who is the “most hardworking young lady,” to simply take a beat. “I always say to her, ‘You work too hard, you need to slow down.’ And she’s like, ‘I know I do. What do I need to do to better myself?’ I say, ‘First of all, you need to slow down!’” 

It’s advice that Aniston also practices in her daily life. In the last three years, she’s made sure to carve out a little more me-time. “Meditation is majorly important, moving my body, drinking water, and getting sleep—those are the basics,” the Just Go With It star says. “And obviously being mindful of what you put in your body.” 

The latter starts bright and early. She puts a healthy spin on her coffee. She mixes her morning cup with a splash of low-fat milk (sometimes almond milk, she’s working on it), Stevia, cinnamon, which is a great antioxidant, and of course Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides. “Then I blend it. I get my milk hot and then I have one of those little blenders and get it all frothy. With cinnamon, it just tastes completely different. It’s super yummy.” 

As for the rest of her day? She strives for a well-balanced diet (read: healthy fats, leafy greens, lean proteins) and adds in a little sweet fix with her just-launched Vital Proteins Bars, which she created with the brand. While she’s currently obsessing over the Cold Brew Coffee flavor, she loves the Dark Chocolate Coconut and Peanut Butter Fudge equally as much. “I thought, why not take advantage of getting your collagen powder, but also adding additional nutrients: the lion’s mane, the mushrooms, the matcha powder … We just sort of perfected it and now we’ve got these three great flavors.”

Like many young, bright-eyed, bushy-tailed fashionistas, Kathryn Sukey had always dreamt of working in New York City's illustrious fashion industry. At just 8 years old, she was already sewing and refashioning vintage pieces to make them her own. So, it was only fitting that Sukey would later find her place in fashion design, eventually leading the charge as the head accessories designer for brands including Coach and Kate Spade.

When actress and entrepreneur Reese Witherspoon called from Tennessee, Sukey had a gut feeling that her years of fashion expertise would be the perfect match for Witherspoon's blossoming Draper James label. Her Morning Routine:

I rarely start work first thing. Mornings are really the time for me to focus on an easy start to the day. My two kids, ages 10 and 11, are pretty self-sufficient, but they still need the 6:45 a.m. mommy and daddy wake up call. I'm making the coffee; I'm getting the breakfast out. Once the kids are off to school, I'll look at my calendar so that I can make sure that what I was planning on wearing still fits the bill.

Her Getting Dressed Process:

I love to get dressed. I look forward to it the way that people look forward to their coffee in the mornings. I'm always wearing something absolutely in season, and I do really wear Draper James all of the time–it's super high-functioning. Reese and I are of the camera-on Zoom culture, so I'm always dressing with that in mind. I love to mix Draper pieces with my existing wardrobe. I'll wear one of our feminine smocked tops with a leather pant to make it a little bit more "me."

Her Approach to Powerful Dressing:

Feeling feminine makes me feel the most powerful. For me, that's definitely a dress that compliments my figure. It has to be comfortable because I walk everywhere in the city. I also like a bit of drama—something that moves when I'm walking.

Her Feel Good Pieces:

Before I joined Draper James, I sort of shied away from prints. I'm a size eight or 10, and sometimes prints feel like they're wearing you and not the other way around. When I joined Draper, I found that their prints are so universal and easy to wear. I've also adopted an optimistic point of view through dressing with color. I'm all about the pieces that feel good to wear and you feel good wearing them.

The actress took to Instagram to bring back her legendary pink bunny costume from Legally Blonde and ugh, I'm guessing I can't get my hands on one of these in the next few hours?

As a refresher, Witherspoon's character Elle Woods wore the skimpy costume to a party hosted by the initially evil Vivian Kensington—who told Elle it was a costume party when it wasn't, in a bid to humiliate her. Understanding what had happened, Elle puffed up her chest and walked confidently up to Vivian and her acolytes, telling them, "Thanks for inviting me, girls! The party is super fun." I-co-nic.

Real-life Vivian, Selma Blair, commented on Witherspoon's post, "The cutest bunny." Love it, love it.

Witherspoon posted the bunny costume as part of a carousel chock-full of costume ideas from Halloweens past, including a giant banana, a zombie bride, and something involving bear claws and Reese's peanut butter cups—it's probably an incredible pun (?) but I haven't quite figured it out. Much ink has been spilled about how alike Reese Witherspoon and her daughter Ava Phillippe look, but Ava's brother Deacon also bears a striking resemblance to the two women.

In a new Instagram photo, Witherspoon posed with her two kids from her marriage with Ryan Phillippe (she also has a son with husband Jim Toth), showing off their very similar features. In the pic, Ava and Deacon are dressed casually, while their mom wears a black blouse with puffy sleeves and gold jewelry. She captioned the sweet photo, "Gosh, I’m lucky to be their mom." Aww.

As much as Witherspoon loves being the young Phillippes' mom, she also recently posted an Instagram video that made her look pretty enthusiastic about having them out of her hair for a while. Witherspoon also shared some vacation pics taken with Ava and Deacon over the last few weeks, proving that, all kidding aside, they all totally cherish their family time together.

Meanwhile over on her own Instagram, Ava Philippe posted a fun pic of herself posing in a green fishnet top against a sparkly backdrop, with the caption, "@jadensanders_ needs to stop hyping me up !!"

Reese Witherspoon generously gave us a glimpse into life with two of her kids, Ava and Deacon, whom she shares with ex-husband Ryan Philippe. The actress posted a sweet family photo on Instagram, where she's aiming a giant, open-mouthed grin at the camera and wrapping one arm each around her children.

To her left is 21-year-old Ava, famous for being her mom's carbon copy, who is jumping for joy, one foot and two arms lifted in the air. To her right is 17-year-old Deacon, who is trying to stand straight and failing slightly thanks to his mom and sister's antics—but he is smiling wide nonetheless.

"Turns out… goofy is genetic!" Witherspoon captioned the photo, which appears to have been taken on vacation, with the ocean and palm trees on full display in the background.

The photo is probably from a few weeks ago, as Witherspoon posted a selfie with Ava on July 22 that looks like it was taken the same day. This one simply read, "My girl" followed by a red heart emoji. Still, I take no issue with a good #latergram.

The kids' dad also recently shared vacation pics with Deacon, taken during a trip to New Mexico.
