Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes have always been fiercely protective about their relationship, so it's more than a little exciting when they open up about their home life.

On Monday, Nov. 25, Mendes shared a new video on Instagram, in which she introduced the "newest member" of her family with Gosling.

"Meet the newest member of our family," Mendes captioned her post. She revealed that the family's new dog was called Magic, and that she was adopted "from this amazing organization [California Doodle Rescues]." Mendes promised to share even more footage of the sweet dog in the future, writing, "I'm crazy about her and excited to share life with Magic with you."

In a candid interview with People, in honor of her 50th birthday, Mendes shared that she never expected to have a family. Gosling and Mendes share two daughters—Esmeralda Amada, 10, and Amada Lee, 8.

"I don't succumb to societal pressure," the Hitch star told People. "Whatever I want to do, I do." She continued, "I certainly didn't think I'd have kids and be locked down. So I'm really happy that a certain man came into my life and made me change my mind about all that stuff."

It would seem that Gosling is every bit as enamored with Mendes, whom he paid tribute to at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival earlier this year. While receiving the Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film, the Barbie actor said, "Most important, I got to meet the girl of my dreams, Eva Mendes, and have two dream children." He continued, "I dreamed of one day making movies, and now, movies have made my life a dream." Gosling and Mendes, of course, met on the set of The Place Beyond the Pines in 2011.

In an interview with Men’s Health earlier this year, Gosling revealed that he puts Mendes and their family first in everything he does. "It puts things into perspective," he explained. "It always comes back to family first. I don't think I'll regret anything professionally, but I do think when it comes to Eva and the girls, they come first."

Eva Mendes has opened up about how her husband Ryan Gosling helps her feel really good about herself.

"I feel really f***ing sexy at times," Mendes told The Times in a recent interview. "The way my man looks at me is just … at times I’m like, oh my God. That might not sit well with people, but so much of how I feel is a reflection of what he’s giving me."

She added, "There’s so many things that can make me feel sexy and I’d say that I feel more sexy than not. I guess because I’ve never considered myself beautiful, but I’ve always felt very sexy."

Mendes spoke to The Times after becoming the face of a new Stella McCartney campaign.

Since welcoming daughters Esmeralda, 10, and Amada, 8, Mendes has largely retired from acting (something she alluded to while sharing her Stella McCartney campaign, thanking the designer for "getting me out of hiding").

Now an entrepreneur, children's book author, and occasional model, Mendes told The Times that she doesn't regret quitting Hollywood. "I was never in love with acting," she admitted. "I don’t mean this in a self-deprecating way, but I wasn’t a great actress. I had my moments when I worked with really great people."

It's not just in how sexy she feels that Gosling brings out the best in her: Mendes also shared that she's proudest of the two movies she starred in with her husband. "He gets something out of me that’s never been accessible before," she said.

The support goes both ways: Though Mendes rarely steps out in public with Gosling, she's liberal with her praise for him on social media. And the actor, as for him, once did a press tour while wearing a T-shirt promoting his wife's book Desi, Mami, and the Never-Ending Worries. That's love right there!

Glen Powell is not here for your praise if it's at the expense of someone else. Case in point: after an anonymous producer suggested Powell had wider box office appeal than Ryan Gosling, the Hit Man star took to X to voice his response.

Earlier this week, an "unnamed producer" spoke to The Wrap about Powell's career trajectory, saying, "Unlike an actor like Ryan Gosling, whose appeal is mostly limited to female audiences, Glen appeals to both females and males." Powell was also referred to as the "biggest up-and-coming movie star," thanks to his breakout performances in hits like romantic comedy Anyone But You and summer blockbuster Twisters.

Having read the article, Powell clapped back at the suggestion he was somehow more appealing than the Barbie star. "Gosling is a legend," Powell wrote on X. "I’m just Glen." Unsurprisingly, his pitch perfect response, which references Gosling's famous performance of the song "I'm Just Ken," garnered Powell a ton more fans.

Praising Powell's response, one fan commented on X, "humble considerate King, this is why you’ll always be famous." Meanwhile, another commenter noted, "I'm not sure who wrote this article but they're wrong. We love both of them. And they should be in a buddy cop movie together."

While Powell's star has been on the rise since he appeared in Top Gun: Maverick, the actor has been working steadily since he was just a kid. In a 2024 GQ profile of Powell, Hit Man director Richard Linklater said of the actor, "He’s a really positive guy." He continued, "He doesn’t hold grudges, or feel like the world’s against him. He’s just like, 'OK, that didn’t work out. But, next time!'"

During the same profile, Powell revealed that Matthew McConaughey advised him to move back home to Texas. "He said: 'Hollywood is the Matrix,'" Powell explained. "When you go to Hollywood, you plug into the Matrix, you shake hands, you kiss the babies, you go in the rooms. People can knock you down, they can hurt you, but it’s not real. Then you go back to Austin, you unplug, you’re with your family and friends. That’s where life matters.'"

As for Powell and Gosling: we'll take them both, thanks.

Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling are engaged in the most adorable ping pong match of supportive partnership, volleying praise back and forth to one another over and over again. As both pursue their respective career endeavors—Gosling in film and Mendes with her forthcoming children’s book Desi, Mami, and the Never-Ending Worries—both are endlessly there for one another, lifting one another up professionally, clearly the other’s No. 1 fan.

After Gosling’s support in the form of a t-shirt bearing the name of Mendes’ children’s book while on a press tour for his latest movie, it’s Mendes’ turn to shout out her man. And she did so on Instagram, even joking why she found it okay for her partner of 12 years to kiss his co-star Emily Blunt in their new film, The Fall Guy. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Mendes shared a poster for the movie—which features Gosling and Blunt kissing—as well as some fans’ tweets about the action movie that also doubles as a romantic comedy.

“Did you know?! @thefallguymovie is the FIRST non super hero movie to open the summer box office in 17 years!” Mendes wrote. “And maybe it didn’t break the box office but it broke sooo many other records. I’m extra proud of this one.”

Mendes then went on to explain why she was okay with Gosling kissing Blunt—his onscreen love interest—in the movie: “The proof is in my post-I don’t usually post pics of my man kissing a babe but Emily Blunt is just that damn good in it. THEY’RE that damn good in it. Viva el fall guy!”

The film netted $28.5 million at the box office and kicked off the summer movie season at No. 1, The Hollywood Reporter writes. And while Mendes clearly has high praise for Blunt, it seems to be a mutual admiration society, as Blunt said on The Howard Stern Show that she not only appreciated the chance to work with Gosling himself, but “I love his wife, Eva,” Blunt said. “I love their children, and I feel like I’m very lucky to be friends with a gem of a person like him.”

If you’ve noticed that Ryan Gosling’s filmography lately has included lighter fare—think La La Land, Barbie, and his latest, The Fall Guy—there’s a reason. Gosling opened up about the fact that, though he has given a wide range of performances throughout his career, he has avoided darker roles as of late for the sake of his family, E! News reports. 

“I don’t really take roles that are going to put me in some kind of dark place,” he told WSJ. Magazine. “This moment is what I feel like trying to read the room at home and feel like what is going to be best for all of us. The decisions I make, I make them with Eva, and we make them with our family in mind first.” (Gosling’s longtime partner is Eva Mendes, and they share two daughters, nine-year-old Esmeralda and eight-year-old Amada.)

Gosling and Mendes met on the set of The Place Beyond the Pines—one of his more dark roles—back in 2011, and though Gosling has many credits that are dramas, he’s won over audiences in rom-coms (a la Crazy, Stupid, Love) and has been nominated for an Academy Award for the comedy Barbie and the musical La La Land. 

“I think La La Land was the first,” he said of his shift to lighter content. “It was just sort of like, ‘Oh, this will be fun for them, too, because even though they’re not coming to set, we’re practicing piano every day or we’re dancing or we’re singing.’ Their interest in Barbie and their disinterest in Ken was an inspiration. I thought, they were already making little movies about their Barbies on the iPad when it happened, so the fact that I was going off to work to make one too—we just felt like we were aligned.”

Mendes herself opened up recently about the unspoken agreement that she and Gosling shared surrounding her decision to pause acting to raise their daughters. “It was like a no-brainer,” Mendes said. “[And I was like] I’m so lucky if I could have this time with my children.” Mendes emphasized that she still works—for example, she has a children’s book coming out this September—but prefers not to act right now as “acting takes you on location,” she said. “It takes you away.” 

Though Gosling may continue to act, there’s no role he values more than Papi to his two daughters. “It kills me every time,” he said of his children’s moniker for him. “There’s just nothing, nothing better than that.”

Emily Blunt, Ryan Gosling, and Hannah Waddingham all looked insanely good at The Fall Guy premiere in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

All three stars of the movie opted for a solid-color outfit, and all three stunned—separately and together.

Blunt showed up in a sequined, orange, one-shoulder, cutout gown paired with woven metallic heeled sandals, bold gold bangles, and a matching ring. She wore her shoulder-length blonde hair down and waved, and went for a minimal makeup look.

Gosling, as for him, wore a beautifully tailored mint green suit paired with a matching button-up shirt, worn slightly open, and white brogues. I believe this is the same suit he wore to the 2022 premiere of The Gray Man, a Gucci number.

Last but not least, Waddingham—a good friend of Prince William's—channeled Princess Kate in a sky blue tailored pantsuit with a double breasted blazer and flared pants by Alex Perry, as reported by @WeltonWears on Twitter.

The Ted Lasso star paired the suit with matching pointed-toe Louboutins and Shaun Leane hook earrings.

The Fall Guy comes out in theaters nationwide on Friday, May 3. It tells the story of a stunt man (Gosling) who is sent out to find the star of a movie, who has disappeared. It looks delightfully fun and silly.

As Ryan Gosling promoted his 2023 film Barbie and received accolades and acknowledgement for his performance as Ken, his partner Eva Mendes was endlessly supportive—and now Gosling is returning the favor, in a subtle yet #IYKYK manner.

While on the press tour in the U.K. for his new film, The Fall Guy—which he stars in alongside Emily Blunt, and which hits theaters Friday—Gosling wore a t-shirt with a message on it that might have seemed confusing to some at first. What is Desi, Mami and the Never-Ending Worries, anyway?  

Well, it turns out that, for those that didn’t yet know, that’s the name of Mendes’ forthcoming children’s book, which hits shelves on September 17 (and is available in both English and Spanish, by the way). Gosling wore the t-shirt yesterday during an interview with Hits Radio, People reports, and of her upcoming book, Mendes told the outlet that “Desi, Mami and the Never-Ending Worries is a love letter to my kids and yours.”

Gosling and Mendes have been together since 2011 and share two daughters, nine-year-old Esmeralda and eight-year-old Amada.

“Learning how to train our brain to work for us and not against us is easier said than done,” Mendes continued. “At my home and in Desi’s, we try to deal with the never-ending worries and anxieties that we all have, so those negative thoughts don’t take over and dominate.”

Mendes turned 50 last month, and, on the precipice of her children’s book launch, seems happier than ever. In addition to helping promote Mendes’ book, Gosling “made her birthday very special,” a source speaking to People said, adding “She seemed very comfortable turning 50. Ryan constantly tells her she’s beautiful.”

They continued that “Eva and Ryan are truly such a happy couple. They’re very supportive of each other’s passions. They’re also grateful for the financial freedom their work gives them, and they’re all about family time. They’re great at balancing everything.”

Let’s pause for a moment and let Mendes keep it real, in a recent interview with Glamour: “I don’t have it figured out,” she said. “I don’t have balance. I have no idea what the word ‘balance’ means. I feel like, and this is a very honest answer, every time I feel like I’m succeeding in one area or excelling, I feel like I’m lacking in the other, whatever that may be. I don’t know how to balance, and I don’t know if there is such a thing as balance for me. I think maybe I’ll have to be okay just kind of being imbalanced for a while. Maybe that part of it is figuring that out.” (Never loved you more, Eva.) 

Mendes opened up recently about how it was a “no-brainer” to give up acting in favor of raising her daughters. “It truly seems they are surviving Hollywood as a couple because of the way they’ve handled being famous,” a source said to People. “They try their best to stay out of the spotlight. For them, the most important job is their girls. Everything else comes second.”

Of Desi, Mami and the Never-Ending Worries, “I didn’t want to be another celebrity with the kid’s book,” Mendes told Glamour. “There’s enough out there, amazing books by celebrities, so I was like, ‘We don’t need a book from me.’ But then I thought, ‘Wait a minute; I actually have something to share because I have these nighttime struggles with my kids. They have these worries, and we go through it together.' I wanted to share my story as a mom when it comes to nighttime and sleep and those worries that we have during the day that the kids have that are amplified at nighttime. And I just thought, ‘If I’m going through this, definitely there are other moms going through this.’ So I wanted to share my story.”

Despite his many on-screen successes and Ken-worthy accolades, actor Ryan Gosling is continuing to focus on what matters most.

In an interview for a recent Men’s Health cover story, the Barbie star was asked if he has a "motto" or "north star" that helps guide him when making decisions.

In response, Gosling revealed that while he doesn't live his life by any "motto," he considers his wife, Eva Mendes, and their two daughters to be something of a guiding light when he is faced with a difficult or perplexing choice.

“It puts things into perspective,” the actor told the publication. “It always comes back to family first. I don’t think I’ll regret anything professionally, but I do think when it comes to Eva and the girls, they come first.”

“I don’t know, it’s probably not a good thing that I go deathbed, but it’s helpful for me," he continued. "Anytime I’m struggling, I just think about whether it’s going to matter to me then because, yeah, this whole thing can be distorting.”

Gosling went on to call his wife his hero, along with his uncle, Bill, who the actor said always believed in him when he was younger.

Gosling and Mendes first met on the set of the film The Place Between the Pines in 2011, and have been together ever since. They share two daughters—Esmeralda Amada, 9, and Amada Lee, 7.

In January, while accepting the Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Gosling gave his wife and children their much-deserved flowers during his acceptance speech.

"Most importantly, I got to meet the girl of my dreams, Eva Mendes, and have two dream children," the actor said at the time, and after sharing how his profession as an actor has enabled him to play multiple, diverse and multifaceted roles.

"I dreamed of one day making movies, and now, movies have made my life a dream," he added.

And in 2017, after receiving a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy for his work in La La Land, Gosling once again credited his wife for making his professional pursuits and goals possible.

“While I was singing and dancing and playing piano and having one of the best experiences I’ve ever had on a film, my lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer,” Gosling said at the time.

“If she hadn’t taken all that on so that I could have this experience, it would surely be someone else up here other than me today," he continued. "So, sweetheart, thank you."

In addition to the now-viral Beavis and Butt-Head sketch that sent Saturday Night Live cast member Heidi Gardner into stitches, host Ryan Gosling played a number of characters other than a Beavis lookalike, including a man who adopts a Cuban accent after marrying a Cuban woman.

This sketch in particular garnered praise from Gosling’s longtime partner Eva Mendes, who gave the skit a stamp of approval: “My Cuban Papi made this Cuban Mami so happy with this,” Mendes—who is of Cuban descent—wrote on Instagram. “Years of hanging out with my Dad paid off.”

The sketch starred Gosling, Marcello Hernandez, and Kenan Thompson; at one point, Thompson said that Gosling’s character “is from Tennessee, but ever since he married a Cuban woman, he different.” Gosling’s response? “A Cuban wife can change you,” explaining that he now speaks “like a Cuban papi” after marrying a Cuban woman.

Mendes also shouted out Hernandez and Thompson, and praised the way Hernandez said “Eva Mendes!” on the show. “Can’t wait for this trio’s next reunion,” Mendes wrote. 

After meeting on the set of the 2012 film The Place Beyond the Pines, the couple have been together for 12 years and are the parents of two daughters. As Gosling closed the show on Saturday night, he mentioned his family, saying “Eva, Ezzy, Ama, I love you!” referring to Mendes and their girls, Esmeralda and Amada.

Taylor Swift has bestowed her invaluable endorsement on Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt's Saturday Night Live interpretation of her song "All Too Well."

Resharing a video of the performance on Twitter, Swift wrote, "All Too Well (Ryan and Emily’s Version) !!! Watch me accidentally catch myself singing this version on tour. This monologue is EVERYTHING," adding heart hands and clapping emojis.

This past Saturday, Blunt made a surprise cameo in Gosling's SNL monologue—an appearance which was especially welcome, since the two are costars on upcoming film The Fall Guy, and also competed in last summer's Barbenheimer battle (she starred in Oppenheimer, he in Barbie).

The Notebook star declared to the audience that he was getting over his "breakup" with the character of Ken the only way he knows how, with a little help from the music of Taylor Swift. He then sat down at the piano as the first notes of "All Too Well" began to play, and sang Ken-related lyrics wistfully.

Gosling floored the audience with the line, "If I said that I was doin' fine, you know I'd be lyin', 'cause I was just Ken, and now I'm just Ryan"—after which Blunt made her entrance saying, "No, no, no, no" and asking, "What are you doing?" before berating Gosling for deviating from their "plan" for promoting The Fall Guy.

When the La La Land actor refused to let it go, Blunt started smashing objects against him to get him to stop. But after a little coaxing about whether she missed Oppenheimer, she joined her costar in reprising "All Too Well."

They capped their brilliant bit with the lines, "We were Kitty and Ken / And I wish you could have seen us / You were loyal to the end / And your guy had no penis."

The performance comes just days after Gosling revealed that he's a huge Swiftie himself, and that his favorite song is—you guessed it—"All Too Well." Full circle moment!

In his upcoming film The Fall Guy, Ryan Gosling’s character Colt Seavers is apparently a fan of Taylor Swift—but, Today reports, Gosling said he’s an even bigger Swiftie in real life.

In one scene from the film, the character of Colt—“a stunt double who finds himself in a messy conspiracy while also trying to win back his ex, director Jody Moreno, played by Emily Blunt,” according to Today—cries alone in a car to the tune of Swift’s song “All Too Well.” 

“Have you been crying to Taylor Swift?” Blunt’s character asks him, to which Gosling replies “Doesn’t everybody?”

In a recent interview, Gosling was asked “Who is the bigger Swiftie, Colt or Ryan Gosling?” to which Gosling replied, in the third person, “Oh, Ryan Gosling,” he said. Blunt chimed in “Oh my God, yeah.” When she was asked the same question—if she is a fan of Swift’s—Blunt replied “Who isn’t?”

The co-stars also dished on their favorite Swift songs. For Gosling, for explainable reasons, “All Too Well” tops the list. The song, he said, “has a real soft spot in my heart.”

As for Blunt, she said “Cruel Summer” is a track that’s “pretty up there for me,” she said.

Gosling and Blunt star in the film alongside Hannah Waddingham and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. The movie “tells the story of Gosling’s Colt, who had left the stuntman business to focus on his health before being called back into service when the star of his ex’s big-budget film goes missing,” Today reports. “The film’s producer, played by Waddingham, tries to keep the disappearance of the movie star [played by Taylor-Johnson] under wraps as Colt performs his stunts while trying to win Jody back.”

But then, “as the mystery around the missing star deepens, Colt will find himself ensnared in a sinister, criminal plot that will push him to the edge of a fall more dangerous than any stunt,” the Universal Pictures website reads (very dramatically, we might add). The Fall Guy hits theaters on May 3, “All Too Well” crying scene included.

When Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling became parents to daughters Esmeralda and Amada, there was an “unspoken agreement” between them that Mendes’ acting career would be put on pause, she said on the Today show—and Mendes has no regrets, even though Gosling’s acting career was to continue. (Obviously, just in case you missed him as Ken this past year.)

“It was like a no-brainer,” Mendes said of becoming a full-time mother to her daughters who are now 7 and 9 years old. “[And I was like] I’m so lucky if I could have this time with my children.” Mendes notes that she still works, but prefers not to act right now as “acting takes you on location,” she said. “It takes you away.” 

Of the decision, “It was almost just like a non-verbal agreement that it was like, ‘Okay, he’s going to work and I’m going to work. I’m just going to work here,’” Mendes said. “He went and did his job. He just happens to be really good at his job. And he did it, and he came home.”

Mendes and Gosling met and fell in love on the set of the 2012 film The Place Beyond the Pines. Of meeting Gosling, Mendes told Today “I have never experienced anything like that. The way he works, his commitment to his craft, how he wants to make everything as best it could be, and that means making his co-stars as best as they could be…But unfortunately, or fortunately,  there is only one Ryan. So I pretty much stopped just acting after that.” 

People reports that Mendes has only had six acting roles since The Place Beyond the Pines came out 12 years ago, and of those, only one film credit—for 2014’s Lost River, which Gosling wrote and directed as his directorial debut. (Their daughters were born in September 2014 and April 2016.)

The girls have watched dad at work, and Esmeralda and Amada gave him some feedback prior to his “I’m Just Ken” performance at the Oscars earlier this month. “It was great,” Gosling told People. “It was so fun because they came to the dress rehearsal the day before and so they were in the front row. They gave me some tips and some notes, all great notes. They are such a huge part of this for me…it was my girls’ interest in Barbie and disinterest in Ken that got me into this in the first place. It was beautiful to have them there at the end.”

Mendes and Gosling moved their family outside of the confines of L.A. to give their kids a quieter childhood, a source told People earlier this month. “For them, the most important job is their girls,” they said. “Everything else comes second. And their girls are thriving. They left L.A. to live a bit further north, away from Hollywood. They didn’t want the girls to grow up around other celebrity kids. Eva and Ryan love their life. It’s admirable how they’ve been able to create balance and boundaries. They care so much about their marriage and just want their girls to live a happy life.”

Another source told People that the famous couple are “hands-on parents and have little help,” and said they “very much enjoy family time” with their daughters.

It's not easy being a Hollywood A-lister and still being an attentive parent, but Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling seem to have it down pat.

Mendes shared a throwback video of herself sporting a Dolce & Gabbana look while in Italy for Milan Fashion Week in February. She tagged her team of makeup artists and stylists in the post, finishing out the thank-you messages with a special note of appreciation for Gosling. The star noted that her Fashion Week trip was made possible "by my man for holding down the fort at home so I could live the Dolce Evita for a couple days."

Mendes' post comes less than a week after her cheeky message following Gosling's "I'm Just Ken" performance at the 2024 Oscars. "You took Ken all the way to the Oscar's, RG. Now come home, we need to put the kids to bed," she wrote in an Instagram post on Sunday, complete with a photo of her wearing a Ken-tastic pink blazer and a cowboy hat. (Mendes didn't walk the red carpet at this year's Oscars with Gosling, as he opted to take his sister as his plus-one to the ceremony.)

As People notes, this was the actress's first time at Milan Fashion Week since before her and Gosling's two daughters were born. So it makes sense that she's still in an Italian state of mind, weeks after her trip. Her caption shows that even when she and Gosling are apart, they're still on the same page.

Award-winning actor Ryan Gosling is opening up about the inspiration behind a key character in one of his upcoming films.

During a Q&A segment following the SXSW premiere of Gosling's new movie, The Fall Guy, the Barbie star revealed that his canine costar and sidekick is actually an homage to his wife Eva Mendes' late dog, Hugo.

“Eva used to have a dog named Hugo who was a Belgian Malinois who was an attack dog," Gosling said, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. "He only spoke French. He’s passed now, so this is my homage to him."

In the film, Gosling's character brings dog Jean Claude with him on an action-packed adventure as they search for a missing movie star (played by Aaron-Taylor Johnson). In the movie, the dog only responds to French commands.

“We wanted to bring this additional character into the mix,” director David Leitch said during the same Q&A segment. “When you are in an action scene you are always trying to give yourself problems to make things fresh. Rain is good. Ice is good. And then adding an animal on set is always great.”

In a previous interview with People, Mendes discussed her late dog, Hugo, telling the outlet at the time that he "was so special."

“I would just talk to him and I would treat him like a person, like, I think, most dog lovers do," she said at the time. "I just have that bond that will be there … He may be gone, but that feeling has never left me. It is one of the most special presences in my life.”

The actress also revealed that her late pup helped prepare her for motherhood.

"The love that you have for your dog, and how you are with your dog, I think, is really similar to how you are with your children," she told People in the same 2018 interview. “I really feel that, and people will probably get really mad with me for feeling that way, (but) it's just so beautiful." 

Gosling and Mendes met while filming the 2012 movie The Place Beyond the Pines and only confirmed they are in fact married fairly recently, in 2022.

The couple share two daughters: Esmeralda, 9, and Amada, 7.

In 2017, Gosling thanked Mendes for making his successful career possible in a moving acceptance speech after winning a Golden Globe for his performance in the hit movie La La Land.

The Barbie actor revealed that his wife Eva Mendes and their daughters, Esmeralda, 9, and Amada, 7, coached him before he took to the stage.

"They gave me some tips and some notes, all great notes," Gosling told People at SXSW on Tuesday. "They are such a huge part of this for me...it was my girls' interest in Barbie and disinterest in Ken that got me into this in the first place. It was beautiful to have them there at the end."

Speaking of his family's support, the actor added, "It was great. It was so fun because they came to the dress rehearsal the day before and so they were in the front row."

Gosling performed the hit song surrounded by Mark Ronson and a bunch of Kens, wearing an incredible blinged-out Barbie pink suit. The performance started with him singing behind Margot Robbie in the audience, then evolved into a full-blown choreographed extravaganza.

The song was nominated for an Oscar (though it lost out to Billie Eilish) and won a Critics' Choice Award earlier this year, but according to Ronson, it almost didn't make it into the movie in the first place.

The music producer explained recently that the movie studio wasn't into "I'm Just Ken" at first. "At that first screening, the song wasn’t working," he said. "I panicked. The humor wasn’t translating, and Greta had to fight. The studio asked her how much she really needed it and she said 'With every inch of my body.' And then there was a big swing."

Phew, that was a close one.

Eva Mendes has had Kenough.

On Sunday, March 10, Oscar-winning actor Ryan Gosling took the 2024 Academy Awards stage to perform "I'm Just Ken" from the history-making Barbie film's soundtrack.

To the surprise of no one who was already privy to Gosling's Oscar-nominated musical prowess and viral dance routines, the actor did not disappoint—his non-stop performance alongside Mark Ronson featured countless dancers who slayed in lock-step during the heavily-choreographed number featuring a reportedly 75 shirtless Kens.

Wearing a sparkling all-Pink ensemble, Gosling brought the Barbie-vibes to the Oscars stage alongside Slash.

The star's successful performance is hardly surprising, given that Gosling reportedly "brought the Kenergy" during a pre-show rehearsal prior to Sunday's festivities.

"Ryan was in great spirits, and he was a total pro," an inside source told People, "He was joking around and having a great time."

Not only did Gosling secure a 2024 Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of the iconic plastic doll in the 2023 box office smash Barbie, the song "I'm Just Ken" was also nominated in the Best Song category.

In July 2022, the La La Land star told Jimmy Fallon during an appearance on The Tonight Show that after he read the film's script he walked "out in the backyard."

"Do you know where I found Ken, Jimmy?" the actor continued. "Face down in the mud next to a squished lemon." Gosling went on to reveal that he then texted a photo of his daughter's sad Ken doll to Barbie director Greta Gerwig, telling her: "I shall be your Ken, for this story must be told."

While Gosling and his co-star America Ferrera were both nominated for an Oscar in the Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress categories, respectfully, the Academy caused a stir after it decided not to hand out nominations to Barbie star Margo Robbie or director Greta Gerwig.

During a SAG-AFTRA discussion, Robbie responded to the perceived Oscars snub, telling the audience: “There’s no way to feel sad when you know you’re this blessed,” Variety reported at the time.

Gosling also released a statement following his Oscar nomination and commented on the Academy deciding not to nominate his co-star and director in their respective categories.

“There is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally celebrated film,” Gosling wrote in a statement he posted online. “No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit, and genius. To say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement.”

Gosling went on to say via the same statement that "against all odds with nothing but a couple of soulless, scantily clad, and thankfully crotchless dolls, they made us laugh, they broke our hearts, they pushed the culture, and they made history."

"Their work should be recognized along with the other very deserving nominees," he concluded. "Having said that, I am so happy for America Ferrera and the other incredible artists who contributed their talents to making such a groundbreaking film.

Barbie secured a total of eight 2024 Oscars nominations, including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screen play.

It’s basically impossible to imagine Greta Gerwig’s Barbie without Ryan Gosling’s intrepid performance of “I’m Just Ken”—but according to the song’s co-writer, Mark Ronson, the bit almost ended up on the cutting room floor.

Robbie has high hopes for Gosling’s performance at the Academy Awards, telling Variety on Saturday night “He’s going to crush it. I’m so excited. I think he’s going to be the highlight of the whole night. I think a lot of people are going to be tuning in for this specific performance.” 

Of the songwriting process, Ronson acknowledged that “Ken is ridiculous,” he said. “But Greta’s point was that nobody should ever be laughing at a character. We feel their pain, as crazy as that sounds about a guy wearing a white mink and two pairs of sunglasses. I never wanted to write a song for a cheap laugh. You want something to get under people’s skin.”

According to an insider who spoke to People, Gosling took the 2024 Oscars stage inside The Dolby Theatre on Friday, March 8, to rehearse his upcoming and highly-anticipated performance of the Oscar-nominated Barbie song "I’m Just Ken."

"Ryan was in great spirits, and he was a total pro," a source told the publication ahead of the 2024 Academy Awards, which airs on ABC at 7 p.m. EST on Sunday, March 10. 

"He was joking around and having a great time," the source continued.

According to the same source, Gosling was casually dressed during pre-show rehearsal, wearing a simple pair of jeans and a t-shirt.

The source went on to tell People that the award-winning actor "showed no signs of nerves" as he practiced his impending performance along-side Mark Ronson, who is nominated for Best Original Song for co-writing the hit Barbie song.

"Ryan was relaxed, his spirits were high, and everyone was having fun," the source continued, adding that while they were unable to share details regarding Gosling's upcoming "I'm Just Ken" performance with the publication, it will include "many dancers."

Gosling secured a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his portrayal of Ken in the history-making 2023 film Barbie. His co-star America Ferrera is also nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category, but director Greta Gerwig and Barbie herself, Margot Robbie, were not nominated for either Best Director or Best Actress.

In the wake of Robbie and Gerwig's 2024 Academy Awards snub, Gosling spoke out in support of his co-star and director.

Unfortunately for Gosling, his Best Supporting Actor nomination comes alongside a snub for the movie’s director, Greta Gerwig (who many expected to receive a Best Director nod), and Margot Robbie, who played the titular character—expected by many to be nominated for Best Actress. The irony of a man receiving the nod with the women getting shunned, especially when that movie is Barbie, was not lost on the (angry) world yesterday. (In all fairness, America Ferrera—who played Gloria in the film—was nominated for Best Supporting Actress, and the film itself was nominated for a total of eight Oscars, including Best Picture.) 

Both Gosling and Ferrera—who, again, are deserving and shouldn’t have to feel bittersweet about their success—both spoke out against Gerwig and Robbie’s respective shutouts. But now it’s Mendes’ turn to speak out in defense of Gosling, which she did on Instagram today.

Mendes screenshot a Rolling Stone article with the provocative headline “Sorry to Be the One to Say It, but Ryan Gosling Is Giving Major Cringe as Ken in ‘Barbie.’” That apparently touched a nerve with Gosling’s longtime partner Mendes (who also shares two daughters with the actor), as she commented “So proud of my man. So much hate when he took on this role. So many people trying to shame him for doing it. Despite all the #Notmyken ridicule and articles written about him, he created this completely original, hilarious, heartbreaking, now iconic character and took it all the way to the Oscars.”

She signed off, beautifully, “So beyond proud to be this Ken’s Barbie.”

Give it to Mendes for giving us the bit of romantic uplift that we didn't know we needed.

Truly, it’s incredibly unfortunate that Gosling’s shine has to be dimmed because of the Academy’s snubs—as he is deserving of his moment. As is Ferrera, who commented on Mendes’ post, adding three hand clap emojis and writing “He is brilliant as Ken! Pulled off a triple somersault performance! We’re so lucky it was him and I’m so grateful for the way he showed up with his super stardom, and continues to show up to support all the women in this process!! He is a class act and insanely deserving and talented.”

Here's the thing, friends: we can be upset about Gerwig and Robbie but also excited for the deserving Gosling and Ferrera. We can have all things. They’re not mutually exclusive.

And Gosling clearly knows—through his partner’s supportive post and the support of females around him during the filming of Barbie including but certainly not limited to the one-two-three power punch of Gerwig, Robbie, and Ferrera—that women run the world. After all, he and Mendes are raising two daughters to do just that someday. Let the man have his flowers, his moment, and maybe, just maybe, his Oscar.

Ken is NOT having a great day.

"I am extremely honored to be nominated by my colleagues alongside such remarkable artists in a year of so many great films," Gosling told E! News in a statement.

"And I never thought I'd be saying this, but I'm also incredibly honored and proud that it's for portraying a plastic doll named Ken."

However, the actor continued, "there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally celebrated film.

The Academy redeemed itself somewhat with a nomination for Barbie in the best picture category (which means a nomination for both Gerwig and Robbie), a nomination for America Ferrera in the best supporting actress category, and a nomination for the movie in the best adapted screenplay category (which honors Gerwig and her husband and collaborator Noah Baumbach).

Still, people across social media are airing their rage at the irony that Ken was nominated and not Barbie for a film that critiques the patriarchy, and that the movie itself was nominated but not its director—and I have to admit the logic behind these choices is kind of lost on me as well.

The world has gone crazy over Ken Ryan Gosling and his performance in Barbie. To us, he will never be "Just Ken," and to the two daughters he shares with his partner Eva Mendes, he isn't Ken at all, he's "Just Dad."

And, though it seems as though the entire world has seen Gosling's award-winning turn in the Greta Gerwig-directed film, at the 2024 Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Saturday, January 13, Gosling told E! News that his daughters Esmeralda and Amada haven't watched Barbie.

“I don’t know if you should watch your father as Ken," he said. "I don’t know what age is a good age to see your father do that.” 

For the record, Esmeralda is nine, and Amada is seven, and Gosling has previously said that he took on the role of the iconic doll for his girls.

“I knew that they loved it because they kept saying at first, ‘Hey, can we go to Target?'” he recalled. “And we go to Target, and then they’d slowly go by the Barbie aisle. And my wife and I sort of realized, ‘Okay, I think it’s time to let them have Barbies.’ And no interest in Ken, which was pretty interesting, too.”

And ergo is why Gosling decided to take on the role of the life-sized plastic figure as “a way to sort of make something both for and with them."

Okay, then, so why not show them the film?

Gosling did say that "they’ve seen little parts of it” and "they came to set one day when I did a big musical number.” (Maybe "I'm Just Ken"?)

While their daughters haven't seen the film, Mendes has been a vocal supporter of the film and Gosling's role in it.

The actress posted a photo of the actor after "I'm Just Ken" won Best Original Song at the 2024 Critics Choice Awards, and added the caption, "I LOVE HIM!!!!"

Gosling also mentioned Mendes in his acceptance speech for the Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival Saturday night.

"I got to meet the girl of my dreams, Eva Mendes," he said onstage of what his career has brought him. "I have two dream children. I dreamed of one day making movies and now movies have made my life a dream. So the way I see it, there's no way I've contributed half as much to cinema as cinema has contributed to me."

As much as I adore this couple, I can't handle them gatekeeping Barbie from their kids. Those sweet girls deserve to watch that cinematic masterpiece!

In receiving the Kirk Douglas Award, Gosling follows in the storied footsteps of actors like Michael Douglas (who also happens to be Kirk’s son—legendary acting chops run in the family), Robert De Niro, Jessica Lange, Harrison Ford, Jane Fonda, Martin Scorsese, Forest Whitaker, Michelle Yeoh, and John Travolta. Not a bad crowd at all, not to mention the acting legend the award is named for. Gosling is apparently still channeling his inner Ken from last summer’s Barbie, as he quipped when accepting the award that “It’s hard to imagine being at a point in my career where I’m standing up here tonight. It’s just that it’s Kirk Douglas. He’s one of the first true icons of cinema…he is completely and utterly in the class of his own, and I’m…just Ken?” 

The next night, Gosling went from garnering headlines for his sweet comments about Mendes to literally going viral for his deadpan reaction to the camera at Sunday’s Critics Choice Awards. Gosling appeared to be stunned when his song from the Barbie soundtrack, “I’m Just Ken,” won best song at the ceremony, flashing a dubious look after presenters Bella Ramsey and Anthony Ramos named the song as the winner. (The look was incredibly on brand for his character.) “Gosling was seen to raise his eyebrows and look taken aback at the news,” People reports. “He then stood up and appeared to jokingly shake his head in disbelief.”

The song’s writers, Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, then took the stage to accept the award. “Ryan Gosling, this is as much your award as ours,” Ronson said in his acceptance speech. “You made the audience fall in love with this song with your matchless performance, so thank you.”

Speaking of “fall in love,” Mendes took to Instagram yesterday to share a GIF of the viral moment of her longtime partner, captioning the clip (again, a bit uncharacteristically since they so rarely discuss their relationship) “I LOVE HIM!!!!” Hey, turnabout is fair play, we suppose, from Gosling’s own gush from Saturday night. 

The two are so close to the vest about their relationship that, while there has been speculation for years that the couple are married—only fueled when Mendes referred to Gosling as her “husband” in 2022—they have yet to publicly confirm or deny. Though they have been a couple for nearly 13 years, they haven’t accompanied one another on a red carpet in over a decade, and Mendes explained on Instagram why the pair have opted to keep their relationship so private last April, after a fan asked if she would be joining Gosling during awards season.

“We don’t do those things together,” she replied. “Like these photos I’ve been posting, Im only comfortable posting because it’s already out there.” She added, “By ‘not comfortable,’ I mean exposing our very private life that we value. I’m still dying to do another movie with him though…” In a follow-up comment on the same post, Mendes added that she and Gosling actually did one public event together—while promoting The Place Beyond the Pines. “Oh wait -for those who may catch me in a ‘lie’ -we only were on the red carpet together once when promoting this film,” she wrote. After all: was anyone else as happy this year as they were at Barbie? (Not me!)

Plus the video also gave us ample time to gaze and swoon while the Kenergy made Gosling's already melodic voice soar to new (holiday) heights.

Anyway, Merry Christmas, Barbie—wherever you are. And just a general congratulations to Eva Mendes, for obvious reasons.

Well, we called it! We were hoping that a sighting of Ken, sorry, Ryan Gosling leaving a recording studio signaled the start of an illustrious music career, and the next step has been made clear. Thankfully, Gosling agrees that only one version of the summer smash "I'm Just Ken" is just decidedly not enough for 2023.

Gosling initially recorded the hit song "I'm Just Ken" for the Barbie movie (which came out in July), and it entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 87. Pretty impressive for a non-musician! But aside from the rankings, "I'm Just Ken" has become an anthem, a way of life, a viral TikTok sound, and so much more. It's definitely one of the defining songs of 2023.

In the song, Gosling sings about never being enough for Barbie, despite all his efforts to woo her: "Is it my destiny to live and die a life of blonde fragility?" he ponders.

From this song (and this film), "Kenergy" was born, something that Gosling embodies in every fiber of his being. He has taken the character to heart as much as Austin Butler clung to Elvis' accent.

And, at least not yet, the Kenergy doesn't have to end. Yesterday, a teaser was shared of the upcoming Christmas version of the song, "I'm Just Ken (Merry Kristmas Barbie)." In the teaser, Gosling can be seen working with Mark Ronson on the song, both fiddling with the dials.

Ronson—who has worked with Miley Cyrus, Amy Winehouse, and Bruno Mars—was the co-writer and co-producer for the original "I'm Just Ken," and told Entertainment Weekly how much he enjoyed working with Gosling. I can't wait to see what the two of them come up with this time.

Forget Mariah Carey, I'm calling it now—this will be the new theme song of Christmas. Do you think it will land even higher than No. 87 on the charts?

Maybe this is just the start for Ken's singing career. We could get a New Year's Eve anthem of "I'm Just Ken (Please Kiss Me at Midnight, Barbie)," or a Valentine's Day attempt of "I'm Just Ken (Be My Low-Commitment Valentine?)."

And Ken's biggest fan, Gosling's wife Eva Mendes, was quick to show her support. She shared the video with the caption, "Ken not wait for this 🎄" — we can't either!

Just about everyone has been walking around singing "I'm Just Ken" in the months since Barbie was released this past summer. While there are so many incredible aspects of that film (not the least of which is America Ferreira's monologue), that song has lived rent-free in my mind for months.

Well, now it seems like we could potentially be getting another hit song from Ryan Gosling. Was "I'm Just Ken" the beginning of a new music career?

Gosling was photographed leaving United Recording Studio in Los Angeles with writer and producer Mark Ronson. This is the same Ronson who co-wrote and co-produced "I'm Just Ken," which has been nominated for Best Song Written for Visual Media at the 2024 Grammy Awards.

You might also recognize Ronson for co-creating hits like "Valerie" by Amy Winehouse, "Uptown Funk" by Bruno Mars, and "Shallow" by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper from the movie A Star is Born.

Both Ronson and Gosling were carrying guitars, and both men were impeccably dressed. Gosling was wearing a double-breasted jacket and sunglasses, while Ronson was wearing a white suit with thin black stripes.

What were these two up to?

Let's not forget that Gosling sang another song in Barbie, a hilarious yet impressive cover of "Push" by Matchbox Twenty. So we know that he's got range, and now I can't wait to see what he's coming up with next...

Here's the thing about Ryan Gosling, a man whose daughters believe it was weird that he wanted to play Barbie's Ken: he really is just so exceedingly normal. Like, yes, sure, he is also immensely handsome and talented—able to charm the pants off of anyone he meets, even when he's not trying, which would be even more annoying if it were anyone else! Because only an exceedingly normal guy like Ryan Gosling would rush over to help a fallen fan after a barricade collapsed in his vicinity. And that's exactly what he did. Because he's Ryan Gosling, Canadian Man of the People.

Not every man in Hollywood would throw caution to the wind while wearing a gorgeous cream colored coat like that, on the streets of London, in winter. Not mere moments before having to appear on stage at the BFI Southbank for an 'In Conversation about Barbie' event! He's not just Ken, my friends, he's so much more than that! But isn't that just Ryan Gosling for you? Or is this all just set up for Barbie 2?

It was ultimately Rachel McAdams that won the part of Allie alongside Ryan Gosling’s Noah in the hit 2004 film The Notebook—but it could have been a slew of other women, including Britney Spears, multiple outlets report.

And now, over 20 years later, Spears’ audition tape has been released, a two-and-a-half-minute clip where she becomes teary eyed while in character as she breaks the news to Gosling’s Noah that she is marrying Lon, played by James Marsden. “I’m not staying,” Spears said in part of the monologue, per E! News. “I tried to call you to tell you that I wasn’t going to stay—but nobody answered the phone. Noah, you can’t marry two people. And I’m marrying Lon, so I should go, okay?”

The film’s casting director Michael Barry said of Spears that “Britney wasn’t just good—she was phenomenal. It was a tough decision. Britney blew us all away. Our jaws were on the floor. I was blown away. Absolutely blown away. She brought her A-game that day.”

Though the movie didn’t come out until 2004, Spears auditioned in 2002, the same year her film Crossroads hit theaters. In her memoir, The Woman in Me (released today), Spears expressed her relief over not having to step back in front of the camera so soon after Crossroads—instead getting to focus on her music.

“The Notebook casting came down to me and Rachel McAdams, and even though it would have been fun to reconnect with Ryan Gosling after our time on The Mickey Mouse Club, I’m glad I didn’t do it,” she writes. “If I had, instead of working on my album In the Zone, I’d have been acting like a 1940s heiress day and night.”

On playing Lucy Wagner in Crossroads, Spears writes “I hope I never get close to that occupational hazard again. Living that way, being half yourself and half a fictional character, is messed up. After a while you don’t know what’s real anymore.” 

Spears and McAdams weren’t the only two women up for the part—a star-studded list, including Claire Danes, Scarlett Johannsson, Amy Adams, Kate Bosworth, Jamie King, Mandy Moore, and Jessica Biel (who ultimately ended up marrying Spears’ ex, Justin Timberlake), were also contenders for the role, The Daily Mail reports. (“Everybody who was anybody that year wanted this part,” Barry said.)

Gosling went on to date costar McAdams; he later told GQ “I mean, God bless The Notebook—it introduced me to one of the great loves of my life,” he said. “People do Rachel and me a disservice by assuming we were anything like the people in that movie. Rachel and my love story is a hell of a lot more romantic than that.”

What do you get the director of a movie that just surpassed the $1 billion (yes, that’s billion with a “b”) mark at the box office? Well, if you’re Ken—oops, we mean Ryan Gosling—looking to surprise the film’s director Greta Gerwig, you opt for a Barbie-themed flash mob, Access reports.

Gerwig turned the big 4-0 on Friday, and Gosling did it up big. In a video posted to the Barbie movie’s official Instagram account, Gerwig “is captured looking totally shocked when a flash mob comes into her Pilates class singing ‘I’m Just Ken’ to mark her 40th birthday,” Access reports.

After finishing “I’m Just Ken,” the flash mob continued with Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night Away,” which was also featured in the movie.

“As Kens know…Sometimes the only way to express your feelings is through song & dance!” the caption continued. “Ken Ryan [Gosling] sent these special Barbies and Kens to start Greta’s birthday with all the feelings!!!!”

Two days later, Barbie officially surpassed the billion-dollar mark, which is as good of a birthday gift as any for a director. (In its opening weekend alone, the flick pulled in a successful $356 million—the largest opening of all time for a female director.)

Barbie surpassed Chris Pratt’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s $845 million at the box office last week, officially cementing the film as the blockbuster movie of the summer. The movie’s star Margot Robbie effectively predicted this in an interview with Collider; Robbie—who was also an executive producer on the film—has said in interviews that the movie was in development for a decade, and told the outlet that during her pitch meeting to producers, she convinced execs to greenlight the project because of the winning formula of pairing “a big idea with a visionary director” (a la Jurassic Park and “dinosaurs and [Steven] Spielberg”).

“I was like, ‘And now you’ve got Barbie and Greta Gerwig,’” Robbie said. “And I think I told them that it’d make a billion dollars, which maybe I was overselling, but we had a movie to make, okay?!”

Manifestation and speaking it into existence for the win!

You know when you go on a date and your friends are dying to know every detail, and they're kind of disappointed if you didn't kiss? Well, Margot Robbie has to contend with the supersized Hollywood version of that.

In the Barbie movie, Robbie (Barbie) and Ryan Gosling (Ken) are "boyfriend-girlfriend," as Ken so eloquently puts it, but because they—ahem—don't have parts, they also don't really do romance or PDA.

As such, in one scene, Ken leans his face towards Barbie as she stays perfectly still and smiling, then pulls back after he gets to a few inches away from her face.

Asked in a recent interview with People whether she was happy she didn't have to kiss Gosling, Robbie said, "Uh, no! That didn’t feel like a win for me."

She continued, "All of my girlfriends were like, 'Well you did a whole movie with him and you don’t kiss? What’s wrong with you? I thought you were kind of in charge on this one!'" (Robbie was a producer on Barbie and worked closely with director Greta Gerwig on creative decisions.)

Robbie concluded of her interactions with these disappointed friends, "I was like, 'I know, I can’t check that one off [my list].'"

Despite Robbie not getting to kiss Gosling, it sounds like the costars had a great time filming the blockbuster movie, and still managed to bond.

For example, Gosling told the story of a cute tradition Robbie started on set.

"Margot had this pink day once a week, where everyone had to wear something pink. And if you didn’t, you were fined," he said recently. "She would go around collecting the fines, and she would donate it to a charity."

Loved this story when I first heard it, still love it now!

It’s here, it’s here, it’s finally here! This week is the week that Barbie finally hits theaters, and, with so much buzz, we’re pretty stoked to see it for ourselves at last. Just in case you’ve been under a rock, Margot Robbie plays the titular character, with Ryan Gosling alongside her as Ken in the Greta Gerwig-directed film. (If you haven’t checked out this sneak peek from the movie, you must; singing this ballad was actually Gosling’s idea, Marie Claire reported recently.)

People reports that his kids Esmeralda and Amada—who he shares with longtime love Eva Mendes—were confused as to why he would want to play Ken in the first place, since he didn’t play with Barbies himself growing up. “My kids were my introduction to [Barbie],” he said. “I think they’re confused as to why I would want to play Ken. They have no use for Ken.” 

His daughters also helped him prepare for a scene that required an extra amount of work, he told the outlet: “My kids were around for the months at home as I was prepping for it,” he said. “So they, inadvertently, were prepping for it, too. And they came to set that day and were a huge sense of support and doing it with me off-camera.”

Gosling and Mendes have been together for 12 years, since they met in 2011 while filming The Place Beyond the Pines. (Esmeralda is eight, and Amada is seven.) In the film, which premiered in 2012, Gosling and Mendes played a family, which led the actor to realize he wanted to start a family of his own with Mendes. “I wasn’t thinking about kids before I met her, but after I met Eva, I realized that I just didn’t want to have kids without her,” he told GQ earlier this year.

“And there were moments on The Place Beyond the Pines where we were pretending to be a family, and I didn’t really want it to be pretend anymore,” Gosling added. 

The couple is fiercely private about their relationship and especially about their kids. “I have always had a clear boundary when it comes to my man and my kids,” Mendes said in 2020. “I’ll talk about them of course, with limits, but I won’t post pictures of our daily life,” she wrote on Instagram.

“Since my children are still so little and don’t understand what posting their image really means, I don’t have their consent,” she said. “And I won’t post their image until they’re old enough to give me consent.”

Ryan Gosling just wanted to sing, everybody! Mark Ronson, the music producer of the song “I’m Just Ken” from the upcoming Barbie movie, revealed, per People, that the idea to do the ballad performance was Gosling’s, and that director Greta Gerwig rewrote an entire scene so “vocal powerhouse” Gosling could perform the song.

“You really fall in love with this hapless, but immediately sympathetic, figure,” Ronson told Vanity Fair.

Ronson’s inability to find a Ken doll in a sea of Barbies at a toy store is what inspired him to write the power ballad “I’m Just Ken” in the first place. Ronson, who is also the executive producer for the Barbie soundtrack, told Vanity Fair that one of the song’s lyrics, “I’m just Ken / Anywhere else I’d be a 10” came to him instantly. 

“It just seemed funny,” he said. “It felt a little bit emo, like, ‘This poor guy. He’s so hot but can’t get the time of day.'"

When Gosling first heard the demo of the song, he was such a fan that he not only agreed to sing the track for the soundtrack but wanted to perform it on film. Ronson said he was worried about how Gerwig might react, but she agreed with Gosling, and liked the ballad so much that she rewrote a pivotal scene in the movie so that Gosling could belt to his heart’s content in the film.

Ronson called Gosling a “vocal powerhouse”: “He really got [that] it had to walk the line of not being funny or parody,” he said. “But obviously, the song is also kind of ridiculous at times. So he was really amazing, and when he really did start hitting the big notes, I was like, ‘This dude is a vocal powerhouse!’”

Margot Robbie took "on Wednesdays we wear pink" up about 17 notches during the Barbie movie filming.

Much like a real-life Regina George, Robbie took it upon herself to enforce a strict must-wear-pink dress code once a week on set for all cast and crew, her costar Ryan Gosling just amazingly revealed in a new interview with People.

"Margot had this pink day once a week, where everyone had to wear something pink. And if you didn’t, you were fined," the actor shared.

"She would go around collecting the fines, and she would donate it to a charity."

This is amazing. I'm so happy she did this. Anyway, moving on.

"What was really special was just how excited the male crew members were. At the end of the film, they all got together and, with their own money, made pink crew shirts with rainbow fringe," Gosling continued.

"It was this opportunity for them to show their respect and admiration for what Margot and [director] Greta [Gerwig] were creating.

"It was almost like that scene at the end of Dead Poets Society, where they all get on their desk and say, 'O captain! My captain!'"

Safe to say that Barbie isn't just a movie at this point, but a true phenomenon that's influencing pretty much every aspect of our culture right now.

The film hits theaters July 21, and in the meantime I'm hanging on to every scrap of news about it that makes it to me.

The latest amazingness is the revelation that the film almost included a joke about Margot Robbie and Emma Mackey looking super similar, and the latest release consisted of an insane/fabulous song about Ken performed by Gosling himself. Dreams!

Barbie is one of the most buzzed about movies of the summer, and the more sneak peeks we see of it, the more we love. (Is it July 21 yet?) And while the star of the show—Margot Robbie, who plays the title character—has been getting the lion’s share of attention on the film’s worldwide press tour, lest we forget that there is one Ryan Gosling who plays Ken, and he’s the subject of our latest glimpse into the blockbuster.

In a new clip, we see Gosling sing “I’m Just Ken,” where a shirtless Gosling (here for it) is “shown singing dramatically on a bed about always being ‘No. 2’ to Barbie, and later crooning about ‘blonde fragility,’” People reports. A lyric from the song says “I’m just Ken. Where I see love, she sees a friend. What will it take for her to see the man behind the tan and fight for me?” The clip also shows an emotional Ken saying, “I just don’t know who I am without you,” to which Robbie as Barbie replies “You’re Ken!” “But it’s ‘Barbie and Ken,’” Gosling says. “There is no just Ken.”

This, of course, isn’t Gosling’s first rodeo singing tunes in a film—in 2016, it was Emma Stone who was the recipient of Gosling’s romantic tunes in La La Land. Gosling admitted that he wasn’t sure about playing the iconic doll at first, speaking at CinemaCon this past April and saying “I only knew Ken from afar. I didn’t know Ken from within, and, if I’m being really honest, I doubted my Ken-ergy. I didn’t see it, but Margot and Greta, they conjured this out of me somehow,” referring to costar Robbie and the movie’s director, Greta Gerwig.

He continued “It was like I was living my life and then one day I was bleaching my hair, shaving my legs, and wearing bespoke neon outfits and rollerblading down Venice Beach. It came on like a light scarlet fever. Then I woke up one day and was like, ‘Why is there fake tanner in my sheets? What just happened?’”

Robbie had high praise for her costar, telling People “Ryan is the most comedically gifted actor I have ever worked with. He really is. He’s known for his dramatic acting, and rightly so. But he is unbelievably gifted with comedy, and I ruined most of his takes because I was laughing through all of it.”

Just 10 more days to go until we can see it all for ourselves.

The Barbie movie press tour so far has given us some of the very best Barbiecore fashion known to man, with Margot Robbie leading the way in pink outfit after pink outfit inspired by the Mattel doll.

But of course, the star-studded cast of the upcoming film saved their biggest serves for the official world premiere, which took place in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Let me walk you through it.

First up is Dua Lipa, who plays one of the Barbies, and turned up in a nipple-baring sparkling, silver chainmail dress that showed off her white thong underneath. She wore her hair down and finished off the look with the diamond and platinum Graduated Line Necklace from Tiffany & Co.

As for Margot Robbie, who plays the movie's principal Barbie, she eschewed the pink for the occasion, and instead channeled an original Barbie from 1960, named the "Barbie Solo in the Spotlight."

She wore a custom skin-tight, strapless, glittery black gown by Schiaparelli with sticky-outy black taffeta at calf height, long black opera gloves, black peep-toe heels and an impressive diamond choker.

Robbie wore her hair up and styled exactly like the Barbie's, in a retro pony created by hairstylist Bryce Scarlett, using Tangle Teezer tools and Redken products.

Scarlett said, "I was inspired to do this doll-like ponytail from the 1960s to coordinate with her stunning '60s-inspired custom Schiaparelli gown."

Ryan Gosling, who plays the movie's principal Ken, looked fabulous in a baby pink suit and shirt unbuttoned at the top, showing off his chain necklace with the letter E for his partner Eva Mendes in a Barbie font.

America Ferrera, who incredibly DOESN'T play a Barbie in the movie, wore a custom crop top and floor-length skirt set in baby pink satin by St. John. While the custom element means you can't purchase her exact set, you can still get your hands on the dress version of her outfit.

Michael Cera also wore a pink suit, though his was more of a dusty rose/salmon situation, and Kingsley Ben-Adir (another Ken) wore a black shirt and pants with a white suit jacket.

Simu Liu (also Ken, LOL) looked amazing in a baby blue suit and sort-of utility waistcoat thing (technical term).

Director Greta Gerwig stunned in a Barbie pink gown and oversized blazer, paired with a matching Valentino bag.

Alexandra Shipp (a Barbie) wore a cutout black, white and sparkly gown.

Issa Rae (yep, Barbie) wowed in a cutout Barbie pink velvet gown.

Kate McKinnon (uh huh, a Barbie) also hopped on the pink suit train in a custom waistcoat and matching pants from KALLMEYER, worn with pointed-toe stilettos.

Writing on Instagram about the look, the brand said, "What a thrill and honor to get to create a quintessentially KALLMEYER look in celebration of an iconically nostalgic moment. Growing up, I would cut my Barbie’s hair, changed them to Ken’s clothes, and make them kiss and tell my sister I was just making them cool.

"Kate- I know you play Gymnastics Barbie, but thank you for making it cool to be a Gay Barbie." Heartwarming AF!!!!!!

Hari Nef, who plays yet another Barbie, stunned in a frilly, strapless black dress from CELINE by Hedi Slimane, and sparkled up the look with the Tiffany Victoria Diamond Vine necklace, set in platinum, and the Tiffany Victoria Diamond Vine drop earrings, also set in platinum.

Gold stars for everyone!

Do you guys remember that episode of Friends where Brooke Shields' character thinks Joey Tribbiani is actually his on-screen character Dr. Drake Ramoray in real life?

Well, it seems like Ryan Gosling is suffering from the same issue post-filming the Barbie movie—except he has basically become indistinguishable from his own character, i.e. the Ken to Margot Robbie's Barbie.

During a recent red-carpet interview in the country renamed for the occasion "Kenada," where Gosling hails from, the actor was asked about how he was able to find his "kenergy" and how the rest of us can embrace our own inner kenergy.

Gosling looked incredibly serious at this point, shaking his head meaningfully. He told the reporter, "It's there the whole time. You got it, so strong. I can feel it right now. Look no further. You are kenough."

This made Gosling's sister Mandi laugh a lot, and the interviewer said, "OK, we're done. We're done."

But the La La Land actor wasn't done at all. He continued, "It's like wifi—it's there, you don't know... Wait, do you know how it's really there? I don't! I mean, could you explain... wifi?"

When the reporter said that he might be able to, Gosling told him, "OK, well then, maybe you could help me get to the heart of kenergy."

The journalist said, "It's all around you."

Gosling answered, "And it might be affecting the bees, somehow? I'm not sure."

Anyway, for anyone who said that Gosling wasn't the right choice of actor to play Ken in the upcoming movie, I hope this has been enough to convince you otherwise... forever. You're welcome.

Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes keep their family life relatively private, but that doesn't mean they don't sometimes open up about what being parents is like for them.

In a new interview Gosling gave to GQ to mark the upcoming release of the highly anticipated Barbie movie, the Crazy Stupid Love star made the absolute sweetest comments about his little family.

Earlier on in the interview, Gosling told the reporter that he didn't really see himself as a father before it was literally already happening. He said that he first imagined himself as a dad when "Eva said she was pregnant," adding, "I would never want to go back, you know? I’m glad I didn’t have control over my destiny in that way, because it was so much better than I ever had dreamed for myself."

But if you're already swooning over those comments, wait till you read what he said later on, when he had had time to think about the above a bit more.

"When you asked me about Eva and kids," he began.

"I think I said, I didn’t think about kids until she told me she was pregnant. That’s not really true. I didn’t want to overshare, but now I also don’t want to misrepresent.

"I mean, it’s true that I wasn’t thinking about kids before I met her, but after I met Eva, I realized that I just didn’t want to have kids without her.

"And there were moments on The Place Beyond the Pines [the movie they first connected on while filming] where we were pretending to be a family, and I didn’t really want it to be pretend anymore. I realized that this would be a life I would be really lucky to have."

Gosling and Mendes welcomed their first daughter Esmeralda Amada in 2014, and their second daughter Amada Lee in 2016, and the rest is history.

Ryan Gosling is starring as the Ken to Margot Robbie's Barbie in Greta Gerwig's much-anticipated Barbie movie, and I, personally, cannot imagine a better casting choice.

Unfortunately, Gosling's Ken has received quite a lot of backlash online, with people saying that—at 42—the actor is too "old" to play the fictional himbo doll. (Ken's job, I have just learned, is simply "beach," whatever that means.)

The Notebook star was asked about the backlash in a new interview with GQ, and he said, "I would say, you know, if people don’t want to play with my Ken, there are many other Kens to play with." Simple enough!

Later on in the interview, Gosling added, "It is funny, this kind of clutching-your-pearls idea of, like, #notmyken. Like you ever thought about Ken before this?"

Referencing the fact that the doll's job was "beach," he continued, "And everyone was fine with that, for him to have a job that is nothing.

"But suddenly, it’s like, 'No, we’ve cared about Ken this whole time.' No, you didn’t. You never did. You never cared. Barbie never f***ed with Ken. That’s the point.

"If you ever really cared about Ken, you would know that nobody cared about Ken. So your hypocrisy is exposed. This is why his story must be told."

If Gosling sounds like he's getting a bit defensive at this point, it's because he is. He added, "I care about this dude now. I’m like his representative. 'Ken couldn’t show up to receive this award, so I’m here to accept it for him.'"

I'm not gonna lie, I love this so much.

The Barbie movie—which dropped a new trailer just last week—is set for release on July 21, during peak blockbuster season. Of course.

But it was Mendes’ reply to a commenter that got also got our attention—per Entertainment Tonight, the commenter “expressed that they hoped Gosling’s highly anticipated film, Barbie, would have an awards season run so that fans could see Mendes and Gosling out promoting the film together,” the outlet reports.

“What a cool comment, thank you,” Mendes replied. “But we don’t do those things together. Like these photos I’ve been posting, Im [sic] only comfortable posting because it’s already out there.♥️”

But Mendes quickly corrected herself, remembering that she had posed with Gosling on the red carpet for The Place Beyond the Pines in 2012, adding “Oh wait -for those who may catch me in a ‘lie’ – we only were on the red carpet together once when promoting this film.” (We found a photo from that red carpet, above.)

Per Access, another fan commented and asked why she and Gosling don’t feel comfortable doing red carpets together. Mendes’ reply? “By ‘not comfortable,’ I mean exposing our very private life that we value. I’m still dying to do another movie with him though…” she wrote in part.

The couple share daughters Esmeralda and Amada, and, though neither Mendes nor Gosling have ever officially confirmed the status of their relationship, Mendes did shock fans in November of last year by referring to Gosling as her “husband” during an interview with Australia’s Today. Not long before that interview, she had sparked marriage rumors with a new tattoo that read “de Gosling,” which fans took to mean “of Gosling”—with some believing the ink meant that they had gotten married. 

Are Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling married? Signs are pointing to yes at the moment, but we don't actually have confirmation.

The Hitch star took to Instagram this week to share a photo of herself in a bright yellow tube top and a printed blue scarf wrapped around her messy bun. The photo was especially noteworthy because, in it, Mendes is holding her arm up over her face, so that a tattoo on her wrist is extra visible.

The tattoo in questions reads "de Gosling," which has fans thinking this is the actress' way of announcing that she and her famous partner are in fact married.

The speculation is based on the fact that, in Hispanic culture, a married woman often adds her husband's name to her own with the preposition "de" in between, which would make Mendes' potential married name "Eva Mendes de Gosling," as reported by Harper's Bazaar.

While we don't yet know if Mendes and Gosling are married for real, the two have been in a relationship since 2011, and share two daughters: Esmeralda, 8, and Amada, 6.

While, as celebrity couples go, these two are generally pretty discreet, they regularly show their love and support for each other in very public (and adorable) ways.

By now, I really, really, really hope you’ve had a chance to see Ryan Gosling in his Ken doll glory. The Canadian tuxedo, the “Ken” underwear, the ‘80s workout wear—the “Barbie” movie is simply that gift that keeps giving great Gosling photos. And it’s hard to talk about said photos, without mentioning the actor’s very bronzed complexion. Granted, a perfectly sunkissed, expertly even, and very dark tan is integral to the whole Ken vibe. But that in mind, achieving such a perfect tan—sans an exorbitant amount of sun exposure—wasn’t easy. 

“We generally had to re-apply his tan every week unless there was a specifically big scene where the studio wanted his tan to look as fresh and as 'perfect' as possible,” the movie’s tanning expert Kimberley Nkosi exclusively told Marie Claire. "In this case, especially with the tan having to work under various light sources and other aspects of onset tan, the ability to blend and control the color [was key.]”

To avoid blotches, unevenness, or anything short of perfection, Nkosi created a pretty intense routine complete with prep, tanning, and hydration. And while her formula was pretty stellar, she tells us that the “flawless” outcome wouldn’t have been possible if Gosling wasn’t so “dedicated” to the whole process. 

“My favorite products to use for the Ken transformation were from Isle of Paradise, mainly because they are not only very hydrating for the skin, but also because they have color correcting qualities,” Nkosi explains. “They can be mixed to a custom blend so that you can truly give your client a bespoke finish that suits their skin tone and looks natural.”  She’d “always” use the medium shade on Gosling, with a “touch of dark to balance his undertone and make sure he was camera-ready.” 

As for the shiny skin component that was clearly going on? She’d slather Gosling’s skin in the Dr. Hauschka Lemon Lemongrass Vitalizing Body Oil, which has toning and firming properties (not that he needed it). To finish off the entire routine, she’d put a little of Glossier Mango Butter on his lips.

The first image of Ryan Gosling as Ken in Greta Gerwig's 2023 live-action Barbie movie has been revealed, and it's fair to say there are some Big Feelings floating around the internet.

The photo shows the actor posing next to a—what else?—Barbie pink house, smirking, with his hair bleached blonde, wearing a washboard ab-revealing denim vest and looking generally and objectively drop-dead gorgeous (I have seen some people disagree with me, but they are, for all intents and purposes, incorrect).

Social media had a minor meltdown over the image, but like in a good way. One Twitter user wrote, "Freddie Prinze Jr's Fred walked so Ryan Gosling's Ken could run," alongside the above photo and one of Prinze in Scooby-Doo, which, creative.

Someone else simply expressed how I'm feeling right now: "Ryan Gosling as Ken in #Barbie is actually perfect," they wrote.

Another person wrote an enthused paragraph about it all, and I also could not agree more: "I’m so happy like how do they keep making such good things. You’d think they’d run out of incredible things to make but then Greta Gerwig is like actually I’m gonna direct a Barbie movie and Ryan Gosling will be ken. Just very good," the Twitter user contributed. Yeah, basically.

A corresponding photo of Margot Robbie, who stars as Barbie herself in the upcoming flick, was released last month. In that pic, she wears a blue and white striped halter top, a big blue bracelet and a polka-dotted hairband, while beaming at the camera from the driver's seat of her Barbie car.

If you’ve ever had your armpits, legs, upper lip, or bikini line waxed, you’re well aware it’s not necessarily an enjoyable experience. And thanks to his new gig as a Ken doll in the upcoming Barbie movie, Simu Liu can empathize. He kicked his grooming routine into high gear ahead of filming by getting his full body waxed—no hair left behind. 

“Waxing has been an education to say the least,” the Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings actor told The Independent in a recent interview. “It was one of the most painful experiences of my life. I have a new admiration for the incredibly brave women who go through this on a monthly basis.” 

Getting his body in a hairless state might not be the only way Liu is prepping for the movie. In early February, the Marvel actor took to Instagram to debut a new platinum blonde hairstyle. “Sorry ma pls don’t kill me,” he captioned a shirtless selfie. While some very perceptive followers guessed the new look was for a gig, news that Liu was officially joining the cast didn’t break until a few weeks later. 

Very little is known about the movie, but according to an interview Liu did with GQ last month, it’s “incredibly unique” and “wild.” He also spilled that the main reason he decided to go for the role was thanks to a rave review from his agent. “He [my agent] literally said this verbatim,” Liu said. “He was like, ‘If I could stake my career on any one script, it’s the Barbie script. I really think you should do it.’”

Liu isn’t the only big name in Barbie. Margot Robbie has the leading role and Ryan Gosling has been tapped to play the main Ken doll. A first look of Robbie in character was released earlier this year—and it effectively broke the internet. We have yet to see a glimpse of Gosling dressed as Ken, but rest assured, we’re anxiously awaiting an image. Barbie is set to be released on July 23, 2023.

Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling have long maintained a closely guarded private life, rarely speaking about their relationship or their two children, Esmeralda and Amada—and while I'm an intensely nosy person who is literally paid to write about celebrities, Mendes and Gosling's decision makes a lot of sense to me. When a fan asked the former on Instagram why she doesn't share more about her family, Mendes explained her stance.

"I have always had a clear boundary when it comes to my man and my kids," she wrote, as People reports. "I’ll talk about them of course, with limits, but I won’t post pictures of our daily life."

"Since my children are still so little and don’t understand what posting their image really means, I don’t have their consent," Mendes continued. "And I won’t post their image until they’re old enough to give me consent."

Mendes talked a little about parenting on Access Daily back in September 2019: "Oh gosh, it’s so fun and beautiful and maddening," she said. "It’s so hard, of course. But it’s like that feeling of like, really, you end your day, you put them to bed, and Ryan and I kind of look at each other like, 'We did it, we did it. We came out relatively unscathed, you know?'"

Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling are a couple who love their dogs—and have suffered some heartbreaking pet losses over the past few years. Eva lost Hugo, her Belgian Malinois, recently, telling People, "He prepped me for motherhood." And Ryan lost George, partner in the greatest paparazzi photo of all time (yes, I'm referring to Ryan carrying George up an escalator), back in 2016; the following year, he wore a T-shirt bearing George's photo as he hosted Saturday Night Live. But here's some happy news: There's a new dog in Mendes and Gosling's lives, according to Eva's Instagram, and his name is Lucho. 

Lucho is a Doberman puppy, People reports, and he is positively adorable. Eva shared a photo cuddling her new pup, seizing the moment to urge her followers to adopt, not shop, or to donate to the Friends for Life Rescue Network where she met Lucho. "If you’re looking for a fluffy family member, adoption is a great option. So many little dudes out there needing a home," she wrote.

"If you’re not able to have a pet but love animals, you can donate to this nonprofit. All donations are tax deductible. Your donation helps keep animals off the streets and out of shelters where they euthanize," Eva added. 

Lucho's landed on his paws at the Mendes-Gosling household, where he's likely to be absolutely adored. Speaking about Hugo to People in September 2018, Eva said, "I would just talk to him and I would treat him like a person, like, I think, most dog lovers do. I just have that bond that will be there … He may be gone, but that feeling has never left me. It is one of the most special presences in my life."

And Ryan is probably going to cherish Lucho just as much, if his bond with George is anything to go by. In 2017, he chatted to Ellen DeGeneres about his late pup, as Vanity Fair reports, saying, "There was something about George where...I think he felt like being a dog was beneath him. He would not do tricks. If you wanted him to sit down, you had to sort of convince him it was in his best interest. Like, 'Look, we’re gonna be in this car for about three hours, so if you want to sit down you might be more comfortable this way.' Then he might consider it."

Ryan Gosling is one of those very private celebrities who rarely talks about his personal life, so it came as a bit of shock when he shared details about his home life with Eva Mendes and their daughters, Esmeralda and Amada Lee, during an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

The actor was a guest on a special "Game Night" edition of the talk show after the NBA Finals game, but he admitted that he hadn't had a chance to watch the games before the interview.

"Well, I knew I was going to be on the show so I was excited to watch the games," he said. "But I have a 2-year-old and a 3-and-half-year-old, so, let’s be honest, I’m not watching anything that doesn’t have a talking tiger in it."

Apparently, Gosling's kids are obsessed with Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood. The more you know, right?

Gosling also talked about the intense training he underwent to play astronaut Neil Armstrong in the upcoming First Man. The physical training was so intense, Gosling thought he might have suffered brain damage.

"I did some physical training. At NASA, they put us through the paces in certain ways. For instance, they built this multi-axis trainer, which is something NASA designed just to help the astronauts prepare for the worst-case scenarios in space," he said. "But it’s this thing that kind of sends you ass over teakettle. They would only do it for 20 minutes at a time or something but in the movie, because we had to get a lot of shots, I was in it for like six to eight hours. So I started to sort of smell a rat up here [he pointed at his head]. Something was wrong. That, and getting banged around in the capsules and hitting my head, that something might be wrong."

Gosling's partner, Mendes, was there for him though.

"Well, I knew something was wrong when I went home one night and I called Eva, and I was just hellbent on this idea that there were people in donut stores all around the world that were trying to charm their way into getting free donuts," he said. "She was so patient and listening. She was like, 'I’ve been saying you have brain damage as a joke, but I think you might have brain damage. I think you should go to the hospital.'"
