It starts as a straightforward off-the-shoulder design with thick straps, the better to display a stunning DeBeers choker. But as the dress travels to the ground, slashing cut-outs appear revealing stripes of Williams's abs and legs. The 2025 Super Bowl was a big day for... well, for the players on the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs, but also for Taylor Swift and Serena Williams. Swift was at the game rooting for her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, and Williams made a surprise appearance during Kendrick Lamar's halftime show, crip walking to his song "Not Like Us". Williams' daughter, Olympia, was also at the event and was after one thing: a Taylor Swift autograph. Unfortunately for the seven-year-old, her mother had a good reason to decide it wasn't the time or the place.

Williams was just named one of the 100 Most Influential People of 2025 by Time, and in a profile of her for the magazine, she talked about her experience at the Super Bowl, including avoiding Swift.

At first, Williams, her husband Alexis Ohanian, and Olympia waited near Swift's suite to see if they could catch her.

"I’m such a mom. I was ready to go in here myself and be like, 'Taylor, come get this girl,'" the tennis champion said. But, she decided to give Swift some space, because the Chiefs were losing. (The Eagles ending up winning the game 40-22.)

"It’s hard when your team is losing," Williams told Time. "I totally get it." There are few people who could possibly "get it" as much as Williams does. She's one of the greatest athletes of all time and has experienced the highs and lows of competing countless times.

In the article, Williams also talked about criticism she received for her appearance at the Super Bowl, both for crip walking and for appearing to diss her ex Drake by performing with Lamar. (She says she wasn't).

"My husband and I, we’re so in a different space," Williams said. "We’re so connected, we’re so in love, we’re just, like, trying to get our daughter Taylor Swift autographs. And nothing else."

Williams will likely be able to get Olympia that autograph one day, because she and Swift have a connection that goes back years. In 2015, Williams appeared on stage during one of Swift's concerts in London. The following year, they were photographed during a night out together.

When Swift was booed by Eagles fans at the Super Bowl, Williams stood up for her. She wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "I love you @taylorswift13 dont listen to those booo!!"

In the Time profile, Williams also commented on the situation. Why would you boo her?" she said. "That’s so mean. That’s just awful."

In between raising two daughters, running a venture capital company, and owning a Canadian women's basketball team, Serena Williams has somehow found the time for another exciting project: designing a children's clothing line in collaboration with Janie and Jack. Now, the limited-edition collection—which features breezy apparel, beach-ready swimwear, and adorable accessories for kids up to 12 years old—is finally out in the world just in time for all those spring and summer adventures you have coming up.

Naturally, much of the inspiration for the colorful drop came from the tennis legend's young family. The collection includes two coordinated mommy-and-me ensembles, along with a reimagined take on Serena’s iconic childhood tennis looks. Her daughters Olympia and Adira even posed alongside Williams in their first-ever campaign together.

"I've always shopped at Janie and Jack since Olympia was a baby," Williams tells Marie Claire. "And I think they saw that whenever I posted pictures, Olympia had a lot of Janie and Jack on. I'm not a children's clothing designer. I've always done women's and ready-to-wear and activewear. So I definitely leaned on the team when it came to design, but was able to provide inspirations such as colors and patterns."

Of course, Williams is no rookie when it comes to dreaming up fabulous clothes. In the midst of her tennis career, Williams studied fashion design for three years in the early aughts. She later launched a clothing line, S by Serena, as well as an eponymous jewelry line. She's also worked diligently to highlight emerging designers through her womenswear partnership and apprenticeship program with Nike. That said, even with decades of experience under her belt, designing for children was "more of a learning moment" for Williams.

"Their needs are different just in terms of the neck lines and in terms of the clothes being wearable and usable and functional," she says.

The other challenge, of course, is that children have creative minds and opinions of their own. Olympia is only seven years old, but Williams says she's been dressing herself since she was one.

"She's a girly girl," the 43-year-old quips. "She has a very eclectic type of style. She's very innovative, and I love it. I love seeing that she doesn't follow the curve."

Luckily, mother and daughter agree when it comes to the color pink—Williams's favorite—and one of the collection's best ensembles.

"We call it the GOAT skirt and top," Williams says. "It's really meaningful to me. It was inspired by an outfit I wore as little girl, and it definitely speaks to Olympia because she's really into two-pieces now. She's seven and she's been dressing herself for six years—I'm not kidding. She's very opinionated and always has been on what she wears. So that piece really speaks to her. And I think she likes it because when I show her pictures of me, she's like, 'Oh, I want to be like you.'"

For now, matching outfits are mostly reserved for special occasions and travel. In her everyday life as a working mother, Williams prefers to keep it simple.

"When it comes to dressing as a family, I always want my girls to feel safe and comfortable, and I always want them to look safe and comfortable," she says.

The collection is filled with pieces that are absolutely begging to worn on a warm weather vacation, but they're equally suited to school and weekend errand-running.

"It's really just about being happy and going to a happy place," Williams concludes. "It doesn't necessarily have to be a physical place. You don't need to physically go anywhere. 'Look good, feel good' plays a big role. And when you have that, you can just kind of imagine that you're somewhere else and have that experience through your clothing."

Meghan Markle and Serena Williams held a Rich Mom Summit over an Italian power lunch in Montecito ahead of the the Duchess of Sussex's Netflix show premiere. After dropping by the Sussex family home for a quick auntie playdate with Princess Lilibet, the tennis champion and her royal bestie headed over to Tre Lune Ristorante to indulge in a celebratory meal of risotto and Caesar salad.

On Mar. 1, the dynamic duo pulled up to the eatery in outfits that spoke to the arc of their fifteen-year friendship. That's right—Williams and Markle's bond predates Meghan's marriage to Prince Harry, having met at the 2010 Super Bowl and later competed in DIRECTV’s Celebrity Beach Bowl together the same year. Any Oscars after-party will have plenty of diamond necklaces and vintage gems to go around. But tennis phenomenon-turned-mogul Serena Williams served a curveball luxury accessory with her Dolce & Gabbana dress at the March 2 bash: a luxurious Audemars Piguet watch.

In her first appearance since surprising the Super Bowl halftime show last month, Williams walked the annual Vanity Fair Oscars After-Party red carpet in bombshell fashion. She sampled the evening's big corset dress trend—also worn by Kylie Jenner and Jenna Ortega—with a strapless Dolce gown featuring a semi-sheer sequin bodice, a mile-high slit revealing one thigh, and a voluminous skirt.

Stylist Lyndrea Price stacked Williams's look with the high-wattage accessories common to the post-Oscars event, including a diamond necklace set with a teardrop-shaped ruby and a ring coated in pavé black diamonds. But it's her matte black watch that still managed to pull focus.

Sporty watches aren't often in incorporated with womenswear looks on the Oscars red carpet, both for the after-party and main event. Her Audemars Piguet timepiece was a 1:1 match to the inky shade of her gown, and featured a face lined in what looked like tiny diamonds from afar. Celebrities are getting more and more comfortable flashing wrist candy on and off the red carpet. Taylor Swift last year acquired two new loud luxury watches: a diamond-encrusted Cartier watch gifted by Travis Kelce, and a Louis Vuitton Tambour watch valued at $54,000. When your parents are members of the British Royal Family, it's safe to assume you've met a fair amount of famous people. Case in point: Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry's 3-year-old daughter—Princess Lilibet—just had a playdate with international tennis champion Serena Williams.

In a series of Instagram Stories, Meghan Markle shared photos and videos of Princess Lilibet playing a very pink edition of the Candy Land board game with Williams. The Duchess of Sussex captioned one snap, "When the aunties comes to celebrate...and to play! Love you @serenawilliams." The iconic song "Lovely Day" by Bill Withers accompanied the video.

Meghan captioned another Instagram Story of the playdate, writing, "3 days until the party begins. All are invited." She then tagged Netflix, in reference to her new TV series, With Love, Meghan, which premieres on March 4.

The Duchess of Sussex and Williams have maintained a close friendship for many years—preceding Meghan's marriage to Prince Harry. Having met at the Super Bowl in 2010, their friendship was seemingly solidified when they competed in DIRECTV’s Celebrity Beach Bowl the same year.

In 2018, the professional tennis star opened up about her friendship with Meghan in an interview with Australia's The Sunday Project. "We have known each other for a long time, but we really kind of are relying on each other quite a lot recently," Williams explained.

Following Harry and Meghan's candid interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, Williams came to her friend's defense. Serena Williams just made her Super Bowl 2025 debut—as a surprise halftime show performer, that is.

The tennis legend briefly joined Pulitzer Prize-winning rapper Kendrick Lamar toward the end of his historic 15-minute set, appearing onstage in a cropped cobalt blue jacket, white crop top, and pleated skirt—all staples of her history-making tennis fashion as a Grand Slam champion. As in her tennis days, the pieces were custom-made by Nike, specifically from its Nike 24.7 collection. A stack of diamond necklaces, including a heart shaped pendant, glistened under the lights of the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans above her white top. And while the last time she appeared in a major stadium came with tricked-out Nike sneakers, she opted for classic blue high-tops this time around.

Williams's cameo in the political performance lasted for the blink of an eye, but it made an impact. She crip walked to "Not Like Us," Lamar's Grammy-winning diss track about the rapper Drake. Fans online speculated Williams had reason to take Lamar's side in their ongoing beef. She and Drake were rumored to have dated in the mid-2000s; late last year, Page Six reported his song "Too Good" was written about her. Lamar then referenced the song in "Not Like Us," rapping, "From Alondra down to Central—better not speak on Serena."

The tennis star had already made her appreciation for the track clear at another event. Hosting the ESPY Awards in 2024, she danced to "Not Like Us" several times during her opening monologue.

Of course, the duo has a connection beyond any mutual dislike of Drake. Both are proud Los Angeles natives from the neighborhood of Compton.

Cobalt blue tennis separates were part of a bigger picture on the Super Bowl halftime stage. All of the performers wore red, white, and blue—the colors of the American flag—to underscore Lamar's lyrics critiquing American politics and culture throughout the set. (Exact credits for Williams's look were not available at press time.) Other notable cameos included SZA (performing "All the Stars" in a lace-up red leather outfit) and Samuel L. Jackson (playing the role of Uncle Sam, narrating the show).

While Williams has made history on several world stages, her Super Bowl cameo offered an opportunity the pro tennis circuit never could. During her competition days, as X (formerly Twitter) user @notdanilu noted, the GOAT was lambasted in the media for crip-walking after a win at Wimbledon. If Google's top searches are to be believed, lots of people think Venus and Serena Williams are twins.

Venus recently spoke out about the common mistake, joking about it during an interview.

The tennis star was asked for her thoughts on her future retirement, and how she anticipated she would feel once she made that leap.

"As that moment gets closer..." Venus began, interrupting herself to add, "and Serena ruined it for me. Because as soon as she retired, everybody thought I retired."

She went on to explain that people sometimes can't distinguish between Venus and Serena's separate career paths within tennis, saying, "Sometimes they even think we’re twins. So, if you guys did think so, we are two separate people, born on different days. It's okay, now you know."

For the record, 44-year-old Venus is a year older than Serena. And Venus is still actively playing tennis while Serena retired from the sport in 2022.

Venus went on to explain how she thinks she may feel when the time comes to retire.

"I always thought that I would be just crying when I had to retire, because it’s all you know," she said in the interview. "You spend your whole life programming your mind to do that every single day. It’s the first thing you think about when you wake up, the first thing when you go to bed. You dream about it and all these kinds of things."

She continued, "Now I realize that I won’t cry, because I’ve definitely given everything to this sport."

She concluded by saying, "I think more than anything, I’ll be grateful. I think that will be the feeling, and every now and then I'll want to threaten to come back."

Her sister, Serena, has hinted that she may want to return to pro tennis. She told Vanity Fair in July that the possibility was "always going to be in the back, back, back, back, back, back, back of my mind."

Pamela Anderson's much-deserved renaissance continues, as she has been selected as one of Glamour's Women of the Year, alongside Serena Williams. In a wide-ranging interview with the publication, Anderson reflects on everything from her dextrous career to her family life and the men she's fallen in love with along the way.

Serena Williams was less than impressed with her recent experience with Parisian hotel The Peninsula's rooftop restaurant.

The retired tennis champ took to social media to express her discontent, writing on X, "Yikes @peninsulaparis I’ve been denied access to rooftop to eat in a empty restaurant of nicer places but never with my kids. Always a first. #Olympic2024"

The Peninsula promptly responded, claiming in a statement shared with Us Weekly that they simply weren't able to seat Williams and her kids because they were booked up.

"In response to Mrs. Williams’ tweet, for whom we have the utmost admiration and respect, as we do for all our esteemed guests, we can only reiterate our deepest apologies for her perception of tonight’s situation," the statement read.

"Today, August 5th, our rooftop bar was indeed fully booked, and the only unoccupied tables at that time belonged to our gourmet restaurant, L’Oiseau Blanc, which was also fully reserved tonight.

"She has always been, and will always be, more than welcome with her family at The Peninsula."

Williams is mom to Olympia, 6, and Adira, 1, whom she shares with husband Alexis Ohanian.

The tennis legend has been in Paris to follow this year's Olympics. On July 26, she participated in the torch relay at the opening ceremony, which was pretty eventful thanks to the weather.

In a TikTok posted the next day, she said, "Alright, that's a wrap on everything. It's been a heck of a night. I was in the boat, it was pouring rain, my lashes came off, my hair came down. Yesterday, July 25, Serena Williams attended the "Prelude To The Olympics" party at the Fondation Louis Vuitton museum in Paris, sporting a head-to-toe Louis Vuitton ensemble styled by Kesha Mcleod. She wore an all black, three-piece suit that featured a tailored vest with a plunging neckline and a matching blazer, both fastened with bright white buttons. On bottom, fitted trousers with a subtle flare and shiny satin pointed-toe pumps.

She delivered a pop of color through her blue and green checkered Louis Vuitton mini trunk, designed by Pharrell Williams from the Spring/Summer 2025 collection. Williams's recent style choices have mostly consisted of pink-on-pink glamour. The tennis legend hosted Thursday's ESPY Awards. At one point, she was on stage with sister Venus Williams and actress Quinta Brunson, who were discussing women's sports.

Venus told the crowd, "So, go ahead and enjoy women's sports like you would any other sports, because they are sports."

Serena ~butted~ in, "Except you, Harrison Butker. We don't need you," which drew a big laugh from the audience.

Brunson also expressed her thoughts on the controversial NFL player, adding, "At all. Like, ever."

In case you somehow missed this story, Butker—a kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs—made a whole lot of people angry a couple months ago when he gave a commencement speech at the Catholic Benedictine College in Atchinson, Kansas.

There, he implied that the female graduates cared more about starting a family than starting a career, despite having just earned a degree.

"I want to speak directly to you briefly, because I think it is you, the women, who have the most diabolical lies told to you," he told the crowd.

"How many of you are sitting here now, about to cross this stage, and are thinking about all the promotions and titles you're going to get in your career?

"Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage, and the children you will bring into this world."

His speech also contained remarks that commenters viewed as "homophobic" and "transphobic."

Unsurprisingly, people were outraged online.

Many celebrities also shared their unfiltered thoughts on Butker's speech, including Maren Morris, Flavor Flav, Hoda Kotb, and Maria Shriver.

Last night's ESPYs were noteworthy in large part thanks to Serena's A+ hosting game, her stunning red-carpet look, and her shoutout to her good friends Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The Duke of Sussex was in attendance because he was being honored with the Pat Tillman Award for Service, and he was accompanied by the duchess for a rare public date night.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes also won big on the night, taking home the award for Best Male Athlete.

The ESPY Awards found the host with the most style in Serena Williams.

The tennis legend, who's won twelve ESPY Awards herself but never attended the event until tonight, arrived at the red carpet outside the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Thursday, July 11, wearing a custom black gown by Giorgio Armani Privé. Her dress's sculpted bra was fully embroidered in twinkling gold, while the train was coated in gold Swarovski crystals. Together, they gave her black column gown a refined, layered effect.

The back of her gown continued the embellishments featured on the front, with a V-cut silhouette. She matched the diamond-like shimmer of her dress to star-like drop earrings that dusted her curls.

After walking the carpet solo, Williams was joined by her husband, Alexis Ohanian, and her first child, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. Alexis wore a sweet shimmery pink dress and metallic gold sandals, while her father wore a black suit and blue Nike sneakers.

If fashion could earn a gold medal, this dress would be a contender. Williams's look was understated, but still glamorous—just the sort of gown to command the theatre as host while spotlighting the evening's award-winners. Her blonde, old Hollywood waves only emphasized the dress's elegance.

Williams accentuated the gold detailing on her dress with an equally medal-worthy manicure by nail artist Sreynin Peng. Her fingers were polished with a gold-chrome polish matching the train of her dress. "Since she would have many looks throughout the night, we wanted to focus on her red carpet look for inspiration," Peng said in a statement.

Serena Williams's relationship with style is a legendary one. As she racked up Grand Slam titles during her career, her custom Nike on-court outfits laid the foundation for the tennis fashion trend dominating stores today (and inspired some of Zendaya's Challengers press tour wardrobe). Her affinity for pushing the boundaries of sport style hasn't slowed down following her retirement from tennis in September 2022.

Williams has lately been playing with corsetry and color trends in her formal style moments. Attending the Essence Festival in New Orleans earlier this month, she hit the carpet in a sultry black midi dress by Dolce & Gabbana. (The appointment has come with some criticism, but the former royals are reportedly not paying attention to it.) On the athletics front, NCAA-turned-WNBA phenomenon Caitlin Clark is the most nominated player of the evening.

The guest with the most outfit changes is undoubtedly Williams. Her team hinted that she would have several looks throughout the night. Custom Armani Privé is a shimmering start.

Serena Williams never became a professional athlete for the money, but of course the money followed her success.

Appearing on a recent episode of First We Feast's Hot Ones, the tennis champion confirmed a pretty funny—and I'm afraid to say, highly unrelatable—anecdote about herself.

"Is it true that you rarely collected your winnings your first year on tour and then once tried unsuccessfully to cash your first million-dollar check in a drive-thru ATM?" asked host Sean Evans.

"Yeah, those are all true," Williams confirmed. "So, I never played for money. Like, I played 'cause I loved the sport. I wanted to be the best. I wanted to win, I don't even know if at the time I wanted to be the best. I just wanted to win."

Because playing to the best of her ability was her focus, the Serena Ventures founder sometimes forgot to collect her paychecks at the time.

"So my tax guy, he would be like, 'You didn't get your money,'" she recalled. "I'm like, 'Ooooh, I didn't get that when in Zurich, oh, I forgot that when in Moscow.'"

Eventually, though, she collected her earnings—and by then it had added up to a pretty substantial sum.

"I got my check and it was a million dollars," Williams said. "Like, okay, I'm gonna go deposit it. I'd never really spent a lot of money. I was so serious. I don't know what happened to me, I used to be serious. So I just went through the drive-thru ... and the guy was like, 'Uh, I think you need to come inside for this.'"

Evans and Williams ended up chalking this one up to "lessons to learn." For most of us, sadly, there may not be many applications for this newfound wisdom, but I certainly enjoyed the story!

Tennis great Serena Williams seems to be taking a page out of Charli XCX's fashion playbook and incorporating the "brat girl summer" trend into her summer wardrobe.

On Saturday, July 6, Williams shared a video on Instagram highlighting the breezy summer outfit she wore while making a surprise visit at an Ultra Beauty salon to say hello to shoppers of her makeup brand, WYN.

The GOAT wore a simple, bubblegum pink mini dress featuring thick straps and a slight flare, complimented by a pair of brat girl summer approved green slides.

"Yesterday I popped up at @ultabeauty and surprised some @wyn shoppers," Williams captioned the playful video." You never know which @ultabeauty I’ll 'pop up at.' Could yours be next? P.S. don’t mind my messy room."

For the uninitiated, the "brat girl summer" trend—and more specifically the decision to incorporate what is being referred to as brat green—is dominating 2024 courtesy of Charli XCX and her latest album, aptly titled Brat.

The album's signature slime-green art quickly became an internet phenomenon—#BratGreen went ultra-viral, amassing more than 2.6 million tagged posts on Instagram. On TikTok, fashion brands like Kate Spade have been posting "brat starter packs,” while the color itself has started to appear on everything from Trader Joe’s chalkboard signs to brat-branded bratwursts.

In a recent interview, Charli XCX admitted that she specifically chose the eye-catching, almost obscene and even controversial color on purpose.

“I’d like for us to question our expectations of pop culture—why are some things considered good and acceptable and some deemed bad?" she told Vogue Singapore in her April cover story. "I’m interested in the narratives behind that and want to provoke people."

Serena Williams has been playing with 2024 summer trends, including the timeless denim look that has been experiencing something of a resurgence.

In a recent Instagram post, Williams declared that the "jean skirt is baaaaaaackkkkk" before attempting to wear a denim skirt she had showcased previously but did not yet fit.

"Paris was fun, but I gotta see if I can fit in this skirt yet—saying a little prayer…lol," Williams captioned the post, while telling herself in the video not to "get negative if it doesn't work out."

Spoiler Alert: The skirt doesn't fit just yet, so Williams is promising fans one more video to document the end of her denim skirt journey.

Williams is also clearly adhering to stylist Alison Bornstein’s wrong shoe theory, which suggests fashionistas the world over intentionally wear shoes that juxtapose the rest of the outfit to create a more interesting overall look.

It's been almost two years since Serena Williams retired from tennis. Now that she's made her full pivot from athlete to entrepreneur, with her brand Wyn Beauty out in the world, she's dressing the part. Yesterday, front row at the Gucci Men's Spring Summer 2025 Fashion Show for Milan Fashion Week, Williams wore a monochromatic ballet slipper pink pantsuit, complete with a matching belt, a sheer button-down shirt, and coordinating bra.

Dressed by stylist Kimberly Sussman Bridges, Williams was dripping in Gucci from head to toe. She draped her pale pink double breasted blazer around her shoulders, layered overtop a silky blouse in the exact same color patterned with gem GG logos. (A bold choice, considering the temperature was in the mid-80s.) Her light mauve bra peeked out from the half-buttoned, semi-sheer button-down. Williams tucked her shirt into matching wide-leg, high-waisted trousers, cinched with a pale pink leather belt.

The only items that strayed from the pink theme were Williams's clear sandal high heels, her oversized orange ombré sunnies, and her red patent leather half-circle handbag.

It seems as though Williams has found her color. Just last week at Tribeca Film Festival, the star wore a sheer pink corset dress, plus diamonds and pink gemstones. Back in April, for Byrdie's Spring Beauty Issue, Williams was styled in the same shade for a dramatic ballerina-esque look.

Yesterday's business-core look was relatively new for Williams, who tends to go for more feminine silhouettes. (The touch of semi-sheer styling wasn't too far out of the norm: After the Met Gala, she hit the afterparties in an unexpected crochet naked dress.)

On Thursday, June 13, while attending the world premiere of her new docuseries In The Arena: Serena Williams during the 2024 Tribeca Festival at the BMCC Theater in New York City, Williams arrived in a Marilyn Monroe-inspired light pink halter corset dress by Dolce & Gabbana, featuring a satin bodice fit for royalty.

From the structured, corseted bodice with a tulle halter overlay, the tennis star's dress flitted outward into a knee-length blush skirt featured a thigh-high leg slit. Williams expertly paired it with light pink, chunky, peep-toe heels, a matching pink clutch, and a breathtaking drop necklace.

While Williams arrived at the event in an all-out glam outfit, she was there to highlight the not-so-glamorous side of professional tennis.

“A lot of people get to see the grand slam victories and mostly the trophy and finals, they never get to see the practices," she told Extra at the premiere. "They never see everything that goes into that.”

Williams went on to say that the film offers viewers "an intimate back look of everything that happens," and explained that it "was something that I thought would be a really good story to tell."

According to the film festival’s website, the docuseries “explores the pivotal moments in Serena’s life on and off court, illustrating the series of steps that, when reflected upon, show the incredible distance travelled over the course of her career.”

After going pro at the tender age of 14 and went on to win an astonishing 25 Grand Slam titles. The theme of this year's gala is "The Garden of Time" in celebration of the Met's exhibit titled "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion." Fittingly, the mother of two wore a gilded golden one-shoulder gown, making her a standout among every look on the Met Gala carpet.

A custom gold floral headpiece from New York-based designer Jennifer Behr, cuffed bracelets, a selection of gold rings, and a pair of black opera-length gloves perfectly finished off her look. Williams worked with longtime stylist Kesha McLeod to create the show-stopping ensemble.

As for her beauty look, she opted for a shimmering gold eye look, bronzed skin, and possibly the most perfect matte nude lip I have seen in a while. Her blonde hair was elegantly slicked back as it flowed down her back. The makeup came courtesy of her new makeup line, Wyn Beauty.

The winner of 23 Grand Slam titles is a Gala veteran. She first attended 20 years ago, in 2004, and even cohosted the annual fundraiser in 2019 alongside Harry Styles, Lady Gaga, and then-Gucci Creative Director Alessandro Michele. It's official: The greatest tennis player of all time has weighed in on Zendaya's new movie, Challengers.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight reporter Denny Direct, the Euphoria star revealed that after Serena Williams saw the film, she "definitely" knew the actors weren't using "real (tennis) balls."

"She knows," she added. "She's the best of the best."

While the stars of the film may not have been batting balls around like the real deal, Zendaya did say that she received the GOAT's stamp of approval.

"She did say that it was great considering that I had never, never touched a tennis ball before," she added.

Recently, Zendaya's stylist, Law Roach, posted a series of photographs on Instagram of the star in a black-and-white Carolina Herrera gown, recreating an iconic photo shoot with Venus and Serena Williams in 1998, shot by Annie Leibovitz for an issue of Vogue.

"An ode to the GREATS @venuswilliams @serenawilliams," stylist Roach captioned the post in part. "We thank you for all you have done!"

The creative director of Carolina Herrera, Ｗes Gordon, also re-shared the photos and thanked everyone involved for giving him the opportunity to pay homage to that iconic photo shoot featuring two of the greatest to ever play the game.

"Annie Leibovitz's iconic photo of Serena and Venus in Vogue's May 1998 issue in matching Carolina Herrera remains one of my favorite images," he captioned the slides. Not only has Zendaya received the Venus sisters' blessings in regards to her Challengers performance, the star shared that her parents are fans of her latest movie—something the star says she finds "hilarious" given some of the more sexual scenes throughout the film.

"They all know the rating of the movie. They know what it's about. They've been forewarned. And they've all seen Euphoria, so it's not like our first rodeo or anything," she said. "It was funny 'cause obviously I've seen the movie many times, so I know what's coming.

"They were all sitting behind me and I got to watch them watch and slowly just be like, 'Oh God,'" she added.

Zendaya and image architect Law Roach saved their most poignant Challengers press tour serve for last.

Days after the Challengers Los Angeles premiere, Roach shared two photos of his star client dressed to pay homage to an early Venus and Serena Williams Vogue photoshoot. Zendaya's look consisted of a square-neck Carolina Herrera gown with exaggerated black and white stripes, paired with shoulder-length beaded braids. It's a detail-for-detail replica of the Williams sisters' matching Herrera dresses for their 1998 editorial with photographer Annie Leibovitz.

On Instagram, Roach thanked Carolina Herrera creative director Wes Gordon for designing the replica gown. "An ode to the GREATS," he wrote, tagging Venus and Serena Williams. "We thank you for all you have done!"

To match Venus and Serena's 1998 hairstyles, Zendaya tapped Kimble Haircare for a custom wig which was then styled by Ursula Stephen. Longtime makeup artist Ernesto Casillas handled her strong eyeliner and glowy skin; he also took Zendaya's photos.

With their recreation, Zendaya and Law Roach gestured at a turning point for two of tennis's greatest-ever players. In 1998, Venus and Serena Williams were 17 and 16 years old, respectively. Their Vogue photoshoot also set the stage for a career-long relationship with fashion, which would take the sisters to the front rows of fashion week and into campaigns with major luxury and sportswear brands.

Zendaya's custom Carolina Herrera look concludes a four-week fashion marathon where no tennis reference was too literal. The actress embodied her character, Tashi Duncan, in everything from glittering Loewe tennis dresses to a string of Wimbledon white gowns by Louis Vuitton, Thom Browne, and Calvin Klein. The final premiere went in a different direction, pulling a deconstructed Vera Wang gown out of Roach's archives (perhaps to match with the pink and black color scheme of the Challengers carpet).

Tennis fashion is everywhere you look right now, from the polo shirts and pleated mini skirts on luxury runways to Zendaya's back-to-back-to-back red carpet serves on the Challengers press tour. Even when people aren't wearing Wimbledon white, they're thinking about it. Searches for "tennis fashion" have increased 80 percent in the past month, according to Data But Make It Fashion.

This rising interest isn't lost on Serena Williams, the greatest of all time where tennis and its dress codes are concerned. Before setting down her racket in 2022, Williams spent her 27-year career winning Grand Slam after Grand Slam in custom, convention-pushing outfits.

Back then, her fitted Nike dresses weren't common off the court. On the other side of retirement, "I feel that it's completely crossed over—and I've been trying to get that to cross over for a long time," she tells me.

Speaking with me at the Ritz Paris before walking the runway at Nike's Air Innovation Summit, Williams says she didn't set out to start a style revolution. But by wearing a black catsuit instead of a tennis dress, or swapping a starched white skirt for Y2k denim, she started a movement "without even trying."

"[S]eeing myself and my sister on the big stages of Wimbledon and the U.S. Open, being ourselves and wearing great outfits and looking our best, really changed women's sports—which is crazy," she says.

Williams set an example that athletes can bring their whole selves to their game: with or without makeup, in blinged-out uniforms or in functional, straightforward kits. The same mindset applies off the court. As a newly-minted beauty brand founder and the head of a venture capital fund, Williams still dresses in her favorite sport-inspired pieces. After all, tennis fashion was always a lifestyle for her—not a trend.

Ahead, Williams goes deep on the looks that transformed her career and how she's investing in the next generation of women's sports (and style).

Post-retirement, you've been investing in and mentoring up-and-coming talent. When you were still active in tennis, what was the first moment you felt like another athlete invested in you and your career?

I remember one person: Zina Garrison, who was a Black tennis player that I looked up to. [Venus and I] were under 10 and we went to Houston to meet her. First of all, that alone was a lot. If I were at the time she was in her career, it would have been very hard to set up a meeting with these two girls who were talking about making it.

But she spent time with us and she hit with us, too. And I remember thinking, Oh, I could beat her. (I couldn't even really hit with her—I was so little.) That always stuck with me. I was like, wow, that's really cool that she took out that time. I never forgot that.

Now, how are you paying it forward for other young women who are getting started in tennis? What does investing in them look like for you?

It's not just tennis, right? For me, it's more sport. Without even trying to, I was able to inspire a lot of women across all sports. That was really humbling for me and kind of cool at the same time.

For me, it's just talking to women and letting them know that it's okay to be confident. If you're confident in sport as a woman, you're "cocky." As a guy, you're "confident," you know?

What I can do is just pass on my information and encourage other women and inspire them and advise them in any way that I can. That crosses the line of tennis [into] everything that I've done in business.

I love what you said earlier about being an example or inspiration for others without necessarily trying to. I think that also comes through in your approach to style. What was a look that you wore that felt like a turning point in your mind—or gave you a feeling it would have an impact beyond your performance?

I mean, obviously, the cat suit [for the 2018 French Open]. That turned a lot of people on to watching tennis and it was the first time that had been done. Then I think another massive moment was the jeans—that was kind of crazy. I wore this incredible jean skirt and boots. Those two moments were huge.

Now you look at all these amazing women athletes, whether they're in basketball or another sport, they want to be glamorous on the court now, too.

When most people see us, they don't necessarily see us athletes, per se, in our everyday lives. They see us on the court or in the field or whatever we're doing. [Competing], that's our moment to really shine. That was my moment: I'm on stage, time to wear knee-high boots.

Where do you see your impact showing up in terms of sport and style, post-retirement?

I think women in particular are embracing that you can be strong and beautiful at the same time. Before as a lady athlete, you couldn't wear makeup or else you weren't taken seriously. And if you did, then it was like, "Oh, she's not a serious athlete and she won't be as good."

Now you can be strong, you can be beautiful, you can do all of that at the same time. I feel like that narrative, seeing myself and my sister on the big stages of Wimbledon and the U.S. Open, being ourselves and wearing great outfits and looking our best, really changed women's sports—which is crazy. But it definitely changed women's sports as a whole.

Also, [it's] in business. You can also look sexy and strong and still be a CEO of a company. I think that whole narrative is a huge conversation and it goes beyond sports at this point.

It's nice to see people working to remove those double standards so that everyone coming up behind them can feel like they can be more of themselves and bring their personality. And if you want to be glamorous, or if you don't, it's your choice.

I'm also curious about the ways that "tennis fashion" manifests outside of true sportswear. As someone who knows the sport so intimately, what do you think fashion gets right—or wrong—about tennis style?

Tennis style you can wear, and I think we're seeing this more and more nowadays that you can wear it anywhere. I literally live at home in my tennis skirt and I'm not even playing professional tennis anymore. It's so comfortable.

I see people walking down the street in what is a tennis dress, technically, but they're wearing it as fashion. I feel that it's completely crossed over and I've been trying to get that to cross over for a long time.

They're just really nice, comfortable dresses and they're easy to wear and if you're busy—don't even get me started. I like to multitask. You work out in it, you can go to school, and you can do all kinds of things.

I don't think you can do tennis fashion wrong. I think you can look back in 20 years and say, "Oh my God, you know, those shoulder pads were awful." But by the way, they're still hot and they're still cool and I happen to love shoulder pads. I don't think there's a wrong way to do fashion.

Speaking of crossovers, you're now working in so many different arenas these days: philanthropy, entrepreneurship, fashion, beauty. As you're venturing into new projects, or investing in them, what lessons learned as a full-time athlete prepared you best for the moment you're in now?

Well, hard work. As a full-time athlete, you have to dedicate your entire life to your sport. You have to be very selfish.

As an entrepreneur, you have to have the same attitude. Arguably an athlete works harder in a different way, because it's more physical and you're exhausted. So as an entrepreneur, I'm more mentally exhausted some days, but I'm physically okay. It's just different.

But that hard work, I think, is something that you can't skip because if you want to be the best in tennis, you have to work hard. If you want to be in the best in business, you can't just say, "Oh, I'm gonna be the best." You've learned that lesson that you learned from tennis. Like how did I win that Grand Slam? I worked two years to win that one Grand Slam. So, how do you get your best investment? I worked two years to get to that great investment. I think that I'm looking at it the same way.

It's not every day you get to spend some time with one of the best tennis players on the face of the planet... unless you're Prince William and Meghan Markle, that is.

On Friday, April 12, tennis legend Serena Williams was spotted hanging out with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex during the Royal Salute Polo Challenge at the Grand Champions Polo Club in Wellington, Florida.

According to People, Williams spent quality time with Markle while Prince Harry competed in the polo tournament—the two were photographed hanging out around some horses, laughing, taking a time-out on the back of a golf cart, hugging and, eventually, chatting up the Duke of Sussex.

All the while, the cameras were rolling as part of the former royal couple's upcoming Netflix show, centered around polo playing.

The Netflix series—one of two recently announced by Prince Harry and Meghan—will "pull the curtain back on the grit and passion of the sport, capturing players and all it takes to compete at the highest level," per a written statement.

The second series, according to Harry and Meghan’s Archewell Productions, is said to be curated by Meghan herself and will “celebrate the joys of cooking and gardening, entertaining and friendship,” Deadline reports.

Both Netflix projects are said to already be in the early stages of development.

Prince Harry founded the Polo Challenge charity benefit in 2006, with the aim of supporting children in Africa affected by inequality, poverty, and HIV/AIDS. The benefit is comprised of a series of events, including a dinner and panel discussion and a Sotheby's Sentebale Benefit Auction, which raised a total of $1 million for Sentebale.

The prince and his team competed at the benefit tournament in front of 300 people, People reports, and the Duke of Sussex even managed to score a goal.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle weren't afraid to show a little PDA while in attendance, either. When Markle—who wore a stunning ivory Heidi Merrick dress featuring a high neckline and large triangular cutout at the base of the bodice—presented the trophy to her husband, the pair shared a kiss on stage and to the joy of the crowd.

"They were very loving with each other," a person in attendance told People. "Meghan looked really happy. They held hands as they arrived and talked to everyone there. It was Harry's night to shine and Meghan was very supportive."

Serena Williams is aware she has appeared on more than one so-called "worst dressed list," and she has some thoughts.

"Listen, I think being on worst dressed lists is important,” Williams told People in a recent interview in celebration of the publication's 50th anniversary.

“I’ve loved every style that I've made and you know, you don't love them looking back all the time," she added, "but I appreciate them.”

The tennis legend and proud mom of two went on to say that she considers fashion to be "a way to express yourself and express your personality," in addition to expressing "who you are and what you are."

"Sometimes, the only way the world can see you is through your style," she continued. "And so for me, whether it's the best list or the worst dressed list, it's all kind of cool. Hey, at least I made a list."

Over 20 years ago, in 2003, the tennis superstar told People that she was again aware that she had been listed among some of the "worst dressed" celebrities a time or two.

“I’ve been on worst dressed lists and I don’t care," she told the publication at the time.

Clearly, not much has changed—in fact, Williams told People in this most recent 2024 interview that when it comes to fashion, the 2000s are “making a huge comeback.”

“Like, do I look through my closet?” she continued. “From back then, I don't think I have anything. Well, not much. I do keep things, but, you know, my body might not fit the same things that it fit in... back then."

In February 2024, Williams shared a candid postpartum bikini picture on Instagram along with an inspiring message about body acceptance and self-love.

"Loving yourself is essential. I find that I have to remind myself of that self-love through all different stages in my life," Williams captioned the post. "Right now I love that my body is not picture perfect. I love that I smell like milk—that milk sustains @adiraohanian I love getting to know a new version of my body. It is a change, but it’s a change that has been well worth it. So start this week, knowing that you are loved, and that starts with you."

While a lot has changed in over 20 years, and Williams has been open about her pregnancy and postpartum body and the various ways motherhood has changed her perspective, mindset and body, she says she has zero regrets about the fashion choices she has made—both past and present.

"I’ve had a lot of outfits. A lot of on court outfits, a lot of off court outfits. I've had some amazing, amazing red carpet looks,” she said. “I’ve had a lots of different looks, but you know what, you can't take any of it back. I'm leaning into all of them.”

Of all the ways someone could imagine meeting Serena Williams to discuss Wyn Beauty, her debut makeup collection, arriving soaking wet after getting stranded umbrella-less in a spring storm isn’t one of them. But there I was: standing in front of the 39-time tennis champion title holder, dripping water like I’d taken three consecutive rides on a log flume first. I tried it in two shades: "Spark," which has a vibrant candy apple red pigment, and "Sing," a subdued hue of nude pink. Both shades have a really nice satin finish that surprisingly lasted for hours, even while I ate dinner and sipped on a cup of tea. At one point, I even forgot that I had on lipstick—this formula is as lightweight as the name implies. Above all, though, my favorite quality is the hydrating and creamy texture. I didn't experience any dryness, which I often do after wearing lipstick (hence why I usually stick with chapsticks and glosses). That said, I'm happy to report that both shades have found a prime spot in my beauty cabinet."

"I tried Wyn Beauty's matte lipstick in two shades, 'Recite' and 'Brave,' and can honestly say that I love them both. 'Recite' is a deep mauve, consistent with the dark, nostalgic lipsticks I usually like to wear. However, when I'm as pale as I am right now (it's been a long winter), colors this deep can wash me out. This shade did nothing of the sort, complementing my medium skin and working well with any eye makeup looks, from neutrals to heavily contoured, glittery lids.

"'Brave' also left me pleasantly surprised: Bright pinks like this don't always show up on my already-pink lips, but this one was pigmented enough to make a difference. Plus, both lipsticks delivered all the matte full coverage and no-budge effects of a matte liquid lipstick, but without any of the lip dehydration. (One application survived a cup of coffee and a breakfast sandwich.) This formula is smooth and creamy to the touch, with such a lightweight feel that I often forget I have it on."

"The day I wore a (nearly) full face of Wyn Beauty started at 6:30 a.m. for a passport renewal appointment and ended at 9 p.m. at a bridal fashion week event. Tennis great and proud mom is opening up about the way she is teaching her two daughters body positivity.

"For me, it's super important for them to love who they are and whatever they look like," Williams told Entertainment Tonight's Rachel Smith at the launch of her makeup line Wyn Beauty in New York City.

"I also foster that positivity by encouraging them to give others compliments, especially other girls compliments," she continued. "So if I see a girl in their class, I'm like, 'Oh, she looks pretty, right?' She's like, 'Yeah, I like her hair.' I'm like, 'I like her hair, too.' So just kind of encouraging that, because it doesn't matter what they look like.

"If you can find something positive about them then you're also going to find something positive about you and then you're gonna win," she added.

Williams shares two daughters—Olympia, 6, and Adira, 7 months—with her husband, Alexis Ohanian.

In February, Williams shared a photo on Instagram of herself in a bathing suit holding baby Adira, along with a body positive caption that touched on what it's like to be a mom postpartum.

In a 2019 interview with Allure, Williams opened up about how pregnancy changed her body after she gave birth to her first daughter, Olympia.

“After I came out (of the hospital), I had a stomach, but I thought, This is kind of cool," she told the publication at the time. "I have a stomach because the baby was there.”

One year later, in 2020, Williams told British Vogue that she's "never been a person that has been like: 'I want to be a different color' or 'I want my skin tone to be lighter.'"

"I like who I am, I like how I look, and I love representing the beautiful dark women out there. For me, it's perfect. I wouldn't want it any other way," she said at the time. "When I was growing up, what was celebrated was different. Venus looked more like what is really acceptable: She has incredibly long legs, she's really, really thin. I didn't see people on TV that looked like me, who were thick. There wasn't positive body image. It was a different age."

Tennis great and mom-of-two Serena Williams is showing up and showing out at Paris Fashion Week.

Williams attended the Off-White Womenswear fall/winter show wearing a stunning, all-black bodycon dress with dramatic cutouts at the arms, wrists and legs. To complete the ensemble, Williams wore white fingernail polish, a small gold necklace, pointed-toe heels and her hair down and curled so that it perfectly frame her face.

Williams shared photos of her outfit and the event on Instagram, including a photo of her posting while sitting on a staircase and another close-up of her curled hair and chic, all-black sunglasses.

"Thank you for having me @off____white 🖤🤍" the tennis great captioned the post, along with the hashtag #VirgilForever in honor of the late designer Virgil Abloh.

Williams was close with Abloh, who passed away in 2021 after a 3-year battle with a rare form of cancer.

"It’s been a year and I still can’t put into words the sorrow that I feel," Williams wrote in a touching Instagram post in 2022 and in honor of Abloh. "Your touch on the world will live on forever and I couldn’t be more grateful to have witnessed it and had the chance to collaborate with you. I still miss you all the time. Forever and ever @virgilabloh."

Williams has also opened up in the past about one of her regrets when it comes to her friendship and working relationship with Abloh.

In a Vogue tribute video in honor of the late designer, the mom of two opened up about collaborating with Abloh for the French Open.

"I still kind of regret not doing what Virgil told me to do,” Williams said at the time. “He wanted me to wear, like, this long skirt with the crazy train and then a cape with a train, and then just walk out on the court.”

At the time, Williams said she confided in a longtime friend after Abloh made his suggestion, telling the friend that while she “loves fashion” and “pushing the envelope” she didn’t think she should wear the outfit Abloh had in mind.

“I’m thinking: ‘Virgil, I like fashion, and I like pushing the envelope, but this, I just don’t think I can do this,’” Williams said at the time.

It's safe to say that even though she might have some past regrets regarding her fashion choices, Williams is continuing to "push the envelope" and enjoy her love of fashion just as her late friend would have clearly wanted.

When it comes to style that's both modern and multidimensional, few can compete with Serena Williams. The tennis icon's off-court looks have varied between minimalist, sporty, and fully glamorous aesthetics over the years. However, there's always a playful and powerful air that makes Williams' outfits her own—much like her latest outing at Paris Fashion Week.

At Balmain's Fall/Winter 2024 womenswear show, Williams arrived at the Pavillon Cambon in a black knit dress that paid tribute to the classic rose with a floral motif. The sleeveless style featured a white-trimmed neckline and the aforementioned flower in a large central pattern, with an easygoing finish from a black overcoat draped over Williams' shoulders.

For a whimsical flair, Williams slipped on a pair of open-toed black leather sandals with squared toes and lattice-woven straps. Glossy leather rose accents gave the pair a dramatic edge, blooming outwards for a garden-worthy touch. Though the shoes certainly made a statement, they also brought a themed finish to Williams' neutral Olivier Rousteing-designed look—making her look decidedly "la vie en rose."

Williams' dress tapped into the rosette fashion trend that's blossomed in recent seasons. The 3-D floral motif has grown roots, seen on stars like Selena Gomez, Jennifer Lopez, Meghann Fahy, and Natalie Portman during awards and couture shows this year.

However, there's a more symbolic undertone to William's rosy moment. Historically, the flower is a symbol of courage, as well as beauty, romance, renewal, and honor—as evidenced by its presence in the cultures of Ancient Rome, France, and England, where it was used in fragrances, as decorations, and even love potions. In a more contemporary example, the Met Gala's 2024 theme highlights the flower's transformational nature.

Those values of bravery and courage hold true for Balmain, too: the French fashion house spotlit roses in its Spring/Summer 2024 collection, presented days after its runway show pieces were virally stolen last September.

Williams' embrace of the rose is a symbol of both her support for Balmain and Rousteing's legacy (the designer just celebrated his 12th anniversary as the label's creative director), as well as her own inner strength—after all, she's renowned as one of the best female tennis players of all time, with 23 Grand Slam Singles titles wins under her belt.

While dynamic, however, Williams' rose dress still hinted at the flower's subtler side—and winked at her own smart style, which we'll be monitoring as she makes the rounds during Paris Fashion Week.

Serena Williams is sharing a postpartum bikini picture and insight into her ongoing self-love journey.

On Monday, Feb. 12, the tennis superstar shared a picture of herself on Instagram wearing a white, two-piece bikini and holding her 5-month-old daughter, Adira while standing on a boat—the crystal-clear blue water of the Bahamas can be seen behind the mother-daughter duo.

What was even more special than another glimpse of the Williams-Ohanian household's latest addition was the message of self-love and body acceptance that Williams shared in the caption.

"Loving yourself is essential. I find that I have to remind myself of that self-love through all different stages in my life," she wrote. "Right now I love that my body is not picture perfect. I love that I smell like milk—that milk sustains @adiraohanian. I love getting to know a new version of my body."

Williams went on to write that being postpartum "is a change, but it’s a change that has been well worth it."

"So start this week, knowing that you are loved, and that starts with you," she continued. "OK, now I’m about to go to the gym."

Many fans were quick to gave Williams her flowers in the comment section for spreading such a body-positive, inspirational message to her more than 17 million followers.

"Serena-what if your body IS picture perfect??" influencer and body acceptance advocate Katie Sturino wrote. "You are smoking hot then and now!"

"I love EVERY word of this post. You are a stunning goddess," another fan commented. "Thank you for loving yourself. It helps us all do the same."

Williams' husband, Alexis Ohanian, posted a simple heart-eyes emoji in support of his wife.

The pair announced they were expecting their second daughter ahead of the 2023 Met Gala, where Williams wore a full, dramatic, pearl-encrusted Gucci gown that showed off her baby bump.

"Mama (@serenawilliams) & Papa love this parenting-thing, so we're back at it," proud dad Ohanian posted on Instagram, along with a picture of the pair in their 2023 Met Gala ensembles. "And @olympiaohanian is gonna be the best Big Sister—she's been asking & praying for this for a minute."

In a 2019 interview with Allure, Williams opened up about how pregnancy changed her body after she gave birth to her first daughter.

Serena Williams is a work in progress, and she's not afraid to let us know it. The mother of two took to Instagram to share "The Diary of a Denim Skirt," a video in which Williams is seen struggling to fit into a Valentino (you guessed it) denim skirt. The piece looks gorgeous, but Williams finds herself unable to pull it over her bottom. (Relatable.)

Williams narrates as she tries to pull the skirt up, explaining how she bought this designer item while pregnant with her second child, Adira River, who was born last August. Williams shared she hoped to wear the skirt by now.

"I got this cool Valentino skirt when I was pregnant and I was like 'I'm gonna be able to fit this when I don't have a belly,'" she said. 

But, as has happened to us all, the skirt wouldn't fit, and Williams acknowledges this to the camera: "I can't fit it," she said. "But this is my goal. Honestly, I should've been able to fit it by now, but I ran into some, um...I got distracted for about a month."

Rather than tearing up or being angry with herself about this, Williams laughed and said, "Houston, we have a problem."

It's so wonderful to see the compassion Williams offers herself in her postpartum journey.

"I feel like if I go to the gym and get fit, I'll be able to fit it in a month?" Williams asked viewers.

Rather than claiming she'll do some crazy diet or punish herself with exercise (as so many of us have done), Williams treats this as part of her journey, as she was already focused on building her strength and stamina.

Earlier this week, Williams shared a video of herself in the gym doing barbell squats.

The retired tennis champion captioned the video "I'm getting back into the swing of things."

As for the denim skirt chronicles, Williams put the skirt back in the cupboard "for now," and it's a wonderful reminder for viewers that this is okay. Clothes don't have to fit you, especially months after having a baby. Williams reminds us all to give ourselves grace.

Given that this is only "Part 1" of "The Diary of a Denim Skirt," we're hoping there is plenty more to come.

Serena Williams knows a thing or two about training with a sister. Now, she's imparting that wisdom onto her own daughters.

The tennis icon spent a little time Christmas morning helping daughter Olympia "train" her younger sister, Adira. The very sweet "workout" consisted of Olympia lifting Adira up by the arms and laying her back down, while Williams spotted and coached her through the movements -- in French, no less.

"We all work out in this family, " she captioned the photo.

Unsurprisingly, Olympia has plenty of sports savvy to share with her younger sister. She is already basically a tennis pro, soccer star and golf champ.

Physical fitness is important in the Williams / Ohanian household, but mental health is held in equally high regard. Back in November, Williams shared an important (and relatable) message to Twitter on a day she wasn't feeling her best.

"I am not ok today," she wrote. "And that’s ok to not be ok. No one is ok every single day. If you are not ok today I’m with you. There’s always tomorrow. Love you."

It looks like Williams may have also been inspired by her daughter's workout routine.. Just one day after Christmas, she posted a series of gym selfies.

Like mother, like daughters.

Serena Williams makes a point to destigmatize mental health conversations whenever she can, so when she had an off day on Tuesday, she decided to share it with her fans.

"I am not ok today," the tennis champion wrote on Twitter. "And that’s ok to not be ok. No one is ok every single day. If you are not ok today I’m with you. There’s always tomorrow. Love you."

In February 2022, Williams sat down for a chat with Prince Harry for BetterUp about mental fitness, showing how important the issue is to her.

Later that year, she gave a cover interview to Selena Gomez' mental health platform Wondermind, opening up about her own experiences.

"Mental fitness for me is just really learning to shut down," she said.

"You know, I did this years ago, before mental health was a topic on everyone’s mind. It was just like: Alright, I’m shutting myself down today. Just subconsciously it was something I’ve always done.

"And so now that I know that it is so important to put yourself first—especially mentally—I always have shut down moments. I have serious boundaries, and I don't let anyone cross those boundaries with my time.

"And it’s so bad ’cause I really don’t do anything for me. I’m terrible at that! I’ve said it time and time again: I’m working on it! But, more or less, at least prioritizing what I need to do, and then when I’m turned off, I’m turned off."

After welcoming her daughter Olympia, the tennis star also shared where she was at with her mental health.

"I read several articles that said postpartum emotions can last up to 3 years if not dealt with," she wrote at the time, before sharing a similar message to her recent one: "I’m here to say: if you are having a rough day or week--it’s ok--I am, too!!! There’s always tomm!" she concluded.

The couple announced the news on Instagram Tuesday, with proud dad Ohanian captioning a family photo “Welcome, Adira River Ohanian.” He continued “I’m grateful to report our house is teaming [sic] with love: a happy & healthy newborn girl and happy & healthy mama. Feeling grateful. @serenawilliams you’ve now given me another incomparable gift—you’re the GMOAT” (which we’re going to take a guess means “greatest mom of all time”).

He concluded his post “Thanks to all the amazing medical staff who took care of my wife & our daughter. I’ll never forget the moment I introduced @olympiaohanian to her baby sister,” referring to the couple’s first child, Olympia, born in 2017. In perhaps a nod to their new little one’s middle name, Ohanian wrote “Your peace would have been like a river, your well-being like the waves of the sea.”

The news initially was quietly shared to TikTok today, where Williams shared a video of her family sitting at a table, Olympia leaning on her as Ohanian types on a laptop in front of them. “Williams then gets up and says she’ll be right back and returns with a tightly swaddled newborn,” People reports. “Settling back in between her husband and daughter, both lean into her, looking at the infant in her arms. The video ends with Polaroid-style shots of the new family of four.” 

As excited as he and Williams were for their new baby’s arrival, “no one’s more excited than her,” Ohanian said, referring to big sister Olympia. “She’s been wanting this. She’s been praying and asking about this for quite some time, so she’s very ready.”

Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian just revealed the sex of their second baby—in a pretty fantastic way. People reports the couple employed a drone display to find out whether daughter Olympia will have a little brother or a little sister—and (spoiler alert) it’s a girl!

Williams arrived at her “baby shower-slash-gender reveal” party leaving no doubt that she was “team pink,” as she put it, wearing a pink and white skirt and top that accentuated her baby bump, People reports. 

“I’m a little nervous because I don’t have any contingency plan if it turns out to be a boy,” she said in a video of the party posted to YouTube yesterday.

The fete’s theme was “Our Next Great Adventure” and was decorated with a rainbow-colored balloon arch; the outdoor bash included dancing, a dunk tank, and “a whole lot of hugging as the hours whittled away,” People writes.

As for the drone display, Williams didn’t know it was going to happen: “Rather than the standard pink cake for a girl and blue cake for a boy, Ohanian ordered a yellow cake to throw off the tennis superstar,” People reports. 

“I’m doing this because I want to troll her and Olympia into thinking that this is the reveal of Jelly Bean,” he said, referring to the apparent pet name of baby No. 2. “She will cut into this cake and probably be disappointed and hopefully appreciate my troll. But we’ll see. I don’t know if she’s going to be professional about it. She might see this cake and come out, roll her eyes, and say, ‘This guy had one job and he gave me a god—n cake gender reveal.’ But we’ll see. There’s a reveal after the reveal.”

“Williams cut into the cake, saw that it was yellow, smiled, put it on a plate…and moved to smoosh it right into Alexis’ face,” People reports. 

“We are actually going to reveal Jelly Bean’s sex,” Ohanian said. “The way we’re going to do it, though, is with a little style and some spectacular lights.” He then asked the party’s DJ to play music and “draw attention to the heavens,” and, after some oohing and ahhing from the party’s guests, drones lit up the sky and spelled out “Girl!” As their guests applauded and cheered, the family of three shouted with joy.

Williams revealed her second pregnancy at the Met Gala in May and posted on Instagram “Was so excited when Anna Wintour invited the 3 of us to the Met Gala.” The news came after an essay she wrote for Vogue last year, where she shared her hopes of adding another child to her family. She opened up about how she “never thought about having kids” when she began her tennis career.

“There were times when I’ve wondered if I should ever bring kids into this world, with all its problems,” Williams wrote. “I was never that confident or comfortable around babies or children, and I figured that if I ever did have a baby, I would have people taking care of it 24/7.”

In the essay, in which she announced her decision to retire from professional tennis, Williams shared how Olympia prayed for a baby sister and often said she wanted to be a big sister. “In the last year, Alexis and I have been trying to have another child, and we recently got some information from my doctor that put my mind at ease and made me feel that whenever we’re ready, we can add to our family,” she wrote. “I definitely don’t want to be pregnant again as an athlete. I need to be two feet into tennis or two feet out.”

Williams said she was ready to step away: “The way I see it, I should have had 30-plus Grand Slams,” she wrote. “I had my chances after coming back from giving birth. I went from a C-section to a second pulmonary embolism to a Grand Slam final. I played while breastfeeding. I played through postpartum depression. But I didn’t get there. Shoulda, woulda, coulda. I didn’t show up the way I should have or could have. But I showed up 23 times, and that’s fine. Actually, it’s extraordinary. But these days, if I have to choose between building my tennis resume and building my family, I choose the latter.”

Serena Williams may be a tennis legend, but she’s really just like the rest of us trying to survive a summer heatwave. People reports that Williams—who is currently expecting her second child with husband Alexis Ohanian—posed with her five-year-old daughter Olympia on Friday and wrote on Instagram “Behind the scenes…On set in hot weather trying to look cool.” (She didn’t reveal what project she was on set for.)

“In the first photo, Williams peered off to the side while her daughter did the same with a smile,” the outlet reports. “She then looked into the camera with her arms up behind her head in the next snapshot. Her baby bump was visible under her form-fitting orange dress, while Olympia appeared to be wearing a white cover-up over a pink printed swimsuit.”

Williams also posted a golden hour selfie, accessorized with asymmetrical gold hoop earrings, her curls free flowing.

Williams has had a busy late spring and early summer already: After announcing that she is expecting her second child at the Met Gala on May 1, she went on a babymoon to Europe with Ohanian, Olympia, and her sisters Lyndrea Price and Isha Price. In some photos shared from the babymoon Williams captured Olympia striking poses in front of her parents and their friends wearing a two-piece pink outfit. “When your kid can’t stop posing,” Williams wrote on Instagram, adding the hashtags #babymoon and #2023.

Of course, as is the case with the release of any new princess movie, children are getting especially excited about everything Little Mermaid-related—including all the merch they can get their hands on.

Olympia Ohanian, the five-year-old daughter of Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian, is no exception.

The little girl's parents recently posted a video to Olympia's official Instagram page, in which they show her receiving a very special gift: a Little Mermaid doll in Halle Bailey's likeness.

Coincidentally, Olympia was wearing a pink dress featuring Disney princesses including Moana on it while unwrapping her present.

Once she realized who the doll looked like, she started jumping up and down uncontrollably while shouting, "yayyyy!!!"

She then screamed, "Thank you, Daddy! Thank you!" with Ohanian telling her, "Thank Mama too!"

Olympia then told her parents, "I never had a Little Mermaid doll before," with her dad telling her, "This is the most important one."

Finally, Olympia explained that she would bring her new doll to see the movie with her.

Fans thought this video was incredibly sweet, and told Olympia's parents as much.

"So sweet to see even though her parents can buy her anything she is so grateful and expresses that with so much cheer!" one person wrote, with many other people echoing the sentiment.

The one and only Kelly Rowland also said, "MY WHOLE HEART!!"

The tennis superstar posted two photos to Instagram in a body-con, sleeveless black dress with pink shoes, writing in the caption “CAUTION: Things are not always as they appear. I am seriously trying to figure out if the baby is in the front or…back…slide right #summer #italy #vacation.”

“In the first photo, Williams stood straight towards the camera,” People reports. “In the second photo, she turned with her side facing the camera, placing one hand under her bump to highlight her baby bump.” 

Before arriving on the red carpet at the Met Gala earlier this month, Williams shared a carousel of photos on Instagram of herself and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, where her baby bump was visible. “Was so excited when Anna Wintour invited the 3 of us to the Met Gala,” her caption read.

Williams and Ohanian are already parents to five-year-old daughter Olympia, and days after revealing her pregnancy, Williams posted a clip to Instagram that showed them telling Olympia the exciting news that she would be a big sister.

In true icon fashion, Williams’ second child made its red-carpet debut on one of fashion’s biggest nights, and while she wore a full, dramatic, pearl-encrusted gown designed for her by Gucci, which clearly paid homage to Karl Lagerfeld’s longtime love of the accessory. If there were two major trends this year at the Gala, they included black-and-white gowns and lots (and lots of pearls), and Williams nailed both in one single ensemble.
