So, imagine my surprise when Beckham traded a five-figure Birkin and towering heels for athleisure and rare Nike sneakers on June 25.

To say I didn't see this coming would be the understatement of the year. For context, not even a broken foot stopped Beckham from styling crutches with Alaïa slingbacks two years ago. But even Posh Spice keeps it casual every once in a while. Paparazzi spotted her off-duty gym outfit—a black tank top and matching leggings—outside a beauty salon in Notting Hill, London. Once my eyes landed on her Nike sneakers, I had to double-check it wasn't Sporty Spice beneath that baseball cap.

Beckham could've made one of her Hermès bags look right at home alongside athleisure. Errand runs haven't deterred the Hermès collector before. But believe it or not, she wasn't in a Birkin-carrying mood. Still, she couldn't leave the house without at least one rare accessory. She chose Nike Air Max 1s in a limited-edition "Olympic" color combination, released specifically for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

Last September, when the Ôrebella founder first twirled around L.A. in these Vivaia sneakers' suede gray uppers and white nylon sidewalls, they were $159. Now, the Prime Day powers that be should take a bow: Hadid's ballet sneakers are $135.15.

Last March, Hadid doubled up on rehearsal-ready pieces with an oversize Saint Laurent bomber jacket and the capri pants trend. For Prime Day, you can style them the Bella Hadid Way for $121.64. That's over 20-percent-off, people.

Days later, Hadid touched down at Paris Fashion Week in the black Cristina ballet sneakers. That time, the supermodel gave them the French girl treatment with flared jeans and a croc-embossed tote from Saint Laurent.

It seems Vivaia is feeling generous this Prime Day. One year after Charli xcx flaunted the Yanka Sneakerina in New York City, they plunged from $159 to $127.20. The elasticized, bow-tied flats are very similar to the Cristinas, except with slightly shorter vamps. That way, the suede-and-satin shoes mirror the shape of loafers instead.

Vivaia's catalog isn't just a stockpile of sneakerinas. Katie Holmes is a staunch supporter of the brand's ballet flats. (That's a high honor coming from the New Yorker with endless grab-and-go options.)

A few months ago, she sampled spring's white maxi skirt trend alongside the $129 Margot 3.0 Flats. Beige cap-toes, V-shaped vamps, and woven gridlocked sidewalls set them apart from the black leather ballerinas on her shoe rack. Plus, her exact color combination is marked down to $109.65 for Prime Day. Talk about a win-win.

Vivaia came out swinging for Prime Day. With all of these sales, the brand could completely revamp your summer shoe collection—as well as Hadid's, Holmes's, and Charli's. If Vivaia is anything like Coach, they won't be this reasonably priced for long. Anything with Hadid's name on it could sell out faster than you can say, "sneakerina."

Bright and early on June 17, WNBA fans could tell Caitlin Clark had something up her sleeves. First, she changed her Instagram handle to @Caitlin1, then her profile pic to Nike's logo. Turns out, that zoomed-in silver Swoosh belonged to Clark's first-ever Nike sneaker, named the Caitlin 1.

Two years after Clark signed an eight year, $28 million contract with Nike (the highest value contract ever floated to a WNBA player at the time), they made their partnership official with court-to-street sneakers. Over a decade of basketball experience set a high standard for the Caitlin 1s. She's also dreamt of having her own shoe "for as long as I can remember," according to a press release. So, she gave Nike a checklist. The sneakers had to support "speed, range, and unpredictability," and look cool while in action, of course.

Clark and Nike formed "a true partnership" while designing the rippled exterior, springy foam midsoles, and low-profile treads. Athletes will agree with the point guard: They "crushed it." Clark wanted her signature shoes to match the "fast, confident, and ready to let it fly" energy she's always had on the court. "They listened to every detail, and the innovation is designed for my game," she said. "Seeing the finished product for the first time will forever be a core memory."

To tackle the "unpredictability" challenge, Nike and Clark created Nike Opticast, which aims to "reduce drag and enhance movement efficiency." This new performance technology isn't hidden deep inside the sneaker's silhouette. See all of those itty-bitty bumps atop the toe boxes, sidewalls, and supportive ankles? That's what makes the Opticast the Opticast. Hundreds of C-shaped nodes add texture to 90-percent of the shoes, while each monogrammed tongue, ombré blue-to-mauve sole, and silver Swoosh remains untouched.

It's unclear why Clark chose such a rich shade of royal blue. Indiana Fever's team colors are strawberry red and white, plus navy blue and lemon yellow on occasion. She also wore black and gold while playing for Iowa University. Regardless, they're still an on-brand shade for the athlete. In fact, she's always selected Nike sneakers that help her stand out on the court.

Before the Caitlin 1s were born, Clark made the Kobe 5 and 6 Proto model her signature shoe. The night before the news broke, she defeated the Toronto Tempo in a custom pink, yellow, and green gradient Kobe 6 sneakers. Turns out, they were inspired by Taylor Swift's Eras Tour.

"Obviously, you guys know I'm a big fan of Taylor and the Eras Tour," Clark revealed in the post-game conference room. "The Eras Tour was the best concert of all time, so that's why I like the thought behind these." They felt reminiscent of Swift's pastel Roberto Cavalli skirt sets during the 1989 section of her shows.

On June 14, Richie Grainge shared her latest "postcard from Tokyo" on Instagram, featuring Bermuda shorts, heeled flip-flops, and other summer trends. Last week's Prada ballet sneakers traded places with equally slim It shoes from Adidas's May 2026 collaboration with Australian menswear label Song for the Mute.

Marking their seventh partnership since Aug. 2022, Adidas and Song for the Mute reunited to reimagine the Samba and Tokyo models. The Samba LX Freizeits stand twice as tall as the Sambas on Sophie Turner, Hathaway, and Jennifer Aniston's shoe racks. The month-old Tokyos, on the other hand, stay true to their ballet sneaker roots—and soles.

Originally created for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, the lightweight runners returned with textured beige nylon sidewalls and ruched ankles. Distressed suede in stark white or black, criss-cross slashes set each T-toe box and ankle apart from previous pairs. Traditional gumsoles seen on J.Law and Rodrigo's Tokyos were replaced with slipper-like, crêpe rubber treads.

To finish, Adidas and Song for the Mute turned the sportswear label's signature serrated stripes butter yellow. Perhaps the color trend's unexpected appearance influenced Richie Grainge (a staunch Samba supporter since 2023) to switch. The $150 shoes are also available in classic Samba shades like black and white or blue and white.

Richie Grainge shade-matched her Adidas stripes to butter yellow linen pants. She styled the wide-leg, drawstring bottoms with a basic black top, much like Gigi Hadid's date night outfit in New York City last week. Next, she tied a cardigan in the strawberry red color trend around her waist. Between her buttery pants, strawberry sweater, and low-profile Adidas sneakers, Richie Grainge declared herself the blueprint for Summer 2026 styling.

It seems the SRG founder spent her second pregnancy stocking up on sneaker trends. Snakeskin ballet sneakers and Adidas Tokyos proved she was more than ready to join Japan's off-duty fashion circuit.

It's no surprise Adidas's latest designer collaboration won her over, though. Two years ago, the brand's Wales Bonner Sambas became Richie Grainge's signature pregnancy shoes. I'm not surprised Hailey Bieber has what it takes. She just endorsed the white sneaker trend revival again, with a designer collaboration worth facing my "What if I stain them?" fears.

Bieber started summer 2026 in slim sneakers from her husband's streetwear brand, Skylrk. Their 3-D-printed sidewalls were nowhere to be found during her coffee run on June 9, though. The Rhode founder looked fresh from a workout class in a black long-sleeve, matching biker shorts, and a bright green scrunchie. If it wasn't for her white socks-and-sneakers set, Bieber might've blended in with the Beverly Hills crowd while ordering her coffee. Both the sneakers' blinding shade and trend-defying silhouette made her unmissable.

Bieber's take on the chunky sneaker trend shined so bright, it was difficult to ID. Her pair seems to be from Fall 2023's Nike x Comme des Garçons collab, the latest chapter in a partnership beginning back in 1999. Named the Homme Plus x Nike Air Pegasus 2005, these specific sneakers hit shelves in all-white or all-black.

Mesh uppers, leather Swoosh-topped sidewalls, and textured rubber soles made them the sportiest style in Bieber's white sneaker collection. The $900 sneakerinas she debuted last April looked more like ballet slippers, except with high vamps and Miu Miu branding.

Yes, Bieber's Miu Mius worked for everyday errands or Pilates classes. But what about her more intense athleisure looks? The Nike x Commes de Garçons sneakers could support her from start to finish during a Spincycle session.

I haven't seen Bieber wear the Nike x Comme des Garçons sneakers out and about before. Judging by their cool-dad charm, I would've expected her to be first in line during the 2023 launch. Instead, she's been building up to the Pegasus 2005 trainers with similar anti-slim styles. Best-selling models from Asics and New Balance stood just as stout as her newest pair. None of them—not even the New Balance 740s—were completely colorless, though. Metallic trim or colorful logos always made the final cut.

By April 2026, Bieber dipped her toe into white sneaker styling with ballet sneakers, a low-profile shoe trend she trusted. I suspected her white sneaker marathon would continue from there. Reviving 2025's pro-chunky stance was certainly a surprise, though.

The slightly oversize style featured traditional lapels and a few undone buttons, but no belt. She closed its single-breasted bodice herself, hiding a white, pinstripe button-down underneath.

Baggy, chocolate-brown trousers emerged from beneath the trench's calf-grazing hem. Then, Palvin traded mom-approved sneaker trends like Puma Speedcats or New Balances for a Converse-coded pair from Autry.

Senior fashion news editor Halie LeSavage probably wouldn't add my 2026 Met Gala outfit to her best-dressed list. But being comfier than her favorite red carpet dresses is still a win in my book. Last night, I traded the "Fashion Is Art" dress code for something more akin to Amanda Seyfried's jeans outfit and Adidas sneakers on May 5.

Seyfried isn't new to the Met Gala schedule. She's been "Cinderella-ing" out of ballgowns and into off-duty outfits for five Met Mondays now. Her "Fashion Is Art" run began in a custom drop-waist Prada dress, which helped pioneer last night's powder pink red carpet trend. The ballgown also reimagined that iconic Mean Girls quote, "on Wednesdays we wear pink," because who could wait two days to debut its thick, regal ruffles?

I've been known to sleep in my jewelry after a fabulous night out, but then again, I'm no Met Gala mainstay. By the next morning, Seyfried's Tiffany & Co. diamonds returned to their rightful blue boxes, right alongside her platform Prada pumps.

Seyfried wasted no time giving her soles a break from 4.5" heels. She was the first Met Gala guest to check out of The Surrey, the five-star hotel hosting Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner a stone's throw away from the red carpet. Casual yet cool was her dress code for the morning after, judging by her slightly-oversize, pinstripe button-down, vintage Silver Jeans, and SL 72 OG sneakers from Adidas's March 2025 collaboration with Liberty London.

The Emmy winner's straight-leg jeans helped endorse a 2026 denim trend: two-tone washes. The bottoms were mostly sky-blue, before bands down both legs added indigo to the color palette.

Seyfried's year-old trainers aren't as easy to ID as say, Adidas Sambas. But both sidewall's stark-white, trio of stripes confirmed they're the half-heightened, half-slim Sl 72 Og Sneakers, which Elle Fanning, Nina Dobrev, and Emily Ratajkowski own, too.

What sets the Mamma Mia star's sneakers apart from the others—besides Adidas x Liberty London tags—is a patent floral pattern atop each upper's matte black foundation. Plus, emerald green suede lined the monogrammed heels and high-low soles. For Sambas, your only options are translucent tan or dark brown treads. That's it.

Black and white Adidas sneakers were a smart choice, because they matched Seyfried's Prada Bonnie Bag without steering clear of spring styling.

Contrary to the 2025 Met Gala, where Chris Rock, Joe Burrow, and Dapper Dan ascended those iconic stairs in sneakers, the It-shoe was noticeably absent from last night's red carpet. Sneaker sightings were scarce on the after-party scene, too.

Jeans, on the other hand, ended up in Margot Robbie's Met Gala garment bag. The Barbie actor traded a custom gold Chanel gown for an after-hours silhouette similar to Seyfried's. She styled them with a metallic jacket, a white T-shirt, and a strawberry-red clutch, all from Matthieu Blazy's recent shows.

Now that jeans have been normalized at Met Gala affairs, it's only a matter of time before sneakers join the "allowed items" list, too. By next year, they might even make the best-dressed list after all.

Last month, Zendaya designed her own windbreaker with On. Weeks later, fashion search engine Lyst crowned the trend Q1's "Hottest Product." See? Her style spidey-sense is worth trusting. Saint Laurent's windbreaker technically took first place on Lyst's report, but on April 30, Zendaya proved her rendition has major "hot" item potential.

After wearing a spring color combination at husband Tom Holland's Wednesday tennis tournament, Z zoomed from L.A. to On's SoHo, NYC store. Rumor has it, she was filming another ad for the Swiss brand—in the sportswear she and stylist Law Roach co-designed. She re-styled an outfit from the original campaign, beginning with the $250 Half-Zip Anorak.

The oversize, quarter-zip jacket combines a black base with a preppy, extra-large white stripe across the middle. With that palette alone, the windbreaker pays homage to Zendaya's favorite red carpet trends from The Drama's press run the black-and-white color combination. Finishing touches like a drawstring hood, elasticized cuffs, and a bungee-corded hem made the pullover just as practical as it is cool-girl-coded.

Zendaya is the latest fashion girl to face April showers with the windbreaker trend in tow. Charli xcx, Lily Allen, and Alexa Chung have all elevated the sporty layer this spring, as well as Hailey Bieber and Zoë Kravitz at last September's Saint Laurent show. However, the Euphoria actor is the first star to take it into her own hands. Perhaps Bieber will be inspired to give it the Skylrk treatment—she did so with the leather bomber jacket trend, after all.

The comeback coat isn't just VIP-beloved, though. In March, Marie Claire editors fell for Uniqlo's under-$100 windbreaker, courtesy of an ongoing collaboration with JW Anderson. Technically, it belongs in the men's section, but that "borrowed-from-the-boys mentality" is exactly what got fashion e-commerce editor Julia Marzovilla to swipe her card.

Back to Z's 'fit: Her On selects didn't stop there. Why would they? She's proud of her designs, and rightfully so. It seems she stacked the windbreaker over On's $170 Parachute Pants—an identical recreation of one of her campaign looks. The black bottoms were just as baggy as her anorak, but adjustable bungee cords around her waist added just as much shape.

Finally, the familiar, burgundy toe-box of Zendaya's Cloudnova Moon sneakers returned. On's contribution to the ballet sneakers trend is just as slim and glove-like as actual ballet slippers. The "Fig Fig" color sold out in minutes, a common side effect of Zendaya's approval. But the all-black shade—featuring the same, criss-cross elastic laces—is still shoppable.

If barn jackets or trench coats are too posh for your sporty side, stand out in a two-tone windbreaker. Or, take cues from Zendaya and wear all three outerwear trends this season and beyond.

No Frankenshoe trend is too freaky for Jennifer Lawrence, especially in the sneaker department. For instance, the New York It girl can't stop, won't stop adding Mary Jane sneakers to her shoe rack. Her newest hybrid trainers may have sprinted down West Village sidewalks on April 28, but she's been repping similar styles for years.

Lawrence endorsed a rising It-shoe almost every day this month, but her sneaker trend marathon couldn't end without her favorite silhouette. The Salomon collector traded last year's hiking sneakers for Mary Janes—or rather, Marie-Jeannes, according to the French footwear label.

Rubber, stark white soles beneath mesh, single-strapped uppers were just as supportive as Salomon's trail-proof treads. But these had elevated extras, like lush beige suede around the outer sidewalls.

The Marie-Jeannes may be new to J.Law's spring closet, but 4.5-star customer reviews suggest they could be steps away from It-shoe status. Plus, like Lawrence, Salomon has been pro-Mary Jane sneakers for years. The brand collaborated with Sandy Liang on the first Marie-Jeannes in 2023. Now, with an ivory, almost-platform pair in her collection, it's obvious no two Mary Jane sneakers are the same. "It’s no surprise to see that, in 2026, her faith in the shoe trend hasn’t wavered—if anything, it reiterates what I've long known to be true: Lawrence’s foresight into fashion trends is right on the money," Childs tells me. The Mary Janes enthusiast is shopping just intentionally enough, while still fueling her footwear fixation.

Kendall Jenner brought back Adidas Superstars; Lily Collins endorsed Hardball Spezials as the next rich-mom staple; and on April 26, Michelle Obama's rare Adidas sneakers put the "Japan" model on the map.

The former First Lady arrived in New York City wearing trainers not yet appreciated en masse by locals. Lipa's enviable sneakers have returned for 2026, with the singer's endorsement likely to send resale values soaring.

In an Instagram post shared on Saturday, April 25, the "Levitating" singer revealed a number of recent outfits, one of which included the sold-out Nike x Jacquemus Moon Shoe Sneakers. Lipa accessorized the in-demand footwear with a Palace x Schott NYC Spring 2026 Sweatshirt, a Chrome Hearts Stearling Western Belt, and a Hailey Bieber-approved purse—Chanel's 2026 Maxi Flap Bag, which retails for $8,500.

Additional accessories included a pair of Gucci Gg2170S 0-003 Sunglasses, two Bvlgari Serpenti Viper Rings, a $7,300 Bvlgari B.zero1 Ring, and a $23,200 Bvlgari Serpenti Two-Coil 18 Kt Rose Gold Ring.

In the same Instagram post, Lipa could also be seen wearing Burberry's Seafoam Green Cotton Canvas Fitzrovia Trench Coat, which retails for $3,150.

Rihanna started styling tiger print in January, right around the time her loungewear label, Savage x Fenty, released its take on the pattern trend. She didn't sample her design's furry stripes until April 15—and by then, she couldn't resist adding another apex predator print to the mix.

Three days after landing in New York City (Dior Dracula Book Tote in tow), Rihanna re-wore her favorite pattern around Brooklyn. She snatched Savage x Fenty's $89.95 Contrast Stitch Fleece Hoodie for the occasion. Traditional orange-and-black tiger stripes traded places with cool-toned shades of navy, gray, and sky blue. The same "Dark & Stormy" color combination stretches onto matching sweatpants, but Rihanna opted for baggy jeans instead. I've been taking notes, and now that the new season has finally arrived, I've got a good idea of the trending sneakers at Nordstrom to shop this spring.

For starters, the latest It sneakers feature a retro slimmed-down silhouette, but are big on personality. Think: spring-ready pastel colors (like cool blue!), metallic accents, and shiny constructions. There are a few chunkier outliers, of course, such as the celebrity-favorite styles from Salomon and New Balance. But it doesn't matter if you're a minimalist or a maximalist, spring's top sneakers have something for every personal style.

Consider the list ahead as your primer on the only sneaker styles that matter this season. With pairs at every budget from top sneaker brands like Adidas, Puma, and Vans, Nordstrom is your one-stop shop for fresh spring kicks.

A few months ago, I reported on the rise of silver accents as one of spring's most in-demand sneaker trends. Now, as we head into warmer weather, it seems I got one thing wrong in my story—Silver was trending, yes, but not just as an accent. All-over silver sneakers are now everywhere, signaling the official end of copy-paste quiet luxury.

There was a time not that long ago when, if you wanted to look chic, all you had to do was pick up a pair of all-white sneakers. But this year, fashionable insiders are breaking free from the quietly luxurious constraints that have been so popular since we emerged from the pandemic. 2026's biggest sneaker trends have shown that personal style is back, at least in the footwear department. Satin ballerina-inspired pairs and ultra-functional gorpcore-y styles are bubbling up, so why not play with other textures?

Silver sneakers, with their unabashedly bold look, are an obvious next choice—just look at the runways at buzzy brands like New York City-based label Private Policy for proof of concept. Call it the rise of whimsical fashion or just plain excitement for something different in the athletic footwear category, but they're here to stay.

It seems that iconic sportswear brands like Adidas, Nike, and Puma have clearly taken note of the shift. Several of the new launches from each brand come in the new hue. The available options run the gamut from ultra-slim styles (a forever staple, in my opinion) to chunkier editions made for actually working out in.

New Balance sneakers would make a stellar baby shower gift—not just because of their wide toe-boxes, supportive arches, and non-slip soles. They're becoming an wardrobe essential for cool pregnant women, from Jennifer Lawrence to, now, Aubrey Plaza.

On April 8, not long after People exclusively confirmed she is expecting her first child with partner Christopher Abbott, Plaza joined New York City's maternity style scene in a bump-covering, navy blue coat over gray sweatpants and—you guessed it—chunky New Balance sneakers. White-and-beige rubber soles stood out against each upper's warm-toned brown suede; a monogrammed "N" atop each sidewall appeared a few shades brighter than the chestnut-esque base.

New Balances are a staple in stylish women's closets, whether they're expecting or not. Hailey Bieber, Selena Gomez, Ana de Armas, and Kaia Gerber all love them, though they prefer more versatile color combinations like black and white, gray and beige, or silver and ivory this year.

This time last year, Jennifer Lawrence stuck to similar sneaker-forward uniforms while pregnant with her second child. Just like Plaza, she went for more unique New Balance color combinations, like butter yellow, silver, and green, from the Boston brand's 2019 collaboration with Aimé Leon Dore. I knew Zendaya and On were up to something on March 31, when Law Roach posted a close-up of Z in never-before-seen sneakers on Instagram. What I didn't know was that she actually co-designed the kicks with On as part of their first full-blown collaborative collection.

A week after the mysterious sneak peek, On dropped its latest campaign starring Zendaya (she's been a face of the brand since June 2024). In it, she wears retro sportif styles she helped create—her first apparel assortment as part of her ongoing partnership with the activewear brand—which she described in a statement as "pieces that feel versatile and easy to wear." There's also the Cloudnova Moon, On's take on the ballet sneaker trend and the third shoe Zendaya and Roach have worked on with On, joining last year's Cloudzone Moon and the Cloudzone Tilt.

The Cloudnova Moon comes in four shades. It has the same low-profile, glove-like nature of ballet shoes, only with perforated mesh from toe-to-heel. In lieu of laces, Zendaya and Roach went with elasticized, criss-cross velcro straps.

When Zendaya first signed with On in 2024, she told Vogue, "People don’t really know On as well for their clothes." That changes with this drop, which includes T-shirts, tanks, trousers, shorts, and even skirts she co-designed.

"We started with the idea of making people feel confident and effortless, and we built everything out from there," she said, in the statement.

It seems Z especially loves how the outerwear turned out, having worn the barn jacket-adjacent topper—dubbed the Coach Jacket—in two campaign looks. (I recognized its khaki collar from last week's IG post. Did you?) She also tapped into the windbreaker trend with the Half-Zip Anorak, which is available in two color combinations that perfectly complement her ballet sneakers.

Roach, Zendaya's longtime image architect and collaborator, even makes an appearance in the campaign, posing alongside his muse in the collection's drawstring, camel-colored pants and the two-tone windbreaker.

He also plays a role in the corresponding campaign film directed by Spike Jonze. Titled "Shape of Dreams," the three-minute video captures Z and Roach in a fantastical, On-filled dreamscape, where the collection's navy, camel, and ivory sportswear shape-shifts against a color-less backdrop.

You can definitely see how Zendaya's minimalist style impacted the designs: Every outfit felt like something she would wear in real life, specifically the Bermuda shorts and ballet sneakers. (She wore similar ones before Jimmy Kimmel Live! three weeks ago, and sneakerinas were a staple in her London closet last summer.)

After months spent cooped up in my apartment, I'm heading on a two-week dream getaway around Europe. As the type of traveler who has to see anything and everything on vacation, I need comfortable shoes that can withstand hours of walking (read: more than 20,000 steps a day). After much consideration (and even some testing on the streets of New York City), I've landed on the four styles I'm bringing with me.

It should come as no surprise that most of the shoes on my packing list are sneakers, or at least sneaker adjacent. The trending styles I've picked from Puma and New Balance offer both style and plenty of comfort while still looking cute. My shoes need to carry me from a museum tour straight to dinner, so they need to be the perfect combination of cute and comfortable—and yes, I've found a pair of chunky sneakers that fit the bill. I'm also bringing along ballet flats from Rothy's to add some diversity to my rotation.

Adidas Samba Jane Sneakers

After watching the steady rise of ballet sneakers over the last couple of seasons, I finally caved and bought a pair—and I couldn't be happier with the Adidas style I chose. I've stepped out in my Mary Janes plenty of times ahead of my vacation, and every time I do, I've received compliments. They look especially cute with barrel pants and baggy jeans, and I plan on wearing them with spring dresses when I return from my trip. And yes, they're just as comfy as your usual pair of sneakers.

New Balance 740 Sneakers

I know chunky dad sneakers are quietly on their way "out" in favor of slimmer silhouettes, but hear me out: The New Balance 740 style is the most comfortable pair I own. The extra padding on the soles makes them the perfect choice for long days spent walking down cobblestone streets. I'll be wearing them on the airplane with sweatpants, and then with jeans or chic linen pants when I land. It doesn't hurt that they come with Hailey Bieber's stamp of approval, too.

Rothy's The Square Mary Janes

I know I'll need at least one pair of dressier shoes for dinners and evenings, but I also know that kitten heels won't last on Italy and Greece's cobblestone streets. So, I'm packing my favorite Rothy's shoes: the Square Mary Janes as an alternative. I can confidently say they live up to their hype as the most comfortable flats out there. A simple black colorway and round-toed silhouette make them easy to dress up or down. The fact that I can pop them in the washer at my Airbnb is a huge bonus, too.

Puma Speedcat Metallic Sneakers

My personal style leans toward minimalism, so I'm not really a fan of trendy colors. However, I've decided to add a pair of "fun" shoes to the mix—and I've landed on metallic Puma Speedcat sneakers. Not only are they a favorite among A-listers like Rihanna and Jennifer Lawrence, but the shiny silver hue is a major spring sneaker trend. When I team them with my minimalist basics, I'll feel like a true fashion girl.

Other Comfortable Shoes I Considered

If I had unlimited room in my suitcase, I would have packed these pairs. From the ultra-slender Adidas Tokyos to the Dakota Johhnson-approved Nike V2K Runners, these are the sneakers I wear on a weekly rotation around New York City.

Don't be surprised if Martha Stewart is the next celebrity to break a sweat at Alo Yoga's invite-only Beverly Hills gym. On April 4, the lifestyle mogul did her best Hailey Bieber impression in a matching sweatsuit from the influencer-beloved brand. Could it be enough to secure a reformer at the exclusive Pilates studio?

Pre-Easter errands called for something comfy yet chic, and the creamy matching set from Alo fit the bill. Stewart chose a boxy rollneck classic crewneck with similarly oversized waffle-knit sweatpants in the same eggshell hue, which would've set her back $276.

Stewart's neutral color story continued in the footwear department. Like Bieber, she styled her sweatsuit with sneakers—except, instead of the Rhode founder's preferred New Balances or Filas, Stewart went with a slip-on pair from Merrell. The $120 trainers mirrored the general look of clogs (an emerging Spring 2026 shoe trend among A-listers), except with breathable mesh uppers, gridded rubber soles, and elasticized collars.

Removable, extra-cushioned insoles gave Stewart more arch support than, say, the wooden clogs on Anne Hathaway's shoe rack. Plus, they'd fit in at the brand's famed gym, no questions asked.

Style muses of all ages and aesthetics have boarded the Alo bandwagon. Stewart's been on it since at least 2022: "Thank heavens for my beautiful Alo Yoga two piece tops and leggings," the author wrote on Instagram four years ago, filming cooking tutorials in an icy blue long-sleeve and the matching metallic leggings. (That time, she gave laces a go with Hoka's taupe Bondi L sneakers, which also offered plenty of arch support.)

Given her longstanding support of the It-girl-beloved brand, you'd think Stewart would've stopped by an Alo gym of her choosing by now. Her closet is stocked with enough exercise options to keep up with its celebrity clientele, including Kaia Gerber, Kylie Jenner, and Tate McRae. Luckily for us, an invitation isn't required to channel Stewart's laid-back look.

Kaia Gerber and Hailey Bieber both became New Balance sneakerheads in 2019: the former with chunky 990s, and the latter with sleek 501s. Seven years later, both It girls still add fresh models to their New Balance collections. For proof, just see Gerber rejecting the ballet sneaker trend with Bieber's beloved 530 sneakers on April 1.

Paparazzi captured Gerber after an acting class in West Hollywood, but she would've fit in at Bieber's workout class earlier that morning. The Palm Royale actor wore all-black athleisure—a cozy black jacket zipped over matching leggings—before her New Balance 530s brightened up the color story. Following in the footsteps of Bieber's latest white sneakers, Gerber chose New Balances with snow white mesh, metallic silver curvatures, and chunky, off-white soles—all punctuated by the "N" logo embroidered on the sidewall.

The $110 530s seem to be Gerber's first New Balance sneakers since 2023, when the simpler 990 was still her signature pair. Perhaps seeing Bieber in an almost-identical make and model last summer influenced her migration back from On sneakers. Given the ballet sneaker trend's resurgence, I might've pegged Gerber for a sneakerina girl. But now, she's giving the extra-padded silhouettes of yester-summer another chance at stardom.

This year, Bieber's been so busy endorsing shoe trends like white sneakers, hiking sneakers, heeled flip-flops, and high-vamp heels, she hasn't had much time to re-wear her New Balance 530s. But they could return any day now.

The anti-slim shoes have been MIA since her June 2025 trip to New York City. Then, the Rhode founder styled the circa-1992 sneakers like Gerber: with leggings and a black designer bag. (Bieber's is the belted tote from her favorite flip-flop label, Toteme.) New Balance's 12 color combinations all but confirmed another A-lister would follow her lead someday. Who knew it'd be as devoted a sneakerhead as Gerber?

The New Balance 530s aren't the only It-sneakers tying Gerber and Bieber together. They're also owners of the 550, 574, 990, and 740s. Whether you gravitate toward Gerber's literary look, or Bieber's cool-girl glamour, you can't go wrong with any of the New Balances below.

I'm convinced I wouldn't have graduated from college without the white sneaker trend. Back in the day, Nike Air Force 1s took me to class, the dining hall, and every off-campus party in between. On April 1, my morning class outfit formula's go-to shoe officially came back—but this time, with Hailey Bieber's designer twist.

Before returning to her L.A. gym, the Rhode founder ditched the hiking sneakers trend she wore on March 30 for a never-before-seen Miu Miu pair. She's consistently styled Miuccia Prada's trainers since 2024, even navy, beige, and burgundy versions of her latest low-profile pair. But these $900 ballet sneakers were crafted from snow white leather, including the curved toe boxes and laces. Their extra-padded heels and tongues boasted Miu Miu's emblem in black. Beneath each toe, the logo blended in with rubber gumsoles. On top, Bieber stacked a heather gray tee beneath a black windbreaker and matching, micro-mini shorts.

My college campus wasn't the only place where the white sneaker trend took hold. Most It-sneakers in mid-2010s street style were white from toe-to-heel, including Adidas Stan Smiths, Vans Old Skools, and Nike Air Force 1s, of course. Bieber, Sofia Richie Grainge, and Kendall Jenner led the Air Force 1 charge, usually in skinny jeans, cropped pants, or leggings. Meanwhile, Stan Smiths were the glue that held 2016's celebrity street style scene together. Everyone from Bieber and Taylor Swift to Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Garner adored Adidas's ability to make something so sleek so recognizable.

These days, it's rare for Bieber—let alone any sneakerhead—to style shoes that are just as colorless. Even her white sneakers from New Balance or Fila add dimension with metallic silver or black laces, soles, or heel tabs. Like me, Bieber left her all-white sneakers back in the 2020s. One of her last sightings came in February that year, when her somehow scuff-less pair popped just as much as her leather green trench coat.

What goes around comes around, especially in the sneaker department. Yes, Bieber is back to her white sneaker-wearing ways, but not with the Nike Air Forces in my college archives. Shop the White Sneaker Trend Revival Inspired by Hailey Bieber

Zendaya's 2026 schedule shows no signs of slowing down. On March 31, days before her The Drama press tour peaked, stylist Law Roach wrote "we've been busy" under an Instagram photo of Z on set. Instead of Christian Louboutin So Kates, Zendaya slipped on an unreleased pair of On ballet sneakers, suggesting the actor is back in brand ambassador mode for the time being.

Zendaya has worn the Swiss brand's shoes while promoting Challengers, at a real-life tennis match, and in many campaigns, but Marie Claire sneakerheads don't recognize these trainers. They aren't even the Cloudzone Moon sneakers she and Roach co-designed with On last August.

Here's what we do know: The Euphoria actor's white shoes were heavily influenced by the ballet sneaker trend. Elastic, navy blue straps—in lieu of traditional laces—criss-crossed over each stark white tongue, similar to Puma's take on the sneakerinas. Then, curved toe boxes—with a slight, ballet-proof point to them—hugged her feet like slippers.

Contrary to last summer's flat, perforated treads, these nameless On sneakers mirror each foot's natural arch, only to heighten an inch or so beneath each heel. Emerald green trim along Zendaya's ankles popped against her monogrammed crew-length socks. There's a chance she helped design this mysterious model, too. The familiar, face-down heel tabs seen on Z's Cloudzone Moon sneakers returned atop these Jane Doe ballet sneakers.

Her no-fuss outfit—including a black cardigan, peekaboo collar, and the oversize Bermuda shorts trend—ensured all energy went toward ID'ing her new On shoes.

Information about the (potential) It-shoe of the season remains under lock and key, as did most of Zendaya's previous On picks. A few months after Challengers filming wrapped in 2024, she signed her name on the dotted line as the face of On. It hasn't been too demanding of a role, unlike the frantic bride she plays in The Drama. The only requirements? Star in a sneaker campaign every few months, and while she's at it, endorse a trend in the three-figure Ons.

This time around, ballet sneakers were Zendaya's craze of choice—one that became her go-to shoe while living in London last fall. All this sneaker sub-genre needed to return for spring was someone like Z to take it for another twirl. Doing so in never-before-seen On sneakers certainly helped stir the pot, too.

It’s the perfect image to market a new running sneaker: Sha’Carri Richardson, a two-time Olympian and one of the world’s fastest women, holding a one-handed runner’s lunge and wearing Melitta Baumeister x Nike’s neon orange Vomero Premiums.

But an athlete of Richardson’s caliber wasn’t who Baumeister initially had in mind when conceptualizing her collaboration with Nike Running. The German-born, New York-based fashion designer was thinking about women like herself: rookie runners who enjoy the endorphin rush but aren’t hung up on shaving off seconds or perfecting their form. Who run simply as a way to celebrate that they’re able to—that they're alive.

Titled “Run Like No One is Watching” and launching on April 1, Baumeister’s team-up with Nike centers around the idea of running as an extension of self-expression. “It’s a message about rediscovering the joy of movement: moving for yourself, not for perfection or the approval of others,” Baumeister says over email. In that respect, Richardson, as well known for her record-breaking 100m sprint as she is for her intricate, bedazzled manicures, is the perfect person for the partnership.

Baumeister’s team-up with Nike includes two original interpretations of the Vomero Premium and Pegasus Premium, two running sneakers that feel like natural inclusions in her namesake experimental line. Both are set on cushy platform soles, slightly bloated silhouettes that align well with the CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund winner’s penchant for distortion and sculpture. Each sneaker is painted by hand: the traffic-cone orange Vomero boasts illustrations of Baumeister’s eyes on the outsole; the Pegasus, offered in neon green, features "Run Like No One is Watching" on its sole as a pick-me-up for those trailing the wearer. You will find Nike’s signature swoosh on each pair, but it’s layered under Baumeister’s logo and hand-brushed, black smudges.

These are not the mass-produced, neutral running sneakers you’d find in a big-box store; they’re avant-garde and atypical, with a clear fashion slant yet without compromising on the technical performance needed to pound the pavement. Melitta Baumeister x Nike is distinct, expressive, and meant to mirror the unique path each wearer walks—or runs.

I’d love to hear about your experiences with running and how they influenced your design approach for this collaboration.

Movement has always been an essential part of my daily life and creative work. I’m an avid biker, and the opportunity to work on the Vomero Premium and Pegasus Premium inspired me to start running. However, finding the time and motivation while managing an expanding business was challenging. There was also the added challenge of the awkwardness that comes with starting something new, especially because I didn’t connect with the rise of “run club culture”. I think that knowing that this is the reality for most of my clients was a good starting point for the story I’m telling through this collaboration.

What I love about running and my own running journey is how running changes how I perceive time and space. It's like exploring familiar places from a new perspective. Places connect to thoughts, which become memories, and rhythm resides in the body, not a stopwatch. Running is a powerful tool for creativity. Every run is unique, just like everyone’s journey. And, every runner is unique, just like each pair of shoes.

This is not your first time working with Nike; the athletic brand sponsored your first New York Fashion Week show in September 2024, and you just redesigned the Nike Air Max Muse for your Fall 2026 collection. What do you enjoy most about working with Nike?

My partnership with Nike began in Spring 2025, during NYFW, with my first runway show. I’m very selective about the brands I work with, but I was inspired by the way they approached the partnership as more than a sponsorship. From the beginning, it was an opportunity to build a world together. I was drawn to Nike’s pursuit of excellence, something that’s a key part of my own practice as a designer. They embrace my avant-garde approach to design and challenge me to recontextualize sport and performance in ways the brand has never done before. Through this partnership, we consistently push each other to create something truly special that shapes the boundaries of fashion and sport.

How did you approach making the Nike Running silhouettes your own?

When Nike asked me to come up with new color variations for the Vomero Premium and Pegasus Premium, my first thought was to approach it as more than just swapping colors. The functionality of both silhouettes provided new inspiration. I wanted to incorporate movement and something unexpected. That meant shifting from the intimidating perfection of a brand-new sneaker to a sneaker that attracts people in multifaceted, surprising ways.

My team and I took the idea of "design for movement" seriously, and instead of staying holed up in front of a computer, I worked with my hands, touching the actual materials just as I do when creating sculptural dresses. I uncovered the story I wanted to tell—to embrace imperfection in the pursuit of practice. I developed two hand-painted sneakers, each pair subtly different. The first thing viewers notice when they see my Vomero Premium and Pegasus Premium is the layers of graphics and details that appear when viewed up close. I like how it creates room for the viewer to explore and experience by engaging with the work from various distances and angles.

How did you differentiate this collaboration from the previous one?

Nike and I unveiled our first partnership in 2025. I worked with the brand to produce my own reinterpretation of the Air Max Muse for our Fall '26 lookbook. The design was an exaggeration and distortion of the shoe’s already distinct design lines, furthered by a gritty yet foamy appliqué that extends far from the midsole around the foot, as well as gaps in the paneling at the toes. The idea was to let the sole bubble up and expand through the gaps in the upper, resulting in a new sculptural silhouette altered and conceived through a distinctly physical process.

My bespoke Air Max Muse was an exploratory exercise to show what the world of Melitta Baumeister and Nike looks like. The Vomero Premium and Pegasus Premium take it a step further by creating a piece of our world that can be owned and experienced by our combined audiences. The co-creation process was much more collaborative; I worked closely with Nike’s design team to understand how to translate my ideas into the production process for a performance product. When reinterpreting a performance product, there are limitations to what you can alter so as not to change the functionality of the shoe, unlike when I created the bespoke Air Max Muses. I was also able to introduce aspects of my craft to their factories—for example, the process of painting the shoes.

The “Run Like No One Is Watching” tagline is so clever. What’s your message to people who are struggling with wanting to start running but feel intimidated?

I wanted to create an intimate and honest design that delves into the inner worlds of people who don't identify as runners but who are aware of its transformative power. The message created by the juxtaposition of the tagline “Run Like No One is Watching” with the visuals of my eye on the shoes is that we want our results to be seen, but we do not want to be judged during the process.

This same philosophy—subtle differences, layered colors, and the traces of the maker's touch—is embodied in every sneaker. This perspective reflects my own experimental methods and production process, which are constantly evolving. This collaboration is my showcase of how imperfection, realism, and playfulness can be the most powerful design tools.

For a long time, performance sneakers and fashion sneakers have been separate categories. But the lines are blurring now. Was merging performance with expressive design codes part of your thinking when designing these sneakers?

I knew I wanted to tell a story with my design. My work speaks to women who are expressive and bold in such an intimate way, and this project was no different. So much of my work is about creating shape, but with the Vomero Premium and Pegasus Premium, the shape was already created, so I leaned into other parts of my craft to create my design. Mixing sport performance with processes like hand-painting and intentional graphic design is very much aligned with what fashion means to me, combining the functional with the emotional.

Anything else to add about the collaboration?

I grew up in a small city in Germany with very little fashion. Since I was a child, I've felt that clothes influence our lives and emotions. I was drawn to people who not only expressed their individuality through clothing but also established their identity through it. That's the root of my love for fashion. My mother introduced me to a visiting fashion designer, and her words, "I'm changing people's lives by dressing them," really resonated with me.

As I grew older, I came to understand what she meant. The idea of affecting someone’s identity and helping them be courageous on their path to defining who they are has been both fascinating and rewarding. Through this collaboration, I hope that people can find the sublime in running and see it as another lens through which they create their identity.

Bieber's March 30 workout class brought the Filas out of retirement, and with them an exclusive take on the rising hiking sneaker trend. Despite layering up in all-black, each eccentric set of laces—which stretched diagonally toward the outside walls—blew her cover. Black shoestrings stood out against white mesh and occasionally-curved, metallic silver bands. Each ultra-treaded, rubber sole was also black, to match the heels' velvet backs.

This slimmed-down take on the approach shoe was more widely shoppable last June, when the Rhode founder took her five-month-old sneakers to New York City. Now, you'll have better luck securing her flared Alo Yoga leggings or oversize zip-up hoodie.
