If you’re ever having a bad day at work, just remember it’s nowhere near as bad as the one Zara (Sophie Turner) has in the Prime Video thriller series Steal. What starts as a typical day at the London financial investment firm Lochmill Capital turns terrifying when armed thieves burst in and force Zara and her friend/coworker, Luke (Archie Madekwe), to help them steal a massive £4 billion—money that comes from everyday workers’s pension funds.

Why would someone steal the pensions of doctors, policemen, and social workers? And where did the money go? These questions are just the tip of the iceberg, and there’s more to this robbery than initially meets the eye—including who was involved in the crime. Read on for a breakdown of the ending of Steal.

Who was behind the heist in 'Steal?'

When the group of thieves raided Lochmill, forced all the employees into a conference room at gunpoint, and forced Luke and Zara to their desks to execute the staggering trade of billions of dollars, it wasn’t clear who they were working for or what their motivations were. Greed? Terrorism? Conspiracy? The reasons were a mystery—especially after finding out Luke and Zara were both paid £5 million in crypto in the aftermath.

Even more curious is what happens to the money after it’s moved. As DCI Rhys Covac (Jacob Fortune-Lloyd) and his colleagues investigate the case, and the intelligence agents at MI5 conduct their own surveillance, the funds keep moving across various offshore accounts tied to prominent people—politicians, celebrities, and moguls—and major corporations. As soon as it’s in one of those accounts, it moves again, taking money belonging to those individuals along with it. So the already massive heist also includes several others—continuing to draw attention to the less-than-ethical ways people in power hold onto their money.

Then, surprisingly, the original £4 billion was returned to Lochmill. So, who would do such a thing? The answer was right in front of us from almost the very beginning: Darren Yoshida (Andrew Koji), the financial investigator who’d been working with the cops on the case. He hired the thieves and then arranged his schedule so he’d be assigned to the case after the robbery, allowing him to keep an eye on the investigation and speed up or impede their progress.

After Rhys realizes that he was the true mastermind, he and Zara confront him together at the Lochmill office. It’s there that Yoshida admits his involvement and motivations: The heist was meant to “change the world,” exposing the corrupt financial systems that leave millions struggling and starving while the rich enjoy lives of luxury with their money stored in offshore accounts.

How did Luke and Zara become involved in the robbery in 'Steal?'

While Yoshida masterminded the plan and the thieves executed it, the Lochmill heist also turns out to be an inside job. The thieves recruited Luke and, when they said they needed a second person for their plan to work, he convinced Zara to take part too. Still, they didn’t know the extent of what was being planned—the friends and colleagues were under the impression that the criminals just needed their login credentials to facilitate a hack and that money would only be taken from more ethically questionable sources like tobacco executives. (They were also promised a £100,000 payout, which seemed more relative to the scale of theft they thought was taking place.)

The reason they said yes? For Luke, it was money: He had credit card debt to pay off. Zara, meanwhile, wasn’t as easily swayed until she was passed over for a promotion at work because she’s “too good” at the low-level job she’s currently doing. The dissatisfaction with her job—and, frankly, the state of her life—is what pushes her to meet with the thieves and join the plot.

It also turns out a third Lochmill employee was involved: Milo (Harry Michell), a more senior employee who was already well-off but wanted the payout so he could retire early. The thieves contacted him online, he directed them to Luke, and then they chose Zara because her displeasure with her job made her an easy target to blame.

What was Rhys hiding in 'Steal?'

Luke and Zara weren’t the only ones carrying a secret in Steal. Rhys, the detective investigating the Lochmill heist, is a gambling addict whose luck has come up short. He owes just under £100,000, and if he doesn’t pay up soon, his debts will be sold from people he knows to ones he doesn't, which would be very bad for him (to say nothing of loan sharks having potential leverage over a cop).

As the investigation into the heist continues, his superiors keep stalling him as MI5 gets more involved in surveilling Zara and tracking the case—and his personal problems make his involvement more complicated. At one point, after he begins his own rogue investigation into the robbery, Zara (who has slept with Rhys amid these covert ops) flat-out asks if he’s trying to track down the money to pay off his own debts, which he swears isn’t the case.

After being shot during the final confrontation with the thieves at the Lochmill office, he survives but is forced to resign from his job and sells his house to clear out his debts. It’s a dire turn of events, but it’s also not where his story ends.

What happens to Luke at the end of 'Steal?'

While Luke knew more about what the Lochmill heist would entail than Zara did—he was aware thieves would be entering the office, but not the extent or intensity of it—being threatened at gunpoint is another thing entirely. He panics when the bank calls to approve the trade, forcing Zara to step in and finish the deal, and continues spiraling at home when he thinks (correctly) that he’s being watched.

After he calls Zara in a panic, the thieves break into his apartment building to kidnap him, getting past cops who are stationed outside to keep an eye on him. While being held at their safe house in the countryside, he tries to appeal to one of the thugs by offering him some of his money if he helps him escape. That man ultimately turns against his compatriots and takes Luke back to London. There, they confront Zara at her apartment, and she convinces the man to let them go if they can take him to Milo to steal his larger payout. Milo is killed when he tries to resist, but the codes to open his crypto wallet are at the Lochmill office, which is why the three of them head there for that final confrontation with the other thieves, MI5 agents, and finally the police.

What happens to Zara at the end of 'Steal?'

After what can only be described as a hellish few days (including but not limited to being held at gunpoint and being forced to participate in a massive robbery, going on the run after your accomplice in said heist is kidnapped, being pursued relentlessly by intelligence agents, and your mom trying to steal your windfall from the crime you’re complicit in), Zara survives the gunfire at the office.

After she and Luke sign the witness statements, MI5 asks them to hand over their crypto wallets with the stolen money, and it seems like they can put this whole mess behind them. Indeed, they’re both preparing to go on a trip together, but before she departs, she has that final meeting with Rhys—prompting him to realize Darren Yoshida was the real mastermind. When they confront him at the Lochmill office, where police had been on the scene after the money was returned, he explains his motivations for the scheme. He also makes them a final offer: another crypto wallet with £10 million stolen from the tax haven accounts, which they can take if they let him go. Rhys could certainly use the money—couldn’t anyone use an extra few million dollars?—but Zara turns it down, because accepting it would have tied them to him forever.

How does 'Steal' end?

Steal ends with Zara and Rhys walking out of Lochmill for what’s presumably the last time. She has a box of odds and ends she packed for her and Luke, and he’s incredulous that they just said no to a cool £10 million. But this is when Zara reveals one last twist: In the box of random office junk, hidden inside a desk trophy, is Milo’s crypto wallet, with the clean £20 million he’d already been paid. The money isn’t tied to Lochmill, so they can take it with a clean conscience. And Zara knew she’d be searched after the shootout, so she’d left her wallet for the cops to find and hoped Milo’s would be in the box when she collected it. Lucky for both of them, it was a bet that paid off.

So, Rhys asks, what will she do now? For the first time, Zara has a world of options. “I don’t know,” she responds. “Something exciting.” And the show ends with the two of them walking off together towards whatever’s next.

Turner traded the runway model's original crystal-covered footwear for aforementioned trend. The rest of her look, however, channeled creative director Nicolas Ghesquière's runway styling to a T. First, she layered a scalloped shawl over her fringed silver halter. The voluminous cloak—particularly its pleated leather coils and sculptural shoulders—looked straight from her Game of Thrones costume rack.

Ghesquière kept the runway model's arms free from a four-figure bag. Turner instead cradled Louis Vuitton's Express PM bag like an infant dragon from Daenerys Targaryen's lair. The Fall 2025 purse—beloved by Stone and Ana de Armas alike—featured a slightly slumped zip closure.

Turner chose the $4,200 black colorway, which joined Stone's closet in August. The Express PM has only been on shelves for two months, and already, celebrities can't get enough. At this rate, it'll be on Zendaya's shoulder by fashion month's end.

Given the September 30 time stamp, you might have expected the entire front row to be in fall boot mode. Sometimes, actors have to really fake it for a role—like the "really bad moment" when Sophie Turner was tasked with convincingly pretending not to be disgusted by kissing her former Game of Thrones costar Kit Harington, for example.

During a recent appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, the actress admitted that sharing romantic scenes with Harington for their upcoming movie The Dreadful was, well, literally dreadful (actually, the word she used was "vile").

“I have to be honest," Turner said of kissing Harington for the movie. “It was bad.”

Of course, to be fair, the ick factor for Turner had nothing to do with Harington as a person or actor and everything to do with the family-like bond they developed while playing half-siblings Sansa Stark and Jon Snow for eight seasons on Game of Thrones.

When Turner signed on to not only star in, but also produce The Dreadful, she said she “immediately … thought of” Harington and was excited to tell him that she “got this script for this amazing Gothic horror” that he would be perfect in. Harington agreed that the script was great—but, unlike Turner, he was also immediately aware of the inherent awkwardness that would come with him taking the role.

“I sent the script to Kit,” she explained. “He kind of sent me a message back, like, ‘Yeah, I’d love to, but this is gonna be really f*cking weird.'”

Turner said she didn't immediately realize what he was talking about, but quickly realized just how many intimate scenes their characters had throughout the film.

“Kiss, kiss, sex, kiss, sex,” Turner said, recounting her thoughts as she went through the script, taking note of all the awkward scenes she and Harington were in for. “I was like, ‘Oh, shoot. That’s my brother.’ But it was such a good script that he was like, ‘We kind of have to do it.'”

Like true professionals, Turner said she and Harington “put it out of [their] minds," but, like true humans with true human reactions, she also admitted that they were both “retching” when it came time to film their first kissing scene.

After playing siblings for eight years, that seems like a very fair reaction, TBH.

For A-listers, walking from the hotel to a car is as prime a photo op as any red carpet. Instead of gowns, celebrities usually debut high-low looks with equally impressive tags. This week, Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Alba, and most recently, Sophie Turner have been caught in this exact scenario—usually with a designer bag and flats in tow.

On August 14, the Game of Thrones star landed in Manhattan, kickstarting her press tour for Trust, a psychological thriller hitting theaters on August 22. Marking her grand return to Manhattan after a summer full of travel, Turner enlisted the help of her stylist, Kate Young, to secure Look 7 from Ludovic de Saint Sernin Fall 2025. The 32-piece collection debuted in March during Paris Fashion Week. The skintight bodice, accented with grommets and corset-like lacing, was almost entirely made of snakeskin.

As a Louis Vuitton ambassador, Turner has access to any bag on the market. But she stayed true to her dress's original runway styling and opted out of a tote entirely. Instead, she coordinated her peep-toe burgundy mules to her red, trimmed-down manicure. Oversize black sunglasses matched the dress's drama.

If a celebrity needs timeless tailoring, their stylist goes to Bottega Veneta. For elevated basics, they call The Row. But, what about dreamy dresses? At this point, it's public knowledge: Shop Khaite.

Each season, the New York label outdoes itself with modern minis and maxis aplenty. (Khaite's catalog currently offers more than 70 dresses in various shades and silhouettes.) Khaite's overarching aura leans classic, but no two designs are exactly same.

On May 31, Adria Arjona attended Disney's "For Your Consideration" fest in the Coraline Dress. It's also available in an espresso chocolate shade, but Arjona was drawn to the yellow option. Instead of an accessory-less look, the Hit Man actor paired it with metallic sandals, matching bangles, and oversized hoop earrings, all in gold. However, she did opt out of a necklace, similar to Turner.

Summer 2025 color trend predictions said buttery hues would be replaced by mustard yellow and turmeric this season. But take it from Turner: butter yellow dresses are still an appetizing warm-weather pick.

On June 14, Game of Thrones alum Sophie Turner was spotted post-flight at JFK airport. It's unclear where Turner jetted in from, but regardless, her effortlessly-cool ensemble lit up the Arrivals floor. Turner went the groutfit route for her travels, starting with a cropped, TikTok-famous bomber jacket from Scarlet & Sam, a burgeoning Melbourne brand. It embodied the classic silhouette to a T, with ribbed elastic cuffs, silver utility detailing, and oversized sleeves. Turner chose a celebrity airport outfit staple: Adidas Sambas, also flight-approved by Olivia Rodrigo, Lindsay Lohan, Dakota Johnson, and Katie Holmes (to name a few). Her white-and-blue version hailed from a recent Wales Bonner collaboration. The signature Samba stripes were croc-embossed, alongside suede paneling, gum-rubber soles, and contrasting black stitching on the tongues and heels.

Turner has been a devoted Adidas sneakerhead since the early 2010s. While the Wales Bonner kicks are her newest addition, her collection boasts Sambas and Gazelles in various shades. Held at Claridge’s Hotel in London, Turner was on hand at the event to accept an award for her starring role in the crime series Joan, which is based on the life of British jewel thief Joan Hannington. Personally, I love when the Game of Thrones star goes for a textural disco-inspired look—last night's was hardly her first. Remember the Louis Vuitton floor-length gown covered in colorful feathers she wore to the 2022 premiere of Devotion, with a cascading mane of brushed-out auburn curls? The whole thing felt very Cher, and in my view, there can be no higher compliment than that.

In a new interview with Harper's Bazaar U.K., the actress revealed that she was staying with a friend in London while her daughters were with their father Joe Jonas because "it’s absolute agony" for her to be at home without them.

Seeing these pictures cross my desk felt more like looking in the mirror: I've tuned in to one too many Eras Tour TikTok livestreams in the exact same crewneck-and-sweats combination.

Turner shares two children—daughters Willa, 4, and Delphine, 2—with her ex, Joe Jonas. Earlier this month, Turner and Jonas finalized their divorce, and they continue to co-parent their two children. Since the breakup, Turner has started dating aristocrat Peregrine Pearson.

In an interview with The Sunday Times, which was published on Sunday, September 29, Turner discussed her new role in TV drama Joan. The Game of Thrones star portrays Joan Hannington, a real-life diamond thief and single mom, in the series.

"If I hadn’t been a mother, I don’t know if I would have been able to bring the same energy that I did into it," Turner said of the new part.

She continued, "It’s such a struggle being a single mother. Joan doesn’t go about it in the best way ... but it is amazing to see her really fighting for her daughter. It's also really important for kids to see just how hard parents work for them."

"The timing was right for the family to settle permanently in England, particularly given the older child's age," the documents state, referencing three-year-old Willa.

The search for this "forever home" happened between December and July, when they found a beautiful country property in Henley on Thames, England. Turner said they "exchanged contracts with the sellers to purchase the property on July 7, 2023, with the completion date scheduled for December 2, 2023. The parties looked forward to spending their Christmas 2023 holiday with the children, family, and friends in their new home in England."

The pair put their $15 million home in Miami up for sale in April, and it was sold in August. Before leaving Miami, they apparently "shipped many of the children's personal belongings to England" and the "remainder of the children's belongings were placed into storage, to be kept there until the parties had purchased a new home in England."

Until they moved into a new home, the children would travel on tour with Jonas and the nanny due to Turner's busy filming schedule in August. Turner would join them in the U.S. in September. "The children moving around with the Father on tour was only going to be a temporary arrangement," Turner claimed.

However, things did not go according to plan. Turner states that "the breakdown of the parties' marriage happened very suddenly."

The pair got into a big argument on Jonas' birthday on August 15, 2023, but no details of that disagreement are known. Earlier that day, Turner had posted a photo of the pair in matching pajamas, wishing her "handsome" husband a happy birthday. Less than a month later, on September 5, Jonas filed for divorce in Miami.

"This sounds like the plot to a Hallmark movie," remarked someone else, and frankly, I can't see the lie here.

Pearson is the heir to the Cowdray estate in West Sussex, per Tatler, and will eventually inherit the title of Viscount Cowdray. He is also rather wealthy and previously dated Princess Maria-Olympia of Greece and Denmark.

As for Turner, she and Jonas had a difficult split earlier this year, reportedly struggling with custody decisions over their daughters Willa, 3, and Delphine, 1.

They released the following statement to confirm their separation:

"After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage. There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children."

And the girlfriends’ dinner has returned, as Swift stepped out with two standbys—Turner and Lively—and added a new face to the mix: Brittany Mahomes, the wife of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. 

The group ate at Italian restaurant Emilio’s Ballato in Soho, and Swift wore an LBD with a matching handbag and heels; Lively wore a beige crop top, a multicolored MOTHER striped skirt, a tweed blazer thrown over her shoulders, and tan boots; and Turner was in a dark red leather jumpsuit with black heeled leather boots, per People.

Turner, as well as daughters Willia, three, and Delphine, one, are staying at Swift’s Tribeca apartment; Swift and Turner were spotted out to dinner in New York City twice last week. A source told the outlet that the two women “have always liked and respected each other.”

“They are fans of each other and have been friends for a while,” they said. “Sophie doesn’t care that Taylor dated Joe. It was so long ago and in the past. Taylor has a good time when she’s with Sophie and they enjoyed some fun girl time together.”

After Jonas filed for divorce from Turner earlier this month, Turner responded by filing a petition in a New York court to ask for the “immediate return” of their two daughters to her native U.K. “Shortly thereafter, Turner and Jonas agreed to temporarily keep their kids in New York as they work out the details of their divorce,” Entertainment Tonight reports. 

Per People, earlier this week an interim consent order was filed, stating that Turner and Jonas must keep their daughters in the Southern and Eastern districts of New York. The new filing comes after Turner sued Jonas last week for wrongful retention of the couple’s daughters, claiming that he was withholding their passports. Swift stepped in and loaned Turner one of her investment properties; Swift also has a different primary residence in the city. “Taylor has opened her home to Sophie,” a source said. “Sophie is welcome there anytime. Taylor continues to be a great friend.” As for Turner and Jonas, “Sophie and Joe take turns seeing their girls,” they said.

Though this may seem like ancient history, the brief relationship enjoyed some more time in the spotlight back in 2021 when Swift released Fearless (Taylor's Version), which included the "from the vault" track "Mr. Perfectly Fine."

This song is widely believed to be about Jonas, and the chorus goes like this:

"Hello, 'Mr. Perfectly fine' / How's your heart after breakin' mine? / Mr. 'Always at the right place at the right time,' baby / Hello, Mr. 'Casually cruel' / Mr. 'Everything revolves around you' / I've been Miss Misery since your goodbye / And you're 'Mr. Perfectly fine'"

The sentiment was pretty clear, but this didn't stop Turner—then ostensibly happily married to Jonas—from posting about the song on Instagram Stories at the time, writing, "It's not NOT a bop" and tagging Swift.

The latter reposted it, adding, "forever bending the knee for the [crown emoji] of the north," referring to Turner's breakout role in Game of Thrones.

Anyway, all this to say that Turner and Swift were spotted enjoying a girls' night on the town this week, when they shared a dinner at Via Carota. They were photographed all smiles and arm in arm on the city streets, both looking utterly stunning. 

Taylor dressed in theme for her "1989" re-recorded era in an orange mini dress from Reformation—which costs under $100 and is still available!—with a blue max denim maxi coat from EB Denim, the same brand that made her VMAs after-party look. She accessorized her look with a pair of dark brown croc-print knee-high boots from Reformation, which are (somehow) still in stock on the brand's website. Turner opted for an all-gray ensemble.

Twitter users were absolutely delighted by this instantly iconic pop culture moment.

The collective world has been talking about his pending divorce from Sophie Turner all week, but Joe Jonas himself opened up about the melee onstage last night. “It’s been a crazy week,” he said, and, People reports, the singer got emotional before singing the Jonas Brothers song “Hesitate,” inspired by Turner. (The chorus of the song, sung by Jonas, says “I will take your pain and put in on my heart / I won’t hesitate, just tell me where to start / I thank the oceans for giving me you / You saved me once, and now I’ll save you, too / I won’t hesitate for you.”)

Jonas is on tour with brothers Kevin and Nick (you know, the Jonas Brothers), and last night’s stop was at Dodger Stadium in L.A. Fans erupted in cheers as Jonas’ emotions came to the fore, and Jonas—who was not wearing his wedding ring—told them “I just want to say, if you don’t hear it from these lips, don’t believe it. Okay? Thank you, everyone, for the love and support to me and my family. I love you guys.”

It seems unbelievable that it was just one week ago today that speculation began brewing that the four-year marriage of Jonas and Turner might be on the rocks. By mid-week Jonas had filed for divorce from Turner, who he met in 2016, became engaged to in 2017, and married in 2019. The couple share two daughters, born in 2020 and 2022. This week, Jonas and Turner released a joint statement on Instagram that read “Statement from the two of us: ‘After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage. There are many speculative narratives as to why, but truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children.’”

At another moment in last night’s show, Jonas’ younger brother Nick gave him “a sweet embrace” during the band’s performance of their song “Rollercoaster,” which could sum up what this week must have felt like for him (and surely Turner, too).

We might never know what actually led to Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner's unexpected divorce, unless either of them decides to speak out.

In the meantime, however, there are many tidbits out there that might help us form something of a picture. I would just caution everyone to take things with a pinch of salt, as ever when things don't come from a direct source.

With all that said, the latest report comes courtesy of TMZ, with the publication alleging that "Joe had access to a ring cam that he said captured Sophie saying and/or doing something that made him realize the marriage was over." This tidbit was apparently confirmed by several sources who know Jonas.

If this report is true, we still don't know anything about what exactly Turner allegedly did or said that was so bad it could place the last nail in the marriage coffin and, unfortunately for the nosier people among us, it's likely we never will find out.

After Jonas officially filed for divorce and this was reported by several publications, the soon-to-be former spouses issued a joint statement on Instagram, which read:

"After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage. There are many speculative narratives as to why, but truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children."

It was Jonas who filed for divorce, stating in filing documents that the union was "irretrievably broken" and expressing a wish for himself and Turner to share custody of their two daughters, Willa, 3, and her baby sister, 1.

According to TMZ, Jonas and Turner's marriage had been suffering for about six months prior to the filing.
